Naruto Episode Comments, Ep. 1-20
(Context: I know a lot of the character’s names and some of the big plot points, but I’m going in blind otherwise)
Ep 1:
-Naruto is kinda annoying but also he’s just a lil gremlin and I can respect that
-I kinda love Iruka. Also he’s hot.
-”Clone jutsu? That’s my worst jutsu!” says Naruto, known for his Shadow Clone jutsu
-there’s just something so charming about the old anime style (but also some of the expressions are so goofy)
-HOLY SHIT IRUKA IS A REAL ONE
-I don’t trust the Hokage. I don’t really have a concrete reason for this yet, but his vibes are off
-oooh Irukaaaaa you’re so sexy for not being an asshole to the traumatized child
-oh I guess Shadow Clone jutsu is different from regular clones so disregard my earlier comment
-honestly this was a better first episode than I was expecting. I’m sold!
Ep 2:
-Naruto continues to be a lil gremlin
-Naruto pls for the love of god stop using your stupid ass “sexy jutsu”
-the Hokage really has had enough of these little kids and honestly I can’t even blame him
-I love the voice of Konohamaru’s trainer (I’m watching dub btw), it’s so pompous
-I love the ninja sandals. I want a pair.
-I like that Naruto’s voice actually sounds childish. It’s a tad bit grating sometimes but I think I’ll get used to it quickly
-STOP IT WITH THE SEXY JUTSU
-STOPPPPPP
-anyways #KonohamaruForHokage
Ep 3:
-again, the ninja sandals are so fucking drippy
-Ino wtf is up with your outfit. Why is half of it bandages
-the amount of sheer passive-aggressiveness in these 12 year old girls-
-Naruto has a crush on Sakura at first???? I didn’t know that lol
-Sasuke does not give a singular shit about anything other than his brooding and tbh I didn’t expect anything less
-Sakura’s little inner monologue is so feral lmao
-I don’t like Sasuke’s voice so far. It’s monotone, but not in an edgy way, just in a kinda dull way? Also he doesn’t really sound like a kid
-no hate to Shikamaru but his ponytail looks painful. My scalp hurts just looking at it
-oh my god not Sakura ragging on Naruto for being an orphan-
-lmao the amount of fucking drama with this team of kids is crazy
-why are the Hokage and Kakashi just casually breaking into Naruto’s home to look around
-rip Naruto’s bowels
Ep 4:
-I was not expecting Kakashi to sound like that but I’m kinda here for it actually
-oh I can already tell I’m gonna hate how the female characters are written in this show. Sakura honey I’m so sorry
-I know Sasuke’s got trauma or whatever but god he’s so fucking edgy. “I hate most things and I don’t like anything” bitch just say your favorite food or something
-oh my god Naruto is so tiny compared to Kakashi
-ok I already see why people love Kakashi so much
Ep 5:
-Kakashi is raining hell down on these children and I’m so here for it
-Kakashi is so COOL
-fucking “HEADHUNTER JUTSU” is the most metal name for a jutsu
-“you think like little kids” says Kakashi to the 12 year olds
-Kakashi really didn’t need to give his “you failed” monologue while pinning Sasuke to the ground. Bro was just doing it to assert dominance lmao
-I know that Sasuke’s reasoning for sharing is logical and not because he cares about Naruto, but I like that he offers his food to Naruto first
-aw the squad is starting to squad just a teeny tiny bit
Ep 6:
-booooo Naruto is a cat hater :(
-I love that Naruto is shorter than Sakura
-I like that we get some worldbuilding early on (also I’m a sucker for a good map so the scene explaining the different regions was cool)
-okay Sasuke is a badass
-Kakashi is also a badass but I already knew that
-I love how chill Kakashi is about literally everything
Ep 7:
-Kakashi is so over the bridge builder guy’s bullshit
-I do wish there was more of a sense of scale regarding how far apart the different locations are, since I have no idea how far away from Konoha the Land of Waves actually is
-okay I was NOT expecting Zabuza to fucking THROW HIS GIANT CLOUD STRIFE SWORD LIKE A BOOMERANG???
-Zabuza 🤝 Kakashi
not wearing their headbands correctly
-I like Zabuza’s voice
-the sharingan doesn’t make that much sense to me in terms of how it works but I’ll just chalk it up to anime logic
EP 8:
-oh the Water Prison jutsu is kinda terrifying to think about
-I can’t get over Zabuza’s fuckin armwarmer thingies
-ah yes gotta love the choppy old anime fight animation
-between Kakashi and Zabuza, Sasuke really cannot get a break from being pinned to the ground
-the demon wind shuriken is so sick-looking
-okay good on Naruto and Sasuke for working together but couldn’t they have given Sakura something to do
Ep 9:
-binging this makes the flashbacks at the beginning of episodes very annoying
-oh Kakashi is fucking PISSED
-shoutout to whoever animated all the hand signs for the jutsus holy shit
-yeah Kakashi would be so annoying to fight ngl
-Sakura is constantly calling Naruto out on his bullshit and that’s the kind of hater behavior I’m here for
-the soundtrack is hitting different this episode
-wow Naruto really saw another kid kill a man and got immediate imposter syndrome lmao
Ep 10:
-I like Haku’s painted nails
-aw Kakashi is actually a really encouraging teacher
-how is Naruto so bad with chakra control and yet was able to master Shadow Clone jutsu????
-Kakashi casually defying gravity to walk up a tree with his crutches was actually kinda hilarious to me for some reason
-I’m still not sold on Sasuke’s voice. There are moments when it’s fine but otherwise it’s just so stiff
-YAY FOR SAKURA GETTING A WIN OVER THE BOYS
-aw Naruto encouraging Sakura was cute (even though he was salty about her beating him)
-I like the difference that’s set up between having a lot of chakra (like Naruto) versus good chakra control (like Sakura)- hopefully this means people are going to go about how they train and fight differently
-Naruto asking Sakura for advice and asking her not to tell Sasuke anything was actually kinda endearing lol
Ep 11:
-dumb question maybe but if Gato is so against the bridge being built and he has the resources to hire a bunch of goons, why doesn’t he just bomb the bridge or something
-ah yes Sakura discovers poverty
-Sasuke is slowly growing on me. He’s very awkward
-Sakura I’m so sorry you have to deal with those two idiots as teammates
-holy fuck Inari’s backstory with Kaiza was darker than I thought it would be
-also rip Kaiza you were a real one
Ep 12:
-lmao not Naruto thinking Haku is prettier than Sakura fjfhshhajasisa-
-aw Sasuke helping Naruto walk home after training was nice, there’s definitely very slight development happening in their relationship as rivals
-Kakashi’s talk with Inari was a really nice moment
Ep 13:
-I like the way Haku talks. It’s very impassive and mysterious
-I’m always a fan of when the MC inspires literally everyone around them and Naruto is no exception
-Haku’s painted nails continue to slay (also I realized his toenails are painted too)
-the needles Haku fights with are really cool-looking but also seem really impractical
-YEAHHHHH NARUTO TIME
-aw Kakashi is proud of his kids
-goddamn Haku is so cool
Ep 14:
-I’m only thinking about this now but did Naruto never wonder why he had a big seal on his stomach
-literally half this episode was recap which was kinda annoying
-Naruto I love you but you’re so stupid
Ep 15:
-I really wish they gave Sakura more to do in this fight. I get that Kakashi’s the only one who can take Zabuza and that we need to see Naruto and Sasuke fighting together, but Sakura is kinda just standing there the whole time
-Haku needs to go to therapy ASAP
-I’m still confused about how Kakashi’s sharingan works tbh
Ep 16:
-aw yeah baby Sasuke sharingan time
-aw yeahhhh Sasuke saving Naruto
-god fucking dammit I think Sasuke is my favorite Team 7 member and I hate that for me
-oh boy Naruto is about to go apeshit
-also there is no way in hell anyone watching this actually believed Sasuke died
Ep 17:
-geez the animation quality really went up this episode
-yeah Haku’s backstory is just as tragic as I thought it would be but also Jesus Christ his relationship with Zabuza is so fucked up
-I’m very curious as to why Kakashi has the sharingan if it’s a bloodline trait of the Uchiha clan (and also why he only has it in one eye)
-Kakashi summoning fucking dogs was so random but also hell yeah doggies
-andddd Kakashi’s a lightningbender? I thought the sharingan was his main thing but apparently not
-Haku PLEASE go to therapy
Ep 18:
-this show’s soundtrack has actually been so good so far
-so like was Naruto actually gonna kill Haku before Haku stopped him
-oh FUCK rip Haku (also first real-time death of the series!)
