The stadium was buzzing with excitement as the US Women's National Team prepared to face their arch-rivals, Canada, in the final match of the tournament. The air was charged with anticipation, and I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins. But amidst the roar of the crowd and the palpable tension, my thoughts were focused on my girlfriend. 

Kristie and I had kept our relationship a secret from the world. It wasn't that we were ashamed; we just wanted to keep our personal lives separate from our professional ones. But that didn't stop our hearts from beating in sync whenever we were on the field together. Our chemistry was undeniable, and it fueled our passion for the game.

As the referee blew the whistle to start the match, I could see Kristie across the field, her hair catching the sunlight as she sprinted down the wing. I knew that this game was crucial, and I was determined to give it my all.

Minutes turned into hours as the battle raged on. Our team was defending valiantly, but Canada was unrelenting. I found myself in a fierce one-on-one duel with Canada's star midfielder, Jessie Fleming. She was known for her toughness, and today was no exception. Having played with her in college, I knew the advantages when playing against her were slim so in a desperate attempt to win the ball, I leaped into the air to head the ball, but the collision was brutal.

I felt the impact, sharp and dizzying, as my forehead connected with Fleming's shoulder. For a moment, the world spun, and I saw stars. Panic bubbled within me as I realized the game was still in play. I couldn't let my teammates down.

Ignoring the throbbing pain in my head, I stumbled to my feet, feigning strength, and forced myself to keep running. I couldn't show any sign of weakness. The play continued around me, and I did my best to stay in the game, but my vision was blurry, and the pain in my head was intensifying with each passing second.

I could hear Kristie calling my name, concern etched into her voice, but I couldn't let her worry. I had to prove I could handle this, for her and for the team. As the halftime whistle blew, I headed towards the locker room, praying that some rest would help me recover.

Inside the locker room, Kristie rushed to my side, her eyes filled with worry. "Y/N, are you okay? You took quite a hit out there."

I tried to smile, but it must have looked more like a grimace. "I'm fine, Kris. Just a little dizzy. I'll be back out there in the second half."

She didn't look convinced, but she nodded and gave me a quick kiss on the forehead. "Just be careful, okay? I love you."

"I love you too," I replied, my heart aching with gratitude for her understanding.

The second half of the game was a blur. I did my best to contribute to the team, but I was far from my best. Every time I touched the ball, the pain in my head flared up, but I soldiered on.

As the final whistle blew, signaling a hard-fought victory for our team against Canada, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. I had made it through the game, but I knew I needed medical attention. Kristie rushed to my side once again, her concern evident.

"You need to get checked out, Y/N," she insisted.

Despite Kristie's concern and insistence that I get checked out, I stubbornly refused. We have back to back games and I am finally earning my spot to stay part of USWNT and as a starter. 

As we made our way back to the team hotel, I tried to keep up appearances, laughing and joking with my teammates. However, the throbbing pain in my head was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. I could feel the effects of the collision with Jessie Fleming creeping up on me.

At dinner in the hotel, I sat with the team, trying to hide my discomfort. But it didn't take long for my condition to become apparent. Mid-conversation, I suddenly stopped talking, a sharp pain shooting through my head. My vision blurred, and my fork slipped from my hand, clattering onto the plate.

Kristie was the first to notice, her eyes widening in alarm. "Y/N, are you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

I tried to respond, but my words came out slurred, and I struggled to stay upright in my chair. Panic began to wash over me as my teammates exchanged worried glances.

Tobin Heath, always quick on her feet, rushed to my side, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the situation. "Y/N, can you tell me your name? What's today's date?" she asked, trying to gauge my level of awareness.

I attempted to answer, but the pain in my head made it difficult to concentrate. "Y/N... Today... um… d-don’t know… hurts" I stammered, my voice barely audible, my thoughts scattered.

Lindsey Horan, recognizing the seriousness of the situation, jumped from her seat and dashed to grab the team's athletic trainer, who quickly began assessing my condition.

The trainer checked my pupils and asked me a series of questions, continuing to evaluate my cognitive function. "Can you tell me where we are right now? Do you remember what happened during the game?"

My responses remained incoherent, and my teammates exchanged worried glances. The room seemed to spin around me, and I leaned heavily on Kristie for support.

"We need to get her to a hospital," the trainer said, her voice filled with concern.

The team sprang into action, surrounding me with support and concern as they guided me to the front of the hotel. Minutes later, I found myself in an ambulance, racing towards the nearest hospital, Kristie next to me, holding my hand tightly.

