The whole god-complex accusation pisses me off because it completely ignores the context of the situation. When Gojo made that statement, he was CLEARLY in an altered state of mind. He just came back from the dead, more or less, likely had to reconstruct part of his brain cause Toji stabbed him in the face, and tapped into depths of power he likely never thought possible. And all of this happened when he was about 15 or so at MOST. So, yeah, the kid was allowed to go a little loopy in that context.
If he had a god complex, he would probably say something arrogant upon Toji's death like 'I will not be denied' or 'I am the strongest' or whatever. Instead, he quietly asks for last words and fulfills that request when the time comes.
Gojo is arrogant, yeah, but god complex? Nope. The timeskip in that arc shows him lamenting just how little power he actually has. (I'm strong but its not enough. I can only save those who are willing to be saved')
Hi! Thanks for sending this because I wholeheartedly agree!
Manga spoilers below the cut.
Yeah, same. I hate it with a passion. I can accept if people say "he's close to a God complex". I'll definitely agree when people say "Gojo is the closest thing to a God in their verse", because it's true but it's the God complex thing that throws me off entirely because, as you said, it's out of context. They're basing it on that ONE panel where he says he's the Honored One. Three panels if you count him saying he's the strongest and how he'd win against Sukuna.
He was a teenager at that point & teenage minds are still pretty feeble, especially if you consider his circumstances. And then being stabbed in the forehead?
Consider this as well: Toji was at least 25 or something, at that point. The man has been married. In order to marry without parental consent, you have to be 20. Then add like 5 years, because of Megumi, on top of those 20 years of life. So it's safe to say he's someone with a more developed, adult, mind, unlike teenage Gojo, and he really said "Is this man high?" to Gojo... who he has fought before, so he does know a little bit about the personality of his opponent.
Toji stabbed Gojo in the forehead and very clearly penetrated it, so it's safe to assume that the man put immense force into that stab. Imagine taking a hit with that force if Toji had only used his palm or something. Gojo must have had at least a concussion. But considering it was a penetrating stab that broke through his cranium and probably dura mater as well, so part of his brain was definitely injured (key word: penetrating head injury). Just looked it up and found the case of Phineas Gage who survived having a tamping iron driven through his skull, yet "came back as another person" aka change in personality.
So yes, Gojo definitely was delirious and not in the right state of mind.
I'm gonna go a little bit extreme here, to contrast your softer version of what he would have said in that case, but if he had a God complex, he would have stomped on Toji's dead body and asked something like "You dare to challenge me?".
Gojo deals with too much he cannot handle at once in that fight and it shows afterwards when he carries Riko's corpse and asks Geto (and I'd like to believe he does it in a pretty calm and maybe even lower voice than usual), "Do you want to kill them all? Right now, I probably won't even feel anything." In that moment he realizes that, despite being deemed the strongest, he's so powerless that he - no, the strongest duo (two people) - can't even protect one individual's life. Protecting the world? That would take more, hence why he focuses on training afterwards, to rightfully become the strongest.
Arrogant, conceited, anything; that's what describes Gojo well, in my opinion. A God would be able to change the world with a snap of his fingers but Gojo is only human. As I said, the closest thing to a God in that verse.
Where are the "God complex"-ionists when talking about Sukuna? Geto? But Geto is a post for another day. Why do they only discuss Gojo?
I could probably write a longer reply but I think this will do for now. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Hey friend, I was going through some of your Mass Effect stuff on a binge and I have one question regarding the whole meld with Liara thing?
Meta reasons aside. In universe: why can't Shepard categorically REJECT the whole notion of melding with Liara for the simple reason of being an active Special Forces Operative?
Meaning Shepard likely has knowledge and intel on classified Alliance Operations that would be marked as 'Need to know', and by going through with the meld - it risks compromising those operations? I know we're supposed to trust Liara at her word because she's 'best girl' or whatever the hell that is (Ashley is best girl imo, but that's neither here nor there) but such a MASSIVE security breach like that seems like something Shepard wouldn't willingly allow to happen.
