I read The Iron Within and it sent me down a rabbit hole and by the God-Emperor I will make you suffer with me
So:
Ultramarines Tetrarch Tauro Nicodemus is at Lesser Damatyne when Krendl shows up with an army of traitors to demand that Dantioch hand over the keys to the Schadenhold.
Nicodemus says that Guilliman sent him to recruit Dantioch to the loyalist cause.
He then stays with the future Silver Skulls loyalist Iron Warriors for the year-long siege of the Schadenhold, and escapes with them on the Benthos.
HOWEVER
Dantioch is on Sotha at the start of Unremembered Empire, and Guilliman clearly knows him and knows he's on Sotha.
By the time Unremembered Empire starts, Ultramar has been cut off from the rest of the Imperium for two years by the Ruinstorm. So Dantioch must have arrived before the start of the Ruinstorm
The Ruinstorm began at the end of the Battle of Calth--it was actually conjured up by a Word Bearers ritual during the climax of that battle.
Guilliman doesn't know about the Heresy until the Battle of Calth.
Which leaves me with two questions:
When did Nicodemus leave Ultramar?
When did Dantioch arrive in Ultramar/on Sotha?
(The answer, of course, is "minor plothole, who cares," but no pedantic nerd worth her salt would accept that as an answer.)
A bit of research revealed that Nicodemus actually appears in Know No Fear; a passing mention names him as one of the fighters on Calth. Presumably he made it to the fleet that evacuated the planet just before the warpstorm grew too bad to navigate. Guilliman must have sent him out into the galaxy (without a retinue?) just before he left for Macragge.
But we're still left with the second question. When the hell did Dantioch make it to Ultramar? There's no way he could have arrived before the Ruinstorm reached full force.
After much thought, I think I've figured it out. The Benthos departs from Lesser Damatyne for Macragge and immediately slams into the Ruinstorm. Caught in the storm, they pick up the Pharos's beacon and use it to get to Macragge. However, Warp Fuckery™ deposits the ship in the system shortly before Guilliman heads to Calth for the grand muster. Nicodemus introduces Dantioch to Guilliman and somehow convinces him to take him in. Guilliman sends Dantioch and his buddies to Sotha and the rest is history.
This does mean that for a short period of time, there are two Nicodemuses running around. Guilliman isn't the type to lose track of a high-ranking officer, so why didn't he notice that he had two copies of the same guy? Simple: the original Nicodemus departed for Calth from Saramanth, not from Macragge. When Future Nicodemus shows up with a handful of battered Iron Warriors, he actually has a ready-made excuse for dropping by Macragge: he wants to introduce Dantioch to Guilliman before heading off for Calth. The Epic Convincing Session ensues, Dantioch leaves for Sotha, and Guilliman leaves for Calth. By the time he makes it there, OG Nicodemus is already planetside, so they don't have a chance to talk until the evacuation. At that point, they have much bigger fish to fry, so the inconsistencies in Nicodemus's location isn't discovered.
Here's the thing: Guilliman would have no reason to even bring up Dantioch to OG Nicodemus at Calth. As far as he knows, Dantioch is already safe and sound on Sotha, and Nicodemus played a direct role in the dude's arrival. So Guilliman must have sent Nicodemus out to do Other Stuff. This means that at some point Nicodemus decided to recruit Dantioch on his own, probably after he finished doing the Other Stuff. Nicodemus was lying through his teeth when he told Dantioch that Guilliman sent him. Dude was flying by the seat of his pants the whole time, and he actually pulled it off.

I have a fanfic Space Marine chapter that I'm considering posting here. It's an Imperial Fist successor chapter.
I would make a fanfic Iron Warrior warband but tbh it would just be the warband that is in the novel I'm writing and under the control of Idriss Krendl (my Krendl at any rate).
Should I post my Regents of Rogal here? I should probably fill out that color template thing if I do.

