-Sage has binged Avatar The Last Airbender many times and takes inspiration from Katara

-Jett has a hidey hole full of other agents' belongings. Yoru’s knives, Phoenix’s shoes, Cyphers hat (sometimes)

-Yoru has tried time travelling, Phoenix jokes about it all the time

-When someone has a bad day, cypher watches over them over the camera to make sure they aren't doing anything bad to themself

-Yoru gives haircuts and is actually good, but he keeps yapping while using his different knives

-Gekko sings creep by radiohead in the shower when he's sad and Neon films from outside the door and jokes about it

-Omen gets too much candy due to being treated as a trick or treater

um no one asked but here’s some Val hcs I have:

killjoy knits and crochets, I like to think she learned this from a coworker at kingdom cause I think she’s a very creative person but can’t take a break for the life of her so crocheting and knitting is her way to be like all technical and stuff but take a nice break bc those activities (CAN BE) very relaxing

Raze can cook an amazing meal! I think she’s great at cooking and makes these beautifully looking and tasting meal however I think she struggles with baking since with cooking she does what I call the Asian way of cook; she just goes with the vibes of the meal and gets the right ratios every time but baking is like a fine delicate art so like as much as she tries she just cannot bake.

Sova bakes like a fucking master this man will and can bake anything he’s like “oh you want this really intricate baked good? I gotchu” and makes it. like wtf

He’s also not a natural blonde he actually has black brownish hair (it’s either a brownish black or a very very dark brown that looks black sometimes) and on this note he helps all the agents dye their hair when asked like he normally helps jett but sometimes gekko is lazy and asks for help, neon asks for help with the underdye she has, sometimes he helps yoru and fade too!

Phoenix gifts people cologne and perfume I have no reasoning for this other than I think it’s funny but he means it very well and gets the most fitting scents for everyone

sage cannot keep a plant alive for the life of her. She tries to hard but they all keep on dying some how. she gets distraught about it because everyone assumes she can and gets her plants but she can’t.

Skye regularly holds wood carving lessons at the protocol, all agents have stopped by at least once and she keeps everyone’s first attempt. Breach, Gekko, Killjoy, Raze, and Omen are the most frequent.

Yoru is very good at styling hair and will always give a hand to his fellow agents if needed, albeit reluctantly and constantly complaining. Sage and Skye don’t hear his complaints though.

Astra is pretty much the protocols 2nd mother. As much as everyone jokes sage is the mom, Astra does her part in watching over everyone! She helps out with minimal tasks, offers help to everyone, checks up on people and makes sure they’re doing alright, yells at people to take breaks (cypher, killjoy, sage, brimstone), keeps up a positive and lovely atmosphere and keeps everyone in line when needed!

K/AYO holds a game night every thursday night for everyone! Usually board games, sometimes video games. He has written very specific rules including: no playing Mario kart, Uno, and sorry. Monopoly is fine as long as no one gets into a fight. (He def has more, but these are the ones in BOLD)

Sova, Skye, and breach go on morning jogs together regularly! Others are free to join them! Fade and Deadlock tend to join them every now and then.

Deadlock and Sova r very much sibling energy but on a more chill level.

Gekko’s crew helps around the base a BUNCH. Wingman helps sage a lot, dizzy helps in the kitchen, thrash helps at the range, and mosh is very much emotional support.

On that note Jett and Neon ask jokingly for a therapist to be hired, Brimstone actually considers it every time because some people here are concerning then turns it down due to it being a security hazard.

Brimstone has a little box for people to put requests into: these requests can be about anything. Raze has asked for a free for all or team death match style of paintball! Viper, kj, cypher, and breach always ask for more equipment. Some agents ask for hobby stuff, trips, or group bonding. He goes through them every week and if it’s urgent like fixing something, they normally tell him or sage straight up.

Everyone in the protocol don’t really talk about their past, like ever. However, if the moment is right, they’ll drop a bomb to make a story or lesson really stick. Sova dropped the fact he has 5 sisters when Jett and Phoenix got into a fight and he had to tell them to quit it or else he’d make them hand write apologies together and stick them into a shirt like his sisters did to him and his younger sister. silly stuff like that nothing serious yk.

