okay so here’s a non-exhaustive list of miscellaneous shit from the live action fma movies that i can’t quit thinking about:
the fact that general hakuro of all characters was shoehorned in as a major villain in the first film, because why not
throwing THE IMMORTAL LEGION into the first film, BECAUSE WHY NOT
ed wandering off to go visit xerxes one afternoon like it’s no big deal
hohenheim’s sassy ponytail flip
armstrong, nothing else needs to be said
the random inclusion of bald and his gang during the xing crew introduction
literally everything with ling, help
the running gag of ed stepping on people
bradley genuinely being pretty badass and severely underutilized
lan fan’s amputation and ed and riza’s conversation about ishval both happening at knox’s house, which was actually kind of comfy and cute tbh??
kimblee not existing outside of that one ishval flashback where he’s literally jumping up and down bc he’s so happy about committing war crimes
BLUE GREED, just blue greed, huh
scar and mei inhabiting a random cabin that does NOT look abandoned so by all accounts it seems like they just invaded the place
scar and mei’s friendship in general, which genuinely makes far less sense and is way funnier without yoki existing
ed going to briggs on his own like it’s no big deal, like it’s a fun day trip
horrifying cgi sloth
miles having like two and a half lines so in literally every single briggs scene he’s just standing there silently with his sunglasses, truly winning the dgaf war
greed having more eyeliner/eyeshadow every time he appears on screen
the fact that father ALSO appears to wear dramatic eye makeup when he’s in his Younger and Sexier Form™️
the entire fucking insanely rushed conclusion of roy and envy’s arc which made my whole watchparty yell “THIS IS SO FORCED” when we first saw it
father’s evil mouth light beam attacks
greed dying as per usual but ling getting to keep the stone anyways????? i actually need to make a whole post about this because, you know, that’s not how homunculi work in the mangahood universe (and it could turn into the greatest, most delusional greedlives!au of all time)
al getting his body back and ling telling him that he’s more handsome than ed
#fma#an honorable mention goes to the fight with bradley at the gate#wherein fu goes “HARDEN YOURSELF GREED” before running off to go commit warrior dynamite suicide#and i cackled like a 12yo boy#there’s also a million other genuine critiques and things to bitch about but whatever#this is the funney list ok

vengeance thoughts
-i think the writers forgot mercedes became a vampire at the end of s4. rip queen you were a character of all time
-did we need to hear nedley say the word "rizz"
-karen knox of barbelle (2017) fame as the villain...i love you incredibly tight-knit canadian television community
-obsessed with the scene where they contrived an excuse for dominique provost-chalkley to speak french, sexily, despite it adding nothing to the plot.
-honestly my favorite callback of all the callbacks was The Goo. i remember The Goo. i remember everyone's angsty wayhaught theories about The Goo that never came to pass. and we finally got that angsty gooverly vs nicole fight everybody has wanted since 2016
-wayhaught sex
-hellhound designs were cool as hell tbh. i love you practical effects
-i liked how waverly and wynonna essentially switched places by the end - wynonna settling down, waverly seeing the world - and especially how that tied into waverly's arc in s1. she starts the series being held back by the expectations of her tiny town and nicole expands her world beyond what she could have dreamed of, but you can only rely on one person to do that to a point. eventually you have to make the choice to keep growing and keep changing yourself.
-not sure how to feel about doc's death? it did make me cry a little but it just felt like kind of a weird choice to do something so needlessly dark and sad when especially with the emphasis the show had on hope and love prevailing at all costs. it cheapens the s4 finale in a way i don't necessarily like (something which is very much exemplified through the final shot - paralleling the lovely "everyone welcome" ending shot of the series, where it was a capstone on a story that was defiantly, beautifully kind despite being about a woman who kills glowy cgi monsters with a magic gun, with a so-so "but demons please knock!" joke). kind of feels like doc himself in a way - something dead, dragged back to the surface a few too many times.
-that said, i couldn't tell if jeremy's "we're going to fix this" bit was about tracking down lafferty or bringing doc back? they definitely left the door open and since andras is very openly gunning for s5 it would be weird for them to do it without doc. so i wouldn't be surprised if they did a "the gang journeys into hell to get him back" arc if/when s5 happens (<- said the exact same thing about dolls in 2018)
-waverly in a gay little suit
-all in all absolute return to form for wynonna earp - i've been watching buffy for the first time and it was great to watch wynonna next to it, truly the heir apparent. quips and mcguffins and absolutely heartwrenching character work and beautiful women on my television screen. monster of the week i hope you never die

