i never really cared for anime protagonists so in the very beginning he was just some guy to me. like i thought he was admirable and inspirational and stuff, but i didn't expect him to stand out much compared to other characters yk. then i read the manga and HOLY SHIT that changed so much 💀 it was a gradual thing. during the first few episodes i just thought "cool. he's the protagonist. he's compelling enough i guess." when i reached the later half of the anime i was like "okay wow he's a REALLY compelling protagonist damn. his approach to soccer/football and life in general is fascinating. maybe i should try to adopt some of his philosophies." then when i reached the manga arcs that came afterward, i added him to my list of favs but he wasn't quite at the top yet. FINALLY i reached the manshine game and the whole metavision thing floored me. that was when i decided he was my #1 fav (but tbh he and kaiser switch spots every now and then. rn isagi is my #1)

sam is kitted up to watch barbie, all pink, makeup on point, might even put temp dye in their hair. they'd be the only one theorizing and going all film theory afterwards, picking out subtle easter eggs, plot points, and nudges towards modern society. new fav movie for sure.

angel wanted to see oppenheimer but never got the time, you know, being stuck at work and all that. they did however find time to watch barbie because aurora threatened to hold her breath until she got to see it on the big screen and what parent wouldn't cave. they zonked off in the middle of it though, much needed accidental nap.

thirteen, uh, "downloaded" both but never watched either of them, they're just two more titles added to their ever growing collection of 'to watch' list that hasn't gotten any smaller since 2010. cretin hasn't even watched titanic yet, so they'll probably never get around to these two.

I finally did it. Damn, this took me many hours, but it was so worth it. It was challenging for me with the number of characters, and I love challenges. Thank you so much for requesting it!

I couldn't imagine Haizaki in this scene naturally, so I added Momoi, Takao and grown up Nigou instead! This is the gang in my heart. 💙

I didn't imagine them in any particular living room, because I didn't want to be restricted with so much already going on, but when the picture was ready, I realized I had drawn a scene from my next planned fic, where they celebrate graduation by taking a trip together and stay in a house that turns out to be haunted. This would probably be their first night there, when nothing weird has happened yet. It's based on the novel Haunting of Hill House, and it was supposed to be an Aomine centric fic, but while looking at this picture I started feeling like it might benefit from switching POVs between everyone.

The wallpaper was the last detail I drew, and it was right after that when I heard a conversation between Aomine and Kagami in my head, Kagami saying he felt like the walls were full of eyes that were staring at them, and Aomine being like "Nah, they're boobs." That's how I realized they were in the haunted house, haha.

For someone who reads my fics, this picture is going to be so much fun to analyse, by the way. You have to zoom in a lot though. (Someone coming to me with a list of all the Easter eggs and riddles I put there, with their analysis about them, would be a day to remember. I'll just say most of them have multiple meanings or things they refer to. And some of them actually refer to the future.)

I love that I drew this, even though there's a lot I would still want to do better. I spent so much time getting the proportions right, only to realize too late that they still weren't quite right. But I like the interaction in there, and I think Murasakibara is my favourite part, since I had never drawn him before, but he turned out quite well, I think.

The process of drawing this was so much fun. It was so stimulating for my brain! Always up for complex requests. ✨

Everyone needs a fun iconic bag! Bags in general are super necessary for going out and having a good sturdy bag makes life easier.

I have had the suspicion in the last few days that I've been missing posts from my main dashboard, despite my keeping up with it. Like the other day, I accidentally went into one of the other tabs I usually ignore, and right at the top I saw an art post by someone I follow that I swear I never saw in my main feed, which I keep up with constantly. Or people's self-reblogs suddenly being the first time I saw the post despite me being pretty sure I'd scrolled the whole way through it. There had better not be some algorithmic shenanigans at play on the main dashboard suddenly. I hope it was just me scrolling too fast and not registering them in my tired brain, and they aren't getting disappeared on purpose so that Tumblr can have me 'discover' them elsewhere.

