The podcast starts like any other. Hamzah and Martin sit in the middle of the couch, with Mandy and you on either side of them. It’s the first episode that has you featured in it, and Hamzah is quick to settle any nerves you have with a soft smile and a squeeze of your shoulder. “So, yeah guys. There’s another member in our polycule now, this is Hamzah’s contribution.” Martin points towards you. Hamzah shakes his head, “Alright, bro…”. “Does that mean I get a share of the YouTube channel? Mandy, have they ever given you money?” Mandy clicks her tongue and continues in her deadpan voice, “Um, no. Basically they keep me in their dungeon until they need more views. I’d run away if I were you, honestly.” You pretend to look nervously between Hamzah and Martin, “Honestly I didn’t wanna say it but the basement Hamzah keeps me in is super gross.” “I don’t like this bit. Viewers, please be advised I do not keep my girlfriend in a basement for views. I don’t know about Martin, though.” “Dang it, first episode and they’re already making us look like idiots, Mandy. The episode is you, Hamzah, and Martin. Hamzah is sat obviously much closer to you (which the comments are quick to mention, laughing at the lack of personal space he gives you.) “Yeah, a lot of the Slushies have been asking me if I’m a kpop stan. My ult bias-” Hamzah throws his hands into the air dramatically as he sees you pull a small photocard out of your wallet. A familiar face makes him groan loudly, “Oh, don’t even get me started on this fool! I am sick and tired of seeing him everywhere!” You proudly show off the photocard to the camera despite Hamzah’s childish complaints. Martin leans over to take a look at the photo in your hands, “Bro, what’s the big deal? Is this like challenging your alphaness?” You laugh loudly and Hamzah smiles, betraying the annoyed facade he’s putting on, “No! He just haunts me. She knows when his birthday is and shit and what he ate for breakfast that day, like bro,” he turns to you, pointing at you accusingly, “You don’t ask what I eat for breakfast.” Martin grabs his shoulder, as if to calm him down, “Bro. You know what this means. You have to defend your woman.” Hamzah turns to Martin and before you can question them, they begin singing together and waving their arms in the air, “Shoot dat boy in da head, shoot dat boy in da head!” The episode ends with you deadpanning at the camera as they chant beside you.

Martin and Hamzah had listened to their viewers, your first feature on the channel being in a Resident Evil gameplay. The comments are filled with ‘i slushed everywhere when i saw yn in the thumbnail’ and ‘hamzah holding onto yn everytime there’s a jumpscare boyy aren’t u supposed to b da man?’ You sit between the two men who both inadvertently curl into you as the creepy aura permeates outside the game as well. Martin dramatically holds onto his head as you shoot bullets into the grossly looking zombies on the screen, “Oh, god they’re gonna eat us out! Quick, grab more ammo!” “Ok, I don’t think they’re gonna do all that-” They both jump as a loud, sharp groan comes from the speaker. Hamzah in particular lets out his signature high-pitched scream. Martin seems to break character and laughs aloud as Hamzah shakes his head in embarrassment, turning away from the camera so it won’t catch the bright blush on his cheeks when you coo at him. “Aww, did you pee yourself?” Martin tries to speak through laughter, “I think you did, dude there’s a wet spot-” Hamzah quickly denies it, “Ok, stop lying to all the slushies, bro, I did not pee myself. I’m sick of this, turn off this trash ass game-” “It’s ok, babe. I’ll protect you, I’m your Leon.” Martin waves a blushing Hamzah over, “Yeah, come on you big baby. It’s not even that scary-wait don’t go in there-“

vacation

Hamzah had convinced you to create your own channel, due to the growing comments begging him to convince you to do so. You hadn’t expected much, but it’d at least be a nice way to share sweet memories between the two of you. The vlog starts with you sat in front of your vanity, as you complete your routine. You talk animatedly about the vacation you’re on with your boyfriend, mentioning the beautiful sights you’ve seen and the delicious food you’ve had so far. You don’t notice but Hamzah walks into the room, quietly sneaking into view when he notices you’re filming. He’s too sweet to scare you on purpose, so he only places the bag of food in front of you and waves towards the camera, “Hiii, it’s me, Hamzah. Remember me?” You push him out of frame, “Ew, get your big head out of here!” The bottom half of his body remains in frame as you look up at him from the seat, “What?! This is how youtubers act behind the camera guys, leave hate comments below, please.” He leans down to be to your level, staring longingly as you get ready. He imagines this is how it feels to watch art being made. You don’t notice his blatant staring, “Tell them how nice it is here.” He’s pulled out of his thoughts with your voice, “Yeah, it’s pretty sweet. Think we’ll bring our kids here cause kids like beaches. Right?” You both seem to forget the camera is even there as you turn to him, “We should take them to Legoland.” He lets out a disbelieving laugh, “Really? That’s the best you got?” You give him a side eye that makes him laugh harder, “Ok, get out, this is my video.” Hamzah only waves at the camera before giving you a gentle kiss on top of your head and leaving. It’s barely in frame, but it’s enough to show the burning warmth he holds for you.

