Art and Empathy.
How can I understand what romance is, but not feel romantic attraction? Visit a modern art gallery. Go with an open mind. Go honestly—not in character, not on display. Go as you, not as someone trying to impress your cultured friends or your cynical friends.
If you can do that, then you absolutely will see, touch, or hear things that strike you as beautiful and even thrilling, even if you can’t explain why. Those are what friends or family or community feel like to me as an aromantic person.
But if you’re honest—and not putting on a performance to fit in—then sooner or later you will round a corner in the gallery and see, touch, or hear something that you know is profound and beautiful, but that doesn’t stir anything in you other than confusion or maybe even discomfort. This is what romance feels like to me as an aromantic person.
And it gets worse. Imagine you’re there with friends, and they’re all excited about the piece that does nothing for you—they recognize the artist, they know the backstory, they comment on its historical importance and its influence in other art—and suddenly you feel the urge to say “Oh yeah. Mmm. Totally.” Why? Because you know you enjoyed some other abstract art, so clearly this piece is just more complicated and will take time to grow on you. That’s what it was like for me in my mid 20s when I understood and loved friendship, community, and my causes, but romantic love was a black box, and everyone else was singing its praises.
[And that’s how to turn leftover vacation photos into a little empathy science-kit.]

hi Lim
I hope you’re doing well, having a nice weekend. Here’s a nice ask…
I love knave verse, but I feel incredibly clueless when it comes to art. So, where would you recommend starting for someone that would just like to appreciate art more? Do you have a favourite artist? Are they the same?
- Kit 🖤
Firstly, thank you so much. I'm so flattered you love knave-verse.
Secondly - art.
Okay, so first thing I'll say is don't get hung up on who or what you're supposed to like. The only thing that's important is if the art makes you feel something. Hi, yes, a lot of the things TK says are things that I think. (shocking! I know ;)
Second thing, art isn't just a thing that hangs on a wall - it's photography, and sculpture, and graffiti, and comics, and fans, and tea cups, and the things people wore, and the buildings they built. Art is everywhere around you. You don't have to go to a museum to see it or appreciate it.
Third thing, most major cities have an art museum (and so do most large universities), and most of them offer free entrance to the public either once a week or once a month - and if they don't try your local library to see if they have museum passes you can check out. Then - just go to a museum. Don't go with anything in particular in mind, just wander. Walk past the things that don't do anything for you, stop and read the placard on the things that snag your attention. Turn left when you see a color that grabs you.
Wander through all the different galleries. What turns me on isn't necessarily going to be be what turns you on - my parents like seascapes and 17th C Japanese screens a lot more than I do. I like Sargent and Islamic calligraphy more than they do. Rothko leaves me cold, but one of my best friends can spend hours looking at his work.
Google what museums are in your area. The big art museums will be survey museums - a little bit of everything. But, smaller museums will be specific. There's a museum to the history of the shoe in Toronto (it's amazing - if you're in Toronto you should go - the whole building is shaped like a shoe box!).
Fourth thing, try just scrolling through tags on tumblr marked for art, and follow people who post things you like.
I found the Urban lego thing on tumblr and Georgie Seccull was also a tumblr discovery, and I have never wanted to get on a plane to Australia more. I found Anila Quayyum Agha when I saw some of her art on display at a mall in Chicago and was immediately obsessed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, I think, lastly - if you're still reading - just have fun with it. Don't pressure yourself about it, just kind of relax into it. Art is personal, and there's no right or wrong answer.

Upcycling and Repurposing: Giving New Life to Old Furniture and Decor
In a world where sustainability and creativity are increasingly valued, upcycling and repurposing old furniture and decor have become popular ways to breathe new life into tired items while reducing waste. Instead of discarding old pieces, consider transforming them into something beautiful and functional. Here are some ideas for upcycling and repurposing old furniture and decor:
Tumblr media
1. Furniture Restoration: Give old furniture a fresh look by sanding, painting, or staining it. You can also replace worn-out upholstery or hardware to rejuvenate the piece and match it to your current decor style.
2. Creative Storage Solutions: Repurpose old crates, suitcases, or baskets into unique storage solutions. Stack crates to create shelving units, turn suitcases into bedside tables, or hang baskets on the wall for stylish organization.
3. Salvaged Wood Projects: Use salvaged wood from old furniture or pallets to create new pieces. Build a rustic coffee table, a reclaimed wood headboard, or a set of shelves for a charmingly weathered look.
4. Upcycled Lighting: Turn old jars, bottles, or metal cans into pendant lights or table lamps. Add a coat of paint or embellishments to match your decor, and install a lighting kit to complete the transformation.