-Kakashi closing Haku’s eyes and saving his body was nice, you can tell that he feels bad about him dying even though he was on Zabuza’s side
-also they didn’t hold back on the blood, goddamn
-I like that the bridge builder seems to have a bit of a soft spot for Sakura since she’s been with him the most
Ep 19:
-Gato is literally so fucking disgusting I need him dead ASAP
-Kakashi wrangling Naruto back from attacking Gato was kinda funny
-ah yes the big Shonen Protagonist Speech™ from Naruto
-Zabuza’s last hurrah was fucking epic, I really like how his and Haku’s story ended (also the line “where he’s going, I cannot follow” about Zabuza joining Haku in the afterlife was metal). I like that Zabuza got a last moment of humanization
-aw Naruto is such a wholesome, determined lil guy
-oh Naruto is gonna be so insufferable when he finds out the bridge is named after him
Ep 20:
-HELL YEAH CHUNIN EXAM TIMEEEE IM SO EXCITED
-wow Naruto is really out here fantasizing about being Sasuke’s knight in shining armor
-Sasuke is a cocky little shit but also he’s technically right about Naruto and Sakura being “worse” than him
-so far Sakura’s biggest fight has been her beating up fuckin Konohamaru
-SAND SIBLINGS SPOTTED!!!
-I don’t like Temari’s voice

gonna go ahead and crack pandora’s wasp nest open here—how could naruto have been good/how would u have written it
*begins chewing at my restraints and rips the iron door of my containment unit off its hinges* okay so the SHORT version is that naruto should have ENDED ssssomewhere around the Pain arc, maybe throw in one more, could probably keep..tobi...if you just make it WAY less convoluted, but. like that's it that's the wrap up on the lesson of NINJAS ARE HUMAN WEAPONS IN THE ARSENAL OF ENDLESS WAR. You can get maybe ONE more amp up, but the actual story did like 40, because it's shonen. Also Naruto could have had at least a LITTLE thought put into how he was like. raised. there is so much retroactive storytelling in this manga but apparently naruto has just been living in an apartment off his government provided milk and ramen since he was an infant. Maybe make me give a shit about Sarutobi by having had him go and bottle feed the demon baby or SOMETHING. Is Jiraiya the deadbeat sending child support checks or something? It's extremely hard to have Naruto exist at all as he is the second you put any thought into his childhood- which is why GAARA EXISTS. THAT'S NARUTO WITH 6 SECONDS OF THOUGHT. GIVE THAT BOY A FRIEND TO EXPLAIN HOW HE'S SO PEPPY!! SOME SORT OF GUARDIAN FIGURE BEFORE HE'S 12, Iruka could Almost count if he didn't act like he barely knew the little guy. Teacher Watches Orphan Go To Empty Home While Sad Flute Song Plays and says: Fuck that little kid, cant stand him, oh shit wait the author realized he needs one (1) parental figure in order to not lose his mind okay here i c Anyway, besides all that. Well for one thing Sasuke is RIGHT. Fuck Konoha! And the Government! did you see what they did to his clan!!! That one dude fucking HARVESTED them!! So you have little renegade fuck the system baby, and "If I'm king president I can fix all the problems!" baby. Good end: Naruto goes damn maybe u right and we should make some steps to try and alter the cycle of war and death and genetic eyeball supremacy. Neji voice: yeah i taught you all about weird bloodline family shit, remember that?? Bad end: The Entire Rest Of Naruto and Boruto, And No One Learned Anything. Also, the retroactive addition of GODS and PROPHECY anD REINCARNATION and MORE BLOODLINE SUPER WIZARD POWERS is so. Lame, Boring, Snore. Giving naruto a special baby background DESTROYS the fact he's kind of a nobody! He's just some kid with ONE skill he worked really hard on and he uses it in order to hack his way into doing all the other stuff he wants to do!! His only boon is haaving a LOT of energy to burn and STUBBORNNESS!! Screams in ADHD child Haku, Gaara, the Akatsuki/Orochimaru, and Pain. Are all good. Those are the arcs that stay and every one of them has a PRETTY STRONG POINT point about what happens when you smash children into little nukes. Eats that with a spoon. (PS JIRAIYA WHAT THE FUCK WHY DID YOU LEAVE THOSE INFANTS IN A WAR Z) Oh also there's a lot to be said on how to rewrite uhhh literally Any of the women characters into relevancy because as they are rn they barely even count as such. But if i talk about that I would be here for the entire rest of the y- IMAGINE IF SAKURA'S FUCKING MEDICAL JUTSU MEANT ANYTHING!! WHAT IF SHE COULD HAVE BEEN USEFUL AGAINST KONAN BECAUSE SHE CAN SEE ALL HER NERVES IN HER HORRIFYING PAPER FLESH NO JUTSU, SOMETHING, ANYTHING, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *i am dragged back into my cell*

now as for Sakura propaganda.... (This will be like swinging a bat on a hornet’s nest but Naruto fandom frustrate me so much I can no longer be silenced)
Don't get me wrong, that girl has plenty of flaws, but given how much the fandom hate her over equally or even more flawed characters, the hate towards her get pretty excessive, and hypocritical at times.
Now for the list of reasons people hate her... flip list
1- That she never became as "badass" and overpowered as Sasuke and Naruto... nevermind that the power levels at the end were a farce and that by the end nobody could hope to match up the uuhhh chosen by the prophecy descendants of ninja goddess and reincarnations of overpowered DBZ-level characters. And that it's a gap no characters, even those more experienced and talented and with better bloodlines could hope to close. She's the one most bashed over that for some reason that escapes me.
2- on the same branch, people loathe her for not inventing new jutsu at the ripe age of 16 yo, nevermind that she couldn’t possibly have found the time to do that in 3 years in between learning the entire medical curriculum and keeping up with her combat training.
3- somehow more hated than Shimura Danzou, fans will sing praises of Itachi being a martyr and Naruto being perfect for Sasuke while hating Sakura to the core
4- the "Sakura is obsessive about her imagined version of Sasuke and doesn't really treat him as a person" may be true, but then they go and treat SNS as like the purest most wholesome ship ever as if... Naruto... didn't do… exactly the same.
Naruto who obsess over his imagined version of Sasuke and find himself terribly inconvenienced whenever Sasuke has goals or wants that don’t involve staying within the village or staying the cut-in-cardboard school rival he wants Sasuke to be.
He will go on saying he will drag Sasuke back to the village against his will even if he has to break every single bone of his. Supposedly love Sasuke for who he is and somehow agree with Itachi’s demand of keeping the truth about the slaughter of Sasuke’s entire clan, and can’t believe Sasuke would not want to go back to the village who persecuted and genocided his clan. Never listen to Sasuke’s words and story and go on about Sasuke having a darkness and evilness that Sasuke disagree with Naruto over staying in the village because must be Fixed. By Him (Naruto).
The Naruto and Sasuke ship/dynamic will go on to be eternally praised by most Naruto fans despite it being yikes at best, they will display self-awareness of how toxic some of SNS behaviors are only when it come to bashing rival ships.
5- After Sai basically guilt her for not returning Naruto's feelings and asking him years ago to get back Sasuke, she will act rashly to fix this. The fandom will go on to hate simultaneously "Sakura not caring about Naruto's feelings" (that she didn't know about) and "Sakura desperately trying to make up for efforts she believe Naruto made for her in any way she possibly can, including prentending to have romantic feelings for him and doing her hardest to get over her affection for Sasuke, including proactively going to try to murder him."
Now as for things I actually like about Sakura.
I find her personality refreshing, and it would have been an interesting main character, the orphan who had little to no positive relationships and close people to begin with aside from Iruka , the boy who had a beloved family and clan and who experienced love, family and happiness before having it ripped away from him and the spoiled sheltered ignorant girl all make for different and complimentary and IMPORTANT perspectives on the different types of people growing within Konoha, within the ninja continent period. and how they all clash with one another. She has an abrasive personality, often says things thoughtlessly, and her trying to wrestle with how powerless/useless she feels and actively and proactively trying to make up for her flaws when made aware of them.
She often grapple with stuff like in-universe misogyny, including coping with them in all the wrongs ways, like believing she has to nab herself a man (Sasuke) and act all submissive in front of him due to the belief that her being desirable as a girl is a priority, all of point 5, and fandom reacting as if Sakura's personality exist in a vaccuum and that can't possibly come from internalizing stuff constantly said in-universe, nevermind all appearing characters constantly say and think sexist bullshit, and that she has to be a representation and icon of all in-universe and out-of-universe women instead of a character with her own characteristics.
Which makes fandom tend to "fix her" by stripping all that makes Sakura herself in fics in order to make her more palatable.

Rini's Bio || Part 2/?
Tumblr media
Background
Very rough draft, Ill come back and fix/add things as needed. :D
A couple years prior to Rini’s birth, during the years of the Third Shinobi World War,  her mother Kohana stumbled upon a young Konan, who was eight years old, alone in the war-torn streets. Despite the dangers and scarcity of resources, Kohana took Konan under her wing, becoming a surrogate guardian and protector. Together, they came upon Yahiko.
Meanwhile, Nagato, newly orphaned, found solace in the companionship of Ryuu, another lost child wandering the desolate streets in search of sustenance and shelter. Drawn together by their shared lineage, Nagato and Ryuu formed a bond naming themselves brothers.
Amidst the scarcity and turmoil of war, Kenji was deployed on the battlefield, Kohana took care of both Yahiko and Konan and eventually found Ryuu and Nagato as well, while they were scavenging for essentials amidst the ravaged streets. Their chance encounters led to the formation of an unconventional family unit. 2 years later, Kenji returns home and Kohana gives birth to Ryuu’s daughter, Rini.
