Blockers
Directed by: Kay Cannon
Starring: Leslie Mann, John Cena, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Newton, Geraldine Viswanathan, Gideon Adlon
What’s it about?
A group of parents find out their daughters have made a pact to lose their virginity on prom night, and set about doing everything in their power to stop them.
What’s good about it?
A pretty decent comedic turn from Cena as overprotective father Mitchell, as well as comedy stalwarts Mann and Barinholtz.
Really liked Viswanathan’s turn as Mitchell’s daughter Kayla and Adlon as Sam.
A refreshing twist on the typical sex comedy romp.
What’s shit about it?
As the movie progresses the plot seems to unravel, becoming increasingly coarse without any real justification or real connection to the story.
Overall
Perfectly watchable with some standout performances and some genuine laugh-out-loud moments - nowt special but there are definitely a lot worse films out there.
A 2.5 rating from Break the Film.
Until next time!!!

The Breakfast Club
Directed by: John Hughes
Starring: Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson Emilio Estevez
I have been recently working my way through the must see films before you die list and this particular film was on almost everyone of them!! I was quite ashamed to say I hadn't seen it so, sat back, pop-corned up and hit play!!
Tumblr media
The Plot
Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal (Paul Gleason). The disparate group includes rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) and Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the jock. Each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently -- and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.
What was good about it
Errrr..... WOW. I can see why the film made the list. It is all about the relationship of the characters and the relationship everyone watching feels to each one. were you the jock?? or the pretty girl?? the nerd?? the rebel?? or the weird one??
each character is scripted and acted out beautifully.
I love the switch too. from a fun loving movie to the dark regrets of each person due to their social standings in the community of highschool.
It really is just a fantastic film.
What was shit about it
i felt the unity towards the end of the essay was a bit corney. The nerd would never write that. Maybe the Jock or the Rebel but not the nerd
Overall opinion
Utter genius and a fantastic movie .
5/5

Girls Trip
Directed by: Malcolm D. Lee
Starring: Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, Mike Colter, Kate Walsh
What’s It About?
Childhood friends, Ryan (Hall) (yes, apparently that can be a girl’s name), Sasha (Queen Latifah), Lisa (Pinkett Smith) and Dina (Haddish), aka The Flossy Posse, have grown distant over the years, but when Ryan, a highly successful celebrity personality alongside husband Stuart (Colt), is invited to be the be the keynote speaker at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, she decides to use it as an opportunity for her and her best friends to reconnect.
What’s Good About It?
I was more than a little apprehensive going in - I was some sort of hideous hybrid of Bridesmaids and The Sweetest Thing.
What I got was something really, truly funny - at least to begin with.
Haddish’s Dina completely steals the show - from the beginning of the film where she sort-of-but-not-really talks her way out getting fired to the now-infamous grapefruiting demonstration, the larger-than-life character dominates throughout.
A few choice excerpts:
“I got some bomb-ass kush if you wanna take a hit.”
“A ghost tried to fuck me.”
“Your nephew is nasty, he a nasty n*****.”
“You can donate it to the My Little Pony Motorcycle Club.”
“You fucking with Gladys Knight n*****.”
“You can’t get no infection in your booty hole. It’s a booty hole!”
“I’m gonna put hands on him. I’m talking hot grits, extension cords, Timberland boots. I’m gonna fuck up that bitch’s Instagram account. I’m gonna put two Q-Tips inside his peepee hole and I’m gonna walk ‘em around, just wipe and swipe through that thing. And then I’m gonna yank ‘em out!”
You get the picture.
You also get a convincing sense that these people could legitimately be mates, as opposed to an archetypal group thrown together for comedic effect.
What’s Shit About It?
For me, the film started to decline towards the end as it reached its emotional climax and Ryan’s existential revelation.
The storyline follows a tried-and-tested formula so it was inevitable, but considering the rest of the film was pretty good, it felt a little disappointing to be let down in that way.
Overall
At its best moments it’s pure filth, up there with some of the most depraved raunch movies around.
At its worst it’s the formulaic, predictable chick flick it’s title suggests it to be.
Thankfully, there are enough of the former to make the latter bearable.
A 3.5 rating from Break the Film.