I don't want a favs tab. My dashboard is my favs tab. I've chosen those people to follow, because I want to see their content.

I don't need a 'what you missed' tab, because I shouldn't be missing posts if they display them correctly and in order.

I can see Fast Queue being handy for those who use the queue, at least. I almost almost gave that one a switch on, because out of all these things to test, it sounds genuinely useful. Except then I remembered I don't really use the queue (I should. I used to, back in the day, but I fell out of the habit when I fell off tumblr for a bit). So it's pointless for me to test that one out right now.

Anyway, I immediately turned Tumblr Labs off again. I originally clicked into it to find out what they meant by testing out 'Communities', but found absolutely nothing on that Tumblr Labs page in reference to it, just this annoying list of unwanted features. 🤷‍♀️

All I want them to do right now is: fix all the text formatting nightmares I keep having with the app (does anyone else fight with italics/bold on mobile or is this more of an issue with my device?), figure out a solve for the porn bots that keep co-opting tags, and move their ad-free-for-30-minutes option to the top of the page (because I'm more likely to actually agree to it at the start of my browsing, rather than when I'm almost done and it'll cause a page refresh).

Also I signed on to desktop tumblr for the first time in a very long time the other day and boy is it ugly and cluttered just like FB and Twitter. They need to revert that nonsense back to favouring actual dashboard content ASAP.

I hope you realise just how painful it is for me to cut my preciousess down to just 5 films and you will realise how entirely incapable of that I was when you get to the end. 

Top Five Animated Film, in no particular order;

Lilo & Stitch - When I am having a hard time of it, this one is at the absolute top of my list. The charactisations and comedy in this film are spot on and relatable af. Nani and Lilo are the most siblingy siblings I’ve ever seen in pretty much anything. Song of the Sea - When I was little the Secret of Roan Inish was one of my favourite movies of all time, so you can’t imagine my delight to discover that Cartoon Saloon and the makers of The Secret of Kells made a film about selkies (and family) in their frankly breathtaking style. I’m not ashamed to admit that this film had me ugly crying by the end.Tokyo Godfathers - Confession; I actually hate Christmas movies. They’re cheesy and saccharine and othering to me personally. I didn’t celebrate the holiday growing up so I have absolutely zero sentiment for the holiday and the associated festivities. Having said that, I absolutely love this movie. Found family trope for the win. Probably the least traumatic film Satoshi Kon ever wrote and definitely the film I’d introduce to potential fans to first. Princess Mononoke - There used to be a time when I said Spirited Away was my favourite Ghibli animated feature, but as I’ve grown and matured I’ve found myself gravitate towards the ambiguity of this film. Also giant forest god is very yes. The Road to El Dorado - By rights Prince of Egypt should be here for its frankly phenomenal soundtrack and animation alone, but no I am a trashy polyam queer and The Road to El Dorado is the one I go back to time and time again because it’s fun and has the OT3 to end all OT3s.

Honourable Mentions;

The Goofy Movie (and sequel) for being a genuinely great father and dad film, even though I don’t actually like Goofy at all (it’s the voice I won’t lie.) The execution is genuinely that good.Mulan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame for being, imo the best Disney animated musicals. Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet for being weird and unique with fascinating worldbuilding, and generally being super underrated Disney animated feature films that if you haven’t seen really should.The Prince of Egypt for reasons already discussed.The Secret of Kells and The Breadwinner for being breathtakingly beautiful and making me ugly cry. Watch them if you can.Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out for being so intrinsically linked to my father lovingly and passionately introducing me to the world to the world of animation to the point of being able to make me feel so very small and young and full of awe and love whenever I watch it.Only Yesterday for being a very deep, understated film about growing up and being your own person. There’s no monsters or aliens or trippy animation, it’s just... adulthood presented in a way that doesn’t make it seem like the soul crushing thing it can be. This tends to get ignored in favour of Ghibli’s more fantastical films but if you’re at a crossroads in your life and you don’t know what major life decision you’re going to go with, I heartily recommend this filmLa Planète sauvage for being absolute batshit sci-fi with nonsense worldbuilding and genuine socio-political commentary that applies to the real world, and I have so much respect for it for these reasons.Pachamama for being a good story about the power of stories and making me sit up and pay attention when I was watching it last month. Good film to show little ones.

