Lord Hermes Deep dive

Lord Hermes is amazing, he is the darling of the gods and of our hearts, he is strong in gymnastics and in spirit, he is the last thing we see, and the lord of our words, and as a worshiper and as a researcher I believe he is amazing and wonderful, I absolutely adore him, so I should probably stop writing, or it'll become a love letter, but I've worshiped this god for around 2 years, maybe more, but I know well he is amazing and deserves respect.

Some summarized myths •

Birth- Hermes was born from his mother Maia, the goddess of the fields, and his Father Zeus, he hid in a cave with his mother in Mt. Cyllene in Arcadia, the same day he was born (or when he was a toddler), he ran away while his mother was out, he stole cattle and turned their feet backwards, to 'trick' Apollo, he went back to the cave and made a fire and sacrificed 2 cows to catch the gods attention and ate 1 and hid the rest, outside after he ate he saw a  tortoise feeding and cleaned it out and made strings together from a cow he ate, and made a lyre and a plectrum, and Apollo found him, furious he took him to his father and he denied everything and zeus found it hilarious, and he had to head back to the place where he hid the cattle, on the way he played the lyre, Apollo was enamored by it and asked for it and in return he would be his best friend and forgive him, and while helping Apollo tend to the cattle he made pan pipes, which Apollo made him a deal for his iconic golden snake staff and the skill of phropecy by using pebbles.

Killing Argos- Zeus had a lover Io, Who he was laying with in a field, Hera saw and strolled over, he struck in panic turned her into a cow, and Hera came over and demanded it as a gift, and zeus obliged, zeus in a panic asked Hermes to slay it, Hermes went to the cane where the all-seeing giant was, he lured him to sleep with a song, and when he was asleep, he slashed all his eyes and killed him, and took the cow, and in grief Hera turned the giant into a peacock to save the memory and to honor the giant. that's the myth where he gained the title 'Argos slayer'

CANON: Those bound to the aspect of Light are the universe's knowledge-seekers. They are, above all, driven to learn and understand. They are great alchemists, able to take multiple sources of information and synthesize them into something useful. They are scholars and researchers, absolutely dedicated to knowledge for knowledge's sake. They are the ultimate students, and although that might conjure up the image of people sitting around peacefully waiting for knowledge to be brought to them, that couldn't be further from the truth. The Light-bound will go after knowledge with a fierce intensity that others may find distasteful. They aren't overly concerned with laws or norms, either. They often take rules as simple suggestions, instead searching for loopholes or work-arounds. At their best, the Light-bound are resourceful and driven. At their worst they can be fussy, pedantic, and insensitive.

A Mage of Light is almost constantly experiencing knowledge and evaluation from the people around them and their surroundings, which gives them a unique understanding of how insight and the meaning of something can help a situation... or hurt a situation.

A Mage of Light is flooded with Light (Knowledge, Evaluation, Insight, Meaning), uniquely experiencing both the good and the bad of it. As a result, they gain a unique understanding of what Light is and does, often resenting it or becoming jaded and frustrated with it, but never rejecting it. Their challenge is to become open to new insight or different perspectives than their own.

They seek knowledge of Light with a fierce intensity in order to gain more understanding of it, acknowledging the potential consequences of doing so and dealing with them later. Their challenge is to learn how to translate their insight and knowledge into action and decision, as well as learn how to manage their engagement with Light so as to not overwhelm themself or others.

Witch of Void (Inverse): As the Seer of Light attempts to gain experience with Light from their previous lack of it, they end up changing Void, whether on purpose or accidental. A Prince of Light destroys Light (Knowledge, Evaluation, Insight, Meaning) with Light or in the name of Light, and as a result, often end up appearing as Void (Secrecy, Unknown, Potential, Possibilities) at first glance. Princes start off with disdain or hate for Light, likely because of its overwhelming presence in their lives, and because despite its abundance, they can never seem to grasp or control it for themself. Their challenge is to be able to recognize Light's presence in themself before they destroy themself beyond repair, and learn that they do not need to control or bend Light to their will.

Maid of Void (Inverse): As the Prince of Light destroys pieces of Light in themself and others, they end up gaining reliance on Void, whether on purpose or accidental. A Bard of Light allows Light (Knowledge, Evaluation, Insight, Meaning) to be destroyed via simply not reaching out for it, and ignoring its presence in their lives, leading to them appearing as Void (Secrecy, Unknown, Potential, Possibilities) at first glance. This is typically due to a fear of being controlled by Light; while they may see benefits to what it could offer them, they can also see all the downsides to it simply because of their fear of what could go wrong. This is a tournament of little-known Pathologic characters, from "appears once in-game" to "died prior to the Facebook sub-tangent of a promotional ARG from 2014". I've written short biographies for each of the 32 contestants. Vote for your favorite in each match, or if you don't have favorites, the character you'd call most underappreciated. (It's all a scheme to draw attention to these people...!)