Especially if Liara turned out to be less than "benevolent". Imagine if she were untoward and working for Saren and Benezia. She could leech need-to-know information from Shepard's mind as well as tip Saren+Benezia to Shepard's plans, allowing them to counter him at every turn. Imagine if Liara leaked intel on every classified operation Shepard was involved in, some of which would ruffle feathers of other races, and end with those operations being compromised. And imagine if the Alliance traced the leak back to him - which could result in his total court martial and imprisonment at best, firing squad at worst?
That's his entire life destroyed and the Alliance forever discredited and likely on a lotta people's shit lists.
Or am I thinking about this too much?
Honestly, this is an entirely valid point. At times, I've brought up that Liara... REALLY should be looked at in ME1 with at least a little more suspicion. Her mother is an asari Matriarch, working alongside Saren after his attempt to destroy Eden Prime. Just basic security calls for being skeptical that Liara is on the level, there's every reason to AT LEAST raise the question that she's a spy for Benezia, and yet the game kinda dismisses the very concept (granted, if ME1 were produced for the first time today, after years of BioWare leaning on the idea in Dragon Age of companion betrayal, I feel like there WOULD be more acknowledgement that yeah, the player could easily be betrayed by someone who's a companion, but when ME1 was first released, the companion plot armor makes us think a character is on the up and up).
But you're right, Shepard, being an Alliance special forces officer, someone who is, prior to the beacon, an N7 ranked first officer of the most advanced vessel of the Alliance navy... Yeah, they've surely got a classification level that means that they should be more protective of the things in their head, that they have the kind of security clearances that often reach a level of being too high to be casually expressing them to even the official Alliance crew among them, let alone the non-Alliance crew Shepard brings in.
And I'm sure there are people who proceed to argue that "oh, well, the meld can single in on things, it's not going to be that she forces herself into everything in Shepard's mind"... Okay, thing the first is that there's no way that Shepard's mind is SO ordered that the only thing that they'd put forth for Liara to experience in the meld is the vision. It's just not the way the human mind is built and operates.
But, more importantly... It doesn't matter that she doesn't or wouldn't. It matters that Shepard is giving her the opportunity to do so. It matters that this is a security risk that should be acknowledged. Like, Ashley brings up the fact that Shepard has brought on non-humans to the state-of-the-art, the-design-is-still-deeply-classified Normandy, but won't address her CO getting their brain scrambled and letting a non-Alliance civilian who is related to one of their enemies have access to their brain and all its classified information? (And I refuse to accept this as just "well, it's not required to pick up Liara before Virmire, she could be dead!" because the game is clearly flowing with Liara picked up sooner, and, either way, this is a conversation that Ashley or Kaidan, the Alliance officers, should acknowledge.)

Imagine Sparda giving his baby Vergil and Dante their own Geryon ponies to raise as a birthday present. "Now boys, these are difficult horses to raise. So you must exercise extreme caution." Eva has very mixed feelings about letting her two troublemaker boys have access to horses that can control time, /ESPECIALLY/ after she caught Dante and Vergil mock jousting each other in the manor's hallway.

(If you're a fan of the Dragon Prince) Shiro would be a Startouch Elf, change my mind. :)
sorry for taking so long to reply.  I don’t actually watch TDP and so my knowledge of it is limited to what I glean off what comes through my dash.  Startouch elf does sound like a Shiro thing just from the name alone which really conjures up some beautiful mental imagery in my head (sparkly skin isn’t it?)
I also remember @breezycheezyart did this really adorable shallura post about Shiro as one of the elves that have wings (and they even included his twin brother as an engineer which just - fed my soul so well, especially the way they portrayed him).  I’ll find and reblog it to share again.  But basically I am just very pro ‘anything that gives Shiro the sky’ (and super pro-givethemanwings!).  So I am loving Shiro, sparkles, wings, pointy ears, all of it!

