Oops I forgot to post the art that I did for a One Piece 2024 calendar

I wanted to make each piece a visually distinct style and/or technique, so some are more experimental than others. Blurbs about each one under the cut!

January: Law

Experimented with dramatic bi-color lighting I've seen used in photography — can't remember what it's called, but it looks like this:

February: Sanji

Inspired by this one oddly specific genre of whimsical yellow art of chefs tasting food:

Guest appearance by Luffy who smelled the meat.

March: Franky

Inspired by vibrant and geometric styles that use bold linework (@kuroiyuki96-art and @krookedglasses on Tumblr are 2 great examples of artists who use this style that come to mind).

April: Zoro

Inspired by ink illustration styles originating in China and Japan (sumi-e being a big one, specifically).

May: Nami

Went for a stained glass window look with some smaller motifs pertaining to Nami's character.

June: Ivankov

Had to pick Ivankov for pride month! Inspired by psychedelic abstract works.

July: Luffy

Inspired by pop-art and comic book styles.

August: Usopp

Didn't have a specific style or this one, really. I wanted to emphasize contrast between Usopp and his alter ego good friend Sogeking, and decided on vibrant graffiti against a grayscale backdrop.

September: Robin

Done entirely with hatching! This one took the longest by far (worth it, since Robin's my favourite!).

October: Brook

A direct parody of Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell album cover —

— made to look like Thriller Bark.

November: Ace

Inspired by black velvet paintings (which I learned originated in Kashmir, despite typically being associated with Mexico).

December: Chopper

This one's special, as I asked a group of my friends to make drawings of Chopper's different forms! I thought it would be cute for him to be 'drawing' his different transformations and hanging them up. The copy I printed has each friend's name on their respective drawing, but I removed them for privacy before posting.

So as an artist I have a simple question, how does one develop their own style? Like, I get the whole concept of it takes time and what you like but, I don’t learn from that, I want to know your experience, and how you developed it, I feel like that would help me understand better than a bullet list on some web page tbh

Ohhh man! Unfortunately this isn’t a simple question at ALL hahah - I could tell you how I did it?? I guess? Though it wasn’t an intentional thing.

I had a very aggressive anime(style) phase from like 10-14, and then fell for Bryan Lee O’Malleys style in Scott Pilgrim, as well as the style of @/krookedglasses and kind of borrowed from those two and people like them. And over the years my art just started to look like this! Sorry I can’t be of much help

right now, my biggest inspirations are probably jamie hewlett, robert valley, and @//krookedglasses! i really want to convey a sort of clean cut hyper-stylised look while still maintaining the cuteness and colorfulness of 2000s toons and anime ,,,

I was in a really bad relationship with drawing not so long ago, but thanks to her I pushed through and found out I love art more than before🌧️ her videos and paint processes always gives me comfort and inspiration 🤭🖤

This adorable little rainbow is named Sonnette or Sunny for short, she is also known as Sunshine but she will only ever allow the Wanderer to call her that as he’s the only one who’s earned the right. She was and adopt from the incredibly talented and I do MEAN INCREDIBLY talented Ms.Krooked-Glasses of great fame many years ago. The second Piece of art however was a commission I did(again quite a few years ago) of The Wanderer and Sonnette’s first meeting, drawn by the just as talented  Dalton Brown a.k.a Smash Toons.

This lovely little miss is a 13 year old girl who has had a very up and down life so far. I’ll try to  summarize a long story that I may tell later(Not sure at this point), but I don’t promise I won’t gush, so allow me to explain.

She was born to two very loving parents from very different origins in quite a few different meanings, her father was born under a constant source of light magic and her mother under one of constant dark magic.  The reason for these strange origins is her home town/towns The Great Twin City, a pair of towns technically counting as one, both towns are built around absolutely massive spires of concentrated and crystallized light and dark magic that cast an aura of light and darkness respectively on the towns beneath them. These constant sources of light and dark magic greatly affected the relative appearance and very rarely mood of those who lived beneath their glows.

 Those under the dark crystals’s glow had more dark and somewhat Gothic appearances, while those under the light magic wore more bright and vibrant colors, as for their personalities the magic did not affect them really at all(.Barring some rare cases) This allowed the two cities to maintain a very strong and symbiotic relationship and friendship.

It wasn't until a Doctor who had been experimenting with the science and magics that exist throughout the world met the love of his life that things, began to drift into darker times. The man, Dr. Vordra Luminoo. a man from the city bathed in light, met the lovely Ms. Felicia Delvos a young woman from the city bathed in darkness. These two proverbial romeo and Juliet fell head over heels for each other and were married within a few years and soon has a child, named (You guessed it) Sonnette.

 Exactly 11 years after Felicia gave birth to Sonnette, Felicia came down with a fever which took her life, the Dr. could not stand to see his love part and leave her daughter, so in an act of insane and misguided love he managed to capture her soul using the power of the Dark Spires magic to entrap his wife’s soul within until he could create a suitable body for her to return to. To be sure he would not loose his daughter too he used the power of the Dark Spire to corrupt and enslaved the citizen of the dark half of the city to protect him as he did his research and experiments. He also used these corrupted citizens to harvest and destroy the Light Spire, believing if the light was not there the power of the Dark Spire would grow unabated giving him more time and power to save his wife. In doing so he succeeded and the light faded from the other half of the Twin City and the dark magic changed and  for lack of a better term corrupted and disfigured the former residents of the bright town. They were turned into monsters due to the over whelming dark power that washed over their town, despite having long since becoming accustomed to venturing into the Dark half of the city and the magics that covered it. The people were then kept within the City by  Dark magics that created an almost invisible border along the town that would attack any trying to leave.

With the remains of the Light Spire the doctor created a lush garden paradise within the castle he had had constructed around the Dark Spire during his life with Felicia. This garden was also Sonnette’s prison, never being allowed to leave by her father in fear of loosing her too. He placed the remains of The Light Spire, now only a massive chunk of crystallized light magic above the center of the room, so it’s powerful magics would keep her healthy. Unknown to him, the Light Spire’s remains began to imbued Sonnette with pure light magic, turning her into a literal embodiment of Light and it’s magics. This new power allowed her to move at light speeds and to travel along small shafts of light that would sometimes appear through cracks in the ceiling of her garden prison. Knowing that if she fully disappeared from her room her father would have done unspeakable things to the residents of the once bright half of the Twin City, she could only escape her prison for short times a day or night.

On one such excursion she met The Wanderer, a man she would come to consider her big brother,  her personal hero and best friend. After a long adventure and the defeat and subsequent redemption of the mad Doctor, Sonnette would go to live with the Wanderer and those that joined his cause at The Wanderer’s Hold beside The Great Soul City.