I'm not going to maintag matches during the first round (there are 16 of them), but will do so for the rest. All matches will be tagged #unknownpathobracket, for tracking/blacklist purposes.

SHAZAM SHAZAM SHAZAM pls tell us about billy batson. ive only ever seen the movies o great comic knower

Very very very VERY far from comic expert (that's brawltogethernow) but I have read a lot of Shazam. His history is actually really, really fascinating and involves more than one lawsuit that really defined very early comics. I'll focus on one thing, though.

There are two Captain Marvels: One from the 1940s to around 2013, and one from 2013 til now. The Captain Marvel you're familiar with (who is named Shazam) is from 2013. He's a more realistic, grounded character. He was created to be pretty much the polar opposite of his original version. The best summary is to say that the Wizard chose Billy Batman 1940 because he had the purest heart, and the Wizard chose Billy Batson ~2013 because he was there. My personal 'best' Shazam story is the "Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil" graphic novel by the guy who made Bone. It's good because it's for elementary schoolers yet acknowledges this small child as homeless. Which, don't get me wrong, you shouldn't always do. My personal favorite is the 1970s ones.

As some background: Otto Binder was the creator/main writer of the very early Captain Marvel comics. He was by far and away the best writer of the early Superman Silver Age comics, because all of his comics were batshit insane. Shazam has a complicated and legal history with Superman, so the 1970 run was a super fun high camp tongue in cheek reinvention of the best Silver Age stories.

So the 1970 Captain Marvel comics are insane.

I can't even summarize them without sounding crazy. Basically the conceit is that Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr, and Mary Marvel (Billy, Freddy, and Mary) are having 1940s Golden Age Adventures when they get somehow in suspended animation and are basically time travelled to the 1970s. This don't bother them too much. Why would it bother them. Nothing bothers these people. Nothing. I don't think anybody experiences a negative emotion in these comics. Not bc they were twee. Bc they were insane.

Many of the comics basically had three shorter comics inside it: one Billy story, one Mary story, one Freddy story. Interestingly, they all had different art styles, artists, types of story, genre, etc. Billy's stories had a cartoony art style with very over-the-top and silly plotlines that involved supervillain bad dudes. Freddy's art was slightly more realistic and was slighty more grounded, but still had some classic Marvel indescribable scifi that can best be summarized as that one meme panel people have seen where Sivana recites a science equation that lets him walk through walls. Mary's stories were much more realistically drawn and featured the most banal shit, like her starting a club with her friends. Somehow Mary Marvel gets involved in those.

Sometimes they worked together and did superhero things and fought bad guys. The average fight looked like this:

Billy was a twelve year old who lived by himself, in his own apartment, had his own radio show, a full-ass job, a whole thing as Captain Marvel. He paid fucking taxes. Everybody knew this and nobody cared. He's the most affable, good natured kid on the face of the planet. Nothing bothers him. Nothing. Nothing bothers any of these people. Sivana shows up and he's BIG MAD so he's creating another death ray and Captain Marvel shows up like "Oh you rascal! Time to punch this and go back to helping my friend eat his infinite Jello."

He has a friend named Talky Tawny, who is a talking tiger wearing a suit. He also has a friend named Sunny Smiles, a person of indeterminate gender who everybody falls in love with, for unexplained and unknown reasons. Not to be confused with Freddy's friend Gregory Gosharootie, the "World's Dullest Mortal", who is so boring that nobody notices him and he keeps accidentally comitting crime. There is also an old guy named Uncle Marvel who pretends he has superpowers, which they all find funny so they just roll with it. Freddy is a disabled orphan who has to sell papers on the street corner to make a living. Mary lives in a middle class suburban home with loving foster parents. It never once seems to occur to Mary's parents to adopt Billy, for Freddy to live with Billy. Everybody is happiest this way.

