Who I Am

Tell us about your family My precious family consists of my wonderful husband, Johnny Stone, and two little terriers, Ringo and Lyric. I am also a Church Staff Kid, both my mom and other father worked in different roles in the church, and that seems to be the perfect background for being on Christian radio. Where their members complain about the air conditioning and color of the carpet, our listeners complain about something we said or the Singing Rubber Chickens, Harley and Gnarley with a G! It certainly prepared me for a life of service.

How long have you been in radio I have been in radio since 1993. Christian radio since 2000. Give us your radio timeline We have been blessed to work with some amazing ministries! But I started out in Country radio in my hometown of DFW on Young Country 105.3. Went from there to ABC Radio Networks, then KLUV and made the jump to Christian radio working in Chicago at The Fish. Took off 11 months to take care of my grandmother in her final months then moved to New York Metro and joined Johnny on STAR 99.1. After 8 years on air there, moved to Tucson to be on Family Life Radio network and four years later God called us to Washington, DC to WGTS 91.9. We have been on air here for four years and hope to have many more! In addition to your role at WGTS, what else are you juggling? When God moved us to afternoons in 2013, Johnny and I decided that I would go back to school and get a Master’s in Professional Counseling. I finished in 2016 and I have a private practice in Maryland early in the morning and on Saturdays. I am also the author of “The Rescued Breed” and working on my next book, “You Poor Thing!” If you let Him, God will make room in your life for whatever you dream that fits His Will. I love helping others on the radio, in writing and on video from my home office now. Words of encouragement for other ladies in radio Show up and tell them about Jesus! I see so many women in radio that are balancing work, marriage, parenting and other things and I admire them so much. My best piece of advice would be to keep going! Whatever God called you to do in this life, just put one foot in front of the other and keep moving. God has blessed Johnny and I with amazing positions at WGTS 91.9 and it is because we kept going on days when we did not think we could.

Can you recommend a book that is encouraging to you? I have recently read Please Sorry Thanks: The Three Words that Change Everything from Mark Batterson and a Bible study on Luke with Lisa Harper. Johnny and I are listening to Jonah Berger’s Magic Words

Anything else you want to share Please reach out and encourage a younger version of yourself. We need that next generation more than you know and I am so glad to be at the point in my career where I am looking at what I can give instead of what I can get. When you focus on others and encourage them, you get out of your own head. For me, that makes a world of difference and I know that they will be here when we are long gone, reaching back for that next generation after them.