Together (Family!Verse)
Summary: Olivia, Alex, and Noah make dinner. (Can be read as stand-alone)
Word Count: 1235
Warnings: none
It’s been a good day. Those don’t come often enough anymore, when both Olivia and Alex still have energy come the end of the night, and neither of them have to work, and Noah happily shows them a drawing he made at school. Five happy people. Noah in the middle, two women with brown and blonde hair to his left, and two men with brown hair to his right. Nick and Sonny are family too. When Olivia puts it on the fridge with a bright red magnet, she pauses to take a picture to send them- later, she’ll photocopy it at work so they can have it on their fridge as well.
Tonight is for them to be a family, something Alex murmurs against Olivia’s neck. It’s so rare that they get to do something like this, so they definitely won’t waste the opportunity to cook together, especially Alex’s mother’s recipe. Light pours through the lampshade to highlight the exhaustion on her face, the lines at the corners of her eyes and mouth, her chapped lips. She likely wants to collapse into bed, but there’s enough left for her to fill out the rest of the evening with love.
“Noah, come help me knead the dough,” Olivia calls, getting him to run away from his blocks and hop up on the step stool Alex dragged from next to the bathroom sink. He loves this. It’ll need to rise for a good hour or so before they can bake it, but there’s nothing better than warm bread- especially Baba’s. Even though Alex’s mother passed away when Noah was three, he loved her, and he especially loves her recipes and traditions. When Alex makes Kulich in the spring, it’s all Noah will talk about for weeks. This connection to the past, these roots, mean the world to him just as much as his mothers.
She has to remind him to cover his hands in flour first, which earns a powdery cloud covering her face and a bright laugh from Alex, who has her attention on peeling an apple to go into the Krendl filling. It’s not the center of the dish, but it’s a favorite of his, especially because of how much he loves punching it despite being told he should be more gentle.
“We’re making two, right?” Alex asks. “So we can bring one to Nick and Sonny?”
“Always.”
Noah starts to get a little less aggressive with the dough because his arms get tired. Five year olds have boundless energy, but only for the most fun of activities or in times of acute boredom. He can’t do this forever, even though he says it feels like he does. So when his little muscles start to ache, he hops off his stool and throws open the fridge.
“Do we get to cook tonight?”
The easy smile on Olivia’s face tightens slightly. Most children love to eat out, but Noah doesn’t get as many home cooked meals as he should. It shows in how much he whines over the pizza man’s face in the doorway, and how he jumps up and down excitedly at the chance to help Sonny make dinner on their weekly visits. He’s a happy kid. His life hasn’t gotten to be normal. It’s all hospital visits and social workers and hours with a babysitter other than Nick, who recently picked up a job as a PI researcher. As an ex-cop with a bum knee and an arrest for beating a man on the street, it was hard for him to find work, but they couldn’t live off his penchant and Sonny’s detective salary alone.
“Yes, we are. Can you do Mommy a favor and get the chicken off the bottom shelf?”
He scrabbles at it for a moment before yanking it out and letting it plop onto the counter a little too close to the bread, close enough that Olivia nudges it aside with her elbow. They’ll start on it in just a minute, once she rolls up the dough and puts it in the bowl to rise. By the time it’s ready for the oven, dinner will be ready, and they’ll all get a warm desert. For a moment, at least, they’ll be the family they’re supposed to be.
Alex dumps all the filling ingredients into a saucepan together, covers it with saran wrap, and sets it aside for until the bread starts to rise so they can focus on the rest of dinner. She dances in the kitchen, plucking spices from their homes in the cabinet and getting the olive oil down from the top shelf. Olivia should be getting out the vegetables and the stock from the fridge, but she finds herself just watching. Golden hair sways in its ponytail as a soft sweater rides up soft hips that have put on some padding over the last couple years, but are still Olivia’s favorite place to put her hands and lips and praises whenever she has the opportunity. Age does not steal beauty as magazines like to imply. No. It enhances it.
When Alex turns and catches her staring, she laughs. “You’re so gay.”
“You are too.”
“Not as gay as you are.”
“You cried at our wedding.”
“You proposed.”
“You said ‘I love you’ first.”
“You-”
“Ohhhh my gooooosh,” Noah whines, throwing his head back dramatically. “You’re both so gross.”
“And you love it,” Olivia teases in answer.
He sticks his tongue out, but puts it back before he can be reprimanded. Smart kid, just like Alex, who has a penchant for letting him get away with anything and everything. They’re partners in crime, those two. Noah has the ideas. Alex helps execute them. So many times, Olivia has come home on a late night to see them both halfway through pints of corner store ice cream, or with a glass of wine and a few bottles of nail polish ready to pamper her. Their shenanigans aren’t always bad. Just interesting, and a reminder of the bond between the three of them that’s stronger than people like Sheila Porter
Olivia finally manages to get to the vegetables and herbs and starts cutting them into small enough pieces to sautée, get some flavor before they get around to baking the chicken. It’s slower than pan-frying, but Olivia feels like the flavor gets in better, and it’s a lot less hands-on than standing over an oiled pan and waiting for it to turn white around the crisp seasoning.
And Noah occupies himself staring through the cling wrap covering the dough, so he can watch it rise. It makes it go faster, he always says, drumming chubby fingers against the sides of the bowl. More likely than not, he’s waiting for the opportunity to steal a piece and spend ten minutes playing with it before cramming sticky raw dough into his mouth.
“If you can’t wait until dinner, there’s applesauce in the fridge,” Olivia says, because it’s easier to preemptively redirect his focus. “It’s cinnamon.”
His face lights up. In the blink of an eye, he’s got his stool in front of the fridge to locate  the little squishy packet, and then he’s presenting it to her so she’ll pop open the cap. Alex laughs again, and the world is safe and theirs. This evening belongs to them. They’re happy, this time, in a way that cannot be stolen under any circumstances.

