[2024] Korean convenience store|brands, snacks and drinks
Hello, I'm Awesomek.
There are many delicious snacks, drinks, ramen, and food in Korea.
This seems to receive a lot of attention not only from Koreans but also from foreigners.
Let's take a look at the best 5 items that are actively attracting attention on SNS such as Instagram and YouTube!
1. Korean convenience store brands|GS25, EMART24, CU and 7-Eleven
Representatively, there are GS25, CU, 7-ELEVEN, and EMART24 in Korea. The name of the Japanese convenience store FAMILY MART in the past will be changed to CU, and there are more than 55,000 large convenience stores in Korea due to the combination of 7ELEVEN and convenience stores in Korea.
You can also conveniently purchase lunch boxes, ramen, soup, etc. that you can eat on your way to work and when you are hungry on your way to school. Let's take a look at the snacks, ice cream, and lunch boxes sold at each convenience store. Best 5 ITEMS you can recommend at each convenience store!
Well, before that, popular products found in almost all convenience stores include convenience store lunch boxes, gimbap, Binggrae banana milk, cup noodles, almond snacks, and fruit soju. If there's a product you're craving at any convenience store nearby, go get it right away. ????
2. GS25 BEST 5 things to buy|snacks, drinks, food
Products come to other convenience stores, but there are certain products that are released at each convenience store. At GS25, there is Kim Hye-ja's "Hyeja Home-cooked Meal" lunch box series. Among them, the spicy stir-fried pork, which many Koreans don't like or dislike, is popular.
In addition, Kancho Tard, a snack from Lotte, has been launched with mustard cream in mustard snacks. Also, Belgian deep chocolate latte, which is coated with Belgian chocolate in chocolate snacks, is one of the popular pb products, so if you're a chocolate lover, give it a try.
Next is the collaboration of Omori Kimchi Stew + Geopchang Spicy Ramen, which I've loved for a long time. If Omori Kimchi goes together with Geopchang Ramen, the best meal for hangover is completed. It's Omori kimchi jjigae with instant noodles that comes to mind again after eating.
Convenience store tteokbokki reminds me of tteokbokki, but I often use it when I want to eat it quickly. It's an easy item to try because you can put ingredients in it and microwave it. This Mapcal Fish Cake Tteokbokki is a GSPb product with sauce, so I think it will be a satisfying meal with a lot of ingredients

a protest was held following the lenient ruling of the misogynist attacker in the Jinju convenience store case (more info posted previously here). The sentence was less than requested by the prosecution and the violence was somehow not recognized as a hate crime even though the man attacked this woman specifically because he believed she was a feminist.

East Asian literature/movies/shows I've been currently enjoying:
The housekeeper and the professor (or my preferred title: Professor's beloved equation) by Yöko Ogawa – Japanese slice of life (find my short review here)
My neighbor Totoro by Studio Ghibli
Revenge: Eleven dark tales by Yöko Ogawa – slice of life-ish horror, truly grew on me
First Love: Hatsukoi – slice of life Japanese romance (find my analysis here), best thing I’ve ever watched
Little Forest – Korean slice of life movie, lots of food shots
Something in the rain – Korean slice of life romance
If cats disappeared from the world by Genki Kawamura – Japanese slice of life meets Goethe's Faust (but executes the trope better)
The guest cat by Takashi Hiraide – the most slice of life book I've read, very meditative
When the weather is fine – korean slice of life romance (find my posts about it here and here)
The Memory Police by Yöko Ogawa – dystopian fiction (if you enjoyed Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury you'll love that too)
I will be your bloom – Japanese... I don't even know how to describe the genre, it was wild, weird and wonderful, but won’t be everyone’s cup of tea
Sweet bean paste by Durian Sukegawa – Japanese slice of life, excellent in every detail
Your eyes tell – Japanese drama/romance – it wrecked me thank you very much, can't recommend it enough
Please look after my mom by Kyung-sook Shin – Korean drama, very emotional
Norwegian wood by Haruki Murakami – Japanese romance, psychological drama, but I wouldn’t call it a favorite
Crash course in romance – Korean rom com, quite enjoyable and fun to watch, really adorable and funny
Nowhere to be found by Bae Suah – a parabolic slice of life short story
Walking Practice by Dolki Min – a horror existential story about being human, not for everyone (tbh not really for me, but I was the editor of the translated version in my country)
Summer strike – aesthetic, calming and full of kdrama (fits the canon 100%), if it wasn’t for the murder case it would be perfect
Turn to me, Mukai-kun – honestly it felt like 90% of the characters on that show were either aro, ace or both and I’m so here for it
The setting sun by Osamu Dazai – a classic when it comes to today’s Japanese literature, I see the value of the story, but didn’t love it as I thought I would
Diary of a Void by Emi Yagi – weird, creepy at times, both comforting and confusing, gave me the same kind of chills as Revenge by Yōko Ogawa
Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata – an amazing short story about intolerance, surface level relationships and the incredible mechanism where men feel entitled to use women both when they conform to social expectations and when they decide to live against them
Doctor slump – heartwarming and emotional, I laughed, I cried, despite being a romance it had a great plot line about mental illnesses
Welcome to Samdal-ri – for everyone who feels overwhelmed by the world and needs a place to return to, very emotional, I cried like a baby more than once, would watch three more seasons of it