I do think this is partly why a good Shazam comic has to be aimed at the 6-12yo demographics. They have to be for small children, because Billy is living a complete and utter power fantasy that only a ten year old would think is a good idea. He's a kid, and he doesn't have drag parents or a lame family, but he can turn into Superman, and he can also do magic, and everybody loves him and thinks he's the nicest person, and his supervillains are Dr. Doofenschmirtz and a worm, and his supporting cast is like okay my sister if she HAS to be involved, but also my best friend who is a paperboy! but cool because he's disabled, and….

Look, you could engage with that seriously. You could go "holy shit this is a homeless child". That's fine. That's what they do these days, and that's what they did in the movies. Nothing wrong with that. Take the story more seriously.

But also they don't give a worm the electric chair in those stories, so.

To actually give some commentary on these comics: these comics really love people. I've never seen comics that were so entrenched in their community. The kids just know everybody they meet on the street. Freddy delivers paper up and down every block, so an average story for him is just talking to a butcher or baker or old man or grumpy housewife and helping them out with some batshit problem. Mary's a sweet girl who's always starting clubs with her friends and taking on neighborhood projects. Many Billy stories involve one of his many friends falling into some trouble and Captain Marvel helping them out - or just exploring some fun with Billy hanging out with Sunny Smiles, who is a person of indeterminate gender who for some reason has magic love brainwashing powers -

This isn't the biggest #Shazam take, but I think a good Shazam story stays grounded in that. These are poor street kids who love Fawcett City so damn much. They love fighting their supervillains, but they love helping out the random guy off the street with their problems even more. Way more so than Spider-Man or a lot of other guys, I think of the Marvel family as the friendly neighborhood superheroes. They're both larger than life and street level. They're Superman level powers but they just use the powers for wrapping up their hijinks. Isn't that nice? Aren't you tired of going apeshit? Don't you just want to be nice?

While the two have found similar adventures...

The paths they take differ.

For now, a rivalry has struck.

Both were initially in the quest to defeat the motherbrain, the knower of all and the eventual end to life. This quest was to stop the cults & bigoted agents... And it was looking hopeful for them as they found most of the Paradoxium shards already.

This was until Clyde discovered that his power was linked in one way or another to this dastardly fiend... He felt a need to overtake what he felt was a god, defeating them now is a need to gain the strengths from the unholy.

Budd (Also known as Gabe at this point) , sees his quest as a holy crusade... To vanquish evil from a world in need of a hero. But seeing his long beloved friend take a path into darkness has got his blood boiling hotter than before...

This inner rage has made him even more of a threat than before on both sides, the same can be said for Clyde's instability. Whether the two end up killing one another or that they team up in unlikely odds is unknown, but it is inevitable that both will get hurt.

The motherbrain has proved to manifest itself within the greed that the Cybernian Allegiance bestowed upon its worst leaders. Who knows what could happen to Arcania or the world itself if the forces in Cybernia were to corrupt its way into chaos?

Who knows what could happen if the two face against the worst of the worst?

But if the two were to leap beyond humanity, what tragedy would occur next...

Captain Kuro meets with a fortune teller to determine what the future holds for the feared Black Cat Pirates Captain. You happily oblige and with your crystal ball, you reveal Captain Kuro's future.

It was a dark stormy October night. And Captain Kuro, feared pirate captain of the ruthless Black Cat Pirates, was making his way towards a strange shop just outside the town.

Walking inside, he was greeted by the smell of burning incense and the sight of soft glowing candles. He passed by a wind-chime, making it tinkle and ring out. He entered through a beaded curtain and into a room where you sat by a clothed table, a large crystal ball in the center of it.

"Ah, Captain Kuro! I've been expecting your arrival. The high winds of the sea and the spirits told me of your ship and that it was heading for the town and that I was expecting a visit from the feared captain himself" You Spoke, without glancing up at the captain who stood there, raising a skeptical eyebrow at you and the words you spoke.

"Is that so?" Remarked Kuro with a smirk. You looked up and met his eyes.

"Do you doubt me, Captain Kuro?" You Asked in dreamy like voice, almost as if you were in a trance. Captain Kuro came closer to you and your table.

"I did not say I doubt you, Madame Y/N. Mistress of mystic and knower of all things dark and mysterious" Captain Kuro Replied as he took a seat across the table from you.

"I came here to see if what I've heard about you is true. That you, with that ball of yours can really see and tell of the future and see into the souls of all who enter your humble abode" Explained Kuro. You nod slowly.

"I indeed, can see into one's soul and tell of the future with my crystal ball. So you wish me to do a reading of you, Captain Kuro?" You Asked.

"Yes. Tell me what lies in my future plans Madame Y/N" Smirked Kuro.