A/N: Omg how I ran FAST just to start writing this— and you are so right, taph needs more content (coming from a taph main, me lol), and i am here to feed more taph content, feel free to send me more taph requests ngl.

• Being with him, whether it’s together as friends or partners, no matter what kind of relationship you have with him he’ll always find ways to prank you using his tools.

• He’s a cocky little shit ngl, everytime he pranks you or teases you, you can clearly see under his hoodie that little, michevious smirk and continues to go on until you stop him, I also think he would enjoy carrying you skeins sometimes for fun, like bridle style or piggy back and run while doing so, and maybe pretend to fall just to startle you.

• For some random reason (this may be ooc idk) but he LOVES to hold you close and put his cloak around the both of you, I don’t know exactly the reason why he does it but I feel like it’s because he enjoys the feeling of having someone close be so close to him, and he loves to lay his head down on your shoulder and fall asleep if you both are sitting on the couch or laying on the bed together.

• I feel like the hoodie he wears was worn way to many times now, and he doesn’t wash it (and I’m guessing he can’t because of the situation he’s in) so I feel like, if you can sew, you can make him new hoodies in different colors and styles to see how they look on him, and he wouldn’t mind you putting on a few accessories on him, but DO NOT put any makeup or skin care products on his face, he doesn’t like the feeling of it (I would just force him if it’s necessary ngl).

• He would purposely use you as bait to the killers so they can fall into his traps, and then save you after, he likes saving you, especially if you lecture him afterwards lol he doesn’t give any craps whatsoever. And just to add on but, without you knowing he stalks you when he’s not around you, and he makes sure not to get caught by you, even if your friends he would definitely have this little crush on you, and even after your dating he still does this, but he just needs to make sure your being protected by him at all costs! Even if he’s not around…

• I also feel like he enjoys dancing to music, it can be hiphop, slow dancing, kpop, and he’ll DO IT. He would be a super talented dancer, and loves doing little dances whenever he traps one of the killers with his shenanigans. (He stans girl groups, tell me I’m wrong).

Humming, your eyes glaze over the Phoning chat. You and Danielle sat comfortably within your practice room, the younger girl joining shortly after seeing you had started a livestream. There was no particular reason for this stream, you simply felt like entertaining your fans for the day. Throughout the livestream, you and Danielle simply talked, being some of the most social and extroverted members of Newjeans, it wasn’t hard for you two to popcorn different topics from one another.

“Did you ever read Warriors?”

“What, that book series about the emo cats?”

“They’re not emo– well…. Actually…”

Both you and Danielle burst into a fit of giggles as you tried to explain the lore of the Warrior Cats series, which then went into you making a powerpoint on why your company should allow you to have a cat in the dorms, which then went into a conversation about how you guys wanted to decorate your ideal home…

When you and Danielle were put into a room together, it almost seemed like you two fueled each other's energy in a never ending cycle. Still, as your laughter dies down, the pair of you decide to just chill, even for a moment. Your attention gets drawn back to the comments whilst Danielle aimlessly scrolled on her phone for a bit.

“y/n, who are your favorite kpop artists??” You read out loud.

Your eyes light up at this question. Before becoming a trainee, you were a die hard fan of many groups back when you were younger. Honestly.. You were a bit of a chronically online kid, despite your social tendencies. Back in the day, you ran a kpop stan twitter, and are well versed in the new vocabulary of online meme culture… as embarrassing as it was to admit the more you thought about it. 

After reading the comment, the mischievous and playful glint in your eye was impossible to ignore, and Dani seemed to pick up on the shift in energy. Shooting you a suspicious glance, you decide to speak up.

“Ah there are so many groups I love… But.. I’d have to say Red Velvet and LOONA...!”

It was an innocent enough answer at a glance, but to some, the underlying message behind it was glaringly obvious.

Almost immediately after speaking, in the most obvious and not discreet fashion, you freeze, arching a brow making a curious looking expression at the camera as you pucker your lips. It was undeniable that you were referencing an all too familiar meme within the LGBTQ community.

Honestly, you were never one to shy away from your sexuality. You were lucky enough to know who you were from a young age. (All of your odd childhood crushes practically spoke for themselves. Rain from the movie Spirit, for example. The horse.) 

It wasn’t long before the girls caught onto you, and they have been nothing but supportive since. Oftentimes they would tease you over your clinginess with your other members, or how you’d very publicly fawn over other female idols, while nearly all of the light drained from your eyes when approached by a man. 

