How I feel about this character: instant favorite from the moment she appeared in the first game. obviously could be handled LEAGUES better in consideration to her and toko being DID rep, but i'm not a system so i can't really weigh in on that beyond "even for 2010 the whole "serial killer alter" kinda thing is kinda oof". a fun character in spite of that, and she makes for some interesting interactions between the rest of the cast, both in her debut game and beyond. also crass funny girls are my weakness.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: komaru (of course), makoto, lowkey kyoko (and i fully blame you for this, it's an appealing duo), and. would it be self-wankery to say i do ship my own dangan chara with her. honestly i should draw that.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: non-romantic? okay as much as i don't want her to be in a relationship with byakuya at all (double for toko), i wanna see her bother the shit out of him. beyond that, i think syo and hifumi would make for an interesting duo! please, i wanna know if they'd either argue about yaoi opinions or if syo would absolutely hit him up for lewd commissions.

My unpopular opinion about this character: obviously repeating from the last ask i did about her but the yandere shit is overplayed. i'm not against it ofc, but i'd like more fanworks of syo as the hyperenergetic best friend who just so happens to kill guys sometimes and gets off on it.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: honestly i wish she got more story screentime in UDG, coz most of the time she's just used as an instant win button for combat encounters. is it just me or does she stop appearing in the story after chapter 4, i know you and i can't be the only people who noticed this.

also i think she should've smashed haiji's head in with a rock. as a treat.

•the two have a really deep talk about why they were doing this, with Makoto begging Izuru to remember him and calling him ‘Daddy’ but not in the sexual way but in the ‘I’m scared and I need comfort and I know you still love me somewhere in there dad’ way in complete pain and anguish and it’s fucking hurting me to write

•after he’s passed out Kamukura wipes his memories, and heals him so he can go into the killing game

•Makoto in the killing game talks incredibly fondly of his family, and it’s obvious that he cares for them a lot, to the point of even contemplating murder to keep them safe

•Makoto’s mood can switch at the drop of a literal hat, because while he may not be Hajime and Nagito’s birth son, he still takes after them a lot thanks to their influence

•so Makoto can go from caring angel, to pissed off grouchy ass, to fucking hoping psychopath, in the span of mere seconds, although he mostly goes into crazed compliment all ultimates mode to make people (cough Munakata, Juzo and Togami cough) leave him alone or when he wants to get out of situations

•he also has a switch in one of his pockets, and a game boy in the other, kudos of Chiaki

•the real reason he wears a hoodie is to hold all those games

•At random times he can just flash from normal guy trying to figure out class trials to a fucking psychopath that’s apparently so fucking scary and intimidating that the Genocider herself admits to being terrified of him when he gets like that, the rest of his classmates agreeing never to piss him off

•Byakuya excluded. He’s still terrified of Nagito mode Makoto but he still fucks him over multiple times

•After learning about the Tragedy, about how both of his parents played gigantic roles in it, how they put him into the killing game and wiped his memories, and how they ‘killed’ Komaru and almost killed him, he still forgives them without a second thought, both during the killing game, and after Hinata and Nagito wake up. He stated that he knows it wasn’t their faults, and that the person who really killed Komaru was her, Junko.

•When Makoto is executed, his luck manages to save him, managing to shock both Nagito and even Kamukura, who both initially thought that he had no luck whatsoever, and was simply immune to Nagito’s luck

•Kamukura cares about Makoto a lot, taking care of him in ways that only resemble fatherly urges. He’ll threaten and kill anyone who puts Makoto’s safety at risk, and is over protective and incredibly overbearing

Who’d win in a fight: Peko and Komaru or Gozu and Nekomaru

Team Peko and Komaru:

You even need to ask? Those two bozos can brute force their way all they want, but I've seen Peko in action more times than anyone else. That sword is more powerful than any fist.

It's one team that mainly fights unarmed and one that fights with weapons. Obviously the one with weapons have the advantage.

Pekoyama-san is a scary person, y'know. I wouldn't wanna go toe-to-toe with her. And I've heard that Naegi Komaru isn't exactly a pushover herself.

Team Nekomaru and Gozu:

Use your heads! No way Coach Nekomaru is losin' to anyone! Plus Gozu is 2nd in the physical exams in the whole base! They'd be totally unstoppable!

I've gotten roped into sparrin' with 'em both a few times. Those guys don't need weapons to win fights.

So I was bored and thought to myself “what if we took characters from all three games and made them friends. like, they’re all friends together, but little friend groups. what would they be?” and here I am

I know this is basically UTDP, but I’m just incredibly bored and wanted something to do. Feel free to ignore this.

Also when I’m talking about who’s friends with who, I’m mostly going to be focusing on characters from other games, since we already know the relationships between characters from the same games.

Makoto Naegi is friends with: Hajime, Komaru, Kaede, and Shuichi, obviously. Protag squad. Aside from them, though, I think he’d get along well with Kaito, since both of them are huge optimists. I do think he’d be fairly close with everyone, though.

Kyoko Kirigiri is friends with: Shuichi, of course. They’d be detective friends! I also feel like she’d get along well with Peko, Maki and Kirumi, since they’re all no-nonsense badasses who are determined to get what they want.

Byakuya Togami is friends with: I kinda feel like he’d be friends with Korekiyo. Don’t ask me why, I just get those vibes. I don’t really know, I feel like he’s someone who wouldn’t really be close with too many people.

Toko Fukawa is friends with: Dating Komaru, of course. She’d probably be friends with Mikan, since they’re both dating very loud, extroverted girls while they are very quiet, introverted girls (I ship Tokomaru and Tsumioda don’t @ me). Probably also Maki, since Komaru absolutely adopted the Warriors of Hope and while Toko helps out sometimes, she’s... not very good at it. I think that Maki, despite being an assassin, was fairly competent with children (hence why she chose Child Caregiver as her disguise), and would help Toko and Komaru out with the kids a lot. Sonia follows her around almost constantly after she finds out about Genocide Jill, too.

Yasuhiro Hagakure is friends with: I’m not sure who he’d be friends with, necessarily, but I do think he’d be fascinated by Nagito’s luck and how it relates to fortune telling.

Aoi Asahina is friends with: I kinda feel like she’d be friends with Angie (definitely not because they have the same VA aha what are you talking about). I’m pretty sure she’d also get along with Tenko because they like to gush about their girlfriends to each other.

