*It's late in the morning, but you can spot no one*

(giggles) [camera pans - Front Door] Two little boys enter the house.  *Where did these kids came from?*

Both stops on their tracks, noticing a tent with a camera in it. *Frozen* They stare blankly at it and starts giggling moving closer to the camera. *Why hello!* [camera focuses on the kid wearing a dark green pajama set] *His name is Hajoon* "Let's go!" Hajoon pulls the younger one who's busy making funny faces in front of the camera. [freezes - the younger one’s funny face] *This must be Hanjae*

KITCHEN

(uh oh) *Looks like someone's stealing snacks*

[Pan - kitchen entrance] *Someone's coming* *Hurry boys* “Hurry up Hanjae! Dad will wake up soon!” Hanjae closes the drawer and hands the biscuit to the other. *These kids have no idea what's waiting for them* (screams) *What happened?* "It was Hanjae!" "It was Hajoon!” Both said in unison. [slow pan - kitchen entrance] Someone is already leaning against the counter, arms cross. *Who is it?* [Tilt and freezes] *It's Tomorrow X Together's Choi Beomgyu* 

Beomgyu: Hi, my name is Beomgyu. I'm the father of 57-month-old twins: Choi Hajoon and Choi Hanjae. Nice to meet you! *Woah twins!* (amusement)

*Choi Beomgyu is a famous singer-songwriter. Aside from that he is also well know as the moodmaker of a KPOP group called TomorrowXTogether.*  [pictures/videos of him performing with the members in concerts and shows] *He's also pretty well-known in the industry for being funny without trying* [videos of him in variety/reality shows]

"Why were the kids outside early in the morning?" Beomgyu: They had a sleepover at Soobin. It was his turn that weekend. "Is his house just near?" Beomgyu: The members decided to live in one village and we own a street here. So the houses are relatively side by side. Plus it's a corner street, so we don't worry much about running cars.

LIVING-ROOM

Kids ran and slams themselves in the sofa. *What are they up to now?* Beomgyu follows and sits on the floor, facing the twins. *Looks like dad is gonna scold someone* "How many times do we have to tell you to ask permission first?" Beomgyu asks the kids who's trying their very best to sit properly. "Dad, we're really hungry." Hajoon answers. Hanjae holds Hajoon’s little hands. [camera zooms at their hands] (Aww) "Right and you chose the ones covered in chocolate. Hand it over." The kids hand it over while pouting.  "Next time ask, okay? Hajoon you should be looking out for Hanjae being the eldest. Now stop fussing and let's make breakfast. We dont want to wake mom up." Beomgyu.

The twins follow him and starts prepping the table. "I want noodles!" Hanjae. "I want steak!" Hajoon. Beomgyu looks back to see his twins giggling. *They’re very fond of their dad* "This is not a restoraunt." He exclaims as exaggerated as he can do, causing the twins to laugh. *So cute!*

KITCHEN /11:24 AM/ (door closes)

[zooms at the twins] Both of their heads turn towards the noise. "MOM!" *They're suddenly out of frame(laugh)* [camera pans to the newly arrived person] *Y/N looks so pretty in the morning* “Good morning.” Y/N goes to Beomgyu and gives him a kiss. (aww) "Mom! Me too!" Hajoon. *Someone's jealous* "Okay, okay." Y/N then kisses the twins’ cheeks. "Boys please settle down, we dont want to disturb the baby." Beomgyu. *Baby?* (Surprise)

Y/N: We've always wanted to have two kids: a girl and a boy. And we didn't expect to have twins during the first time. Beomgyu and I still wants a little girl, so we're trying.

[Freeze frame and zooms on Y/N's baby bump] *Currently, Y/N is 4-months-old pregnant* (amusement)

"Take a seat so we can eat." Beomgyu then places the food on the table. [zooms on the dishes] *Those look delicious*

"Aren't you known to not cook in the dorm?" Beomgyu: (laugh) Y/N's pregnancy this time made her have bad morning sickness that she needs to lie down for hours. Cooking is the least that I could do to lessen her load. *What a sweet and thoughtful husband*

/12:58 PM/

LIVING-ROOM

Beomgyu's lying in Y/N's lap while they watch the kids trying to enter the tent. "Yohan! Both of you and Yves will give the cameraman a hard time. Go to another tent." Y/N. *Yohan?* *Yves?*

Beomgyu: Those are the kids' English names. We try our best to make the kids speak both English and Korean as early as possible. Yohan is the eldest while Yves is the youngest.

