BITE THE APPLE is the FIRST FULL ALBUM of the fictional South Korean Co-ed group BRATPACK. Released on August 8th, 2024, the album housed eleven tracks, all of which were produced by the MOON SIBLINGS. Not a single member of BratPack could be found in the album's credits, but they're idols, not writers or producers.
Tumblr media
The album's two title tracks, "TEMPASSION" and "BATTLE ZONE," were promoted for three solid months, making this their longest promotional period since their debut. They would take home only two music show awards, marking their first music show win ever as a group.
BITE THE APPLE is a controversial album. Many people loved and hated it, but Twitter couldn't shut up about it, which was the whole point. Almanda Summers knows how to get the internet buzzing, good or bad, and with the particularly bloody yet sensual concept Bite The Apple went for, no one could shut up about this album.
Tumblr media
ACIDIC COMMENTARY: Bea was not given the same prompt as the other brats. She was asked, "What got you into music?" We're not sure why she was asked a question different from the others. This video was recorded before official track names were released.
With visuals inspired by the 2000 Japanese action film directed by Kinji Fukasaku Battle Royal, as well as biblical references scattered throughout their seven music videos, the group became Pinterest darlings and dominated Tumblr aesthetic tags. Though visually stunning, this would earn them the title, which I guess is supposed to be an insult, of a "visual group" meaning they were only good for their visuals not their music. BratPack stans would not take offense to this. Why would they? The argument was flimsy. Why are you mad they're stanning hot people with superb creative direction? Sounds like a personal problem.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, the line distribution became more and more of an issue with fans as it felt like the girls were carrying the songs more often than not, with the three male members acting as backup vocalists or backup dancers. Though their lack of lines did not phase Chance and Jiu, Hajin often stole lines from his female counterparts during live performances. "I trained to be a singer. I'm going to sing." The youngest would say on a live stream. BratPack fans were split on how to feel about Hajin's attitude. As long as it didn't affect the group's dynamic, there's no harm in it, right? Plus, he was only stealing Brigett's lines. It's not like anyone is really here for Bridgett Lee. People only like her because of her brother. It's not an issue if she has fewer lines.

My newest thoughts...
I've been doing some intense thinking while I've been away. While watching Jk's lastest live, everything got connected inside my brain.
So back on 7/7, I had some sort of epiphany while answering an ask and I came up with the following theory.
(I deleted the post because damn Dewunkim has gotten on my nerves and I saw her reblog it. So if anyone has this in their reblogs, could you all send it to me? Thaaanks!)
Anyway, this is what I remember thinking:
If Jikook is together, they were told to lay low because they don't want it to be known that Jk is gay. That would ruin his chance to become a superstar.
It wasn't for military enlistment purposes.
Jikook continues to be spotted in Korea but is not seen by international fans.
Jimin is queer but also Jk. Is it possible that the company retaliated because Jimin's album was queer coded and he has been queer coding his stuff since a while back?
I feel like the stuff that's been happening lately has been confirming my theory:
•Portrayal of Jk as a straight male in Seven mv.
Tumblr media
Not much happening in that mv. Boring, tbh. No chemistry although I do think that Jk and Sohee are friends now but the romantic chemistry isn't there.
There is that also that disconnect where the more explicit lyrics dont match the mv.
Tumblr media
"It's the way that we can ride" and it shows a spaghetti plate? I could have shown...other things.
The song has a funeral scene with Jk being funny in a coffin. Be for real.
With lyrics like that you could have a really sensual and sexual fun mv. Pillowtalk meets Butter. But we got a comedic mv instead.
So maybe Jk is has no problem singing sex songs and pronouns but he draws the line at physical contact?
And for the love of the gods, I can't possibly see a connection between this mv/song and Jimin. That's insulting to me.
A song about a straight guy singing to a girl is for Jimin? Not for me. Never. Don't insult jikook or Jimin like that. Not everything has to be connected.