Honestly at this point your opinions make way too much sense that they don’t feel heretical at all.

But if I had to pick Voldemort would be the top of the list, followed by Aro, followed by Tom Riddle. (I know they’re the same person but fandom treats them as different people.)

Voldemort apologists (not to say you’re an apologist but in the sense of him not being evilest evil to walk the earth) tend to be weirdly racist as hell (they try to justify he was doing the right thing with keeping out muggleborns but went too far because the eleven year olds are a danger to their culture somehow!?) and they treat him as a different person from Tom (which you don’t) so he tops the list.

But fandom does have a lot of Tom Riddle apologists, more than Aro apologists (while still sticking to all the canon - killing rabbits and murdering sisters included. I guess it might be down to a lot of fandom hating Dumbledore and the way he treats people, Tom included, and Tom Riddle being a little orphan who might have been bullied; while Aro is like an ancient evil guy on top of the government of the superior species.)

This is of course according to my personal experience in fandom. Maybe we should have a poll?

I have this relevant post on fandoms, though. Basically, the darksider fan corner of the Harry Potter fandom (Well, there were several corners that weren't necessarily associated. Bellatrix stans who ship Bellamort, for instance, will be very separate from dark!Harry fans who ship Tomarry, yet both camps will say "ew, mudbloods") is weird. I think for some it might be a need to justify their favorites, so they launch into explanations of how immigrants muggleborns actually are a problem sometimes and it's "hoo boy you didn't think this one through at all did you" from there.

Meanwhile, Aro's fans tend to reject canon outright. One of the few things we know about the guy is that he killed Didyme, yet you'll see a lot weaseling out of that one. No need to explain away the terrible things your fav does if you pretend they never happened!

Additionally a lot of fans, of both, seem to be very much about the aesthetic, to the point where you could switch the Volturi out for Death Eaters or Sith or you name it, and the difference would be negligible.

It's one big mess that some academic out there could probably have a lot of fun studying.

Voldemort and Aro are really very different, though, not just as characters (Aro is a law enforcer trying to enforce this one (1) law and people cry foul for it, Voldemort is the leader of a terrorist movement seeking to evict the marginalized member of a community. Voldemort's story is tied with racism, Aro's is not.) but also in that their fandoms are very different beasts. I... don't even know where I would begin to compare the two.

I will say this, though, I think a big reason why there are more Tom apologists is that Harry Potter is a bigger and more diverse fandom. Twilight was big in its heyday, but EdBella reigned supreme in a way no one ship or character has ever reigned supreme in Harry Potter. Just look at the numbers - fanfiction.net has 216k Twilight fics, Bella stars as a tagged character (and keep in mind it was only in 2013 that they added more character slots, by which time the Twilight craze was past its heyday. Odds are Bella is one of two tagged characters in a lot of these) in 115k of them. Aro, by contrast, is a tagged character in a whooping 1.6k fics. Harry Potter, meanwhile, has 633k fanfictions total, and Harry Potter is a tagged character in 167k of them. Voldemort is in 13.2k fics, Tom is in 8.9k.

It's a bit pointless to be pulling out these numbers when I'm not doing more with them (calculating percentages, using more examples, giving you guys diagrams to visualize them), but I'm trying to illustrate that Twilight is centralized and conformist in a way Harry Potter never was. You'll still find fringe groups in Twilight, but they'll be tiny and consist of like, two people. I mean, it speaks volumes that @edwardsmate4ever is the only Jakeward shipper I know of on tumblr.

All of this rambling to ineloquently say that Aro fans being the way they are, and Voldemort/Tom fans being a different way, is as much born of who the characters are as it is what the fandoms are like.