Tumblr media
5. Vintage Textile Crafts: Repurpose vintage linens, such as tablecloths, napkins, or curtains, into new home decor items. Sew them into pillow covers, tote bags, or wall hangings for a touch of nostalgia and charm.
6. Garden Art: Transform old garden tools, pots, or even furniture into whimsical garden art. Paint colorful designs on old shovels or rakes, repurpose ceramic pots into planters, or turn an old bench into a focal point for your outdoor space.
7. Picture Frame Gallery: Repurpose old picture frames into a gallery wall or decorative display. Paint frames in coordinating colors, fill them with family photos or artwork, and arrange them creatively on a wall for a personalized touch.
8. Furniture Fusion: Combine different pieces of old furniture to create something entirely new. For example, attach a vintage door to a set of drawers to make a unique entryway table, or repurpose a ladder into a bookshelf by adding shelves between the rungs.
9. Eco-Friendly Crafts: Get creative with eco-friendly materials like cork, cardboard, or newspaper to make handmade decor items. Create coasters from cork scraps, weave baskets from newspaper strips, or build sculptures from recycled cardboard.
10. Personalized Upcycling: Let your imagination run wild and personalize your upcycling projects to suit your taste and style. Whether you're adding a coat of paint, repurposing materials, or embellishing with unique details, make each piece your own.
Tumblr media
By upcycling and repurposing old furniture and decor, you can create one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect your personality, reduce waste, and add character to your home.

Sustainable Packaging Paper
Tumblr media
The product I decided to redesign is a pack of 15 paintbrushes that are in a blister pack, all laid side by side. It is an enormous amount of plastic for just a few paintbrushes, and while I understand it makes them easier to see, it is really only vital to see the shape of the brushes themselves, not the entire handle. My solution to the problem is recycled cardboard packaging, but also more in the form of a colored pencil case, where the brushes are grouped together tightly in rows, instead of laid out flat.
Although the original product is a pack of craft paintbrushes for kids, I have decided to design my paintbrushes for adult fine artists, mostly because I just did a kid’s project, and I wanted to branch out. But I can also see an adult audience being more aware of sustainability and quality when it comes to packaging, whereas the kids aren’t looking for this. Fine Artists especially, are more concerned about the environment. Artists, art collectors, and galleries are all becoming more conscious of their environmental impact, starting groups like the Gallery Climate Coalition (NYTimes).
Researching further into this demographic, fine artists are 59.9% female (Zippa). Although this is a majority, I don’t think it’s too major of a divide to design for solely females. Therefore, my audience will be across all genders. Additionally, 47% of fine artists are 40 years old and above (Zippa). This also informs the design because it needs to be more classic than trendy. I will be focusing on artists who specialize more in classical painting techniques than illustration, or modern art. This is also an interesting statistic because it shows that the audience is well into their career, so they are probably looking for more high-quality products. Fine artists, especially painters, need so many materials. Brushes, paint, paint mediums, canvases, and so many other tools are all a part of an artist’s kit. There is a balance between getting high quality materials, and also not spending a ton of money, especially because there are so many other products to consider. I researched that a 15 pack of oil paintbrushes can range anywhere between $10 and $75. I decided that these will be mid-range, priced at around $35. When deciding this, I looked into average salaries for artists in South Carolina. Artists make, on average, $40,000 (ZipRecruiter). In South Carolina, the average salary of the general population is %49,550 (ZipRecruiter). Since fine artists in South Carolina make about the median pay, the price of the brushes should be in the middle too. I am choosing to design for South Carolinians because that is where I am from, but also there is a pretty big arts sector here, especially in Charleston and Greenville.
Another aspect of the audience is education. 91% of fine artist have college diplomas, whether that’s associates, bachelor, or masters (Zippa). A big part of art education is art history. Most art majors are required to take a few art history courses to graduate, so it is safe to assume they have a more in-depth knowledge of art history than a regular audience. Because of this, a part of the design will center around art history. The packaging will display classical art, and that will speak to the audience.
I plan to design 4 different packs, including detail, filbert, flat, and assorted brushes. Each of these will have different classical art on the package design (However, I only plan to build one for the final). Having this knowledge of art history will make differentiating these packs easier, and also an exciting easter egg for the audience.

D + 41
Day 41 was a trio of some of the best museums Oklahoma City has to offer. There are alot of pics, and not a ton to say, so enjoy the visual feast.
Tumblr media
The first one was the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. There was a larger gallery of western paintings and a few sculptures. Outside, there were mock old west buildings and decor, and ltos of activities for children. But was interested me the most was recreations of 7 different native home styles, that you could walk around and into to get a sense of how people used to live before colonization.
Tumblr media
.      Heading back inside, there was an entire recreation street of an old west town, with a school, church, shops, and an iron jail cage.
