I will be forever grateful i can be on this new med. it's one a lot of folks also need and can struggle to have access to! It's important i be on it, especially if i start doing any vid collabs
(some of which, really, all of which, i unfortunately actually need to cancel that were in the preplanning stages, bc the election results have me wanting to wait and see how the general atmosphere of the country is before i agree to meet up with anyone. I feel bad for cancelling, but also i just can't know for sure how safe things are/might be going forward and I'd rather avoid the potential of. ya know. various not great things that could happen at a meet up, tho i would certainly hope they wouldn't. i don't feel like actually addressing them rn, u guys know what i mean)
That said, if the truvada initial side effects could fuck off asap would be so lovely. three weeks at worst, then they should be gone/much better or so i am told. really hope that's true bc losing my mornings to being dizzy and nauseous is Not Working for me lmao. im on week two, and now understand why my new doc said to call if i needed any 'cheerleading' and support to get thru the side effects, bc apparently she's done that for several ppl to make sure they actually make it thru the three weeks and keep on it (lovely of her!!)
#text post#not going to get into the other painful smack of this morning#suffice to say that medicaid does not in fact fully cover vocal therapy/training for trans ppl#even if ur docs feel incredibly certain it is#if i was making a decent bit over minimum wage at consistent hours and already had my current debts paid off mostly#then I'd happily consider paying the chunk Medicaid won't cover but as of now#it would literally be basically two paychecks if not three to cover the estimate for this first visit#and that's only if the poll would have us polling every week like we did before the election#otherwise we're guesstimating it would be upwards of 4 paychecks to cover it#I'm actually gonna get into in here bc nobody reads all my tag essays (fair valid and correct)#im really sad abt this. my voice gets me clocked a lot and while i can mostly handle like. visually being clocked#my voice giving me away genuinely makes me feel a pain in my chest. i can't get my customer service voice to go lower yet#and even if it's my usual voice I've made minimal progress on my own self done vocal study stuff#so like. no one knows how high it was compared to how it is now tho so no one actually hears it as anything near deep#which it isn't but like. there's been a slightly barely there drop of it per at least a couple ppl in my life#i was probably going to be able to learn how to sing again and find my new range. I'd fix my customer service voice#even if it would only ever be a teeny bit lower than how it is now. it would be lovely#im not gonna get too down tho bc someday hopefully I'll be able to make it happen/afford it#and for now...im doing the bad thing of not cancelling the appt yet#i will bc they're booking out for months and it isn't right of me to take a spot i know i can't keep#but. let me pretend i can for another day or two. maybe until monday. then I'll call or msg them on mychart#and let them know i just don't have the funds rn tho i do deeply appreciate that Medicaid at least pays part of it#im just not at a point where i can cover the rest but that I'll reschedule/have a new referral sent whenever that changes#...and hopefully things in this country will be of such a state that such care is still available to ppl like me.#but that's all we're saying on that bc im already having a pathetic little cry over this#(im fine the med side effects have me crying over everything lol i see a sad commercial and Instant Tears like someone died lmaooo)

As well as the voice work for which he's probably best known, David Graham also made fairly regular onscreen performances in all manner of old TV, particularly in the first half of his career.
Also, a lesser known role of his - and one seen by millions of people - was as the face (and voice, of course) of Big Brother in Apple Macintosh's iconic 1984 advertisement;
#david graham#rip#the saint#the avengers#doctor who#crossroads to crime#1984#that ad is a part of pop culture history; I'm guessing a fair amount of tumblr's userbase is too young to know about it‚ hell i wasn't born#in 1984‚ but the ripples of that ad were still being felt when i was young. not perhaps the first major Event ad (I'd Like to Buy the#World a Coke predates it by more than a decade) but this was still unproven ground in terms of scope (the budget was nearly a million#dollars‚ it was directed by Ridley damn Scott‚ it was a one minute ad during Superbowl xviii‚ the most expensive commercial airtime#available) and in presentation (the high concept; the fact that the ad was shown nationally just once and never repeated‚ adding to its#mystique). there's some debate about exactly how much it cost‚ actually‚ but that money wasn't being seen by the actors involved#(Graham probably made $25 a day for his work on one of the most famous commercials of all time)#variously considered a groundbreaking move towards highbrow advertising or the most soulless‚ faux intellectual example of insidious#capitalism in action; regardless it was a Real Moment and i doubt many people realise David was the face of it

