in an exercise for motivation, i’m making the decision to share my OC team of the USC Trojans! this started years ago, wayyyy pre-TSC announcement, as a background for a Jerejean fic called 'Steady Now' but well. as OCs do, it got out of hand realllll quick. now everyone's got a complex backstory AND storyline!

in bold are my OCs, ready for you to be introduced to ; in regular are Nora Sakavic's characters, but i painted them with my watercolors so you should absolutely ask me about them too!! if there is [redacted], that character's not ready to be born yet! or sometimes it's just an issue of final name... if the name is underlined or has numbers beside it, it means i've provided some lore already, but you should def ask more about them, always!!

First thoughts?

The cookbook is really nice and it has a cute little short story involving Tess and Knox. It really just shows them both at Fablehaven which is something we really didn’t get in Dragonwatch…

I will say though, Seth and Kendra are not featured but are mentioned once if you were interested in those two! They are both busy at Wyrmroost apparently.

The recipes seem pretty easy but I’d have to test them myself to see, which probably won’t be for a week or two due to my recovery.

I will say, some of these look AMAZING, and almost every single character besides some endgame ones get their own little recipes. It’s really adorable.. I don’t think I can share the recipes, but I think I can share photos of what they are in the cookbook.

Safe to say, the fairy bread and Brackens milkshake/smoothie might kill me. They’re both really cute looking but I might die if I consume them which I’m a bit scared to try them in the future but we ball..

Seth’s food also looks absolutely amazing? And it’s a really easy recipe because let’s be honest, he probably can’t cook for the life of him. It’s just a peanut butter sandwich with banana and Nutella, and I’ve had that in the past and I can say from like a standard view, it’s pretty good and I recommend trying it (Apparently you can put potato chips and cereal with it, which,,, is unique to say the least!)

Kendra’s treat looks also amazing, it’s just Chocolate-covered krispies but it’s still pretty good looking, I’m definitely gonna try this one. This one also just has such a cozy feeling to it because of the little description they added which involves Kendra just letting the brownies make them late at night as it storms.. which, Seth doesn’t have that, it’s just a very short description on how he thinks peanut butter goes with everything.

Besides that, Kendra’s is very sweet and silly and I feel it goes with her character amazingly.

Hugo also has a recipe, it’s mudslide ice cream cake which seems so good? I’m definitely gonna try it when I’m able to as well.

Grandma Larsen also has cute little unicorn cookies and they’re genuinely so adorable looking, I would in fact, take a chunk out!

Aside from the recipes, the cookbook is really nice and it has a cute design on the inside upon opening it and I stared at it for a bit because the neurons in my brain were processing every little design there…The cookbook has such a silly design and feel to it and if you’re into baking as well as the series, it’s a cool thing to collect and also use if you ever wanna make a cool and unique looking treat for you or your family or friends! It’s your average cookbook but to me at the least it’s very sweet.

(PS: the hotdogs have little eyes on them and I couldn’t resist sharing a photo because they’re so cute)

Hi! I've noticed in some tags you've mentioned finding evidence that Knox and Tess's last name isn't Larsen which I think is interesting. Would you mind sharing what exactly you found?

Yes- it's just from a throwaway line in Dragonwatch.

"Your cousins and the Larsens are coming to breakfast." implies their cousins, Tess and Knox, are not Larsens.

Initially, I was confused, but the family tree works out. Marla, Kendra and Seth's mother, whose last name was Larsen, must be the sister of Marci and Zola, Tess and Knox's mother. They'd take their father Pete's surname.

Books Into Movies: The Sea Wolf (1941)

First things first ... let me start by saying that this has been one of the hardest posts I've created so far in terms of narrowing down which pictures / videos to use for a Tumblr post. This is a movie that was adapted from a book. One of the main characters is a writer. One of the characters reads a lot of books and finds inspiration in books. Characters discuss books, and there are still shots and loooooong panning shots of books.

In conclusion, there are lots of colorful characters, and lots and LOTS of books.

So, that's why I'm going to be outsourcing a little more than usual, because there was SO MUCH about this movie that I wanted to share, and not enough space to share it!

Okay, so I'll start with a quick overview: This movie was one of many adaptations of this classic story by Jack London, but it's also considered one of the best. It stars Edward G. Robinson as "Wolf" Larsen, the captain of the Ghost, a ship with a very bad reputation. His memorable entrance reveals just how cruel of a man he can be.

Joining Captain Larsen on the ship (some more willingly than others), are Ida Lupino as Ruth Brewster, John Garfield as George Leach, and Alexander Knox as Humphrey Van Weyden. Oh, and I'll give special mention to Barry Fitzgerald as Cooky, the character I most wanted to suffer a terrible demise as quickly as possible.

Humphrey and Ruth wind up on the ship after their boat has an accident and the Ghost's crew rescues them. George joins the crew of the Ghost because he has no other options. Ruth and George are both running from the law, which makes them especially vulnerable.

Everyone has their own reasons for despair, but one thing is for sure: Being on the Ghost is bad luck for everyone.

When Humphrey goes into the captain's quarters, he discovers to his surprise that this cruel brute of a man has quite a library in his cabin. This is important because it creates an uneasy relationship between the captain who loves books, and Humphrey the author who has started writing about his own experiences on the Ghost.

One of the captain's books is a fancy edition of Milton's Paradise Lost, illustrated by Gustav Dore (if you're interested in buying one of these today, you'll discover that they cost A LOT!!!):

And this book has some passages underlined that seem to mean a lot to the captain (these lines will later be yelled back and forth between Humphrey and the captain during their arguments):

Meanwhile, Ruth and George are forming a bond of their own. They both have a criminal history, they're both desperate to escape the Ghost, and most importantly, since a transfusion of his blood saved her life ... could you get any closer than that?

Oh, and because I'm entertained by old Hollywood optics, I would like to point out that while both of them are SUPER-DUPER ATTRACTIVE, George is sweaty but Ruth is not. Because, you know ... ladies don't sweat???

And now, here comes another of my favorite sloooooow panning shots! The crew had enough of the captain ruling over them with an iron fist, so they had a mutiny, which FAILED. This shot shows everyone on board waiting to see what the consequences will be:

Time passes, and things get worse. There are only a few people left on the now-sinking ship. The captain is still consumed with Humphrey's book, and how he will be portrayed in it:

In the end, we're left with our two young lovers on a lifeboat, who just discovered that there was an island on the other side of that fog bank. Thank goodness they're saved!

And thank goodness for foundation, or powder, or whatever Ruth is using to keep looking so lovely:

OKAY updated version of this post because I have changed my headcanons slightly. Fablehaven characters & how they'd react to you asking for their pronouns! (This is just my personal opinion but I am also correct don’t think about it too hard)

Kendra: "My pronouns? I use she/her, for the most part."

Seth: "He/him, but I also like they/them. You?"

Vanessa: "I'm fine with she/her, but it doesn't matter much."