"Very well. Give me your palm, the energy I draw from you will help me in the reading" You Replied and Kuro stretched his hand out to you, opening his hand.

You grabbed his hand and with one, delicate finger you traced a symbol of sorts into the palm of his hand and with that, you closed your eyes and murmured something in an unknown language before opening your eyes and letting go of Kuro's hand.

"We may begin" You Spoke.

Upon saying that, you moved your hands around the crystal ball and as you did so, the crystal ball began to glow brighter and brighter. Kuro watched, impressed.

When the crystal ball glowed a little more brighter, you leaned forward and peered into the ball. Kuro leaned in close, hoping to see what you must be seeing.

In your dreamy, trance like voice, you began to read into Kuro's soul and see what it is that lies in the future of Captain Kuro.

"You have grown tired as of late, of constantly being hunted by the Marines due to the life of piracy you choose. So weary have you grown of countless battles with Marines and bounty hunters alike that you have began to think up a storm. A storm in which will be your ultimate plan, a grand scheme. Already the cogs in your head are turning" You Explained softly.

Kuro's eyes widened and his heart stopped. You continued with the reading.

"You're plan will work. You will escape from the ever hunting Marines and you will be a free man" You Spoke softly.

"Beyond the sea, lies a village and I see you arriving there. You will be tired and without a home. But what is this? I see a family, of wealth take you in. There is a girl, young and naive. A tragedy will befall her, leaving you as her sole guardian" You Explained further, making Kuro look with confusion.

"But a darkness still resides in you and you will plot a terrible, terrible tragedy, involving the girl and should it succeed, you will live out the rest of your life, free and wealthy" You Stated and you saw a dark smile grace Kuro's lips.

"Marvelous! So, my plan will succeed" Kuro Smirked proudly and you felt a shiver go through you. Suddenly, there was more lights inside the crystal ball that caught your attention.

Leaning forward, you peered further into the ball and you murmured something. The lights grew bright at that and Kuro was intrigued.

"What is it? What do you see?" Demanded Kuro sternly. You looked up to meet Kuro's eyes and you spoke of what you saw within the crystal ball.

"But alas, I see a young man with a crew of his own who will arrive at the village and encounter the girl. A friendship is formed and your plans will be discovered and you will ultimately fail" You Stated.

Kuro's eyes narrowed at your statement.

"You lie" Hissed Kuro, his voice low.

"I do not. It is what the ball has shown me" You Replied.

A fog covered the ball and it stopped glowing. The reading was over.

"The vision is gone, our reading is over Captain" You Spoke.

Kuro stood up suddenly, throwing a bag of coins on the table and turning towards the door.

"Take heed of what I have said Captain" You Called. Kuro turned to you and snarled.

"No one interferes with my plans! No one! My plan will succeed, you'll see" Replied Kuro with a snarl and with that, he stormed off into the night.

You sat, a strange smile on your face.

"But you can't fight fate, for when it is written, it can not be undone" You Stated softly, as the wind howled outside.

More Thoughts on the Heir Class

I have made a couple of posts on the topic of the Heir class lately, mostly because as I was thinking about writing up and classifying most of the classes, with most of them I have a pretty clear grasp of at least the broader concepts, which literature archetypes they're based off, and how they relate and contrast to their opposing Class. This is best described by the pair I am most clear about, with the most canonical basis from which to draw from: Knight - Page + = SERVE (emphasized in several late- act 6 conversaions) Archetype: Batman and Robin, etc) Witch - Sylph + = MAKE (archetype: Occult advisor who exists on the outskirts of society. The Helpful Fairy, and the Witch (wicked, or Good) And with these I noticed a pattern. If my conclusion that the Sylph/Witch pairing was accurate, and had MAKE as their verb, the list would look like this Muse/Lord = MASTER Sylph/Witch = MAKE Bard/Prince = DESTROY Page/Knight = SERVE Rogue/Thief = STEAL Seer/Mage = KNOW Heir/Maid = ????? As you can see, each of these verbs has its own natural opposite. The opposite of to STEAL, to take, is to SERVE. The opposite of DESTROYing something, is to MAKE something. But the opposite of the word KNOW (which is said several times by Aradia in reference to Rose as the "knower of all fortune" and in Doc Scratch's conversation about Terezi's powers) is kind of the negation of it. What is the antonym of Known, Unknown right? But the negation of a thing- Not Destroying something is not the opposite of Destroying, in Homestuck. I know Two doesn't make a rule, but it seems too elegant to ignore. It would mean, instead of being 6 completely disparate dichotomies with no relation, it would be three sets of three. And then the Master classes, of course. So what the fuck is going on with the Heir and Maid then??? Of course, I have concluded they are a pair because their concepts are very close to each other. Both denote youth, both denote nobility and inheritance, (in the naming), and both have great shoes to fill and their Journey is about filling that role in their own way. They are also assisted by their Aspects. Jane is able to revive herself when she dies (Which Feferi is not shown as being able to do). John is assisted by The Breeze (which is clearly his powers working subconsciously to help him). I wonder, if Mage and Seer denote an idea of the Cerebral, then are Heir and Maid associated with the BODY, as in EMBODY? Whichever verb I have thought up, so far. "INHERIT", "EMBODY", "BECOME". There is clearly a linking theme between all of them. But each has their own subtle specificities. But they Might, on some level, boil down as "To Know vs To Be". I am not sure, at this time. But some things I've found notable are in terms of how Physically Becoming their aspect is linked to all. Aradia is "Maid of Time" (the Made of Time pun comes in a lot). Jane, aforementioned with the Lifey thing assisting her. John physically turning in to Wind. Equius though, if this is the case, is interesting. As we all know, His blood is used to Void out text. In the text, symbolically. His blood specifically.