"Are you sure you wont just stay at home during filming?" Beomgyu. "We don't want the kids to focus on me Beomi. It's your time to have fun without me. Plus mom's {beomgyu's} gonna accompany me while i'm not at home." "But I don't want to be away from you." *Dad sure is clingy* (laugh)

(door bell) (kids' scream)

The twins ran to the front door and Beomgyu follows through.  [camera's trying to focus]  *Who is it?*

"Uncle Yeonjun!" *Oh! It's Yeonjun* Yeonjun hugs the twins. "Let's go, the kids are already at the park." Yeonjun then looks Beomgyu from head to toe. "Yah! Why aren't you changed yet? Hurry up! Today's picnic." Beomgyu walks towards the bedroom, scratching his head, to change. While Yeonjun went to the living-room to make sure Beomgyu doesn't take so much time. *That still didn't change. They still bicker (laugh)* "Hey Junnie! Desserts in the fridge, sit down. I'll get it first." Y/N went to the kitchen to get the dessert. Beomgyu went out of the room right on time. He poses in front of Y/N hoping for compliments [camera pans from head to toe] (shalala) *Dad looks pretty* "Are you coming Y/N?" Yeonjun asks while side eyeing Beomgyu who isn't fazed by his pose. "Nope! Gonna savor the peace and quiet without my 3 kids." (shatters) Y/N then hands the apple pie to Beomgyu and pats his back. That remark made Yeonjun laugh and a pouty Beomgyu exits the house. *The kids surely do look like their dad: physical attributes and personality*

PARK

[camera pans the whole area]  *The park looks empty* (confuse) *Are they the only people in the park?* Beomgyu places the pie on the table and sits beside Taehyun. 

The twins are already at the sandpit burying something. *What could it be?* [zooms at the mystery treasure] *It looks like someone's eyeglasses*

"Dad! Did you saw my eyeglasses?" (Uh oh) *flashback to the mystery treasure* "Jiyoon! The twins are at it again!" *New kids arrives* *Who are they?*

[camera tilts to the parents at the table] "This is what you call karma." Soobin comments and sips on his juice. Everyone at the table laughs at Soobin’s comment. “It’s your kid’s eyeglasses, you know?” Hueningkai. *Jiyoon is Soobin's daughter?* (excitement) [shows Jiyoon] *She does look like her dad* “Well, lucky for her to be friends with the twins.” Soobin.  *He wants his kid to experience the same thing he’s experienced with Beomgyu (laugh)*

SANDPIT

An angry Jiyoon walks towards the twins with Minjun laughing beside her. *Looks like this is a normal occurrence* “My eyeglass.” Jiyoon places her little hand in front of the twins. [camera freezes at her hand] *Little angry hands* “Jiyoon. Don’t be angry.” Hanjae stands up and pats Jiyoon’s back. [flashback to Y/N patting Beomgyu's back] *This one looks like mom* *Jiyoon is now frowning* “We don’t remember where we buried it.” (Uh oh) Hajoon pats his hands on his pants. He suddenly raises his hand and gestures 3. *What could this mean?* “Minjun! Get the shovel!” Minjun rans to the parent’s table to get what was asked.

[camera follows a running Minjun] “Dad! We need the shovels!” Minjun excitedly told Yeonjun. *Oh! It's Yeonjun's son* *We should have known, he looks exactly like him* “Not again.” Despite that, Yeonjun still hands the shovel. *Parents aren’t even fazed*

[camera focuses on the sandpit] (crow) *Where do they even begin?* “This is why you should atleast put something to remind you where you hide things.” Jiyoon scolds Hajoon. “We really didn’t mean to lose it this time!” Hanjae peers hiding behind Hajoon. “That’s what you said last time though?” Mijun hands out the shovel.

/2:16 PM/

“FOUND IT!” (Excitement) *Hardwork pays off* [camera focuses at the kids] *Did they roll around the sandpit?* The kids are jumping off the excitement walking towards the table. “Took you guys long to find it this time.” Taehyun commented. “They buried 3 things in the sandpit today.” Jiyoon replied while trying to sit beside her dad. The twins follows and tries to sit beside Beomgyu. “Guess it’s more fun babysitting than having one who acts and looks like you huh?” Kai jokes that made everyone laugh. 

Beomgyu: (sigh) The kids are really a blessing. It’s just that there’s two of them, so it’s times 2 the effort of getting someone’s attention.

[camera focuses at Hajoon and Hanjae] *Someone’s tired* “We should head back now, the twins are already on the verge of sleeping.” Beomgyu carries the twins in each of his arms. Everyone bids goodbye and heads home.

