HER STORY IS INCREDIBLE EVERYONE SIT DOWN AND LEARN FROM THIS QUEEN ⤵️

Kiana Scott, who played minor hockey system for 11 seasons, including four seasons on boys teams, gravitated to scouting from watching her brother’s games and critiquing his strengths and weaknesses.

Unaware of jobs available in hockey, she enrolled in makeup artistry college after high school, but knew her heart was in the sport.

She eventually enrolled in an online hockey general manager scouting course.

Scott joined the International Scouting Service Hockey mentorship program in 2018 and scouted for the service for two years while holding down two jobs.

“I love scouting future prospects, and the evaluation process,” she said. “I think that's kind of where my passion lies. It's just the evaluation process. And it's exciting, building a team.”

Scott spent two seasons as a full-time scout for Erie before she took a bold step and left the organization to move to Calgary and became an independent scout in June 2022.

“I just kept practicing my craft and kind of paid my own way, like, throughout the whole year,” she said. “All of the tickets to every game, all of my travel expenses, everything. I just put all my money into scouting and trying to evolve and then I ended up getting my (Avalanche) internship the next year.”

Scott had some financial help from her family for the move and she supplemented her income by working as a bartender at a Calgary casino, a job with hours that allowed her to scout games.

If all that wasn’t enough, she also enrolled in the University of Florida’s online sports management program.

“I've always had the mindset to just keep betting on myself and working hard and evolving,” she said. “I think I've taken a lot of risks to get to where I am, but I wouldn't try to change the journey for anything.”

Scott said she hopes women, women of color and people who don’t come from a so-called “traditional” hockey background will follow her on the journey.

“I grew up playing hockey, but I didn’t play professional hockey, I didn’t go to college or university for hockey,” she said. “I just had a passion for it. I love scouting. I worked at it, and I continue working at my craft.

“People that don’t necessarily come from the traditional background, I hope they see themselves in me and believe that they can put their minds to it and get it done.”

The 2024 NHL Draft was as eventful for Kiana Scott as it was for the players who were selected in the seven-round event at Sphere in Las Vegas last month.

The 25-year-old Barrie, Ontario, native signed with the Colorado Avalanche at the draft to become a full-time amateur scout, fulfilling a goal she has had since she was a teenager.

“This is something that I've worked really hard for my whole career to be able to sign my first NHL contract,” Scott said. “I was elated. The Avs have been really good for me the past year, and I’m excited to keep building with them.”

Scott joined the Avalanche after working as an intern for the organization.

Colorado general manager Chris MacFarland said he and executive director of hockey operations Suzanne Borchert “were impressed with her work ethic and her passion."

MacFarland said: “Kiana was on our radar when she was scouting in major junior circuits ... and it worked that a few years ago we had an internship opportunity for her.

“She did a good job in that role and was an integral part of our amateur scouting department. We’re excited to see her contributions moving forward in her full-time role as an amateur scout.”

Scott made history when she became the first woman scout in the Ontario Hockey League with Erie in March 2020.

She was among the initial of a wave of women who were hired in recent years as scouts at all levels of hockey, including Cammi Granato (Seattle Kraken), Blake Bolden (Los Angeles Kings), Krissy Wendell-Pohl (Pittsburgh Penguins), Meghan Hunter (Chicago Blackhawks), Gabriella Switaj (Anaheim Ducks) and Brigette Lacquette (Chicago Blackhawks).

Granato moved on from Seattle to become an assistant general manager for the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 10, 2022, and Hunter was promoted to assistant GM by the Blackhawks on June 22, 2022.

“When I first started scouting, I didn’t know of any women in the industry already,” she said. “Cammi Granato got her job with the NHL a year after I started scouting. That’s when I kind of knew it was possible. But I never had anyone to look up to. I just had this dream and the passion for hockey. I knew that I had to the talent and skill to do it, and to try to keep building on them.

"That’s what I’ve always gone off on -- keep evolving, never give up on what you love.”

The thing about Kristoph is... He has a bizarre sense of entitlement. He's delusional, His breakdown at the end makes me think he doesn't even understand he's in the wrong,

He think's he's in the right and he think's he's owed things, so when he thinks he's been slighted, he does shitty thing because he thinks he can get away with it, he doesn't need to, but he thinks he's right so he does it anyway

As such, I imagine Krissy actually falling for Nick at some point during their confusing 7 years

Why? Cause he like Phoenix's attention and affection (Kris is definetly a man who didn't get enough love as a kid) and he thinks he deserves his love and attention.