Tumblr media
Further on was a great collection of more native artifacts and dress, and old west tools and weapons. There was also frontier soldier kit and lots of stuff related to the business of riding horses. As I explored deeper, I discovered walls and walls of 1800s weaponry.
Tumblr media
The final section had an entire room dedicated to the rodeo industry and it’s celebrities. I spent some more time browsing the vast art collection, much of which was for sale, and then moved on to the small but densely packed Oklahoma Firefighters Museum.
Tumblr media
This place was an interesting break from the regular fare of American history, focusing entirely on the equipment and regalia of the firefighter. Ancient looking fire engines, some without even motors, took up the center of the room, surrounded by firefighting hand tools, fire suits, oxygen tanks, hose attachments, and an incredible wall of patches.
Tumblr media
The patch collection was the work of a very dedicated collector, and contained nearly every fire department in the US, as well as some foreign ones, and historical ones like the Soviet Union. Even though it covered three of the walls of the museum, there were more still that there was no room to display.
Tumblr media
Also of note was the recreation of an antique fire department switchboard. Outside there were a few derelict engines too big to fit inside the museum, and a small playground.
Tumblr media
The final museum of the day was a familiar stop, the 45th Infantry Division museum. It was much the same as the others, but equally as impressive. I could spend all day browsing the walls and walls of military history up close and personal.
Tumblr media
The collection was organized chronologically, from the early 1800s to the present, showcasing every war and campaign that the division participated in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was a group of display boards full of military patches, which as a collector (of mostly novelty ones), this was a very good day for me. There were cases and cases full of uniforms, guns, and war trophies. The 45th ID was fairly unique in that they were one of the unit’s to raid Hitler’s summer residence and an apartment he used, and they brought back a collection of his personal dinnerware, linens, stationary, and other fanciful stuff he surrounded himself with. A museum is the only place where that stuff belongs.
Tumblr media
The collection continued with beautiful displays of WW2 vehicles and the unit’s foray into aerial combat. There was a collection of gas masks over the years, and old medical kits, and a jeep with a massive artillery gun slapped on it, bifurcating it’s windshield.
Tumblr media
Another room had a collection of deployable guns and radio equipment, I wandered for hours through the labyrinth of rifled in glass cases, marveling at the long history of the technology of killing each other... through Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and finally to Afghanistan.
Tumblr media
The last area in particular had a grim display of various types of improvised explosive devices, a tool used to teach soldiers what to look out for. Finally it was time to move outside, where there was another large collection of military vehicles and aircraft.
Tumblr media
Planes, cannons, rockets, helicopters, tanks, and more, the garden of mechanized warfare was paved and a pleasant stroll.
Tumblr media
This wasn’t the end of my day however, as I took a bonus stop to hike through a location known as the Ruins of Gandini's Circus, just north of the city. The place was full of rusting and decayed shells of long abandoned vehicles and structures. There weren’t really any buildings left, but it appeared some people had been trying to live in some of the trailers. I wandered through the graffiti covered wasteland, bemusedly tossing around osage oranges during my search for anything significant. I encountered a few other explorers, but did not engage them.
Tumblr media
As night fell, I reached my final stop, which was an out the way overlook of a lake. Not to waste the opportunity, instead of enjoying the view, I grabbed my UV lights and searched for fluorescent rocks. I found a few cool specimens, and managed to spot this lil guy.