Mission Impossible: Fallout
Director Christopher McQuarrie
Cast: Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Michelle Monaghan, Vanessa Kirby
With Mission Impossible, you know what your getting before you get in and this time I came out getting not what I expected!!
Tumblr media
The Plot
Ethan Hunt and the IMF team join forces with CIA assassin August Walker to prevent a disaster of epic proportions. Arms dealer John Lark and a group of terrorists known as the Apostles plan to use three plutonium cores for a simultaneous nuclear attack on the Vatican, Jerusalem and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. When the weapons go missing, Ethan and his crew find themselves in a desperate race against time to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
what was good about it
The storyline is Solid and very strong. Much better than the previous couple of films anyway. And the stunts.... WOW take a bow TC.
Henry put a good performance in aswell which was surprising. Vanessa Kirby though is my big shout out call in this movie. Fantastic!! superb on camera and the acting performance was 5 star.
What was shit about it
It was a bit long. Also too far fetched, even for a Mission Impossible Movie!! TC is getting old too and its starting to show.
Overall Opinion
Worth a watch and the strongest in the franchise in years!! 4/5 from us here at BTF.

Pacific Rim: Uprising
Directed by: Steven S. DeKnight
Starring: John Boyega, Cailee Spaeny, Scott Eastwood, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi
What’s it about?
Set 10 years after the events of Pacific Rim, humanity has gotten used to life without the threat of the Kaiju and their extradimensional overlords, the Precursors.
However, when that threat once again rears its head, Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, and himself a once-promising Jaeger pilot, is called back into action.
What’s good about it?
Sadly, not a lot.
The concept is interesting and Boyega and his co-star Spaeny do what they can.
What’s shit about it?
While the concept may be decent, the execution is so, so poor.
The script is mostly laboured and the special effects, which made the first film so visually astounding, feel lazy - like they just couldn’t be arsed to put as much effort into it this time around.
Considering the size of the creatures and robots battling it out, the whole thing just feels small.
There’s none of the love and care that Del Toro’s lavished on his big-screen homage to anime and kaiju movies. It feels devoid of any real enthusiasm on the director’s part,
Overall
Sorely disappointed - I really love Pacific Rim and to see the sequel fall so far short is, honestly, heart-breaking.
I can’t really give it more than a 1 rating. A piss-poor effort and you have no idea how much it hurts to say that.
Until next time!!!

The Devil and Father Amorth
Directed by:William Friedkin
Now Netflix really Sold this to the masses with the opening lines of Exorcist Director and actual exorcism. I mean Wow. The church allowed a recording and we can watch it!! However like most of the hype of shit like this it was a bitter disappointment.
Tumblr media
The Plot
The Devil and Father Amorth is a 2017 documentary film directed by William Friedkin showing the ninth exorcism of an Italian woman in the village of Venafro referred to as "Cristina", this time performed by Father Gabriele Amorth
What was good about it
Absolutely fuck all!!
What was shit about it
where to begin. The shitty filming. The sound effects added to the possession. Useless information about stuff no one cared about in the Documentary so mind nummingly boring.
Overall opinion
A once great director who has held on to his success for 40 years and shows he just cant cut it in the modern world. Utter crap. i rarely turn films or documentaries off before at least the end credits but this went off with 10 minuets to spare. comically bad. 0/5 from BTF

First Doctor Who Teaser Trailer Released
Can’t actually believe that it’s been a year since it was announced that Jodie Whittaker would be stepping into the role of The Doctor in the BBC’s iconic sci-fi TV series.
The actor, whose previous credentials include Brit sci-fi movie Attack the Block, Black Mirror and Broadchurch (alongside former Doctor David Tennant), replaces Peter Capaldi as the heroic Time Lord, the first woman to take on the role.
And now we’ve seen the first teaser trailer to be released since the announcement was made.
But don’t hold your breath for anything spectacular - the clip does little more than introduce the new Doctor and her companions, played by Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.
Regardless of how little it gives away, I’m excited to see what’s in store for this new incarnation of The Doctor and what Whittaker can bring to the role.
I’ve not been let down so far - well, except for Capaldi - never really grew on me.
Loved Tennant and Smith though - absolutely incredible.