TV Tropes Challenge!
Tell me about your fic using the MANY MANY tropes found at https://tvtropes.org/ I don't think I have seen this done before but I am tagging this as a game for @bardic-inspo @roguishcat @delightfulastariontreat @nyx-knox @bloodinwine @spagyricqueen WARNING!!! Potential Spoilers for What Could Have Been:
After the cut!
Tropes for Sima and Astarion's Relationship:
Sour Knight: Sima embodies this trope as she is morally grey, jaded, and a fiercely independent character who navigates her relationship with Astarion with a mix of affection and defiance.
Dark and Troubled Past: Both Sima and Astarion have experienced trauma that shapes their present behavior. Sima's upbringing with a courtesan mother and Astarion's past under Cazador are essential to their character arcs.
Belligerent Sexual Tension: Their relationship is filled with a push-pull dynamic, constantly shifting between intense desire and intense conflict.
Broken Bird: Both Sima and Astarion fit this trope in different ways. They are scarred by their pasts and navigate their trauma through their complicated relationship.
Bratty Submissive: While Sima never fully adheres to this trope, elements of it come through in her dynamic with Astarion, especially given her defiance against his attempts at control.
The Dark Side Will Make You Forget: This is a possible angle for Astarion after his Ascension, using his newfound power to bury the pain of his past but risking the loss of his more complex emotions.
Tropes for Story:
Earn Your Happy Ending: The story is about the long and difficult path Sima and Astarion take to find any semblance of happiness, requiring personal growth, forgiveness, and hard choices.
Trauma Conga Line: The story puts its characters through intense emotional and physical trials that they must navigate to achieve growth or change.
Power Dynamic: A constant theme in their relationship, especially after Astarion's Ascension, where issues of autonomy, control, and dominance are at the forefront.
Emotional Transformation: Instead of a literal rebirth, this focuses on Sima's evolving state of mind. She has to adapt and transform herself emotionally to survive in an environment where her past skills and attitudes are challenged, symbolizing a 'rebirth' of her inner self rather than any physical change.
Hope Spot: Moments where it seems like Sima and Astarion might find a healthy balance in their relationship, only for it to crumble, requiring more introspection and development.
Morality Pet: Sima serves as a "morality pet" for Astarion in a twisted sense, being one of the few people he shows vulnerability to, even if it is often tainted with possessiveness.
Tropes for Themes:
The Atoner: Astarion, in some respects, aims to seek redemption for the things he's done post-Ascension, but his journey is marred by his internal conflicts and darker urges.
Love Hurts: A trope that defines their relationship—a deep, consuming connection that brings both intense passion and equally intense pain.
The Hedonist: Astarion embodies this trope after his Ascension, indulging in power, control, and pleasures without the same constraints he had as a spawn.
Not So Different: Both Sima and Astarion reflect this trope, each wrestling with their own darkness and the need for control or power, but from different perspectives.
Driven to Villainy: Astarion’s Ascension and his decisions post-Ascension can be seen as this trope. He isn’t a straightforward villain, but he makes increasingly questionable choices due to his obsession with power.
Together in Death: This is a future foreshadowing trope if Sima and Astarion’s story ultimately ends in a form of twisted union, whether literal or metaphorical.

* The character Kenzo gets his name from a minor villain in Stone Ocean.
* Silverwing Enrico Luna gets his name from Stone Ocean villain Enrico Pucci and his second Stand C-Moon.

* Eve’s lover Remina gets her name from Hellstar Remina.

* Gideon Golightly’s last name comes from the Cinema Snob’s last name, as revealed in his first movie.