Sayaka Maizono is friends with: Almost certainly Ibuki and Kaede, they’d get together and play music sometimes. I think she might also get along well with Akane because of how much she dances on stage and how dancing is kinda similar to gymnastics, and I also think Himiko helps her with special effects when she’s performing sometimes.

Leon Kuwata is friends with: He and Kazuichi are totally chaos friends. I’m not sure why, but they give me a very similar vibe. I also think that Nekomaru plans all his workouts, and they bond over sports-related things. Bonus: Ibuki gives him music lessons, and he plays tennis with Ryoma sometimes (Leon never wins, but it’s just for fun).

Chihiro Fujisaki is friends with: Chihiro, Mikan, and Gonta are the respective pures of each class, so they’d probably get along fairly well. I headcanon Chihiro and Chiaki as cousins, so they’d get along well and be friends too, probably. I feel like they would also get along well with Kiibo, since Chihiro is fascinated by Kiibo’s programming and Kiibo is just happy that someone thinks it’s cool that he’s a robot, thank you very much Kokichi!

Mondo Owada is friends with: I feel like when he arrived at Hope’s Peak, his gang had a big feud with the Kuzuryu clan, but after talking stuff out, they’d call off the feud and become great friends. I’m pretty sure he would also get along fairly well with Kaito (don’t ask me why, I’m not entirely sure).

Kiyotaka Ishimaru is friends with: I think he’d be friends with Shuichi and would admire his work in becoming a detective. He’d also originally be wary of Fuyuhiko (given his talent is pretty rebellious), but since Fuyuhiko is a stickler for following the rules and not breaking the law (...much), so they’d become fairly close eventually. 

Hifumi Yamada is friends with: Teruteru. You know why. (Also Tsumugi, since they’re both into anime and creating something based on fiction. Maybe Chiaki, since he writes fanfics based on games too).

Celestia Ludenberg is friends with: Celestia, Sonia, and Kirumi are goth friends, for sure. I also feel like she’d get along well with Gundham, since they both have “personas” that they very rarely deviate from. She gets together every week with Mahiru and Tenko to rant about how much they hate men, too. Also Kokichi is her annoying little cousin who she would never let anyone know she gets along with.

Sakura Ogami is friends with: She spars with Tenko every week, and Peko talks with her about devotion to those they care about sometimes. She also exercises with Akane and Nekomaru weekly.

Junko Enoshima is friends with: She’s part of the bitch squad with Hiyoko and Kokichi. Tsumugi really admires her, and while she acts like she doesn’t care, she’s incredibly flattered and hangs out with her sometimes. They’ve got matching Monokuma plushies. Finally, she and Nagito are best friends who would kill everyone in the room and then themselves if anyone found out.

Mukuro Ikusaba is friends with: Mukuro, Peko, and Maki get together and discuss murdering people sometimes (Kiyo joins occasionally, not that he’s actually killed anyone [or so he says... {jk he’s normal(?) here}]).

Hajime Hinata is friends with: Makoto, Komaru, Kaede, and Shuichi, as mentioned above. Also gets along well with Rantaro, mostly because he worries about Izuru like how Rantaro worries about his sisters (in this universe, Izuru is Hajime’s twin and constantly doing risky shit in the name of finding out whether it’s boring or not).

Sonia Nevermind is friends with: Goth friends with Celestia and Kirumi. Probably accidentally joined Angie’s cult worshipped Atua for a bit, but also likes to discuss morbid things with Korekiyo, and is DESPERATE to meet Genocide Jill, constantly begging Toko to switch for her.

Kazuichi Soda is friends with: Chaos friends with Leon, as stated above. Also close friends with Miu, which terrifies most of his class (for good reason). In awe of Kiibo and his features, and constantly asks to take him apart to see how he’s built. Kiibo refuses every time, but the two of them are still good friends.

Akane Owari is friends with: She helps create routines for Sayaka to perform, and exercises with Sakura (and Nekomaru) weekly. Spars with Tenko occasionally, too.

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu is friends with: Mondo and Taka, as stated above, but he’s also friends with Shuichi. I feel like Fuyuhiko would be kind of a mentor figure to Shuichi, though I’m not entirely sure why I get this vibe.

Ultimate Imposter is friends with: I’m sorry Imposter, but you don’t really have any traits that would make your friends with anyone outside of your class. The only person you’d interact with at all is Byakuya, and he’d probably hate your guts for impersonating him. (TLDR; I’ve got nothing)

Teruteru Hanamura is friends with: Hifumi, because of course, though also might get along with Miu. They’re horny disaster friends. Everyone should run for their lives.

Mahiru Koizumi is friends with: Rants about how much she hates men every week with Celestia and Tenko, as mentioned above. I feel like she’d also be friends with Himiko and Tsumugi, and she’d take pictures of their performances and cosplays respectively.

Peko Pekoyama is friends with: Kyoko, Maki, Kirumi, Peko, and occasionally Mukuro are the badass no-nonsense squad. She also discusses killing people with Maki, Mukuro, and Korekiyo occasionally (as stated above). Kokichi also is constantly trying to get her to express emotions (mostly by getting on her nerves), but she doesn’t mind... that much, anyways. She also talks to Sakura about devotion to others sometimes.

Ibuki Mioda is friends with: Occasionally plays music with Sayaka and Kaede. She also gives Leon music lessons, and she and Komaru gush about their girlfriends to each other (again, I ship Tokomaru and Tsumioda).

Hiyoko Saionji is friends with: Part of the bully squad with Junko and Kokichi, but is closer with the latter. They prank people together a lot, and the aftermath is always devastating. 

Mikan Tsumiki is friends with: One of the Class Pures, as they’re called, with Chihiro and Gonta. Also Toko, as stated above. Kirumi too, since they’re both all about serving people. Maybe also Himiko, though I can’t really articulate why I think they’d be friends.

Nekomaru Nidai is friends with: He plans out Leon’s workouts and exercises with Sakura (and Akane), as stated previously, but he’s close with Kaito, both due to their similar circumstances and their desire to help others reach their full potential.

Gundham Tanaka is friends with: He and Gonta are animal buds! Also gets along well with Celeste, since they’re both goths with flamboyant personas. Fairly close with Korekiyo too, since they’re both into more morbid things.