Ever since he was a child, KIYOUNG wanted to be an entertainer. There are countless home videos of him putting on a show for his parents and extended family. His specific interest in idols began in middle school, and it wasn't long before he was auditioning for various entertainment companies. He was eventually accepted into a small and now bankrupt company, where he joined a few other teenage boys aiming to debut. From the start, it was, for the lack of a better description, a shit show. An altercation that ended with Kiyoung getting stitches led his parents and a few others to sue the company. His opportunity to join Zenith Entertainment arrived in 2016, when he was in university, having otherwise given up on becoming an idol. Jaeseop, whom he had met on an overnight trip where both of their schools booked the same destination, knew of his past experience and offered him a second chance. Kiyoung took it, and that experience, however terrible, helped him debut as Fable's lead vocalist and lead dancer. As the group's eldest member and the one with the most life experience outside of being an idol, he is seen as a supportive and dependable figure to the younger members. In Fable's rookie years, he was occasionally mistaken for the group's leader. In recent years, as more information about Jaeseop's role becomes public, that mistake occurs less and less. At the end of 2022, he began his mandatory military service as an active duty soldier. He returned to the group in the summer of 2024.

He is an only child who managed to hit on nearly every Asian American model minority stereotype growing up: he excelled in school (enough to skip third grade), played an instrument (piano, of his own choice), and claimed he wanted to be a professor (like his dad). Music was the single biggest challenge he faced of his own volition, and he threw himself into music production and songwriting with a fervor. The interest dogged him through high school, where he posted a few song covers and original music to a YouTube channel that never took off. At seventeen, he moved to New York for college, where he studied music composition at Columbia University. Four years, one messy friendship breakup, and copious amounts of alcohol and weed later, Andrew set his sights on the next big thing: kpop. He was never a fan of idol groups, preferring the niche, underground atmosphere of American indie bands. He put aside his prejudices for a few months during which he taught English at a hagwon in the evenings, attended various entertainment company auditions, discovered he was older than the average candidate, and finally passed the single public Zenith Entertainment audition and interview. After a year and a half of training that mostly involved dancing, Andrew made his debut as Fable's main vocalist under the stage name Yejun, which he picked for the Hanja characters 藝 (art) and 俊 (smart, handsome). Despite his qualifications, he made few contributions to Fable's discography until the release of their second full length album in 2023. Since then, he has gained a modicum of creative control while feeling completely inadequate at being in a group with Fable's concept alongside people who were born and raised in South Korea, or at least able to fake it.

Born on October 2, 1995, JAESEOP is one of the few children of his generation on his dad's side of the family. From an early age, it was thought that his future was laid out for him. He was supposed to do well in school, participate in a few extra-curriculars and become a well-rounded person, go to university, meet a nice girl, and start a family of his own. This seemingly perfect plan was derailed by his lack of interest in everything except getting along with others. Worried, his family pushed him into their backup plan instead. Jaeseop became Zenith Entertainment's first trainee shortly after the company was founded in the summer of 2016. In a case of poor communication and misplaced assumptions, he thought he was working with his uncle's new business in some sort of management capacity related to his in-progress PR degree, not as an artist. While he was meant to be an extension of Taein within the group, his unfailing moral compass and tendency to root for the underdog have made him the greatest ally of the other Fable members instead of his uncle. As Fable's leader and number one defender, he enjoys a great amount of respect from fans, who give him much more leeway compared to the other members. He gets away with running his mouth (Mingeun could never) and having a girlfriend (Haksu could never). In late 2023, he was gifted a portion of his father's share of Zenith Entertainment, giving him a stake in the company and the slightest bit more power.

INTAK was born on December 3, 1995, in Incheon, South Korea. His father's somewhat volatile job as a construction foreman saw his family moving frequently around the city. When he was twelve, his father was laid off, leaving them to relocate to Gwangyang, where his mother's family lived. Intak, who always had difficulties making friends, found this new environment, combined with his father's unemployment, extremely hostile. He found solace online instead, meeting Kiyoung on a StarCraft forum and discovering music production. The latter became a hobby for him, and he eventually started a SoundCloud account that peaked at two thousand followers. In 2016, he was invited to join Zenith Entertainment by Kiyoung, despite the two of them meeting in person only a few times. He was hesitant at first, as he held quite a few negative opinions on idols. At the same time, the thought of living in the same house as his parents forever was becoming unbearable, and so he accepted the offer. He debuted as Fable's main rapper and unofficial main producer, holding the latter position for the first few years of his career. Though Intak doesn't speak about it much, he's the one who made Taein's vision for the group a reality. His biggest responsibilities have been their debut song, 승천, and the title track of their first full-length album, 천둥. His musical contributions have lessened as he started splitting the production with Andrew, but he remains a mostly silent and integral part of the group.