* Nick Scratch, Sebastian Darke’s devil son, gets his name from two of Satan’s monikers: Old Nick and Mr. Scratch.
* Hansel Armstrong gets his name from the story of Hansel and Gretel, something that is commented on in-universe as he went through a similar experience as a child.
* Sebastian Darke’s merfolk daughter Charybdis gets her name from the whirlpool-creating monster of Greek myth, fitting for the queen of the Mediterranean and doubly so since she loves to create whirlpools herself.
Literature
* The hunter organization the Silverwings gets their name from the bat-themed novel Silverwing.
* Humbert Archambault gets his first name from Humbert Humbert of Lolita, though rather than being a pedophile he is only a horribly unpleasant person.
* Both in and out of universe, Dorian Ferris gets his name from Dorian Gray.
* Mina Lovett gets her name from Mina Harker from Dracula; by a stroke of luck, “Wilhelmina” is also a name attributed to Mrs. Lovett.
* Allen Lecarde’s name is obviously supposed to sound like “Alucard”—Dracula backwards. This is commented on in-universe.
* Arya Mournblade, the main character of an in-universe film franchise, gets her name from Arya Stark of A Song of Ice and Fire fame.
* Yorick’s witch coven member Red Death is a big shout out to the works of Edgar Allen Poe, from his moniker to his real name (Fortunato) to the name of his raven familiar (Lenore).

* Rose Milliner gets her name from the psychic vampire Rose the Hat from Doctor Sleep.
* The surname of the Cullens family is inspired by the family of the same name from Twilight.

* Sebastian Darke’s djinn daughter Shahrazad is named after the narrator of the Arabian Nights tales.
* Very weird case with Amalric Dracula; while initially he was meant to be a public domain crossover character, he changed so much and is so radically different (he’s a good guy, he’s not white, etc) that he’s really only getting the name from the famous vampire.
Music
* Sebastian Darke’s first name comes from the band Sin With Sebastian.
* Marianna Cross is named after the Ghost song “Mary on a Cross.”
* “Little Sunshine,” Darke’s pet name for Goldie Dawn, comes from the Ghost song “Call Me Little Sunshine.”

* The name Roxanne comes from the song of the same name.
* Her surname is the same as Sting’s.
* The alter Stewart is named after drummer Stewart Copeland.
* While the alter Dolores’ name comes from the novel Lolita, it doubles as an allusion to an infamously clunky line from “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” that mentions “That book by Nabokov.”
* The alter Bottles is named after the song “Message in a Bottle.”
* The alter Frances is named after Sting’s ex-wife Frances Tomelty. Her moniker of “Breathtaker” is a reference to “Every Breath You Take.”

* Izzy C. Palazzo, the magical clown girl from the Sons of Salem, has the initials ICP, a reference to Insane Clown Posse.
* Macheath Sharpe’s first name comes from the song “Mack the Knife.” In addition, their father’s family name was Fleetwood, which technically makes them Fleetwood Mac(k).