This has been touched on a lot, when talking about Void's link to obscurity. But it's just occurred to me, that we never see Horuss's blood being used in this way. Or Roxy's. (I know it would be a little morbid in terms of using Roxy's blood, but the variables are to be touched upon to find the distinction).

Only Equius's. Only the Heir of Void's. On that note, too, he specifically has that Extreme Physical Strength thing going on. (Which John's father also mentions John should strive for too. Picking up his safe being a test of Manhood?) I have not looked over the Dancestors bit again yet, but I'm pretty sure Horuss isn't as freakishly strong or has that going on like Equius does. Their Heir though, I cannot say, only that he suffered a mental injury. I wonder if that is supposed to parallel Sollux suffering a physical injury, but keeping his mind? I cannot say. And I do not want to get too far off the track and make conclusions before I have more supplementary evidence. However, on a final note. One thing I did find. Is perhaps a strange connection between Heirs and Servitude? We know Maids can be a bit rebellious. But one thing I paid close attention to, with all the Ancestor talk, was linked to the idea that Doc Scratch not only engineered the Blood Castes to encourage Aspecty behaviour, but also Class(y) behaviour. Not much is said about Executioner Darkleer, except for this. He may have been the ONLY one of his Caste, to ever Rise Up against an order from The Highbloods.

Whilst Mindfang is musing here, it's clear that rebellion in this Caste is rare. So much so, that it's explicitly mentioned. As a clear foil to Equius's death when he Couldn't stand up to Gamzee. (Which may also tie in) Executioner Darkleer in reality, is a Page of Void. But when we look at the true Heir in this position...

He too, would be expected to life a life of Servitude. In the end, he did. Though it's important to note with Goldbloods, the expectations and influence of Mages would be prevalent castewide. In the same way Maids manage their aspect, are Heirs managed by? What does this mean exactly, in regards to their Personal Journey? I still do not have much of an idea. But if I do, I will make an official post on the matter. One final final thing I noticed though, about the Signless's main group of 4.... It's made up of a Seer, a Mage, a Maid, and an Heir.

If I'm on the right track in assuming those classes form a quartet in terms of Active/Passive and Opposite Verbs... I should pay close attention to how all their paths differ from each other, and are similar.

~ Really, what we all want is peace of mind, and we err when we look to find any peace in a mind that's binary (thinks in opposites, in comparing/contrasting, either/or, good/bad) and is therefore always conflicted. Fortunately, our nature is peace. In loving awareness which we are, the mind's activities are lovingly, non-judgmentally, openly watched. We simply remain as a spectator, enjoying watching the mind, being in the game but not of it.

We rest in this aware, undisturbed being, as the 'weather' that's experienced by the body/mind comes and goes. We remain here, alertly watching. And fully loving all of our Self, as it happens here and now. Sans interest, sans maintenance, Mind settles, conflicts no longer fed by fears, fade away.. occasional angst appears; it is welcomed, seen, accepted and let go, sometimes in a few hours, but more often, immediately. We drop the negatives like hot coal. We simply move on; we watch, enjoy and share what we are in every-day aware living.

AWARENESS, LIKE PEACE, DOES NOT COME OR GO.