In hindsight, it was a surprise that they didn’t catch on sooner. The way you acted so stiff around male idols when forced to do Tiktoks with them, or how you never entertained their advances. However, it seemed like Some fans did seem to notice faster than your own members, and deemed you “Irene's daughter” as a result— a title in which you wear with pride, might you add! 

That wasn't to say you didn't have your own hardships and struggles with your sexuality at the same time, though. Of course, being a part of one of the biggest kpop groups of your generation, you couldn’t express your sexuality publically. Not yet. It was too risky. A large chunk of your fan base consisted of straight men anyways… Potential backlash would be detrimental. You didn’t want to drag the others down with you. Not when you guys have so much ahead together.

So you keep your head low, put on your best smile, and focus on your members.

….Until moments like these, of course.

Eyes practically boggling out of her head, Danielle bursts into laughter, shoving your shoulder with one hand while she covers her face with her sweater sleeve.

“Unnie…!” she scream-whispers, baffled by your words. Of course she knew what you were hinting at, she didn’t live under a rock her whole life.

Seeing Danielles reaction only seems to egg you on though. What? You weren’t saying anything explicitly queer. Only the people that mattered would know. Worst case scenario, you’d be in some odd rumor or speculation that had no real evidence to back you up. Maybe you’d be seen as an ally. Humming once again, you pretend to think.

“Though if you want to know about male artists….” You take a significantly longer time to answer this as Danielle is left a giggling mess next to you. She seemed almost a little distressed through the laughter, but she trusted you.

“I would probably say I like EXO and Shinee the most.”

Once again, you make that damn face, and Danielle throws her head back in hysterical laughter. She grabs your shoulder and shakes you around, whispering quiet scoldings into your ear as you snicker, feigning an innocent look as the chat practically blows up.

Unsurprisingly, clips of your shared live with Danielle went viral. Many stan accounts on twitter began to speculate that you were queer, whilst others fully embraced it. Your favorite posts were the edits of you with the rainbow flag followed up by a question mark. It was all too good.

Honestly, you didn’t even think it was a big deal. You didn’t pay much attention to other male groups– you never did, really, but when you looked at the new incoming generation of boy group members… They practically had the whole pride parade following them. 

There were a few minor articles about you here and there, but you were mostly off the hook.

Danielle lay sprawled across your back whilst you lay on her bed, scrolling through Twitter aimlessly as she laughs at the comments on your recent instagram post.

“It seems that your fangirls can't get enough of you, lovergirl,” she teases lightheartedly as you wiggle beneath her weight, giggling.

Maybe one day you’ll share the news to your fans, and maybe one day they won’t even be surprised. But you’re glad to have what you have now. Just you, your girls, and your ever growing folder of queer y/n memes off of Twitter.

Hyein was in the middle of a solo livestream within her bedroom, lying comfortably in her bed as she showcased various articles of clothing she had bought with Hanni the day prior.

The livestream was going well, peaceful as Hyein makes her way through several t shirts, sweaters, pants, and skirts of all colors and styles.

Right when Hyein was about to reveal her favorite article of clothing from the haul, loud, almost desperate banging rings throughout the room. An almost pathetic sounding yelp of surprise erupts from the girl before she curiously glances at the livestream. 

Leaning forward, she whispers to the camera, “I think… I think there's a creep trying to break in…” 

Suddenly, the door bursts open, with a very flustered and irritated y/n tumbling in shortly after. iPad in hand, you collapse into the bed next to Hyein

“Guys, guy, GUYS. The theme was scene!!! What the hell is this?! Look at THIS versus MY outfit!” You exclaim almost a little too loudly as you shove the ipad in front of the camera. Failing to focus on your screen properly, the viewers simply saw a bright white square as you groaned.

Baffled and still a bit in shock, Hyein speaks up, “Unnie, it's really not that serio–”

“This is bullsh–” You cut yourself off as Hyein snorts loudly at your near slip up. Clearing your throat, you grip your ipad a little tighter than needed, trying to calm down.

“This is unfair. And you know what's worse? Its probably some nine year old with their friends voting for them behind the screen!” You whine out dramatically. With how upset you were getting, it wouldn't be surprising if this genuinely was the one determining factor that would either make or break your night.

Hyein couldn't bite back the amused laugh at your seriousness. 

You took your games pretty seriously. Even if it was roblox. There was something familiar and comforting about it all, really. Lighthearted games like this  played a major part in your childhood— which was, of course, abruptly cut short once you became a trainee at age 14. Now that you were an adult with a job as an idol, you could buy your own robux, buy your own gamepasses and items… and most importantly, stomp on little kids in-game. You were here first, after all.

“Unnie, aren't you like, 21 years old? Don't you think you’re a little too old to—“

“And aren't you like— what, 12?!” You shoot back without even missing a beat.

