I don't care what people say about phase four. To me, it was the most impactful phase the mcu has ever had. The producers, writers, creators, and directors did a phenomenal job portraying some of the many forms of grief. It's such a beautiful message to spread considering all that is going on in the world (Iran, Ukraine, u.s. mass shootings, the loss of abortion rights, ect. ). Sometimes, we can learn how to deal with our struggles better whilst escaping them.

Why did Haurchefant have to die? Interview Translation

I translated part of an interview with Yoshi-P and the two main scenario writers of HW, Ishikawa and Oda. It's about Haurchefant's character arc and why he had to be sacrificed. At least Oda tried to save him, bless his heart!

Interviewer: In 2.x, Haurchefant appeared to be a cheerful character, but in 3.0 his role takes a serious turn. What was the reason for this change?

Ishikawa: In the 2.x series I was in charge of his dialogue as the Character Concept designer, but in 2.55 I felt I had properly written down his important points and position in society, so I could hand him over to Oda and Maehiro for 3.0. Because of this I don’t think anything changed about him from the start; how he cares about his friend, or his essence as a knight.

Oda: I agonised over Haurchefant’s fate right until the very end… over and over I suggested plots in which he might somehow survive.

Yoshi-P: Those plots were too contrived; I couldn’t approve them! LOL In depicting this war between humans and dragons, I thought it was wrong to only have the dragons’ side experience loss after loss and not have the humans make any sacrifices. So that’s why I told them to properly decide the fate of every character. The fate of every character should have been decided early in the development phase of Patch 2.3. So Haurchefant’s fate was decided by then too, right?

Oda: Yes, that’s right. That’s why in Patch 2.4 and 2.5, when I wrote all his un-voiced lines, I was already doing so conscious of the fact that he would die later on.

Yoshi-P: Haurchefant is a character that is not just loved by players, but also loved by the development team. But since we decided on the plot twist where he would become the Warrior of Light's shield, we were prepared for the worst. Because of that we were able to write the Patch 2.5 scene, in the Falling Snows, where he reaches out to the Warrior of Light in his time of need. I think that such a long build-up led to the deep emotional impact of Haurchefant’s final moments. In that way, I think the deciding his fate early on was connected to how much importance he had to the story.

Oda: However, seeing how warmly players reacted to him, I feared that having Haurchefant lose his life would cause some players to quit the game forever, and fought desperately against it to the end…

Yoshi-P: He kept giving me re-takes of the plot where Haurchefant is able to come back to life, and eventually I remember getting quite mad at him. At one point, the 3.0 ending ceremony scene had Haurchefant appear in a wheelchair and I yelled “Hey, isn’t that the same as Thancred in ARR?!”. I’m pretty sure I shouted at him LOL

Found this old fic concept in my notes, I doubt I'll ever get around to writing it or that I could do it justice if I did, but it still makes me laugh so I wrote it up as a little blurb. Perhaps it will make you laugh too.

Mega Popstar Dream and Hob, his extremely non-famous celebrity crush

So in this universe Dream is an extremely famous musician. He's like Taylor Swift level of famous, if you walk up to any random person on the street they would know who he is. Meanwhile Hob is an actor but really not very well known, he was in a few small projects and is in the core cast of one TV show that's well-regarded but not super popular.

It's Dream's FAVORITE TV SHOW and Hob is his FAVORITE ACTOR that he's ferally OBSESSED WITH. Everyone knows about this too, Dream is really obvious about it. In interviews people will ask him what he likes and he's like "this is my favorite TV show" "have you seen Hob Gadling in that show isn't he incredible", They'll ask him if he has a celebrity crush (as a joke) and he's like "YES HOB GADLING 😍" like it's become a meme in Dream's fandom how much he has a crush on this random actor.

They've never met though, probably Dream was afraid to -- 'never meet your heroes' and all -- and never let his team book any overlapping events. So he's never seen Hob in person, only watched his favorite TV show 65 times in a row and memorized every inch of his face. Like a stalker.

So then a Buzzfeed-esque YouTube channel is running a special edition of their usual challenge show, "People Meet Their Celebrity Crush", except this time it's "CELEBRITIES Meet Their Celebrity Crush." Dream's entire team conspires against him to book him on this. Dream doesn't know what it is until the very moment since the whole point is to surprise people with their crush. Needless to say, Hob was REALLY dubious when the channel reached out like "do you want to come on as Dream's celebrity crush" but what's he gonna do say NO? say NO when Dream is so pretty and cute? So yeah he goes.

Anyway during the moment in the video when they revealed his celebrity crush to him -- aka Hob just looking like a totally normal and random guy -- Dream literally tripped over a chair and fell on the floor and then fainted. Instant meme and it became the thumbnail of the video. When Dream woke up to find Hob crouched by him all concerned asking if he was okay he nearly had a panic attack, he was never more flustered and nervous in his whole life not even performing for crowds of millions.