Rini grew close to the Amegakure trio, often playing with them before they went off to be trained by Jiraiya. Once returning, forming the first and original Akatsuki.
From the moment Rini could speak, her grandfather Kenji Sasaki, taught and trained Rini in medical ninjutsu, biology, chemistry and other related sciences and medical disciplines.
At the age of five. Her parents, along with Yahiko and the rest of the original Akatsuki, lost their lives due to Hanzo’s attack, leaving Rini to be left in the care of her grandfather, Kenji, as well as Nagato and Konan.
For several years, Kenji sent Rini to the various wild forests that surrounded the rain village, where beasts ripped apart other beasts and their young while she was required to treat them medically to advance her medical ninjutsu.
Rini at six, started at the ninja academy. On a walk home, she noticed something troubling on her way with her grandfather: an exchange happening between a child and adults. Concerned, she asked her father about it, but he urged her to stay quiet to avoid trouble.
During one of these walks alone, Rini spotted a girl from her class, Anna, with her mom, looking uncomfortable around a strange man. Rini confronts them, the man is unintimidated and announces he will just take Rini. When Kenji shows up, his look alone scares the man off. This incident led to Rini and Anna becoming friends.
Under Konan's tutelage, Rini's training began, earning her the respect of her peers with her natural talents. Rini experienced a life free of bullying for her academy years, she was quite popular amongst her peers and was well-liked, making friends easily, particularly with the boys as several girls would point out to her. This caused little friction at a more innocent age, but as she grew older, she would notice the view would shift more negatively. The teasing that she was a pretty face which garnered attention would shape her to realize females tend to view her differently, on occasion, as a threat.
After graduating from the academy at nine, she is placed on a 4-man team with a couple kids who were 2 years older than her and also considered prodigies. They were sent to Konohagakure with “Madara” as their sensei disguised as ‘Nagi-sensei,’ (A man native to Konoha, whom he had killed to take his place and get the kids easier access to the village.)
Being transferred to Konoha, Rini quickly befriends Shisui, a boy her age from the Uchiha clan. As it was originally meant as a ploy for her mission which was effectively an undercover mission to spy on Konoha shinobi, students and civilians alike. The true mission was Rini’s: To spy on the Uchiha, its movements and its people.
Despite this, Rini’s friendship with Shisui and growing friendship with her younger peers, Itachi and Izumi, were always true in her heart. She is trained by ‘Madara’ during these years, becoming a Chuunin at 11, a Jonin at 14, then finally an ANBU at 15.
Through the years, Izumi was a good friend to her, and was Rinis only female friend in the village, as her friendly nature became perceived quickly as flirtatious behavior, and her reputation became more skewed as she became closer with men; older men specifically. The once innocent teasing she endured in Amegakure, became more ruthless and vicious as false rumors swirled of a young girl fooling around with adults.
Under Shisui’s captainship in the ANBU, Rini is tasked by ‘Madara’ to spy on Danzo and uncover his motives and where Konoha’s true intentions were in regards to the ever growing strain between Uchiha and the village. Despite their closeness, Itachi and Shisui’s secret meetings were kept hidden from Rini. She spied on them as necessary, providing crucial details back to ‘Madara.’ As tensions escalated and the Uchiha faced persecution, Rini's concerns for her friends, Shisui, Itachi and Izumi grew.
Unbeknownst to Rini, Danzo, being keen on sniffing out rats, was suspicious of Rini and her arrival to the village, her and her teammates' story moved the heart of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen, but he is not one to be played for a fool. He had an eye on their movements for a while, which eventually only came down on her when she, to his surprise, quickly outranked her other two team members. Becoming a Jonin and being taken on as an ANBU under Shisui's recommendation had him task his own son, Kyousuke, to keep an eye on Rini and her movements, knowing she could full well be a spy, therefore a threat to Konoha.
Tragedy struck with news of Shisui’s death, leaving Rini grappling with grief and uncertainty. Afterwards, 'Madara' began communicating with Itachi through Rini, leading to secret meetings that troubled her. Eventually leading to Rini handing Itachi a scroll from 'Madara,' unaware of its contents, unaware it contained details of 'Madara’s' intentions to aid Itachi in the Uchiha massacre.
At the age of sixteen, Rini returned to Amegakure, after the Uchiha massacre. Unbeknownst to her, Itachi found her sobbing on a rooftop, consumed by grief for his misdeeds which later leads to him forging a more trusting bond with her.
Proceeding the Uchiha downfall, Rini returns to Amegakure. Following after, when Rini is sixteen, the news of the death of Anna, she seeks revenge for her, knowing that outsiders were trafficking in her village and she had perished after being sold off. Through knowledge that Konan was seeking to take over a small but powerful village, Rini requests to be placed on an undercover mission as a training courtesan with the intention of finding the main source of trafficking/business exchange and to take it down. Konan held off on her request with the intention of sending someone else to conquer this village for the Akatsuki. Seeing as the village’s main source of income came from its entertainment, destroying it would leave it open to taking over, to create Akatsuki’s first satellite village.
However, after some deliberation, ‘Madara’ and Nagato agree that Rini’s training best suits the delicate and refined nature of the mission and should be the one to go.
Once there, she is immediately made into a courtesan, rather than one in training, due to the traditional ideas that she was already a woman. This leads to her only having undergone training for about 6 weeks. Rini started her short apprenticeship with Oiran Eru in Akachōchingakure (あかちょうちん隠れの里) Akachōchingakure no Sato, literally meaning: Village Hidden Among the Red Lanterns).
By seventeen, in the world of village politics, Rini's goes from a skilled courtesan to a revered oiran, marked by cunning maneuvers and calculated deception. Her striking beauty was matched only by her cunning and intelligence, making her a formidable player in the complex game of power. With deft manipulation and careful planning, she navigated the landscape, using her charm and charisma to manipulate powerful men while concealing her true intentions. In her mission to dismantle the trafficking ring of Akachōchingakure, Rini's strategic prowess helped to unveil its true mastermind, the Daimyō. Through calculated moves and meticulous planning, she orchestrated an operation that exposed the extent of the corruption, revealing that the sinister network extended far beyond mere thugs. Just as she skillfully used courtly behavior and political acumen to secure power for the Akatsuki, Rini utilized her charms and cunning to ensure her success.
With the assistance of Kirigakure’s Head-hunter, Yukino, Rini dismantled the trafficking ring and its military, exposing the extent of their corruption. The entire Akatsuki is there, watching as this destruction unfolds, this being seen as Rini’s final test. With how big this trafficking got, it was a significant moment in shinobi history.
As Akatsuki's first satellite village fell into their hands, Rini faced her final challenge, battling Konan for her place within the organization. Despite her defeat, Konan acknowledged Rini's valor even after facing so many opponents prior, officially inducting her into the Akatsuki. Rini formed a two-man team with Sasori, and after just three years, Sasori and Rini bond closely, and are considered one of Akatsuki’s most formidable team.

I don't understand why some people say that Sasuke didn’t care for Naruto to the extent that Naruto cared for him. Yes the story is from Naruto’s POV and in Shippuden Sasuke’s thoughts about Naruto weren’t really explicitly showcased until the end of VOTE2 (though actions speak louder than words), but to think that Sasuke’s monologue at the end was out of the blue is baffling.
Naruto (the story) started when the boys were around twelve years old. But from the time of the massacre to the point where they were 12 years old so many years passed. If you look at if from Sasuke’s POV, he lost everything in the most cruel way possible. He was absolutely betrayed by the one person he looked up to the most and given an even crueler task of taking him down. He was the last Uchiha with the exception of Itachi, and ultimately because of the goal bestowed upon Sasuke by Itachi, Sasuke knew he’d be the last Uchiha too when the time came. A life destined for complete loneliness, a child starved of love. Can you imagine how lonely he must of felt? The despair? It’s impossible to do so really.
But he wasn’t the only one.
Naruto, an orphan, shunned by the villagers, was also completely alone. His loneliness was a mirror of Sasuke’s own, which is why Sasuke was able to recognise Naruto’s pranks for what they were - an attempt to create bonds in hope of companionship and understanding. It was in hope to be loved, to experience love. It made Sasuke feel at ease to know there was someone out there who understood what loneliness was like, for years before the actual ‘story’ started. But due to Sasuke’s circumstances, due to his own experiences, he viewed that as a weakness since he knew the pain of what it was like to have precious bonds ripped away from him. He knew the pain of being plunged into absolute despair because of it. So he tried to avoid creating bonds with others as much as possible. But ultimately he couldn’t though, could he? Naruto - brash, lonely Naruto, who tried so desperately to make bonds, who tried to prove himself to whoever would listen wherever he went, just got under Sasuke’s skin - and stayed there.
Sasuke empathised with Naruto. He felt his pain. He understood his pain. Sasuke watched Naruto from afar when they were young, but by being on Team 7 together they trained together, protected each other, had fun together. They created precious memories. Naruto created one of his two most important bonds with Sasuke (the other being Iruka), but Sasuke reciprocated those feelings right back. Which is why Sasuke was willing to give up his dream, his goal, so that Naruto could live and achieve his dream. Sasuke knew the pain of having the people he loved die, and he didn’t want to see Naruto die. Couldn’t go through that again. You know there’s the common saying of ‘your life flashes before your eyes before you die’? Yet Sasuke was thinking of all the bright and happy memories he had created with Naruto. Sasuke wasn’t strong enough to protect any of the Uchiha the night of the massacre, but he was at least strong enough to protect Naruto. I like to think that while he ‘died’, though he experienced regret at not being able to kill Itachi, he was at least relieved he was able to protect someone precious to him.