I mean, for this specific story the reason the IW are thinking of working with the T'au at all is because Failed Warsmith Idress Krendl was betrayed by one of his more respected commanders who took half of Idress' forces and is now in possession of an extremely powerful Chaos artifact.
The T'au are interested in the planet the artifact was located on and popped up out of nowhere. Right now Krendl is trying hard to not give into his rage of having to play diplomat with these strange Xenos. The deal is pretty straightforwards: the T'au assist in getting the artifact, Krendl will leave the system with it, leaving the planet for the T'au.
What frustrated me is...without giving too much away. The story is going to end with IW backstabbing via obliterator virus, insane levels of corruption & power to a particular Fireblade Cadre, and an Ethereal being so shook by the whole experience it will prime them to accept the T'au'va. Not "The Greater Good" but the warp entity.
I want to get to that point, but I've yet to launch the T'au + IW assault on the Traitor IW (weird thing to say) fortifications yet. Which feels like the start of the juicy parts.
Been on and off writing a 40K fanfic novel starring T'au, Iron Warriors, and Imperium (eventually). Without giving away too much T'au and Iron Warriors are working together.
Biggest problem is the Iron Warriors seeming too nice, the T'au not seeming Naive enough which I think is a result of the IW seeming too nice, and being stuck in all the talky bits that set everything up as to why the IW would ever work with anyone at all.

Scholarly Article - Impact of...  COVID-19...on Older Adults’ Social and Mental Well-Being
“Authors: Anne C. Krendl, PhD1, and Brea L. Perry, PhD.
Publication Information:
Anne C. Krendl, PhD, Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, Indiana University, 1101 E. 10th St.,Bloomington, IN 47405.

Within this article, authors discuss their hypotheses and findings in relation to a study they had conducted. The study conducted focused on how the pandemic had affected the mental health of the elderly in nursing homes. Throughout the article, they explain the means by which they had conducted this study. They also discuss and analyze their findings in full detail.
The article begins by offering a brief introduction into the issue and what the study intends to do. The authors explain that the pandemic has negatively affected the mental and physical health of the elderly. As a result of loneliness, and lack of social interaction, the elderly are more likely to develop depression.
To conduct this study, the authors employed interviews and mental health evaluations as a means of gauging how the elderly were being affected by the pandemic and subsequent isolation. As a result, the authors placed an emphasis on social engagement related questions.
Moving forward, the authors had hypothesized three indicators of higher levels of depression in the elderly. They are as follows: Isolation, “Reduced Social Engagement” and “Relationship Strength” (Krendl & Perry e55). Their findings found all three of their hypothesis to be true.
Isolation, a lack of social engagement, and the strength of the elders relationship to their family and caretakers were all factors in higher levels of depression. In elders who experienced more loneliness and lacked strong relationships with their family and caretakers, higher levels of depression were more likely to be found.
By socially engaging elders, however, and removing them from isolation, these high levels of depression were reduced significantly. Therefore, it is important that elders are engaged and removed from isolation.
In terms of ethos, Krendl received her B.A. at Harvard University and her Ph.D. at Dartmouth College. She is now a professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences, who uses her research as a means of understanding and exploring social interaction in conjunction with person perception.
Perry herself received her MA in Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington and her Ph.D. in Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington. She is now a professor of Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington, and she uses her research to “investigate the interrelated roles of social networks, biomarkers, social psychology, and social inequality in health and illness, with a particular focus on mental illness and substance use disorders” (Indiana University Bloomington).
In terms of pathos, the article is very sad and heartbreaking, despite the tone and vocabulary being both professional and technical. As someone who has a grandmother who experienced the same feelings of loneliness and depression, the article really hit close to home for me. It makes me incredibly sad knowing there’s only so much that I can do. However, the article also did make me hopeful. As social interaction - while better if physical - can be done over the phone or in letters. Therefore, there is something I, and anyone, can do. By participating with Love For Our Elders, for example, we can make quite a difference in the lives of the elderly.
As for logos, the argument is clear, forward, and logical. There is no reason tot deny that the elderly are being heavily affected by the pandemic. And that they are experiencing high levels of loneliness and depression as a result of it. Otherwise, organizations like Love For Our Elders wouldn’t exist. Therefore, it’s important that we listen and do our part. Despite the target audience seeming to be nurses, hospice workers, and nursing home workers, I believe everyone should read this article - let it inspire them and motivate them to participate however possible.