Annihilation
The online community raved about this film and I decided to sit down and see what the fuss was all about. It looked good on paper
Tumblr media
The Plot
Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac. It works of the premise that an alien species has invaded earth and is slowly taking over the planet through plain expansion. a group of female scientists go in to investigate.
What was good about it
Visually it was very good. The concept of the book idea was well portrayed in the film.I aslo thought Natalie put in a very solid performance.
What was shit about it
Everything else. The story was poorly executed from its original content and the other actors were just plain nonsense.
Overall opinion
I honestly don’t understand what the fuss was about this film. It was very poor. Coinfusing direction and lack of book to film content
1/5 from BTF. don’t waste your time!!

First Poster for M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Glass’ Breaks
Ever since Bruce Willis’s cameo in Split, movie-goers have been anticipating the release of the third instalment in M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘trilogy that no one knew was a trilogy’.
Starring Willis reprising his role as the unbreakable David Dunn, James McAvoy as the multiplicitous Kevin Wendell Crumb and Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price a.k.a. Mr Glass.
And now we have our first promo poster for the film, to be released in January 2019.
Details remain scarce, although we do know that, as per the end of ‘Split’, ‘Glass’ will see Dunn on the trail of Crumb and, as the film’s title suggests, Price will be pulling the strings of both men for his own twisted purposes.
Personally, I can’t wait for this to come out.
Until next time!!!

Raging Bull
Director: Martin Scorsese
Actors: Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Cathy Moriarty
I was ashamed to admit I had never seen this before and currently into my classics and working my way through the must watch films before you die, this was rite on top of the list. I surprised myself as I love early De Niro, Joe Pesci and Martin Scorsese
Tumblr media
The Plot
The story of a middleweight boxer as he rises through ranks to earn his first shot at the middleweight crown. He falls in love with a gorgeous girl from the Bronx. The inability to express his feelings enters into the ring and eventually takes over his life. He eventually is sent into a downward spiral that costs him everything.
What was good about it
I mean wow.... What a film. De Niro was fantastic in it but the real star i thought was Joe. Superb acting and the on screen chemistry was phenomenal. I later found out that to prepare for the role, the two of them lived together so they could really feel like brothers.
The style it was filmed too. Black and white. Bold for the time but holds up in modern days so back then I could only assume it went down as genius.
true stories are always great and when you have some the best actors and director in the word behind it you will never ( or rarely) be disappointed.
What was shit about it
Nothing!! keep in mind the time it was released and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it!!
Overall opinion
5/5 absolute watch and defiantly deserves to be on the 100 films to see before you die!!
so different to rocky and often compared to but they really are entirely different movies. ones the gritty true passion truth and ones the fairytale. you know which ones which.
outstanding!!

Dark Tower
Director: Nikolaj Arcel
Actors: Idris Elba Matthew McConaughey
I didn’t want to watch it but  it was based off a Stephen King novel and lets be honest. the man is a Writing God so it surely couldn’t be all bad could it??
Tumblr media
The Plot
Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.
What was good about it
Absolutely fuck all!!
What was shit about it
Everything!!
it lacked complete direction and character statutory. I had no idea what the dark tower was. I had no idea what a gunslinger was. I had no idea what the man in black was suppose to be. I had no idea why the boy was so special. I had no idea about the other worlds. I had no idea bout the portal and rebels. I had no idea about the guns. Basically the film lacked every detail to actually tell you what you were watching!! Something King would have gone into great depth about probably in the book (haven’t read it)
the film was a complete disaster!!
Overall opinion.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT waste your time on this shite excuse for a motion picture. utter rubbish. 1/5 from BTF
it was like watching several clips of short movies. utter shite

The House
Director:
Actors: Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Jason Mantzoukas
It has the King in it. It cant be bad. Well of course it could be bad but with Will, you know what your getting. Slap stick humour with a story that doesn’t need to make sense. and i’m a big fan of Jason Mantzoukas from Brooklyn 99 and The league so I sat down and was ready for some light hearted comedy!!
Tumblr media
The Plot
Scott and Kate Johansen must figure out a way to earn some money after their daughter's scholarship falls through. When all else fails, the desperate couple join forces with their neighbour Frank to start an underground casino in his home. As the cash rolls in and the good times fly, Scott and Kate soon learn that they may have bitten off more than they can chew.
What was good about it
In some parts its very funny. Like the simple humour really plays off well. I was laughing out loud in many parts of the film!! The King (Will) does it best when it comes to comedy.
What was shit about it
The story is ridiculous and of course that puts a downer on the film but if you know what your getting into, this is a minor inconvenience.
Overall opinion
Full of laughs and if your looking for a light hearted comedy to watch where your attention can be at the most basic level then this is for you.
3/5 from btf