Third Visit to Bromo, and a Middle School Interlude
I'm not surprised that my blog posts are becoming more irregular. There are a few reasons. I'm more comfortable in Malang, Java and Indonesia now, so I'm not sitting around quite as much as I did in the first months. Last weekend, I went up to Mt. Bromo for three nights. It's still the rainy season and I was taking a chance that the conditions would be poor again, but going up for that period of time gave me the opportunity to rush up to the caldera whenever there was a break in the clouds. So, I stayed in a nice hotel - the Jiwa Jawa Resort - quiet (for the most part, details further down), with good food, and an interesting photographic art gallery in the lobby and the restaurant. There is even a room of dozens of old cameras. So somebody in management likes photography. I gather that this resort also has a jazz festival in the spring, at a lovely amphitheater on their property. The temps are cold at night, and the rooms don't have any heat, but the blankets were thick and warm, and it is nice to get away from the swelter of the lowlands. Luckily, the clouds broke on my first morning there, so I hiked about 3 km uphill (and I mean STEEP). It was a real workout. I took plenty of pics of the terraced farms, the flowers, the green trees, the blue sky. Then I had the whole caldera at my feet, with thick high clouds offering a strong contrast to the blue sky and green and gray ground, as well as casting shadows on the volcanic cones. A fantastic vision, although I was not so high up that I could see Mt. Semeru to the south. But shortly after I started walking back down (and I mean STEEP), the fog crept up the hillside and the whole mountain side was cast in mist. That mist held and worsened over the next 36 hours, so I was lucky I had any clear skies at all. The rain started falling that afternoon and kept falling until my last morning. But I was well provided for with food and drink at the hotel restaurant, and I had my guitar, my collage kit, and a book. So I just took it easy. If I'd stayed home, I would have been sitting around too, so I felt nice to be sitting around somewhere else! The second evening did have one kink in it. I had finished my dinner and was settling in for the evening, in fact, I had fallen asleep. When I went to bed at 9:30, I could hear my next door neighbors talking, but it wasn't disruptive...until after midnight. I guess they'd been drinking for those intervening hours and they woke me up with much louder talking, which was basically arguing, and crying and some crashing about. At one point the woman ran out of the room in tears, slamming the door, and things quieted down for a short while. But then she returned and knocked on their door, and he let her in and they recommenced their public display of recriminations. I called the front desk and complained, but the scene played out for another hour or so. Pretty pathetic. But I was able to get some sleep after all. I asked at the front desk the next morning if I could switch rooms. There weren't that many people at the hotel, but I was stuck next to the drunken honeymooners. They accommodated me quite nicely with an upgrade to a fancy room where I spent my last evening. All was well. But when I returned home to Malang, I have to say, I felt a bit disconsolate. That's another reason I haven't written as much fo rthis blog. My work situation is unenviable. The school, the administration, seem to care not the slightest what I do. I'm sure I mentioned some things in previous posts about expectations having been disappointed. This semester it seems they will ask even less of me. I asked for 3 or 4 classes of my own. They've given me one. That's all I have, well, I'll get into the other thing soon. One class on campus, two days a week, total 3 hours. Of course, there's some prep and grading, but I could hardly do less. They've talked about having me host different sessions at the school library or the writing center, but nothing has come up yet. The one thing they set up for me is 4 days a local Catholic Middle School. Now, my detached feeling about this is, "WTF?!?! Are you kidding me?!" But my actual feeling was, "I'll do it because I have so little else to do." So I've taught two days of 8th grade classes, and will finish my second day of 9th grade classes tomorrow. It's not been all pleasant. There is a reason why I never taught in middle school before - I have no (little) patience for 14 year olds. Who does? But the kids are polite, and the teachers at the school have shown far more appreciation for my presence than the university teachers. Still, it's a boondoggle. Tomorrow, I'll bring my guitar and play a song or two for the classes and then for a more general audience. This is a mascot situation, but I like to sing and play, so I'll enjoy it, and then I'll never have to deal with it again - hopefully. And tomorrow after school, I'll take a car to a new town, Blitar, where I'll spend another three nights in a decent hotel, relaxing, eating well, going to temples, waterfalls, a volcano and the beach. Plenty yet to discover of Java.

The Wellcome Collection’s most notable exhibitions are about Human Anatomy. The latter is a well-designed gallery with interactive displays and interesting artworks, displaying 17th-century wooden anatomical models. The apothecary-style cabinet contains panels made of the same wood as the walls. The cabinet also includes a replica of Sir Henry’s life mask. The most impressive feature of this display is its ability to provide additional information. Among its more striking achievements are its permanent holdings of over a million objects relating to medical history and culture. It has also received commissions from a wide variety of artists, including Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst.
The last rotating exhibition was “Rooted Beings” which explored the human experience in relation to climate change. The building also has a full-scale replica of an Apollo laser ranging reflectometer, which invites you to take pictures in front of the display. The gallery is also home to firefighting helmets from the Great London Fire. The building has been refurbished as part of a 2015 renovation. You can check the website to stay up to date with the latest exhibitions.
The Wellcome Collection Museum is a unique destination that combines artistic interpretation with the medical discoveries of its founder, Sir Henry Wellcome. The collection includes more than 250,000 objects, with a focus on the collision of life, art, and medicine. The museum is located on Euston Road, close to the Euston train station. The museum is run by the Wellcome Trust, which is one of the world’s leading medical charities. A museum is a place where you can discover stories about health and science, and how they affect people.
The Wellcome Collection is the best place in London to get a taste of history and culture while snooping around a library full of original artworks. The museum is also close to London’s most famous attractions, making it a popular place for tourists. Next blog post

𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘮 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 ❖
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
♡ 𝘭𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘳 ; 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘳𝘵
✧   Sure, Lucifer is looking forward to appreciating art and the history behind each piece, but he finds himself much more excited to spend more time alone with you. History can be preserved, but every moment spent with you is simply irreplaceable; he ends up surprisingly spending more time gazing at you than admiring the artwork.
