the fact that velma got the highest ratings for an hbo max animated debut makes me want to puke. you guys need to learn how to hatewatch on non-legal sites instead of, you know, THE SERVICE THAT PROVIDES IT

So what we're NOT gonna do when James Somerton inevitably starts releasing new videos is hatewatch them, okay? Because a view is still a view whether or not it was watched with rage and disdain in your heart, you KNOW they'll be monetized, and at this point I'm sure he's doing this precisely TO bait in hatewatchers
Don't fund his comeback arc. Let him fade into obscurity like he deserves

i watched some urban exploration videos again today and while thinking how disrespectful and annoying the whole video was I remembered my OC lol he would fucking do all that shit
#i cant remember his username <\3 it was some edgy cringey shit on purpose#his actual name is Gregorio tho because he ahd a Gregorio face#he dresses like an eboy and is always pulling out weird shit to get attention#ends up getting into urban exploration and constantly sets up fake stuff and the tiktok kids eat it up#he always goes alone tho. because hes a jerk and has no friends and believes he can do everything better alone#i csnt decide if some ghost finally gets mad at him or if he just gets unlucky#but he ends up dying after falling during one of his explorations and getting trapped#hes in the middle of a live but no one attempts to help him. or thinks this is another one of his lies. so he dies all alone#hes like. those horrible content creators that are absolutely horrible but people hatewatch (or actually like seeing what he will do next)#like we r talking doxxing and sending death threats constantly type of behavior#he just can never stop bitching about everyone. everyhing is content for him. as long as it gets him views he doesnt care#he ends up becoming a ghost after that. the second he discovers the gravedigger's daughter can see him he starts haunting her#aka he annoys and bullies her everysingle day of her life and her meek ghost friend#i actually have a lot of silly doodles of this mfer i even intended to make him a sticker sheet. both in ghost and human form#i kind of miss doodling him it was therapeutic tbh#haunted.txt#gregorio (oc)#creepy content youtubers make videos about his case and it makes him mad as hell he cant capitalize on that. those r his views dammit!#if he could he would have done that deadtube thing lol#he has very unnerving eyes and likes staring at people to make them uncomfortable. both as a human and a ghost

okay on my continued rewatch of himym i just got to season 6 and the episodes about marshalls dad dying are so weirdly good? like. beautiful performances from the actors, great exploration of grief in an otherwise comedy-based show... they kind of went off with those eps
on the other hand it's disturbing how bigoted the jokes are and as the seasons progress it's unbelievable that they could still do that. early 2010s were so insanely homophobic/transphobic/fatphobic/misogynist/etc that shit just went on regular television

Hey just an FYI that Butch Hartman will still be on board the Fairly Oddparents reboot, A New Wish, as an executive producer.
I don't care if you think the reboot looks good or bad. Don't give Hartman any of your support. If you NEED to watch it, pirate it. This means don't give it any views on Paramount+ OR Nickelodeon. Don't go out of your way to officially hatewatch OR support it. The man is a piece of shit.

you guys say thus every fucking time a "bad" movie or tv show comes out and you never learn that their source of income is not going to be a bunch of 20 somethings who grew up watching yogscast buying tickets "for the bit". it is going to be parents taking their kids who play minecraft pocket edition on their phones. when will you guys learn that the main demographic of kids movies is in fact children. the minecraft movie is probably gonna make a buttload of money because it is the minecraft movie and children love minecraft and will beg their parents to take them. you posting on tumblr "dont hatewatch" isnt going to do anything, the same way posting it about velma or big mouth or whatever wasnt gonna do anything bc their main demographics are grown adults with jobs putting it to halfwatch after work over dinner which is why they got insanely good ratings. you arent going to fucking do anthing by saying "dont hatewatch" bc hatewatchers probably account for 5% of views MAXIMUM please stop trying oh my god oh my god oh my god

As others have said, instead of hatewatching Velma series and giving it more views, watch something like Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated.

my view on things is that actually its essential to "hatewatch" things. it's pretty important to consume, at least at a bare minimum level, media made by people who's beliefs are in direct opposition to your own or are directly harmful to your community. I think it's pretty important to forming opinions and stances on things. I think in order to understand why something is bad you must first understand that thing and that includes consuming content/media about it. anyways. hope you're having a nice day/night/whatever it is wherever you are.
yeah!!!