One time someone pulled a random u-turn in front of him so he had to slam on his brakes but his first instinct was to swing his arm over you and then ask if you’re ok 😕

HE WAS SO SILENT TOO no honking, no gasp, and when he asked if you were ok he literally just went “you good?” In a super soft voice

He is ALWAYS humming something to himself and if you ask what he’s humming he doesn’t get embarrassed just excited to tell you :) but you’re obligated to listen to the song after too

And he always has a favorite part and he’ll go omg it’s coming up it’s it’s right here ugh omg did you hear that? And play it for you one more time

He just can’t get rid of anything electronic it scares him

He has all his old phones, game systems and an old laptop stored away somewhere

“Where the hell do I even throw them away??! There’s no way they go in the regular trash cause, like, there’s acid in them or some shit. And all my personal info is on there! And they say you should shred any paper with your info before you recycle it, and I can’t shred my mf PHONE!”

Sometimes he thinks he wants a nose piercing but he has a fear of it getting ripped out in his sleep or something (I’ve had it happen, it was god awful, I have so many nose piercing horror stories...)

I feel like he has a habit of having to keep his hands busy and fidget with stuff so when he’s doing something mindless like watching TV he’s pulling on his bottom lip or pulling at the skin around his nails, but one time your head was in his lap and so he started just running his fingers along your skin or playing with your hair if he could and now he prefers doing that instead 🥺

He just pats his lap and looks at you with a lil smile expecting you to cuddle up

Touch Me, Trust Me [Touch-Starved] - POTOber Prompt, Erik Destler (Gerard Butler) x Reader

(A/N:  This is a story I'm submitting for day 6 of POTOber on Tumblr, hosted by @coatntails .  The prompt is Touch Me, Trust Me, and the assisting suggestions are Touch Starved/Hunger/Lust. Linked below is the prompt list.)

You walked down the winding staircase to the catacombs of the Opera House, making your way to your daily meeting with your boyfriend, Erik. From just a quarter of the way down the stairs, you could hear his aggressive organ music; he must have been very angry. Concerned, you kept on walking, unafraid of approaching him because you knew that despite how...conspicuously Erik's rage always manifested, he would never, ever lay a hand on those he loved. You completed the journey in due time. You walked up beside Erik to see if he would acknowledge you; he did not. He never stopped playing, and did not so much as glance at you. But he did not growl at you to leave either, which meant you were welcome in his space. He also played his keys softer; though they never faltered in intensity, the overall volume was lessened. You smiled at his consideration of your ears.

After a little longer, you put a hand on his back. As if a switch had been flipped, his fingers froze and his body jerked up slightly, which you felt. You could feel that his back was tensed up, and from the looks of his shoulders, they were as well, because he was expectant of you to give explanation for your action. Slowly, he turned his head to look at you at last, confusion in his eyes. You offered him a small but affectionate smile. "What's the matter?" you asked softly, in case any indelicacy on your part would make him uncomfortable.

You saw his eyebrows begin to frown sadly before he looked away from you, hanging his head and tilting it to the side. "It's nothing..." His voice was even softer than yours, because it was hesitant and sad.

You let out a huff through your nose - never in a million years would you believe that.  Without a warning, you stepped towards him, murmured a, "Come here," and wrapped your arms around him, pulling him into you until he was turned to you and your fronts were pressed against each other.  You had both arms around his waist and were pressing the side of your head into his chest, your eyes open because it was your turn to anticipate his reaction.  For a few moments, he froze up again, his arms out to the side, forearms towards his front.

Gradually, jaggedly, his arms lowered, and they were placed around you tentatively as he got a feel for his emotional response to your embrace.  As he became more sure of what he wanted, he gently pulled you, still embracing you, to his sofa.  Briefly, very briefly, he let go so that he could sit down and pulled you onto his lap.  Immediately, his arms made their way to your back and upwards so that he could grip your shoulders from behind, and you had your arms around his upper back, one hand rubbing up and down his back.  He buried his face in the top of your shoulder, rubbing his face against it until his mask loosened and fell off his face, dropping to the floor with a slight clatter.  With his mask off, he comfortably pushed his face into your shoulder.  His fingers were digging into your skin and burned a little, but that was alright; he was desperate for your touch, for your comfort.  You had hugged and kissed him many times before, but no matter how much physical affection you gave him, he still absorbed it like a starving man everytime you touched him - and you always understood why, always happily held him, and never rejected him.