•Jk's Weverse Interview
He states:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I saw sooo many jikookers saying that the company was imposing this image on Jk and poor Jk blah blah and a few days before his weverse interview, I told a friend "Maybe this is how he wants to be seen. As a het male."
And there is nothing wrong with that! He can be seen as straight cool sexy Jk. Let him be and stop making excuses for normal things.
But the main point to take from this is that he is on his way to being a superstar. Being boyffie to Jimin does not help so they had to hide that. Lay low.
Knowing what we know about Jimin and how private he is, I imagine he was totally on board with laying low for the eyes of international fans. He is also selfless to a fault and he would like to see Jk achieve his dreams. This I strongly believe.
And also, a real couple doesn't need an audience. They are not a spectacle. So laying low is a win win.
•Jk's weverse live on 21/7
Basically telling the fans that he will do as he pleases so get ready because he has grown.
Tumblr media
He wants to be the superstar Jk and for people to recognize it. Being baby star candy will not get him the recognition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like Jk knows quite well of his popularity outside of Korea. Even if the stuff he releases is not liked in Korea, international fans will support it.
International fans need the provocative. They won't judge and scrutinize the way Korean fans do. In fact, he will be embraced and loved the more sex he sells.
He will up the fan service. Y/n rejoice!
And it's obvious that the main focus of his promo was not Korea.
Tumblr media
The target is a western market where not being queer is more profitable. Where soft masculinity is laughed at.
Tumblr media
He's letting the softies know. Take it as a warning, softies lol
People think that his tattoo doesn't fit with his words now but Jk has always been like this. He just wasn't vocal about it.
Tumblr media
While his tattoo says that he rather be dead than cool, I feel Jk hasn't quite found himself yet and tries the things that he thinks will make him look cool while still remaining unbothered about being cool. But we know that's not true.
So for me, all of this also confirms that Jk knows exactly what he is doing. He knows how this looks and how this is playing out.
He knows about the business, even if he stated in his weverse interview that he leaves that to the pros. A guy thats been in this 10 years and he doesn't look into how his promo will play out? Not believable.
That sounded like damage control by the company to meeeeeee....
In terms of jikook: They seem to be fine. Jimin went to NY to support Jk but not Seven. He "forgot" his password. He was also letting the softies know that he won't post.
I cannot for the love of the gods come up with a theory on why Jk is ok with getting all this nice promo while Jimin got nothing.
The whole "he is doing it for both of them" doesn't really make sense to me. Maybe I'll get the answer to this in a dream or while answering a random post.
So obviously, the whole "they are laying low for military enlistment" never made sense to me. Who even came up with that?
And why are we repeating theories with absolutely nothing to back them up like the common taekooker?
Anyways, hope I made sense!
Ah, if you happen to find a blog out there in the wild where it sounds like me, that's because it is me. My thoughts are looser there. Don't say hi if you are going to bother me.
Oh, and hello. I guess I'm back.

The History of Korean Girl Groups' evolution over time - Before Liberation to Girls Generation (SNSD) -> Part 2
Note there will the use of both Korean and Hanja in this post.
Korean girl groups have been a significant part of the music industry since the 1910s, captivating audiences with their mesmerizing dances and melodious songs. Despite the misconception that girl groups in the past were innocent and cute while modern ones are more focused on sexiness, historical evidence suggests otherwise. In fact, girl groups in the 60s and 70s exuded a similar level of sensuality as contemporary groups, influenced by performances of the 8th U.S. Army stage. The roots of these early girl groups trace back to the singers from Kisaeng schools in the 1930s, showcasing a rich history of diverse influences and styles.
Among the 300 girl groups that emerged between the 1910s and 90s, there were standout representatives from each era that left a lasting impact on the music scene. These unique girl groups not only entertained the public but also paved the way for future generations of performers. By exploring the ancestors of girl groups and the distinctive teams that garnered widespread love and admiration from the 1910s to the 90s, we gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of Korean girl groups and their enduring popularity throughout the decades.