So, I've recently gotten back into Voltron (shame there was only two seasons and that really cool short fight between Kuro and Keith), and I was wondering if I could borrow a concept you brought up in Atlas, Wolf and the Bayard. Where Shiro could channel the powers of Black...? Except, across all the paladins when they bond closely enough to their lions. (IE. Keith manipulating and gaining immunity to fire, Lance being immune to drowning and cold temps etc etc)
Yeah, sure. I don’t have a problem with that. Have fun with it! ^^

Yes he is. I have started to give sparda trio split pupils to show their demon heritage even though they dont have any in canon but you know, thats the aesthetic i love.

Querry for the curious: When Griffon first openly fought Dante, he stated that he and the other familiars were castoffs of Vergil's abominable thoughts, and at his death declared that it was the 'end of Vergil's nightmares' - how do you interpret that? Is it the memories and destructive thoughts themselves are gone? Or are the memories still there, but the lingering emotional trauma associated with said memories have been destroyed? Your thoughts?
Okay, uh. Ihope it’s okay if I give a very self-indulgent, headcanon answer on this? XDBecause here goes nothing:
I alwayshad the feeling that Griffon, Shadow and Nightmare were already more than simple, normal bad memories before Yamato cut Vergil in half.
Like – the thingI got caught up on is: What Yamato does is separate the human from the devilpart, be it in a person (splitting Vergil), or in dimensions (opening gates). There is absolutely nothing aboutYamato’s power that should have made Vergil’s nightmares come to life and givethem a physical form like that.
And yes, Iknow it’s mostly for effect and for gameplay by Capcom, to give V familiars, but I mean – in game. In the story, taking what Yamato does into account, heshould have been a completely normal human without any familiars. Yamato doesnot have the ability to give him living, breathing companions made from hisnightmares – not by itself.
So Iactually headcanon that there’s already been something magical been at play before the splitting. Like, maybe,Mundus using some kind of trick or illusion to make sure that Vergil’snightmare would never get better or fade over time, so that even while underhis control, or even after he broke free, Vergil would be haunted and torturedby it like he was the first day, even when decades pass. Mundus was a sadisticbastard like that, never letting someone get free of pain and fear just so hecould laugh at their misery.
And thenwhen splitting, those nightmares given extra power by the old demon king weresplit alongside V – because V got the emotions and memories out of the two ofthem, not Urizen, and Mundus’ nightmares stayed with him because of it.
Based onthat, Griffon and the others sacrificing themselves would free Vergil not fromhis nightmares or memories – he needs those, terrible as they are, they did make him who he is now, and he needs to workthrough them, not forget them – but simply free him from Mundus’ lastinfluence, the kind of nightmare that he could never get over. And what’s leftnow is a kind of… fear, bad memories and nightmares that’s older, a bit faded, something he can learn to live with without getting paralyzed and tormented byit. Lingering memories, yes, but not, like, fresh ones.
Uh, butreally, that’s just my very adventurous take on it. XD I liked the idea, because it just didn’t add up for me that a)Vergil was in such horrible shape even years after what happened to him as NeloAngelo and b) Yamato not being ableto create anything, it’s literally made for splitting / destroying, andcreating familiars is out if its control

I was watching some of Voltron S7 again, and that game show episode about the god-like creature who apparently 'tests heroes worthiness'? Until the show shows me otherwise, I choose to believe he took one look at Shiro, told him 'Nah bro, you're cool. Take the afternoon off' and sent him to chill on a beach somewhere while everyone else was tested.
I’ve read some similar posts, and that is totally your right. Headcanon the shit out of that. Go you!
I would have liked to have seen that, though. Can you imagine how awesome that would have been?
Keith: Hey, where’s Shiro?
Bob: Well, I’m glad you asked. Everyone, let’s check out the beach cam - and there’s our tested hero, just chilling with a cool drink and a six pack…and it’s not cool brews I’m talking about.
