one of the inherent parallels between impulse & superboy is really 'what if this kid who is new to the world and the way it operates had some proper adult guidance or what if this kid very much *did not* have proper adult guidance'
#there were good adults in kon's life but i don't think any advocated for him nearly enough really#everything about his backstory just generally makes me very sad and frustrated . he was just a kid...#just a kid :(#commentary#i guess#kon-el#bart allen#impulse#maxwell crandall#max mercury

thank you!!! & it's hard for to explain just what he's thinking about, this piece has a lot behind it and im not articulate but i will try. most of it is about kon almost kinda learning clarks detachment/loneliness/alienation in smallville. idk it's very heavily based on the big empty feeling that superman for all seasons has
something about kon inherently being a character that's always, always been about Connection while not fitting in and making friends/fans/alliances everywhere he goes (from the jump! his leather jacket was a gift!) turning into this pretty isolated person as he tries to be more like the traits of superman he wants to embody.... thus inheriting the loneliness that superman is constantly plagued with as he gets closer to knowing how to mask as (and it is masking) A Regular Boy.... i just think about it a lot.
i figured this piece would flop but i still wanted to talk about it a little :')
give it some time, time, time, time

Yk what comic reader headcanons für die drei Fragezeichen from someone who’s a bit too passionate about comics.
Justus Jonas
Fav comic age: Copper Age 1985-2000
Fav character: Rorschach (doesn’t agree with his actions the slightest)
Fav writers: Grant Morrison, Allan Moore, James Tynion IV
Fav labels: DC Vertigo, Image comics.
- DC reader, happy to find anything Vertigo related the more obscure the better.
- Has the classics like Watchmen, Sandman, Swamp Thing etc in really good quality Hardcover special editions or Omnibusses but also cheap versions to lend others.
- reads every Sandman universe spin off but would rather die than read a watchmen spin off.
- would argue that the Doom Patrol should be always viewed as vertigo.
- argues that the DC Dark Label was useless to form but appreciates that old vertigo lines have a home now and that the separations as elseworlds is needed.
- „HULK ARE HORROR COMICS WHY DID THE MCU DO THIS TO HIM????“
- also reads horror manga
Peter Shaw
Fav Comic Age: Plastic and Digital 2000- till now
Fav Characters: Superman, Thor, Cliff Steele, Gwenpool
Fav Writers: Josie Campbell, Mark Waid
Fav labels: DC, Boom!Box, IDW Publishing
- Would never admit that he read doom patrol to Justus
- Big into soft boys with social commentary but also sarcastic anti heroes.
- standing in the trenches to support superman and the superfam
- loves modern license comics that support his favorite shows or movies and act as extra specials.
- doesn’t really read anything too niche but is into light hearted comics and also (queer) romance.
- breaks backs with normal books like it’s a sport but if you break one of his hardcovers or trade paperbacks in… you’re gonna see hell
Bob Andrews
Fav Comic Age: Silver Age, Bronze Age (mid 50s till mid 80s)
Fav Characters: Wonder Woman, Star Fire, Dick Grayson, Wally West, Nightcrawler, Storm, Larry Trainor, Poison Ivy (yes, they are all his favorites and he’s super passionate about them)
Fav Writers: Brian K. Vaughan, G Willow Willson
Fav Label: Image Comics
- doesn’t have a fav between the big 2 but tends to marvel.
- loves big groups of superheroes and found family
- searches for a lot of queer subtext between the pages, reason why he loves the X-men…. And whatever Kon-El and Tim have going on.
- again a doom patrol supporter because they all there have to be. Trust me.
- enjoys silly queer characters like Danny The Street
- has a lot of common knowledge about comic theology, theory and history.
- reads a lot of image comics fantasy and sci-fi
- got into Brian K. Vaughan because of Justus who lend his Y: The Last Man issues to Bob.
- Wonder Woman George Perez truther.

GET TO KNOW THE MUN!
Fill in this form to let your RP partners your preferences in terms of writing. Knowing your partners better makes figuring out the kind of interaction you can have with each other easier! Repost, don't reblog.
name: Pinky preference of communication: tumblr ims, unless we're main mutuals in which case you can ask for my discord. name of muse(s): Kon-El / Conner Kent / Superboy. best experience: Hard to pick, I love the long-running stories I have with @reddrakebird, but also dressing up the dash was fun! rp pet peeves / deal breakers: People assuming my characters reaction. If you need to write it in your post, just ask me and I'll be happy to provide. fluff, angst, or smut: You'll probably assume smut but I love all three. Character development is my fav and I feel like each of these contribute in different ways. plots or memes: memes are great as ice-breakers but I'm super happy to plot out stuff too! long or short replies: Middle? Too long and it'll take me a while to get back to you because it takes more concentration. Too short and I might feel like there's not much there to work with. Not that I'll ever get mad at someone for a one-liner. Sometimes they're perfect, especially when it comes to dash commentary! best time to write: Nights. I'm a night owl (but that could be early morning or late evening to some of you since I'm in the GMT timezone) are you like your muse: Nope, I wish! Kon is extroverted, shameless and doesn't care what anyone thinks of him. I on the other hand am a shy little bean. :) tagged by: @1mpulsee tagging: you! ♡

Babe, I just want you to tell me who every driver is as a superhero. Make me a list. I wanna hear it.