Riko was breathing very heavily as she cough up blood, her arms were numb and burning. She felt her body began to feel sluggish and tired but she shook her head and gritted her teeth. She has to go on and avenge her clan, her dad, her brothers and most importantly her mother. Her ancestor was the creator so now many millions years later she is the destroyer.

Gritting her teeth in rage and anger, hands clutching the sword tightly as Riko closed her eyes for a moment before opening them and gave the demon sorcerer the most bone chilling stare ever known to the realms. Her grey eyes glowed intensely with unlimited rage and fury.

Despite being a powerful sorcerer and deadly, Quan Chi couldn’t help but feel fear for the first time. He may have underestimated the Grand mistress of the Tokugawa clan. She wasn’t this weak and helpless earthrealmer he thought he could simply but he should’ve had the chance to kill her when she was at her lowest point.

Riko went out of her way for revenge and blood as will not stop at nothing to achieve her goal. “You will pay for what you’ve done, Quan Chi.” She said in a dark poisonous sharp voice tone.

With a cry of despair, fury, anger, rage and sadness as Riko charge forward as Quan Chi who did the same. The most historic battle commence as Riko will make things right.

“If I’m going down then I’m taking you down with me!” She yelled as her sword swiftly cut Quan Chi’s head and held it in her hand. The nightmare is over as her family can finally rest.

Her oldest brother summoned samurai smiled proudly at her as he began to disintegrate into shards before fading away. Riko smiled as tears soon fell from her face and stared at the moon.

Ten year old Riko Tokugawa was beaming in joy and happiness as she held her new baby brother not noticing her mother’s tears falling from her face. Aoi was filled in despair and guilt as Riko will have to grow up fast and make choices that will affect the clan’s future.

Choices that will lead to great sacrifices and consequences. Aoi knew that they are others haunting them down because of their gift. But she will be damn if they ever harm her children. She had lost her oldest son to that demon.

“Mama! Why are you crying?” Little Riko said as her mother quickly wiped her tears away and gave her a gentle smile. “Nothing my little butterfly. It seems your little brother loves you very much.” Aoi said as her new born son had a tight clutch on Riko who didn’t mind one bit.

“I’ll make sure to always protect my baby brothers! No harm will come to them as long as I’m alive. I promise you mommy.” She said as Aoi couldn’t help but cry again and brought both of her beautiful gifts into her weak arms.

“I’m sorry Riko….. please forgive me.” Her mom whispered quietly as a single tear fell from her eyes as she tighten her embrace around them. She knew her time is over as something evil and vile is coming to end them.

“I love you mama.” Little Riko said happily as Aoi smiled with tears and place a kiss on her forehead before singing them a lullaby. She watch as her bundle of joys drifted off to sleep.

Thirteen year old Riko cried and scream as she held her mother and her baby brother’s lifeless body in her arms. She was covered in blood as her dear oldest brother laid lifelessly few feet away from her. “Mom!” She yelled as tears fell from her cut and bruised face. The moon was hauntingly shining through the broken window.

Blood stains covered the floor and walls as many various of Tokugawa warriors laid lifelessly cold across the palace. Riko only numbly sat in the blood covered floor as she wanted to throw up, cry, and scream but she only sat emotionless in the room slowly being consumed in grief and rage. She let out a gut wrenching scream as she hysterically cried.

By the time Hanzo and Liu Kang made it to the Tokugawa compound it was already too late. The fire God watch in sadness as the young future Grandmistress held her mother’s body as she numbly and helplessly stared at them.

Riko was covered in so much blood, blood that belong to her family and older brother whom she had to kill since he killed her little brothers. The Tokugawa flag hang loosely covered in blood with some edges rip off. Grey sad eyes stared dully as the light in them faded forever.

In that moment, Liu Kang knew that Riko’s happiness and light faded away. She was not the same anymore as she had lost the will to live and was only onsumed by rage and anger.

I miss the air, I miss my friends

Life was a party to be thrown

Kimiko cried as Riko let out the most gut and heart wrenching scream that was combined with sadness, rage, guilt, anger, despair. She held her dear sister in her arms as they both cried in front of a very beautiful gravestone.

Harumi wipe her tears as she joined in the hug as she brought the both of them into her arms. Riko clutch tightly her kimono and cried her heavy heart out. Mama Harumi began to hum a soft melody as Hanzo later joined into hug and began to hum the melody. It was Aoi’s lullaby.