While Kit Kat may have slowed down production of new and experimental flavors of late, Cup Noodle seems to have stepped it up as I found interesting options hitting shelves in both Japan and Singapore on my last trip. The first one I tried upon coming home was “Cup Noodle Hot Stone Bibimbap: Sweet & Sour Gochujang Flavor”, which, unfortunately, was really nothing special. Could have achieved the same flavor profile, and maybe more heat, by adding a tablespoon of actual gochujang into a normal Cup Noodle. The chunks of beef and pieces of kimchi you see in the pic there were non-existent. A swing and miss for Nissin on this one, IMO.

pardon the poor quality and mess but as you can tell i love: eggs (gotta have them in as many different ways as possible - soy cured yolks. miso cured yolks. mayak eggs. onsen eggs. i always prep a new batch of all four of these every week. ikura. tobikko. ebikko. mentaiko. salted eggs. century eggs. quail eggs. all the eggs. i have to have more than five varieties at any one time...); sauces (i LOVE spicy food and since i started working out of southeast asia i've been collecting sambals and sauces and people keep gifting them to me and this is only like HALF of my sauce collection....); candy and ice-cream.
also my necessities are always: rice (i don’t care what tiktok and studies*~*~ tell me i keep like two tupperwares of rice - one in the fridge one in the freezer, one jasmine rice one koshihikari - so i can have just reheat it quick and have rice with my dishes/make onigiri), natto, dashi (i always make a tupperware of it during the weekend so i can just take it out to make miso soup/tamogayaki/dashichazuke/tsuyu) + pickles (especially cucumbers and radishes) + cream cheese (honestly. sometimes i'm rushing too much/too lazy and disgusting about it to even toast bread so i eat it by the spoonful asdfghjk. my new fave is buldak cream cheese which one of my neighbours made for me... so good... life changing.)
also sometimes i keep some facemasks in the side compartment as a treat :'). and yes all my meats are processed and frozen meats. living alone again makes me so lazy, it's just not worth the effort to clean and prep and cook my own meats so i just buy them on the way home/just fry/roast frozen meats. those beef nuggets are BOMB by the way. it's like a mini hamburger patty with a crumb crust, a little like tiny menchikatsu)
i’m SO curious about the different things people around the world drink and eat and keep in the fridge to make meals with so could you please reblog this with photos of the inside of your fridge and freezer
#prev... your parents' food is so good... i would like photos. for me. and possibly if you could fly them over to me i would not complain.#also i LOVE looking at people's kitchens and pantries and fridges#op if you're interested in stuff like this#there's r/fridgedetective. many germans there for some reason i don't know why but i enjoy looking at the stuff they have#and korean cooking-type variety shows are a good source too#there's 냉장고를부탁해 (please take care of my fridge)#where they lug people's fridges into the studio and ooh and aahh and assess the contents and help clean them up#and then make food based on what's in the fridges#and there's also 신상출시편스토랑 where you get to follow celebs around at home#as they try to come up with dishes that could get sold at convenience stores#when i create my tinder competitor dating app where you swipe left/right#based on their fridge photos........