Also on the note of Sova (can you tell hes on of my favs) I don’t think he HATES cypher, just dislikes the fact he’s so secretive yet will through out information about others. He feels as if it’s hypocritical and dislikes this. idk if I explained this very well and can go more into detail it’s kinda fun I like cyberowl a lot !!

Harbor also realllyyy likes pottery, he’s a historian yk and sees a bunch of artifacts and pots that are from decades ago. He’s learned how to replicate and learned how respective periods made their pots/anything else clay related!! he’s very much into historical accuracy of how artistic things are made (ie paintings, clothes, pottery, and more)

Im half awake so the harbor one is a little wild but yeah if u want more lmk I got plenty.

The MCU depowers a lot of heroes and villains, but I don't think anyone has had it worse than Thor. And when I say depowered, I don't mean he's slightly weaker or his lightning is weaker, they got rid of all his funky hammer stuff! Like in the Avengers when he spun his hammer so fast he teleported the Avengers, Black Knight and the Melter into an alternate dimension:

Or how about when Jane Foster was dying and Thor couldn't save her in time, so he spun Mjolnir so fast time stopped:

Or! How about when he beat the Absorbing Man by spinning Mjolnir so fast he fused hydrogen atoms into helium atoms!!

If this was enough to transform Absorbing Man, but the air wasn't enough to turn him into nitrogen, that would mean Thor had to make more helium atoms than nitrogen atoms around Absorbing Man. If he was surrounded by 10 moles of air (a pretty small estimate), Thor would need to make around 8 moles of helium, causing an explosion releasing 2.88x10^12 KJ of energy to be released. This is about 688,336.5 tons of TNT. That's a pretty big explosion. But don't worry! Thor can survive it!

He lets the US Military test nuclear bombs on him sometimes. For fun I guess.

HELLO this ask has been sitting in my inbox since january sorry..its mostly bc i have sooo many things 2 talk about and i wasnt sure what i wanted 2 say in this answer but whatever im just gonna ramble SO!!! U get a bunch of random hcs and maybe thematic analysis yippee!! and thank u soo much for the kind words :]

imo all the kjs have some form of body focused repetitive behavior because this is my world and i do what i want.. poison and ghoul have dermatillomania (compulsive skin picking), and kobra and jet have trich (hair pulling) maybe. I think constantly being on the run + adrenaline highs and lows would lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms for all of them and desert living leads 2 pretty shit skin (poison+kobra have at least had bad acne for sure) which is conducive to skin picking..i think the venom siblings and ghoul are bat city runaways too so the withdrawal from bli pills (+shakes and sweats) contributed to them developing bfrbs.

ghoul also gets really bad shakes and jitters from withdrawal, so when it gets so bad that they can’t work on their explosives he blasts mad gear as loud as it can from its speakers and lets himself scream all the frustration out.

also ghoul definitely has hearing loss from bomb detonation in too close proximity. tell me it would know abt proper hearing protection safety protocols with a straight face its impossible.

kobra was born w microform cleft lip, which means he has a little deformity/groove in his upper lip kind of similar to a snake’s . also he broke his nose at some point and it healed wrong so crooked nosebridge↴

both jet and kobra are prone to migraines bc of eye strain and sensitivity (jet is nearly fully blind in his right eye and both kobras eyes are extremely sensitive to light, hence the sunglasses).

sometimes when the migraines are too much they both lie down in the trans am seats together at night and close their eyes and breathe in the dark

prior to jets eye injury they were the teams best marksman, and im not sure yet how greatly that changes after they lose depth perception, but one thing i like to believe is that jet is also a great sniper (stereoscopic vision due to retinal disparity is also only effective up til about 30 meters too so he wouldnt need to rely on binocular vision for that), so maybe they focuse on that skill post-injury. how i picture their scar ↴

this is so long already but 1 last thing more in a thematic analysis vein: i need ppls opinions on the girl and her story PLEASE. she has so little agency in the canon narrative but . Where r the girlposters around here i need to hear others thoughts on her guilt complex from the fab 4s sacrifice and her running away from her own role as the protagonist of a story she never wanted 2 be part of and her blowing up the city that killed her family and whether or not that alleviated her neuroses and brought catharsis or not and her characterisation as a literal bomb and destructive force even though shes just a kid and ughhh. Linking this girl post i made a while ago w an anne carson quote that makes me crazy ANYWAYS. Talk 2 me about her. Im begging.