When you felt tears soak through your shirt, you turned your head and kissed the side of his.  "It's okay..." you whispered, sliding your hand up into his hair and rubbing his head, your other hand rubbing his back, neither of you caring that you pushed the wig off.

He merely gripped you tightly and cried into your shoulder, needing you.  You heard soft, miserable whimpers...poor Erik.  He removed one of his hands and took the arm of yours whose hand was on his back.  He guided it underneath his jacket, so that you rubbed him through his shirt.  As he was about to reach for your other arm, you moved your hand yourself.  However, you heard him murmur, "Under my shirt..."

You did as he requested; you untucked his shirt from his trousers and put your hands on the skin of his lower back; he let out such a loud relieved sigh, and you even felt his body relaxing.  Aside from his skin, you could feel the multitude of scars and old wounds he had on his back, the extent and positions of which you had memorised from the many times you had seen and traced them.  While you slid one of your hands further up his back, the fingers of the other began to trace his scars.  With each progression of movement your hand and fingers made he tensed and immediately relaxed, sighing shakily everytime.  You closed your eyes and kissed his head again.  "You want more?" you whispered.  He knew what you meant; he had you do it a lot of the times he was in a bad mental space and needed you to soothe him.  So you both stood up, and walked to his bed (the proper one).  As Erik walked, he took off his shirt and jacket, not caring that they dropped onto the floor, and then he let himself fall face down onto his bed.  You sat down beside him and picked up where you left off with tracing his scars, with both hands this time.  He let out a loud groan, mixed with relief and frustration.  But he was not crying anymore, which meant that he was feeling a bit better.  You kept doing it, moving to kiss along his scars as well, following the movements of one of your hands.  You made sure that he felt comforted and knew that he was loved.

After a while, you noticed that Erik was no longer responding to the stimuli.  Instead, his back rose and fell steadily with his slow breaths.  You checked his face, and saw that he was asleep.  You smiled fondly; his emotions must have taken a lot out of him.  You lay down beside him.  In his sleep, he scooted over to you and curled into your side.  You gladly held him, being gentle so as not to wake him up.  Though you did not fall asleep yourself, you closed your eyes and rested, appreciating the silence, peace, and most of all, the presence and company of the man beside you.

Favorite and Least Favorite Ghidorah Incarnations

Probably gonna regret making this post, but it’s been a long time coming, so let’s do it. I guess I should warn, not suitable for people sensitive to opinions that might be different from their own. Can’t believe I have to say that about a list of fav Ghidorahs, but alas...

Let’s start with my Top 5 favorite Ghidorahs! Going from my most favorite down! All five of these are amazing and any one can easily become my #1 at any given time! :D But at the moment, my number 1 is...

Showa Ghidorah

Showa Ghidorah should come to nobody’s surprise, given how much I’ve been writing about him lately! I admit though, it wasn’t always like this. It took some time for him to grow on me, and he actually used to be one of my least favorite through design alone. But he has grown exponentially on me, and now I love everything about him! The manes are unique and I love the crescent moons on his heads too. His eyes are so big, and I feel they have more expression compared to other Ghidorahs. And the inspiration of the more traditional Eastern-style dragon is there in his face too. 

His backstory and personality, though, is what really got me to change my mind about the character. His personality is perfect as far as I’m concerned! Coming from space to destroy planets just for the lolz, cackling maniacally all the way! Even the fact he was mind-controlled was something for me to delve into in my stories, on how such a thing impacts the character. It really opened my eyes to the more subtle parts to his personality, like I realize that Ghiddy wants NOTHING to do with Earth. He tried to destroy it once and that failure is all he needed to know to stay away. The plot device of mind-control is used to keep him coming back in future movies! Even when he defeated Godzilla and Rodan, he chose to fly away back into space! There’s layers to his character if you look deep enough!