Nagito Komaeda is friends with: Yasuhiro follows him around whenever he thinks his luck is going to do something ridiculous, which is... a lot. Leads the “bastard orphan squad” with Kokichi, though they’re actually the only members. He’s also the Warriors of Hope’s babysitter, so he interacts with Komaru (and by extension Toko) a lot. Lastly, he and Junko are best frenemies, though if anyone asked, they’d claim that they’re just enemies.

Chiaki Nanami is friends with: Like I said earlier, I headcanon her and Chihiro as cousins, so they get along pretty well. Something I haven’t said yet, is that she’d probably be friends with Komaru! Don’t ask me why, I just get that vibe a lot. Totally also sleepy friends with Himiko, and enjoys helping Tsumugi cosplay video game characters. Maybe Hifumi, at a huge stretch, since she could offer insight into game characters for his fanfics.

Komaru Naegi is friends with: Part of the protagonist squad, and Toko’s girlfriend. Also Ibuki (as mentioned above), and probably gets together with Tsumugi to read manga sometimes. Nagito is also the her kids’ (Warriors of Hope, don’t @ me) babysitter, so they get along well, though they don’t spend a lot of time together. Also gets Maki’s help with the kids sometimes (see my reasoning in Toko’s segment), and they get along well! At least, well by Maki’s standards.

Shuichi Saihara is friends with: Protag squad, baybee! Also close with Kyoko (detective friends!), Taka (hard workers), and Fuyuhiko (...don’t ask, I’m not sure why).

Maki Harukawa is friends with: Part of both the badass squad (Kyoko, Kirumi, Peko, Maki) and the murder club (Mukuro, Peko, Maki, Kiyo)! Also helps Toko and Komaru with their kids occasionally.

Himiko Yumeno is friends with: Himiko helps Sayaka with special effects for her performances sometimes, so they hang out a fair bit, though Sayaka usually does most of the talking. Mahiru takes pictures of her magic shows a lot, and Mikan is also friends with her (I’m not sure why I think they’re friends, but they’re friends). Chiaki is also sleepy friends with her, and the two of them can be seen napping together fairly often.

Rantaro Amami is friends with: Honestly, I feel like Rantaro is closer with the people in his class than the people in other classes. He’s kinda just popular and well-liked by everyone, but only close with a few people. Hajime is his best friend who isn’t in his class, since they have a tendency to worry about their siblings.

Kaede Akamatsu is friends with: She’s part of both the protag squad (Makoto, Hajime, Komaru, Shuichi) and the music squad (Sayaka and Ibuki), but not much else. Like Rantaro, though, she’s well-liked by just about everyone, even if she’s not exactly friends with them.

Ryoma Hoshi is friends with: Ryoma is a loner, and doesn’t really spend a lot of time with anyone. His classmates do their best to help him socialize, but they can only do so much. That being said, though, he does like to play tennis with Leon sometimes.

Kirumi Tojo is friends with: Certified member of the badass squad (Kyoko, Peko, Maki, and Kirumi) and one of the goth queens (Celestia, Sonia, and Kirumi). Also gets along well with Mikan, since she originally asked Mikan for help learning how to treat wounds (should the need ever arise for her to carry out her duties), but they quickly bonded over how they want to help people.

Angie Yonaga is friends with: She’s friends with Aoi, since because Angie lives on an island, swimming is important, and with Aoi being the Ultimate Swimming Pro... yeah. She also probably converted Sonia for a little while, though while Sonia eventually left Atua, they remained close.

Tenko Chabashira is friends with: Likes to gush about her girlfriend to Aoi, who, in return, gushes about her girlfriend. Gets together weekly with Celestia and Mahiru about how much they hate men, as previously stated, and spars with both Sakura and Akane every so often.

Korekiyo Shinguji is friends with: Gets along fairly well with Byakuya (don’t ask). He also likes to discuss morbid things with Sonia and Gundham, and is an honorary member of the murder club (Mukuro, Peko, and Maki). Only honorary, though, since he doesn’t always show up to meetings and hasn’t actually killed anyone, he just finds murder methods interesting.

Miu Iruma is friends with: Horny friends with Teruteru, and engineering friends with Kazuichi. She’s slowly turning Kazuichi to the dark side, aka nonstop dirty jokes, and his class is terrified of her.

Gonta Gokuhara is friends with: Class 79′s representative pure, so he hangs out with Chihiro and Mikan a lot, just being innocent and adorable with them. Animal friends with Gundham, too! They like to discuss nature and how animals/insects are good for the world.

Kokichi Ouma is friends with: Kokichi is Celestia’s annoying little cousin, but they do get along... just not in front of anyone else. Him, Junko, and Hiyoko are the representative bullies/pranksters of their classes, so they hang out a lot. Kokichi also follows Peko around trying to get her to express emotions, though he secretly thinks she’s really cool and that she’s really similar to Maki. Leads the “bastard orphan squad” with Nagito, not that anyone else is part of it, but they have fun nonetheless!

Kaito Momota is friends with: Makoto is his sidekick now, which he doesn’t really mind, since they’re both pretty big optimists. He and Nekomaru like to get together and shout encouragement at people, too. Kaito’s also friends with Mondo, though I don’t know why.

K1-B0 is friends with: Kiibo is friends with Chihiro, who is fascinated with his programming; and Kazuichi, who constantly follows him around, asks about his functions, and requests to take him apart (not that he’s ever accepted that last one...)

Tsumugi Shirogane is friends with: She helps Hifumi with his fanfics very occasionally, since most of the time said fics are about manga and/or anime and she could offer insight into some of the characters. Really admires Junko, who publicly denounces her, but secretly is one of her best friends. Mahiru loves to take pictures of her cosplays, and Chiaki helps her get the details right on her video game cosplays. Komaru also likes to hang out with her so they can read manga together.

Female characters and sexist tropes in Danganronpa

Because why not, I’m bored. This is... some data ? Do of that what you will, haha. It’s another set of data I collected for a larger analysis, but since I will never publish it ( probably ), here we go.

List of tropes :

- Manipulate men with her womanly ways : pretty self-explainatory, some character will manipulate men’s emotions through seduction, or emotions at least. Honestly there are a lot of great characters out there that fall into this trope, but these characters are often seen as ireedemably evil, or - at best - femme fatale, with a cold, cold heart.

- Victim of sexual abuse/harassment : Whether it’s played for drama or for laugh. Can range from verbal abuse to straight-up rape. Of course there is nothing inherently bad about having female characters that are victims of sexual abuse in your story, but this topic needs to be treated with respect.