Lance: Wait. Shiro gets a pass?!
Bob: You mean the guy who fought in the Galra arena for his friend, the person who died fighting Zarkon, the guy whose clone was tortured by Haggar and almost killed by your current leader, only for all of you to use his body as a vessel? He’s not getting a pass. He’s already taken all the AP finals and aced every single one of them.
Lance: Oh, yeah, that makes sense.
/end scene
I still think Shiro should have been part of the game, and I think the game was flawed after seven seasons. The paladins should have owned that game. If not, why are they even paladins? They shouldn’t be able to form Voltron the way they played.
But I digress….
Go you!

another headcanon: In the pilot, where Keith is pretty much cool with jumping off a damn cliff? The reason he is is cause he and Shiro used to do it ALL THE TIME way back when.
HELLS YEAH!
Tumblr media
Okay so, I like to think that Keith’s big problem with the Garrison was all the stuff that existed between himself and sitting in the pilot’s seat. It wasn’t that he was necessarily bad at his studies, but as many intelligent and innately talented people are, he HATED homework and tests and studying and all those freaking charts and WHY CAN’T HE JUST GO FLY ALREADY!?
As he did many times Shiro would drag off Keith, who was moody from a rough day in classes, outside to race across the dunes. This particular time, he knew Keith was really down, so he gave him the /ultimate/ sacrifice and let Keith drive his beautiful red hoverbike, while he picked up the keys to a rental from the Garrison hangar. To take Keith’s mind off his frustrations, Shiro would pick a point and challenge him to a race. Maybe it was the cabin, maybe some other landmark. Then he’d tear off, leaving Keith with no more room to think about what was bothering him.
And this day Keith is closer to overtaking Shiro then he’s ever been before. While he might be awkward when he’s grounded, he’s a natural when he’s moving. His ship, his hoverbike, are all just extensions of himself and he maneuvers with a grace few of the other cadets can ever dream of obtaining. But Shiro is one of them too and he’s won every race thus far.
Blood pounding in their ears and dust devils in their wake, they slip under the shadows of the bluff and dance along the edge. It’s a dangerous turn, right next to the sheer drop below, but they’ve done it a hundred times before. Only this time, Keith has another idea. As he sees Shiro banking for the turn, inspiration strikes him. He knows another way he can win, if he can only pull it off.
Tumblr media
And suddenly Shiro hears Keith rev up his engines behind him and he slams on his breaks, forcing himself backwards just in time to watch Keith grit his teeth and sail off the edge. Shiro’s heart drops out of his chest and without thinking, he floors it and follows Keith over the brink. The glare from the sudden sunlight reflected off his bike nearly blinds him, but he hears Keith kick in the jets below and instinctively does the same. For a moment, time seems to pass in slow motion as he catches a glimpse of red and white through the cloud of sand and dust.
And then all he hears is the roar of engines and Keith’s wild laughter. His eyes are blazing with victory when they reach the finish line. It’s the first time he’s won! Every lecture and chiding Shiro had prepared from the sudden fear at Keith’s stunt dies on his lips when the smaller pilot gives him a rib crushing hug.
From then on, they took turns seeing how much time they could cut off taking this jump. After they had it down to a science, they started experimenting with other dangerous leaps.
When he was alone and searching for answers, Keith probably avoided a lot of the old haunts. They probably brought back too many potent memories to bear for long. But when he was racing away from the Garrison recovery team, it all came back in a flood. He knew exactly the best place to shake their pursuers ~
Thanks for the headcanon idea @knightofacherus ! I had a lot of fun writing this one :3

I have an interesting idea for you: Based on the timeless isle daily quest about the history of the world. What if Darion Mograine had become the new Lich King instead of Bolvar? The man's all about self-sacrifice, retribution and atonement. The Ebon Blade backed by the Scourge work machine can only be an asset... what fun to contemplate~! :D
i have so many feelings about darion becoming lich king!
