I feel like working with hand-dyed yarn is a form of artistic collaboration between the dyer and the knitter.
The yarn is Love Letters from Gem State Yarn on Etsy. Ten mini-skeins of fingering weight yard all dyed using different techniques. So nothing exactly matches another yarn, (different bases and skein sizes are available. I bought enough for a small shawl.)
Which was a challenge. It's not a fade set. It's not exactly variegated because sometimes it's speckled and in a couple of places solid. What to do? It took a couple of attempts but --
I've decided It's called White Chocolate Raspberry because it looks like it should be called that.

Various views of my take on Ambah O’Brien’s Celestial Shawl. I used two skeins of Blossoms from Wonderland Yarns (Dahlia and Clemantis) and two skeins of tosh DK in onyx.

It is finally properly cold where I live (as in, I have finally broken out the thermal leggings) and it is the start of advent season!
Behold the ghosts of advents past!
I am about as religious as a box of toenails, but I can never resist the allure of mystery collectibles. It just scratches the itch in the old magpie brain. Thus I have found myself the owner of several yarn advents that I am just starting to knit up.
This current project is made with yarn from the Victorian Vampire advent by The Spinning Spider (who I don't think is dying yarn anymore), and the pattern is by Hannah of Yarn and Sarcasm

The moment of truth when I find out - how big is this thing?
Apparently more than one Subaru wide and able to cover the hood. It's still currently sopping wet but will dry quickly provided I dont decide to drive anywhere. (There really isn't a good, flat space this side in the house so the Subaru does double duty blocking projects)
The pattern is a heavily modified version of the Pressed Flowers shawl on Ravelry. Modified because I was working with weird, vintage yarn that is completely the wrong weight so it would have ended far too early otherwise.
(the orange is a linen cotten blend that I adore. The purple blue a cotton blend that felt like I was knitting with serated yarn. But it was the perfect match for the orange. The lighter blue is called "what do you mean that was my last ball of the blue color?" The color difference is a little less pronounced when dry and just manages to look like it might have been a stylistic decision.

Finished the Reyna shawl, a free pattern on Ravelry. It’s kind of funny how generational differences can show up in these. My grandmother has also made one of these and she found it difficult to knit with the mesh holes and keeping track of what rows you’re on. I who have access to yarn stores and YouTube videos got through this with ease. It really makes you realize where you’ve come from as a knitter and how far education on knitting and fiber arts has come. She only ever had access to what her family had on knitting, couldn’t fathom the things I make now. She still can’t.
Yarn is Scottish Sunset by Honey Girl Farms

Time for another big ass yarn adventure!
My local yarn store got bought by another lovely in our community a couple years ago. And because the previous owner and the new owner are very different people, the new owner had some opinions about some of the stock she inherited. She found a bunch of already matted braids of wool roving, a couple of them CUT IN HALF BY SCISSORS. So she was ready to just throw them in a bonfire. But a friend and I are willing to go through the challenge for free wool.
Through a stupid amount of pre-drafting I was able to get a decent chain ply out of it and while I was caking it up, it decided that it needed to be wings.
Last October I was so wack with poo brain, I could not for the life of me start another free-style knitting project so I started a Wingspan shawl.
And dear lord, did it take forever to grow!
First row of feathers
Second row of feathers
Oh she getting places! 3rd row of feathers
And now in May, she off the needles! It's a very cool pattern with some super fancy footwork, and I am so slow. But learned a bunch of cool tricks!
BEHOLD! THE IMPORTANCE OF BLOCKING!