A brief, yet suffocating silence passes as the both of you stare at each other, wide eyed. Never in your years of knowing the younger girl have you ever been so.. sassy to her. You were the oldest, after all. It was your job to take care of her.

Almost instantly, you drop your ipad and tackle the younger girl in a hug, crying out, “BABY HYEIN!!! IM SORRY…!!!”

Hyein on the other hand, was not as reciprocal to your attempts at apologizing. Upon being tackled, half of the air in her lungs practically got knocked out of her, and she finds herself tumbling backwards into the blankets below. Instead of accepting your obviously very real and very distressed apology, she began struggling to wriggle out of your grasp as she yelled out, “NO! LET ME GO UNNIE!! LET ME GOOO!!!”

Though the youngest towered over you by over half a foot, your grip on her was borderline deadly. Squeezing your arms tightly around her neck in an attempt at being soothing and sweet (you werent) you scream at yourself, rocking her back and forth. 

“I'm so STUPID im SORRY IM SORRY IM SORRY I JUST WANTED YOU TO PLAY WITH ME.”

Incoherent screams and movement was seen from the livestream for about 5 minutes before Hyein tapped your arm, giving in.

“Fine, fine..! I forgive you unnie, just let me go…!”

The moments following Hyein’s acceptance of her fate seemed to actually go by pretty smoothly compared to the chaos that had just ensued a few minutes prior.

Laying in bed together, the two of you played dress to impress while on the live, occasionally interacting with the viewers, but mostly focusing on winning the game. A comfortable silence passes, the only sound being nails against iPad screens.

The pair of you would proudly showcase your creations to the camera, and shared mutual frustration when neither of you would even place despite the immense efforts you put into your outfits.

“I swear to god Hyein, I’m gonna buy both of us VIP and we’re gonna leave these girls in the dust…”

As you prepare to go up for your final round of the night, Hyein suddenly perks up.

“Oh look, unnie! This outfit is actually pretty good…”

“Huh? Oh!! You're right! This is super pretty…”

hey girlie!! i’ve been loving everything you’ve been releasing. across stardust, the one shots, everything!! i’m barely keeping up cuz of uni so i’m silently supporting.

something bothered me the other day and it made me fall out of delululand immediately and hard. it made me question the true reason as to why i like yuyu.

let me explain.

i like each and every one of the boys and i stan ateez down. i’ve seen them 4 times and i’d throw my money at them again in a heartbeat. the main reason is because of their uniqueness, high energy and talented driven nature.

but like i said, i need to like each and every one of them individually too. one of yuyu’s lives, recently, gave me a reality check. one that i couldn’t bypass because i don’t have a backbone as to why i like yuyu beyond the superficial person he’s trained to be.

to summarise, i believe he was being hypocritical due to jealousy. it’s normal, it’s human. yet, i cannot see that. why?

if it was someone else, say hwa or sannie, i’d be able to reason since my understanding from these intense parasocial relationships makes me see a clear journey, struggle or a compelling sense of self that sets them apart from just performers.

okay golden retriever personality, okay outstanding dancer, okay spider-man obsession, okay perfect video gamer but what else? i need an emotional click that makes me humanise and empathise beyond your standard idol facade. i need a unique plus.

that’s the issue. i can sympathise to a degree but cannot empathise because i don’t have anything to work with and say “oh i can personally relate because it was abc for me too”.

so, i’m putting this question on an ask for other atiny who might struggle with the same dilemma. or, better even, help me understand our precious yuyu on a deeper level (if you’re as delulu as me haha).

some people say that your bias is either someone you would like to be or someone you would like to be with. ateez checks both of those on an individual level but yuyu only checks one.

hi! if you want an essay on why to love yunho, by god have you come to the right person. thank you for saying such kind things about my fic as well, i really appreciate that!

i will say one thing that i want to just say generally is that….. you don’t HAVE to love everyone in a kpop group to still like the group. i know everyone freaks out and makes you feel like a bad fan if you’re not ALL in on ALL members, but a lot of people’s brains just don’t work that way and I don’t think it’s “bad” to prefer some members over others or vibe more with some. so while yunho is one of my favorite people on the planet, he might not be yours and that’s okay.

that being said…. i do think you’re missing a lot of who yunho is, which is something i think a lot of fans have done historically when it comes to him. i think something i take small issue with in what you said, and what i hope to dispel with my answer, is this idea of a “compelling sense of self” setting him apart from just being a performer. i would say that if it’s clearer to you what san and seonghwa’s sense of self is as compared to yunho, that’s probably because you enjoy them (and maybe even bias them?) and so it’s easier to see. perhaps their personality types are more your type of person, but i think it’s pretty clear who yunho is if you listen to him and those around him.