Oh, The Magical History of Knox County. You had potential. You did not live up to it.
Premise: A guy with an environmental studies degree gets a job at a radio station not realizing the name (same as the podcast) isn't a joke and magic is real. His predecessor is missing and the only other staff at the station hates him because she loves and misses his predecessor.
This review has some spoilers in it, but, then, I strongly recommend you do not listen to this podcast.
So. I love fish-out-of-water stories, especially when the apparent fish learns to basically fly or otherwise excel in the new environment. This was not that.
Mordecai spends little time being enchanted by magic. He's really just confused. I think he was supposed to have an arc of "we can't get involved b/c we're reporters" to "being a bystander isn't an option" but it is very poorly executed.
Side characters, including Ned who is in every episode, are barely developed at all. They show up only when useful to Mordecai (even if he doesn't know they're useful yet). When a character is killed, it barely registers.
When Mordecai accidentally kills someone to save his own life, there's barely a reaction. He gets angry and blames someone else for not taking better notes when he was the one who chose to act and made promises he couldn't keep.
Actions have no weight. When Mordecai pisses one guy off, it has no impact on the subsequent episodes. Also, when the guy shows up again, they reference their earlier encounter, but the dude still helps him.
The villain is a just a guy who wanted to stop killing things. His magic is fueled by exchanges and no one had issues with him killing plants, small animals, etc so that he could help them out. But he wanted to stop. So, when he realized the town sat on top of a huge cache of magic, he decided to tap into it, not realizing that doing so would awaken that magic in a way and lead to the apocalypse. His every action has been him desperately trying to fix what he broke with no one even offering to help. His one friend accused him instead of asking what was wrong. I mean, the guy did some despicable things--he is a murderer--but he was a guy at the trolley switch. As he saw it it was a few murders or the entire world.
Anyway. As an example of why this podcast bugs me so much. The town has a tree that supposedly binds people together if they write their names onto the tree. And you can do it to someone without their permission. If the names are written, they're together forever.
Mordecai, while trying to find Abraham, the antagonist, writes their names on the tree and the antagonist finds him shortly after. Then the antagonist later apparently dies (except he's faced that exact same situation before and did not die because of prep he'd done and he promised he wasn't going to die this time either. Mordecai has a tape of him dying, but that's just audio and, by this point in the podcast, I'd learn to not fully trust sounds like that).
The tree binding is never mentioned again. It never matters. It never does anything other than give a magical boost to help Abraham find Mordecai one time. It is pointless.
(I wanted Abraham to come back or to be a ghost bound to Mordecai or something. Or even Mordecai feeling compelled to save him from being attacked. Anything.)
The characters are also a bit...dumb. Mordecai and Ned just rush into things and never think about the big picture or even step back just once and take stock. So much tragedy could have been avoided if they had.
It is only 8 episodes.
Yes. They tried to set up a magical setting, missing person plot, and end of the world in only 8 half-hour episodes (well, to be fair, the 7th episode is almost an hour).
Is it a betrayal when we learn who the antagonist is? Not really. It's like his third appearance. And, what about the other antagonists? One disappears and the other shows up briefly in the penultimate episode to answer a question for Mordecai.
Ned (the station attendant) has some history with the beastiary people, not that we ever learn what it is. She also goes from hating Mordecai in ep 1 to considering him a close friend who she can't possibly watch die in ep 7. Did Mordecai and Ned share any moments of relationship growth in the interim episodes? Of course not! She hated him when that was convenient for the story and then liked him when some extra drama was needed.
(Okay, not hated, but resented and disliked. But still).
When does Mordecai decide it is actually bad being only a bystander? When plot convenient. Utterly unsure why he decided that, though.
And what's Mordecai's motivation throughout everything? He wants to know what's going on. That's it. Yeah, yeah, his predecessor, but he's more interested in that as a mystery than anything else.
The only character who genuinely wants something and displays layers is Abraham, which is why I like him so much. I genuinely felt bad for him when he said he wanted to stop killing. And the way he kept trying to justify a murder as a sacrifice because it was very clear he was wracked with guilt and pretending otherwise. He needed it to be just another sacrifice or else he's a murderer.
Multiple people even tell Mordecai that Abraham is not a bad person. He's just someone who is trying to do good, but going about the wrong way.
And we see how Abraham has long been a helpful force in the community. He was just tired of trades and death. His 'tap into the magic' idea worked initially and he didn't go mad with power or anything like that. From start to finish, he is someone who wants to do good, but feels like he has very limited choices (e.g., the trolley switch). And he chooses to flip the switch even though he hates doing so.
(Mordecai, by the way, refuses to dirty his hands even a little. Mordecai's solution to the trolley problem is to jump on the tracks and derail the trolley with his body.)
So we have a compelling and interesting antagonist who is utterly wasted on a bland, rushed, poorly constructed story.
(Note: Abraham is not heroic and definitely committed multiple murders of helpless people. He also tried to stop Mordecai's predecessor (and his own close friend) from investigating, but, by that point, she'd already accused him and so, I think, he saw little use in trying to explain again. So he just wanted her out of the way so that he could do what he thought had to be done. He later blamed Ned for not intervening or distracting the predecessor from her investigations. But I think this is also a manifestation of the guilt weighing on him.)
It is just so annoying to listen to something that you know should have been better.