There’s just so much story-potential to this guy, I love it! Even in real life, he has an arc, going from one of my least favorites to being the top of this list! That’s definitely special!

Overall, a lot of love for this character, often wrestling with Legendary for the number 1 spot! Speaking of which...

Legendary Ghidorah

The one that started it all for me and they’re second on the list?! Blasphemy!! Nah, seriously though, Showa and Legendary really do often switch places for me all the time! Just right now, Showa has squeezed into the top spot. For now........

Anyway, Legendary Ghidorah needs no explanation for being a favorite incarnation of the character. Whilst Godzilla has always been a very vague presence in my life, KotM’s is what had me diving headfirst into the fandom, all because of Ghidorah. Their design is amazing, sleek and intimidating! The detail that they whip up storms just by flying creates an awesome menacing atmosphere everytime they’re on screen!

The personalities between the heads is unique, providing all sorts of material for my writer side to explore! Their backstory is left open for me to explore as well, like where they came from and how their species functions! It’s been a lot of fun! I may be slightly burnt out from how much I’ve written and posted about them, but make no mistake, I still ADORE this Ghidorah and I have them to thank for starting this whole page in the first place! 

Shin Ghidorah

That’s right, Shin Ghidorah exists in official TOHO canon and he needs more love!!

Shin Ghidorah was one I was introduced to not long after I learned Kamata-kun (oh, and Shin Godzilla) was a thing. With my obsession with Ghidorah, I wanted to know if there was a Ghidorah in the Shin universe and after some digging, I found that there was! Featured in a ride in Universal Studios Japan! And better yet, videos of it exists on youtube! I loved it the second I saw it! 

The design is amazing and surprisingly unique! This is because Shin Ghidorah was originally a scrapped concept for the original Showa Ghidorah! Like, Shin Ghidorah is basically an oversized three-headed Skullcrawler with wings! Because you see those “legs” he has? Those are actually ARMS!! Ghidorah could’ve been a giant Skullcrawler all this time!!

I also love his movements, oddly enough. He doesn’t just fly, he SWIMS though the air, something I don’t recall seeing in any other Ghidorah!

The only thing I don’t like about him... is the fact that he wasn’t around longer! A shame the ride is so short, I would’ve LOVED to see more of him in a movie. Oh well...

Grand/Cretaceous Ghidorah

Both are the same individual, so they’re both in this entry! I remember learning about him through a video talking about Ghidorah’s most sadistic moment and this was it. Grand Ghidorah kidnaps children with the sole intent to devour them, but he doesnt eat them right away, no. He holds them hostage to stew in their terror, returning to them every so often just to listen to their screams and cries. You know he’s enjoying every minute, knowing he’s torn families apart. Without a doubt, all this is just a game before he destroys the world as Ghiddys do. The way he toyed with Mothra Leo, leaving him to suffer after beating him to near-death. Or the way he possessed one of the Mothra twins to try to kill her own sister! It was great! He has such a regal design too! I can see why the fanbase have come to call him Grand King Ghidorah, he’s absolutely majestic. Shame he’s overshadowed, likely due to not being in a Godzilla movie.

Cretaceous Ghidorah has a more Western-dragon look to him and it works. He is basically a baby Ghidorah and he is so cute! His big eyes and squeaky roars, I love it! He also SOMEHOW made me feel sorry for my least favorite dinosaur! That's some true power right there!

The regeneration ability too, is amazing! This is likely where Legendary got the idea, but Grand does it better by regenning from just a small piece of tail left behind. Just badass, all around!

