Can you imagine? It's has been 13 years since the world of Berk and the archipelago opened up to us. Since we entered this crazy, viking village 12 degrees north from hopeless and a few degrees south of freezing to death.

I reckon the HTTYD anniversaries might kick off a little differently for fans all over the globe depending on its opening, because DreamWorks commemorated the HTTYD's 13 years on the 22nd of March on Instagram, though I distinctly remember it opening where I was on the 27th because it was also my birthday and I wanted to watch a movie.

Which means, yes, guys, I'm turning 24 today! HAHA! To mark this double celebration, I thought of doing something fun and a little different from my usual posts just to get the ball rolling. So, question, have you guys ever watched She's Out of My League?

She's Out of My League is a Jay Baruchel movie. A rom-com produced by Paramount Pictures AND (wait for it...) DreamWorks Pictures. It was released in March 2010 which meant that our Hiccup-voice-actor here had two movies playing at the cinema simultaneously.

I remembered that I wasn't allowed to watch the movie, but my older brother (10 years older than me) snuck me into the theatres to watch. I remember him covering my eyes for a bit and not understanding a lot of the humour back then, but I did remember the premise, so here goes...

Premise:

Kirk (Jay Baruchel) is your everyday, average Joe. Coupled w the fact that he is somewhat a pushover and insidiously insecure, he tries to get back with his manipulative ex-girlfriend Marni. After that failed, he stumbles onto the path of the beautiful Molly, who by beauty standards, personality and life-style choices is considered a hard 10, while he is rated a mere 5.

When Molly seems to take an interest in Kirk, the whole world is put out of balance and their friends smell impending doom by virtue of their different "social ratings." However, are these standards real, or just a social construct that needs debunking?

I'm not here to criticise the movie. I'm sure we all have our thoughts. Nor am I saying that this movie or the romantic storyline holds a candle to the HTTYD franchise or Hiccstrid, but, it was hilarious to discover a number of parallels between these two worlds.

DRAWING PARALLELS

THE CHARACTERS

Kirk Kettner (Jay Baruchel) - The awkward underdog, highly underestimated by everyone including himself and doesn't see that he is, in fact, more than his make.

Molly (Alice Eve) - The beautiful, blonde and determined love interest. Lawyer turned successful events planner. Independent, fiercely confident and a real go-getter.

Devon (Nate Torrence) - The nicer friend in Kirk's friend group. An adorable, huggable sweetie pie who still believes in magic and romance.

Dylan (Kyle Bornheimer) - The guy you'd love to hate. He is Kirk's overbearing older brother who bullies Kirk to mask his own insecurities.

Stainer (T.J. Miller) - The quick talking, witty side-kick whose crazy ideas propels the storyline into an absurd direction. Who is actually, also Tuffnut.

Katie (Kim Shaw) - Molly's younger, dimwitted sister who is just getting by.

Patty (Krysten Ritter) - Molly's best friend and business partner. Strong-willed, independent and fiercely loyal.

THEME, MESSAGE & STORYLINE

(1) IT ISN'T ABOUT HOW YOU LOOK LIKE, BUT WHO YOU ARE ON THE INSIDE

It's a cliche to say, beauty is from within. But it doesn't make it less true. I think what makes Molly attractive is because she is a really nice person, adaptable. Her beauty is an aspect of it. Imagine if Molly had Marni's personality. The story would've turned differently.

This is also Kirk's selling point. The pinnacle of his entire personality is the nice guy card, it's what attracts Molly.

Likewise w Hiccup, he is a genuinely good guy. You can't fault him for his courtesy. Though Kirk's personality seems more like a caricature of Hiccup's, ironically. And, Hiccup's strength and leadership is not something you'd notice on his person but in him.

(2) YOU NEED TO BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOURSELF

I loved Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man [Episode 8, Season 1 (Riders of Berk)] for many reasons, but mainly because it was the episode Hiccup proves to himself that he is worthy.

She's Out of My League was a movie about Kirk learning that he is worthy. That he isn't just a five, that this whole rating system is nonsense. He was always good enough for Molly, he was never good enough for himself.

Though She's Out of My League didn't dive into Kirk and Molly's relationship and life after they got back together, I am assuming Kirk found his courage in someways. He ends up flying a plane, which is a life long dream of his, he dreamt of becoming a pilot. And well, we all know that if Hiccup existed today, and was a real person, he would've been a pilot too. Maybe in the AirForce, on a jet black plane named Toothless.