✧   You make him feel young again. In between displays, he sneaks kisses, mischievously pulling you away from the crowds just to hold you in his arms for a stolen moment. Lucifer adores the way you fall into his arms with soft laughter, and it makes him cradle your face between his gloved hands while he whispers about the way everyone looks at you like you’re a work of art.
“But do you?” You ask softly.
“I always do, ______.” Silhouetted by the gallery lights, he pulls you into a tender kiss full of emotion; a moment that no doubt belongs among the displays of beauty and immortality that surround you.
✧   Lucifer is the kind of person to actually read the little plaques beside the pieces that go into detail about the artist and the intentions behind their art. It takes a while for him to take it all in, but you don’t mind— it’s very cute to see him have to bend down and squint to read them.
✧   Your day hardly ends there. Even as he takes you home, he very much enjoys discussing your opinions on the works included in the gallery and the artists behind them. It’s Lucifer’s way of getting closer, trying to decipher how your mind works, how you view art pieces that are open to multiple interpretations. It’s his favourite part. He loves you and your brilliant mind.
♡ 𝘮𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯 ; 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 / 𝘢𝘳𝘵
✧   Your demon is the definition of a kinaesthetic learner. Mammon fits right in with the kids that run around the place, tugging on your hand as he begs you to come play these games with him! He never wants to do anything without you and you end up being basically dragged around the museum. But it’s okay because he’s cute!
✧   While surrounded by so many people, it’s even easier for him to get flustered about affection. His cheeks flush red whenever he thinks too hard about holding your hand, whether it’s to bring you somewhere, or just to hold your hand for the sake of it. The back of his fingers brush against yours, making you smile.
“Hm? What do you want to show me?” you ask as you take his hand to intertwine your fingers with his.
Mammon fidgets with his free hand before shoving it into his jacket pocket, looking away with a brilliant blush. His voice is quiet as he mumbles, “N-nothing, I just… wanted to hold your hand. Or whatever.”
✧   He’s much smarter than people like to give him credit for at times, and surprises you with bits of information he picks up that you couldn’t understand. At the same time, it’s hard to stop him from gushing about how cool it was to see that chunk of sodium explode when dropped in water and how he wants to watch that over and over again.
✧   Mammon runs wild in the gift shop, especially at those little archaeology or mining kits that let you dig through hunks of sand that claim to contain a piece of gold. Of course, there are a million things the both of you want to buy for yourselves, but so little money to do so with. He settles for something small in the end, because he wants to be able to buy something small for his brothers too.
♡ 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 ; 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦
✧   From the beginning, Leviathan is absolutely fascinated. The calming atmosphere of the museum and being completely surrounded by his element makes Levi relax, even if he’d normally panic and try to hide from the people that walk along the exhibitions with you. But even then, you make sure to hold his hand just to reassure him a little more.
✧   Just like he rants about pretty much anything he has an interest in, Levi rants about the equipment on display and compares weapons or ships from different eras to each other, as if he’s talking about mere video game stats. It’s actually kind of hot to see him act like the Grand Admiral of hell’s navy is supposed to.
✧   Treat him like a Grand Admiral, actually. His brain totally short circuits when you lean into him and put a hand on his chest and gasp about how knowledgeable and strong he is.
“Oh captain, my captain!” you sing as you pepper his face in kisses, making him squirm in your arms. His face is beet red as he attempts to cover it with his hands.
“People are- they’re going to see us!” Levi whines.
You laugh and kiss him properly, arms wrapped around him tight. “That’s the point, baby! I like it when people know I’m yours.”
✧   He actually gets a little sad when he sees the bones of massive whales or the various preserved remains of sea life on display. They all feel like a part of him. At times, he feels like sea animals understand him much better than people do, and he has to give your hand a squeeze as the two of you through the section. At least he brightens up when you tell him that most of these specimens die a natural death or were cared for during their life.
♡ 𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘯 ; 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺
✧   His choice of museum goes without explanation. Humans are frail creatures that are essentially doomed to make the same mistakes again and again, despite a new era or millennia, but Satan still finds their history remarkable. He’s fascinated with seeing the butterfly effect ripple through time, sparking wars and conflicts. It makes him wonder about the universe’s decisions— especially the ones that brought you to him.
✧   Satan has always been more fond of reading the ancient texts on display or translating archaic inscriptions on bronze age charms, but when he’s with you, he finds himself more drawn to the elegant gowns and elaborately crafted jewellery on display. You always find his emerald eyes lingering on you, imagining what you would look like in something so grand. Your beauty stuns him in every way, especially with the way you smile at him while framed by the display’s lights.
✧   “I thought you wanted to learn,” you mumble with a quiet laugh into the kiss that Satan pulls you into. The two of you are wrapped in each other’s arms in the back of a crowded amphitheatre, making an attempt to watch a historical film.