i'm not gonna reblog this post because it is overall quite good and i just have a nitpick with this part but actually the way the body processes food is pretty much combustion. like it produces CO2 and water from hydrocarbons. that's all combustion is.

food (kilo)calories are also just a measure of energy present in the food. you'll notice if you go to europe that the big label at the top of nutrition facts says Energy and not Calories. but actually, all levels on nutrition facts are theoretical; you are not going to necessarily absorb all the iron, protein, or ascorbic acid in the food either, but the amount present there is still labeled.

a calorie is defined as the measure of energy it takes to heat 1 g of water up 1 degree celsius. why we use that (x1000) to measure food calories is because a number of foods are mostly water, and so are you, but your body is of course measured in kg so it's useful to use kcal. also calorimetry measures energy of complete combustion by the change in temperature of water surrounding the combustion; many bond dissociation energies are reported in kcal/mol still rather than kJ/mol. we use bomb calorimeters because if we don't allow the internal volume to change, we can get a more accurate estimate of bond dissociation energy. calorimetry is not a hack nutritionist's plot against you, but simply the best measure we have of measuring the energy present in materials. we cannot know exactly what's in food structurally or even chemically, so we can't run molecular dynamics simulations to estimate the energies present in catabolism.

now, are energies measured by bomb calorimetry misleading as to how your body processes food? yes. your body does perform combustion on anything it can break down into glucose and co., but it doesn't necessarily perform complete combustion. some small amounts of carbon monoxide are produced in the digestive tract due to this, even! it depends on the type of food you eat how completely it combusts. for example, if you eat a tablespoon of sugar, it'll probably be processed into almost all the calories, whereas if you eat a tablespoon of rye with the same amount of theoretical glucose, it probably won't. this is a significant gripe i have with the quote unquote health food industry, actually- a lot of things are estimated as having higher amounts of accessible calories than they really have, so people end up calorie-cutting by labels in order to diet but then it's compounded by the fact that a number of the calories are entirely inaccessible. so if you calorie-cut to 1600 kcal/day but you're only eating fruits, vegetables, ancient grains, and lean meat, you're probably processing those "1600 kcal" into 1300 or less kcal!

but kilocalories aren't the only misleading thing on food labels, and while eyeballing nutrition facts can help you get enough of essential nutrients like vitamin A and K and the like, in many cases it won't be in the most easily accessible form, so you might malnourish yourself. iron is a big problem here, and why i recommend impossible foods so much to people who are vegetarian and especially vegan; heme is one of the few types of iron that the human body can process, so that impossible foods contain it without being meat makes them extremely important to a non-iron-supplemented vegetarian diet. anyway, digression aside, are the beauty and food industries intentionally being misleading about how accurate kcal are? almost certainly. is the utilization of the kilocalorie (and bomb calorimetry generally) for measurement of energy in foods due to this? almost certainly not.

(P.S.: if you'd like to know why your body isn't constantly on fire due to the fact that you're combusting all the time, that would be because thermodynamics of combustion (a reaction where the products are ludicrously heavily favored) are distinct from the kinetics of combustion commonly (in the atmosphere with so much available oxygen, the rate laws dictate that combustion goes really fast. in your body with enzymatic processes, it goes fairly slowly). everything that can combust is combusting, just very slowly, from paper to gas to sugar- if you leave glucose out in the air, it'll slowly slowly slowly burn even without heat applied; the enzymes in your body get over that initial heat/energy barrier, though, and burn it quicker. however, since there's no continual heat applied, it won't set off a chain chemical reaction and burn very quickly unless something's extremely wrong with your body. eat your antioxidants)

“No offense Chamber but this doesn’t look like it’s working.” You cackled as he buried his face into his hands. Throughout the whole day you were on a mission to tick him off as much as possible. Why? Well..