like, i understand that bringing bolvar back was a last-minute thing because they realized that if arthas died and the threat of the scourge was finished forever, they’d never be able to bring it back into the storyline. and i do actually like bolvar as lich king insofar as what i imagine his struggles are trying to remain somewhat moral and reasonable while contending with the weight of both arthas’ and ner’zhul’s legacies and the ‘memory’ of their wills in the scourge. (and obviously not always managing to negotiate that slippery slope, if legion is any indication).
but also, darion’s whole life has been self-sacrifice. its very bleak, but i fully imagine him being raised by alexandros with the idea that darion can somehow achieve greatness and it will ‘make up’ for elena’s death and what alexandros feels was elena’s lost potential. which is a hell of a thing to teach a little kid, when it boils down to ‘you have to succeed because otherwise your mother died for nothing’. especially considering alexandros is the one who’s really At Fault for elena dying in the first place, and although arguments could be made that at least part of his shitty parenting was a result of him knowing that and being guilty about it. the result is that darion grew up to be a person who is highly skilled, highly intelligent, highly ambitious, and with very very little self-worth. the omnipresent idea that elena sacrificed herself so he could live made a very deep impression on darion. and so the combined notion that self-sacrifice for a loved one is the greatest expression of love, as well as the idea that he himself needed to be held to a higher standard to be ‘worthy’ of that sacrifice (and thus, worthy of love) literally drove him to suicide at the first light’s hope.
and to sort of segue into a tangent for a moment, tirion absolutely did not know that darion’s idea of what the greatest expression of love was when he told darion that ‘only a greater act of love can undo an act of evil’. and tirion was honestly horrified that darion took his advice like that, even if it did save the argent dawn.
the way i imagine it is like this: tirion and darion are at icecrown’s summit after arthas has been defeated. terenas’ ghost tells them that there must always be a lich king. bolvar died at the wrathgate, and his soul rests now, saved from the darkness of the shadowlands by the red dragonflight’s cleansing fire. the helm of domination rests on the ground between them, and tirion picks it up, contemplating the dimly-glittering jewel and the cold ridges of saronite that make up the helm’s faceplate. tirion would never ask anyone to make a sacrifice he himself would not, and so he intends to assume arthas’ place as lich king. darion stops him. tirion is still mortal, and still one of the living, there’s no reason he should resign himself to undeath when he has the option not to. darion is already dead, and has already served as the lich king’s right hand before he was freed at the second battle for light’s hope. he knows the workings of the scourge, and the necromancy to control them, and has been tied to arthas and ner’zhul’s wills before and broken free. he tells tirion to give him the helm, and tirion does.
i don’t tbh imagine darion deciding to go into the ice, because that was half a writer’s decision to store up the scourge until they wanted to make storylines for it again, and half because i imagine bolvar was still like, tremendously injured by being plagued/burned/tortured. so darion just takes off his own helmet, and for the first time in a long time tirion sees his bare face again. still painfully young, kept hidden behind armour for a reason, and it makes tirion’s heart ache a bit. and then darion slides the helm of domination over his face, and his eyes close, and then open again, the gemstone set into the helm’s faceplate sparking with a new glow, and the lichfire in darion’s eyes more pronounced than before. as he turns away from tirion to take his seat on the frozen throne, tirion grabs him by the arm and pulls him into a hug. its slightly awkward, but tirion doesnt want to let him go without reminding him that tirion is there for him.
and so darion sits the frozen throne. he doesnt allow the ice to take him, because barring kel’thuzad’s shade that wanders the shadowlands, he knows more about the scourge than anyone even nominally alive at this point. he begins calling the scourge back to icecrown. he summons koltira and thassarian and tells them simply: any death knight who isn’t willing to serve him now is free to leave and make their own ends, but he is still highlord of their order, and he wants them to assist in managing the scourge. i feel like the majority of them accept that, because i have a lot of feelings about darion having the respect and honest admiration of his knights. he tried very hard to be a good boss for them, and they’re willing to stay in his service now that he’s lich king.