From heaven Aoi smiled sadly as her only daughter cried out for them. She had many regrets but her main regret is leaving her little butterfly behind all alone in the world. But she is very proud of her daughter and how far Riko came and how much she grew. Aoi would have loved Tomas very much. He was the perfect son-in-law much to her husband’s dismay.

“I wish our little girl had chosen a more mature man to marry.” He said grumpily as Aoi giggle and place a kiss on his cheek. “Oh my love, you are just a big hater. Tomas is a wonderful man for our little butterfly. He makes her happy.” She said softly as her husband’s eyes softened.

“ As long as she’s happy then I’m good to go. But I will haunt him if he makes Riko cry or upset.” He said in a very threatening tone. Aoi rolled her eyes and watch the sight before her.

Later that evening Kimiko made sure that any of the injured Shirai Ryu and Tokugawa warriors were alive and treated. Then came the happiest moment as Tomas proposed to Riko in which she happily accepted as they both shared a beautiful kiss together. Harumi chuckled lightly as Hanzo cried in a manly expression proud of Riko whom he sees as his own daughter.

Kimiko clutch Kuai Liang’s arm tightly as she squealed in happiness and joy. She cried in joy as her dear sister finally got the happiness she needed and deeply deserved. Kimi won’t have to worry because Tomas will make sure nothing happens to her or else she’ll take drastic action.

Kuai Liang smiled proudly at his brother for confessing his love to the woman he loves deeply. His wife Kimiko was shaking in joy and happiness. They both watch as the two married couple happily dance in each other’s embrace.

“Wow Grandma Aoi is so beautiful!” A little girl said as her mother Riko chuckled lightly and smiled at the beautiful statue of her mother. “Not only was she beautiful but also brave, kind and noble.” She said softly as her two children were happily running around in the garden.

Riko gave birth to two beautiful twin children, one boy and one girl just like their father. Her son had inherited the family Glyphs ability. A new era was beginning to emerge but so did other enemies as Bi Han and his Lin Kuei were now a big threat to Earthrealm but all is calm. Liu Kang smiled brightly as he watch the future protectors of Earthrealm grow up little by little.

The Fire God watch in joy as Kimiko’s three lovely daughters happily helped the twins train in hand to hand combat and martial arts.

Tomas felt weird being in a high position but as long as he supports his wife and children then he’s not complaining. He lost his family but gain a new one. Riko was his greatest gift in his life.

“Grandmaster Tomas, Lord Wu Lae is here.” A warrior said as Tomas nodded and kiss Riko in the cheek before leaving the gardens to discuss on how they could stop Bi Han and his Lin Kuei.

They will do anything to stop him no matter the outcome as they will be ready and waiting for him and his Lin Kuei with the help of Liu Kang.

I’m deeply sorry for the lack of post updates here. It’s been extremely difficult and busy for me with work. It’s been a very rough month but I’m excited to go into summer break soon.

For a while I wanted to write a story for my MK1 oc with Tomas as I’m very sorry if that’s selfish of me to do here and makes you guys uncomfortable if I do this kind of work here.

And we finish the season on Cang Xuan's coronation but what really hits me is the look on his face as his grandfather walks away after the ceremony, because he does not look like a man who's won but as a boy who watches yet another family member leave him.

(Grandpa telling XY he knew CX had troops he could use to overthrow him but that's fine because that would just mean he's the chip off the old block as grandpa would have done that himself is A+++ But then, he adds, CX did not do it which means he's kinder than grandpa, which is not a bad thing.)

Aaaaand we are done. I hope we get s2 at some point and that it's not cut up to shreds (I am not going to add "and that it's good" because if it's not cut up, it will be, it was all filmed at once and only broken into two due to the idiotic regs) but honestly even if we don't, I don't care - I adored Ever Night 1 and Princess Agents both, and neither is diminished for me by either a bad sequel or lack of one; they adapted half the novel and I can read the book for the rest. This was that rare event for me - a perfect cdrama. We get one a year at most, if we are lucky, and here it is. Anything else, like season 2, is honestly just gravy at this point.

Thank you thank you thank you stars for aligning for giving me this masterpiece and I am going to miss you - your characters and your worlds and your narratives - very much.

PS Watching this makes me incandescently angry about makers of The Golden Hairpin casting the can't act rapist Kris Wu because this shows how good Yang Zi can be in a proper role in a proper drama and to think that an adaptation of a really good novel, that looked gorgeously filmed and had her as FL will never see the light of day because of a man who shouldn't have been cast in the first place, fills me with rage.