sorry for having Siegfried Thoughts™ again but i can't help but wonder what the timeline of his plan was for something this huge and insane! how long had it been since Siegfried discovered Leon's a duelist? was he workshopping an early version of his plan while hatewatching Battle City? and how long did the hacking of KaibaCorp's security systems actually take? we see Siegfried's infiltration of KaibaCorp as effortless: the man's just finished bathing when he starts the process! but i think this was all pre-planned - we see by the end of the tournament that Siegfried is exactly as obsessed with Seto as his father was with Gozaburo. there was no way Siegfried left anything to chance, and he was not as cool as he came off. i'm quietly amused by the idea of the extremely high-strung Siegfried planning an afternoon of luxury and relaxation just as he begins to fuck with the Kaibaland security systems, all in an effort to stop himself from going to pieces with the nerves 😭💔
this seems much more in-line with the Siegfried which slowly gets revealed as the arc goes on...the one who smashes the photoframe of him and Seto when they were younger out of sheer frustration; the one who has several maniacal laughing fits when he's defeated by Seto in a duel; the one who had to capitalise on his little brother's dueling prowess because he didn't think he could do it alone. to me, Siegfried isn't the cool, collected customer that Kaiba is, and that destroys him. everything about Siegfried screams insecurity, from the designer clothes to the one-hit-kill deck strategy. Siegfried wants to be Kaiba, and the way he reacts to any form of stress (except for Yami and Yuugi), so bad 🙈 perhaps this isn't everyone's view of Siegfried, but my headcanon is absolutely this brilliant, hypervigilant, hair-has-turned-lighter-from-the-stress man who has spent his entire life trying to be better than a guy he simply cannot surpass...because Kaiba doesn't feel the same way. i think of Siegfried going through years of stress prior to the tournament, with those cavernous castle rooms covered in scraps of paper and laptops running countless programs, all while he's nearly tearing his hair out trying to plan for every. single. eventuality 💔

RWBY, 13 Readons Why & The Dissuasion of Curiosity.
This is something I've often experienced with other shows be they stuff I have it bad for or stuff that I acknowledge is good but isn't for me. It's gotten to the point where when I see something getting dunked yet see that it's a fairly thriving series or even a full-on franchise, I start to scrutinize the scrutiny.
Especially when a lot of the popular talking points are either memes or passed around so often, they may as well be meme.
A while back, Netflix's 13 Reasons Why was bandied about Tumblr and YouTube as this most offensive thing for it's portrayal of suicide. I was aware of how this wasn't the sort of subject to take lightly lest I be eating my foot for a full course meal. As such, I took the outrage's word for it and steered clear.
I did start to get curious with a lot of specific scenes from Season 1 being passed around for the afformentioned dunking. Such as Hannah calling Clay a nerd for referencing Star Wars only for said post to show how much The Force Awakens grossed.
Said curiosity grew when I saw many video essays tackling 13 Reasons Why. Most were negative but what I footage saw didn't seem bad. Some of it was pretty... nice actually. But still, this was the show that gave suicide and poor mental health a bad name with how the female lead took her own life seemingly out of revenge.
So... I stayed away. That is, until I saw a billboard for Season 2 in NYC. Now this got me seeing that this show had a legit audience. Not just hatewatchers but those invested in the story of Hannah Baker and Clay Jensen. That's when I decided to add it to my watch list.
At best, it would be bad but maybe a fascinating kind of bad. The kind that RiffTrax would sink their teeth into. At worst, it would be a bore and I'd turn the other way. Then I started to watch it.
Twenty Six episodes later... I loved it. I felt that it... spoke to me emotionally on how life can be so messed up. I loved how no character was totally good or bad. How even Number 12 on the tapes had his depths despite being, well, the worst really.
When Hannah reached the end of her rope, I found myself begging her to not do what I knew she'd do. When Tyler Down tried to take matters into his own hands, I wished I could be there to talk him down. It takes a very special kind of story to invoke that kind of visceral dread.
Now if you've heard me out, how it relates to RWBY is that a lot of the dismissal and derision relies on a specific kind of media illiteracy: the active lack of curiosity.
Rather than be curious about people pitching a fit about "X show" and seeing for themselves what all the hubbub is about, they just stay away. They go with the crowd essentially.
And why wouldn't they? It's like how school bullies get away with picking on their victims even in front of others. Anyone else who doesn't want to play hero would keep their head down and not even be associated with the targeted kid.
I mean, we've got clickbait titles called "We Watch 'X' So You Don't Have To." That is literally ripping off the Nostalgia Critic AKA baby's first Angry Geek. It's not that looking into a show so you'd know if it's worth your time or not is bad. It's when it's from second hand sources like very leading Video Essays.
So many act autoritative and present themselves with the kind of confidence we so wish we had in ourselves. We trust that they're editing isn't being coy and that their assessment is legitimate or, if more emotionally, honest at the very least.
But what about the show itself? Why not find any clips online that highlight certain moments? Why not at least view some of the trailers? Why not go onto subreddits or Socials to ask, "Hey, why do some many seem to like this show?"
Because between James Somerton and Lily Orchard, it's become abundantly clear that there are many who are willing to abuse this this trust. And they are not isolated incidents. Even those who maybe are just giving their opinion may be twisting facts to suit their narrative. They also may be not.
But you won't know unless we let ourselves be curious. Is the show trash? Or is it just another punching bag for YouTubers to hit so money will fall out if they make a hard enough blow?
Is the show truly offensive? Or did it mishandled pre-warning those of its subject content?
Is the show bad... or just not for you?
Be curious. Find the answers for yourself. Nobody is ever immune from mob mentality.
Obviously I am not trying to demonize those who take umbrage with 13 Reasons Why. I’ve seen the scenes and know why they aren’t very beloved. This is about how not everything is just “show bad” or that you must like only “good media.”
