This poor little girl is very frightened of other dogs, & I regret taking her to a place with so many @ her owner’s request; what he thought was a mild aversion is more like full blown panic & fear 😰 We will spend our next sessions focusing on one or two other dogs, practicing desensitization & counter conditioning at a distance she is comfortable with. Know. Your. Pets. Two years ago, our vet noticed that Louis had developed a heart murmur. They recommended a scan as this is a common symptom of heart disease which is a serious, lifelong condition. The first scan showed very early signs of HD, but nothing to medicate or worry about at the time. We were advised to come back for another scan a year later - but that fell during the first UK lockdown and we've only now had the means to arrange the second scan. Today he's had his follow up. We won't get the full report until next week, but the consultant has advised it's time to start medication and we're expecting the first prescription to arrive Monday. Heart disease isn't curable and it's something that will affect Louis's quality of life as he continues to get older. Part of me is anxious - worrying over the what ifs and how longs - but I'm mostly relieved that we have a diagnosis because now we know what to do and look out for. We've caught it early, so hopefully that means we can keep the worst at bay with the right combo of meds, diet, and exercise. In much better news, Louis has also been on a diet since November and we confirmed today that he's lost half a kilo! 👏🏻 It doesn't sound much, but in a dog his size it makes a huge difference, particularly on his heart. He has more energy, he's more playful, he's keeping up on walks - the only downside is he's also humping everything in sight again 🤦🏼‍♀️🤢 dirty old man!!! But in all seriousness, this is why I ask you to know your pets! Learn what illnesses your breeds are more susceptible to, and learn what "off" or "unwell" looks like in your babies because some animals are exceptionally good at hiding their discomfort. If you have any doubts or concerns whatsoever, please speak to your vet!