HICCSTRID MOMENTS

No review of mine is complete without Hiccstrid.

Kirk and Molly have roughly the same hair colour as Hiccup and Astrid. My favourite scenes in She's Out of My League are the romantic montages of them going out. This is one of my favourite shots from the show:

I crushed hard on Jay Baruchel. I mean, the dude has got some game. I mean, awkward af, but still, he's pretty cute. I mean... let me show you...

THE ROMANTIC MONTAGES IN SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE FELT LIKE A HICCSTRID AU FAN FICTION GOT PRODUCED INTO A MUSIC VIDEO!

I'm not recommending you guys watch this show by the way. If you haven't that is. If you're not used to this type of adult-comedy, you might not like it. The pacing is a little choppy, and it does slap you w many cringy moments. But sometimes, its just so ridiculously hopeless you can't help but laugh.

I don't remember if the show did well, but its not a bad movie (to me). It was underrated for what it was trying to accomplish, but it could definitely do w some refining . Like, I would've loved it if they developed the characters and the romance more.

But at the time the movie was released, I think a lot of people related to Kirk. The whole, "on a scale of 1 to 10" thing has messed w a lot of confidences.

As a teenager, I reckon that's more of a problem. I remember that popular girls in school were always pretty and the hot guys were always good looking. And well, it's hard to not believe that looks don't play a part.

But, once I grew out of it, I honestly found those attributes to come in second to many other qualities of a person. Looks just happen to be a bonus. Hahaha, look at me, a day older and already issuing unsolicited advice.

So I decided to turn one of my Sherlock AUs into a Treklock one, which means we'll see a few other trek characters pop up maybe, but generally I wanted John Harrison & Sherlock Holmes to be cousins who work together. I just had a lot of fun with this, though it's got romantic!Sherlolly and platonic!Khanolly.

Family Resemblance (A "Serenity Coffee & Tea Shoppe" Story) - John Harrison has been a regular at Serenity Coffee & Tea Shoppe for months now, but no one realized the similarity between John and Sherlock until now. Since they're cousins, it's to be expected.

Molly looked down at the order she was preparing but couldn’t help the smile that came at the familiar voice at the counter. Every day, Jim Kirk tried to get his coworker to try something different, and every day, John Harrison ended up getting an extra large black coffee with two tablespoons of milk and three sugars.

“I tried, Mary,” Jim said to her best friend and favorite employee (not that she was biased, but she did have her favorites) Mary Morstan. At Serenity, it wasn’t uncommon to have regulars who came for the service, and Jim always seemed to be flirty with all the women who worked there. John just stood to the side.

“I know you did, sweetheart,” she said. “Some people are killjoys.’

“I am not a killjoy,” John said from where he had sat at the counter with a newspaper. Molly got his coffee done as soon as she finished the order she’d been working on. John wasn’t overtly friendly with many people, but he gave a good tip.

“Here you go, John. Your usual,” she said with a smile, setting it on the counter.

“Does Lestrade have any sandwiches with turkey and Havarti today?” John asked, folding the newspaper halfway to look at her.

“He’s in the back, so if he doesn’t, I can ask him to make one. Cranberry sauce too?”

“Yes, please,” John said with a nod. It was a leftover special made when the yanks were celebrating Thanksgiving, but she had to admit, the combination of turkey, Havarti and cranberry sauce was a hit with the customers. She had no doubt Greg would whip one up for John.

“Mary, you’re my salvation,” as she handed him his very complicated coffee.

“One day my boyfriend is going to be here and you’ll flirt with me and I’ll watch you get punched,” Mary said with a chuckle. “Just because you’re American doesn’t mean it will work as an excuse.”

“You’ve got a boyfriend now?” John asked, the paper still covering his face.

“His name is John. John Watson.”

The whole paper came down in an instant. “Is Sherlock here too?”

“He is,” Molly asked, with a frown. “Why do you ask?”

“Sherlock is my cousin. I work for the same company he’s a vice-president of. I mean, I’m the Assistant CFO, but that’s just because my cousin Mycroft is the Head CFO. Good to know he has some taste.” John picked up his coffee. “You didn’t notice the resemblance? We both take after my uncle.”