HAKSU was born on August 8, 1997, exactly twenty-one years before Fable's debut. He calls it fate. An only child of only children with known fertility problems, his birth was considered nothing short of a miracle. He would also consider himself a miracle. With his comfortable and pampered childhood, he easily developed an ego. It was further exacerbated as he grew up and learned he could use his good looks and a smile to get his way. His interest in singing developed from the years he spent in his church's choir, which also did nothing to temper his opinions on himself. His interest in being an idol developed from a dream he had in his sophomore year at Sahmyook University, where he was scraping his way through a degree in business administration. Haksu was the last member added to Fable's debut lineup in late 2017, mere days after he joined the company. Eight months later, on his twenty-first birthday, he debuted as Fable's main vocalist and center. For the first few years after the group's debut, he was the only member idol fans in general would even have a chance of recognizing. His solo activities—photo shoots, advertisements, an appearance on King of Mask Singer—did nothing to bolster the group's popularity. As a result of the group's extremely uneven individual popularities, Haksu is often the bias of choice for many akgaes and sasaengs. His boyfriend approach to fan service only seems to encourage them, and they, in turn, have helped Fable gain further prominence.

EUNSU was born on July 10, 1999 in Taebaek, South Korea, a fact he tried desperately to hide. The second son of a Buddhist priest, he had the freedom to choose his own path, unlike his older brother, Yonggeum, who was set to succeed their father from the time he was born. Eunsu's choice then became music. In middle school, he and a few friends started a band, where he played bass guitar. He made the leap to Seoul for high school, where he attended SOPA and an SM Entertainment audition with some classmates. A few of them, including Eunsu, managed to pass. He would only spend a year at SM, before deciding to leave alongside Mingeun. He debuted as Fable's main rapper two years later. While a member of the group, he was most popular for his Tom and Jerry-esque antics with Haksu and his close friendship with Mingeun. In 2021, Yonggeum was the victim of a drunk driver's hit-and-run, leading to Eunsu's departure from Fable. Officially, he left for personal reasons. Unofficially, he left to inherit his father and brother's position. He remains on very good terms with the group, making occasional appearances in their music and other content.

MINGEUN was born on November 13, 1999 in Yongin, South Korea. When he was two, he moved to Canada with his parents and older sister, Minah. His younger sister, Eunice, was born shortly after their move. Growing up, he was often labeled as a shy and solitary child. In school, he took the English name Eric, after the prince in the The Little Mermaid, which he no longer answers to. Despite immigrating and becoming a naturalized Canadian citizen at the age of twelve, his parents raised all three of their children with a favorable view of their home country. They spoke Korean at home and often traveled back to South Korea on summer vacations. On one such trip, when he was eleven, Mingeun was scouted by SM Entertainment hours before a flight at Incheon International Airport. His mother accepted the offer on his behalf, and before he knew it, he was a trainee. He spent five years—mostly summers—as an SM trainee, where he met future fellow Fable member Eunsu, before being dropped for his inability to work with others. It was, coincidentally, around the same time he dropped out of high school to pursue an idol career full time and the same time Taein founded Zenith Entertainment. A few months of relentless begging later found him as Zenith's fifth trainee. In his first few months at Zenith, he was a shoo-in for Fable's main vocalist. Two years later, following the additions of ANDREW and HAKSU and a very close call where he was initially cut from Fable's final lineup, Mingeun debuted as Fable's main dancer and lead vocalist. He is most well known for his 2020 scandal, in which fans discovered that he was not, in fact, born and raised in Yongin like he said he was, but a Canadian citizen. He took a nearly two-year hiatus from the group, and his reputation has only recently began to recover. He is one of the group's most publicly outspoken members, following the logic that his reputation can't get much worse.

BYEONGHWI was born on May 18, 2001, in Jecheon, South Korea. His career goal, for most of his life, was to be a professional soccer player, despite being only decent at the sport. It was a trend in most other areas of his life as well. He had passable grades, a few close friends, and very little wants. He stood out only for his excellent moral standing in which he could generally be trusted to have integrity and tell the truth. When he was in high school, he accompanied his best friend at the time to a Zenith Entertainment audition as part of his friend's goal to become a kpop idol. It was thought that neither of them passed the audition until Byeonghwi got a call back a few months later. He officially became a trainee in mid 2017, and made his debut in Fable a little over a year later. As the group's youngest member, he is babied by fans and the rest of Fable alike. At first, he didn't mind it. As he grew older, it became tiring for him to be continually boxed into the same persona, especially when the rest of the group got to grow personally and professionally. He's working on rebelling, but it's difficult for him when it's been ingrained in him to be good for so much of his life.