Introduction - Korean Entertainment before the Japanese rule
In my previous post about History of Male Groups' i already spoke about the history of Korea under the Japanese rule (Before liberation), in this post i will explain the history of Kisaeng/ Gisaeng (기생; 妓生), also called Ginyeo (기녀; 妓女).
The concept of Kisaeng, which refers to female entertainers in traditional Korean society, may seem unrelated to the modern phenomenon of Kpop idols. However, it is essential to recognize the historical significance of Kisaeng in shaping the entertainment industry in Korea. While Kisaeng and Kpop idols may differ in many aspects, such as their roles and societal perceptions, they both play a crucial role in providing entertainment to the masses. By understanding the roots of Kisaeng and its influence on Korean culture, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the evolution of entertainment in Korea.
The comparison between Kisaeng and Kpop idols serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage that underpins the Korean entertainment industry. Despite the differences in their practices and contexts, both Kisaeng and Kpop idols share a common goal of captivating audiences through their performances. By acknowledging the historical legacy of Kisaeng, we can better understand the cultural continuity that exists within the realm of Korean entertainment. This recognition allows us to appreciate the diverse influences that have shaped the industry over time, leading to the vibrant and dynamic landscape of Korean entertainment today.
What was a Kisaeng (기생)
Tumblr media
Officials belonging to Gyobangsa during the Korean Empire
Kisaeng (기생), or Ginyeo (기녀), were enslaved women trained to provide artistic entertainment and conversation to upper-class men. They were government's legal entertainers, performing various functions for the state. Despite being of low social class, they were respected as educated artists.
Kisaeng played an important role in Korean conceptions of traditional culture, with some known for outstanding attributes like skill or loyalty. They were also involved in medical care and needlework. Hwang Jini (황진이), a 16th-century Kisaeng, is a famous example.
Tumblr media
Hwang Jini (황진이; 黃眞伊) is a Korean drama broadcast-ed on KBS2 in 2006. The series was based on the tumultuous life of Hwang Jini, who lived in 16th-century Joseon and became the most famous Kisaeng in Korean history.
The Social Position of a Kisaeng
Throughout the Goryeo (고려; 高麗)(918–1392) and Joseon (조선; 朝鮮)(1392–1897) periods, Kisaeng held the status of Cheonmin (천민; 賤民), or "vulgar commoners" were the lowest in society, alongside entertainers, butchers, and slaves. Their status was hereditary, and children of a Kisaeng were also of Cheonmin status. Starting in the Goryeo period, governing offices maintained a registry of Kisaeng to ensure thorough oversight.
Tumblr media
Kisaeng could only be released from their position if a hefty price was paid to the government, typically by a wealthy patron. Many Kisaeng were skilled in poetry, with numerous Sijo (A Korean traditional poetic form that emerged during the Goryeo dynasty, flourished during the Joseon dynasty, and is still written today) composed by them, often reflecting themes of heartache and parting.
They were considered of significantly higher status than common slaves, but held a unique role in ancient Korea's society as educated artists and writers. Different groups or tiers of Kisaeng had different educations and roles, with many specializing in arts, music, poetry, and conversation skills.
The Career of a Kisaeng
The Kisaeng system in Joseon was a short-lived business that typically peaks at age 16 or 17, and over by age 22 with most Kisaeng retiring at age 50. The system was based on a three-tiered structure, with the highest tier occupied by Ilp'ae (일패; 一牌) who sang and danced at upper-class feasts. After turning 30, Kisaeng could continue working in dressmaking and medicine until age 50.
The Haengsu (행수; 行首), the district leader, took charge of discipline and training new Kisaeng. The lowest tier was Samp'ae (삼패; 三牌), who were forbidden to perform the Ilp'ae's songs and dances. The system broke down in the late 19th century, and some Kisaeng were able to amass considerable personal wealth, but they were required to cover their expenses out of their own personal funds.
Tumblr media
Becoming a Kisaeng
The Kisaeng class, a skilled worker class, was established in the Joseon period through various paths. Women were either daughters of Kisaeng or sold into the class by families struggling to support them. The government took an early interest in ensuring correct education, starting with the establishment of Gyobang (교방;敎坊) training institutes during the Goryeo period.