“You know, now that you mention it…” Mary said. “I’d say you were almost twins. Except he dresses like a professor and has those crazy curls and you dress more like a business professional.”

“Sherlock only works there because Sigur won’t give the vice president position to John,” Jim said, taking a sip of his coffee as the bell alerting a new customer opening the door sounded.

“If my father did, John is vastly more qualified than I am,” Sherlock said as he came in. “James. John.”

“Sherlock,” John said with a nod of his head. “It seems you’ve found my secret hidey-hole.”

“I never knew you came here. Stamford told me about the place,” he said.

“Jim found it on a date with Carol,” John said. “I like the ambiance and the food.”

Sherlock pursed his lips for a moment. “Think we can convince Mycroft to use this coffee shop’s services on the corporate account?”

“I suppose we could. He’s stolen my coffees and not complained, and the prices are fair for the excellent sandwiches,” John said. “Tag-team effort?” Sherlock nodded. “We can do that Monday, then. I’m scheduled through to Friday.”

“Works for me,” he said as Lestrade came out with John’s sandwich, doing a double take as he saw Sherlock and John nearby each other. “We’re cousins.”

“Small world,” Lestrade said. “Cinnamon and pecan muffin, Sherlock?”

“Thank you. And a blueberry one for John as well.”

“This John?”

“My John,” Mary interjected. Lestrade nodded and went back to the kitchen, and Mary moved her finger, pointing between Jim, John and Sherlock. “So all four of you work for the same company?”

“Holmes & Co. Development,” Sherlock and Jim nearly said in unison as John had some of his sandwich.

“Fascinating,” Molly said.

“Honestly, I’ve been trying to talk my father into firing me and hiring my cousin in my position,” Sherlock said, sitting down next to Jim at the counter. “I’d much rather be a professor than a vice president.”

“When he dies, you inherit half the company’s stock,” John said as soon as he had swallowed his sandwich bite. “You can give it to me then and I can run the company at least as well as he is. Mycroft can stay on as CFO and Jim can have my position.”

“So you’re actually Jim’s boss?” Molly asked, looking absolutely fascinated by the whole family saga, just as Mary did.

“We were actually university roommates at Yale,” Jim said. “When I decided I needed a drastic change, John offered me the position as his right hand man, so to speak.”

“This is really interesting” Mary said. “All these months you two have been coming in and it took Sherlock becoming a regular for all of this to come out.”

“Family business is family business, but now that family is getting involved in your affairs, it can be a bit more open,” John said.

“Molly, may I speak with you? Privately?” Sherlock said after Mary handed him his usual order.

“Of course!” she said with a wide smile. Sherlock took his coffee and led her to the chairs by the bookcase with the books anyone was able to borrow. John glanced in their direction, a small smile on his face.

“He likes her, doesn’t he?” Jim said, noticing the smile.

“Indeed. And she likes him,” John said. “Good for them.”

“I thought you liked her,” Jim said in a hushed voice.

“I am...aroace, I believe is the term. I have no need for sexual or romantic relationships, nor do I desire them. Have you ever seen me talk to anyone for a date?” John asked, picking up his coffee and taking a sip.

“I just thought you were a snob and super picky,” Jim said, getting a snorted laugh from Mary. “I learn something new every day.”

“You’re lucky we’re friends,” John murmured, his lips hovering over the lip of his coffee cup. Molly reached over to give Sherlock a quick kiss on the cheek and John’s expression softened. “I am a disappointment to both my father and my uncle for not continuing the family line. Mycroft is in the same boat. Perhaps Sherlock will garner some favor after all, though I know he would rather be back in Oxford.”

“Yeah, well, you do good work,” Jim said. “That’s something to take pride in.”

John nodded and then studied his friend. “You know, you do good work, too. Perhaps a promotion is in order. You deserve to be my equal, not my subordinate.”

“That sounds like it could be an interesting proposal,” Jim said before checking his watch. “We’ve got to get going. You have a meeting with Mycroft at 10:30.”

“Could I get the sandwich to go, and get another coffee for myself and Jim in a tray?” John asked Mary.

“Of course,” she said. John watched her start to prepare Jim’s coffee and he started to get his things together. There was much to think about now, but not all of it was bad. At least Sherlock was amenable to some things he thought his cousin had never considered before. That put him in a good mood for now.