I leapt down to the bottom of the pool. The sound was different down here, muted but echoing. I forced my mind smooth, blank, quiet. Then I filled it up again. The power was clear, sharp, and cold, but comfortable in the way a favorite (dry) sweater is. I could feel the shape of the pool around me, the edges and cracks I couldn’t see in the dark. I could feel the oily lumps of the things above me and Kris’ warmth. I was aware when something huge and shining and horribly bright thundered outside and the Fae halted it with a command. But mostly I felt the cold growing around me, the sudden strength it brought with it. It frosted the edges of the pool, puddled around my feet, grew up and around and beneath me. It was so beautiful. I felt so alive. When I opened my eyes, I was surrounded by chaos. I was level with the ground now, standing on a sheet of ice that filled the pool. It had both the Fae things trapped by the tails and squawking in panicked rage. Frost covered everything from the ground to the large furry shape just out of clear sight to the building behind me; everything except a perfect circle around Kris. He was laughing. “Trickery!” the things screamed. “No,” I hopped backwards onto the pavement. “Just insurance. It will melt into water. Eventually. Car, now.” I expected them to argue more, was really beginning to think we’d have no choice but to hold them at knife point. To my surprise, they didn’t, just waved their hands to a distant banging sound and went back to tugging at their tails.

It’s awards season!!!!!!! 

The Golden Globes sure got some smack. Jo Koy was raked over the coals for his idea of hosting. He kept angrily making excuses and telling the crowd he didn’t write some of the jokes. What?? It is a tough gig and I can sympathize BUT I don’t think he said any terrible things but it was the way he said it. Everybody was talking about Taylor Swift but I didn’t see that she seemed angry, she often looks like that. I was taken aback by the Barbie thing. He was right, as Greta Gerwig pointed out that it was true that they made a movie about a doll with big boobs. I think it was the way he said it. He was so dismissive on a night that was sort of celebratory for women. To have a box office smash all around a woman theme was a breakthrough. He treated it like it could not compare to the ‘important’ movies. He made fun of their work instead of some of the actual celebrity eccentricities like a Gervais might do. My best dressed were Issa Rae, Nicolas Cage, Rosamund Pike, Rachel Brosnahan, Brie Larson, Selena Gomez, Julia Garner, Andra Day, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jim Gaffigan, Matt Rhys, Natasha Lyonne, Natalie Portman, Margot Robbie, Lenny Kravitz, Deacon Phillippe, Kristen Wiig, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Emma Stone. The theme of the night seemed to be slicked back hair. Winners included Ricky Gervais, Davine Joy Randolph, Robert Downey Jr., Ali Wong, Lily Gladstone, Sarah Snook, Matt McFadden, Paul Giamatti and KIERAN CULKIN!! The whole audience stood when they called Culkin’s name which seemed to embarrass him but he so deserved it. There is always one older celeb who acts a bit strange, this year it was Kevin Costner who mumbled his banter and seemed to hate America Ferrera. They were an odd couple. A great couple was Martin Short and Meryl Streep who insist they are just good friends. They were so cute and I want them together in the worst way!! I was thrilled that the powers that be made this award show easy to watch. Award shows are very strict about keeping things on the network that broadcast the event. This show was on multiple sites. I always wonder about that because they don’t have enough ratings to be so selfish.

The Critics Choice awards were hosted by Chelsea Handler who did a good job. When Meryl Streep is nominated for tv, it reminds me of the Nascar Cup drivers that compete in the other races. She didn’t win anyway but it just doesn’t seem quite right.

The 75th Emmys was hosted by Anthony Anderson and he did a good job too. His Mother was even better. TV theme songs were front and center. I think Mr. Anderson just really wanted to sing them!  My best dressed were Sheryl Lee Ralph, Rhea Seehorn (who I was really routing for but no win), Ken and Tran Jeong, Alan Ruck, Dominique Fishback, Taylor Tomlinson, Brian Cox, Ali Wong (she nailed it at every show), Niecy Nash, Joy Sunday, Sarah Snook, Briga Heelan, Katherine Hiegel, Jenna Ortega, Donald Glover, Giancarlo Esposito, Jessica Chastain, Mario Bello, Keiran and Jazz, Claire Danes and Riley Keough. Princess Poppy stood out for the Green Goblin look. I was most excited to see Holland Taylor, Marla Gibbs, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel cast and Carol Burnett. Winners include Kieran again, Quinta Brunson, Niecy Nash-Betts, Sarah Snook, The Daily Show with Trever Noah and Succession. I laughed the most when the It’s Always Sunny cast came on. Give those funny humans some love academy!!!!** Seriously, I liked the winners in any Saul category that won but Better Call Saul was so overdue with 0 for 53. They did set a record though for the most nominated show that never won.** Kieran Culkin may be doing a comedy next. ** Listen to a drag queen.- RuPaul