i would also say, the idea of “the standard idol facade” and the idea of “unique plus” is a little reductive. i know what you mean, but i would say if you perceive some members as more ‘genuine’ and having ‘less’ of a persona, it’s far more likely that you just prefer that persona or like that persona more than another’s. the parts of yunho that you mentioned are cute things that people say about yunho, but they are also essential parts of him that the fandom use as markers about him, and it’s up to fans to look deeper if they choose to to see more. i would not call any of the things you mentioned a part of his idol persona in a way that isn’t ‘genuine’ or true to himself as a person and looking for a quality that clicks with you that makes him “less idol-y” says more about what qualities you personally like or read as ‘real’ than what qualities are ‘real’.

so before i get into a novel about why i love this man, let me address those specific qualities because they are things that i love about him and would have been on the list anyways, but they are also qualities that i don’t at all find shallow or lacking or more “idol”, even though they don’t click for you -

golden retriever personality - this is a cute thing to say but ultimately what you can see in yunho and why people say this is because he is an actively positive and kind person. the kind of person to approach difficulty with encouragement instead of negativity. he doesn’t hide his happiness or excitement for fear of looking foolish or to try and look cooler, and does that make him goofy sometimes? yeah, but that’s one reason why we love him and why he feels safe for many of us. members have also said yunho is the member who is the most similar on and off screen, and that includes his happy go-lucky golden retriever self.

outstanding dancer - he is, but it’s more than that. in ateez he takes on the leadership role of the choreography lead. he is gifted when it comes to dancing, but it’s not without a passion for it or hard work. in school yunho literally snuck out and practiced in private to be able to get accepted to his performing arts high school, he was driven despite his parents at the time not supporting the dream. when he passed the audition and proved to them he was good, they then supported him. if you listen to him share why he loves what he loves, you can see that passion and drive. you can also see it in the responsibility he takes on to lead everyone in the choreography, especially when you watch logbooks and behinds.

spider-man obsession - eh, the man can have a hyper fixation just like us. also it’s an easy way for fans to transcend the language barrier / cultural barrier and so i think it’s just become a bit ubiquitous since fandoms just cling onto things and keep them going. i think it’s cute, but my type is hot nerd, so that might just be me.

perfect video gamer - same thing as above….. it’s just his hobby, one he really genuinely likes. it’s kind of funny how often he used to NOT talk about it because he thought people wouldn’t care or it wasn’t that accessible, but as he’s gotten more comfortable sharing more of himself, video games are apart of that and now he gets excited to tell atiny stuff about it / you can watch him light up in fancalls when people talk to him about gaming. again, my type is hot nerd / gamer guys, so for me i read this as genuine and accessible, but maybe that’s not your type.

outside of the things you called out, here are some things that i love about yunho, some things about him, the person and not the “idol persona” you mention. i think with yunho, as he is one of the quieter members you have to want to know about him, you have to pay attention, you have to look.

yunho is always, always watching and caring for those around him. hongjoong mentioned he is the first member to pick up on when someone is not okay, and you can see that in content or how he interacts with his members or atiny, but i can imagine this is tenfold behind closed doors. during mingi’s hiatus he was in touch with him daily, and he has talked in the past about how he wished he had noticed sooner that mingi was having a hard time. if you watch him, you can see him watching others. he makes sure to fold people into conversation who are being skipped over, he physically goes to those who are standing apart, and you can see him actively listening and engaging when people are talking, especially about serious topics. you can see that in any live that’s him and another member, any episode of idol radio, it’s all there if you watch the way he watches others.

he has such a tender heart. yunho is THE crier in ateez, and that isn’t part of any persona, that’s him. there’s tons of clips, but some of the ones that always hit me right in the chest are him crying when his grandfather died and never was able to see him on stage, his last day at idol radio, him getting choked up on stage during fan projects, etc. but the one that always gets me is san explaining in a live that yunho is the softest hearted member in ateez - that he holds in his feelings and sets himself aside to make others happy or give others comfort, to the point that when he finally speaks up he’s nearly in tears. so san says in that live that yunho should always be treated with kindness and kind words in return, and i think that sums him up so well.

on the topic of yunho crying…….. something to call out is the way that ateez members have said he is a huge support system in ateez and a hard worker. i believe it’s break the wall tour, but at the end of one of the seoul shows yunho breaks down into some pretty significant tears and the members embrace him. his hands are shaking, and he’s kind of going through it (i can also say this is a year where yunho didn’t really seem like himself, and to see him break down like this was both surprising and heartbreaking knowing it was a tough time for him). if you watch the whole clip, the members go on to say that they want to thank yunho and give yunho support for all of the hard work he put into the group that year because he was a huge reason they were able to do all of their tough schedules etc.