Most Comments: Always Will (61 comments. Star Trek, WIP) The progression of a mind link between Kirk and Spock, based in canon with many chapters directly referencing episodes. Contains a major multi-chap story within the story.

Most Bookmarks: Not Soldiers Anymore (39 bookmarks. Sherlock) Immediate post-TFP. Needed some closure with everything that happened. Many characters including Molly make appearances, but it's mostly about Sherlock and John. Fun fact this fic has been translated to Russian!

Most Words: Pandemic (85,602 words. Kim Possible) Drakgo AU romance/drama as Drakken and Shego face the covid pandemic. I wrote it in real-time to the real world pandemic. This was how I coped. There is love, loss, pain, and eventual resolution. Note it says on the fic the word count is higher, but I had over 1K words of a final author's note that is in the word count so I removed that.

Least Words: He's Been Expecting This (587 words. Sherlock) Tiny interlude taking place during TGG. John tells Lestrade about Moriarty.

Actual Least Words: Domestic Bliss (56 words, Kim Possible) Drakken/Shego humor contained in my short stories anthology, The Little Ones. I think this is correct, don't think I have any shorter on AO3... FFn on the other hand...but this isn't about that.

If AO3 has a fic filtering system for your own stories, I didn't find it. So after painfully scrolling through six pages of fanfic multiple times....I guessed correctly on almost all of these, lol. Only one of my predictions didn't show up.

The 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony Reveals Its Presenters And Performers Line-Up

(L-R) Burna Boy, Luke Combs and Travis Scott will perform at the 2024 GRAMMYs, airing live Sunday, February 4, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on the CBS Television Network.

Acclaimed songwriter/producer, activist and current GRAMMY® nominee, Justin Tranter will host the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony®, live from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Kicking off the ceremony, the opening number will feature a performance by J. Ivy, Larkin Poe, Pentatonix, Sheila E., and Jordin Sparks. Other artists scheduled to perform include current nominees Adam Blackstone, Brandy Clark, Kirk Franklin, Robert Glasper, Bob James, Laufey, Terrace Martin, and Gaby Moreno, as well as GRAMMY-nominated recording artist/drummer Harvey Mason Sr. Presenters for the first GRAMMY Awards® of the day include Patti Austin, Natalia Lafourcade, Carly Pearce, Molly Tuttle, Rufus Wainwright, and five-time GRAMMY winner and former Recording Academy® Board of Trustees Chair Jimmy Jam. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. and Chair of the Board of Trustees Tammy Hurt will provide opening remarks. The 66th GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony will stream live on Sun, Feb. 4, at 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel and on live.GRAMMY.com. City National Bank, the Official Bank of the GRAMMY Awards, is returning for its second year as the presenting sponsor of the Premiere Ceremony.

Funny How Things Happen (1/1 - A "Saviors Of All Worlds" Fic)

So I have been nostalgic as I've been going through my older fics sending links to people who are requesting recs for holiday wishes, and someone wanted my McMolly fics as a pairing that shouldn't work that does so I quickly re-read this series and got inspired. It's my firs time writing Jonathan Archer, so be gentle? But this is an early Christmas gift for @posterofamyth. Enjoy!

Funny How Things Happen - Archer gets asked to officiate a wedding while the Enterprise is still hovering above Atlantis.

Archer looked at the two of them. Leonard he knew well, but his fiancee he’d only heard in transmissions. But even he knew within moments of meeting her exactly what Leonard saw in her. He wasn’t Jim Kirk, wasn’t his captain, was barely Leonard’s friend at this point, but he was confident enough when he said that Leonard had made the right choice marrying her.

And they wanted him to officiate the wedding.

That was truly an honor.

"You know, Christopher or Jim could do it just as much as I could,” Archer said. “They’re captains, too.”

“But it’s your ship, sir,” Molly said. “It’s only fitting we ask you.”

“Well, I would love to do the ceremony for you both. I don’t know what I need to get from Atlantis to do it, but I’m sure you want it done as soon as possible before we go back to our universe.” Both Molly and Leonard nodded. “Does tonight work?”

“Tonight is good,” Leonard said, reaching over for Molly’s hand as she nodded. “Thank you.”

“Well, I’ll leave you two to get things ready, and we’ll meet here at 2000.” Molly and Leonard stood up and turned still holding hands and left Archer alone. He hadn’t had much time alone before there was another knock at his door “Enter.”