The autistic urge to identify and comment every song that isnt properly credited in a tiktok just in case someone wats to listen to the whole thing instead of like 15 seconds of it
#stifled only by not knowing whether said song is niche enough to warrant this behavior#like. ill assume people know about mockingbird by eminem but who is she by i monster? do people know i monster?#one of their songs played over the credits on an episode of severance as well as an h&m commercial just recently but#do people Know i monster?#how well do people generally know Gorillaz? the broader public is definitely aware of some of their music but O Green World?#i know it was a trend but is it Known as a Song or known as Sounds?#also Cudi. a clip from Day N Nite was a trend for a while there. did people listen to the song after finding it? is the info available?#i think people are generally familiar with Pursuit of Happiness and Soundtrack 2 My Life but do they know Ashin Kusher?#would they like to?#these are the questions that bug me as a deeper fan of semi-obscure artists.#like. obviously people know (some of) the artists but would they be able to connect the snippets of music with those artists?#the whole structure of tiktok audio culture messes with my head in a way im having trouble describing#even here in the tags where my thought faculties live#i think its something i get from my dad. the need to share music and Know what song is playing#sprinkle in a little musical trivia and we got ourselves an autism or two

do you know where i can find the music/lyrics of curious and curiouser and through the looking glass? i love the graphic you made all the links between the lyrics and the show this is insane to me it fits so well but i can’t seem to find the songs
hope you enjoy today’s ep!! literally buzzing
You Can’t. hdgsjk sorry i’m being an unhinged crazy person about an iteration of a musical that ran for a few months in houston in 2010 and then got significantly reworked for broadway in 2011; the only extant record of the 2010 production is a couple of crunchy bootleg audios 😔
Wonderland | Houston | 01.20.10 | Opening Night
Wonderland | Houston | 02.03.10
#there’s like just enough similarity that i’m losing my entire mind#there IS a demo recording from this era of the show but it doesn’t have any of the reprises or transitional songs#and i don’t know if it’s still commercially available

I was kinda considering a Night Flight subscription for the convenience of having a curated pile of 80s new wave music content and b movies to dig through but actually they’re the ones who published my favorite article about a guy recalling working at a record store in a mall in the early 80s and they took it down so NEVER MIND I’m mad at them
#yes I know I can find a lot of this kind of thing for free but I have 0 free time to dig for it#they’ve got night flight episodes with commercials available to stream that’s fun

the christmas cards we ordered for people didn't arrive in time so instead we're doing this the old fashioned way with hand written letters and wax seals
#personal#thoughts#🍬 post#sitting next to a candle and writing out the little letters felt really cosy#anyway did you know that it used to be customary to send christmas and new year's letters to people#but then in 1843 Sir Henry Cole commissioned 1000 christmas cards then sent some to people before selling the rest#which means those were the first commercially available christmas cards#(there had been at least one christmas card sent prior to this in 1611 but it seems to have been a one-off thing)#so yeah that's your history lesson for the night

I think a lot of the disagreements regarding how acceptable it is to be public about media piracy channels boil down to different experiences based on what exactly you're trying to pirate.
Some folks are like "it doesn't matter whether you publicly discuss piracy sites because the publishers 100% already know about them, and if they get taken down an identical replacement will be up and running a week later", and sure, that's absolutely true – if the media you're interested in pirating is relatively mainstream.
On the flip side, if the shit you want to torrent lives at the intersection between "of interest only to a limited audience" and "currently owned by a notably litigious publisher that isn't an all-knowing global megacorp" – and this is where a great deal of fringe media lives – greater caution may be warranted, because there's no guarantee when, or even if, a given piece of media will become available again when wherever it's currently on offer eats a takedown notice.
That's kind of the paradox of trying to preserve and distribute media which appeals only to a limited audience. On the one hand, obviously an archive or repository that nobody knows about doesn't do anyone any good; on the other hand, if a given piece of media has only ever been made publicly available outside of commercial venues via one particular channel, and that channel gets overpublicised and subsequently taken down, it's often far from clear whether anyone will be willing and able to fill the void.

Andrew Gold - Spooky, Scary Skeletons 1996
Andrew Maurice Gold was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and record producer who influenced much of the Los Angeles-dominated pop/soft rock sound in the 1970s. Gold performed on scores of records by other artists, especially Linda Ronstadt, and had his own success with the US top 40 hits "Lonely Boy" (1977) and "Thank You for Being a Friend" (1978) (which was later used as the opening theme for The Golden Girls), as well as the UK top five hit "Never Let Her Slip Away" (1978). In the 1980s, he had further international chart success as one half of the new wave duo Wax. During the 1990s, Gold produced, composed, performed on and wrote tracks for films, commercials, and television soundtracks.
"Spooky, Scary Skeletons" is a Halloween song, first released on Gold's 1996 album Halloween Howls: Fun & Scary Music. It was one of nine original songs on the album, released to fill a void of availability of fun and scary Halloween original songs according to Gold on his 1996 liner notes. He produced, mixed, sang and played all the instruments on the track. It prominently features a xylophone to represent the sound of skeletal bones rattling.
In 1998, Disney included the song on their VHS tape Disney's Sing-Along Songs: Happy Haunting: Party at Disneyland! (which was released on DVD as Disney's Sing-Along Songs: Happy Haunting in 2006). They paired the song with the 1929 animated short film The Skeleton Dance by Ub Iwerks. The video has garnered over 31 million views since it was recreated and uploaded by a Youtube user. On October 31, 2013, the Youtube band The Living Tombstone created an electronic dance-like remix of the song with a faster tempo than the original. Their upload of the remix to YouTube has garnered over 102 million views. By 2022, there were over 5 million TikTok videos featuring the song. “Spooky, Scary Skeletons” was adapted into a children's picture book by Random House Children's Books featuring the lyrics to the song on August 27, 2024.
"Spooky, Scary Skeletons" received a total of 90% yes votes!