logan omg this was so. SO HARD. ive been out of the superhero game for so long so truly this is all just.....i used a wiki page and can explain maybe half of these decisions. feel free to inquire. (also, these are all DC characters because i have not thought about marvel in quite literally a decade)
it was also hard because i didn't want to be A Hater whilst doing this, which is very big of me and i think the audience should be proud<3
anyway! love u and this is a fantastic q. nonsense (feat. sporadic commentary) under the cut 😁✌️
alex - apollo
logan - red arrow
carlos - wildcat
charles - green lantern
max - raven
checo - martian manhunter
esteban - plastic man (i based this solely on limb length.)
pierre - the flash
george - midnighter
lewis - wonder woman (i was debating which of the big three he would be and had all three here at one point but i do feel like wonder woman's ethos aligns pretty well with lewis in general)
kmag - aquaman
nico - booster gold
lance - blue beetle
fernando - constantine
oscar - firestorm
lando - robin
valtteri - nightwing (🍑)
zhou - the atom
nyck - vibe
yuki - kon el/superboy
daniel - beast boy
i also leaned on Big Ships so like. max/daniel = raven/beast boy. alex/george = apollo/midnighter. pierre/charles = barry/hal (even though personality-wise i think pierre is more hal than charles is but that's beside the point)
ps dont let this post erase the fact that robstar!piarles would go hard and i will die on that hill
#me after making this list: wait did you mean what super power would everyone have. oh no#anyway. we can play that game too i just went the easy route#and i can be persuaded so many different ways w these. please don't hesitate to boo me#ask reply#wolfiemcwolferson

🎉We’re caught up!!!🎉
We have officially gone through all of 616!Moon Knight’s published material (that I’m aware of anyway hahaha). Thank you for following along, as there are a lot more of you than I ever thought would be interested in this little project of mine, and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to share this with you all! For those of you who just started following (first of all hi! So excited to have you!) and for long-time followers alike, don’t worry! This isn’t the end of the Age of Moon Knight by a long shot. Administrative minutiae and musings on the future of this blog beneath the cut.
I’ll be keeping a sharp eye out for any new 616!Moon Knight material that gets released and I’ll be posting here accordingly. Can’t wait to see how the current volume develops and whatever guest appearances they have in store for Moon Knight!
I have also been playing with the idea of branching out into other Moon Knight material. I definitely want to go through and perhaps share any variant covers I can find, as I think that could be fun. Furthermore, I might pop my head in and see what the heck went down in the Earth-1610/Ultimates continuity in regard to Moon Knight (or maybe even more non-616 continuities???). Please feel free to share with me any Moon Knight content you’d like me to investigate and post about as I am definitely open to suggestions hahaha
For those of you who like my comic commentary in general (which???? still never fails to amaze me that some of you not only read the clownery I leave in the tags but actually look forward to them; can’t thank y’all enough and I’m incredibly honored), I’m already thinking about which comic book character I would like to read through next 😅, on a separate side-blog I’d be working on concurrently of course hahaha. The list of possibilities is currently as follows:
Kaine: Scarlet Spider
Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider
Nate Grey: X-Man
Ted Sallis: Man-Thing
Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen: Cloak and Dagger
Bob Reynolds: The Sentry
There are also some DC characters I’d like to tackle some day (namely Scott Free/Mister Miracle and Big Barda, Bart Allen/Impulse, Conner Kent/Kon-El/Superboy, and Cassandra Cain), but I’d first like to nail down some reading lists that span DC’s many continuity reboots, which my cursory research have yet to yield.
Just let me know if there are any characters listed here (or others? I’m amendable) that you would like to see me dive into on my next side-blog. Right now, I’m leaning towards Kaine (and not only because he has close to only a quarter of the comic book appearances that Moon Knight does hahaha).
In conclusion, thank you once more for accompanying me on this adventure and I can’t wait to read many, many more comics with you all.
Also, I would just to like to leave this here, collected from What The --?! (Vol. 1/1988), #13:
Might I present to you...MooKnight
#just some housekeeping#ach I feel so bad for people who just started following as I wish there was more I could offer you#or maybe you might prefer that I don't unleash 20 posts a clip on your timelines#😅😅😅#in any case I'm happy you're here for as long as you'd like to stay :DDD

Closet Conversation
Tim and Kon have had a thing going for a little while now--a friends-with-benefits kind of things. But Tim isn't sure he can't keep up the pretense of only friendly feelings towards Kon. So things start to come out... That's basically it.
