16. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother's Milk

Love LOve LOVE THIS ALBUM.

First album with Mr.John Frusciante joining the line-up.

Good Time Boys, Magic Johnson (that GUITAR RIFF), Salute To Kareem and Knock Me Down (This song is obviously challenging for Anthony but I thought the way he sings fit the track) were GREAT songs.

Honorable mention : Higher Ground ! I've heard that song SO MANY TIMES throughout my life (along with Knock Me Down), when I tell you my mouth dropped the day I learned this was a chili peppers song. I LOVE IT.

Best songs on the album for me were Taste The Pain (the bass line, the drums, the guitar, the lyrics, it's all too good. From beginning to end this song is so good.), Nobody Weird Like Me (holy fucking shit the bassline is the sickest thing I've ever heard. And the transition at 2:58. What the fuck.) and Pretty Little Ditty. This song is really pretty, and it feels like something special happened when they jammed you know what I mean? Also that song has been used as a sample for Crazy Town's Butterfly which is fucking crazy. To think that John wrote this at like 18 and it created that band's biggest hit and still went on to do even better shit. Add Flea's trumpet and it really seals the song. This track really feels like the beginning of something new you know.

Best song on the album for me is Johnny Kick a Hole in The Sky. The bassline is incredible. The chorus. The energy !! This song is both exhausting and energizing. This was so great. I love random screeching and shit too. There's something so liberating about this kinda music, like I'm at work all day, struggling with social cues and noises and I go home to listen to shit like that because it feels like the music will take care of that extra overload for me.

This album is tasty funky madness. It's pain wrapped around a lot of fun and amazing basslines and the need to keep going and celebrate the little things and let loose and experiment and be and do what you want.

That was a great album. I love the Red Hots.

Music videos-D-rock

So this week i decided to change the topic slightly (but still relative) to music videos. A music video can make a song. Through story telling or just plane batshit crazy stuff (high voltage-electric six) a music video can make a song what it is.

so here are some of my top music videos (i was going with 5 but i like so many!!)

Slipknot duality

Directed by Tony Petrossian, was produced at a cost between $300,000 and $500,000 and was recorded on March 27, 2004. It was shot on location at a fan's house in

Des Moines, Iowa which was due for renovation, the aftermath of which resulted in the family asking the band to replace an extensive list of objects and fittings which were damaged or destroyed during the video shoot.i mean they fucked the house royally. watch the video and you will see what i mean. what makes this video so good is that the fan and his family had no idea what they were going to do to it!! They came back a couple of days later and saw the aftermath of what was slipknot. fucking brilliant if you ask me. A dick move but hilarious.

Linkin Park-one step closer

The actual video was directed by Gregory Dark and shot in Los Angeles, sixty-three feet underground in an abandoned LA Subway tunnel, that is adjacent to an abandoned V.A. hospital. The video starts out with a group of teenage friends hanging out around a dark alley. Two of them (the male is played by local LA artist Tony Acosta who goes by the moniker "TonyMech") follow a strange man wearing a black hooded robe into a door which leads them to a dark, misty room where the band is playing.

Monk-like men are performing martial arts moves throughout the video. Midway through the song, they knock over a crate, drawing the attention of the monk-like men, causing them to flee the tunnel. Eventually the strange man appears at the end of the video. While Bennington screams the songs bridge, he is also upside-down as if gravity is inverted for him. Linking park are renowned for doing out there videos and other than “in the end” this one is probably the most well renowned. it was quirky and innovative. The visuals, lighting and effects gave the song a heavier meaning which made it memorable and a reason to be on the list.

Michael Jackson's Thriller

is a 14-minute horror-themed music video. i’m pretty sure anyone reading this would have seen this short film of a music video. one of the ultimate story telling videos. Between the dancing and make up and iconic clothing it is often classified as the best music video ever created. I don’t really need to justify it as its fucking class!!

Stan-Eminem

 is a song by American rapper Eminem featuring British singer Dido. It was released on December 9, 2000 as the third single from Eminem's third album The Marshall Mathers LP (great album) Eminem was renowned for story telling through his lyrics and the video just emphasised the passion of the words through its sometimes hard to watch visuals.The song tells the story of a person named Stanley "Stan" Mitchell who claims to be the biggest fan of Eminem. Stan writes a series of letters to Eminem; with each verse he becomes gradually more obsessed with him, and when there is no reply he becomes progressively angrier. He finally creates a voice recording of himself driving his car into a lake, with his pregnant girlfriend in the trunk.

"Stan" is perhaps Eminem's most critically acclaimed song, after "Lose Yourself", and has been called a "cultural milestone", referred to as "Eminem's best song”the video is disturbingly haunting in the sense of really grasping the aspect of obsession to its full potential. Hands down probably my favourite video of all time. Not song but defiantly favourite video.

red hot chilli peppers Californication  

rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers was a completely different style of filming and really effective hense it makes my list.

The video, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, takes the form of a fictional 3D video game from the third person point of view of each of the band members, all on some sort of adventure; this varies with each band member. it is an animated journey of adventure with the band to a song thats relatively dull. Meaning the video actually makes the song. for this reason it makes my list.