Who cares if he majorly screwed over Nick and got him disbarred? He likes his affection so he should have it. Nick is hot and Kristoph is Gay so he shall posses him.

But notably, I can imagine Kristoph actually being hurt by the fact that Phoenix exposed him. He's delusional and entitled, how dare Phoenix do this to him after everything.

"How dare he not get over what I did to him and make me face the conseqences of my actions?!"

oh my god i see it. especially bc i do also hc that he felt very betrayed and offended by phoenix exposing him! he thought he knew Phoenix better than that and he has to realise he was wrong, maybe the seven years of companionship wasnt enough to fool the turnabout terror. he either underestimated phoenix's dedication to the truth or he thought he had broken phoenix down enough that phoenix would let kristoph frame olga without question.

personally my interpretation is a bit different when it comes to kris's feelings tho- i like to hc that kristoph would never even admit to himself that hes in love with phoenix. he rationalises all his feelings away bc if he lets those butterflies in his stomach reach his heart it might just kill him.

He feels posessive of Phoenix and wants to monopolise his time, but he tells himself its because he needs to keep an eye on him, keep him in check. any time phoenix smiles warmly at him it makes his heart race but he tells himself it's just excitement that phoenix is falling into his trap nothing more.

deep down he knows he's in love, of course he does, he's a smart man. but he also knows that the greatest expression of that love would be to come clean, and he cant be doing that, that would make Phoenix leave his life, leave him. so he decides to keep phoenix close by forcing him to remain dependent on kristoph's generosity, a selfish kind of love that's borne from paranoia and desparation.

he definitely does have a sense of entitlement tho. those 7 years of him paying for trucy's school trips and maining a friendship and intimacy with phoenix held a lot of value to him, and he has a hard time reconciling that with how seemly-quickly phoenix threw it all away. because he's selfish, spoiled, entitled, and in love.

Smegtober #4: Virtual Reality

The room is sterile, perfectly white walls unbroken by any unnecessary patterns or pictures or posters, the overhead lights blinding in their pure brightness, minimalist metal chairs sleek, hard, and cold, leaving one anxious to stand up and stretch once the session is over, and the wireless suits ready to use and laid out upon tables that are free of any useless clutter. The lifeless atmosphere is even clearer now, with the space emptied of its usual occupants and quiet except for the low hum of electricity.

     It unnerved Kris the first time she was in the room alone, the only student left, but over time, she's grown used to it. It seems you can grow used to any environment if given long enough, even one that feels like it's trying to shut you out, doing its best to make you feel unwelcome.

     Besides, this is the closest Kris has come to what might be called a home.

     She grabs her suit and slips it on. Approaching one of the desks, she pulls out its chair; the squeak of its legs against the tiled floor interrupts the ambiance and echoes through the nearly silent place. Seated, Kris places the headset on and adjusts it so it rests snuggly over her eyes. She brings her hand up to a small switch on the device, near her temple, flips it–

     “Welcome home, Krissy!” Her mother's arms envelope her within a tight, warm hug. She catches a whiff of perfume: a strong scent of jasmine. As she's released from the embrace, she smells the dinner the cook has prepared; it is Christmas Eve and she's in her family home.

     Her father stands in the doorway to the dining room, a mug in hand. “Kristine,” he smiles, “How was this last term?”

      “Well, we got to talk with Shakespeare again after reading Antony and Cleopatra. We saw a recreation of its first performance in The Globe, then we even discussed its accuracy with Antony and Cleopatra themselves! I wrote about it during finals and got an ‘A’ in the course.” She beams with pride as she speaks of her paper. Miss Brody had really praised her for that one.

     “That's lovely, dear,” her mother replies. One of their maids had brought mugs for her and Kris, so she hands one to the latter. “And not at all surprising. You've always been our straight-A scholar.”

     “That's right, Krissy. We're so proud of you!”

     Kris beams brighter. The words make her feel warm in a way the short, hurried messages from home fail to do. Later, laying in bed in her dorm that's been vacated of its other residents for the holidays, this moment will ring as false as it is; she'll feel a faint shame at her indulgence. But that's then and this is now, and dinner is ready to be served. Her father will talk about his latest excavation, her mother will talk about the ads she's working on for a pharmaceutical company or a new energy drink or the most recent model of hoppers, and Kris will enjoy every moment, basking in the glow of honey-yellow candlelight.