Read on AO3
Read on Tumblr below the cut
Tim found himself hating Kon just a little bit when the Kryptonian finally pulled completely away and didn’t seem even nearly as out of breath as he was. Sweat made Tim’s face damp and he willed his arm not to swipe at his forehead, chest still heaving.
Kon grinned at him—teeth blindingly white and lips still swollen—as he began to reach for his costume pieces.
“I think I have a new favorite room here,” he said with a wink.
Tim pushed down the emotions—and arousal—that evoked and rolled his eyes.
“If every place we did anything like this in ended up as your favorite room, half the Tower would be your favorite.”
Kon raised and wagged his eyebrows.
“Exactly.”
Tim scoffed and turned around, searching for the discarded pieces of his uniform. In the midst of their little…tryst, the oddest things ended up in the oddest places. His boots were in opposite corners and his cape was stuck over the door handle.
“One of these days someone is going to need something in one of these closets and they’re going to find way more than they expected.”
Kon snorted.
“So what? Good for them.”
Tim tensed for a split second before going back to getting dressed. Their friends with benefits arrangement was mutually beneficial. Kon got out his insane amounts of pent-up sexual tension, Tim got stress relief and the added bonus of close proximity to his current crush/best friend. If he could even still call it a crush after the past few years.
Maybe it was the Bat-training, maybe it was his attempt at keeping feelings out of the whole thing, whatever the reason, Tim was finished getting dressed even as Kon was still looking for his top. Tim allowed himself to watch as his friend floated up to the top of a cabinet. His butt looked good at this angle. Tim felt his cheeks flush and turned around, crossing his arms. Robin tradition or not, he mused bitterly on the stories he had heard from Dick, messing around in random rooms in Titans Tower does not seem smart or safe.
“That was dumb,” he muttered under his breath, closing his eyes.
“What was?” Came Kon’s voice most definitely too loud and too close.
Tim whirled and glared at his…friend.
“This,” he gestured at them both, at the room. “This whole thing was and every time we have done it and probably every time we will do it. It’s a dumb thing with dumb perks.”
Kon furrowed his brows, blue eyes glinting.
“What’s dumb about it?”
Tim scoffed.
“Everything. It’s firstly unsanitary,” Kon outright laughed. Tim pursed his lips. “Secondly, it could end causing problems between teammates.”
Kon tilted his head.
“How so? Unless you don’t like my skills,” here the half-Kryptonian wiggled his hips, “I don’t see any reason to stop.”
Tim felt his heart jump and his blood roil. Ignoring the fact that Kon could hear all the ways his body was betraying him if he was even bothering to pay attention, Tim continued. He turned around again, crossing his arms.
“Say you and Cassie get back together, or you meet someone else. It just would be problematic!”
Kon shrugged and pulled his shirt on. He went to tuck it in as Tim spoke again.
“That was dumb.”
“I know. I heard you the first three times.”
“Crazy dumb. Crazy, stupid sticking fingers into light sockets kind of dumb.”
Tim glared at the wall, not saying anything else. Before he knew what was happening, Kon was pinning him against the wall just as he had been before, only this time both his hands were above his head and Kon wasn’t touching him anywhere else.
“What’s so dumb about this, Tim?” He asked in a low, sultry voice. It wasn’t exactly the same as his sex voice, a little more serious and less out-of-breath, but still far from his hero's voice.
“Is there something that bothers you about this Tim, or is it something about me?”
Tim swallowed, his throat suddenly extremely dry. Even though they had just spent quite a bit of time in there, certain parts of his body were telling him they were more than willing and ready to go another round, maybe even two, with Kon.
“This isn’t a personal commentary on either of us, Superboy.”
Kon leaned in closer to Tim but still didn’t touch him anywhere else. The familiar tingling of his TTK wound its way up from his ankles to rest low on his hips, pushing him further into the wall. He attempted to swallow again.
“Isn’t it though? You don’t have any problems with Bart and Jaime, or Steph and Cass.”
Tim tensed and a good portion of his arousal went away.
“Because they’re all in a public, committed relationship. Any of the potential fall-outs are at least partially anticipated.”
Kon pulled back some.
“Really, Tim? You’re going to go full-on Bats on me like this?”
Tim resented the fact that even Kon called him out on his more Bruce-like qualities—it wasn’t like Jason and Dick weren’t enough. He grit his teeth and tried to pull his wrists free from Kon’s hands. The clone didn’t fight him but didn’t let him just slip away, either.
“This has nothing to do with being a Bat, and even if it did that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.”
Kon floated back some, giving Tim some more space without really freeing him.