Are songs shorter nowadays and is it a problem for the popular music industry?

I feel like when we compare popular music from the 1980-90s to the 2010-20s, one of the main difference is the length of songs. At the 2024 Grammy Awards, a lot of the nominated songs were under 3 minutes with, for example, “Dance The Night” by Dua Lipa or SZA’s “Kill Bill”. But why is that?

In the 50s a 45-rpm single could only hold about 5 minutes of music so songs were, on the average, 3 and a half minutes long on vinyl records. In the 60s/70s artists started experimenting with longer pieces like Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” being more than 6 minutes long or “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen lasting 5 minutes and 55 seconds. In the 1980-90s, as CDs didn’t have the same restrictions as vinyls, the average song length was about 4 minutes but since 1990, on the Billboard Hot 100, songs length went from over 4 minutes to around 3, regardless of the genre. This decrease was caused by radio edits that shortened songs to 3 and a half minutes but it is mostly because of streaming platforms and social media.

The way streaming platforms work is pretty simple, an artist is payed every time a song of theirs is played in its entirety no matter its length so it is more economically profitable for them to make shorter songs. Listeners have to be engaged in the first 30 seconds of a song, making shorter intros and directly engaging and catchy hooks reduces the chances of the song getting skipped.

Social media, especially Tiktok, have changed the way we interact with music and artists; on the one hand it allows creativeness and an easy way to connect with people but it is also so fast-paced that it ruins our attention span, which is why shorter songs are preferred on those apps. We can see it with the 2023 Tiktok hit song “Super Shy” by the kpop group New Jeans being only 2 minutes and 34 seconds long

It is more profitable for artists to release shorter songs but some of them also do it to experiment with their art, like the singer PinkPantheress who said in an interview that she thinks songs don’t need to be more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds long. Her saying that resulted in a lot of backlash, people, from simple listeners to professionals, have expressed their opinion on the matter and have said that songs getting shorter is a big issue in the music industry. In a way I agree because if artists start to only make music for economic purposes, we will lose the art of it but at the same time, music length is something that has been changing for decades now and the popular music artists of our time are experimenting with their creations just like they did in the 60s and 70s so I don’t think it is necessarily wrong to think they way PinkPantheress does. Popular music has always, and will always be influenced by the latest technology and the way we, as the audience, consume it so I don’t see why it would be alarming or a threat to songwriting/ the music industry if songs are getting shorter.

They’re actually neutral to me as they see that this is the dreams of the children (to be idols). They accept that it’s their own choice so they’re not forcing them to have stronger opinions about this. They aren’t mad or have intentions to make them moneymakers or something like that so yeah, quite neutral opinion. They seem to support their dreams.

this is an interview with rodnae chikk bell, one of the songwriters from the very first sm songwriting camp in 2013 with harvey mason jr. she wrote the melodic toplines for songs like mr. mr. overdose don't call me kick it favorite and also tracks for taeyeon boa and red velvet.

she talks about the process of writing mr. mr. at length and it's super illuminating. at this point it was the very first time they got a group of US songwriters on these kpop tracks and this rly marked a turning point in the kpop industry. she talks about how kenzie was at this camp telling them to never be predictable and chikk researched more about harmonies and minor scales and started leaning into unusual and interesting melodies that have ended up defining sm's style and influencing the entire kpop genre. she also talks about how she fought for better pay for songwriters within the industry and how things are better now because of it.

her stories were rly interesting! i loved hearing about the songwriting process for mr. mr. and how she didn't even know what kpop was back then. she said that in the US her songs would be sold but not released on albums but she got two #1 hits (mr. mr. and overdose) on the very first try when she had no idea where these songs would end up. i feel like chikk and the other writers and producers of the early sm camps are rly important historically for tracking and appreciating the evolution of the kpop sound and how it's different and more interesting than US pop a lot of the time. rn as kpop has entered the global mainstream the trends seem to be backing away from the need for unpredictability into a more U.S. radio friendly sound but this 2nd/3rd gen experimentation that chikk was a part of forming is rly one of the best parts of kpop.

