if you say "i like everything except country and hip-hop"

there was a post going around a while ago which had people justifying why they don't listen to black music and rap and it pissed me off so i made a baby's first rap playlist.

some personalized recommendations below the cut

Being An Ally (tm) means complaining about racism and also Pushing The People You Are In Community With To Do Better. so I've compiled a list of excuses I've heard people make and some songs to counteract those excuses.

so i went through the post and then some reddit/quora responses for "why don't you like black artists" and "why don't you like rap"-- the general answer for lots of these is "you have uninterrogated racism and bias and you aren't working on fixing that"

so while i don't think a lot of these excuses are like, good excuses, I'm going to go down a list of excuses and recommend some starter songs

i think a lot of White Kids have this response of "i like everything except rap and country", but black musicians make every kind of music! rap itself has a ton of variation-- it's not just mumble rap and gangsta rap, there's tons of artists with different voices, different styles, and different results. (honestly a lot of you would like backpack rap and nerd rap. i see you)

ok go through and listen to what I've linked above. do those all sound the same to you? think about why. think about what you like about other music, and what it might be about this music in particular that you don't like.

if you listen to a song by tupac, or snoop dog, or any other 90s rapper, their music is the cornerstone of all of modern music. including country. including kpop. including stuff that's far away from any other music. without hiphop and rap you don't have like. half the other genres that currently exist, and the other half have no reason to evolve or change.

Random-Ass and Super Rare Personal Post

There’s no big reason for this. I/We’ve had several cats over the years, but I don’t know how much longer we’ll have our current count, and I wanted to commemorate them while they’re all here. Basically pet loss fucking sucks, and I’m feeling sappy. Also this is more for future-me than anything else, so sorry if this gets a little verbose.

The newest addition, Tinker. 1-2 years old.

I literally rescued him from a tree this past October but he officially became a part of our family in February. He’s long af, is very high energy, and likes to hop to places he doesn’t belong and open doors he shouldn’t.

This is Leo, 2-3 years old.

He’s the one that’s technically “my” cat. He’s really feisty and playful, and he doesn’t like to be held or carried. But he loves attention, especially lap time; and he likes it when I cup my hand under his head while he sleeps. He also loves french fries, and dangling string toys.

This is Barney, aka Barnabas. 7 years old, and no, he and Leo aren’t related, shockingly.

He’s the snuggliest, cuddliest, sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. As long as you’re holding him he’s tolerant of most any position you put him in. He has a penchant for stealing seats and trying to pilfer sips of tea, he’s very inquisitive, and is prone to fits of jealousy. He stands up and stretches tall for pets, particularly when you’re making coffee, and he has a really cute, almost effeminate meow. Also, he likes kpop, and his bias is Baekhyun. UN Village is his favorite. 😂

This is Abby, 17 years old.

I found her and her three siblings in an outbuilding in 2005, as newborn kittens. But we only wound up keeping her and one of her sisters. She is literally the hissiest cat we’ve ever had; she doesn’t like strangers, and she doesn’t like being approached too quickly. But she is insanely patient when it comes to getting pets; she’ll sit and stare at you for almost a half hour if she thinks she’ll get love. She’s also our Halloween kitty, because she has the ideal spooky posture. And if you so much as stroke her back she’ll lift up into the touch. Back in the day she would flop over for belly rubs, and even now if you pick her up she’ll arch her back and snuggle into your face so you can scratch her tummy. Her face is always curious, and she has a sweet, chirping meow. So despite her angry reputation she’s actually a big sweetie pie. Plus she’s able to frighten dogs literally 10x her size.

Finally, this is Lil’ Bit, also 17, and Abby’s sister; the only siblings we’ve ever had.

Lil Bit is why we took the two girls in, because an animal attacked her and left a nasty open wound on her neck that got infected. She needed peroxide rinses for weeks. The scar is still noticeable there now, and she loves to be scratched in that spot. She’s the loner queen of the lot. She has one room that she resides in, as you can guess by the difference in her picture, and only rarely does she venture out to say hi to people. Back in the day she would almost never meow or make any sound, except for a really cool purr she has that sounds like a popcorn maker. But after our cat Boomer died she picked up his habit of yowling into the night when she’s upset. She’s also one of the few cats we’ve had that expresses love with kisses and nips. And if she sticks around for pets, or deigns to grant you lap time, consider yourself one of the chosen few.

That’s it. Maybe someday I’ll do a big ol’ pet master list, but this will do for now. ❤️

since it’s been literally an entire month since i last posted any written works on my kpop writing acc, i decided to make a kind of a short(?) list of what i have currently in the works so i can give you guys an update abt how im doing in terms of activity on blr :

mischief & justice

currently have a bit of progress on both jungwon and jay’s fics (around 2-3k words for both drafts rn). i’m also going to be editing the master list and the banners so expect the aesthetics to be different when i finally post the first fic which is most likely going to be jay’s. since i like to write fighting scenes i might be able to finish about 3/7 m&j fics if i have enough time, i am pretty excited to write this mini series so don’t worry about it getting discontinued ^^

this is the one i’m prioritizing currently and i’m invested with the plot i have in my head so i hope you guys will take your time reading it once the fic comes out! not a lot to say about this since it’s vastly different from m&j but this is kind of self indulgent because the setting of the story is a film club and i’m actually in a film club irl (lol) so film/movie club + ultimate bias is equals to me giggling and swinging my feet like okay let’s grab popcorn and watch elemental while holding hands 😛😝✌️