(Apparently every single one of these words except for “left” can be found in either Fallon and Kristopher’s first date, or the scene titled Panic.  I tried to choose something other than those two scenes if it was an option, just to give a little variety.)

“What the hell do you mean you’re not certain?  Isn’t that your job?  What is going on?  Where’s Captain Blackthorne?” “Likely with the prisoner.” The guardsman swallowed nervously.  “What?”  Kristopher’s heart dropped, an icy first dragging it down. “I-“ The guard looked frantically from side to side, searching for backup. Kris stepped forwards.  “Explain to me what in the Morrigan’s name is going on, right now, or I swear I will knock you out cold and find out for myself.”

All of the flowers in the clearing were in full bloom, and their sweet scent filled the air.  In the shade of a white-blossomed tree, Kris has laid out a blanket.  Beside him was a basket filled with food.  A bottle of wine peeked out from behind it. “Oh…” Fallon exhaled softly.  “This is lovely.”  She slowly approached the picnic, picking her way carefully amidst the flowers.  “How…?”  She trailed off,  mouth watering as the scent of freshly baked bread reached her nose.  Kristopher smiled, pulling plates and wine glasses from the basket.  “I thought we might want some food after such an exciting ride.” He spread out an array of food before her.  A loaf of bread, miraculously still warm, a container of jam, large green grapes and a hunk of cheese.

SQUAWK! A hen scrambled out of the path of Phillip’s hooves.  He continued walking, apparently unbothered.  The country road was empty of other travelers and Kristopher and Fallon were able to ride side by side on the wide dirt track.  Overhead, the tree branches rustled softly in the gentle breeze and the sun was well into its trek across the sky.

Fallon balanced on the edge between sleeping and waking for hours, but never tipped over the edge in either direction.  She watched the clock through heavy eyes, counting the minutes and hours.  Sometimes, she closed her eyes and tried to sleep, but every sound sent her eyes flying open, body tense.  Eventually, the sun slowly began to rise, spilling golden morning light into the room. At some point she heard a knock on the door, and Nina rose to answer it.  Lavinia?  No, just Captain Blackthorne.  Soft voices from the hall.  Fallon knew they were talking about her, and strained her ears to hear the words.  Shock.  Rest.  Process.  Grieve.  All things she had heard countless times after her mother’s death.  Old memories mixed with new, and Fallon imagined Lavinia standing over her mother’s body, smiling.

The suitors didn’t attempt the hide that they were watching her, and Fallon’s neck prickled under their gaze.  She was tired of being watched.  She wanted to be left alone.  But even as she thought it, she knew it was a lie.  She’d been alone for five years.  She never wanted to be alone again.

(Not my stupid ass looking at “left” and thinking the relative direction, and being certain it wouldn’t show up in my manuscript.  Cue my surprise when it turned up as many results as the rest combined.)

can i just say something. can i give you a series of mental images. imagine with me for a moment. susie walking alone on the street in hometown, head high but slightly uncertain. she is much younger than we know her presently, but she wears her quintessential jacket. she’s practically drowning in it, but she is careful to keep the bottom from dragging. she’s not the biggest fan of school, but she can’t wait to make some friends and play with them in their free time. it is her first day at this new school, and she is excited.

the same shot happens, but things have changed slightly. susie is less walking and more stomping to school. she has shot up in height and general frame, but she’s still not the susie we know her as. she wears a pair of jeans that are a few inches too short, leaving them hovering between pants length and capris length. her neck is forward and her nostrils are flared, resembling a train barreling down the track. her bangs have yet to hide her eyes, so you can see tears clinging to the corners. she can’t get rid of the whispers rattling around her head; talking about her, how weird she is, how scary she is, how the other kids are afraid of her. she didn’t even Do anything!! the kid who pushed her started the fight!! but nobody wants to listen to her, and she is a flaming ball of rage over this injustice. it is another year of school, and she is Not happy about it.