Even after flashes of awakening, the ego/mind almost always continues to create residual confusions with its believed ideas about reality. It helps to realize that awareness is not an experience which comes and goes. For the supposed 'me', it was essential to direct all inquiry inside to WHO...WHO IS THE 'I' that lives and breathes; who or what is the knower of all this body/mind activity? Turns out there is no knower and nothing known - only a subtle Knowing. There's an obvious knowing that 'I' am not the body, 'I' am not the mind. That knowing abides. It simply, immediately, thoughtlessly, impersonally and always, remains. That which we call 'awareness' is not a personal sensation, vibration or experience. This awareness cannot be described and known, yet it is.

Only Awareness is aware of itself. We are that light - that knowing, of all things, events and experiences. To see that in our Self, all we need 'do' is stop all - ALL - doing. Nirvana means "total cessation" Let everything be exactly as it is, here/now.. no more questions asked, no more feelings explored. We drop them all unconditionally. Indeed, if that 'happens' (it is not our doing, it is grace) we discover - we uncover - that we are already awake; there's a direct seeing of the seer and the fact that the source, the light that illuminates our infinite knowing and being, is what we are and this is.

We are that which is even now, simply aware of these words, of the breath, the pulse, the dynamic hum and buzz of this alert aliveness, here/now. We are pure living spirit - the whole Self of the universe, and beyond..in truth, we are transported from knowing to unknowing, beyond being and becoming, beyond time and space. We are that unknown, that great alert intelligence, and we rest infinitely in the natural peace, beauty and joy of being unknown. In silence and stillness. In love, so to speak.

I am going to include a writing fragment below because of course I am (: Under the cut for formatting kindness.

15. Do they consort with Daedra?

Why yes, yes he does. Not for the usual Dunmer cultural reasons, either -- he's the Nerevarine. (It's in the fic tags so it's not really a spoiler!) He is Azura's champion, meant to be the downfall of the Tribunal. And how he was. These days, sometimes she sends him odd dreams that are more or less out of context but hasn't truly spoken to him in some time as she had back in the 3rd era.

There have been other encounters with other Daedra. He's been annoyed by Hircine once or twice. It wouldn't surprise him if he'd crossed paths with Sanguine on one of his benders. He's almost positive he came dangerously close to making a bad deal with Vile. He's probably currently spun into some web or another with Mephala, because who isn't? There'd been nightmares, too. Plenty of those seemed influenced by Vaermina herself. Though there's no concrete proof of either of those. And Hermaeus Mora...hmm. He's met him once or twice, and that one likely isn't done with him -- or Nyenna for that matter.

A fragment from a future chapter 43 for you, then -- not final (:

“Hmm… come, bask in my presence,” the abyss said. Nyenna’s throat felt like it was closing and she did not move an inch.

“What are you?” she asked, voice strained with fear. “What do you want with us?”

“What am I, hmm? Not what, who. Who am I, hmm? I am Hermaeus Mora. I am the guardian of the unseen, and knower of the unknown. I have been watching you, mortal. Most impressive,” the thing said. “Your generosity has rendered my previous servant…hmm…useless. He has been…destroyed. I will require…hmm…another champion. When the time comes, you will take his place.”

Nyenna heard the rage of her dragon screaming inside her skull, even through her tears and her terror. She knew the tales of the Daedric Princes and the destruction they wrought over the ages. This thing had deceived even Septimus Signus, though he had previously admitted to being damaged by the Elder Scrolls. Perhaps he had not been in his right mind, and this beast took advantage, only making his condition worse. She was not weakened. She would not be used.

“I will have nothing to do with the likes of you,” she spat with disgust, though she was still crying. Teldryn’s breath caught as he looked with wide eyes between her and Hermaeus Mora.

There was a wet screaming sound, like the death throes of a mutilated, mutated creature as the squid-like eye of the Daedric Prince moved not inches from her face, anger visible somehow around it in its ink. She heard the sound of tentacles writhing and felt bile creep up her throat. Icy dread gripped her and she could barely breathe. She couldn’t look away as the eye bore down on her. In her peripheral vision, more eyes than she could count focused on her from all angles. She began to tremble. Teldryn held on to her more tightly.

“Who do you think put these events into motion, hmm? Who guided the addled one here? Whose information…hmm…brought you back safely to open this box and loose my knowledge on this…hmm…world? Not your Aedra, no. Not your…hmm…dragon-soul. Me,” the thing said. He let the declaration hang there in the air between them.

