ANAKIN SKYWALKER

-war criminal -murdered a bunch of toddlers like five seconds after turning to the dark side -exploded his daughters home planet that one time -murdered an entire village bc some of them killed his mom (and not just the men, but the women and the children, too) -choked out his pregnant wife and sent her into early labor -murdered a bunch of jedi -had a really dumb braid at one point -tried to kill obi-wan (his mentor, brother, friend, guardian, and basically the most important person in his life) -failed to kill obi-wan and got his shit fucked up so badly that he became basically a walking iron lung, if iron lungs were an ill-timed sneeze away from killing you -went back for MORE a decade after obi-wan beat his ass just to be a dick. like he dragged the poor fucker's face through fire just to be an asshole -annoying

KROMER

Kromer is one of my FAVORITE villains of all time I love her so much. cult leader who is obsessed with the purity of the human body and thinks that having a flesh and blood body is the best thing ever and that people who willingly turn themselves into cyborgs are heretics, so she goes around slaughtering them. manipulated her friend, killed his family, and was generally just awful to him. she loves flesh so much she turned herself into a human centipede about it (body horror warning if you choose to look her up). she is an awful, awful person for basically no reason (her backstory and motivation is just that she likes flesh. that's it. that's literally all there is to it). I have not seen twitter users being weird about liking her firsthand but I know they do it slightly unrelated but people like to treat her & her cult like they're ableist or a metaphor for ableism- THEY'RE NOT. canto 3 is about religion. religious trauma. religious extremism. prosthetics in the projmoon universe are not the same as prosthetics in our world, it's just a weird choice of words, and nagel und hammer has nothing to do with ableism. if you're gonna hate her for the things she's done at least make sure it's something she's actually done PLEASE im begging you

prosthetics in the pm world are pretty obviously NOT the same as prosthetics in our world, and using them to point towards kromer being ableist is one of the weakest arguments i have ever seen in my entire life. give me ONE piece of evidence of kromer being ableist that doesn't mention prosthetics i fucking dare you

look at that. it's not about needing a missing arm replaced, or legs that you can walk on; it's about doing away with all of the inefficiencies of a flesh and blood body. you can get so much more work done if you don't need to eat or sleep!

unfortunately, there are many ways to be ableist and if she truly was, to the point where it was an important part of her character with an entire canto centered around it (like hating pm-prosthetics is), then i feel like maybe

just maybe

she would express this in other ways

that don’t involve slaughtering people that just happen to be made of metal.

to paraphrase/add to something someone said in that post i linked earlier: the district has an "ideal form" for the human body, and kromer has an "ideal form" for the human body, but these "ideal forms" are not the same

she prefers the human body the way it is, and when she sees this "ideal form" that's like the exact opposite of HER "ideal form" starting to take over, she resorts to being a violent bloodthirsty cult leader about it because she sucks ass and is incapable of being normal

she is a bad person and you are allowed to hate her ofc but please for the love of god hate her for something she’s actually done. stop making shit up

played the switch release of mario advance 4. kinda loving it but getting myself sad and pissed off too. its cool that they have all the e-reader levels. some of these are fucking insane. i love them.

but im also really sad that the e-reader never really caught on, never even released most of the levels outside japan because it died not too long after mario advance 4 came out. kind of wishing these were just on the cart to begin with as kind of a 'you got the mario 3 port heres all these wackass levels as a little bonus' type thing like little kromie wouldve become INSANE about these. but im only playing these in 2023 and having a kind of interesting time about it like 'oh yeah that game i played the hell out of, learned inside and out? new levels just dropped' which is also kind of nuts, but still...

WEBCOMIC RECS

I’ve been reading a whole lotta webcomics lately, so here have some recs: 

THE MEEK by Der-shing Helmer

My holy grail of webcomics: funny and touching, great characters, amazing art and stunning worldbuilding. If you’ve never read a webcomic before, this is a good place to start. Light NSFW in the first chapter due to some (non-sexual) female nudity, so keep that in mind. 

NO END, a Post-Apocalyptic Romance by Erli and Kromi

AKA the webcomic that already had me more than convinced and then introduced a beautiful clever redhead for me to give my entire heart to. Some excellent Queer Content (every main character is LGBTQ+ in some way!), wonderful clean art and engaging characters; it’s all here, folks. Some graphic violence, as the zombie apocalypse genre sort of invites, but I’d say most of it is just the characters interacting. 