- Revolve Around Male Character(s) : Pretty self-explainatory, again. Can lead to fridging, especially in Danganronpa. Usually used to prop-up a male character’s developement.

- 'Waifu’ material :  I decided to use it for any female character that will fit these criteria : a) is of course incredibly attractive b) is completely unaware of that or of the way that her body is perceived by others c) is incredibly naive when it comes to dating/sex d) had actually very little contact with men through her life, because of specific circumstances e) will fall for a completely average guy, despite the fact that he is... well, completely average and does nothing specific on his end, just because he is the first guy that she spends time with.

- Sexist language or behaviour : Toward men, or women. Obviously we notice it toward men - some people on tumblr approve... to each their own, I guess - but it’s a lot less noticed toward women.

Danganronpa : Trigger Happy Havoc

Observations

- If you’re in Danganronpa and you’re manipulating men with your womanly ways, you are evil. Celes, Sayaka and Junko are probably the most hated female characters in the first game ( when, I remind you, a serial-murdered in included in the casting ).

- I absolutely despise the ‘pass’ given to women to be sexist in DR. I don’t mean just sexist toward men, but sexist toward women as well. The comments made by Toko toward Asahina are despicable, unfunny, and frankly uncomfortable as far as I’m concerned. Way more than, let’s say, Hifumi’s. You could justify Kyoko’s comments by her daddy issues, and Junko/Monokuma’s comments by... well, being herself.

- Asahina is the only one I qualified for the Waifu trope. I don’t know if I’m being unfair, but her ‘sudden’ crush on Makoto, her gratuitious fanservice scenes and her childish behaviour made me think that it made sense to put her here.

- Toko was such headscratcher, because while, yes, her entire goal is to please her ‘Master’, Byakuya, I’m re-reading the definition of this trope that I just wrote and... she doesn’t qualify. She isn’t fridged, she doesn’t prop up Byakuya’s developement, and she, de facto, does have her own shit to deal with beside her obsession with Byakuya. So just... take it as it is.

Danganronpa 2 : Goodbye Despair !

Observations :

- A lot less of evil manipulative women in this game. Mikan only qualify when hit by the Despair Discease, as for Hiyoko, it’s a complicated grey zone. She doesn’t exactly manipulate the others with her womanly ways but more her very-young looking girl ways which is... better or worse, you decide.

- Half of the female cast was sexually harassed/abused. Sonia is sexually harassed during the first scene we see her. That seems a lot. Sure, this game relies on the characters having heavy backstory, but I wish they were a bit more creative with theit backstory. Also, this is really played for laugh multiple times which, I don’t know about, but create a cognitive dissonance.

( I didn’t include Mahiru in the list, even if technically, we can watch her naked without her giving her consent because a) I didn’t drink that much bleach back so that I still remembered this scene, thank you very much b) this is a ‘bonus’ scene that I don’t consider as canon, fight me )

- On my first draft, the ‘Waifu’ trope was the ‘Born Sexy Yesterday’ trope, but it could only be really applicable to Chiaki, as she is literally created as a naive child that doesn’t know what holidays are in the body of a over-sexualized teenager. As it is, though, for the Waifu trope, Sonia qualifies big time. Akane and Mikan barely don’t.

- Also Chiaki is lucky I’m not taking into account Dr3.

- Ibuki was almost the unproblematic fav of the list, and then I remembered her behaviour whenever Mikan was humiliating herself, and so she will never be at Sakura’s level, sorry Ibuki.

Danganronpa : Another Episode and Danganronpa 3 : The anime

Observations :

- The difference of treatment between Kotoko’s sexual abuse and Komaru’s sexual abuse is baffling. I don’t know how this happened.

- Ruruka, being, you know a woman with womanly ways, is evil, and I love her.

- Chisa’s character is a trainwreck, but I genuinely have no idea if his character revolve around Munakata. It has to, right ? What would it revolve around, if not ? She does prop up his development, so I was like ‘good enough’.

- I will not subject myself to the anime once again, so it’s totally possible that one of these character had sexist language and behaviour. If it’s Chisa, tell me, because she would almost hit a bingo with that.

Danganronpa V3 : Killing Harmony

Observations :

- Are all the FTEs in NDRV3 really, really stupid ? Yes. But at least, that means no sexual abuse in half of the female cast’s past, and I will say it’s a win.

- That said, I’m not taking in account the Love Hotel’s events. Once again a) bleach ain’t cheap, you guys b) it would create such ridiculous bias when compared to other games... like, arguably the entire cast would have been sexually assaulted by Shuichi, and the ‘Waifu’ trope would also rack up a lot of points. That doesn’t make a lot of sense. These events are still... a thing. Unfortunately.

- Angie is perfect, and blessed by Atua. Obviously.

- While Tenko’s behaviour is making Himiko’s uncomfortable and could be considered sexual harrassment, I still didn’t put Himiko in the ‘victim’ category, though I suppose I could have. Double standards also get me, sometimes.

- Do Maki and Kaede revolve around a guy ? I personally would say no for Maki. Kaito is the one that props up her character development. Hell, he is the one getting fridged. I knew I had to mention it anyway, but to me she doesn’t qualify. Kaede is a bit more difficult. No, until her death, would be the most correct answer. Then it’s damn Shuichi, we get it, you have a dead girlfriend, shut the heck up about it, thanks. Same thing for the Waifu trope for Kaede. She is fine when we are playing her, but during her FTE... damn.

- If you were wondering, Kaede threatens - and actually start - to rise Tsumugi’s skirt until Shuichi can see her panties. Tsumugi might be an evil mastermind, it’s still sexual harrasment in my book, though obviously not at the level of what we have in earlier games.

Ok hello! Here we are, first post on my little blog about danganronpa and I hope you enjoy. Warning! This is NOT spoiler free. Expect to have spoilers for everything except for v3, nagito Komaeda and the destroyer of the world, and any of the manga. Thank you!

Ok so, today we’re going to be talking about dr3 and the first two games + udg’s overarching hmm. Chronological order? Yeah, that. That’s definitely what was confusing me most when watching the anime. (By danganronpa 3 I mean future and despair arc)

So at first, I was under the impression that the order things went in was frost, dr1 (the first killing game, despair arc, sdr2 (the second killing game), and then udg + future arc. What I’m thinking for udg and future arc is that drae happens either slightly befor or slightly after future arc events. I’ll explain more on that later. REMEMBER THAT V3 IS ENTIRELY IRRELEVANT. At this point, I’ve come to the conclusion for several reasons that that was completely WRONG.