“What annoys you the most Vincent? Phoenix asking for guns maybe?” You asked, curious as to what truly pushed his buttons. I mean don’t get me wrong, he was always uptight. It was just another one of the things you liked about him. Not that you would ever tell him, you would feed into that huge ego of his. 

 “I don’t get annoyed. Don’t try it.” Chamber continued eating and writing on his tablet. “Yeah okay IPad kid.. Sure you don’t.” Rolling your eyes at his pinched face. This was going to be way more difficult than you thought. “Whatever you are thinking it won’t work.” His voice cut through the air again and you smirked. “Okay Chamber. See you later.” As you peddled away you could hear the loud sigh from the kitchen.

“Well he’s always interested in his work. Maybe you can fuck with him while he’s at it?” Raze continued tinkering with her bombs as KJ cut in. “Why don’t you ask to see headhunter? Bet you could embarrass him that way. Say it looks small or something, that always hurts a guys ego.” You all laughed as you continued planning for the future ‘Annoy Chamber Day’.

The next morning you had caught Chamber in the lab with KJ. She looked at the door and winked. “Chamber there’s something I need to do with Raze in here until about four. Would you be a dear and come back later? You can go help Y/N instead!” She pointed towards you as you waved. Chamber’s eyebrow went up in suspicion but didn’t say anything. “Yes. I shall see you later.” He picked up his coat and made his way over. “Let us make haste ma belle.” 

“Why on earth are you trying to make a gun. What is this?” He held up the fake decoy KJ had given you. His disgusted face had said it all. “It’s my gun of course Vin!” You could only hold back a laugh as you made your way closer to him to show him the gun. “See there’s the trigger-“ He grabbed the decoy and threw it into the trash. “Oh no.. Ça n’a aucun sens.” You watched as his gold accents materialized into his gun. 

“You see this? This is a gun. If you truly want to learn how to make one today I will try to help but please don’t make whatever that was again.” You nodded along, hand trailing over the cold metal. “But this is small. I want a big gun..” You could visibly see his eye twitch at the comment. “Well it’s a small little toy until you are shot through the head my dear.” You could tell the comment bothered him a bit and you were getting closer to mission completed.

Chamber had been spending what felt like hours going over each part of the gun after that. You felt as if this little plan had backfired and being shot through the head was a better option than the boredom you were being subjected to. “Then there’s the Vandal which is better at further range. You can headshot with it and-“ “No offense Chamber but this doesn’t look like it’s working.” You weren’t wrong. His information had gone through one ear and out the other. As much as you loved the excited look on his face it couldn’t be helped.

Sitting the gun aside you stood above the man. His wide eyes gleamed back at yours as you trailed along his silky suit. “You know I was trying to annoy you today. All I got instead was a lesson on gun safety and well.. whatever I can make of what’s left.” You smirked and tapped his jawline. He abruptly stood up and grabbed your wrist.

“Oh my dear I think you misunderstand. You are not making anything, we both saw how much of a disaster that was. Why don’t we leave the heavy work to me, huh?” Your knees wobbled as his hands roamed your body. His grip on you only became harsher as he leaned down to capture your lips in a heated kiss.

“I did tell you.. you can’t annoy me. But I will take my sorry present for wasting my time mon amour.”