In the darkness, Satan’s blush goes unseen, but you feel it in the heat of his face as you kiss him back eagerly. “I’ve learned enough about humans, ______. I want to focus on my favourite one now.”
You close your eyes, and so does he. History couldn’t matter less, not when it feels like the two of you are the only beings to exist, the only people that matter.
✧   Despite wanting to learn, Satan finds himself getting dragged into shenanigans with you as you voice historical figures with the goofiest accents and clown around with some of the interactive props. He laughs along and snaps a million pictures of you to keep, and he supposes that humans aren’t the only ones that make recurring mistakes. After all, he lets you loosen him up and lets you force your way into his heart time and time again, but he still can’t force himself to complain about it.
♡ 𝘢𝘴𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘶𝘴 ; 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘰𝘯
✧   Beauty in its different forms has always mesmerised Asmodeus. Museums have never been his thing, but with a fashion museum, you might just be able to change his mind. He goes between gushing about the textures and layering of different pieces to gushing about you and how amazing you look today!
✧   Asmo is always on top of the latest trends, but there’s something that always brings him back to the ostentatious allure of baroque and rococo dresses. He loves reading about the rise of these styles, but he would rather pull you along into a waltz as the quiet ambient music plays around you, the both of you giggling and referring to each other as ‘lord’ and ‘lady’.
✧   Or ‘your majesty’ and ‘my consort’...
✧   You, as always, expect him to pull you away somewhere quiet to make out and be general public nuisances, but Asmodeus surprises you this time. He’s far too busy taking pictures of you together and of just you alone, his amber gaze so soft as he contemplates your beauty. He ends up leaning in serenely as the two of you find yourselves alone together in a gallery.
“You’re gorgeous,” Asmo mumbles with a smile, delicately tucking a lock of your hair behind your ear. “There’s just something so magnetic about you, I can’t look away…”
“I don’t have to say it back because you know you’re handsome and your ego is big enough... but there’s nothing that can compare to how lovely your soul is.” You chuckle softly, resting a hand affectionately on the side of his face. Asmo rests his forehead against yours, wrapping his arms around the back of his neck with a delighted giggle, delighted in knowing that you see him beyond his superficialities and flaws.
✧   He buys you a set of jewellery from the gift shop, and not one of the cheap ones either. He splurges on one of the most expensive professionally made vintage sets because he really wants to daydream about you dancing with him in those rococo dresses, the most gorgeous royal couple in the world…
♡ 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘻𝘦𝘣𝘶𝘣 ; 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘵
✧   Delighted by the more colourful and almost bizarre applications of mixed-media art (think Yayoi Kusama), Beelzebub enjoys contemporary art the most. He’s easily fascinated with the elaborately abstract displays, and quietly wraps his arm around your waist as the two of you gawk at stunning larger-than-life works that probably get him a little hungry.
✧   He’s a respectful visitor and likes to stay silent so he doesn’t disturb the quiet atmosphere for everyone else appreciating the art. It ends up in him having to lean down and murmur softly in your ear when he has something to tell you, his warm arms pulling you into an embrace that you never want to leave.
✧   Workshops! Please bring Beel to the workshops because they’re his favourite part of museums. No matter how hungry he gets while putting in so much effort, he’ll sit still and work hard to make you something you can treasure.
“Do you like it?” he asks with a smile as he presents you with a little figurine version of one of the sculptures featured in the exhibition, hand painted by him. It’s easy to notice how the colours he picked out match your features. “It’s yours.”
“I love it, Beel! Oh, it’s wearing my coat and everything!” you gasp. The elated smile he gives you is absolutely priceless, and you can’t help but tiptoe to kiss him in thanks for his hard work.
Beel lets out a soft laugh and nuzzles his cheek into yours. “I really liked the art, but it felt like something was missing… Maybe the exhibition would’ve been a lot more beautiful if you were an art piece on display too.”
✧   Bringing him to a museum like that just might inspire him to create art by himself. After creating something for you, he feels hooked on it! You find him doodling a lot more on his homework and giving you the most endearing drawings of things you like, or his own hilarious renditions of what Lucifer looks like when he’s about to burst a blood vessel. Beel definitely has a hidden talent for caricatures.
♡ 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘨𝘰𝘳 ; 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺
✧   Humans? Belphegor has had enough of them for a lifetime and can’t be bothered with learning more about them, but natural history is something that captivates him. There’s a kind of innocent wonder in his eye as you lead him around the exhibitions, marvelling at the displayed remains of the massive creatures that came before, wondering how they evolved into the tiny little animals of today. (But it’s probably also morbid curiosity with the way he looks at preserved carcasses and skeletons.)