Then the Chuunin exams happened. Sasuke saw how strong people were outside of Konoha. The curse mark happened. Itachi came back to the village, but yet once again Sasuke’s priority wasn’t to kill Itachi, but to protect Naruto. His desire to protect Naruto outweighed the immediate need to get vengeance for his clan. However, Itachi’s presence and what transpired between them opened the wound in Sasuke’s heart that had barely healed over. One that will never truly close. So Sasuke made the decision to leave Konoha. He knew he could become powerful outside of the village. But it was also imperative that he leave Konoha because of Naruto. Orochimaru said it himself: Naruto was changing Sasuke’s heart. It was causing him to not prioritise revenge and that simply would not do.
VOTE1 happens. We learn how much Sasuke means to Naruto - and while Sasuke says Naruto can’t truly understand him because of their differing circumstances, he still hurts. Enough so to develop the Sharingan. How many times have Sasuke’s tomoe awakenings been linked to Naruto? We all know why the Sharingan develops - due to emotional turmoil. The bond he has with Naruto, the feelings he has for Naruto, literally affect Sasuke’s brain.
Itachi gave Sasuke explicit instructions. Get stronger. Live in despair. Kill his closest friend to unlock the Mangekyō Sharingan. Hadn’t Sasuke pretty much followed Itachi’s instructions to a T? Not when it comes to Naruto, though. Never when it comes to Naruto. Sasuke was willing to give up his dream to protect Naruto before, but when the perfect opportunity presented itself for Sasuke to kill him, he couldn’t bring himself to do so. He just couldn’t. He tries to rationalise it by saying he doesn’t want to follow in Itachi’s footsteps, yet isn’t that what he’d been doing the entire time? Like I said, Sasuke followed the path Itachi laid out for him. It may not have been exactly what Itachi intended, with Sasuke deserting Konoha and going to Orochimaru, but he was doing what needed to be done - to become stronger and ultimately avenge the Uchiha clan.
Which is why it’s so funny that in Shippuden, during their first reunion, Sasuke says that he sparred Naruto’s life on a ‘whim’. That couldn’t be further from the truth. He tried to rationalise it to himself but it’s such a glaring lie that even Naruto calls him out on it, and asked him why he couldn’t kill him when he had the opportunity to. But by that point Sasuke was set on revenge so he left Naruto behind.
Sasuke kills Itachi. He learns the truth. He’s sent into further despair. His whole life was a lie why did this happen to him why HIM why Itachi why the Uchiha- and then he focuses his new object of revenge onto Konoha. Onto the elders. Onto Danzo.
Yet when everyone gives up on him, when Sasuke sees the only path left for him to take is the one encased in complete darkness, Naruto tells him he understands him. That he’d bear the burden of his hatred and die with him. Yet, Sasuke can’t understand why Naruto is so fixated on him. What was wrong with him? Why would he go so far for him? (Which is funny because Sasuke was the one who went so far for Naruto in the Land of Waves in the first place). Perhaps Sasuke never allowed himself to think that Naruto felt as strongly for him as he felt for Naruto. “Because you’re my friend.” Sasuke’s shocked. Sasuke tells Naruto that he’ll come at him first before destroying Konoha. He gets Itachi’s eyes transplanted in to him. The war happens. Sasuke also instinctively protects Naruto multiple times throughout the war, even before being bestowed the seal from the Sage of Six Paths. Sasuke can try and hide it all he wants, but he doesn’t want Naruto to die. Actions speak louder than words.
But Sasuke’s witnessed the atrocities of their world like no other. Sasuke is inherently a kind person. He would bear the weight of the world’s hatred on his shoulders to unite everyone by becoming Hokage. But Naruto won’t let him do that. How could he? Sasuke knows this. “As expected, I’ll have to deal with you first, Naruto.” Sasuke explicitly says it’s only Naruto he needs to kill to be truly alone in the world. Do you understand the importance of that statement? The only thing keeping Sasuke from the place that is eternal loneliness, like when he first experienced the night of the massacre, is Naruto. Do you understand the importance he places on the bond he has with Naruto? In this dark and cruel world, when Sasuke lost so much, sacrificed so much, even with all his family dead and all of his ‘friends’ against him, Naruto is still there keeping him from being truly alone.
During VOTE2 they fight with words and with their fists and Sasuke allows himself a moment of weakness. He calls Naruto his one and only... friend. But once again, Sasuke is unable to kill Naruto. He turns his Sharingan off at the last second. Then they blow each other’s arms off. And in the face of everything that happened to them, between them, they finally talk about their feelings.
Naruto calls him his friend. Yet, Sasuke knows friendship. He’s experienced friendship. But this is so unlike the friendship that he knows that he has to ask Naruto to define what friendship means to him. And Naruto - brash, lonely Naruto, who tried so desperately to make bonds, who made a bond with Sasuke, who vied so long and hard for Sasuke’s acknowledgement, who went so far to save Sasuke, simply hurt for him. Naruto didn’t want to see him in pain. Naruto loved him that much. Ah, Sasuke thought. I get it. What Naruto felt for Sasuke was exactly what Sasuke had felt for Naruto all along. When Sasuke said “I lost,” he wasn't referring to their physical battle. He ‘lost’ in the battle of denying how much their bond meant to him. He ‘lost’ in denying Naruto’s love for him - the love between them both.
Sasuke’s always cared for Naruto as much as Naruto’s cared for him. It’s just that he couldn’t show it at times. Wouldn’t allow himself too, couldn’t allow himself to. But their feelings were definitely reciprocated. At the end of the story Sasuke wonders if he can apply the love and understanding between them to the greater world around them. It’s not easy but Sasuke hopes. Sasuke found the faith to move forwards with the pain in his heart (because there’s no way for the pain to be erased, all he can do is move forwards with that pain) in the hope of a brighter tomorrow.
They were children starved of love who found love in each other.

whats ur fave sns headcannon? and have you ever written all the uchihas in gremlin mode?
Hey, anon! Thanks for the ask. Sorry it took so long, but y’know... life. :P
To answer your question about the Uchihas in gremlin-mode, I haven’t. Hahaha. Although I would certainly like to read that. lol
About the headcanons, I’ve got sooooooooo many, but to name a few:
1) Sasuke and Naruto definitely travelled the world together after Sasuke returned from his solo travels; learning about themselves and each other... and of course, the world, too!
2) Sasuke is touch-starved, but will only seek and accept affection from Naruto. No one else, thank you very much!
3) Sasuke absolutely hates it when it’s either too cold or too hot. Okay, he hates the heat more than the cold because at least when it’s cold, he can curl into his boyfriend, who’s like super hot 😏. But during the heat he always feels like he wants to rip his skin off; he won’t even let Naruto touch him then (except sometimes when Naruto manages to find creative ways to cool Sasuke down 😏😏😏).
4) They still fight like feral cats and compete with each other that people sometimes wonder if these two are actually in a relationship (but when they’re alone they can’t keep their hands off one another).
5) Usuratonkachi and Dobe are both terms of endearment for Sasuke and Naruto secretly loves it when Sasuke calls him that. Naruto can also totally tell what Sasuke is feeling just by listening to the tone of said endearment. There is only one term of endearment that can make Sasuke go weak in the knees and it is when Naruto calls him ‘darling’. not that Sasuke will ever admit it
6) People assume Naruto is open about the way he feels because of his extravertedness, but in truth, Naruto tends to bottle his emotions and it’s only Sasuke who knows exactly how to draw out his true feelings so Naruto doesn’t just explode from the stress. Since Naruto and Sasuke got together (particularly after his enlightening solo travels), Sasuke has gotten much better at expressing his feelings, even if he’s extremely picky about who he opens up to.
7) Sasuke and Naruto have learned that just knowing things from their heart isn’t enough, and now they understand each other’s love language and take the time to communicate with each other.
8) Sasuke and Naruto have loved each other since they were children. They just never understood what that feeling was until now.
9) They work hard to build and staff a proper orphanage in Konoha, although they don’t adopt their own kids until they’re much older and married.
10)  Both of them take on students. Naruto gets his own Genin team when he becomes Jounin and he enjoys it so much! And Sasuke takes an orphan he encountered during one of his travels under his wing. And when Naruto is ready to propose to Sasuke, he asks the kids for ideas on how he should do it.
11) Naruto does become Hokage like he always dreamt, and Sasuke becomes his Shadow, but the latter stays close to the former, only leaving the village for long-drawn-out missions when it’s absolutely necessary.
12) They make a beautiful life for themselves, growing old together and retire in a cosy little house in the outskirts of the village, with a large yard where their grandchildren can play when they come over. And of course, they have lots of pets!