his love of family. i can’t remember the exact content, but years ago when asked who his most important person was in his life etc., he said his brother and that his brother was a gift to him in his life. he’s close with his parents, his grandparents, his extended family, and his brother and he talks about them so warmly in his lives. when he goes home for holidays his whole extended family comes home so they are all together, and i think that’s just a lovely quality about him.

he’s a gift giver. he’s a busy guy, and it’s certainly easier to not give a gift or remember a birthday, but yunho seems to always go all out. for ateez members, he dressed up as their favorite characters and did a fun little celebration for each of them. he’s often buying people little gifts that he picks up during his travels etc., most recently he got his grandmother a rosary in italy and when she couldn’t’ decide on a color he got all of them so she would be happy. there’s a story from a former staff member too that noted yunho and san as particularly kind members, and san once said that yunho bought all the members and all of the staff coffees with his own money for an early morning schedule once. he even remembered what everyone’s individual orders were and thoughtfully got san steamed milk because at the time he didn’t drink coffee. ultimately, he’s thoughtful and he’s a giver, he just doesn’t boast about it so you’d have to hear it through other people to know that.

he takes his position as the ‘happy pill’ seriously and actually gives it the weight it deserves. what i mean by this is that yunho specifically has talked about it being a responsibility to him that so many people look to him for support and happiness. that’s a weight for anyone to bear, but especially a twenty something person who’s already managing crazy schedules and your own life problems. but he gives advice, he listens, he posts encouragement and is very thoughtful on fromm. but in his cover, he chose the song he chose because it’s a song about helping someone out of depression. his first original song that he wrote the lyrics for is an honest expression of someone getting out of depression. while yunho may always seem “happy”, i think he understands the weight of how people depend on him and he understands that he be supportive through the choices he’s makes in his work.

there’s a million other things i love. he’s funny, he’s smart, he’s thoughtful and open hearted. over the years he has talked openly about his struggles opening up and sharing more of himself for fear that it wouldn’t be what people wanted, but in the past two years he’s done it so more and talked about getting comfortable with sharing. he talks about his achievements, his struggles, his interests….. he’s honestly to me the member with the least crafted persona in ateez especially in the past few years of opening up more and more.

at the end of the day… i’ve been an atiny and a hotteok for four years, and never once have i questioned why i love yunho. in fact, he daily makes me love him more and more, but that deep love and appreciation came after digging deeper with him and really listening.

hopefully this will shed some light on him and why so many of us love him. i don’t know that i did a good enough job explaining because honestly, there’s so many things it’s hard to articulate or pick things to say in a post like this. i encourage anyone else to add their thoughts as well if there are other things about him you love.

at the end of the day though, i can’t tell you how to emphasize with a person. it’s something i believe you have to want to do and extend past things that you like or want to have in common with them and wonder about their experiences that may not have similarities with you or your life. i don’t have a lot in common with hongjoong, but i can see him and understand him, and i love him even though he’s not my ‘favorite member’ or a member i even write all that often.

it’s possible yunho’s just not your type so to speak, and that’s totally fine, but hopefully this will give you some understanding as to why he’s ours.

Summary: Sol deals with the struggles of dating a kpop idol. It goes very well for all parties involved. (Rated Filth again)

She knows that you can't be too clingy especially when the relationship is fresh, you're supposed to be aloof, pleasant and agreeable. That's what all the magazines say that men want, a cool mysterious woman. Someone that always keeps you guessing what they'll do next.

Someone nothing like her.

But how exactly is she supposed to be any of that with a boyfriend like this? How many people on the planet get to date someone who was their idol who then turned out to be an even better person?

There cannot be many living this dream and she cannot ruin this and ultimately drive Sun Jae away. So she tries to be cool and agreeable.

But it's hard when you're with someone that everyone wants. And she can't even blame the starry eyed admirers, she was just like them. Is just like them. Sun Jae is objectively gorgeous, with a face that could be carved from marble and lips as luscious as the softest petals. Not to mention his body is a work of pure art-hard and cut, and she's seen more of it than any rabid fan girl. To put it simply he's unbelievably hot and it's hard not to cling to him like a desperate koala.

Most days she wants to climb him like a tree.

And honestly she's been short most of her life so others towering over her isn't new but nothing to his calibre. She feels infinitely fragile when she's with him.

With her they either looked like an odd couple or siblings according to some strangers but that wasn't the case now, the other woman was tall with a slim statuesque figure.

What were they talking about? Why did they have to look so damn good together? Why was this making her so upset? She wanted to cry.

The ache in her chest is unbearable.

She's outside this door before can she talk herself out of it.

Fist lifted to knock but the door opens before she can touch the rich thick wood and then she's looking at that gorgeous face that she has been missing.