The new timeline that I’ve come up with is: first are the events of despair arc, the first killing game , the second killing game, and then future arc/udg. Let me explain to you what led me to believe this.

Let’s start off with despair arc and why that comes before trigger happy havoc. There are three reasons why I think that. What happened first was some guy was talking to the principal and mentioned a girl who had been winning undefeated in the casino lounge. First things that came to mind was Celeste, but then I realized she’s dead. I wondered if the creators just threw it in there to be funny or something and this being a different ultimate gambler. This next event is what really drew me to my conclusion. While the principal and other guy were talking, the camera panned to his desk where you can see three student profiles. You wonder who these students may be? Kiyotaka Ishimaru, Celestia Ludenberg, and Kyoko Kirigiri. What I REALLY should’ve noticed first was about the principal. Jin Kirigiri. If you don’t know, he was executed in the beginning of thh. Also just the fact that the school was running should have made it obvious.

We can skip over dr1 because we all know it comes before goodbye despair. Now we can talk about dr2, future arc, and drae. This part it’s a little more complicated so bear with me.

For a second let’s ignore future arc and talk about sdr2 and ultra despair girls. Originally I thought udg came before sdr2 because Nagito Komarda was in despair. Now I’m thinking otherwise because of two events that happened in future arc.

First we have when Kyoko and asahina were talking about miya gekkogahara. She was supposedly one of the main developers for the New World program. Hold on I wonder if it says is or was lemme check. K I spent like three hours checking and I can’t find it but everything I did find suggests it says was so. Now, why would they say this unless the New World program had already been made. I understand it could’ve been in the process of being made but what Makoto says says otherwise.

While he’s addressing the building during the final killing game to prove he skit the traitor, he talks about how he isn’t assisting the remnants of despair but rather sees their past selves, hopes, and dreams and their potential they lost due to Enoshima. He also says something about “the new world program that did not go as intended” this is obviously referring to the sdr2 killing game on jaberwoxk island.

That’s basically all the basis I have for that one, so let’s move on to the udg situation.

The key thing that makes me think that drae happens slightly before future arc is this. BYAKUYA. andtokotooig. The reason I know it’s not during this because Makoto is suspected as a traitor. I don’t think that they would send Makoto’s allies on a major mission like this who could potentially be a traitor. especially when they’re also suspecting Kyoko and Hina. This means that they would’ve been sent after his name was clear. In episode six when we FaceTime byakuya, he is not in towa city. Toko, on the other hand is with komaru in towa city. It’s pretty clear that they are already friends, so it must be after their journey. At least that’s my assumption. There are still a few holes here that make me wonder, but I’ll figure it out eventually.

*Mikan leaves for the waiting room.

*In the time that she’s gone, Komaru lifts up the covers of her bed and stares down. She sees an empty space blocked off by bandages where her leg used to be.

*Makoto rushes up to Komaru in her bed. He stands there, waving his hands around, unsure of what to do. Eventually, he pulls his sister into a tight hug!

I-I’m so sorry Komaru! I’m sorry...! I...

*He breaks down into tears.

*Makoto pulls away from Komaru. The other people in the room with him are Kyoko, Toko and Mukuro.

*Komaru’s voice is raspy and quiet. She basically lost it after screaming the previous night.

Komaru was able to tell Toko in the time it took to get here about Haiji Towa’s plans to blow up the hospital. You probably don’t know this, but we’ve finally found a way to remove your dumb helmets, and now he’s choosing to strike.

Why now? Of all times?

I can think of two reasons.

One: Before, Haiji didn’t have Organization Zetsubou. Meaning he couldn’t have easily gotten the resources.

and Two: I think he wants to crush our hope. All those years ago, when Komaru and Toko beat Big Bang Monokuma, finally, when the adults had hope, it all came crashing down on them...Literally...

He’s doing the same to us. You guys have hope for your friends in the hospital, and just when you get hold of that hope, he’s going to consume you with despair.

...Then we need to stop him.

Makoto Naegi: 

To your suprise, Makoto says he never really celebrates Halloween that much, but since you seen excited about it, of course he’ll do something fun with you!

You guys decide to stay inside and watch Halloween movies all night and occasionally open the door for the trick-or-treaters 

He loves seeing everyone’s costumes and since he’s kind of a scaredy cat when it comes to movies, he gets kinda jumpy when he hears a doorbell or knock

He’ll try to act tough when you’re watching the scary movies like Halloween or IT, but in reality, he’s clenching his fists and waiting for you to hug him. HE FALLS FOR ALL THE JUMP SCARES. But he plays it off and just says he’s cold and felt a shiver.

Makoto didn’t want to dress up for Halloween, but you forced him to. You guys got matching animal ears! You got black bunny ears and he got wearwolf ones! 

He tries to take the ears off when you open the door for the kids because he got made fun of sometimes, but you reassure him that they’re adorable and that he looks cute in them. 

Please give him lots of hugs and kisses and hold him tight because even though he won’t admit it, he’s going to be terrified at night after seeing those scary movies. >_<

Hajime Hinata: 

Hajime doesn’t really care about Halloween, but he doesn’t hate it! And if you wanna do something that night he’s all for it!

At least he was, until you tell him your idea of a fun Halloween was to go to a fall festival.

Hajime isn’t really a festival guy, because he really doesn’t want to get out of the house most of the times. He was hoping you would want to stay home and watch scary movies.

Still, because he loves you he says yes and gets ready. Don’t even try to make him get into a Halloween costume or else he’ll change his mind.

He surprisingly has a lot of fun. He especially loves decorating the sugar skulls and watching the live performances.

There was one booth where you spin a wheel and try to earn prizes, and he stayed there for half an hour trying to win you a huge bat stuffed animal. 

You guys spend the whole night eating festival food, visiting all the booths, and even participating in the karaoke stand. At first he doesn’t want to because he thinks it’ll be embarrassing, but after seeing your puppy dog eyes, he gives in.

He sings good, and you guys won a gift card for your performance! 

Komaru Naegi:

She’s a big fan of Halloween, and doesn’t try hiding it. She decorates a bit here and there, but nothing too big. 

She already has the night planned before you even have a chance to say anything. Komaru tells you she wants to visit a haunted house with the biggest smile on her face, so even if you were to scared to go, you said yes.