KJ has a considerable amount of thinks she likes, example music and hockey but a lot of books and portraits, probably insinuating focus on her responsibilities with studying and family. Her room is extremely organized and simple, giving an impression of control and her mother wakes her up friendly ans calls her sweetheart.

you've probably answered this before, but do you have tips for valorant beginners? does watching pro matches help at all? do you recommend any good YouTube tutorials or good starter agents? I've tried playing casually before and wasn't that hood but now my roommates into it and want me to play and I don't want totally suck 😭

anonie you are talking to a bronze 3 player i am by no means good in the slightest but i will try!

watching pros - no not at all really, unless for very specific agents for lineups (kj, viper, brimstone) i would say very little use. for agents with smokes or lineups, maybe slight help to see where you can put your abilities for good use, but still not needed and if you are really keen then just look up agent lineups on certain maps. but even that id reccomend only when youve played for a little bit

starter agents - sage is a great one everyone always reccomends for a reason. easy abilities, easily helpful, everyone will like you as long as you heal them when you can and its just a bonus if you get kills. i played sova a lot to start with, which id say is pretty easy too. brimstone also pretty simple, just smoke off anywhere the other team might camp, when entrying or protecting the bomb

more than anything i would just reccomend playing and having fun, no better practise than playing the game to start with. play some unranked if you're nervous, less pressure! i play team deathmatch to get an idea and muck about with abilities while in a game with zero stakes, might be an idea if you want to try out some agents and find some you like!

Detonations being measured in mass of TNT "1 kton" is such a dumb unit. It's legacy from when TNT was actually used regularly, it doesn't explain anything to anyone who hasn't seen it for scale, and it's almost always used to compare big explosions. Like, I know Hiroshima was like 16 kton. From that I have a rough vague idea of 1 ton, etc. But basically the legacy now is "relative to Hiroshima". And in any case, the unit is based off the metric system so isn't even the "tons of TNT" Americans would have used then. It's even more useless than "horsepower", which at least stays at a standard scale people interact with regularly. "This car is 300 horsepower" is big compared to other car that you've driven at 200 horsepower. (0 to 60 is a much better scale, of course). But how many of us have actually seen a kg of TNT go off?

As a side note, you can basically estimate all chemical reactions using organics release about the energy of TNT. 1 gram of TNT releases 4.184 kJ. This is exactly equal to the kilocalorie. 1 gram of TNT releases as much energy as 1 gram of sugar (burned). It just does so way, way faster. It's why they were able to use the sugar as a bomb in The Martian, by suspending the grains in 0-g with pure oxygen. And it's why flour exosions are so dangerous.

But it raises the intriguing possibility of describing nuclear bomb yields in calories. 1 kton of TNT is equal to 1 teracalorie. The Tsar Bomba had a yield of 50 petacalories.

For the past few days, the agents tried to hold their composure but that didn’t take long for the only punching bag in the HQ broke as the Cypher and KJ pulled all nighter to fix this and tried to limit these heathens movement, from changing all of the skin collections to default, make a fake crashing every time they want to queue for compe (Ruining y/n’s hard work? Not gonna happen), when they tried to import their crosshair and settings the game crashed and it would go back to (y/n) usual settings . When the agents found out that (y/n)’s account was about to get auctioned on some sketchy website. That was their very last straw.

But right before they post the account to the auctioning site , their computers crashed. Blue screen for a long time. When they tried to booted up the CPU, it didn’t turn on for days. They tried every single method in a book and video tutorials. Then suddenly it turned on, but before it showing his desktop, the background was plain black with a red pop up that says

“Throwing your rotten unforgiving ass to hell is simply too merciful. May you two suffer the consequences”

When those two hackers logged in to the things they used for their hustle was unavailable, the money in their bank account was wiped clean, their hustle’s reports were gone, but as they kept clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking on other things. Some private information about them began to show on the screen, covering the things they wanted to do. From IP address, bank details, their ID, where they worked, when was the last time their presence was caught on security cameras, their embarrassing facts about those two, and many more. Until the last nail in the coffin was a recent police report for cybercrime along with a recorded phone conversation.

*Beep*

“Hello this is the internet crime complaint center, This is xxxxxxxx speaking”

“Why yes, I would like to file a report for a cybercrime?”

“Alright then, when did the cybercrime happen?”

“A few days ago, a couple of young men called me and said I need to change my windows software. They checked my computer and said I might need an upgrade for $3800. Next day, when i checked my bank account, i don’t have any money left”

“Okay, did you call the bank?”

“I did”

“Alright, may I know your name so that we can update you?”