"I already know. I know you have a perfectly good explanation for what happened and I know it isn't your fault again but....you said you were mine. You said everything of yours belonged to me so why?"

He stares at her with a gaping mouth, looking like a fish out of water. If she wasn't so angry she would think about how cute he was. But now is not the time for that.

After a moments pause he finally finds his voice back.

"Why what? I really can explain, it's all Dong Seok's fault he told her that--"

"Why are you letting others touch what's mine? Why does everything think that you are with somebody else? Why do I have to hear everyone talk about how hot my boyfriend is and how much they want to fu......"

She slaps her hand over her mouth before the expletive can escape. But his wide eyes make it clear that he knows exactly what she wanted to say.

His mouth only drops lower. And the silence is deafening until he breaks it with a laugh, one singular booming laugh.

"You're jealous."

"Of course I am! How could I not be?"

She almost stomps her feet in frustration as he smiles at her, infuriating with how gorgeous he looks with a smile on his face.

"Are you happy?" She demands and he grins even wider, shameless in his glee.

"I already told you. I belong to you. If you hate others touching what's yours so much, you touch me instead." He challenges her leaning that exquisite body against the wall and opening his arms as if begging her to come and get him.

She's thought about this too many times, staking her claim. But she doesn't know where to start, this was never supposed to be her reality. Even in her dreams it was too much for her to handle.

He watches her with a penetrating stare before raising his hand and slowly opening one button on his dark green button down. Then another and another and another. Until she can see his abs peeking beneath the open shirt and her tongue feels too heavy in her mouth.

I have been tracking Ossan no pantsu ga nandatte ii janai ka aka Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear aka Oppan in my weekly Japanese QL Corner posts, but this show is so good that I need to give it a full tribute now that the entire thing is available with English subs courtesy of @isaksbestpillow. You can find everything you need to watch here.

This is easily one of my favorite dramas of the year, and it had such a great cast of awesome characters and a story chock full of fantastic themes. This is a show that encourages us not to get desensitized to the world around us, to always challenge ourselves to learn and grow and update how we think about others and the culture we live in, and to prioritize personal happiness over conformity. I love it so much and I want to talk about why, because I hope more of you will, too! @twig-tea wrote a great spoiler free pitch for the show here; this one is not spoiler free in the hopes that those of you who like a bit more info will be further enticed to give it a try. On to the list!

This is a story about a middle-aged cishet man who realizes he has damaged his relationships and sets out to change to do right by his family

There are so few stories of genuinely great fathers in media, and I found something so healing in watching a dad try so hard to do his best. Just the very fact that Makoto cares that he has hurt his family and is willing to put in work to change sets him apart, both in media and in real life.

An unconventional friendship is the heart of the story—and it changes both the characters' lives

Our core relationship begins when Daichi prevents Makoto from falling down a set of neighborhood steps, and the two strike up a surprising friendship when Daichi proves open to listening to Makoto as he struggles to figure out where he went wrong with his family. Daichi is kind and warm-hearted but also firm in his convictions, and his wisdom is exactly what Makoto needs to start updating himself.

Daichi is a gay character who’s allowed to be a whole human—he is not here just to be a magical queer mentor for Makoto

And before you worry that Daichi is a Manic Pixie Dream Gay here only to support Makoto, let me assure you that he also has a story, and it’s more complex than you might initially expect. Daichi has a lot of confidence when it comes to helping other people solve their own problems, but we eventually learn that he's not so assured about his own struggles. Daichi has other relationships that matter aside from his bond with Makoto and his family and he gets his own character arc in which Makoto is able to support him in return. They have a mutual bond that changes both of them for the better.

It takes a gentle and thoughtful approach to figuring yourself out, and encourages us to be kind to others experiencing things we don't understand 

There are so many characters in this show whose stories highlight this theme, but it is perhaps most evident in the story of Kakeru, Makoto's son, grappling with his identity and gender presentation. This show will surprise you again and again with how open and thoughtful it is about questions of identity and preference, and it constantly reinforces that we shouldn't assume we know everything about others and how they will react to our truths--if we give people a chance to know us, they might be more kind and supportive than we think.

This story sincerely believes that doing what makes you happy is always the right choice

And they make it clear over and over again: your personal happiness matters more than any societal constructs or cultural norms. Letting go of what people outside of their family think is what heals the Okitas and helps them find their love and trust for one another again.

Relatedly, it gets fandom in a way few dramas do

Makoto's wife, Mika, is a kpop stan, and his daughter, Moe, is a yaoi mangaka. One of the best parts of the show is Makoto coming to understand and appreciate their fandom and learn to respect the joy it gives them, and in turn, the whole family.