this just deserves a reblog. that’s it.
remembering that kakashi was fuckign 26 years old when he got assigned team seven is blowing my mind right now. I was naruto’s age when I got sucked into this shit and now I’m kakashi’s and like,,,I get it. my man got assigned the generation’s WORST of the WORST gremlin children and he did the best he fuckin’ could. he nearly dies on every mission because sasuke refuses to go to anger management and naruto is so dumb he probably can’t even read. he’s got like 7 summons that are dogs and he could be spending all his time with them but is he/?? no. he’s got a sharingan making him so Perpetually Exhausted it’s a straight up medical condition and he has to spend all his free time restraining the two finalists of Konoha’s Next Top Orphan from getting people killed instead of like….teaching them. 26 years old and all that unbelievable bullshit. god. and!! then when he finally gets to take a fucking nap they make him hokage I honestly can’t believe he did it. wasn’t even 30 fucking years old. I can’t believe he didn’t leave the damn village himself.

[rolls the dice of ideas to throw at fellow Karin fans] Okay, consider an AU where Karin runs into Gaara during the Forest for Reasons (she did not want to run into him but she's a little more stymied by things like bears and couldn't get her team out of the way in time), and manages against all odds to awaken the chakra chains and... well, not STOP Shukaku, but causes enough trouble that the other sibs manage to convince Gaara she's not worth it. Konoha goes "Oh shit, Uzumaki" and Things Happen
okay but i want this to be Ultra Comedy Crack AU so like
1. it’s a no-Kyuubi-attack AU so Minato and Kushina are still alive, 3. no konoha crush, and then 3. Karin is actively being chased by a bear when she runs right into the sand sibs
Karin: DO YOU REALLY THINK YOU’RE SCARIER THAN A BEAR Kankuro: Uh, yes? (bear rips through the trees) Kankuro: Oh god, I’m not.  Temari: Ha! Gaara: mOtHeR !!!!!!
Anyway, the bear gets ripped to shreds by sand and Karin is like oh god, WHAT but also everything about the bear induces a lot of screaming. The bear is very scary, okay. So is watching Gaara gut it with sand, even if you’re used to Gaara murdering things.
Obviously the sibs then demand Karin’s scroll and she’s like: “....I seem to have dropped it.” Temari is very rough about patting her down, but yeah, Karin is basically useless on that front. Temari and Kankuro debate trying to hold Karin ransom for her team, and meanwhile Gaara is like
Gaara: rip. tear. shred. kill. moTHER11! Kankuro: No, dude, you destroyed the last three scrolls we tried to get “ripping.” Karin: UM.  Temari: Gaara, wouldn’t it be nice to play a different game with the next group? No sand coffins? Karin: I would like to leave.
Karin instead offers up her ability to find a different team for Gaara to direct his rage at, and she walks them right into two rando teams in the middle of duking it out. Gaara gets a little too excited about all the bloodshed, turns on Karin, and then she discovers she did inherit the rare bloodline limit.
Gaara really doesn’t like being contained, though, and freaks out. Shukaku gets out enough that a Scene Is Caused. Karin nearly dies. Kankuro and Temari nearly die. The Hokage gets involved. Karin ends up in the Konoha Hospital, gets a visit from a VERY loud and chatty woman, and then
Kushina: I’m gonna steal her. Minato: You can’t steal another village’s genin. Kushina: But she’s an orphan. :( With a tragic backstory. :( Minato: You can’t steal another village’s genin.  Kushina: Go look at her arms. u.u
Minato, two hours later: Oh no we have to steal another village’s genin
Minato’s Advisors: You can’t steal another village’s genin.  Minato: but we need her for...... Kyuubi reasons.......? Minato’s Advisors: (deep sighs all around)
Karin has not been informed she’s being stolen.
Minato just sort of informs Grass that they’re not getting Karin back. Grass is pissed about it, but also they’re a small village and Konoha’s alliance with Sand is GREAT since Minato and Kushina fixed the Ichibi’s seal. Minato does send them like.... money or some rare scrolls something so he can be like “oh but we made a deal they totally agreed to!” on an international level. They didn’t though. They just have some scrolls they didn’t want and are missing their genin with magic blood. Oops.
Kushina: I’M YOUR MOM NOW. Karin: What the fuck.
So basically Karin is informed she’s never going home again because the Hokage’s unhinged wife wants to adopt her. Yes, she’s been informed the unhinged wife is technically related to her and she’s been promised a comfortable bite-free life, but it’s still. Like. Upsetting.
Also, now she has an annoying.... cousin? brother? An annoying Naruto.
Naruto: Okay, so. Here’s how it’s gonna go around here. You can have all the chicken ones you want, and I’m willing to share on the beef, but I get all the shrimp-- spicy or regular-- unless you ask really nice.  Karin: What the hell are you talking about? Naruto: Our cup ramen supplies, obviously! Anyway, here’s what you need to know about the electric kettle-- Mom tried to make it run on seals during a power outage, so you have to be careful with-- Karin: I am leaving now.
The first time Karin tries to escape Konoha by sneaking out, the Hokage just like. Teleports into existence in front of her. There’s some screaming. Minato tries a pep-talk and Karin technically verbally agrees to be teleported back home, but also now she’s like. Mentally analyzing all the horrible barriers she has to escape. One is that her new quasi-dad can teleport, so she needs to learn how that works, ugh.
There’s a few months where she’s supposed to get “acclimated” and then also have her skills tested. She does a lot of training sessions with Kushina, and Kushina talks about being a little kid in Uzu and then about having to transition to Konoha and helps Karin with the adamantine chains and Karin absolutely hates that she likes her. I don’t want to come up with a genin team for her, so Karin eventually starts getting rotated between the rookie nine + team gai as a “filler” for when someone is on medical leave or taking a separate mission.
But! The main crux of the story is Karin finding increasingly inventive ways to run away. She maps out Minato’s marker seals to try and avoid them and then, as she grows as a ninja, starts fucking with the seals so it’s harder to teleport to her exact location. She comes up with like twelve ways to avoid being tracked by dogs and kikaichu. When she’s sixteen she does something to temporarily blind a byakugan and several people lose their shit.
She gets in trouble, obviously, but also she never gets branded a traitor or anything. By the time she’s good enough at it that she could conceivably actually run away, the point isn’t escape anymore. It’s that people will chase her and bring her back not because she has magic blood or whatever, but because they value her as a person.
She moves out of the Uzumaki-Namikaze house when she’s 18 (she could have earlier, but she didn’t for reasons she will never disclose out loud), but she still shows up for family dinners. Naruto still calls her Nee-chan. And then she either goes into R&D or turns into a badass hunter-nin, take your choice. :P

so i. realized that my oc naoki, shizune's son, would have been alive during the pein fight and. um. i couldn't stop thinking about it. words: 389 character/s: Shizune, Pein's Human Path, mentions of my OC Katō Naoki rating: SFW content: character death, final thoughts, reminiscing. drabble. takes place during the pein fight.
Her final thoughts are of her son; so young, so fresh, so innocent and clueless and so undeserving of losing both parents so young.
His father doesn’t know that he exists. His father, right hand to the most infamous S-class criminal to come out of Konoha, a natural medic and even better spy, who took his prowess and used it for evil. Naoki's father will not be there for him, and that's okay. She doesn't need him to be. He'll be okay without Kabuto's influence on his life.
Shizune and Tsunade are the only parental figures that Naoki has in this world, and Shizune knows that her time is limited.
“Don’t make any foolish moves, or the woman dies.”
Pein's hand is rough against the crown of her head, and she feels her mind swim as he searches her thoughts, her brain for the secrets that he’s looking for. She can’t feel the tips of her fingers or her toes and she knows that these moments will be her last.
Somehow, she’s calm.
She doesn’t worry for herself. She doesn’t worry for Tsunade, or Sakura, or Konoha; doesn’t worry for her friends, who she knows will make it out just fine in the end.
In her final moments, she worries for her son, Naoki.
She hopes that growing up without his parents won't be such a detriment to his growth. She hopes, deep in her heart, that Tsunade takes him under her wing, that he's able to help straighten her out, keep her gambling at bay – and that she's able to teach him how to be as compassionate, caring, big-hearted as Tsunade is, as strong a medic nin as she knows he has the potential to be. She hopes that the village will be nice to him, keep an open mind for a poor orphan who had his parents ripped from him too soon. She hopes that he will forgive her for leaving him before he can remember how she cared for him, how she held him to her breast, cried for hours after holding him for the first time – before he can remember his mother’s love.
She hopes, above all else, that he'll be okay.
I’m so sorry, she thinks, dizzy as she feels her soul ripped from her.
And she doesn’t feel her body hit the ground.