"Feminists Deserve to Be Beaten": Jinju Convenience Store Assault Recognized as 'Misogynistic Crime' by Court
published Oct 15th
this article is originally in Korean and has been mtl and edited into English here. it’s not going to be 1:1 but the basic info should be there, if you see any discrepancies though lmk and I’ll edit it asap. thanks everyone for your continued help and understanding.
On October 15th, the appellate court ruled that the assault of a female convenience store worker in Jinju was motivated by "unfounded hatred against women." The court's decision overturned the initial ruling, which did not recognize misogyny as a motive, marking the first time in South Korea that misogyny was acknowledged as a valid and condemnable motive in a crime.
The Changwon District Court's Criminal Division 1, led by Chief Judge Lee Joo-yeon, upheld the three-year prison sentence for a man in his 20s, referred to as Mr. A, who was charged with special injury, property damage, and interference with business. The court rejected appeals from both the prosecution and the defendant.
In November of last year, Mr. A assaulted a female worker, Ms. B, at a convenience store in Jinju, and also attacked a man in his 50s, Mr. C, who tried to intervene. The investigation revealed that Mr. A targeted Ms. B because she had short hair, saying, "You're a feminist, so you deserve to be beaten." As a result of the assault, Ms. B permanently lost hearing in her left ear and now requires a hearing aid for life. Mr. C, who suffered a bone fracture and other injuries requiring three weeks of recovery, later lost his job and faced financial difficulties, ultimately being recognized as a meritorious person by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
In April, the first trial court had acknowledged that Mr. A was suffering from bipolar disorder and was possibly in a state of diminished capacity during the incident, based on evaluations from the National Forensic Hospital and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's forensic division. The court sentenced him to three years in prison, considering his misogynistic remarks as evidence of his mental state but not as a motive for the crime.
However, the appellate court disagreed, stating, "Mr. A's crime was driven by unfounded hatred and prejudice against women, making it a condemnable motive. His continued false claim that Ms. B attacked him first raises doubts about his remorse." The court did acknowledge some shortcomings in the original ruling, such as the characterization of Mr. A's bizarre act of putting Ms. B's phone in a microwave as evidence of his diminished capacity, but found that the prosecution had not sufficiently disproven his mental state.
The victim's side expressed disappointment that the sentence remained the same despite recognizing Mr. A's diminished capacity. However, they emphasized the social significance of this being the first legal precedent in South Korea to classify misogyny as a criminal motive. Activist "Solidarity D," who supports sexual violence victims, stated, "This ruling is the first to recognize misogyny as a motive worthy of condemnation. In the past, defendants would use misogyny to argue for diminished responsibility, but now it can be considered a motive that warrants harsher punishment."
Attorney Lee Kyung-ha, representing Ms. B, said, "While it's regrettable that the sentence remained unchanged, the recognition that the defendant's misogynistic behavior, including his statement 'feminist women deserve to be beaten,' constituted a condemnable motive is significant. This sets a precedent that may deter defendants from using misogyny as a basis for claims of diminished responsibility in the future."

I’m just going to ramble about Pearl boy, Painter of the night & The dangerous convenience store here! Save me making multiple posts!
So, they have returned to us 🤭 my precious Nakyum and his man Seungho, I’m so pleased my Friday was empty without them 😭 but I do hope the author is fully recovered and healthy!
The way In-hun literally badmouthed Seungho and then tried to assault Nakyum 😤 as if my baby hasn’t gone through enough already! However, Seungho isn’t the only one who’s seriously developed, Nakyum has gone through some development too. The way he slapped In-hun for badmouthing Seungho, and then when he tried to assault him he fought back 😩 I was so proud!
The way these two care about each other 😭 my heart can’t take it, I’m hoping for happiness to ever be in their lives! I think the author did say they will have a happy ending, I do hope that’s true!
Pearl boy be continuing to give me heartburn ❤️🔥 like all this pain!
The way Pilwon gave Dooshik an opportunity to either spare Jooha pain or cripple him is crazy! He was like “jump off the cliff and I won’t shoot Jooha or run away and I’ll still spare him but I’ll cripple him for life” 😭 and Dooshik the sweetheart who will do anything for Jooha! Though scared was literally about to take the leap, but Jooha rushes Pilwon and takes them both off the balcony edge.
So, Jooha is falling with Pilwon, and basically accepting his fate! When Dooshik jumps in after them, and they’re hugging under water and again I think they were both just accepting their fate. However, an angelic light shaped like a manta ray pulls them from the depths, and that ray of light is none other than Daehwi! He saved them, and was basically like “dude you can’t die yet you have to tell me where my brother is” 😂🤣 once again Daehwi’s love for his brother saves the day!
It’s the way he was trying to wake him up with a punch 😂🤣!
Moving on, The dangerous convenience store the manhwa that was feeding me wholesomeness, to counteract the trauma and pain from Pearl boy! Just got a lil angsty!
Gunwoo has been hurt 😔 I should have seen this coming with his job! It’s the way Euijoon was thinking about Gunwoo, and how he wants to tell him he likes him 😭 but Gunwoo is bleeding in a car park! Pain!