Everyone has the chance to redeem themselves

Regardless of what they have done in the past, every character in this story has a chance to redeem themselves and earn trust and respect back--and earn is the operative word there. This show doesn't demand perfection, but it absolutely demands that you care when you harm others and earnestly try to do better, and we see many characters take that journey. This is further underlined by a character in the story who does not put in that effort to try, and consequently is not forgiven or brought into the family fold. So satisfying.

Every character and every relationship matters

I was constantly amazed by how attentive this show is to every single relationship, not just the big family ones, or even just Makoto and Daichi. Makoto also goes out of his way to get to know Daichi's boyfriend Madoka, his coworkers, and Moe and Kakeru's friends, and we see connections form and deepen between so many side characters in this story. It really cares about all its characters as whole people.

And while it's doing all of this important thematic work and making us cry on the regular, it also manages to be very fucking funny! 

This show is hilarious, which may surprise you given all the heavy thematic work it's doing. But the writing has a deft touch and it manages to explore all these themes with a lot of humor. Watching Makoto learn new things and blunder his way through connecting with others is truly a delight.

And it caps off all of this with a great story about having the courage to love in the face of bigotry and a beautiful gay wedding

Perhaps the biggest spoiler here: we get a gay wedding! I was so surprised and thrilled to see Daichi and Madoka decide to marry--and not without some stumbles--and bring the Okita family so fully into their joy. What a beautiful way to end a gorgeous show. I will miss all of these people dearly.

Like, I've been into kpop since 2015 and have seen some extreme SHIT!! Exactly towards fans or people in general that are POCs in the fandom. They always show their WHOLE asses when it comes down to be racist or colorist. Fans also love to disregard things that are clearly wrong and they infantilize idols when they are GROWN ASS MEN and WOMEN. We shouldn't have to teach them or contact their agencies when they fuck up in public. Hell, I think agencies should even have a big ass press conference about what they did wrong instead of worrying about damaging their image in public. They didn't care about their image before they said the N word or did cultural appropriation on multiple occasions with black accents. I fear for the Black Kpop idols and actors/actresses/models in the kpop and Korean community. Because, you know they have seen and heard some crazy shit from people in their groups/careers and agencies. Also, I age at least 500 years when I see black fans that are okay with them doing it because "it made [Blank] look or sound so hot!" "[Blank] isn't antiblack because they have black producers, backup dancers, and choreographers in the company." "Don't blame [Blank] for not understanding AAVE or they didn't understand it was blackface or being colorist."

It's so fucking cringey when people make excuses for grown ass people that should know better. They have internet access over in Asia but they choose to be racist and colorist towards our people. Last time, we met Okita Makoto, a middle-aged supervisor of a copier sales company whose toxic masculinity has let him down in his professional and personal relationships. He regularly offends his juniors (especially the women on their team), his kpop stan wife, mangaka daughter, and queer son. An unlikely encounter with a self-assured gay man led to the start of a new friendship, and Okita has promised his son that he will work to update himself so he can connect with his family and peers.

I am a little sad for this man that the opening sequence was a dream. As off-putting as he is, I do think he genuinely cares for his family.

Wow, finally a show captures the constant pressure heteronormativity places on you when you don't fit in with it. That was an excellent sequence when Kakeru hesitated at the door.

Genuinely, this show is doing really well so far. It's putting in a lot of empathetic work on a man whose position allows his bad behaviors to cause issues for other people. I like that the show doesn't demonize him, and shows that his actions come from a believable human place. I also like that they use the wise gay child to ask the big question: Do you want to connect with others, or have you given up on people altogether?

I actually like this junior's explanation of why he wears a bra. I'm glad it wasn't a gender thing or even an expectedly queer thing. He just wanted to feel like he's supported and that's enough.

This flashback for Moe was also so good. We all make flippant comments about things we don't like or understand all the time. We won't remember it, but the people around us might. In this case, Moe knows her father will never understand her passions and can't share them with him.

Everything about this con is excellent so far. Makoto may be getting shock at everyone's outfits, but he picked up immediately at how determined everyone is and appreciates their discipline.

I teared up when Moe got emotional about Makoto selling the books, and love them ending that moment with her scream about him looking inside the work as a way to check on Kakeru.

I'm glad Makoto only observed that moment between Daichi and that guy, and has to confront the practical reality that Daichi is gay, and not just some magical youth that helps him. Daichi has a life.

Ending on Makoto seeing Kakeru as he wants to be is an excellent way to end this, because he's forced to see that people find strength in passions outside of his experience and must apply it to the people in his life.

This show is so good. There are quite a few characters, and the way they're weaving them into the narrative of the episode is truly special. In this episode we had Kakeru struggling to leave the house because he can't feel safe being seen as he is, while Moe is fighting to get out of the house because she needs to be seen by her people. Makoto is trying, but he's still not ready to see everyone the way they are. This is so legible. I am rooting for everyone.