She loves scary things, and even says that she’ll protect you the whole night in case you get scared.

That wasn’t the case though, because the first second you stepped into the haunted house and a clown popped up that was obviously fake, she was screaming at the top of her lungs and holding onto you tight.

You ended up having to take care of her that night, because she was constantly screaming and having the most over the top reactions to the attraction.

Since she was acting so scared, the actors targeted her even more, which led her to run off without you.

You sped through the rest of the attraction and found her outside of the house sitting down with her face on her knees.

Please comfort her, and make her some hot cocoa when you get home, because she’ll really appreciate it. 

Kaede Akamatsu: 

This girl LOVES Halloween, and everybody around her knows it. She;s one of those over the top Halloween fanatics. 

Her house is decorated head to toe in crazy decorations, enough to make anybody roll their eyes.

She’s also had her Halloween party planned for MONTHS, and she spends all morning and afternoon getting her house ready for the huge party. 

She invites all her friends, and of course you, and even has a costume contest. The winner gets a trip to DisneyLand, so everyone’s serious about the contest.

Obviously not as serious as her of course, since she prepared hand made matching Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy costumes for you both, which she had prepared for a long time.

You guys spend all night drinking, eating, playing party games, and watching scary movies. Everyone had a blast.

And when it came to choosing the winner for the costume contest, everyone votes for you both, which leaves her smiling brighter than she had all night.

She hugs you tightly and pulls you into a big kiss.

“Baby, we’re going to DisneyLand!”

Shuichi Saihara: 

This boy LOVES you so much, and he would do anything for you. That’s why he said yes to wearing matching vampire costumes for Halloween. 

Trust me he looks super cute in fangs ;)

Unfortunately, he had to decline when you asked him if he wanted to go to Kaede’s Halloween party, only because he got stuck taking his neighbor trick-or-treating.

Since you wanna spend the night with him, you decide to tag along.

He looks so cute in his fangs and cape, so it’s nice to show your adorable boyfriend off too. 

Shuichi is pretty shy, so he won’t go up to people’s doors, so you have to drag him along with you so he can get candy too!

Everyone seems pretty suprised that you two are trick or treating, but they still give you candy .

Oh, you wanted to kiss him all night, but since you were stuck with a kid, you decided to contain yourself. He promised that he would hug you all night to make up for it though. 

At the end of the night, you both went home and looked at all of your candy. There was lots of trading, and then you both spent all the rest of the night watching movies like Coraline, Corpse Bride, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Flufftober Day Four - Soulmates (requested)

“Not What I Expected” - Makoto x Byakuya 

In a world full of soulmates, it was rare for someone to not want to meet the one for them. However, most people had nice or generally kind things written on their wrists, waiting for those words to be uttered and for that person to be theirs forever. Makoto Naegi, however, was absolutely dreading his first encounter. ‘Can’t you watch where you’re going, idiot?’ was permanently adored onto his wrist, until someone came along and said it. With the rude phrase, he had honestly forgotten all about his soulmate, and wasn’t too upset about it.

The winter before Makoto entered high school, talk of soulmates surrounded him from all angles, and he began to fear the fateful meeting. ‘It has to happen soon, right?’ he reasoned, since so many of his classmates had begun to meet their soulmates. He knew there was a chance his soulmate would be in high school with him, since he didn’t know any of the other students scouted for Hope’s peak. Maybe his soulmate would turn out to be nice, just having a bad day or something. That was all he could hope for. 

Once he began his studies at Hope’s Peak, he became wary of his peers, as several of them could be the one to say the harsh words on his wrist. Fortunately, none of the contenders were interested in talking to him, let alone calling him a shrimp. Again he tried to ignore the possibility of meeting his soulmate, focusing on his studies. 

As the year went on, Makoto began to wonder if his soulmate would just end up being some stranger. No one stood out to him at school, and his sister had to inspire hope in him. 

“Maybe they’ll be a bully or something; someone you wouldn’t expect.” Komaru theorized. Her and Makoto were at home after school, chatting casually. 

“I hope not, that wouldn’t be very romantic.” Makoto said in response.

Komaru gently slapped him. “Since when were you so obsessed with romance?”

“I’m not! But do you think I won’t like them? It seems like they don’t like me from what the first words are.. What if they hate me once we meet?” He thought of all the worst-case scenarios. Normally he didn’t even care that much, but with even more of his friends finding their destined partner, he thought of the impossible scenarios.

“What’s not to like? Yeah, maybe you’re a little on the small side, but sometimes people say mean things to hide their insecurities! You’ll probably end up just like me. Maybe your soulmate is at Hope’s Peak too!” Her excitement shined through the cloud of Makoto’s worry. Komaru always was so good at cheering him up. 

“I dunno.. None of my classmates seem interested in me.” 

“Well, describe some of them then. Give me the juicy details, and I’ll let ya know who I think could be, y’know, It.” 

Makoto had to think really hard. Which of his classmates could even be perfect for him? “I guess there’s Sayaka, she’s an idol who-” He didn’t get to finish explaining. 

“Not Sayaka again!” Komaru groaned. “Skip her. We know she’ll never notice you.” 

“That’s not true. Fine though, I’ll move on. There’s Celeste. She’s this gothic lolita girl who’s super condescending, and likes to win against everyone at games and stuff.” 

“Okay, so she might be the one. Any others?” 

“Maybe Junko? She’s the big fashion icon right now so you probably already know her, but she’s nothing like the magazines. In reality she’s super aggravated and mean-hearted.” As he described the pink-haired girl, he made a decision. “I really don’t want her to be my soulmate.”

“Hey, what about that Byakuya guy? You said he was giving you weird looks, right? What if it’s him?” Komaru suggested, ignoring her brothers’ previous possibility. 

Makoto was surprised by her addition. Sure, he knew about the blond guy and his snarkiness, but he had made it clear from the first day that he wanted nothing to do with any of the students. “Togami? There’s no way he’s my soulmate. He’s probably the most hateful guy I’ve ever seen. And those ‘weird looks’ were just from him trying to see what was written on the board.” Even if the words on his wrist perfect matched the nature of Byakuya, he wasn’t sure if that was who he wanted to spend his life with. 

“Aww, really? I was hoping you’d marry into his family and give me some of his money..” Komaru pouted, still determined to uncover who his soulmate was. 