Tumblr media
I did try my best at translating what what below this picture of Kisaeng's. Translation - "Junpo, the custom of giving birth to a prostitute in Korea" (駿婆,生妓俗展國韓). If anyone knows if the translation is wrong, please note it down below.
During the Joseon period, instruction focused on music and dance. The three-tiered system of later Joseon included specialized training schools for Kisaeng, covering poetry, dance, music, and art. This system continued into the Japanese colonial period, during which time the schools training Kisaeng were known as Gwonbeon (권번).
This is what they would of played before the Japanese Colonial Period, i would give it a listen if anyone is interested. Sijo Chang: Chung-san-ri (시조창 청산리)
Tumblr media
WARNING i will be putting a line through any words that could be considered rude to some.
Japanese Colonial Period - 1910 to 1945
The Kisaeng, a caste system in Korea's Neo-Confucian way of living, were considered the lowest caste during the Japanese occupation. They often composed and sang their own Sijo, incorporating their emotions and themes into their work. Hwang Jin-I, a prominent Sijo poet, is credited with a famous Sijo poem, (정산리 벽계수야), which is rumored to be a humorous comeback to a Yangban official who boasted that he could pass through Jin-I’s territory without stopping or being tempted by her. Such elements were not as prevalent in the work of their male counterparts from the same era.
The economic depression during the Japanese occupation exposed the impoverished female population to the labor market. The transition from the Sino-Japanese War to colonial Korea expanded the sex market, leading to new laws such as the Kisaeng Regulation Order or Kisaeng Tansongnyŏng (기생 단속령; 妓生團束令). This led to the Kisaeng being grouped with licensed prostitutes, called Chang-Gi (창기).
During the colonial period, the preexisting tiers of Kisaeng disappeared, and they were more viewed as relevant to prostitution. Most Kisaeng performed in restaurants or entertainment houses to earn a living, and they were often seen as a tourist attraction for the Japanese in Korea, especially Seoul.
Chang Han, a magazine run largely by Kisaeng, discussed the personal lives of Kisaeng in conjunction with their professional ones. Before the Japanese occupation, Kisaeng were of lower caste and able to interact with those of a higher caste. After the occupation, Kisaeng had to actively navigate a restructured sex market in colonial Korea.
Modern Kisaeng
Kisaeng, a traditional Korean dance and theatre scene, has partially preserved its vocabulary and dances since the 1970s. During the Japanese colonial period, Kisaeng schools, which predominated, although true Gwonbeon no longer existed, an academic convention for students to study privately with former entertainers developed. However, few traditional Kisaeng houses remain in South Korea, and many dances are considered lost forever. The oldest traditional house, Ohjinam (오진암), closed in 2010.

In which au people are living. See I'm a jkk and don't belive JK is gonna make out in a MV lol but SK is not a holy country people like to belive it is. I only stan bts but that doesn't mean idk other things happening there. If you come out of the bts bubble you can see multiple artists who had explicit scenes in mvs especially in 2nd gen. Today's 4th gen is so vulnerable to anything like these because 1)most fans are kids 2)idols themselves are kids.
But there are multiple adult artists who had making out and what not in their MVs. Gdragon straight up dry humped his back dance on stage, Taemin had very sensual acts with his back dancer, sunmi had making out MVs, Jay park's MV are explicit as well. Heard of hyuna? Her MVs and Performances while she was part of 'trouble maker' were spicy af, she used to be intimate with Dawn on stage when they were part of Tripple H (this was before their dating announcement ). Oh and the FS you will see, your (as in not you shaz but generally) eyes will pop out watching the level of FS. Male idols used to grind on each other and kiss on stage just to hear some screams.
Korean dramas, not the sweet 2 sec lip press dramas which are so popular, but there are multiple R rated scenes in many dramas, the Han so hee in the question had acted bed room scenes with her co actor multiple times. So yeah 'because it's sk' is out of the question because SK is not what we know through BTS.