“I came here on my own to finish my quest,” Nyenna said, resolve faltering. Her voice felt small as she tried to speak, smaller than it had felt for some time now. “I… It has nothing to do with…with you.”

“Foolish girl. Your free will is an illusion,” the abyss spat, voice venomous. “Whether you acknowledge me or not is your own business. But I…hmm…I am in your mind. You cannot escape me. You never will.”

Nyenna’s rage had cooled as quickly as it had burned and she was sobbing again, reminded of the terror of her dream world. Of the inky darkness and the monsters held within. Was her nightmare given to her by this abomination? Had she walked his realm in her sleep? 

“He who has been…hmm…lost to you, girl, is…hmm…alive, by the way. Though by all accounts, the world would be…hmm…better off if this was not true,” Hermaeus Mora hissed. He let out a low, evil sounding laugh.

“Who is?” Nyenna asked, unthinking. Her heart seized in her chest. Lost to her, specifically? Her voice croaked as she said his name. “Eris?”

There was no way. She had watched him die. She had seen the light of his soul leave his eyes. She tried to close her eyes as they filled with tears but found she could not. The tears blurred her vision.

“You are mine, Dragonborn. And you will…hmm…seek me for this answer. I await the day you…hmm…give in,” the abyss said, the room once again filling with his low, slimy cackle. The eye slid its focus off of her for the barest of seconds, glancing at Teldryn, who had frozen in place next to her. The eye narrowed as the water-logged laugh quieted. When it returned its focus to Nyenna, the giant squid eye blinked just once more before the writhing, inky mass collapsed in on itself, leaving no trace behind.

16. Did they feel sympathy for any villains they came into contact with? If so, who and why?

Teldryn definitely holds a more survival focused approach to defeating enemies. In the moment, it's usually incredibly difficult to find the time for things like sympathy or mercy -- usually it comes down to a fight to the death, especially when one side is a legendary hero. There's also the question of what constitutes a villain? Simply a person on the wrong side of an equation? He had no sympathy whatever for someone like Dagoth-Ur, not after all the chaos caused to his people. There might have been a glimmer of regret, perhaps an echo from something in a past life if those things are to be believed. But the only way forward for his people at the time, was to end him and to stop the blight.

Dagoth-Ur was...a symptom of a deeper problem. A different betrayal. But did that betrayal from thousands of years ago translate to villainy specifically? It's not like there wasn't a semblance of peace for Morrowind for a time -- but of course there's so, so much that can be peeled back about that (and I did not go into it for World, and I did not write a Morrowind fic.) Suffice to say, there were evils underneath the surface, even under the best of intentions. That said, Teldryn isn't sure why, exactly, but he let Vivec go. Yes, the one who held Baar Dau over the city as a reminder of his power. As a threat. Who, upon losing his power, could be the reason Morrowind is in such a state in the 4th era because of this decision. He was a villain. This facet was villainous. Was it sympathy to spare him even after that or a different kind of defeat? Still not sure. Teldryn had destroyed Vivec's connection to divinity and death would come for him eventually. It just didn't have to be by his hand.

19. Do they have any family?

Once, a long time ago, at this point beyond his earliest memories, he did have parents, back when he lived in the Imperial City. He was a young child when they died and he was shipped off to Morrowind, a place he'd never seen. There had been an uncle he was to stay with according to his papers, but he never made it that far. He ran away as soon as he got off the ship. Nobody followed him. Nobody rescued him. He grew up on his own and stayed without a family for literally centuries.

These days, at least in the flash-forward chapters of my fic, he is in the process of having a family, we'll say. He's not married, but he and Nyenna are about to be parents regardless. Until now, he had friends who filled the empty places where a family might have been. Things change, even if it takes centuries, though. (:

A Phenomenology of Attention and the Unfamiliar: Encounters with the Unknown (Antony Fredriksson, 2022)

The body and its hidden processes become uncannily present for me from a first-person perspective.

This amounts to a sensation of overwhelming restlessness, a palpable discomfort with being within one’s own skin. (…)

In more peaceful moments the body works as a backdrop for a plurality of experiences and the world is present and open, while the body itself announces itself only tacitly.

This double feature—the body as knower and the body as known—is the motor of an ongoing process that conditions our experience.