Chapter 190
wow I'm back with these things! didn't do them for a bit, and to be honest I thought this chapter break was very long, but that's just because I forgot last month's chapter happened for a moment. weird cause I thought it was sad and funny, but reasonable.
yana really went hard here and I'm so happy, Ada deserves this panel so much☆☆☆ I'll maybe never see her again and I'll probably forget soon but girl you a keeper.
I like that we have this little thing here, shows us everyone we know so far, kinda. yana's refusal to draw Polaris's right eye really doesn't do good for me. those other two seem to be people we don't know. I think I still fall on the possibility of him being Joker, which is a common theory. makes sense enough. but I'm not committed.
also, the one on the bottom left looks to be of Asian decent right? the only connection I can think of is to the quin bang, but that's a stretch.
also some of you know lots a flowers and that's very cool! that's a flower back there right? idk. I suck at flowers.
my first impression when he makes these shocked faces is that he's truly alarmed by the information. however after reading the panel below, it seems like that face is just his "new scheme in the making" face.
nice to see Lau is the same as ever. I really hope Ada and the rest have some sort of freedom from now on. Lau is sly with his repayment debts anyway. and I sure hope this is some side "i must bring honor to my country" thing and not some more relevant plot twist thing.
this poor girl I want to give her everything. she was meant to do nothing more in this world. also me too Lau. glad we all agree some information just gets lost over time. how is this man so powerful??
@grelleswife mentioned that so far all of the servants arcs have ended with a sunset, and thats a cool observation! i like that. gives me hope for the future. ofc yana isn't too predictable, but still. generally this panel is just... mhm. feelings.
that seems like a wrap then, overall super mega happy ending, finally!! it's been so long. I gotta say it doesn't feel as complete as a wrap that we were all expecting, but I think that's the general fault of having too much time to theorize and then totally expecting an explosion and multiple deaths. Ada is taken care of, Bard's alive, no one dies hazah. I think we can safely say that no one will die in these miny arcs until we get to ciel and sebastian unfortunetly.
one more thing though.
ngl i kinda forgot he was even here for a moment, no shade to Ronald I was excited and expectant but that's just what happens with a poor memory and 9 pages a month.
sorry that I'm just unable to buy the official translations atm so sit through my possibly unofficial confusion for a moment please. so Al is someone who seemingly is an ally of Layla, or so she thought. I have doubts that Ronald is a twist villain, even if it's just hopeful thinking. here though, Ronald's dialogue does in a way make it seem that he was supposed to meet with her, and she was certainly expected an "Al". RonAld is too much of a stretch right? or is that what is meant to be assumed?... what was his doctor allias again anyway, Dr. Knox right? idk sorry I gotta reread this whole arc soon but luckily it won't take long.
I would frankly be mad if Ronald turns out to be a secret baddy because 1) means future conflict with our cast. and grelle :< no they're meant to be best buds. also 2) means we need a whole other chapter to explain this and have them talk. nope, we're gone now sorry.
I doubt he is, I just wonder what type of deal he would have brought up with her.
and yea please discard the child, im very sorry to whatever she was before the fake soul inhabited the body, truly, my heart brakes. now throw it away.
#thanks again to anyone who bothers to read even half of this! or scroll to the bottom. you are appreciated#also sorry i barely spell and grammar check these ill start doing it if its too much of a problem#my fingers and brain are spead rn not smart spead just spead#kuroshitsuji#black butler#kuro 190#kuroshitsuji 190#chapter 190#kuro chapter 190#kuro spoilers#chapter 190 spoilers#kuroshitsuji spoilers#black butler manga#kuroshitsuji manga#if ronald actually goes by Al here ill be mad just go by Ron you idiot

Okay, how about:
Which episode from each season do you feel is the weakest, and how would you change them?
Ah. Well I’m no screenwriter or something. But episodes that have a satisfiying/good ending are ones I like the most
Anyways. I wouldn’t say the episodes are “weak” but there’s only 1 ep in the series that I legit dislike. It being a weak ending is just another sprinkle (spoiler alert: its a Season 3 ep)
Enough rambling. onto the list!
Season 1: I actually could not find an ep that I thought was weak. Like there are some eps I’m just happy with, even ones people say weren’t the best. So yeah got nothing for this season tbh.
Season 2: Fred The Fugitive
Personally I think this should’ve been the ep where the fugitive aspect of the fugitive arc ended. I think it starts of well, but I’d just change what happens in Muihara. Like Diego explains his backstory more (and if the villain that killed his dad was Dark Volt or not, I mean that’s everyone’s theory) and Hiro calling him out. I mean Hiro could tell Diego that him villainizing and making big hero 6 the enemy isn’t doing anyone any favors, if he had a problem with them, then he could’ve just talked to them about it instead of trying to arrest them. And also I think Aunt Cass could’ve done that as well! Big Hero 6 saved the city she lives in multiple times, and caught Yokai, who was responsible for what happened to Tadashi, heck even Megan could’ve chewed him out for ditching Aunt Cass on their date just to chase Big Hero 6 and make him realize that him going down the path of relentlessly hunting down vigilantes no matter what it took is starting to destroy his bond with his family and loved ones.
I just think this ep could’ve been the turning point for Diego to realize that what he was doing was wrong, even if he thought it was for a good cause.
Season 3: Return To Sycorax
I genuinely have no idea why this episode is a thing. We don’t even know if it’s canon because it does a “just a dream” phase! I think I maybe would’ve rewritten it to maybe something going on at Sycorax and og Liv had to call the team, and the abandoned sub-levels where the monsters were created was where the gang had to investigate. Bonus points if Karmi was part of this and she and Hiro talked about what happened in COM with the whole trauma of Di trying to force Karmi to eat her friend and bonus bonus points if they talk about some of the former mutated victims that didn’t want what happened to them, like Orso Knox (and HV like c’mon--)
The uh... the food monsters I feel like should’ve just stayed in the Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs series, like c’mon Fred’s not that dense to think that a giant machine like that is a microwave.
Hope you enjoyed listening to my opinions about this show. I’m chill with people’s thoughts about eps and I don’t rly like complaining about any of the eps, I do like them (except Return To Sycorax but it’s not that bad of an ep, I just don’t like the fact that it doesn’t answer any COM questions and its probably not even canon). And sorry if I offended anyone with my hot takes n.n;