“No, you’re right,” Kon put a hand through his hair, “this has nothing to with being a Bat. This has everything to do with you and your repressed emotions. It might make you fit in with the rest of your crime-fighting clan but you didn’t inherit it from them.”
Tim contemplated slapping Kon right then and there. The only thing that stopped him was knowing that being the one to initiate physical contact would mean Kon had won in some sick twisted way.
“I’m no detective but I think there’s something else that makes you see this as dumb,” Kon said softly, almost gently.
Tim flinched and closed his eyes. He was by far not prepared for this change in tone. Fighting, he could do—it’s all he and Kon had ever done before they became friends. But emotions, pity? Hell no.
The silence in the closet was deafening, and if his heartbeat was even half as loud to Kon as it was to him he knew there was no point in hiding. They stood there for what felt like hours before he opened his eyes. Behind his mask, he felt a sense of anonymity rarely afforded to Timothy Drake-Wayne. But in front of Kon? Kon-el, Conner Kent, the clone of Superman himself and containing Lex Luthor’s DNA, was not stupid. Even if he liked to be underestimated as such. He knew it was a lost cause that he was going to have to either come up with a really good lie (even by his standards) or tell the truth, as heart-wrenching as it would end up being.
Tim was just about to open his mouth and say—he didn’t know what, but something—when their communicators went off.
“All Titans, come in. We’re needed ASAP!”
Kon pulled all the way back this time and sighed.
“We’ll finish this conversation later.”
Tim didn’t follow Kon out immediately, instead letting his head fall back against the wall.
If I have any say in the matter we won’t.
Tim had almost forgotten about the uncomfortable conversation that happened after his and Kon’s most recent…meeting. Almost. And God did he hate that he couldn’t bring himself to just calling it what it was—sex, unattached and as platonic as it can get sex. Fucking, banging if he wanted to be crude, but it wasn’t much more. No making love for Tim Drake. No, he is much too busy and sleep deprived as it is, let alone emotionally repressed as others had so kindly put it.
He would have completely forgotten about the fact that his best friend (are they even still best friends at this point? What were they supposed to be?) still wanted to talk if it wasn’t for said friend. Tim had hit the showers—finally—after their quick mission. A gangbanger that had gotten too big for his britches decided to dabble in Venom and wrecked a few city blocks by the time they were able to stop him.
While he pulled on some civvies, Tim winced. It was far from the worst battle he had ever been in (hello Ra’s al Ghul, Damian) but bruised ribs were bruised ribs. A knock on his door had him tensing. His schedule did not allow him to spend much more time at Titans Tower. After all, he had business back in Gotham of both the suit-and-tie kind and the crime-fighting kind.
“Come in,” he called out. Whichever Titan it was hopefully wouldn’t take up too much of his time.
He heard his door open but knew immediately it wasn’t Bart or Cassie; both of them would have instantly been chattering about something or other. Tim knew in his gut it was Kon before he turned around.
“Do you need something?” He asked, voice cold in a manner he didn’t frequently use on friends and family, just barely keeping himself from crossing his arms.
Kon made sure the door was shut before walking over to Tim’s desk and sitting in his seat. The clone leaned back a tad, just enough that his t-shirt rode up his jeans some. Tim was suddenly very grateful for Kon’s fashion taste and the fact the high-waisted jeans covered skin that otherwise would have been visible and very distracting.
“Yeah, I do, but not right now. This is more of a…a prelude to talking about what you and I need.”
Tim made the split-second decision to not sit down but did finally give in and cross his arms.
“Fine. I don’t have much time so spit it out.”
He hoped that the minute shaking he could feel wasn’t noticeable, but who was Tim kidding? Even with half of Superman’s genes, this was still a superpowered Kryptonian. He leaned against his dresser, the distance exactly enough to not be awkwardly far away but not so close as to make the conversation too intimate, too personal.
Kon eyed Tim. It wasn’t a sensual checking out or aggressive sizing up, just a drawn out and unsubtle observation. Tim began to fidget, a tell and a nervous habit Dick and Bruce had yet to fully train out of him.
“Well?” He finally prompted, undeniably impatient.
Kon leaned forward, his elbows on his knees and hands clasped together.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about what you brought up earlier, man, and I want you to know that I wasn’t just being a jerk for no reason.”
Tim snorted.
“Like you’ve ever needed a reason to be a jerk.” Kon snapped his head up and glared at Tim.
Tim raised his hands in surrender, genuinely regretting the words.
“Sorry, I’m sorry, that was uncalled for. Continue.”
Kon pursed his lips for a beat before doing just that.
“Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I still stand by what I said earlier even if some of the…personal digs weren’t relevant. It’s a Bats thing to stay emotionally unattached and I’m not like that. I hate it, I actually really hate it. So even though we’ve got this friends-with-benefits thing going on you’re still one of my closest friends. Besides,” he leaned back again, grinning now, a glint in his eyes and the beginnings of a smirk around his mouth, “it’s not liked we don’t keep each other happy.”
Tim swallowed. His heart was racing but he also felt kind of faint. Instinctively the oblivious side of him wondered if he had maybe been poisoned but he knew instantly that that wasn’t the case.
“So you’re saying that you want to keep this up, nothing changing, even though I think it’s dumb?”
Kon groaned and closed his eyes, rubbing his hands over his face.
“I don’t know man. Ideally, there’d be more than just amazing sex in random rooms but since that’s all you’re gonna give that’s all I’m gonna take.”
“Fine b—wait, wait what?” Tim’s voice squeaked in a way it hadn’t in a few years. Kon’s eyebrows furrowed and his cheeks flushed slightly.
“Do you like me?”
Kon looked miffed at having been interrupted but shrugged.
“Yeah, man, I guess. We are friends after all.” Tim stood up and shook his head.
“No, no, you don’t understand. Do you like like-like me? Like, physically and emotionally attracted to me? As in don’t want to just fuck?”
Kon rolled his eyes.
“Well duh. Why do you think I broke it off with Cassie? I straight up seduced you dude, I just realized pretty quickly you weren’t into me on the same level. It’s cool though.”
“Why did you think I’m not into you? I thought it was obvious and you were just humoring me while getting all the benefits.”
Kon raised his eyebrows and opened his mouth to speak but froze. He dropped his head back and started laughing.
“What’s so funny about this?” Tim said, speaking louder so that he could be heard over Kon’s laughter. Emotions were racing through him like a heard of horses but the most prominent one had rapidly become confusion.
“It’s, it’s just that this whole time I, I tho-thought,” Kon wheezed, “thought that you. I don’t know, I just didn’t think you were interested that way.”
Tim felt his jaw metaphorically drop.
“Are you kidding me? We could have been dating this whole time?”
Tim ran his fingers through his hair and gripped it, pacing. Kon stood up and smiled. He walked up to Tim who had begun muttering at light speed, and gently stopped him, holding his shoulders.
“Tim, hey, Rob,” he said softly.
Tim looked up at him and sighed. He bit his bottom lip, and Kon’s eyes flashed down toward his lips.
“Let’s let go of this whole mess and just start over, okay?”
Tim nodded vigorously. Kon grinned and leaned in, kissing him softly. When he pulled back, Tim seemed to be a little in shock.
“So, Robin, Tim Drake-Wayne, would you like to go on a date with me tonight?”
Tim pulled back a little and stared Kon down.
“As much as I want to say yes, I’m way too busy tonight. How about tomorrow? I can make time for a few hours if you can.”
Kon grinned and kissed Tim again, lingering this time.
“I can always make time for you, babe.”
“Babe?”
“Well, yeah, if we’re boyfriends then I reserve the right to call you babe.”
Tim couldn’t deny that he wasn’t getting flustered and flustered quickly.
“Alright, Kon,” Tim grinned, “it’s a date.”

good question -- this is bruce & damian! (though damians definitely taking kon's turtleneck and jacket style, here -- based on the matching trenchcoats bruce n damian have for their batman and robin 2011 civilian outfits innnn i think vol 1?)
also using this as an opportunity to talk about the differences in how i draw them because i LOVE getting into details. i removed skintones just for the sake of making it even harder to tell

After failing to integrate with humanity, the citizens of Kandor use Brainiac’s technology to relocate Kandor to a new planet opposite Earth’s orbit - “New Krypton.”
New Krypton, led by Zod and Ursa, declares war on Earth as the new planet proves to be unstable. Superman and Earth’s heroes drive them off, but not without suffering many losses, which leave Superman as the true last son of Krypton.
2 years ago: The Kent family leaves Metropolis for an extended period of time, taking a trip across America to reconnect with ordinary people. Eventually, they settle down in Hamilton County, Pennsylvania, a rural area west of Metropolis.
1 year ago:
Superman defeats Darkseid, who had returned to Earth in search of the Anti-Life Equation, removing his threat from the universe seemingly for good.
Superman receives a warm welcome back to Metropolis when he’s attacked by Hank Henshaw and his Superman Revenge Squad.
Present Day: Clark helps 8-year-old Jon deal with his sudden development of powers similar to his father’s.
Commentary:
Superman’s origin is so iconic that Grant Morrison summed it up in just eight words: “Doomed planet. Desperate scientists. Last hope. Kindly couple.” In light of this, I see no reason to mess with a good thing. That being said, the story of Superman’s public debut has been retold with major differences four or five times now between the various Crises, and that makes things tricky to pin down.