“Even if I did, I wouldn’t give you any of his money- why are we sure I’m marrying him anyways? What if my soulmate just doesn’t talk to anyone?” 

“Well they’ve gotta talk to you at some point. Welp, I’ve gotta go do some homework. See ya tomorrow!” With that, Komaru disappeared into her room. 

The brunette cursed at his sister for leaving him alone with his thoughts on such a topic. What if his soulmate really was Byakuya? Now he was thinking of the possibility of all his classmates again. It would be a sleepless night for sure.

Makoto’s morning was off to a rocky start when he woke up to the bright beam of light hitting his eyes. It was late, said the alarm clock that let him know that he should’ve been awake for school over an hour ago. The alarm must’ve not gone off, he thought, or maybe I just slept through it. Groaning at his ignorance, he hurried to prepare himself for school. Luckily there was just enough time so he would arrive before first class if he hurried, but he had to skip breakfast in order to beat the morning traffic. 

As he rushed out the door and down the street, his mind felt eerily clear,  as if the sleep he had managed to get had rid him of thoughts entirely. It was a peaceful run, at the very least. No worrying thoughts of soulmates or anything that Komaru said the night before. 

He reached the school, checking his watch to make sure he was still on time. There were still a few minutes before class would start, which gave him a little while to get something to eat. He had some spare change in his pocket, so he went in the direction of the vending machine. Just when he was about to turn a corner, he bumped into none other than the richest man in the school, Byakuya Togami. 

The instant they collided, Makoto backed off to apologize. “I’m sorry sir!” He exclaimed.

“Can’t you watch where you’re going, idiot? You could’ve damaged my pristine uniform.” Byakuya remarked. They both realised what had happened as the tingling sensation erupted on their arms let them know that they had found each other. 

“So what, it was you all along?” Byakuya said, breaking the silence. “I must say, I’m a bit disappointed.”

Byakuya’s statement was a complete lie. Ever since he stepped foot in Hope’s Peak, he knew who his soulmate was, and had started to anticipate the first encounter. Figuring out who it was was just a matter of elimination. From just the three words on his wrist, he knew his fateful partner would be anxious and apologetic. Within his classmates, only a few exhibited such behavior. From there, he conversed with his potential partners to see if any of them would be the one. Eventually, all that was left was Makoto. It just so happened that they would meet before he had the chance to confirm his prediction. 

“I’m sorry I’m not what you wanted. Can I buy you something as an apology?” Makoto asked. He was obviously ridden with anxiety. It was an interesting feeling for him, knowing that the person in front of him was destined for him even though they were so drastically different. 

“Let’s see how this plays out.”

Makoto was confused at what Byakuya mumbled. He must’ve seen the confusion on his face though, as he rephrased his sentence. “I meant; sure, you can offer an apology. You are stuck with me now.” It finally resonated with the brunette boy that his soulmate was finally in front of him. 

“Right, I guess so.” 

Maybe having Byakuya as a soulmate wouldn’t be so bad.

Radical Opinion: I suspect Kodaka isn't smart enough to write a Big Bad who isn't trying to lose. While I love Junko and V3 首謀者, the gaps in the armor have become much clearer after 4 iterations of the same killing game with the gift-wrapped clues and sloppiness on the Big Bad's part. Thoughts?

I actually answered an ask within a day or two of receiving it, this is like a new record for me, haha. Going under a read more mostly for sheer length of response, nothing new to see on this blog. I think I also need to hire a script editor like Kodaka desperately needs to do... There are V3 spoilers here as well, be warned.

It’s an intriguing question, though! I would probably wager as well that the reason we’re sticking to the formula for self-defeating masterminds is because it’d be incredibly difficult to write a scenario where the mastermind is actually trying to genuinely win whilst having the survivors eventually out-gambit them in order to forcefully end the game before the mastermind achieves their goals, in a way that doesn’t come across as either: Mastermind is a complete moron who overlooks obvious evidence that chain-starts their downfall, or the survivors get handed Deus Ex Machinas in order to win. I kinda don’t blame Kodaka on this one if I’m honest, haha. I feel dirty saying that...

But yeah, I’d also want to see this changed up in an (inevitable) future DR game. I definitely want less lucky coincidences for evidence reveals for a start. Actually have the survivors work towards finding their evidence and analysing it to find out the mastermind’s identity/goals. You’ve discussed this a lot on your own blog but I gotta agree that the Mother Monokuma thing in V3 is SUPER contrived, haha. Even if the intention was that V3 首謀者 deliberately is leaving evidence around, that was still a stretch. There are like so many ways you could improve that whole thing god. Junko was never bad at deliberately losing, jeez! 

Junko and V3 首謀者 are my favourite characters in the whole series regardless though, I think the fact they both try to lose makes them pretty great multi-faceted characters, and I ain’t denying the fact that they’re both EVIL as shit, but I’d actually really be interested in a villain character who is actually just flat-out... monstrous and running killing games purely because they enjoy the spectacle of betrayal/bloodshed, with no deeper philosophy/audience behind it that has them basically allowing themselves to lose. I want a mastermind who is actually out for blood and wants to ensure their game only ends with either one person standing or everyone dead.

This sounds like it’d be a very two-dimensional mastermind but I think there are ways you could make them an interesting character in their own right. For example, you could have them conduct a killing game with a group of people that all knew each other (including the MM) beforehand, with no memory tampering. All of them were extremely close in the past but have grown apart over the years due to a variety of factors (distance, beliefs, increasing dislike of certain people, etc) so most people hadn’t spoken for YEARS before killing game. So then you’d have a lot more relationship dynamics that you don’t really get with the current DR formula. And then you’d actually get a mastermind who actually had a personal bond with the cast, rather than basically being a stranger. And therefore makes the Reveal more shocking and horrific. 