1960′s Bond films ranked
,1960′s was the era of Bond mania ,and it was the decade with the most movies ,with 7 movies(Second to it is the 80′s with 6 movies ,then the 70′s with 5 ,90′s and 2000′s both only had 3 each ,and 2010′s only had 2 ) ,and since the 60′s is the most classic era of Bond ,I decided to rank the 60′s Bond films
7.Casino Royale(1967)
Yup I am counting the unofficial movies too and this is the only film on the list I would say is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. This is a crappy movie, pure insanity with no clear vision and it commits the biggest sin of a comedy :ITS NOT FUNNY .....Woody Allan as a Bond Villain is a funny joke though
6.Thunderball(1965)
Only Bond film in which I have read the book. It’s an OK book ,love some of the characters but it was just fine .....But I like it better then the movie .This is a boring movie to me ,Largo is only remembered fondly cause he has an eyepatch as he is a lame villain ,Domino is a lot less interesting then her book counterpart ,there is a cringeworthy scene with Bond blackmailing a physiotherapist into sleeping with him ,there is a random character who is important to the plot but the film doesnt treat him this way ,the Q scene feels less playful and more meanspirited and underwater battles sound cool in theory ,but are dull in practice .That said I do like aspects ,Connery is good ,I like the SPECTRE scene (Love Shadowy Blofeld ) ,the pre title action scene is great (Complete with ACTUAL WORKING REAL JETPACK ),The theme song performed by Tom Jones is AMAZING ,and I do love the films main henchwoman Fiona Volpe ,she is such an awesome baddie I wish she was the MAIN villain .I know it’s considered a classic but I just cant get into it
5.You Only Live Twice (1967)
THis one I am .....Mixed about . I think it’s directed well ,there are some cool camera movements, the Little Nellie gyrocoptor is awesome ,the fight scene against the driver (Played by Peter Maiva ,the grandfather of Dwayne “The Rock “ Johnson ,which is awesome ) is pretty badass , The Volcano Lair is SPECTACULAR (PRobabbly the best villain lair in the series ) ,Tiger Tanaka is a likable ally ,Aki is a great Bond Girl,Nancy Sinatras theme song is good ,it’s cool seeing a snapshot of 1960′s Japan ,the final battle is epic ,and Donald Pleasence is FANTASTIC as Blofeld ,bringing such a creepiness to a character who has been built up for 5 movies .....But what holds it back for me is Connery looks so damn bored throughout the entire movie ,the plot I dont really care about ,Helga is just a rehash of Fiona and not even in a interesting way ,KArl is such a boring henchman ,Aki is killed off just to be replaced by Kissy who is less interesting and I dont know why they didnt just have one Bond girl ,DOnald Pleasence is barely in the movie ,and then you have Bond going undercover as a Japanese man......Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah.This is just such a mixed bag of a movie for me
4.Dr No (1962)
Now lets get to the good ones. This is a lowkey Bond adventure(As they couldnt afford to do one of the bigger stories ) ,and I imagine that can be jarring for someused to the high octane globe trotting adventures of the other films, and I have seen some calll it Vanilla .....And I kind of like the simpler vibe of this film .Connery comes out the gate swinging ,he is suave and with moments of brutality. Both the Bond girl and villain arent in the film long but Ursula Andress is memorable as Honey Ryder and Joseph Wiseman as Dr No while only getting really one scene to show off has a cold detached delivery to his lines that makes him extremely eerie (Would’ve preferred a Chinese actor and am distressed none were even considered but thats the 60′s for you ) .Anthony Dawson makes for a good secondary villain as Professor Dent ,Jack Lord is a cool Felix Leiter ,John Kitzmiller is great as Bonds ally Quarrel ,the film sets up Bonds dynamics with both Bernard Lee’s M and Lois Maxwell’s Miss Moneypenny ,both making strong first impressions ,the film is brutal with it’s action ,and overalll it’s a good introduction to the world of Bond