they set out to contain the scourge. its a Process, to say the least. the undead themselves are easy to manage, because the psychic might of the lich king can reach nearly across the whole of azeroth. its the living cultists that are the problem, and darion issues an ultimatum, return to icecrown and serve the scourge, or die.
i think things are a bit different in this, that there’s not so much a Great Secret that the lich king still exists, so much as its well known that the ebon blade moved into icecrown and is working on destroying the leftover plague caches and containing all the random scourge and so forth. naxxramas gets cleaned up. acherus is moved to hang out over the shadow vault or maybe even the argent tournament grounds once the argent crusade decamps.
its a bit confused, but as i understand it the val’kyr and so forth went looking for work because bolvar was sleeping/moping/whatever and some of them just left. darion doesn’t allow this. he has his death knights to think about, and the val’kyr were their spirit healers, so he very swiftly re-establishes the lich king’s vigil so his knights can be raised by the val’kyr if they should fall.
sylvanas doesnt throw herself off of icecrown, sylvanas isnt particularly welcome in icecrown. no one is quite sure if sylvanas knew about the wrathgate or not, but what is known is that she had approved research on the new plague, and darion isn’t about that plague life. as the leaders of the two undead factions, they write very terse letters to each other, and darion moves his efforts to gather up all the scourge’s necromancers along that much quicker, once he realizes that sylvanas is hunting them too.
and so time passes. in chronicles its made pretty explicitly clear that deathwing hesitated to emerge while arthas was active bc the lich king is such a badass, but when bolvar decided to ‘sleep’ instead of doing anything he took his chance. i feel like darion is a balance between the two approaches to lich kinging: he’s not sleeping in the throne, he’s out and about in icecrown working to restructure and manage his kingdom, because he was raised from birth to be a highlord and he takes his responsibilities seriously. but he’s not plaguing things and being gratuitously evil and actively building his army. so deathwing probably pops up eventually, but perhaps it takes a while longer than in canon, so there’s more time for things to heal post-wrath.
i don’t really see things being Very different than in canon beyond that? arthas knew the legion would eventually come for azeroth, and his plan to kill everyone and make the scourge super powerful was half motivated by his own crazypants ideas and half because he’d decided that the best way to fight the legion was with a world unified in undeath under his rule. darion inherits this knowledge, and at least part of his rebuilding of icecrown is motivated with the legion’s eventual invasion in mind. he doesnt know when it will be, but he warns tirion that the legion will someday return, and at some point or another he probably set the cult of the damned (or what’s left of it at least) to attempting to find ways to un-plague things so the lands can be healed, just like the cenarion circle and argent dawn and earthen ring have been attempting to do.
this got really long, but i adore the idea of lich king darion? he has such a practical mentality most of the time, he’d try making the best of it, especially since he isnt saddled down with any more angst over being undead than he had before, and repairing the scourge and fixing things the scourge broke was the way he intended to atone Anyways.
but also, i leave you with this mental image: three lich kings’ worth of rage being brought down on kil’jaeden’s head when he invades azeroth. ner’zhul’s fury at being used and lied to lingering on as a memory within the lich king’s power. arthas’ despair and pain at failing to save his kingdom from ruin before he went mad and destroyed the rest of it himself. darion’s faith, that even when he’d never shown skill with it the light would guide him to set things right; and darion’s love, that he’d lay down his life without hesitation for the people he cares about.

I like the idea of this cosmic Q-like entity spent the entire time having a nice cup of tea with Shiro while testing the other paladins. Shiro: Should I be– Bob: Nah, you’re cool. Just enjoy the show.
new perfect headcanon.  Shiro never admits he’s aware of how things went down but he also now refuses to go play miniature golf with Pidge and someone that they can never track down sometimes leaves an Etch-A-Sketch in Black’s cockpit.  Black never tells who.