A flick of the hand, a twitch of the lips
A flash of magenta hair
Sway to the hips, hope for a tryst
A deal, a scam, a scandal
Come to me if you seek to feel,
To heal, to revive, to be better
Hands search with magic and care,
Hands make you come alive
Necromancy ain't just for dead bones, baby
It's for the living ones, too
- an absolutely appalling poem about my newest DnD character, a tiefling cleric who offers both healing and...other services...for coin

Clarice Episode 7 Review: Ugly Truth
https://ift.tt/3fRVja8
This Clarice review contains spoilers.
Clarice Episode 7
Clarice, episode 7, “Ugly Truth,” is a monster-of-the-week exploration of a cold case procedural. It also moves the overall arc along as true ugliness is found within. “Some monster killed two little kids,” Ardelia Mapp (Devyn Tyler) says. The episode opens with a hideous image, foreshadowed and cinematically darkened by the growing buzz of a swarm of flies.
The opening shot is quite masterful. It takes a while for the idea to register that flies are drawn to dead things until just a moment before we see what died. The flies should be given credit, as they will continue to recur as both a character and mood-setter over the course of the early investigation. Clarice routinely plays with forced perspective and stalled chronology to move the inner story. The camera-work goes into overtime this episode as clues, details and emotional states are captured through the shifting flow of time. The film may slow down as a character passes a child’s toy, or the first glimpse of a covered corpse. The effect works, but gets pushed to the edge of user-use before they finally cut back on it.
The body of Cody Phelps, a 13-year-old boy who went missing 10 months earlier in Alexandria, Va., is found stuffed lovingly behind a wall of a suburban home, we learn from TV news. It’s a serious case, and Agent Clark (Nick Sandow) lets us know this by moving his stash of “Spank” magazines to a lower drawer. This doesn’t turn out to be what it seems, but is equally indicative of his priorities.
When told Clarice (Rebecca Breeds) has been thrown back into field duty when she should be on psychiatric leave, Clark asks Deputy Assistant Attorney General Paul Krendler (Michael Cudlitz) to “define okay,” a perennially effective shortcut to both a reassessment and a punchline. Clark winds up redefining his own adequacy as he appears to crumble under the pressures of temporary command.
The slide into Captain Queeg of The Caine Mutiny territory begins when the body of the dead boy is uncovered in the wall, and continues throughout the investigation until Agent Esquivel (Lucca De Oliveira) wants to punch him out. That is until we find out exactly why the agent is so hung up on missing kids’ cases. Placing the victim in a fetal position is a very interesting detail, because Clarice’s interpretation plays into Clark’s true dilemma. Did every agent on this series become a federal cop because of some trauma-induced vendetta? That is becoming a very tired cop show cliché.
The early part of the episode also fills in some of the spaces on the ongoing “River Murders” and the conspiracy behind it. In the last episode, under the hypnotic guidance of Dr. Li (Grace Lynn Kung), Clarice was able to see the face of the man who attacked her while she was being held captive. But she has no idea who face belongs to. In “Ugly Truth,” that man’s face is on the cover of a magazine on Krendler’s desk. What are the odds? Clarice is filled with many such coincidences which ring too loud even when they can be justified.
It is understandable how, as the episode plays out, the lawyer worked his way into Krendler’s life. It makes sense Clarice would recognize him, but putting him on the magazine cover is so forced a perspective even Krendler is justified thinking Agent Starling is grasping at psychological straws. It makes sense to her that the magazine cover confirms the investigation is being taken seriously. It makes equal sense how Krendler could see the agent as picking up on the first vaguely familiar face she sees.

How Clarice Continues Agent Starling’s Story
By Gabriel Bergmoser
Ultimately, we get to see Krendle steamroll Clarice, and effectively the entire squad, in such a blatant play outside bureau politics even veteran agent Clark is caught off guard. Agent Shaan Tripathi (Kal Penn), who took a smoking gun photograph which gets silenced, runs his mouth in place like his tongue is on a stair-master. The whole ViCAP team suffers from the larger paranoia which the FBI apparently fosters.
For all their talk about “the team,” Ardelia can’t even do a little victory dance over her first professional recognition without having to pirouette away from the spotlight which would be thrown on her by joining the budding coalition of Black agents. There are just a few too many fires to put out at the same time. The main arc is already being stretched to a breaking point. Each individual case also comes with extra twists.
In the cold case investigation, DNA ties the crime to the murder of a Black child who was murdered a decade earlier. The uncle of the child believes the police killed his nephew. Of course, the first reaction of the federal cops is to repeat the pattern and blame the uncle, but the trail takes a very twisted turn before it ends with a very expected confrontation. The arc portion of the episode also spins in a different course at the very close. We knew it was coming, but it is still an extreme veer.
“Ugly Truth” moves at a good pace, even with all the time-stop analysis, and muddies the water of the conspiracy investigation with some interesting dirt. But there is nothing really threatening in the threat. It feels forced and empty, just one more loose end getting tangled in the tapestry.