3.Goldfinger(1964)
The iconic Bond film .This film is fun ,plain and simple. It has flaws (Mainly there being a whole section of the plot involving gangsters that makes absolutely no sense and how Pussy Galore turns good is REALLLY cringeworthy) but I feel like the rest of the film is awesome .The villain Auric Goldfinger is one of the best (Easilly my second favorite in the series )ruthless and greedy but with an odd sense of charm ,I just love watching him .The films main henchman Oddjob is also awesome ,a super strong silent loyal thug who kills people with a toss of his killer bowler hat .Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore is fantastic ,easily one of the best Bond girls, and while I dont like how her arc is handled,I do like that she starts off as a baddie .The film is full of classic moments from Goldfinger and Bonds golf game ,the laser scene (And the classic exchange “You expect me to talk”*Chuckles*”No mr Bond ,I expect you to DIE!!”),the fight between Bond and Oddjob in Fort Knox (Which is a gorgeous set by Ken Adam ) and of course the iconic image of the dead woman painted gold .I also have just a personal fondness for this film as when I was a kid we had a whole bunch of Bond films on VHS (From Dr No to Live and Let Die ) and this was the one I watched the most
2.From Russia With Love (1963)
I flip flop on whether I like Goldfinger or From Russia With Love more ,and I think I prefer From Russia With Love ,for one simple reason :Goldfinger is a fun action romp .....From Russia With Love is a genuinely intriguing spy movie .It’s also cool cause it is a direct sequel to Dr No which is an anomaly in the classic Bond films. There isnt one villain in this film ,it’s an organization ,SPECTRE ,meaning we get a whole ensamble of villains (Including creepy evil genius Kronsteen and SPECTRES head thug Morzeny),but the stand outs are Red Grant played by Robert Shaw of Jaws fame, a sadistic assassin who is sort of Bonds dark mirror and Lotte Lenya as Rosa Klebb ,a former SMERSH agent now working for SPECTRE ,who is commanding in every scene .....EXCEPT fore when she is around the films true villain Blofeld,in those scenes she is TERRIFIED ,and thats a detail I love cause it adds to Blofeld mystique, that if he can scare KLEBB he is a force to be reckoned with .I also love that we dont actuallly SEE Blofeld beyond his hands stroking his cat ,and yet personality wise we get everything we need to know (That and his deep commanding voice which I LOVE ) .We also get Kerim Bey who is hands down the BEST Bond sidekick ,he is so lovable and charming,it’s hard not to like him.Connery is excellent as usual ,all the action is awesome including Bond evading a helicopter ,a climatic boat chase,an encounter with a deadly piece of footwear, and a absolutely brutal fight between Grant and Bond on the Orient Express .If I have one complaint I am not that fond of how the Bond Girl Tatiana is written but Daniela Bianchi does a good job .Overall this is a great movie
1.On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)
This is my favorite Bond movie .It is at it’s core a love story and a damn good one .Diana Rigg steals this entire movie as Tracy ,she is the best Bond girl .Telly Savals is charming ,intelligent ,but also tough as hell as Blofeld ,he is my third favorite Bond villain and hands down my favorite Blofeld .I think the film contains one of the best evil plans (And surprisingly relevent over 50 years later ),Irma Bunt is a terrific henchwoman ,Gabriele Ferzetti is entertaining as Tracy’s criminal father Draco ,Louis Armstrongs We Have All The Time In The World is a terrific love song ,I love the setting of the Swiss Alps ,the film somehow makes a BOBSLED chase badass ,and the ending is unforgettable .Now the one common complaint people have is George Lazenby ,and while I agree he isnt great ......He is a good Bond ,and he hits the dramtic notes when he needs to .I adore this movie and reccomend it to non Bond fans even