     In the classroom, Kris unconsciously shifts in her chair.

As April 10 is International Siblings Day, I wanted to put together a brief masterpost with previous times I have talked about the Barbie siblings.

The Roberts siblings, in full.

Skipper Roberts, the first and oldest younger sister.

Stacie Roberts, the middle sister.

Tutti Roberts, the discontinued little sister.

Kelly Roberts, now Chelsea Roberts.

Krissy Roberts, the shortlived baby of the family.

I notice now that although I talk about him in the Roberts siblings post, and of course he rates a mention in both the Tutti and Stacie posts, I have never made a post about the forgotten, discontinued, only male sibling of the Roberts family... Todd.

What happened to Todd, Barbie? Why did you forsake your younger brother like this? Did you send him to go live with Ken? Do you not talk about him? Did some tragedy befall him? Was it the same tragedy that would later take baby Krissy?

The people need answers, Mattel.

Anyway, happy International Sibling Day to all those who have siblings, and try not to think too hard about the changing children of the Roberts family.

Some Red Dwarf Uniform Headcanons

Series 1 is the bonafide Space Corps uniform, at least for people working in commercial branches like JMC

Series 7 Flashbacks to that hideous blue uniform are specific to Kochanski's dimension

Series 8 is what the nanobots thought would be an improvement on this design - because they also recreated the crew, the crew didn't notice any difference

As for Rimmer and Lister's 'uniform' choices

Series 1 and 2 - They're both still lost and trying to figure out how to actually cope with their situation, so Rimmer holds fast to his pre-death routines, which includes a smart uniform. Lister just stops caring, but continues wearing hawaiian shirts and London Jets shirts like he did before as a way to buck authority. These also represent him trying to keep a link to his homeland (England) and his dream of retiring in a tropical paradise (Fiji)

Rimmer in Series 3 onwards - There have always been specific uniforms for Hologrammatic crewmen to wear, however most ships don't enforce this as having an H glued to your forehead is bad enough without further 'othering' the dead. Rimmer only stops wearing his original uniform when he finally accepts his new status, with Green meaning he's a hologram purely generated by Holly, Red meaning he's operating via Light Bee (likely something the crew scavenge at some point), and Blue as we know meaning Hard Light. He sticks with the blue from thereon in (apart from his Ace Rimmer stint) as he's fairly comfortable with the uniform.

Lister in Series 3 onwards - After reasonably adjusting to his lot in life as much as he can, and accepting he'll never see England again, or see Fiji at all, he discards the last of his uniform to try and be himself and tries to return to being the wannabe arty-farty type he always wanted to be (see 17 year old Sham Glam Lister for reference), resulting in his Space Biker look. But when he actually truly adjusts to their situation he ditches the biker jacket in favour of the Ripley-esque Space Trucker boiler suit, cos it's easier for him to do repairs while wearing it compared to a heavy jacket. But after losing Krissie he returns to his Space Biker outfits, having kind of given up on improving his lot. By the later series he's wearing the biker jackets and hawaiian shirts to try and recapture his youth.

As for the cat? He makes what he can with the materials he has at his disposal and deems whatever he makes at that time to be what's in fashion.... And Kryten? Well they just kind of cannibalise body covers off the dead series 4000 mechanoids they come across (a bit morbid but probably necessary), with Lister making custom parts if needed...

Met her? 'Course I've met her before! She was the one that even made our show possible! Yeah, she may've been a darn demanding boss, but she was ne'er unfair to her actors! She was great even! Lovely lady.

But ah well, sometimes fate just really screws ya over. One day she just suddenly vanished from town, leavin' us behind with no job, no purpose... really hit us hard, 'specially Lil' Pardner. They never even got a chance to stand on stage.

And now that she's back, she doesn't pay us old folks of hers any attention. Guess she thinks cowboy shows don't do the trick for the lightners anymore.

But no need to worry 'bout us. We still got our little town, and hey, who knows, maybe ol' Krissie will be able to bring us back on the big screen! Tenna really seems to care 'bout their opponion on stuff. No clue why, but hey, that might just be our ticket back to fame, so you won't hear me complainin', hahah!

The Punk and The Suit 5

After a few lunches of proving Kristoph can at least stand on a board without falling and getting glares from Eric and his cronies, Kieran and Kristoph make plans for a Saturday.

