Exasperated that the round I'm trying to source is popularly credited to a 19th c. Welsh composer that - according to any authoritative source I can find listing his compositions - did not write it (also this dude was apparently known for composing lyrical pieces in Cymraeg. Rwy'n ei barchu.), and the most popular attestation I can find to the round is thru the Girl Scouts of America "in the 1960s", no songbook of which I can easily find online that gives authorial or composition credit to the tune.
Nuisance, really.

for what it's worth, altho I knew the band's and song's reputation beforehand (bc I was a teenager living in America during the millennium) the first time I actually heard Welcome to the Black Parade was in 2017.
at which point I immediately grabbed my phone and texted my girlfriend "I get it now. MCR is the band the studios are grooming to replace Rush once they finish dying."
I’m a little upset because my husband (stressed out little Englishman, old as balls) had never heard Welcome to the Black Parade. What do you mean you’ve never. Like never heard it ever. You’ve heard it, though?? and it turned out that - NO.
And he said: well i wasn’t an American child during the millennium or indeed at any point in my existence now was I? So of course I had to explain about welcome to the black parade, I mean, REALLY. Really? Really!
Anyway unbeknownst to me it CLICKED for him and he liked it in quite a normal, I-will-hear-that-song-again way and he added it to his playlist of what he fondly believes to be similar-sounding songs, which in context affected me like a blow to the back of the head. Sir; your brain. Explain it to me please.
And he was like wdym. Sounds like Queen.
And the thing is. If you are a virgin to MCR and don’t give a damn about anyone or anything and you’re a highstrung little guy who is not an American and is a million years old, and if you spent your ENTIRE teens in a healthy outdoors attitude of underage drinking and smoking and banging other teens on unsupervised hiking trips while being attacked by swans, and other worldly and mentally healthy adventures that did NOT involve being on the internet too young, so that you genuinely wouldn’t know who Gerard Way was if he leapt out from behind a mailbox and bit you suddenly;
If MCR means nothing to you at all, net zero context, net zero interest, genuinely no nostalgia or cringe or judgement or admiration because you are NORMAL,
fuck me. Sure. It DOES - fuck me: okay. You win this Dr Glass. It does - yeah actually you’re right. It’s - it sounds like Queen.

and, like, due to cultural diffusion it's now pretty difficult to suss out to origin if many old pieces, especially ones that are considered "traditional", "folk", and (contemporarily) "children's" songs, but related to prev post at least the claim that John Hilton the Younger (1599-1657) is the writer and composer from which the modern children's tune "Come Follow Me (to the Redwood Tree)" (alt. "to the Green-wood") is derived is at least plausible. Hilton was famously a composer of part-songs and catches (a type of round) and while I've been unable to find a direct line of attribution so far I do suspect there is a genuine connecting thread there or if there isn't that the person who first claimed there is was at least lying convincingly.

New life gila goal (I liked that typo too much to remove it)
- Become pro musician
- Get famous enough for radio play
- Create only lyrics with non-FCC language, requiring censorship for every track (F the CC, amirite?)
- Adamantly insist on a contract clause with my studio that radio edits be bowdlerised differently based on region
- Don't tell anyone; let fans figure out how deep the rabbit hole goes on their own
- During live shows, get audience to sing along w/their local edit for maximum chaos
- Peace and **** on planet earth <3

Worth it. Also iirc I think I prefer his cover of Suspicious Minds to Elvis'
Why didn't I checked out Dwight Yoakam sooner? Sarah Shook literally namedropped him in one of her songs. That's like a recommendation in a whiskey glass right there.

I like music quite a lot but I'm not always good at the pop/alt stuff so my first real exposure to vampire weekend was in april of last year (2022), when I heard one of their songs playing in the lobby of the hotel where I had to quarantine before returning home. Obvs that was not an ideal location and it was very difficult to hear most of the lyrics and doubly obvs shazam-like tools were entirely unhelpful. Anyhow, there was a repeated phrase that I could make out so I decided to type in "I don't want to live like this but I don't want to die lyrics" and friends lemme tell ya it took THREE more permutations of search terms before google gave me anything other than a big splash for the Irish suicide prevention hotline phone number.
Anyhow, that was my introduction to Harmony Hall (2019) and it's been earworm in my head for a almost a week as of today

Ave Maria, Hail Mary full of grace
Kicking your can all over the place
Blessed are you among women
Barely breathing, minus human
Give me your leather, take from me my lace
