Watching Konoha & Hazuki's magical girl story and really enjoying it so far! It has a good balance of humor along with some genuinely touching moments.

Something I was thinking about was that Konoha's struggles with Ayame growing up kind of reminds me of what happens to some mothers when their kids grow up and leave the house. So much of Konoha's life is about keeping their little family safe and secure-- from managing financials to obsessing over Ayame's safety. It points out that Konoha doesn't have any hobbies which... girl....

IIRC, Konoha had one of the sadder orphan backstories. I think Ayame was abandoned as a child and Hazuki's parents got into a car accident, but Konoha's father was outright pretty cruel to her. In fact let me get some screenshots...

(Note that Konoha says "everything started to go wrong after I was born" because that's what her own father would tell her to her face)

On one hand I think that it's very sweet that she's acting the opposite of her father towards Ayame, who is kind of her sister but honestly treated like a daughter by her-- she doesn't blame Ayame for anything, she's super supportive, and she takes active interest in making sure that Ayame is happy.

But it also makes me very sad. She doesn't want to go through what her father went through, she wants to keep everyone she loves safe, but that's resulted in her being isolated. She's been so focused on surviving that she hasn't really been living, you know?

Anyways I think the magical girl story is really good and I'm happy that Konoha got a second shot at a MGS. It's been a long-ass time since I read her og MGS but I remember disliking it because it was just making jokes about how bad her cooking is instead of seriously delving into her character.

I also really like Hazuki in this, but so far she's taken a bit of a backseat-- which imo is kind of fine. Watching Hazuki support Konoha and help her develop possible hobbies (taking a walk, practicing photography) is very nice too.

Although now that I said it out loud, maybe there's a line being drawn here how both Konoha and Hazuki care very very much about their family, with Hazuki's being slightly healthier but still a lil obsessive? I dunno, I need to actually finish watching haha.