the same shot, only now it’s raining. susie is who we know susie to be now—tall and large and intimidating. she hangs her head and lets her bangs obscure her vision; all to give her a more “dont fuck with me” image. her backpack drags on the ground, collecting mud and dirt. she is drenched. silently, she wishes she had someone to walk with her to share in this crappy day. or at least an umbrella. but there’s no one for her. there never has been. it’s another year of school, and she is resigned to her fate.

the same shot, but different again. now, she is no longer alone. kris walks beside her, nodding along as she very animatedly describes a show she’s been watching with noelle. her jacket is the same, but she has new jeans and a new shirt. (she still has yet to pay toriel back for the new outfit, but she has a feeling toriel wouldn’t take it anyway) her head no longer hangs or just out, but sits comfortably on her shoulders. held high. you can see her eyes, and they are twinkling with silent joy. she knows noelle will be waiting by her locker with that sweet smile as she asks how susie slept. she knows berdly will loudly announce how last nights gaming extravaganza was NOT a testament to his cs:go prowess and her and kris should call him again for round two. she knows classes will be hard and kinda boring, but the thought of it all coming to end fills her with a strange excitement that she hasn’t felt since childhood. it is her last year of school, and she finally feels home in hometown.

(sorry for my insanity but susie has been my fav for years and u remind me constantly abt how susie is The character of all time)

I also have an idea for his arena: a 4D theater like PhilharMagic, made up of Chairgore's rebuilt sitcom set. The battle screen would be split between the stage and Chairgore's sitcom (via a line of static), Kris, Susie, and Toriel on the stage, and Chairgore himself within his monochrome sitcom. Chairgore himself would have a rage-filled expression, still smiling, though said smile is strained. (The reason for the expression is he's extremely mad at Toriel, blaming her for his and Chairiel's divorce, and feeling like Kris betrayed him by bringing her here.

(I don't have a design for Toriel yet, sadly... @ok1237 gave me a good basis, but it's still in the works. I'm not against using a placeholder, though!)

Oh god I think I dreamt the secret boss of, not Deltarune Chapter 3, but considerably later??

Kris, Susie and Ralsei were exploring a mansion. I directed them to a side door, just while looking for items and stuff. But the game took control from me. Kris and Susie kept walking as Ralsei hesitated by the door, then entered.

He walked inside, and at an identical pace from the opposite direction came Other Ralsei.

Other Ralsei is from an earlier chapter - I won't say it was just a zany joke, but it was at least partly played for laughs. Other Ralsei looks and acts identical to Ralsei. There's nothing distinguishing their sprites, and he has the same polite, chipper attitude.

The difference is that Other Ralsei knows how expendable he is, and it fills him with smiling rage. At first he wanted to take Ralsei's place, but he's not confident that he can fill the same spot in such a tight-knit group without being found out. He has no goal at this point except to ruin everything and make Ralsei suffer.

he is also VERY strong.

The boss fight has you only controlling Ralsei, which, uh, is not easy!! It's hard enough just playing as Kris; Ralsei is still optimized only to heal his teammates, and Other Ralsei is too set in his destructive hatred to listen to any ACTs. Unlike Ralsei, Other Ralsei clearly has access to a suite of very powerful destructive magic, and had no compunctions whatever about using it.

I lost. I was then treated to a Game Over screen where, because Other Ralsei had stopped the heroes, the entire world was doomed. (Again, he doesn't care - he got his.) Instead of a still image, the words GAME OVER were displayed underneath moving, constantly updating footage of all the demons shambling across the face of a planet now devoid of any other living creature.

Had. Never before did Isaac think that such a truly minuscule word could cut so deep. Was that what was expected of him? For him to simply walk away from the child he had spent the last fifteen years raising? He had only been a child himself when he decided to stay and raise Violet, even after her mother decided it was too much responsibility and took off. For the last fifteen years, every choice he made in life had taken her into account before all else. His career, his love life, or lack thereof. Violet came before anything and everything so he didn't understand how he was now expected to just turn his back on her like she wasn't the most important person in his life. Listening to Kris, Isaac wanted to scream. He wanted to yell and throw things and tell Kris to go fuck himself before storming off, but he knew that the life he had was over. That regardless of how heartbroken he felt, he couldn't go home. He couldn't walk through that front door and comfort his daughter, because he was dead, and today Violet buried the man she knew as her dad. Death did not care that he was all she had left. It did not care that the realization that he would never speak to or hold his daughter again hurt more than all the losses he had experienced put together.