Alot of projecting happening with JJKs

So I don’t really care that much about song meaning, but I read some pjms and armys theories and I don’t really understand why dome of them are so against LC being about sex. I am not saying the song is only about that, LC is deep, it’s about escapism etc but when all back up dancer and doing very explicjt sexual moves I think it’s safe to say the meaning it’s connected to carnal please too
Getting this ask today reminded me of this other long ask I got weeks ago and never got around to reply. Finally I went and searched for my face posts 😅
- jimin confirmed on release day that he was inspired by Like Crazy (2011) and never missed any chance to mention this film during promos. so what was he trying to correlate? bear with me ✋
Sex and Alcohol are interchangeable coping mechanisms. both jacob + anna cope with pain of separation by carelessly drinking and having sex. in fact jacob's sex scenes also hold interesting symbolisms regarding intimacy. let's move to anna: she's toxic in wanting to get back with jacob despite being apart for so long. this is reminiscent to how the girl pulls jimin into the dream club and meets him midway the mv. as jm said in the spotify intvw, he's showing how "one loses themselves after a loved one in a Dream". what does it imply? he's yearning for something meaningful to feel complete yet it's unattainable, nor can he stay healthy post loss in Face-Off hence confrontation in the bathroom mirror cuz he's the problem. (the next track 'Alone' is where he accepts his mistake of not properly dealing w/ his complex emotions beforehand.)
the anima theory (which armys/jikookers poorly mutated into a gender crisis) is Jung's belief that man projects his inner desires on his wife/lover. this phenomenon is criticism by psychologists on emotionally stunted man-childs!!? so not only do theories which refuse to address the clear romantic/sexual imagery just plain disingenious but disrespecting jm as well.
he is a hopeless romantic but he referenced a movie about withering relationships here, and how sex is not necessarily love (jacob realizing his sexual compatibility with sam cannot help him move on from anna with whom his attachment is sincere)
i'm not peaking into jm's personal life but im not denying the song's adult concept either. he didnt need to dance such sensual choreo nor refrain teens during the fancall from watching the dance (the backup dancers were having full blown sex) but he did! for he had a story to tell! remember when jm, during encore, said he'll do a modest version of a dance step to pacify jealous fans, it wasnt the group hug intro but the mirror step, which he did with a male dancer instead on stage. jm and karmys had a mutual understanding of what that move signified, and why 1 female dancer was specifically chosen for it in the first place. jm was rightfully teasing them about the whole dance and not just because girls were in it.
---
There's nothing wrong with thinking it's about sex, but there's also nothing wrong with thinking it's not about sex. I mean, Jimin never explicitly said "it's not about sex" or otherwise, but at some point he did use a bed as prop with people all around (over) him. There's also the fact that men embrace him in the original choreo but he didn't think that was appropriate for music shows which would be aired on Korean tv. He also said he wanted the song to have an "ambiguous" feel and honestly, he got that concept very well executed. The song feels like a lot of things at once.
I agree with many points of the second ask, and I think you'd find I said similar stuff when I talked about my own interpretation.
The only thing I disagree with is the last part because it feels -to me- kinda deranged to see something sexual in the mirroring part because there's nothing like that going on. I think Jimin was just joking with the fans, and it was all banter, and that's the easiest part of the choreo to rearrange for fun. I really don't see anything sexual in that part of the choreo.
I don't think I have much more to add at least for now. I re-read my posts and I still feel the same way about the song.