Void Ghidorah

A controversial pick, I know. I made a whole post about my detailed thoughts on Void Ghidorah, see here. Long story short: I think he has great potential, just suffered from piss poor execution. I love the idea of turning this alien dragon into an interdimensional GOD, with followers and everything. His full-body model looks amazing! He’s the biggest and most powerful Ghidorah yet, the biggest kaiju in the entire franchise in fact, and I don’t see him ever being topped. Granted, I dun really judge how much I like a kaiju based on how strong they are, but it’s a bonus here. He needs all the help he can get!

Adding more, his roars are insane, not just a combination of Showa and Heisei Ghidorah! But sounds that are truly otherworldly.

Void Ghidorah deserves love, and a better movie. Guess I’ll just settle on Godzilla: Star-eating Wings as the go-to Void Ghidorah video!

I have no real opinion on the new ride Ghidorah, as I have yet to watch the full "movie” and thus, can’t judge how well I’ll like it compared to the others. So for now, tis neutral.

Now I’m totally going to get hate for this list of “least favorite Ghidorahs”, but this is my opinion. I don’t like any of them, and they’re all outshined by my favorite non-Ghidorah kaijus, and some even being beaten by my “meh” kaijus! Anyway, this is gonna go from “best” least favorite to my “worst” least favorite. Here goes:

Heisei/Mecha-Ghidorah

Tis no secret that I don’t particularly like Heisei’s version of the character. I’ve mentioned it more than enough. Oddly though, I liked the design when I first looked through Ghidorahs from past movies, and I DISLIKED Showa Ghidorah’s design. How things have changed when I learned more about both of them... 

Now I’ve grown to not like Heisei very much. They took Ghidorah as an alien dragon that destroys planets for fun, and turned him into pets that I’m sure are meant to be cute, but just remind me of Furby’s in how creepy they are (tis not the good kind of creepy either!). I like the scrapped idea of him being an attempt to clone Showa Ghidorah from DNA left behind when he destroyed Venus, so I keep that canon in my head just for some attempt to like him more. Tis why I call him “Kitty Ghiddy” whenever I write him, I legit cannot take him seriously. Such a shame that he’s basically replaced Showa Ghiddy on merchandise, so it’s harder for me to find said Showa Ghiddy because of this thing. Oh, well.

Oh, and he replaced the BIDIBIDI of Showa with generic Rodan calls. And he also turns into a good guy at the end of the movie with Mecha-Ghidorah, and.... well, go down to the next entry for my thoughts on stuff like that.

GMK Ghidorah

He’s a good guy here. They nerfed the fuck out of him by having him be a juvenile (not even done well like Cretaceous Ghidorah), and turned him into a good guy. Granted, he was never meant to be in this movie in the first place and it shows. I’m a villain kind of person, and Ghidorah’s evilness is one of the biggest draws to his character for me. So taking that away... It just doesn’t work for me. It says something when I like GODZILLA more than Ghidorah in a movie. His design is okay, so at least he has that going. But...

Desghidorah

I really don’t like the design of the character. That’s literally it. I think four-legged Ghidorahs are very awkward looking; Ghidorah has a lot going on as is, three heads, two wings, two legs, two tails. Adding more legs... it’s just too much going on that tips the scales from ‘awesome’ to ‘messy’ in my mind. I can’t explain too well why I really don’t like the four-legged look to Ghidorahs, I just really don’t. But credit, he does pull off the look slightly better than the last one on my list.

AND MY LEAST FAVORITE GHIDORAH AND LIKELY TO GET A MOB ON ME IS.....

Keizer Ghidorah/Monster X

“An awkward horse” is what someone described him to me as, and I can’t help but agree. Again, that four-legged look breaks it for me but somehow, he looks EVEN MORE awkward than Des. I just can’t look passed it. Maybe it’s the front legs, or the wings looking too small for his body. Des just LOOKS a bit more natural in his four-legged-ness. 

