Carroll County Maryland Banned Books

Carroll County pulled 58 books from its school library shelves recently because of a push from the parent group, "Moms for Liberty”

This group is a national conservative organization, they have branches in most states including Alaska, Florida, and California. The group is “Dedicated to the survival of America by unifying, educating, and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government. We hold our school board accountable by maintaining relationships with each of the Board members.” According to the Carroll County branch mission statement. The organization has had many conservative leaders speak at their events, including Former President Donald J. Trump and, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

"Moms for Liberty", claims the books were too sexually explicit. Which has not been defined. According to the head of the group, Kit Hart, "People have said how you can define pornography and what's the answer there? I know it when I see it.¨

The superintendent says this is temporary to check if the books fit the new procedures and standards that "Moms for Liberty¨ has pushed onto the county. These standards give Liberians even more time-consuming work to do. All the books need to be read and checked for "Sexually explicit content” which again has not been defined. This could make it so there are not only fewer books but also fewer new books since it takes time to get approval.

As of September 15th, 4 books have already been deemed not for instructional material.

These 4 books aren't exactly banned, they can only be read with parental permission.

However, this is still censorship. If LGBTQ books are added to this list, kids with homophobic parents would not be able to access helpful and relatable stories and sources.

There was no internet at the time, however, and no deeply divided political groups to drive it, he said.”

“‘Thousands of kids are being deprived of books just on the say-so of, sometimes, a single parent,” - Chris Finan.

My favourite bald man™ Stanley Tucci would be Picard. Kind eyes, very organic acting. I’d totally buy him being an archeology nerd. And a captain, of course. His chemistry with Colin Firth in “Supernova” was so amazing I’d cast Firth as Q. The man always puts 110% into everything he’s in… Just think of Mamma Mia. He’d be such a fun Q

I’ve gushed about Jason Momoa and Regé-Jean Page as Worf and Riker before. You can read more about them in this older post of mine (including artwork by @punkbxt!!)

My girlfriend Pom Klementieff has experience playing an elegant empathic alien with beautiful black eyes so hey. Piece of cake. Also a great opportunity to have another variation of Troi’s accent AND some more physical action for her. Let her be the badass she can be!

Isla Fisher as Doctor Crusher because she’d make for an incredibly cute Beverly, while also pulling off the necessary assertiveness of the role. Maybe even let her keep her Aussie accent please? And yes, she’s very short, but my Geordi isn’t, so let’s have her as the ship’s tiny™

Geordi La Forge was a tough one bc he’s one of my ultimate comfort characters. (As a child I went around repeating his name just because of its beautiful sound. I had no idea about Trek yet at all lol) Anyway Michael B. Jordan usually gets cast in ‘tough guy’ roles but you know what? Everything is right here. Charming smile, husky voice, the range. Give him the VISOR, put him in a soft uniform and boom. Friend-shaped engineer of my dreams.

Data’s cast is similarly self-indulgent. You might know Felicity Jones from “Rogue One” or “Northanger Abbey”, where she plays naïve (and kinda stupid) dreamer Catherine Morland – she’d be a perfect Data. Could also be an especially crazy Lore and a whimsical Doctor Soong. Everything fits. Data’s quasi-romantic friendship with Geordi would be very cute to watch with her and Michael B. Jordan imo ♡

Moving on with Kristen Stewart as Tasha Yar, security chief of my dreams. Her Tasha would be more along the lines of her character in “Charlie’s Angels” I feel. A bit more chaotic energy than OG Tasha was ever allowed in her one season.

And, last but not least, Dev Patel as Reg Barclay because I Like It. Favourite actor for a favourite role. Dev plays amazing nervous wrecks and is just overall a joy to watch. He clearly should’ve been Khan in the AOS movies but hey. If no one wants him he’ll be my Broccoli and they’ll have to deal with it.

(Whoopi Goldberg will return as Guinan because as if I’d recast her lmao)

What is the worst part of watching The View?  Is it the voiceover lady who sounds like Kristen Bell as Gossip Girl Narrator?  Is it the realization that Whoopi is a fucking moron, that the woman who played the beloved, ancient, and Wise Guinan, says shit like “eugenics has nothing to do with race” and you’re like what wait WHAT WHOOPI???  Is it when you think you’re cool with Joy Behar and she gives an impassioned speech on behalf of Woody Allen?  Is it when Sunny seems cool but somehow cannot cross over into tolerable?  Is it the fact that there are not just one but TWO Republican Nepotism Princesses?  Is it that Abby Huntsman tans as hard as Ariana Grande? Is it Meghan McCain’s entire existence?  Is it when the ladies all unite to metaphorically fellate Joe Biden?  Is it when they ask any other presidential candidate why they’re not more like Joe Biden?  Is it the part where they just decide that women have had TOO MUCH INFORMATION in this 44 minute show so they devote the last segment to shopping?  So nice of them to bring some comforting shopping deals to settle down us womenfolk from getting too hysterical while discussing “hot topics,” gotta come down with some shopping