Ive just listened to the latest ep of the pod, it was wonderful!! Halla's point on how parasocialiaty is defined by what it lacks, to be very insightful , ive always had a slight issue with how parasocial relationships r discussed in scholarship and the rapidly changing nature of media does not help.

when u guys were talking about how different artists develop different styles of parasocial relationships with their fans, like how the nature of a harries relationship with harry styles is in a way different from the parasocial relationship we have with matty or the relationships swifties have with taylor. And how artist actively foster these relationships so in a way they are a two-way street (please lmk if I'm misunderstanding ur points, cause I'm listening to the pod at work so I may miss some key info),

Anyway, this reminded me of a convo I had with a prof of mine, we were talking about the narrative and meta-narratives that artists (specifically singer-songwriters) present to the public (cause all famous people r presenting a narrative that's y they're famous)

I think this narrative/ meta-narrative really affects the establishment and nature of the artist/ audience parasocial relationship. I think that for an artist to be "stan-able" they must present a meta-narrative, so there is,, something MORE for the fans to know about them. For example, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay have huge fanbases and can play arenas but don't really have stans because they only present a narrative (i.e. the music/ album). Whereas artists like Harry styles and most kpop groups actively foster a parasocial relationship by presenting a narrative (i.e. the music/ album) then a meta-narrative, for harry this would be his vague allusions to queerness, for kpop groups this would be the slow reveal of their real personalities (cause a lot of kpop groups r given explicit "roles" by their management like "the cool one" "the childish one" "the leader" etc). This meta-narrative allows for dedicated fans to "know" the artist better than fan who "just" listen to the songs. Personally, i think matty presents a third kind of "post-meta- narrative" so his narrative is the album then his meta-narrative is the onstage/in-interview performance art then his post-meta-narrative is his reflection on the performance art. I think the main difference between artists who have a meta-narrative and artists who have a post-meta-narrative is that we don't know what harry styles the person thinks about "harry styles" the performance, whereas id argue that we know what matty the person thinks about "matty healy" the performance.

I dont have a super cohesive point to end on but I do think that matty presenting a post-meta-narrative gets lost in translation when the 1975 gets exposed to wider audiences (like the swiftes) who take the red-pilled, toxic masculinity, meta-narrative Matty presents, as the end all be all.

Because, as we were talking, in the back of my head, I was thinking about my second favorite artist, Father John Misty, whose music is lowkey similar to the 1975 in a lot of ways. And it’s definitely shaped me as a person a lot. He’s been my top artist on Spotify wrapped stats for years. HOWEVERRR, I don’t have the same relationship to him/ his art as Matty and the 1975. I think it’s precisely because of the meta-narrative that you’re pointing to!

perhaps that’s part of what Matty has in mind when he says “feeling personally addressed.” Even little things like referencing their own earlier discography or tongue-in-cheek jokes about lyrics. “You can’t figure out a heart you were lyin’” “it’s just like I’ve lost my head.” Not to mention Notes tracks that have samples of ABIIOR in the back/ signaling the end of Music For Cars era etc. all of those things feel like building a narrative that the fan can participate in, and is likely to make you more immersed in the music and the artist. So yeah 100% I think this is a really great thought and if you don’t mind us referencing it on the next ep (it’s gonna be a part 2 of this conversation but more centered around consumerism in fan culture) I’d love to bring it up with Zoe!

Personally I’m not the best with any producing history in kpop and I don’t follow any groups prior to 2018. But soyeon is recognized as a groundbreaking producer. She fought tooth and nail for every song since debut. She has mentioned how difficult it was specifically because she was a woman as she started to show interest in it. She has earned her fame and rights to brag. And whenever I see Yuqi and Minnie talking about producing they just sound so proud of it? That they can do it (both in terms of being able to make music and having earned the opportunity / right to do so). I don’t see any issue with them being vocal about how proud they are. I’m not sure I’m getting my point across because I’m not sure I even understand what you mean by nuanced? Like the way I’m interpreting I just don’t think they need to be defensive about it in terms of “oh we produce but x and y did it too” or “oh we produce but we understand it’s one in a million companies who will even give women this opportunity” I don’t think they need to explain and excuse themselves at every turn, and can and should just be loudly happy about it. The more natural they make it sound then maybe more groups will have this opportunity. If this was not what you meant or you want to give me further details please feel free to do so.

About SOOJIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m trying to be soooooooooo cool but like. I don’t think I have fully processed it yet. Obviously I dreamed but realistically I didn’t think she would even want to come back. I’m still holding a grudge against knetz and I don’t even trust them to do this solo debut right. But her Instagram had a very good response, so hopefully her debut will go smoothly and she will be 4th and 5th gen main slayer and truly the industry needs her. About her and the rest of the members public interactions im sure cube will spend a lot to backlist her at least from m countdown. Who’s Cha Eunwoo

Dong Min (이동민; born Mar 30, 1997), better known as Cha Eunwoo (차은우), is a South Korean actor, model, singer, and member of the Kpop group Astro under Fantiago Entertainment. He made his debut as an actor in the movie My Brilliant Life in 2014. He debuted with Astro on Feb 23, 2016.

In 2021, Cha Eunwoo starred in another popular TV series True Beauty. He played the male lead Lee Su-ho, a seemingly perfect high school student with a dark secret.

Can you tell us more about this comeback?

This is my third mini-album. It's an album that portrays my identity and the process of my growth in a slightly more mature way. The single "Love Bomber" expresses the process of transformation through its music video. To embrace further growth and welcome a new version of myself, I used my English name, "Peter," to symbolize letting go of my past self.

Solo activities were really challenging. Just as there’s nothing I can achieve on my own, I’ve realized how important it is to work together with many passionate people. I learned that it takes a lot of effort to make that happen. Over the past five years, I faced many difficulties during all my album production processes, but this album was the most challenging yet rewarding experience. I was so happy all the way through to the final concert! As for group activities, I think most of the burden fell on our leader, Yongguk-hyung. Thanks to him, being part of the team feels like a haven for me, filled with joy.

Can you tell us about a defining moment in your journey as an artist so far?

Of course, it was about taking on the challenge of a survival program. I gave a lot of thought before deciding to participate in Peak Time. In the end, the determination that allowed me to take on the challenge was, "Let's confirm my worth." It was a time when I was doubting myself, and I felt that if I couldn't truly prove myself here, this wouldn’t be something I could just say I wanted to do anymore.

You have released quite a lot of music throughout your long and successful career. Among all of the music that you have made, do you have a favorite? If so, can you tell us why?

I have a lot of songs that I like. But I think the one that is most similar to my taste would be ‘US’.

Everyone is curious to know what kind of person Moon Jong Up is behind the cameras and microphones. How would you describe yourself and your personality?

I think I get along well with many people in a friendly way. Also, I’m the type who feels like I need to do what I want, and I’m pretty stubborn.

Which artists from both Korea and the international music industry inspired you to become a musician? Which artist do you wish to collaborate with?

I feel like I’m learning from many different artists in different ways. As for collaborations, it’ll be great to do it with a wide range of artists.

Outside of your activities as a musician, what kind of hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?

I mostly spend my time watching animations or documentaries.

What keeps Moon Jong Up inspired to keep pushing your music career further?

At first it was various music and movies, but now it feels like it’s just life itself.

How do fans inspire your work? Do you have any memorable interactions with fans that have stuck with you?

In the end it’s the fans who enjoy listening to my music and supporting me, so each moment is about them. I always feel like we’re in this together.

The song "Feel Me" is the one I had the most hands-on involvement with from start to finish, so it feels the closest to me. I can vividly feel the emotions and the memories I had when writing it.

I want to let them hear the truth about myself and my feelings when I'm not on stage. Like telling them what kind of person I am, and so the fans and I can understand each other better and feel closer.

What is the most fulfilling part of being a musician? What about the most challenging part?

It’s satisfying to know that as I gain a deeper understanding of what I do, I’m able to share my story in greater detail. To make that happen, I feel like I need to learn more and stay more active.

Idk why something always seems a bit off about txt performances for me. Maybe bc they don't always seem to fit their concept? Or some of them fit it more than others? Sometimes they don't seem like a cohesive group or like there's something missing. They're so popular and keep getting more successful, so I always try to check out their new music, but I can't seem to get the hype. Most other successful bgs I understand why people see the full package in them, even if I don't stan, but it doesn't click with me with txt and I don't find their performances very memorable. I hope this doesn't come across as me hating on them bc I really want to like them since they seem nice