✧   But you’re an exception to him. He's tired of humans but never of you, even if he jokes about it at times. Even if he knows about most of the things on display, Belphie is still asking you to tell him about them because he just loves hearing your voice. Coupled with the soothing silence of the museum, it almost puts him to sleep.
✧   “Don’t fall asleep! You paid to watch this!” you whisper when Belphie rests his head on your shoulder. You want to pay attention to the dinosaurs beating the shit out of each other in the surprisingly well-rendered 3D documentary, but you can’t help but gaze at your boyfriend instead, and the way he looks in those dumb 3D glasses.
“I won’t,” he mumbles, rolling his eyes. “You’re warm.”
“You’re a little leech, you know that?” Despite your snarky tone, you lift up the partition between the theatre’s seats to let Belphie snuggle into you. Just like a leech, he’s immediately all over you with his arms wrapped tight around your waist, chuckling as he buries his face in your neck.
✧   You wouldn’t expect it, but he’s also the kind to go wild in the gift shop, albeit in more subtle ways— like staring really hard at something or carrying something only to put it down for you to get the hint. He ends up getting the both of you a big plushy to cuddle and name on the way home.

Precure Bonus Day: YPC5GG Op/Ed
The start of a new show naturally means new theme music to go with it, and once again I’m going to avoid cluttering up an episode review by discussing the opening and ending separately. Here’s the gallery I threw together and my thoughts are below: https://imgur.com/a/wnX3871
Tumblr media
Yes! Precure 5 Go Go! Opening: “Precure 5, Full Throttle GO GO!” by Kudou Mayu
vimeo
Similar to its predecessor, this is an action song, but it’s a bit more whimsical and fantastical than the Yes 5 theme. It’s not lighter, but it evokes a different mood. As @sailorzombiestar described it, it screams “WE’RE BACK!” The instrumental composition is an electric guitar, violins, bass, a drum kit, piano, and brass. The full version of the song has some short one or two measure solos by each of the voice actresses for the main 5 and some instruments, like a trumpet and a guitar solo. The lyrics talk about the power of working together and how you can overcome any problem if you believe in yourself. The chorus says “I’m waiting for everyone’s help, so let’s move forward and shout together that we’re Precure 5 and our feelings are one!” which is nice and inspiring.
The visuals are overall better than in the first series intro. There’s more unique and animated footage and less reused art from the series. While the Yes 5 intro had a build up to the title drop in the song, and therefore displaying the name of the show, in this one they sing and show it right away while the five main girls fade in from silhouettes in the background. After that, they do an interesting thing where they have all of the characters run past the camera, while the Precures are naturally first, Dream comes at the very end after Syrup, Coco, Nuts, Milk, and Kurumi/Milky Rose have been shown in order to transition to the next sequence. There’s not as much to show off each girl’s personality like there was in the Y5 intro, so they really are assuming you watched the last show. Following this, there’s some nice visual exposition by showing Flora crying, and in one of her tears is the Rose Pact. Later, there’s a scene of the cures raiding Eternal Headquarters, and a mysterious hooded figure representing the boss of Eternal is seen holding four orbs, each of which has the image of one of the four monarchs in it that the girls have to rescue over the course of the series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also there’s a really cool sequence where they flash between a bunch of still shots of the Precures appearing in the media, implying their existence is more widely known in this series. The first scene is a shot of Bunbee holding a newspaper, making him the only villain from this series to appear in the intro (the hooded figure above does not count). Another shot is from the journalism club, with the very strong implication that it’s Mika writing a piece on the cures, so it’s nice that she made it into the intro.
I don’t like it quite as much as the first series opening, but it’s another fun song and it’ll be good to experience for the next few months while I dig through this series.
Yes! Precure 5 Go Go! Ending 1: “Holding Hands Also Links our Hearts!!” by Kanako Miyamoto
vimeo
Following in the grand tradition of Precure ending themes, this is another nonsense song. The lyrics are about holding hands to transmit energy and positivity and make each other laugh. The visuals align closely with this, and sometimes the girls lip-sync with what’s being said. They’re pretty much always acting out what’s being said. There’s some fun sight gags, like Karen coming in early on the first count-up (she’s supposed to be 5 but she comes in on 4 and both Urara and Komachi turn to look at her.) There’s a lot of floating heads in bubbles, and other times there’s a thick, colorful border surrounding the characters as they stand in front of generic backgrounds.
Tumblr media
I caught a couple moments of particular closeness between Karen and Kurumi, as if the staff are really leaning into that pairing.
Tumblr media
Instrumentally, it’s very heavy on the drum kit and electric guitar, with prominent brass cutting in again. There’s also a rubber piano providing harmony in the quiet parts. Other percussion like maracas can be heard at various points. At one point in the full version, there’s even a saxophone solo! The style is a very feel-good pop with lots of audience interaction.