I know Junko was a fellow classmate of the DR1s, but memory tampering yo. She was basically a stranger to the survivors during the game itself. She’s absolutely a stranger to the DR2 cast (no thanks to DR3 blowing up the idea she was supposed to have courted every character into her cult...) as well. Monaca interacts with Komaru once before the endgame, Tengan... hates his coworkers and has no close relationship with them obviously. V3 DOES attempt to have the 首謀者 be someone who forms a personal bond with the other survivors the entire game... but I think we both agree that game does a shitty job portraying that aspect, since they’re basically a non-entity until the end, haha. Okay I think what I mostly want is a mastermind who is actually a close friend to the other characters the whole game, to be on a completely different tangent as usual... :B

Back to the actual topic, I really do want to see a DR scenario where the survivors actually have to work together to genuinely out-smart the mastermind at their own game, rather than just stumbling into the final trial forcefed answers as well yeah. Mostly, I want a break from the now standard “rival character concocts a crazy scheme on their lonesome nobody could have predicted designed to end the killing game, but it actually amounts to jack shit and does nothing in the grand scheme of things” formula we get in Chapter 5. Because ironically that shit is now HELLA predictable. This probably ties back into actually wanting this series to be the ensemble story it advertises itself as. Give me the MC and rival, or w/e combo, working together in secret after getting over their differences to fuck shit up for the MM, and have the others gradually get clued into the plan as the trial/chapter goes along. Maybe with some POV switching while we’re at it as they make their realizations? But for longer than 2 minutes, pls.

TL;DR - Basically like we always say/agree about, this series needs to actually start twisting its formula for real, and having a mastermind actually gunning for the win, and survivors actually having to work together and figure out their situation without spoonfeeding would be an excellent change along those lines. I’d absolutely be interested in a more ruthless mastermind who absolutely wants to win their game at all costs. But LMAO it’s Kodaka who I now don’t expect anything new from anymore. New writer for the series whilst he’s on break, pls??

headcanons for fukawa/syo who was in a relationship with mastermind komaru, who she was protective and possessive over, and managed to get rid of hope

heres ur headcanons fukawa! i hope u like them, and maybe theyll help u jog a few memories! if u want any changes, though, let me know and ill work on fixing them! - mod kiibo - even though fukawa ended up joining komaru later on, in the beginning she was actually on the side of hope. she didnt want to see the people she cared about die due to some despair incident, so the best option would obviously be to get rid of it! that was her way of thinking until it was revealed that komaru, of all people, was the mastermind - when komaru made her mastermind reveal, fukawa knew that her best course of action would be to join her side and keep her safe. this is when she broke away from what her friends believed and join the despair forces. knowing that syo could come to her aid if need be, fukawa was just sure that despair would win out in the end - because of the fact that she was the mastermind, numerous people tried to come after komarus life. whenever fukawa realized what was happening, she would force syo to come out by forcing herself to sneeze. once syo was around, there was no longer any need to worry about anyone trying to hurt or kill komaru - with that being said, many people who fell into despair also worshipped komaru and wanted to be in a somewhat romantic relationship with her. fukawa was usually the one to take care of these people, since killing them off with syo would just be getting rid of people who were helping to spread the despair. fukawa just punished them in non lethal ways - in order to help komaru, fukawa pretended to be on the side of hope and join the future foundation, so that she could work to betray them from inside their own ranks. while there, if anyone talked about getting rid of komaru, syo would generally pay them a visit while nobody else was around. too bad she had to change her normal murder patterns, though - while komaru and fukawa were waiting for the future foundation to eventually topple and for despair to rule the world, they would occasionally share romantic moments, such as strolling along the sidewalks while holding hands. they would usually have to stay disguised, but that was fine as long as the two of them could stay together - once the future foundation did topple, though, and hope was starting to disappear completely, fukawa and komaru would often sit together and enjoy just how chaotic the world was becoming. people were dropping like flies, left and right, and fukawa was so glad that komaru could be around to see the world of despair that she craved - once despair was gone from the world, though, fukawa was still protective of komaru. even though syo was the more protective one, fukawa was still pretty protective. syo was the one that constantly wanted komaru to be by her side and never be alone, while fukawa mostly wanted to make sure komaru was safe and protected - syo also worked as a sort of hitman for komaru, although this was willingly and without pay. if there was ever someone that komaru just wanted gone, syo would make sure they were gone, no questions asked. with everything lost to corruption and despair, it wasnt as if syo ever expected to get caught in her crimes, anyway - there might not have been any hope in the world, but fukawa knew that there was definitely still happiness. once u accepted despair as the ultimate form of excitement and happiness, fukawa was sure that anyone could enjoy living in this madness. despair and love had become the two driving forces in fukawas life

headcanons for lil ultimate hope monaka who was manipulated into the towa city situation by komaeda despite being warned by the warriors of hope that he was bad

here are ur headcanons, monaka! i hope u like them, and if u want me to add more or to change anything, just let me know and ill do it! - mod kiibo - when monaka and the other warriors of hope met komaeda, he really seemed like a normal guy. u know, kinda like how he acts at the beginning of sdr2. there was no way for any of them to know that he could be plotting something behind their backs - this is exactly why monaka is confused when the other woh start getting skittish and uncomfortable when komaedas around. komaeda was just so friendly, how could they treat him in such a rude and nervous way? - one day, monaka confronts the other woh about their nervousness around komaeda, only for nagisa to tell her that he was obviously suspicious. monaka didnt believe him, even though they were friends. she just thought he was misguided in his beliefs about komaeda - since monaka trusted him so much, she didnt bat an eyelash when komaeda began telling her to create some things for him. she figured that everything he wanted would be used for the name of hope, since he seemed to love hope so much, so she got to work on helping komaeda - one of the reasons monaka continued to believe in komaeda even when he began to start looking sketchy to others is actually because of his constant hope speech. monaka wanted to believe that he was really invested in bringing hope to the world, so she was willing to believe whatever he told her - monaka didnt really understand why the outside situation only began to get worse once she agreed to help komaeda. she did everything he had asked for, right? so the situation should be getting better, not worse, right? - once monaka had already started helping komaeda make towa city a center for the despair incident, the woh tried again to warn her that komaeda was just leading her on and actually working for despair. monaka still refused to believe them, still wanting to believe there was hope in komaeda and that she hadnt allowed the world to enter a worse state - when komaru started taking the woh down, monaka wasnt sure what to do. every night, she would worry about their safety and cling to the hope that they were all still alright. even if it was just a little bit, monaka did her best to keep believing that hope would win against despair in the end - once monaka found out that komaru had been the one taking down the woh, and that she had already gotten nagisa, was when she realized that komaru must have believed they were some sort of despair group. and the only person she could think of who would actually influence the woh into committing despair acts that she could think of was komaeda - once monaka realized just what was going on, she did her best to cut off all ties with komaeda. from then on, she vowed that she would try in her own way to continue fighting for hope, and began searching for the woh to try and make amends so they could move on and help fill the world with hope
