Reminded mum I had to walk the dog. I rather journal than read a book, I just started editing. Walking with Kahu, and Im not walking alone…No way, but Im not rushing mum, she ain’t budging anyway. Mum likes to walk alone slowly in the dark. Stop and wait. Stop. Go. Stop. Go. Mum has this thing about staying up late. She can stay up for hours, 3 days on a full moon and has really good smell and foresight. My uncles would agree, and Aunty said she seen a ghost and mum doesn’t even care, she laughs and said told you so…every time I here the story. She likes Staring at the sky alone if she’s not underwater, or foraging deep in thoughts mauka, ends with taking photos at night . She likes to stay near graveyards,”…closest you can get is near a body of water and grove of trees” whatever that means. I always have to tell her hurry up. She said you sound like grandpas. My uncles tell me she needs to slow down I think you have to be around her long enough to know most the time she is alone staring at things. She just likes to enjoy nature , and if she’s not joking around , she’s listening to stories of the dead. She says the crickets tell her stories, and I have to tell her to stop staying in the middle of the road. We get to grandma Carmens wedding kumu niu hookupu that are the same age as her, she says “ hi grams and hi Max.” We go walk along the reef, see family and my brother @laniakea_love resting kinolau all in his lil waa. She tells me to look at Orion in English and asks me what time is it? She’s talking about our calendar clock with Mahina. Its a decade, and transition of my brothers day to the transfer into the coming year and summer. Same place different time. Our Littles are getting stronger and taller after a long year of learning how to get smashed #surfsk8motorodeosnowkempowaa (yea holy wow thanks covid it became a super big co-ed we just invited everybody to the initiatives) and the girls slowly creeping in bodyboarding with #charleyann and the #nativehawaiian #wahinesurftwins of @chickswhorip veteran coaches who helped start kuleana at @surfdiva_official @perfectdaysurfcamps schools and private lessons around the world. From a family of mentors and coaches , our friends have seen the posts we share to provide resources and recognised us , we asked an theres room. We want the kids to join in with the guys bodyboarding clinic. Men have taken the lead but we aren’t feminists, we are hawaiian from a matriarchal country, and there’s dualism in each service, we respect each gender to coexist. #MuchoAloha from the Mahiko and Paniolos of our past. That’s where “Much Aloha” comes from, the Spaniards and Mexicans reformed Hawaii, Paniolo derives from the word espanol. Me, Im part of that Spanish descendant, “the mix mut nut” i’ed laugh. When Gaye and Robinson decided to do agriculture and invented a way to pipe water in dense lava and swamp land, it changed the landscape of the whole Kona District and beyond forever. Ecologically it changed the wetlands, in turn it built town homes we call plantation, and Hawaiis other venturers followed. From there our families grew around sugar, and during the time if our grandparents lives , were to try snd save what was left of the wetlands and the economic of the old kahiko way if the makaainana. But, we wouldn’t have the future of Makaainana to rally up and build the transition of one Captain Cook Celebration era to another, which brought us together beyond #hanabata and #menehune graduation of at the #waimeatowncelebration . Our elders at our age now, worked up the strength and changed the #Makahiki seasonal festival as fit to the month it falls in. We were definitely going to be excited to capture some of these moments , so we leave the #Wranglerswaimea #SaddleRoom (our weekly version of gathering , a good place to chill and hide from mosquitoes ). We invite our Honolulu family over, because they are still in limited covidd restrictions (we’ll see about that come Monday), plus they plan to give us a show once again!!! I mean who needs a city club when you have a huge open-air beer garden to open up Kaua’i and Hawai’is larger festival events. Lonoikamakahiki!!, Mahalo to our families that gave us that space, it gives room for additions to our ohana.