“So if you are actually going to ride the board, you are going need clothes you can get dirty and shoes with some actual give in the soles that you won’t mind getting scuffed.”

Kristoph just looks nervous and nods.

“You do have other shoes right?”

Kristoph pursed his lips and shakes his head, “Dress and golf shoes for meeting with some clients that refuse to meet in the office.”

Kieran rolls his eyes, “Well we can go get you some cheap skate shoes.…….you got clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, right?”

Kristoph refuses to meet his eyes,

“RIGHT?”

Kristoph turns back to Kieran with a pained face, “Pajamas?”

Kieran stands up, “Are you fucking kidding me!? All you own are suits?”

Kristoph tries to defend himself, “No, I own Polo’s too, that’s not a suit!”

“That is just weekend suit, causal suit, this mother fucker!”

Kristoph trying to get back on skating, “I have seen people go skating in pajamas.”

“And I bet even your pajamas have ties.”

Kristoph looks away.

“No! No Way!”

“It’s only one pair! It was a novelty gift I got for Christmas. It’s not even a real tie. It just on one side of the shirt to look like a tie when you button it up.”

Kieran is laughing hard to himself, “Motherfucker got ties and buttons on his pajamas.”

Kristoph tries for a good comeback, “They are a high qualify material and they feel nice. Probably nicer fabric than anything you wear.”

“Since I usually sleep naked, yeah, I bet the fabric is.”

Kristoph was glad he was already blushing or else it would be obvious were his mind was going.

“Whatever, I guess we just got to take you on a small shopping trip.”

Kristoph huffed, “Fine but we should get you a suit while we are at it.”

Kieran reacts shocked, “Who says I don’t have a suit?”

Kristoph looks him up and down, “Whatever suit you do have, if you have one, doesn’t fit you well. Was probably bought at some budget store, black slacks and blazer with a white button up. If there is a tie, most likely that is black as well or high school colors. Fits you loose, wore once, that you bought out of necessity and never wore again. Or is some family hand-me-down that gets passed around when needed. And the way you and Patrick act, my guess is the only time you wear a suit is to get married, get buried, or to go to court. Sounds about right?”

Kieran laughs and flips him off, “WOW. I didn’t know you could be a dick, Kris.”

Kristoph laughs quietly, “I am in Marketing. My whole job is to study people and try and learn what they like and don’t like to try and get them to buy our product. The product of that is sometimes you get pretty good at reading people.”

“Oh and that gives you permission to be a Pissy Krissy?”

“That means I can call out people on things sometimes that they might not know themselves. For example, people will almost always get the taller cup, even when the shorter cup can hold more, because the taller cup looks like more. And since you were giving me a roasting me about my closet, thought it was fair to send a few embers back at you.” Kristoph grins

Kieran laughs, “Well you’re not wrong. I do only have one suit. It does fit like shit. I have worn it more than once but only for weddings and funerals, so yes black with white button up. Bow Tie because I am fucking fancy.”

Kristoph snorts at the bow tie comment, “I would like to see you in the bow tie.”

Kieran leans into Kristoph, “No other clothes, just the bow tie?” and begins to laugh. “Fine, we will get you some NORMAL clothes to skate in and I’ll get a good suit since I have the art thing coming up. My manager has been bitching about showing up in my normal attire. Stated I needed to dress up for the press anyways.”

Kristoph smiles, “It’s a date then?”

Kieran, “A date. Especially if our families ask.”

Jody has night terrors of her son dying in her arms and getting infected with the disease he carried herself. she does police work from home most of the time

Dean and Claire go for walks in the forest sometimes and end up staying out late enough they end up building campfires and talking for hours. Dean ends up giving Claire her first tattoo with a stick and poke

Cas’ hair tends to grey when he’s low on grace and it always makes dean look twice. when dean gets older and his own hair starts to grey cas tries to heal him with grace. it doesn’t work.

Sam’s hands are stained red because of the blood addiction. no matter how hard he tries to scrub it doesn’t go away

Jack takes twice the amount of adderall to deal with his ADHD which is more of a grace/soul problem than a genetic linked problem.

Kaia practices spiritualism regularly and constantly has a hamsa or an evil eye on her for protection. she smells like inscence and marijuana

Krissy Chambers writes to dean regularly and he often writes back to her. they have an unspoken agreement that they’d drop whatever they’re doing in a moments notice for one another.