Also this one about set me free because why not 🫡

Whenever they go, san attracts so much attention. Both females and men. he’s the fandom maker, fan fairy. idk i think his aura is really high/bright. i remember a witch said whenever she tries to do a reading for him, san is there as the brightest star, so he mesmerized her…. he oozes so much sensuality and he looks very big and strong. and as it’s human nature, it’s very normal we get attracted to him. he’s so manly and he’s very much aware of his sexsepality. if he was into one night stands, he would be very experienced. tho im seeing a lot of nsfw pages think he’s a fckboy. meanwhile he never give me a feeling that he’s a fckboy. he seems like someone who want an emotional connection before sex. and I also feel like he wouldn’t force his romantic partner and would wait for his partner to be ready before doing it. he seems like his sex drive is very high but still idk he would force his partner instead he would comfort his partner but also would let his partner know his perspective tho idk he’s someone very respectful towards woman, one of the few male idols who support women rights (and got so much hate from korean men bc of it) so i trust this man so much
Honestly, he probably isn’t a fuckboy but I can see where they get it from. Idols can’t safely date, and many companies even have rules against it. So he may sleep with people and have a sort of situationship or friends with benefits that may read as being a fuckboy but it’s the only relationship he can achieve. Though I see those as still being committed. Just very confusing overall

Liyou's interview notes
originally I had planned to transcribe our interview and post it here, but my computer did not catch the interview audio :(. So I will be posting my interview notes in its place.
Liyou (she/her) is my close friend who is also a student at UW. She is Asian American but has lived in both America and Japan. She lived in Japan up until high school. Liyou is also a cosplayer who posts on social media.
_start of interview_
_asked her to first talk about some experiences she has had related to Asian fetishization_
Liyou recounted a time when a guy asked her out. She politely declined because she was not interested and the guy gave her a creepy vibe. When she rejected him, he told her that he only liked her because she was Asian. She thought he had only said that to hurt her, but he started dating another Asian girl two weeks later.
Liyou discussed how men, specifically a certain type of men which she describes as "white guys who like anime", seem to take more interest in her when she would mention that she had previously lived in Japan
Liyou describes the reasoning for men's hyper interest in Asia and Asian women as superficial and stereotypical as they assume Asian and Asian women are like how western media portrays
Liyou describes how she feels Asian women are oversexualized in media. She specifically mentions that Asian women are portrayed as freaky yet submissive, like a sort of sex slave.
Liyou describes her disgust with the normalization of the troupe of a sexually deviant and submissive Asian woman. She describes how western media takes pieces of culture and sexualizes them using the example of a Japanese school girl
Liyou does not like the usage of Japanese school girl uniforms in a sexual manner because she associates those outfits with children and her own experiences of going to school in Japan
I asked Liyou if she felt these stereotypes have effected her dating life and outlook on romance
Liyou says yes because when guys approach her or ask her out she is weary that they only like her for her race due to her experiences
Liyou mentions that these experiences are also not just related to her, she has seen it happen to her mom and friends.
We also discuss modern sites for asian fetishization. has it gone away? or has it just taken another form? I mention ABGs.
Liyou brings up that she feels people have taken to social media to fetishize and objectify not just Asian women, but also Asian men.
Liyou points to Kpop as an example as female fans take their obsession with male kpop idols to a next level by expressing that the only want a Korean guy as a boyfriend.
Liyou finds this ironic because she describes the culture in Korea as one that tends to put first born sons on a pedstal, causing some Korean men to be spoiled and rude. She uses this example to explain that not every Korean man is going to be just like your favorite kpop idol
Liyou also points out how western social media tends to take more of an interest in things simply because they are Asian/from Asia. She uses the example of makeup.
Liyou also feels that social media and the representation of Asian women sets untenable body standards. She feels the need to be shorter and skinnier
Liyou also recounts that people have commented on her boobs and curvy body shape and compares these features to other Asian women, "you have big [insert body part] for an Asian woman" "you are so [body descriptor, ex curvy] for an Asian woman"
Liyou also feels that Asians are used for a sort of appeal due to the sensualization in media. She describes how social media guides for "cute selfies" or "cute poses" will only use East Asians for pose examples. The poses might not be even cute or relevant to the topic but users use East Asians for that sensualization factor.
Liyou also mentions disturbing comments she gets on her social media posts as a cosplayer, with people "faceclaiming" her, or expressing that they want to be Asian like her
I express my confusion for some "faceclaiming" lingo and Liyou describes a whole transracial movement on social media that I've never heard of before
Liyou explains that this transracial movement has users doing facial exercises and manifestations in hopes of making themselves look "more Asian"