He was surprised to see Jim Kirk there. He had to admit, if there was a captain of the Enterprise he’d respect as an absolute equal, it was Kirk. Nothing against Christopher, but Jim reminded him of him. “I’m taking the dog,” Kirk said with a grin.

“I hate to say it, but you can have my beagle,” Archer said. “He found his way to Atlantis and apparently found a mate. And his mate’s owner says she’s not giving up her dog for me. So to make Porthos happy, we’re letting him stay. But the owner gave me a puppy so I won’t be alone.”

“So Porthos is actually mine now?” Kirk said with surprise.

“You better take good care of him, if he stays when we leave,” Archer said. Then he shook his head. “I don’t understand the way this is all working, but I think if his attachment is strong enough, Atlantis will work its weird magic and he’ll stay.” He went to the bar in the corner and looked at Kirk. “Whiskey?”

“Sure,” Kirk said, sitting down in the seat Leonard had vacated. “There’s so much I want to ask you, so much I want to know.”

“I feel the same,” Archer said as he made two whiskeys neat. “But mostly I want to know if what I did was all worth it.”

Kirk nodded. “It was. I mean, my universe split from yours, but...I found your ship.”

“Really?” Archer asked.

“You have a great motorcycle, even after all that time. I used it to save a new friend.”

“Good to know it gets put to good use.” He took the glasses of whiskey over to Kirk and handed him one. “You’re a good leader, you know. Starfleet was lucky to have you, and now it’s Atlantis’s turn.”

“Thank you. That means a lot.” Archer sat back in his seat and the two of them sipped their whiskey. “I saw Len and Molly leaving.”

“You’re going to be thrust into the role of best man tonight,” Archer said with a smile. “They’re getting married here on the Enterprise tonight. I’m officiating.”

“Good for them,” Kirk said, his smile wide. “I’d suggest the same for me and Nyota, but...too soon. Still too much stuff we need to work through.”

“She’s good for you,” Archer said, tipping his glass in Kirk’s direction.

“Here, she’s the best thing that ever happened to me.” Kirk had another sip of his whiskey. “I can see why Spock loved her so much.”

“I knew there was history there,” Archer said. “He’s a gracious man.”

“She still loves him, but in our universe, they gave each other up. There’s feelings there, but they’re not in love with each other. And Spock...he wants the best for us.” He held up his hand, showing Archer the ring he wore. “She has a necklace, I have a ring. We can always tell the other is okay as long as we touch it.”

“And Spock gave them to you?” Kirk nodded. “You think you know Vulcans, and they always surprise you.”

“Well, Spock is half-human on his mother’s side, so...there’s that.” Kirk watched as Archer finished off his drink and he soon did the same. “But yeah. It’s complicated, and messy, but here, we’ve all found happiness in one way or another, even if Spock isn’t in a relationship with anyone.”

“I heard there’s things with wishes here,” Archer said. “Wish for a big, juicy bone for Porthos for me when it happens.”

“I will, if I get more than one,” Kirk said. “I’m already planning on wishing for Spock’s parents to be here. He lost his mom in our universe...from what I understand, that’s not what happened with Spock Prime. My Spock deserves to have them here, have more time with Amanda.”

“You really are a good man, Kirk,” Archer said. “I have things to do to get ready for the wedding, but I just want to say, I’m glad we ended up here.”

“I’m glad you did too,” Kirk said, standing up. He reached a hand out towards Archer, and Archer took his hand in a firm grip and shook it. Kirk grinned when he let go and turned to leave the room. “See you tonight.”

“See you then,” Archer said as Porthos came up around his ankles, rubbing his head against Archer’s leg. Archer picked him up, nuzzling him. “I’m going to miss you, but I think Kirk will take good care of you,” he murmured as Porthos licked his face. It was bittersweet, all of this, but maybe he’d luck out and have Porthos when he went back to his own universe as well as the new dog, and this version of Porthos would stay in Atlantis. He turned with Porthos in his arms and looked out over at the stars. Funny how things work out in Atlantis...

So this is the prompt I chose to start a new AU series for @strangelock221b‘s commissions of a ten fic series. It’s a modern setting AU, set in the world of private investigators and PIs. Some people have similar jobs, some don’t, but generally the Sherlock and Star Trek characters all know each other. And while it’s not evident, it’s set in the US. So please, Enjoy!