Mother
Director: Darren Aronofsky
Actors: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem
I will practically watch anything with Jen. She is a fantastic actor. This film received a-lot of criticism so for once, i was skeptical going in but i sat down and experienced the horrifying and disturbing film Mother.
Tumblr media
The Plot
A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.'
What was good about it
OH MY FUCKING GOD!!
the last 20 minuets were some of the most disturbing imagery and pieces of filming  I have seen in a film. Being a newly (Ish) father my heart broke as i watched what unfolded.
Leading on from this once you understand the hidden metaphor of the whole film and its concept, it is very and i mean VERY clever!! Hats off to the writers and director.
Jennifer, i also believe, put in one of the performances of her career so its a shame it got blasted.
What was shit about it
Fuck me the 1st hour was boring. Yes it clicked what was going on when the sons arrived but up to that point it was weird and the flow and style was all over the place. Maybe if i got it earlier my opinion would be different, but even if i did, i Think i would have the same views!!
Overall opinion
Very Very slow starter of a movie but once it starts to fall into place, it explodes with human consumption and empathy. Jennifer is great in it. Javier, solid. Shame about the reviews but i’m happy to say its a 3/5 from us at BTF

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Directed by: J.A. Bayona
Starring: Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniela Pineda, James Cromwell, Jeff Goldblum, B.D. Wong, Ted Levine
Not sure you’d necessarily class this as family friendly but I loved the original Jurassic Park as a kid so what the hell?
What’s it about?
Set three years after the incident that brought Jurassic World to its knees, the once-dormant volcano on Isla Nublar threatens to wipe out the island’s population of dinosaurs.
With the world’s governments refusing to intervene, former Jurassic Word operations director, Claire Dearing (Howard) has taken it upon herself to campaign to save these creatures and, with the backing of John Hammond’s former partner, Benjamin Lockwood (Cromwell), she enlists Owen Grady (Pratt) on a rescue mission.
What’s good about it?
I really like the direction that the franchise is headed in.
Ever since the very first film, where Dennis Nedry attempts to steal fertilised dinosaur embryos, fans have been asking the question of what would happen if these creatures and this technology made it into the wrong hands.
Thankfully, we’re starting to see the answer to that question, something the first two Jurassic Park sequels failed to address.
I mightily enjoyed Goldblum’s cameo - it was, in my opinion, one of the most compelling performances of the whole film, vocalising the concerns of a reality where dinosaurs are unleashed on the world and Hammond’s genetic technology becomes the latest weapon proliferated by the human race.
What’s bad about it?
Fallen Kingdom is more of a transitional film, the setup before we see the impact of the wider ramifications of Hammond’s technology on the world.
And in that sense it works - sort of.
I don’t actually think that this film needed to be made - I think they could have, potentially, jumped straight into the ‘what if’ scenario of widespread use of genetic technology, and dinosaurs being used for insidious means (it had been three years since Jurassic World went under and you expect me to believe that it hadn’t been targeted by all manner of illegal operations?).
I guess that I just expected more from the Jurassic World sequel - to me, the first one felt so ‘big’ and atmospheric - dinosauric. And I suppose I thought they’d try and go bigger.
Fallen Kingdom transitions quickly from the island setting, focusing on Lockwood’s home, and, for me, it makes the whole film feel really confined.
As far as performances are concerned, Pratt’s got a few decent licks in but overall I think it took itself a little more seriously than the first, which worked against it.
Overall
It was alright but not the sequel I was hoping for.
It’s a stepping stone film between Jurassic World and the upcoming third film that I don’t think was entirely necessary.
Entertaining but falls short of anything more - does the job making money and laying up for what, I hope, proves to be a sensational Jurassic World 3.
A 3 rating from Break the Film.
Until next time!!!