"A team of researchers at Washington University in St. Louis has developed a real-time air monitor that can detect any of the SARS-CoV-2 virus variants that are present in a room in about 5 minutes.
The proof-of-concept device was created by researchers from the McKelvey School of Engineering and the School of Medicine at Washington University...
The results are contained in a July 10 publication in Nature Communications that provides details about how the technology works.
The device holds promise as a breakthrough that - when commercially available - could be used in hospitals and health care facilities, schools, congregate living quarters, and other public places to help detect not only the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but other respiratory virus aerosol such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as well.
“There is nothing at the moment that tells us how safe a room is,” Cirrito said, in the university’s news release. “If you are in a room with 100 people, you don’t want to find out five days later whether you could be sick or not. The idea with this device is that you can know essentially in real time, or every 5 minutes, if there is a live virus in the air.”
How It Works
The team combined expertise in biosensing with knowhow in designing instruments that measure the toxicity of air. The resulting device is an air sampler that operates based on what’s called “wet cyclone technology.” Air is sucked into the sampler at very high speeds and is then mixed centrifugally with a fluid containing a nanobody that recognizes the spike protein from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. That fluid, which lines the walls of the sampler, creates a surface vortex that traps the virus aerosols. The wet cyclone sampler has a pump that collects the fluid and sends it to the biosensor for detection of the virus using electrochemistry.
The success of the instrument is linked to the extremely high velocity it generates - the monitor has a flow rate of about 1,000 liters per minute - allowing it to sample a much larger volume of air over a 5-minute collection period than what is possible with currently available commercial samplers. It’s also compact - about one foot wide and 10 inches tall - and lights up when a virus is detected, alerting users to increase airflow or circulation in the room.
Testing the Monitor
To test the monitor, the team placed it in the apartments of two Covid-positive patients. The real-time air samples from the bedrooms were then compared with air samples collected from a virus-free control room. The device detected the RNA of the virus in the air samples from the bedrooms but did not detect any in the control air samples.
In laboratory experiments that aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 into a room-sized chamber, the wet cyclone and biosensor were able to detect varying levels of airborne virus concentrations after only a few minutes of sampling, according to the study.
“We are starting with SARS-CoV-2, but there are plans to also measure influenza, RSV, rhinovirus and other top pathogens that routinely infect people,” Cirrito said. “In a hospital setting, the monitor could be used to measure for staph or strep, which cause all kinds of complications for patients. This could really have a major impact on people’s health.”
The Washington University team is now working to commercialize the air quality monitor."

Holy shit. I know it's still early in the technology and more testing will inevitably be needed but holy shit.
Literally, if it bears out, this could revolutionize medicine. And maybe let immunocompromised people fucking go places again
Also, for those who don't know, Nature Communications is a very prestigious scientific journal that focuses on Pretty Big Deal research. Their review process is incredibly rigorous. This is an absolutely HUGE credibility boost to this research and prototype

SPECIAL THANKS
First and foremost I want to thank my good good friend @cowboycid for collaborating with me on this project. I'm so happy we met when we did because I was starting to lose light. You inspired me to keep going, and for that I appreciate you DOWN. You're a real one sis, no tea. Hugs and kisses for ever. I also want to thank @bobnewbie for coming through with families. You don't understand just how life saving they were. I didn't get a chance to use all of them, and my original concept for the save fell through due to time constraints, but I'm thankful to have had access to the diverse array of families you made for the save. A huge thank you to @oshinsimss for taking the time to create a beautiful family, The Westfalls, exclusively for Windbrook 2.0, I love them so much. Also a big thank you to @cowplant-snacks and @simsontherope for their townies. Without them, the townies would just be... ugh, you know. So, thank you for having them available on the gallery. I also want to thank @anthonydaydreamer for just showing up for me through this whole process. Like, you just get it boo! Hugs and kisses! Finally a quick apology to those I intended on sending preview copies of the save. Time was not on my side near the end, things took more time than I thought. Honestly, I needed to get this project off my computer ASAP. I really hope you guys understand. Big hugs and kisses. Thank you everyone for all the kind words and support over these past few months, your words kept me going, even if I didn't feel I had anymore left to give. This save is a love letter to you all, the simblr community.

The AI art thing is a complicated and multifaceted thing and I am not fully on either side. #libra
#ethical#delete later skater#cause like#its here to stay. you cant get rid of it even if you tried#and it Is a form of art??? like it gets into a vaguely philosophically gray area but like. it is art#even if it technically doesn't take that much time to make. it is art#and like. i dont want to be boring but i feel regulations are sort of they key to making ai art#designating certain databases as available for commercial use vs personal use. etc etc. sourcing images within the databases more ethically#im not in tech but like. boring beaurocratic shit is the way to go yk#and like. okay so i know that like. its different kr whatever#but like#no one got this mad over ai generated text?#which like. i suppose its because its taking from so many fields and not just creative writing shit#but it still theoretically takes from those sources yk#sorry for thinking theres genuine artistic merit in ai art. my one flaw