It’s a catchy song, but I find it distinctly, maybe purposefully, non-memorable. Some Precure songs stick with me (Wonder Winter Yatta and H@ppy Together come to mind) while others are instantly forgotten when the show is over. It’s not a condemnation of the song or the work that went into it, but it doesn’t stick with me for very long at all. That being said, I think I prefer it over GoGo’s rendition of Ganbalance de Dance.
There are two things I find particularly interesting about the animation in both the opening and ending: first, Kurumi/Milky Rose is included here despite not appearing in the show until episode 11. They probably just didn’t want to re-animate these segments later to include her, lord knows all the Precure shows that have done this only half-ass it. The second thing is that they don’t reveal that Kurumi is actually Milk’s alter ego, which is definitely a big secret and I believe that isn’t properly revealed in the series until episode 14. (sorry for 12 year-old spoilers) They even go as far as to show Milk and Milky Rose together in that splash cards at the end of both songs, despite not showing off Coco, Nuts, and Syrup’s human forms at the same time as their fairy forms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next time on Precure Daily, Nozomi receives a mysterious letter, meets a mysterious boy, and the team gets their powers back! Look forward to it!

Paint Abstract Self Portraits for Rookies
Gone are the days when a person had to sit for hours on end to get a self-portrait made by a professional artist. The person is called a “sitter” because traditionally individuals sat in front of the artist to get the angles and features right. In today’s modern day and age it’s a lot easier to get a customized self-portrait made, even better you can do it yourself as well. Although hiring a professional is still doable, they won’t mind a handsome commission as well.
A portrait can be of a person, animal or a group of people. They can be made with a wider viewpoint as well as just focus on the face. A good portrait excellently depicts something about the true essence of the individual. They can be compelling, captivating and engrossing, if represented well. Sketches are an artistic way to display the visual representation of someone close to your heart and soul. A well-made portrait can reveal something about the person, it may be something not that evident but with the right eye you can see it.
If you’re a rookie artist then paint by numbers abstract self-portrait can be a jarring task, which can easily overwhelm anyone. But doing so can give you deep satisfaction and encouragement. It will boost your confidence and push you forward to challenge yourself as an artist. For starters, give abstract paint by numbers a try, they are a great way to commence and the end result will be clap worthy. Try your hand at them as it will be one of a kind experience with a very low chance of messing up.
Painting abstract self-portraits might seem like a daunting task and a massive undertaking, especially if you are a beginner. These are best of both worlds and require precision and skill. Portraits themselves demand competency and abstract art requires sophistication. Imagine if you combine these two art forms, the end result will be mesmerizing, enthralling and spellbinding. But if you mess up the result can be embarrassing, disastrous, hilarious and shattering.
A well devised abstract self-portrait can set the mood right of any wall it is placed on. It can be a complete crowd pleaser that can captivate the onlookers, draw them deep into the vivid colors and stimulate their attention. The viewers will feel a strong connection with the portrait and make them wonder about the person illustrated.
The best thing about doing a self-portrait is the control over the subject, as you are the subject. You can go all out with colors or tread lightly. With the right colors you can make the portrait a biography of the person, telling the story, experiences, hobbies and occupation by carefully crafting visual clues. With this article I aim to make this process easy for you. Any picture can be turned into abstract painting by computer apps and you can easily convert that into abstract paint by numbers kit, to gift it or play with it yourself to brush up your artistic skills.
You can take a picture and convert it into an abstract painting on a computer or you can start from scratch and paint a self-portrait. If you opt for the latter then keep in mind the following.
Start the artwork and do a preliminary drawing first
Start your creative endeavor sooner rather than later. The more you think about it the more overwhelming it will get. But never forget the benefits of planning ahead; in fact it’s crucial if you don’t want to stop mid-way. Do initial drawing of the main features of the face and align them so that the chances of muddling are fewer and far between.
Lighting and mirrors are everything
Lighting placement and usage of mirrors are pivotal and defining steps that can change the way your portrait looks. Good lighting will give you the much needed contrast in colors and mirrors will aid in getting the picture close to real life, which is hard to achieve with a photograph.
Display the real you and have fun with expressions
Embrace yourself with all your flaws and faults; I know it’s the most difficult part of painting a self-portrait. If we don’t show our wrinkles, crooked teeth, scars or blemishes the self-portrait will be far from depicting your true self. But you have the full liberty to play with expressions. Choose the expression wisely as it would set the mood of your abstract self-portrait.
Now if you chose the former, it’s far easier, select a picture from your gallery that you want to convert into abstract painting and upload it in any app that offers to convert a picture into abstract artwork. Selection of the picture is crucial, the picture must be high quality and if you are a beginner then start with something that is less complicated and has less objects.