Hereditary
Directed by: Ari Aster
Starring: Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro
What’s it about?
After the death of Annie’s (Collette) secretive and estranged mother Ellen, she and her family, husband Steve (Byrne), teenage son Peter (Wolff) and batshit 13-year-old daughter Charlie, begin to discover the secrets that Ellen kept from her loved ones and the fate that those secrets have created for them.
What’s good about it?
A really interesting story and the film does a fantastic job of building the suspense slowly, almost painstakingly - but this only serves to draw it out even more and play upon the audience’s nerves.
The performances from the cast are solid, especially Collette, portraying the terror experienced and emotional rawness by her character Annie as the true extent of what she and her family have been caught up in dawns on her, against their wills and without ever realising it.
What’s shit about it?
Personally, I think that all of time invested in building the suspense is wasted unnecessarily at the very end - it felt disappointingly anticlimactic.
Overall
Enjoyable and haunting - even nearly a week later there are scenes from that film that have stayed with me.
Just a bit of a disappointing ending for me.
A 3.5 rating from Break the Film

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
Directed by: Dave Green
Starring: Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell, Laura Linney
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure why I watched this film, apart from some awful sense of morbid curiosity - kind of like why I went to see Transformers: Last Knight in the cinema.
Anyway, here’s my review.
What’s It About?
Picking up where the last movie left off, the Turtles, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michaelangelo, continue to defend New York City against hidden threats, unknown and continuing to protect from the shadows.
Tensions come to a head amongst the brothers that threatens to tear their team apart, but when their nemesis Shredder escapes and teams up with an otherworldly being who poses an even greater threat, the Turtles have to put aside their differences if they’re to stand any chance of saving the day.
What’s Good About It?
The special effects are solid, there’s no doubt about that - and I actually like the way they’ve done the Turtles.
I think they look awesome.
But that’s about as much as I can say that’s positive about this movie.
What’s Bad About It?
Everything else.
The same thing that could be said for the first film can be said for this one - it’s like they took the same formula they used for the Transformers films and switched the robots for anthropomorphic amphibians.
They’ve even got Megan Fox playing almost exactly the same type of role.
The music even sounds the same (mainly because Steve Jablonsky, the man responsible for scoring the first Transformers movie, did the music for this one).
The script’s cringe-worthy, the plot’s predictable and boring - there’s really nothing new on offer here.
Even the addition of Arrow’s Stephen Amell does nothing to improve things as his character, Casey Jones, lacks any sort of depth or significance to the plot.
Overall
I didn’t think much of the first Turtles reboot, and my hopes weren’t high for Out of the Shadows either.
At least I wasn’t disappointed.
Until next time!!!

Solo: A Star Wars Story
directed by: Ron Howard
Starring: Alden Ehrenreich Donald Glover Emilia Clarke Woody Harreison
Tumblr media
The Plot
Young Han Solo finds adventure when he joins a gang of galactic smugglers, including a 196-year-old Wookie named Chewbacca. Indebted to the gangster Dryden Vos, the crew devises a daring plan to travel to the mining planet Kessel to steal a batch of valuable coaxium. In need of a fast ship, Solo meets Lando Calrissian, the suave owner of the perfect vessel for the dangerous mission -- the Millennium Falcon
Was I excited about seeing this?? Not really and thats a shame on so many accounts which I will get into but mainly because The last Jedi was so shit and as a star wars fan im not interested in watching 2 hours of a different actor play Han solo!! But of courseI can’t be a fan unless I see it so.
What was good about it
Saying Ron Howard saved the movie is an understatement. I mean it was publicly know it was a disaster before he jumped on board. The final version we got given had RON WRITTEN ALL OVER IT.  From the dialogue to the pacing whatever shit show Ron was given, he produced something quite decent.
The actors’s performances was solid too with an introduction to some new characters which I felt fitted well in to the star wars universe. Unlike Last Jedi I actually felt I was watching a star wars film.
What was shit about it
I felt sorry for Alden as even though he put in a very solid performance, the character was doomed from the start mainly to its own success throughout the franchise. Ford made that character and a copycat is not what fans are looking for.
The timeline is fucked. I mean completely fucked. I’m left struggling to see where this movie fits in. As a fan thats pretty fucking annoying. massive holes in its structure to the franchise. Han says in new hope I have never heard of some force but with the current timeline in his own movie, the Jedi council was still around had a table at the republican senate . How could he not know about them!! Even if im wrong and its after the revenge of the sith, he would still know where everything stands being not enough time had past.
L-3 was shit. Just a waste of time. Up there with Jar jar in my opinion. trying to force merchandise on the fans again.
Overall opinion
Its Star Wars and a very good attempt. Far from Disappointing but not mind blowing. if you rate it in all the star wars films it would sit slap bang in the middle. 3/5