She is the most-married English queen

First marriage (1529–1533) Sir Edward Burgh (knight). In 1529, when she was seventeen, Catherine married Sir Edward Burgh. Catherine's first husband was in his twenties and may have been in poor health. 2nd marriage -Lady Latimer (1534–1543) John Neville, 3rd Baron Latimer John Neville, 3rd Baron Latimer (17 November 1493 – 2 March 1543) was an English peer. His third wife was Catherine Parr, later queen of England. John Neville, born 17 November 1493, was the eldest son of Richard Neville, 2nd Baron Latimer.  He had five brothers and six sisters. Neville married firstly, by 1520, Dorothy (d. 7 February 1527), daughter of Sir George de Vere by Margaret Stafford, and sister of John de Vere, 14th Earl of Oxford, by whom he had a son and a daughter. He died 2 March 1543 in London, and was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral.

3rd mariage with Henry VIII of England ​ ​ (1543-1547)​

Katherine Parr and Henry VIII met when she secured a position in Princess Mary's household in late 1542.

Katherine was, by most accounts, vivacious, attractive and a scholar. She was also 30 years old, a mature contrast to Catherine Howard, and a more sensible choice for an ailing King in need of a nurse as much as a wife.

WHY DID HENRY MARRY KATHERINE?

By 1543, Katherine had already been married (and widowed) twice but was in love with Thomas Seymour. She gave him up to marry the King.

This was as much a sign of her pious adherence to what she saw as God’s will as – perhaps – a practical acceptance that Henry wouldn’t last forever.

Katherine married Henry on 12 July 1543 at Hampton Court Palace.

A keen patron of the arts, Katherine was the first English queen to write and publish her own books.

STABILITY AND UNITY

Katherine was a loving stepmother to Henry's three children and brought unity to the family.

Princess Elizabeth was particularly fond of her stepmother and Katherine took custody of the 14-year-old Elizabeth after Henry's death.

DANGEROUS BELIEFS

The Queen was a vigorous supporter of the English Reformation.

She sometimes pushed her evangelical views too far with Henry when discussing religion.

Katherine's religious opponents plotted against her and tried to persuade the King that she could be dangerous.

Plans were also drawn up for her arrest.

Katherine was warned of the danger she faced and had the sense to throw herself on Henry’s mercy and plead for forgiveness. 

Henry was completely disarmed, and forgave her.

THE DEATH OF THE KING

Henry died on 28 January 1547 at the age of 55 after a period of serious illness.

Katherine remained loyal and devoted to Henry throughout their five years of marriage until his death.

She was then free to marry her sweetheart Thomas Seymour a few months later. Soon she was delighted to be pregnant.

Young Elizabeth and the Seymour scandal

How did Thomas Seymour's advances lead to charges of treason against him and the young Elizabeth?

After Henry VIII’s death in 1547, Elizabeth went to live with her stepmother, Katherine Parr, leading to a near-disaster. 

In 1547, Katherine Parr, Elizabeth's stepmother, married Thomas Seymour, the Lord Admiral and King Edward's younger Seymour uncle. Thomas was vain, handsome, ambitious and extremely jealous of his elder brother's power as Lord Protector to the young king.

The Seymour scandal

Thomas’s marriage to Katherine brought him into close contact with Elizabeth who was blossoming into an attractive young woman. He began making advances towards the princess and the ensuing scandal thrust Elizabeth abruptly into the harsh adult world.

Accused of treason

When Katherine died in 1548, shortly after giving birth, Seymour decided he could further his political ambitions by marrying Elizabeth and seizing control of the King. He was arrested in January 1549 and executed for treason by his brother, the Lord Protector, in March 1549.

Elizabeth was interrogated about her part in the plans but skillfully denied the charges of treason and was eventually exonerated.

Elizabeth's self-possession helped her survive the scandal and she demonstrated a remarkable maturity for a 15-year-old. The very public nature of the scandal made her acutely aware of the importance of protecting her sexual reputation. This brush with the accusation of treason was not to be her last.

Death of Catherine Parr-A tragic end

In 1548, Katherine gave birth to a daughter, Mary, but tragically this was the beginning of the end for the queen. Katherine contracted puerperal fever just three days later – an infection which was the reason behind many childbirth-related deaths in the Tudor era. Despite being known for outliving Henry VIII, on the seventh day of her daughter’s life, Katherine Parr died, aged just 36. on 5 September 1548.

The mystery of Mary

Despite being married four times, Mary was Katherine’s only child. Thomas was beheaded for treason less than a year after his wife’s death, leaving the couple’s only child an orphan. However, there are few records explaining what happened to Princess Mary. She never inherited Sudeley and all records of her cease to exist after 1550 – it is therefore believed by many that she died in infancy.