QUICK$ILVER by Emily Smith/Cryptovolans

This comic has one of the funniest, most energizing main characters I have ever seen; he is hilarious. The art style - watercolours! so cool! - is beautiful and unique and fits the noir themes perfectly. More of that Queer Content we are all here for.

SHADERUNNERS by Capp and Lin

Incredible fantasy world building meets a 1920-ish vibe! Very queer, very well thought out, very compellingly drawn, on top of an intriguing basic premise. (What if the prohibition... but colors?!??!!? Take my word for it it’ll make sense once you read it, such a cool concept)

THE OTHERKNOWN by Lora

Excellent space opera! The comic that sent me down this new webcomic hole in the first place. I love everyone in this particular bar, but I love Demeck and his weird, wonderful expressions the most. 

UNDER THE AEGIS by vimeddiee  

It’s got everything; touching coming-of-age-esque team building antics, ~*romance*~ both queer and otherwise, beautiful art with such immersive attention to detail, great worldbuilding, fish- and bird boys (!), dastardly ancient assassination plots... go read it, you guys! The author also has a new comic HERE that looks super amazing, please check it out!

I really love the matte texture that is used for your pages! It’s perfectly subtle but helps keep the great coloring from looking flat. Did y’all make it yourself or would it be possible to find it as a resource somewhere?

Haha yeah, isn’t it amazing what one simple overlay texture can do? The texture is mine and I don’t want to share it, but you can easily make your own. Just take a picture of a white sheet of copy paper in (bad) fluorescent lighting. For added roughness write/draw/print a bunch of words/symbols/whatever on the flipside so it shows a little bit through the paper.

It should turn out something like this (just without the white text lol).

I’m pretty sure you can find similar ones as free-to-use textures with google image search, too. Try “paper texture” or something.It also gives the picture nice warmth, but if you need to tone it down (I usually do), just slap on some cooler adjustment layers or tweak with Selective Color or turn down the opacity on the layer (which should be overlay).

Humans and lasats can have very different ideas about what’s attractive. Zeb and Kallus still tend to line up by each other’s standards.

When Zeb goes to Kallus’s room, he was not at all expecting to find Kallus with a baby in his arms. However, it does bring some of his own thoughts on parentage to the surface.

World Building “June”: Number 11

Language

For the sake of reducing my tendency to ramble, I will attempt to break down information about the different languages into their own little sub-headings. Many of these languages are still in progress and do not have a ton of detail to them yet.

Kromi (crOH-mee) Rooted in centuries long past, before Prylea and Casica were nations, Kromi evolved to become the most common language of the continent. It is the official language of Prylea.

In Prylea, it is considered polite to make eye contact with people when speaking to them, though staring directly at someone for extended periods of time does have the tendency to make them uncomfortable. People are encouraged to express their emotions, though not to the same extent as in Casica.

Characters with Kromi names: Glen Barrick, and James Gallagher.

Caschei (caw-shay) This is an old Casican language, still spoken in parts of the country. It has, however, been largely replaced by Kromi and is no longer wholly widespread, instead existing mostly in certain communities.

Their mannerisms are quite similar to the people of Prylea, save one difference. Casicans are more animated and very much “hand talkers”, so much so that there is the joke exists saying that the best way to shut a Casican up is to tie their hands behind their back.

Characters with Caschei names include: Tihomir Vancil, and Laszlo Tays.

Jerendali/Jerendalian To the great annoyance of those who have to live with the classification, there are a number of languages that fall under the umbrella name of Jerendali including: Lozhi, Tefau, Sai, and Yuka. Many of these languages tend to align with one or more of the Jerendalian States, however, due to the varying linguistic differences, there is the official language of the country is known simply as Jerendali. The difference between Jerendalian and Jerendali can be difficult to grasp for those outside of the country, but saying “I speak Jerendali” is acceptable, while saying “I speak Jerendalian” is akin to saying “I speak Scandinavian.”

All the Jerendalian languages use more elaborate characters instead of individual letters for writing and, when spoken, they are tonal, with the meaning being inferred not only from the word itself, but the way it is said.

Despite their differences in spoken language, much body language is shared amongst the people of Jerendalia. They tend not to show their teeth when they smile and don’t always make eye contact when speaking. These differences in body language from other cultures are often misinterpreted.