Making it worse for me, Keizer has a second form that I REALLY don’t like: Monster X. They don’t even resemble each other. I can’t help but feel MX was supposed to be his own Kaiju, but they felt pressured to make Ghidorah the final boss so they combined them. Dunno if that’s the case, but it feels like that to me. Not even getting into the “how the hell does a dragon come out of THAT, where does it all GO when he changes back?”. And the biggest thing: I don’t like human-looking characters. I don’t care for human characters at all in any sort of media, or anything that resembles humans too closely. I skip human scenes entirely just to get to the monsters. Tis why I don’t really care for gijinkas either. As far as I’m concerned, I like the kaiju for being kaiju, and making them human just takes away all things interesting.

If Ghidorah kept everything intact about his personality, but you made him human... I wouldn’t even give his character a second glance, much less devote my Tumblr page to him! But yeah, tangent over. Monster X just looks too human for my tastes. 

Plus, tis hard to compete for my attention when you’re in the same movie as FW Gigan! It says something when Showa Gigan and Showa Ghidorah can share the screen and I love them both, but FW Gigan completely outshines FW Ghidorah...

red dead redemption 2

a genuinely incredible game, and i think it takes the spot as my new favorite game ever. it helped me through a really tough time earlier this year, and even after finishing it i find myself back in the game time and time again just to explore the scenery and ride around the mountains :]

death stranding

ok so i never actually got very far through this, i just look back fondly remembering nights of playing this at 1am so my parents wouldnt know i didnt eat lunch for 2 weeks to afford this game. also shoutout to the guy who is now my coworker for selling this to a 17yo me without asking for id

uncharted: the nathan drake collection

all 3 of these games are just a good time. shooting army mfs while nate says funny one-liners. what more could you want. so glad my friend persuaded me into playing this series. started 4 too, which btw, absolutely fucks <3

gta 5 (fivem)

it’s ridiculous, but i actually became good friends with a couple of my coworkers through grinding for drugs and money when i first started at my job. we all made so many trips to pillbox together after wrecking cars or tackling each other to the ground and then we dragged more friends into it all and i made memories i think i’ll keep for a very long time :)

it’s so hard to put into words why i love this. joel and ellie, i would die for you. spoilers, but at the end i did not hesitate when i walked into that surgery room.

the last of us: part ii

this game is yet another reminder of why naughty dog is my favorite game studio. the gameplay and visuals make it feel like perfection and the combat makes me feel like a god damn maniac. i dont know any other aaa game that has prominent lgbt characters, and although it has flaws it really does mean a lot to me. i watched someone stream the entire game last year before i got a ps4 and even though i knew the ending i still cried so hard my nose bled for an hour lol

splatoon 2

this game is one of the best multiplayer shooters currently available and you cant tell me otherwise

forza horizon 5

this was my my most unexpected videogame love this year. i may not be a good racer like my friends, or be invested in much of the story, but i’ve enjoyed just spending my time speeding over hills in off road cars like a maniac while listening to the in game radio

kirby’s dream land 3

started playing this on my commute to work every day and it’s just delightful. i grew up with kirby’s dream land on gameboy so having this game to play in the mornings on switch has been lovely :]

animal crossing: new horizons

feels good to play this at last! i’m a long time fan of the animal crossing series so playing one on a current gen console instead of cracking out my 3ds feels great

metroid: dread

whaaat a fucking masterpiece of a game. this is my favorite thing on switch so far, the whole thing is delightful and very difficult, and as always samus feels so badass to play as. looks very visually impressive for the switch too. absolutely my favorite new release of 2021.

resident evil: village

i watched this game about 5 times over through streamers this year so i built up the balls to play it myself over christmas. maybe i overestimated myself because it’s still terrifying to me and im still stuck in the cellars of castle dimitrescu

pokemon: brilliant diamond

my first new pokemon game :) i think the most recent proper game i owned before this is for gba, so it’s been really interesting to play through. sure, it’s not known for being the most high-quality remaster ever, but i’ve been enjoying it.

there’s a bunch of stuff i didn’t add to this list, like super monkey ball bbhd and red dead 1 :] but i just added my favs that i discovered this year and the ones that hold the best memories!