if i was going to write - like actually write - a fanfic that dealt with madara and hashirama’s actions after the failed MEP, it would probably go like this:
madara and hashirama are now on the same page, ideologically speaking. they’ve both seen war, they’ve both seen that the village system has not ended war, they’ve both seen that madara’s predictions about the village persecuting the uchiha have inevitably been realized in full. but! they still want peace. what do?
they have options. 1. work within the village system to reform it, or 2. burn it down and try again.
slight note here: you might be asking why hashirama would be amenable to burning down a system he dedicated his whole life to protect. i have metas for you where i kind of address this:
https://ancharan.tumblr.com/post/624175805177741312/heyy-sorry-if-it-isnt-your-field-of-expertise-but
https://ancharan.tumblr.com/post/626723661343227904/oh-also-in-response-to-ur-hashirama-is-depressed
https://ancharan.tumblr.com/post/626658842150830080/ancharan-all-jokes-aside-i-think-hashirama-has
so given that madara’s conceded that raising people to believe in peace and removing the threat of starvation and scarcity might be more effective than unleashing the evil moon lady, i can see him trying to work within the village system for a while. he’ll give it the old college try.
it’ll fail, of course, because konoha was built not only by senju hashirama and uchiha madara but also by senju tobirama, and its disease is and always has been the fool’s gold of liberalism. it’s entrenched in itself now, bloated, complacent with atrocity and content to sacrifice orphans for the good of itself. it is, at the end of the day, not a structure worth saving.
madara comes to this realization first, of course. he convinces hashirama - and by this i mean hashirama comes to realize what he’s known all along, but is finally bullied into accepting it - and they both begin to work to dismantle the government and create a new one.
hashirama might try to do things the official way - he’ll go to the elders, the advisors, the leaders of the village and politely ask them to relinquish power - of course, this’ll fail miserably, because people in power never relinquish it willingly.
then they’re revolutionaries yeeeeeHAW
just for funsies, and because i could see it happening, there’d probably be some kind of civil war in konoha. lock naruto in a room with hashirama for ten minutes and he’ll switch sides faster than a spinning top; sasuke will follow naruto. as for sakura... she’s always struck me as a little more ideologically independent than the other two (which isn’t saying much because those guys are like the textbook definition of codependency). if sakura was placed in a civil war context with konoha on one side and H&M and S&N on the other, who would she choose?
Who would tsunade choose? her grandfather, senju hashirama, has now repudiated everything she’s ever known. he’s cast off the mantle of the Founder of The Village, Exemplar of the Will of Fire, and is now actively working to dismantle the structures that made tsunade who she is. she takes pride in being the granddaughter of the First; she believed whole-heartedly in the Will of Fire; she’s seen war, too, and way too much of it - but will it click in her mind, that the two might be connected? that the village she loves so much might be causing more pain than it heals?
there’s two parts to tsunade that i’m considering here. the first is the medic, who knows when it’s time to sever a gangrenous limb; the second is the drunk, who hides from her problems at the bottom of a bottle of sake.
at the end of the day, i feel like sakura will choose whatever side tsunade chooses.
so what happens to konoha? some kind of cataclysmic change. something systemic and irreversible. is it for the better? maybe. maybe not. it’ll have a lot of the same elements as the original founding - both times, hashirama and madara are ripping apart an old way of life to inscribe a new one. both times they’re creating something from scratch, and hoping for the best.
then hashirama and madara will get drinks 🍻

If I told you
Okay, before you begin reading, I’d like to say I wrote this about 5-6 years ago and later published it on ffnet.
While talking with some friends, I decided to post it here as well after I took care of some typos (there might still be some mistakes I missed, though).
It’s a songfic, using the Naruto universe and the song “If I told you” from the wedding singer.
Anyway, I hope you like it :)
oOo
Pairing: SasuHina
 Italics: Thoughts
 “Word “: Talks
 **Word**: Lyrics
Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto and If I told you is from “The wedding singer”.
OoooO
If someone ever told him that, he, Uchiha Sasuke, would be hopelessly in love with a girl one day, he would have laughed at that person’s face, after punching the daylights out of him, of course. He never believed in love, never believed someone would ever capture his heart – supposing he has one – and would melt it.
Like everyone in Konoha, he thought that he would always be that cold, ruthless and lonely soul. Guess he was wrong, like every damn villager, because she came along. She, who he now is watching from a tree outside her family house. The crabapple tree she used to escape home, a little underneath her window and with many branches heading out of the fence was now his observation place…
 **Standing here underneath your window,
Searching for some kind of sign**
He wanted her to turn around, wanted her to just approach her window and see him. Then she would climb on the tree too, and flee with him. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case.
She was in front of her mirror, a blissful grin adorning her angelic face. And why wouldn’t she be smiling? After all, she is trying “that” dress… Her wedding dress…
The white garment, which was contrasting beautifully with her long raven locks, made her look like an angel.
Pale lavender eyes that he would never gaze at again; long raven locks in which he won’t run his fingers ever again, nor smell her sweet shampoo – apple scented, he recalled fondly – , a cute button nose that he liked to flick – to her great annoyance – , cute pink lips that he oh so wanted to kiss, cheeks that are always adorned with that adorable blush – even though it wasn’t caused by him at the moment – that he found really endearing, a heart-shaped face, a petite but curvaceous body… That all add to make her, Hyuuga Hinata, his best friend, the love of his life… and his guy best friend’s fiancée.
 **Every move, every tiny gesture
 Only proves you’re not mine**
And she’ll be married in a few days… No longer would she be Hyuuga Hinata, she will be Uzumaki Hinata. If only he just realized his feelings earlier. But if he did, what would he have done? Take her out on dates? Shower her with gifts? Buy her flowers? Pick her up from work? Be with her when she’s sick? Support her ideas no matter how crazy they are? Comfort her when she is sad? Share her happiness? Go on wild trips once in a while?
He already did all of that!! So what? Should he have told her how he felt if he knew sooner? But now, it’s too late… But God knows he would do anything for her, to have her return his love. He would go as far as stealing the moon for her – maybe like Groo did, because even though it is just a movie, miniaturizing the moon was a good idea – or buy her an island – after all, he has enough money to – but he knows she’s not someone you can buy with money, and she liked simple things.
“Oh, Hina-chan, what wouldn’t I do if only you asked me to?” he thought desperately.
**I could write you a thousand love songs,
Search the world for the perfect tune and rhyme.
But what good would it do if it seems I’m out of time**
Or maybe it’s not too late? Maybe he can still tell her? But would it change anything? After all, her wedding is in two days! And what if she hates him for that? And the dobe? He would never forgive him. And he can’t stand the idea of hurting the two people who ever loved him, accepted him, the rich orphan no one would dare approach.
No, he won’t tell her. He would keep his feelings to himself. No one would have to know. After all, he is the Uchiha Sasuke, believed to finish his life as a lonely old man. He’d just stick to everyone’s expectations.
That decided, he climbed down the tree and proceeded to go home. Maybe he’d lock himself in his house until the wedding – with beers – because, well, he is the best man, and even though it pained him to attend that fateful day, he must.
He was so absorbed in his thought that he didn’t notice the agitation around him… But then, a piercing scream snapped him to reality. He saw a kid, maybe ten years old, frozen in the middle of the road, a van way past the speed limit coming his way, and a woman – his mom maybe – rooted and screaming on the sidewalk.
Without a second thought, he rushed to the kid and pushed him out of the way; fearing the kid would knock himself on the concrete, hit his head or something. He forgot that he now is in the kid’s place. Suddenly, pain ripped through his right side, and he found himself flying. Then, his head met the solid concrete and felt numb. His vision was filled with black dots and the sound around him seemed like a low buzz.
“Am I going to die?” he mused. Then, another thought crossed his mind. “Should I have told her?” … Her, Hinata… Hinata… Hinata…
**If I told you all the words I’ve yet to say,
Would they matter or would you simply turn and walk away?**
 OoooO
 “Sa…suke”
 “That voice!”
 “Sa…suke!” the voice called again.
That soft voice! He knew it! He knew it, he was sure! But whose?
 “Sasuke!!” the voice softly cried.
“Hinata!! Hinata is calling me!!” . He forced his eyes open and saw her… Still clad in her wedding dress. So beautiful and… Is that blood? Is she hurt? Why is she crying?
He tried to stand up but found out he couldn’t. Then, he remembered the van, the kid, flying…
 “Hi…hinata” he whispered feebly.
“Sasuke! Sasuke! Don’t you dare die on me! An ambulance is on its way!” she exclaimed.
“Hina…” he attempted again. If it was his last day, his last time on earth, he would tell her… Even if it would mean he was giving his last breath.
Gathering his strength, he whispered “I… I… love… you”. He saw her eyes widen and then, he was engulfed in a total darkness, not knowing what she thinks of his last sentence.
**If I hold you, will you tell me I should go?
Do I chance it or would it just be better not to know**
 OoooO
Hinata was in front of her mirror, admiring her beautiful dress. It had taken her, Sakura, Ino, Tenten and Hanabi four days to find it. The perfect dress. The top is constituted of spaghetti straps, a sweetheart neckline and a figure hugging tube top. The bottom blooms like a princess ball gown, puffy and adorned with lace.
She couldn’t help but feel gorgeous. After all, it was what she wanted since she was barely a kindergartener! She was so dazzled by the blond, energetic and sunny kid that was Uzumaki Naruto. He was outspoken, loud and determined to become something great, all that she was not. So she had been easily pulled by his bubbly personality. And in just two days, she’ll rightfully be his wife, like she’d dreamed all along.
**Who’s that girl with a perfect future?
 Her reflection says it all**
Yeah, Uzumaki Hinata. That sounds right, ne? She’d be with him for the rest of her life. She can already see it from here. Every day would be filled with laughter, hope and sunshine. And the kids! Will they be as energetic as him? Or as calm as her? She doesn’t know… and she kind of didn’t want to know that yet.