The version I ended up writing is mostly inspired by Superman: Birthright by Mark Waid. (Sorry, anyone who’s a fan of Clark as Superboy. While I don’t hate the concept, it raises the question of “why doesn’t anyone associate Superboy and thus Superman with Clark?” it doesn’t really bring anything valuable to the table that can’t be put elsewhere in the timeline: the Legion is more associated with Supergirl in this timeline, and Krypto is moved to later on.) His post-Crisis history is mostly intact, although with a few notable omissions, mainly Superman Blue. I hope nobody will miss that too much.
Superman’s history sets the timeline for the rest of the universe - while other heroes’ origins occur before his public debut, he’s the first of the major figures of the Age of Heroes to debut, twenty years prior to the present day. The rest of the Trinity follows within a year of his appearance, along with most of the iconic Silver Age DC heroes. This Superman is forty-five years of age at the current point in the timeline: a seasoned superhero who has saved the world time and time again, but who also lives a simple life as a family man with Lois and Jon.
He may be a Kryptonian by genetics, but at his core, thanks to his upbringing from Ma and Pa Kent, he’s a human - one who happens to have to balance his extraordinary powers and responsibility to the world (wait, is this Spider-Man all of a sudden?) with his alien heritage and the complications derived from such. He’s a champion of the oppressed, standing up for the “little guy” and those who can’t defend themselves against powers both great and small. Out of the Trinity, he best embodies hope - when the situation seems at its most dire, Superman’s the one to keep the faith and rally for one last push. He’s the hero who lands on a rooftop beside someone who’s about to jump and just sits beside them while they make their decision.
As for Superman’s costume, he’s currently sporting the Reborn look, sans trunks. I’m not saying the trunks are outright bad or silly, and envision them as being part of his original costume for certain, but the costume in the header is what he currently uses in this universe.
Have any questions about Superman or anything else? My asks are open!

4. Do you outline before you start writing? If so, how far do you stray from that outline?
Sometimes! Sometimes I don’t use an outline at all, and sometimes I outline while I write. If it’s a shorter fic, I probably won’t use an outline unless I get pretty far into it and need to stop. And then I usually scribble down which scenes I plan to write. I definitely need an outline for longer fics, but I sometimes start writing first so I have a better sense of what the fic is going to feel like. How far I stray really depends on when I outline. If I outline first, I may stray for pacing or plot purposes. If I outlined in the middle, I might stray a little when I realize I want more scenes.
15. A Hollywood producer tells you that they want to film just one of your fics. Which fic would you want it to be?
Ohhhh, that’s so hard. Maybe Past Tensions? I wrote it as kind of a commentary on superhero stuff, so I feel like it would translate relatively well. On the other hand, I would absolutely love to see the Single Dad Clark AU adapted. Yes, it’s not “one” fic, but it’s kind of still. one fic.
18. What is a line/scene you’re really proud of? Give us the DVD commentary for that scene.
:3c This question excites me so much. I had to skim through a few fics to decide just one, but I did it... even if it’s a long scene, so it’s under a cut. (Scene from Infinity and Apple Pie, very spoilery!)
When Brainiac took Metropolis, Kon had been in Hawaii. He couldn’t enjoy the sunshine or the waves, but he could sit there and remember how they’d felt. Some days, that was enough.
I really wanted to drive home how being a ghost feels, especially since I hadn’t addressed it much in the fic. Kon hadn’t really thought about the problems before because it hadn’t really sunk in what being dead entailed. And by this point, he’s really starting to miss being alive, seeing how little he actually gets by hanging around. But he’s still doing.
He didn’t hear a thing about Metropolis until one of the families started a ruckus.
“Mom! Mama! Metropolis is gone!” The kid on their phone yelled until their moms came rushing over. Kon could hear the video from his spot on the sand.
Gay, gay, homosexual, gay.
“—aerial view reveals that Metropolis, home of Superman, has vanished without a trace. A clear line marks the area, through bridges and—”
Kon shot up.
“It’s as of yet unknown whether Superman was in Metropolis at the time—”
Even if he wasn’t, Lois and Jon Samuel probably were. Kon flew to Metropolis first—or rather, where Metropolis was supposed to be. Just as the news reports had said, it was gone, leaving nothing but a sunken patch of dirt and dozens of crumbling bridges. Other heroes from neighboring cities had already sprung into action.
“Let them save everyone,” Kon hoped and turned for Smallville instead.
I’m not very good at writing action scenes, so I was hoping for a minimalist effect in describing the damage.
Kon remembered the first time he’d been in Smallville during tornado season. Ma and Pa had settled in the living room, peeking outside every so often to look at the clouds. The meteorologist had warned everyone to settle in a room without windows, a basement preferably. But they insisted.
“We’ll know when it’s time to go underground. We can’t keep an eye on it down there,” Pa had scoffed.