Setting Up The Office (A “Bones McCoy, Private Investigator” Story) - Kirk has reservations about McCoy becoming a private investigator...as well as his choice in help.

Kirk looked around the offices of Leonard McCoy, Private Investigator. “Are you sure about this? Like, really really sure?”

McCoy nodded, looking at the walls. It was kind of a moot point having an actual office when so much of what he did could be contracted for online. But there was just something...classic...about a private investigator having an office. Not that he would ever admit he read all that crime noir trashy lit, but there was that component in this equation. “Molly’s going to help.”

Kirk let out a low whistle, shaking his head. “Holmes is going to kill you.”

“Holmes is a jerk,” McCoy said with a shrug. “And besides, he dumped her. Over cell phone, if I remember her drunken ramblings correctly.”

“Yeah, that didn’t go over well in the precinct, her going to your place after he sent her that text. But then he thought you two were screwing around anyway.”

“Like I’d cheat!” Molly yelled from the front office. “Hypocritical oaf of a man.”

“Holmes didn’t cheat on you!” McCoy called out to his best friend. The female one, because the male one was looking amused as hell.

“Not with a woman or a bloke, but with that promotion he did!” Molly huffed that out as she came into the office. “Used me to help him study and then he said he was too bloody busy.”

“Well, as a detective, he--” Kirk stopped talking when Molly glared at him and raised his hands. “Shutting up now.”

“Smart move, Jim,” she said. She crossed her arms. “And what does it matter to Sherlock what I do now? He’s written me off.”

“Because he’s still in love with you,” McCoy said, picking up his license from the box he’d carried into the office hours ago.

“Well, he can piss off because I am no longer in love with him.” She moved to the box and began rummaging around.

“Molly? Personal space?” Kirk asked.

“Bugger off. Leonard has all the nameplates in here,” she murmured. Finally, she pulled one out and her gaze softened. “Leonard, there’s a rose on it.”

“Just because it’s professional doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty. That’s why it’s on pink marble.”

“I swear, you are too good to me.” She leaned across the desk and grabbed the belt of his jeans, pulling him to the edge of the desk so she could kiss his cheek. Then she let go and made her way to the outer office.

“No, Holmes had no reason to think you were in love with his girlfriend,” Kirk deadpanned.

“I’ve known her longer, so we’re...close.” McCoy shrugged. “Remember, if we hadn’t decided to drop out of med school together, you wouldn’t know either of us.”

“When are you going to admit you’re head over heels for her?” Kirk asked, smirking.

“When you tell your partner you’re madly in love with him,” McCoy said, returning the smirk with his own and watching as it was Kirk’s turn to glare.

“Fuck off,” Kirk said. McCoy chuckled at the look on his face. His old partner was pissed as hell. “You said you wouldn’t mention it.”

“Around others, yeah,” McCoy said, Finally he set the license against the wall. “Looks good here, doesn’t it?”

“I guess,” Kirk said, his glare fading into a pout.

“Whatever goes on between you and T’Gai is your business, unless you tell me, but then it stays between us,” McCoy said. “I know while the force is more open it’s weird for there to be gay partners.”

“I’m pan, thank you,” Kirk said. “Look...back to what we were talking about before, are you sure this is a good idea? I mean, you won’t...freeze?”

“Look, I’m still seeing Ella on a weekly basis. That didn’t stop even though I was put out to pasture.”

“Medically retired,” Kirk said.

“Put out to pasture,” McCoy reiterated. “Anyway, point is, I plan on being careful. No situations where I get shot again. I even plan on going to the range with your dumb ass on a more regular basis.”

Kirk shook his head. “Yeah, but...Molly? I mean, if she’s still hung up on Holmes, things could get ugly. He’s the hotshot detective now and there’s times you’re going to cross paths. It could be bad news.”

“I’ll deal with it if it happens but thanks for worrying,” McCoy said before setting down his license and reaching over to clap Kirk on the shoulder. “Now. Make yourself useful and hand me a hammer and a nail?”

Kirk sighed and moved away, reaching for the hammer and the plastic case of nails. McCoy looked down at the license one more time. Come hell or high water, he was going to make this new avenue in his life work, damn it, if it was the last thing he did.