Just like she hoped the wedding day wouldn’t approach that fast. Because she was scared! But what bride-to-be wouldn’t? A marriage is a drastic change, and Hinata doesn’t really like change. Is she ready for that? Is she capable of handling her own family? What if she doesn’t make a good wife? Is it too soon? And what if something doesn’t go well? Like the band canceling last minute, the rain suddenly falling when they planned for an outdoor wedding, the flowers attracting bees and all?
**Trying hard to pretend she’s eager,
Searching for some way to stall**
But… Is she really scared of the change? Or was it the fact that it’s not him? Him, her best friend since middle school. No! What is she thinking? Of course she loves Naruto and is just afraid of something not going as planned on the wedding. That’s it!
“Yeah, keep telling that to yourself” her conscience said to her. “He’s not the one you’re in love with. You really love him, that’s for sure, but just in a brotherly way”
But the wedding is only in two days! She can’t get cold feet now, right? Even though she loved Sasuke… Him and no one else. She did for the longest time but she just ignored that feeling, fearing what he would do if he ever found out she is just another fangirl… Well, she’s not a fan but she has feelings for him so that makes her a fangirl by his standard. That’s why she stuck as his best friend… Even though she took every time they hang out as dates, cherished all the little gifts he gave her since middle high, pressed every flower he gave her and kept them in her diary, let him pick her from work, she always kept her feelings from him… And everyone else, for that matter. He always was there for her, in sickness, in health, in sadness and in happiness, making her love him even more…
**So unsure of the road she’s chosen,
Faced with feelings her heart should not allow**
But she’s getting married. Everything was already organized and ready. The dress, the venue, the guests, the caterer, the food, and even the honeymoon were already set. She just can’t turn back now, right? Everyone would be disappointed in her… Her dad, her sister, Naruto… But she can’t… She doesn’t have enough courage to go through it…
**One thing’s certain it seems that she just can’t turn back now.
If she can, tell her how**
Suddenly, her door flew open and Hanabi rushed in, panicked and panting heavily.
“Hinata!” She took a huge breath. “It’s Sasuke”.
 “What? Here?”
Hanabi took one more deep breath before blurting “He got hit by a van down the street! He’s calling you.”
Hinata’s blood turned cold and her face became livid.
 “Hinata! Hurry!”
Hanabi’s voice shook her out of her stupor and she dashed outside, her little sister hot on her heels.
She just can’t believe it! What if he …? No! She can’t think like that! She can’t!
She ran to the gathering and saw him there, lying on the concrete, in a pool of blood. She made her way through the throng of people, ignoring their bewildered look upon seeing her dress and kneeled beside him.  He seemed like he was dead but she heard his slow breathing, becoming more and more light every second.
 “Sasuke!”
 Nothing.
 “Sasuke!”
 Still nothing.
 “Sasuke!”
 Still no response.
“Please, please, wake up! I need to tell you something!”
She decided then and there that if he ever woke up, she would tell him how she feels. But what if he rejects her? Could she live with that?
“Idiot! Now is not the time to think of that!” she admonished herself.
 “Sasuke!”
Her tears finally began to pour down her face like a waterfall.
 His eyes fluttered open.
 “Hi…Hinata”
Even though it was just a whisper, she heard him and was a little relieved.
“Sasuke! Sasuke! Don’t you dare die on me!”
A siren blared from some blocks down, causing her to feel even more relieved.
“An ambulance is on its way!”
“ Hina”  he whispered again, causing her to look at him. He closed his eyes, making her panic raise to full level again. “I… I…”
Why is he still trying to talk?! He’ll only weaken himself!! But she didn’t have the force to speak.
 “…love… you.”
What?! Her eyes widened! Did she hear him right? She was too stunned to say anything. But then, his eyes closed.
“NO! no no no, please, please, don’t die…”
Suddenly, medics circled his body and she felt someone trying to make her stand up. They rushed him inside the ambulance and she escaped whoever it was helping her up to join him.
“Are you a family member?” A medic asked.
 “I’m his fiancée” she lied.
A look of pity crossed the medic’s face as he said “Ok, hop in.”
**If I told you all the words I’ve yet to say,
Would they matter or would you simply turn and walk away?**
 OoooO
Four hours later, she was still in the lobby, near the ER. People gave her pitiful looks – assuming from her red stained wedding dress that it was her husband who was being operated – but she paid it no heed. Hanabi had been there to comfort her but gave up after getting no reaction whatsoever from her sister who was frozen on a seat.
“Hinata!” Naruto exclaimed as he ran to her, forgetting he should keep his volume low. He hugged her and she finally woke up from her trance.
 “He…He…” she said between tears.
“He’s gonna be okay Hina” he tried to reassure her. He then looked at her clothes and was shocked. She was wearing her wedding dress! And she was so beautiful!
But it was stained with huge, red splotches of blood. His eyes widened as his gaze took in her entire appearance.
Hinata saw him watch her and followed his gaze.
“Oh my God! Naruto! I’m so sorry!” she exclaimed when she finally registered the fact that she ruined her dress.
“Don’t worry Hina! It’s just a dress. You can have a new one,” he said. He looked her straight in the eyes, blue eyes so intense she could swear he saw right into her soul. Then, he sighed. “But you won’t need it right?” he continued sadly.
“Wh-what do you mean?” she confusedly asked.
 “You do love him Hina…”
 “How?”
“I guess I knew it all along but I selfishly ignored it.” His tone was so sad her heart broke for him. “He does love you too, you know? But you guys were never doing anything about it so I took my chance… I was kinda worried that if you two ever hooked up, you would forget about me.”
She hugged him as hard as she could, as if her life depended on it, as if she could take all his pain if she held him strong enough.
“I’m going to cancel the wedding” he finally said after a long time, “and then, I’ll come back here. Hana-chan is already getting you some clothes.”
He got up. “I’ll be back soon, Hina! And don’t worry! That teme is a fighter! He won’t die that easily, believe it!”
He gave her one of his trademark grin and she found herself more hopeful.
 OoooO
 Seventeen months later.
It was now seventeen months since that fateful night. Seventeen months during which Sasuke had been in coma. Seventeen months Hinata came in the hospital daily. Seventeen months since she lived on autopilot: getting up, getting ready and heading for the hospital, staying with Sasuke till the visiting hours were over, going home and sleeping.
These seventeen months had been hell for her, beginning with her family’s disappointed remarks – silenced by Hanabi and Naruto – due to the canceling of her wedding, to hoping every day that he would wake up and finding him still unconscious, and ending with the doctors trying to convince her to debranch him since the last two months.
But she refused and still got to his room because she had faith in him. She knew he would someday wake up.
“Sasuke” she began, like every day. “ Why didn’t I tell you sooner?”
 She took his hand.
“Now, I feel guilty for hiding that from you…”
 Silence.
 “Please, wake up”
 Still nothing.
“Well, Tenten-chan and Neji-niichan are heading home today with little Haruka. The doctor said she and the baby are well and strong enough now… Hana-chan and Naruto-kun are on their first date too today. I’m really happy for them. They really deserve each other.” She told his unmoving form, smiling slightly.
“Oh Sasuke! Can you please wake up?” she pleaded, her hands clasping his, her eyes tearing. “I… I need you… I love you! I love you Sasuke!”
She cried some more and fell asleep.
 OoooO
She was suddenly woken up by nurses and doctors barging into his room.
“Uh? What…?” she began to ask but was ushered outside by a nurse before she could form a coherent sentence.
“Stay there dear” she said firmly and closed the door.
Hinata sat herself on a nearby chair and waited. “What just happened? Is he okay? Is he waking up? Or is he… Is he…?  No! I can’t think that way! I have to stay positive! Positive, girl!”
 OoooO
After nearly an hour, all the nurses and the two doctors came out. One of them walked to her.
“Miss Hyuuga? He’s stable and conscious.”
“He woke up?” she asked hopefully.
“Yes, he did. You can see him if you want but don’t let him tire himself. Also, we still have to run some tests to see if his cerebral activities are okay or if he has amnesia, like many people undergoing such long coma do.”
“You mean, he can forget everything?”
“Not entirely everything. Maybe some period of his life, some people or some feelings… but for now, we’re not sure as he seems to remember his identity. Now, I won’t take more of your time because you must be dying to see him. But please, be cautious.”
And then, the doctor was gone.
 She entered his room.
“Hey” she hesitantly said. Will he recognize her?
“Hey Hina” he replied, smiling slightly.
It was all she needed to run and hug him, as much as she could with all the wires still attached to him.
“Oh Sasuke! You don’t know how much I’ve wanted to see you awake again!”
Her tears began to flood again.
“Hina! Don’t – don’t cry! I’m alright! See?” he reassured her while returning her hug.
After a long – really really long – hug, he asked “So, where’s the dobe?”
 “Uh, he’s on a date…”
“A date?” he interrupted her. “That idiot is on a date when he has an adorable and loving wife like you?! That idiot! I’m going to kill him!!”
He was already beginning to plan many ways to torture then kill that blonde friend of his when he heard her crystalline laughter. She was… laughing?