Tornado Alley rights! Bitches love watching tornados!
It wasn’t surprising to find them on the porch for this, the sky less green clouds of a thunderstorm and more a pink-gray haze. Unnatural but just as fascinating.
“Our boy will save the day,” Pa promised now, clutching Ma to his chest. Kon found himself filled with the urge to fly back to Gotham, find Tim, just in case—
But Kon didn’t go anywhere. He stared at the sky and waited. After all, Superman would save the day.
When the clouds receded, Pa turned to Ma and grinned. “Everything’s going to be alright now,” he promised. Then he froze. He lifted his right hand to clutch at his left arm.
“Jonathan,” Ma said. She looked up at the sky. “Clark!”
Tim had made everyone on Young Justice take first aid. Kon recognized the signs too easily. He couldn’t do a thing to change it.
So, this was where I really wanted Lara’s warning to come into effect. Like, yes, she had been warning about everything else Kon had watched. Yes, he’d had to watch his girlfriend join a cult. Yes, he’d had to see Tim try to clone him. Yes, Bart died. But I think there’s something really scary about seeing a family member in pain like this. And the difference between the Kents and the superhero world is how mundane this is. Pa has a heart attack. In canon, he dies because Clark can’t get there in time. Here, Kon has to watch, and it’s so different.
“Do you want to watch this?” Lara asked. She sat on the Kents’ porch swing, a real picture in her Kryptonian garb, all finery against cracked wood.
“Pa’s having a heart attack! I can’t just leave!” Kon snapped. “I have to be able to do something! Clark can’t hear him. He’d be here by now if—”
“Clark!” Ma wailed, a little louder.
“Kon-El. There is nothing you can do,” Lara said firmly. “Please, stop torturing yourself.”
Ma couldn’t hold Pa up by herself. They’d both slumped on the ground. Pa’s head lolled to the side. He stared at the porch, eyes squinted. “C— Conner…”
Kon’s face went white. “He—”
I know someone asked me about this, but yes, Pa sees Kon because he’s dying. :) This would be very effective in an actual comic, I think.
“You don’t have to watch,” Lara said.
“No!” Kon shouted. “I’m not letting go. Pa can’t die. I’m still here for a reason!”
“Because you refuse to—”
“That’s right. I refuse.” Kon stood a little straighter before taking flight down the road into Smallville proper.
There was only one hospital in Smallville, and the EMTs sat outside the ambulance bay to watch the storm. Kon sunk to his knees in front of the first.
“Help me,” he begged. “Please, please hear me. We need help. At the Kent farm. Jonathan Kent had a heart attack. Please.”
“What a storm,” the first said.
“Prob’ly one of those alien attacks again. You saw that report on Metropolis, right?” The second lifted her phone and started scrolling.
“Listen to me! Please, you have to help! At the Kent farm. Please!”
The third leaned to look. “It’s back now?”
“Weird,” said the first.
“Please,” Kon said. “Please. My grandpa is dying!” He slumped forward.
“Did you hear that?”
Kon lifted his head. The second EMT had narrowed her eyes, skimming the area.
“Please,” he said more frantically, “my grandpa is dying! He’s had a heart attack. At the Kent farm! Hurry!”
“We… we have to go to the Kent farm,” the second EMT said, standing up. “Now.”
“What?” the third asked. “We haven’t gotten a call—”
“We have to go,” she said firmly.
I considered having Kon track an ambulance down on the road, but I was like, wait, how would I make it clear he’s not taking an ambulance from someone else who needed one? How would he even find an ambulance? Would Smallville have more than one? This seemed neater.
Kon let out a breath of relief and rode in the back of the ambulance all the way back to the farm. When the sirens reached the front of the house, Ma looked up and sobbed in relief.
“Help! My husband—” she yelled.
The EMTs started their work without hesitation, and Kon’s eyes watered.
“I did it,” he said.
“Did you?” Lara asked. She hummed. “Your medicine is so primitive. I hope it’s effective.”
“Don’t start that right now,” Kon snapped.
Lara tilted her head. “I’m… not. I hope you can save your grandfather’s life.”
Kon stared at her, twenty-five and never growing older, a woman with so much potential who had lost everything save the opportunity to see her son. “You never moved on,” he said.
Lara smiled. “No. I must admit that I… find enough gratification in seeing my family,” she said. “And Jonathan Kent cared for my son when I could not. I will never have enough gratitude to the people who loved him as much as I do.”
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I was trying to do with Lara at first. The longer I built up the “afterlife” in this world, the more I realized I didn’t have a good excuse for her to be there. After all, Bart and Kon weren’t staying dead when they moved on. They were coming back to life at the right time. I didn’t really want to answer any actual afterlife questions either, so I didn’t want to say Lara was coming back and forth just to visit Kon and help him.