“No need”

“Why?”

From that the caller told the hackers was, their whole personal data is now at the hands of the authority. They were doomed.

Meanwhile, (y/n) spend their times to contacting the customer service. But waiting for the reply was agonizing. They already spend real life money on that account, now it’s all gone??? Just like that???? When their notifactions rang, they immediately checked it and there it was a legitimate email from Riot telling that their account was safe, all they needed to do was to change the password. (y/n) immediately filled the password, logged in and they screamed in joy. Some of the agents also screamed when they saw (y/n) again and some were sighed in relief. Now, (y/n) would take extra care of their account. Although now they have more VP than ever before and for the past few days, the shop's selection was (y/n)’s favorite skin for half the price was odd. But who knows? Also an article about two hackers got caught thanks to an anonymous tip? Huh.. strange

hi your riptide / killjoys thing sounds SO FUCKING SICK please tell me about it

prefacing this by saying i havent finished riptide im on ep50 ok evverything else i know is gathered from fics and from my dash so if it doesnt properly line up with backstories FUCK YOU DONT TELL ME YET. also im using a ton of kj fanon slang bc its what im used to, if you dont know what a phrase means just ask. ok anyway

the factions honestly line up pretty well?? the navy is BLind, the pirates are killjoys. high ranking navy officers like jays family are crows and exterminators. the boats are cars, the undersea is like.. maybe the lobby. tritons are droids for the sake of this ok (not often seen out in the zones, have a wildly different culture, etc) because i diid NOT want to have to worldbuild an entire faction of like. goddamn radiation mutants since the reason nobody can leave the zones is bc its surrounded by a fucking killzone. alright. so we're doing droids

whether or not chip is sandpup or cityborn is kinda irrelevant - he ends up out in the ones real fuckin early regardless and gets picked up by the black rose crew etc etc. but they get caught in a REAL bad clap with crows and he just has to fucking leg it and pray. that OR theyre cauht in the bombing of zone7 idk i havent listened to the oneshot and i dont believe in factchecking. whichever works. he ends up stuck in the zones, alone, at a way too fucking young age and nobody ELSE wats some ittle kid dragging them down so he ends up in the lobby and makes it work there instead. he has something to do with juvie halls? i dont know enough canon backstory to say much more but yeah. he falls in with tthem until he meets JAY!!

ferin family = scarecrows thats fairly obvious. higherups in BLind get benefits so shes never been on their meds (this helps out in the desert with being a better shot, bc she has no withdrawal shakes. same with drey) and just like. generally is allowed more freedom. but obviously with this freedom she realises BLind fucking SUCKS and somthing something her sister was a crow and died etc etc. also i think ava wouldve been fairly known in the city for being on BLind broadcasts. jay too maybe because i think chip teasing her for it is funny, and because obviously crows use fake names so the "ferin" name would be less known than her appearance. she visits the lobby fairly regularly but doesnt have the guts to leave until she meets chip

GILLION THOUGH. since im using droids we're Going to pretend here that in my version of kjs there are sentient droids that ARENT SEXBOTS. OK. WE'RE PRETENDING THOSE ARE A THING. he was probably a sentry or guard or something. robots are autistic so this tracks. but he gets kicked out of his post for some fucking reason and ends up just kind of. aimless in the lobby. he becomes VERY invested in the preachings of destroya. at some point, after jay and chip have left, he somehow manages to get out by himself and collapses in the sand in zone one which is how chip and jay find him. also ive yet to decid how to handle the plus addiction thing since thats. not really a topic that comes up in riptide. ill think on it maybe

um other than that.. as for names im . well gillion tidestrider sunds like a kj name its insane and punny enough. i have a lot of naming convention hcs that i cant explain concisely but ill just say chip only having a first name makes sense despite kj names being 2-3 words typically. jay im totally stumped on though bc girl she HAS to change her name and it should really follow the two word format and again. she cannot keep her last name bc anyone from the city would recognise the ferin name. so theres that. yeah thats all i got hiiii i will make this better when i catch up i promise