Characters with Jerendali names: Desai, Rui, and Leng, Jian.

Sidhar (shee-ARE) This is the language of Faerie people, and is often known as “Fae Speech” or “Fae” to humans.

It should be noted that there are a great many dialects to Sidhar, some of which vary so much that far apart sects may have difficulty understanding one another despite sharing a common language. For a reality-based comparison, this is not unlike the differences between the different variations of French (Canadian, Parisian, Belgian, etc.). The structure of Sidhar is a VSO (verb-subject-object) language, so, instead of saying “I love you”, the word order of a Sidhar sentence would be something more like “Love I you”.

As seen in this post, the Sidhar lettering system is a single case comprised of very rigid letters with small dots denoting the vowels. It is thought to be quite old, dating back to the time when engraving writing in stones would have been much easier if the letters were made of straight lines.

Characters with Sidhar names include: Kauri Foai, and Eglantia Withypoll.

Girose (GEE-rose) This is the language of Geslain, a small island nation not far from Prylea; its influence is seen in much of Prylea, with multiple Prylean provinces taking it on as an unofficial second language. Even in the other provinces, Girose has much influence in Prylea and can be seen prominently in the names of many Pryleans.

Characters with Girose names: Léandre Gagnon, and Amelie.

Oscanis (ohs-cAHN-iss) The language of Oscana. It uses its own alphabet and is read from right to left, instead of left to right.

Characters with Oscanis names: Enéas Khalidi, and Issha Anand.

Cheke (sh-eck) The primary language of Eclistan, Cheke has different naming conventions between genders with women’s surnames indicated by adding “-a” to the end of the male surname. Alternatively, it can be said that the male surname is derived by removing the feminine “-a”.

Characters with Cheke names include: Bjorn Rabinov.

Okay this might be so stupid and I'm going to get beaten for this (and I don't even know if this has been asked earlier) but I wanted to know: since of course you can be queer while having an "heterosexual relationship" (idk how should I call that, but I meant boy-girl) will we get to see a couple like that in the comic? I'd love to see Mav falling for a strong, indipendent girl♡ but I'd be happy with whoever you're planning to match with him lol he's a cutiepie

Like, we know (I know, as a bisexual person), that being in a straight or straight-passing relationship does not invalidate your sexuality, and you’re still queer, but like we’ve said about a gazillion times we want to SPECIFICALLY represent mlm/wlw relationships in this comic. Characters who are bisexual will remain bisexual, Mav’s past crushes (crush) on girls (a girl) will remain while he might end up with a guy.

But yeah nope still no major straight relationships here in No End you can go look for that somewhere else.

Also “strong independent girl” ಠ_ಠ- Kromi

Hey you know, you don't need to mock what people say and make ಠ_ಠ faces if they sound a little bit clumsy or whatever, thanks. I understand if you don't like getting asked for mlw couples, but what excactly is wrong with "strong independent woman"? What should the anon said instead? They already said they feel stupid and you just make them feel MORE stupid with passive aggressive "draws a deep breath" stuff. I love your comic and all but this is not nice.

You know when you get the same question several times despite having always said that No End is primarily a queer comic with a full cast of queer characters and there won’t be any straight couples, it gets tiring after a while. You ask a question you know is stupid (why ask tho if you know it’s going to get backlash?) and we won’t be treating you with kiddie gloves.

(The anon in question also already apologized in private and explained themselves better and as far as I’m concerned we’re cool: no need to white knight for them. We haven’t published that ask because we’ve been slow at replying asks and wouldn’t have necessarily replied it at all since we’re trying to keep more personal stuff like that out of this blog and answer questions that actually have something to do with the comic.)

“Strong independent woman” just rubbed me personally the wrong way, like, why say that? Are you implying the women in No End aren’t that? What’s wrong with weak, flawed women who are very much a reality but still very strong (and much more interesting) as characters? Just “woman” would’ve been enough. That’s more of a pet peeve, I guess. (And anon explained what they meant with that, too, in their other message.)

Like, hint taken: I am often abrasive and snarky, especially when it comes to questions along the lines of “why no straight couples?” (and there is no “if”, I don’t like being asked that), but sometimes I overreact a little. And this was one of those cases. Here’s an apology to the original anon so that your message can stay between us: I’m sorry, I overreacted.