Then I wrote this scene, and it hit me. Lara is watching over Clark. It’s interesting to build her character because she’s so often neglected for Jor-El. I wanted her to be a slightly awkward, clinical mind. And I really wanted to drive home her loss in comparison to the Kents. If Pa died, it would be sad, but he’s also not a young man. Anyway, this fic kind of works if you consider any Mr. Oz stories as a possibility because Jor-El isn’t even really mentioned. Lara is dead for sure. But Jor... Who knows?
Clark arrived just as the EMTs had loaded Pa into the back of the ambulance, an old flannel and jeans thrown on. “Ma, is Pa okay?”
In canon, he arrives as Superman, but he couldn’t do that here.
“They’re taking him to the hospital. But he’s— he’s—” Ma sobbed and dabbed at her eyes with her handkerchief. “Oh, I don’t even know how they knew to be here. Praise the Lord.”
The second EMT ushered them both into the back of the ambulance. “It’s funny that you say that,” she said. “I… I could have sworn I heard a boy yelling. ‘My grandpa had a heart attack. On the Kent farm. Please help!’ Something like that.”
Clark and Ma exchanged looks.
“Jon Samuel is—”
“In Metropolis, with Lois,” Clark said. “No, he’s not— He couldn’t have—”
The best/worst part of writing is trying to use as few words to say something as possible. Clark and Ma know something is up, but they don’t know how to address it. They know it’s not Jon. But also, how could it be anyone else? Especially considering the complicated familial relationships Kon has, it was fun to try to put together the right words.
Lara held out her hand for Kon. This time, he took it.

anon/honesty hour: top 5 animated movies
I hope you realise just how painful it is for me to cut my preciousess down to just 5 films and you will realise how entirely incapable of that I was when you get to the end.
Top Five Animated Film, in no particular order;
Lilo & Stitch - When I am having a hard time of it, this one is at the absolute top of my list. The charactisations and comedy in this film are spot on and relatable af. Nani and Lilo are the most siblingy siblings I’ve ever seen in pretty much anything. Song of the Sea - When I was little the Secret of Roan Inish was one of my favourite movies of all time, so you can’t imagine my delight to discover that Cartoon Saloon and the makers of The Secret of Kells made a film about selkies (and family) in their frankly breathtaking style. I’m not ashamed to admit that this film had me ugly crying by the end.Tokyo Godfathers - Confession; I actually hate Christmas movies. They’re cheesy and saccharine and othering to me personally. I didn’t celebrate the holiday growing up so I have absolutely zero sentiment for the holiday and the associated festivities. Having said that, I absolutely love this movie. Found family trope for the win. Probably the least traumatic film Satoshi Kon ever wrote and definitely the film I’d introduce to potential fans to first. Princess Mononoke - There used to be a time when I said Spirited Away was my favourite Ghibli animated feature, but as I’ve grown and matured I’ve found myself gravitate towards the ambiguity of this film. Also giant forest god is very yes. The Road to El Dorado - By rights Prince of Egypt should be here for its frankly phenomenal soundtrack and animation alone, but no I am a trashy polyam queer and The Road to El Dorado is the one I go back to time and time again because it’s fun and has the OT3 to end all OT3s.
Honourable Mentions;
The Goofy Movie (and sequel) for being a genuinely great father and dad film, even though I don’t actually like Goofy at all (it’s the voice I won’t lie.) The execution is genuinely that good.Mulan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame for being, imo the best Disney animated musicals. Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet for being weird and unique with fascinating worldbuilding, and generally being super underrated Disney animated feature films that if you haven’t seen really should. The Prince of Egypt for reasons already discussed. The Secret of Kells and The Breadwinner for being breathtakingly beautiful and making me ugly cry. Watch them if you can.Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out for being so intrinsically linked to my father lovingly and passionately introducing me to the world to the world of animation to the point of being able to make me feel so very small and young and full of awe and love whenever I watch it.Only Yesterday for being a very deep, understated film about growing up and being your own person. There’s no monsters or aliens or trippy animation, it’s just... adulthood presented in a way that doesn’t make it seem like the soul crushing thing it can be. This tends to get ignored in favour of Ghibli’s more fantastical films but if you’re at a crossroads in your life and you don’t know what major life decision you’re going to go with, I heartily recommend this filmLa Planète sauvage for being absolute batshit sci-fi with nonsense worldbuilding and genuine socio-political commentary that applies to the real world, and I have so much respect for it for these reasons.Pachamama for being a good story about the power of stories and making me sit up and pay attention when I was watching it last month. Good film to show little ones.
#ask meme#honestly I could have gotten more in depth because I LOVE animation#it is one of my greatest joys in life#I will never not be adding or switching my fav list#and I will never not be sidetracked and create much bigger lists than required because ANIMATION YOU GUYES!!!1#Anonymous