Hob fell in love instantly. He doesn't even know much about Dream, he hasn't even listened to Dream's music other than what's just playing ubiquitously on the radio all the time but all it took was watching Dream fall over a chair and then look up at him with his huge starry eyes and he was like 'This one's mine forever idc. I gotta protect this nerd he won't survive in the wild.'

Anyway they did start dating after that and Dream never leaves the honeymoon phase for the rest of his whole life, he truly thinks Hob is the most handsome man and best actor in the entire world and will tell anyone so at any opportunity, he goes around saying things like "see if you believe really hard you too can marry your celebrity crush 🥰" with zero irony, he might have skipped the Grammys to go to the premiere of season 3 of Hob's show (Hob didn't ask him to do that) (Dream won the Grammy but had more fun staring at Hob's face for 2 hours than he would have had at the awards show). Meanwhile Hob never talks about Dream in public because Dream already has negative 500% privacy in his life, he's extremely protective of him, and he allegedly punched one of the paparazzi in the face when they tried to take stealth shots at their wedding which was supposed to be a private affair. ALLEGEDLY. No charges were filed.

Dream did post one photo of the wedding on insta for his adoring fandom in which he described Hob as his knight in shining armor and then denied any knowledge of any 'alleged' events when asked about it in the future. Because Hob was so much more private about their relationship than Dream, for a while Dream's fandom had been like HOB DOESN'T DESERVE DREAM but after the (alleged) story about Hob punching someone in the face came out they were all obsessed with him. So that solved that problem.

(Despite Hob's efforts a paparazzi photo did come out of them the morning after the wedding, Hob sitting on the terrace drinking coffee, Dream sitting on his lap wearing Hob's shirt and looking thoroughly ravished. Dream might have framed it.)

Then they lived happily ever after. Dream put Hob in every one of his music videos regardless of whether it made sense for the story. Hob got one of Dream's songs put in his favorite TV show which made Dream's whole entire year. The end :)

It had been five months of blissful romance that the two had shared. She remembers the first day they had met dearly. Argenti bowed deeply with one hand behind him, the other gently pulling hers in to kiss the knuckles.

"By Idrila, you are a beauty like no other. Truly, you amaze me. Allow me to introduce myself, if I may. My name is Argenti, I belong to the Knights of Beauty. May this rose convey my heartfelt salutations."

The hand from behind his back appeared into view as he rose to his height, it held a single, thornless, red rose. The stem was cut at an angle, every petal perfectly in place.

Now, five months into this beautiful love, the honeymoon phase is yet to end. At every month's anniversary he writes her a poem, every time the roses in the vase wither he replaces them with fresh ones; always with a note, and every night he'd take off his armour to hold her the entire night. His arms were heavy from the strife he engages in, yet he is always as gentle as a petal swirling in the wind only to fall upon her figure.

Her dearest moments would be whenever he'd return home after work and head to wherever she is, setting aside his weapon, and pressing her into his arms. To Argenti she weighs nothing at all, akin to a feather of the most beautiful bird. And that is how he holds her, as she is precious to him, and her smile is worth more than anything else in existence. And every time he'd return he'd press her into his chest, strong arms clad in armour picking her up with ease, and spinning her around.

"Look at how beautiful you make the world, my love, my dearest. When you smile the world seems oh-so colorful. If I were to see a triple rainbow it would not compare to you."

She laughs as she wraps her arms around him and looks into his eyes, the world around them blurring through the motion. As if nothing else was worth seeing aside from each other. He'd gently put her down but not let go, bending to bury his head in her neck, soft cheek against her skin. His silky red hair would tickle her. But she doesn't mind in the slightest.

After an eternity in each others arms, which felt like less than a second, he'd take off his armour and get comfortable. The two would eat, talk about their day, consider adopting some sweet, small creature to keep her company in his absence. When evening would come he'd softly brush her hair, looking at her in the mirror, placing a kiss on her head. Then she would return the favour, brush his hair; and because he always allows it, braid it as well.

The next day he would be free, only to spend more time with her. To embrace her, speak sweetly with her, spin her around every chance he gets, play with her hair, treat her with sweet treats, kiss her forehead, anything to see those eyes of hers light up and those lips form a smile. And even when she is too tired for anything else, he looks at her like a unique masterpiece, a painting made by Idrila herself, and just sighs with hearts in his eyes, completely content.

The day after that he clutches a small box in his pocket he recently bought, after a long time of careful choosing. As he exits the door with a kiss to her cheek and closes the door... he pulls out the box and examines the ring inside.

"Soon, my dearest. You make me the happiest. I hope I can forever have that smile in my life."