I think every single time TXT drop a new song or I watch their performances I comment on this. TXT don't really have star appeal to me. There's nothing exceptionally charming or attractive about them. They don't particularly stand out in variety shows, interviews, or their own content; none of the members, even Yeonjun, stands out to me individually outside the stage; their styling is super boring and always the same, not to mention uncool; their choreos are too repetitive and fast paced - I never have the time to appreciate anything since the boys are always transitioning from one move to the next at a steady pace, so nothing sticks out to me, with the choreos lacking dynamic, uniqueness, and being unmemorable, no single member ever having a point move or something that makes me remember them; their performances lack spontaneity and charisma too - they're just well rehearsed but not alive, exciting, hype, different. To me, TXT are a very typical boy group. They aren't any different from most groups who don't have much of a say in their artistic vision, and TXT do have songwriting credits on most albums, but even other groups have a bigger identity and ownership of their group. IVE aren't particularly involved in their artistic output, but already have a stronger brand and a more distinct and recognizable image than TXT. You know who IVE are and the members generally embody the concept of the group well without it seeming fake or too much like a concept. TXT, on the other hand, mostly feel like a group put together by Big Hit with the members just following orders and trying out the concepts they're assigned. It feels more like a business venture and less like a group. TXT have their own image and sound, and the members' bonds bring the group together, but, at the same time, it's like the group doesn't really belong to them and the members could be replaced to create a new TXT, like the concept of TXT is stronger than the group itself. I like the boys, but I can't imagine them ever blowing up. They're not memorable or engaging enough to me. SKZ's success makes so much more sense imo.

I'm not hating on them either, because I like them, but they're missing something for me too.

sorry for the rant but !! so many people have said that if bp disband they only see chaelisa continuing with music as they think they’re the only ones passionate about songwriting or performing and I don’t get it!!! for Jisoo, I do think she loves music and she’ll probably release more stuff someday but obviously rn she’s going into acting next. but I’m just so so so so soooooo confused that people genuinely believe that Jennie doesn’t want to do music.

Jennie is so passionate about music and imo you and me is a great example of how passionate she is. it’s so obvious to me that she put her all into this. she co-wrote the song and kmedia says she produced the performance video too but I’m waiting for further confirmation of that. the entire concept is so clearly Jennie’s idea. a lot of work went into it and it’s not even a proper solo release and I’m not too sure that yg would have done this if it wasn’t for her input. Jennie is so creatively involved with the things she does. she has official credits in both lyrics and production for multiple songs. she was a creative director for born pink. she comes up with concepts (eg you and me). she styled her solo era, her solo stages for both tours, the hylt hanboks, the ktl lara croft outfits, the pv mv, and more. outside of music she has designed 2 gentle monster collections, a calvin klein collection and her own porsche. she helped develop her jentle garden game. she was a guest editor for vogue korea. she was a creative director for her calvin klein campaign. the list goes on!

do they think her not releasing any solo music since 2018 was her choice? when has any idol had complete control over when they release stuff? yg’s inability to plan anything meant that the bp solos were all so far apart which meant Jennie has had to wait 5 years to release her new music. so during that time she had to focus on other non-music things instead and she excelled every time. on top of that yg has limited every female artist they have ever had so we haven’t even seen any of the pinks at their full potential so how can anyone make the judgement on what they’re passionate about when they haven’t really been able to show it yet?

it’s a catch 22 in a way bcs I do feel that people giving her shit all the time has made her less passionate about being a kpop idol. tbh I think anyone else would feel the same if they were in her shoes. it doesn’t matter how often she’s great people will harass her. that being said she still does want to be a kpop idol and in the k-entertainment industry as she’s just been booked as a permanent cast member of a variety show. and even despite all the harassment I don’t think she is any less passionate about music itself.

anw fuck the jensetters that said that releasing you and me would be embarrassing. if anything I think it has just made people more excited for jnk1. and personally I can’t wait to hear it!!

100000% AGREE !!!!! i hate when blinks/akgaes say “only xyz is/are passionate about music” bcs that is so disrespectful, but also ………. jennie ? not passionate about music ? jennie ????????? like u have mentioned with your (perfect!) examples, she is obviously and undeniably very passionate about her craft and loves working on anything creative, whether that is music or fashion!! plus, she’s literally mentioned working on music or wanting to release music in nearly every single interview for years….she obviously cares about music a lot !!!!! the only reason why she hasn’t released more songs is only bcs of yg, not lack of wanting !!!!! it’s just ridiculous to have people doubting whether she’ll keep making music in the future or worrying about the success and quality of jnk1 - her talents span so many different fields, she will do just fine

and yeah :/ i don’t think the constant harassment has made her less passionate per se, i think it’s more that she may have become more hesitant to put stuff out there into the world and might feel somewhat drained when working bcs she already knows that no matter what she does she’ll get harassed…i hope not but i definitely would understand if she felt this way 😕 but like u said, it hasn’t made her less passionate about music itself! maybe she’s less enthusiastic about being an idol sometimes - but that’s a job after all, it’s not the craft itself