“Uh? What did I miss?” he asked her.
“Sasuke, Naruto-kun and I are not married. We canceled the wedding.”
“But… But you love each other!”
 Then, a huge blank followed.
Hinata’s heart thumped loudly. Should she tell him? Of course she should! But what if he doesn’t return her feelings?
“He already confessed, right?” her conscience reminded her.
“Yeah, but what if he forgot about it? Something to do with post-traumatic stress or something like that?” she argued back.
“Idiot! Just tell him you love him! After all, you wanted to. You promised yourself you would confess when he woke up. Now, he did so woman up and do it!”
 “No, Sasuke. Actually, I…”
**If I hold you, will you tell me I should go?
Do I chance it or would it just be better not to know?**
 OoooO
“She doesn’t love the dobe anymore? Wow, does it mean I still have a chance? Or does it mean she already has someone else?”
“Do you have someone else Hina?”
“How would I say it? I don’t know?”
“You don’t know?” He asked, clearly confused.
 “No, I don’t have anyone else… but…”
“Yes, oh God, thank you! Thank you! I can tell her freely now!” he thought.
“I love you” they both blurted at the same time.
 Huuuge blank.
Then, when they realized what they heard, they both chuckled and resumed their hug.
 “Hey, Hime” Sasuke called.
 “Yes?” she looked up.
Then he kissed her. Hinata immediately returned his kiss, barely registering the sound of the heart rate monitor becoming louder.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for a very long time.” He said when they finally broke the kiss to take a breath.
“Well, you then have a long time to make up for.” She teasingly replied before they kissed again, catching up the lost time.
**Would it just be better not to know?**

Did you not know how hard life would be for your new born child as you sealed the Kyuubi into him? Did you not know how hard life would be for your new born child as you sealed the Kyuubi into him?
Good question. Minato was far too logical and far too calculating to entrust everything to something as fickle as fate, right?
Well, yes. Only once had the Namikaze mustered the courage to gamble - and that too with a play on countless variables and seemingly endless outcomes; only to come to one solitary conclusion.
He was going to murder his own child.
Tumblr media
The evening air was crisp with the scent of ash and smoke; amidst the putrid stench of burning flesh and wood. Flesh that was unfortunately, not just his, for Konoha had suffered greatly tonight.
“Naruto…from now on, you’re going to face lots of pain and hardship.”
Crimson bubbled from the corner of his lips as Kushina’s voice quivered, her words a mere whisper akin to the flickering embers that danced around them, practically glowing in the eerie moonlight.
“Be true to yourself.”
Blue hues stared absently at her beautiful crimson locks, for that was all the energy he had left for; they were a welcome distraction from what felt like cold, icy tendrils originating from around his middle and slowly inching upwards.
They were running out of time.
“Have a dream and have the confidence to make that dream come true”
Tan digits loosened from where they had been gingerly resting against the Uzumaki. Sweat peppered his brow, as relentless as the spiritual tendrils wrapped stubbornly around his soul.
The agony, the sheer, unadulterated pain was more than he could have imagined - but it was nothing compared to what would befall his orphan son. Sucking in a breath, he chanced a peek at the small tuft of blond hair, so alike his own, over Kushina’s quaking shoulders.
His son…Kami, he was really going to do this, wasn’t he?
“I wish I could stay with you longer.”
Naruto would be an orphan; a jinchuriki with no one to guide him, he would never know a parent’s love, nor of their compassion. There would be an incomprehensible void where he and Kushina should have been; the suffering alone would be enough to send an ordinary man over the edge.
Minato, for one, had never tasted that particular brand of loneliness as well, but he was certainly no stranger to it either.
But not Naruto…not him…he was no ordinary child; would grow up to be no ordinary shinobi. Minato was no fortune teller, but he could feel it; the resolve ran as deep as the blood in his veins, as the sure belief that this was no mistake.
Iie. This couldn’t be a mistake. Blond brows furrowed lightly at the thought, resolute despite his blurring vision.
There was no such thing as coincidence.
“I love you.”
Maybe this is what it meant to be a father? Unwavering faith in one’s child.
Ah, but could he even claim the right? He was the Yondaime, wasn’t he? He had prioritized the lives entrusted to him over that of his most precious son, hadn’t he? By choosing to save them, he had chosen to doom the love of his life and the child he had been dreaming about since so long ago.
Would they even understand their sacrifice? Naruto’s?
Selfish? Maybe. Nirvana didn’t exist for people like him - rather, just him. If unwavering faith in one’s child made him a father, then robbing said child of the love he so rightfully deserved made him no better than a murderer.
“Naruto…I love you.”
He could feel his resolve crumble at her words. Kushina - this was not the life he had promised her during their hasty exchange of ceremonial cups of sake; it wasn’t fair that she had to endure so much pain and suffering for his decisions that had ultimately led them to where they were now.
The same decision that would pave the future for their son. He would gladly gamble his life away for the little babe who had just entered the world; for faith he didn’t even realize he had until this point.
There’s a child of prophecy, you see.
Minato could feel it in his bones and for once he hoped against all odds that he was right because Jiraiya sensei had to be wrong.
“Minato I’m sorry…I used up your time too.”
Minato wasn’t the child of prophecy (he had never been the child of prophecy); it was his son. The very son who had defied all odds and calculations with his mere existence; borne to a Hokage and a Jinchuriki, Jiraiya’s godson - a cataclysm for a future only he could be entrusted with.
Never had he been more convinced of what he alone probably considered unwavering, unquestionable fact. There was no such thing as coincidence.
Fate? Faith? He didn’t even know anymore. All he knew was that he had just entrusted all his hopes and dreams to a cruel, unforgiving mistress; a gamble that involved his life and his son’s future which he clearly would not be allowed to partake in.
Nirvana didn’t exist for Namikaze Minato - only the eternal tortures of the shinigami’s stomach.
I loathe you, Yondaime.
…And a very antsy roommate. Dull hues fixed themselves on the ritual alter, on the blood stained form of his sniffling son who had no idea what his foolish father had just entrusted to his tiny, tiny hands.
“My advice to you, as your father..” His breath hitched at the word, despite the watery smile it coaxed from his pained features, “Is everything your nagging mother just said.”
Naruto…
“Hakke Fuuin”
Forgive me.
An eternity in hell for entrusting the future to his son - for those light blue orbs that had peeked at him oh so curiously. If he felt any regrets, it was with his dwindling conscious as the shinigami’s ethereal blade ripped his soul apart; atom by every agonizing atom.
Ah…if only he had held his son one last time. It would never be enough.
P.s. Minato never did anything without a reason - but the one time he did, it was an act of faith. Who knew?
Further P.s. You and Finger Seizure are going to be the death of my sleep schedule one day – that day had been yesterday. z-z @himekushinada for reference.

MAKO IS AT IT AGAIN WITH FUTURE!KONOHA META.
So. The war is over, 20 years and counting, Konoha is more or less at peace with the rest of the Great Nations. The Konoha 11 are war heroes, adored by the kids, respected by the civilians, feared by the rest of the force who is perfectly aware of just how freaking strong those guys are. Every year, the governement edits a calendar for the anniversary, and the money goes to the orphans. Naruto is... not Hokage. He was, for a few years after the war. Then he realized just how rotten the government is on the inside, so he quit. And promptly joined an underground network undercover to clean all that shit.
At no one’s surprise, he named Shikamaru his successor, who took about thirty seconds to draw from his smoke before telling the Council he’d rather die. Because at heart, he’s still a trickster, Naruto named Kiba, who at everyone’s surprise this time, is still doing an incredible job 15 years later.
Around his appointment in Office, he and Sakura also started dating. Two years later, they had a boy, Kenshi. But their love was something scorching, quick to burn and to go out. They lasted four, beautiful, incredible years that both still qualify as the happiest days of their lives. Shikamaru took it as his cue to court Sakura, the proper, traditional way of the Nara. Reluctant at first, she soon found herself fascinated by his culture and the myriads of ways he was showing her how great he found her. She was the one to propose, in the end. They had a son, Shikaoi, heir of the Nara Clan.
Sakura was doing great, Head of Konoha Central, lab genius. Then she was knocked out by a fake patient and kidnapped. She came home six months later, scarred and missing a finger. Writing with diffculty, she told them about Iwa. Iwa, jealous of how well Konoha is doing, Iwa, with an epidemy so bad they had to put the village on quarantine while everyone is slowly dying. Iwa, who kidnapped her to find a cure and beat her bloody for every day she couldn’t find one. Kurotsuchi was a mad woman now, and after giving her the cure, Sakura managed to escape.
That’s how the Fifth Shinobi War started. In three weeks, they lost Hinata and Lee. Naruto unleashed Kurama to raze Iwa from the map, but they trapped him in a seal and he died slowly, painfully, every drop of chakra ripped from his body. And when Sakura thought it couldn’t get worst, Shikamaru sacrificed himself to keep Kurama, half mad with agony and grief, contained long enough to seal it into Karin, the last of the Uzumaki bloodline. The Fifth War was a bloodbath, and only three Great Nations survived it.
Konoha was never the same after.
(also yes, I did write a story about this, and you can find it here)
(and yes, this is a verse I do intent to write more for)
