Tom Hiddleston was given a royal assignment on Thursday evening. An ambassador for the Prince's Trust, the Loki actor, 43, attended the charity's Invest in Futures event, where he relayed a poignant message written by King Charles. 

"I really am so pleased that The Trust's work continues to go from strength to strength, having, in recent years, expanded from its mission in the United Kingdom to now supporting young people in twenty-three countries," read Tom. 

"Celebrating the global impact of this work is an achievement which, I must confess, I could not have dreamed of back in 1976 when I started The Trust, using, at that time, my Royal Navy severance pay when I left the Service to help disadvantaged young people achieve their full potential.

"I am thrilled to say that it has now worked with over one million young people, helping them to start careers, launch businesses and re-engage with education. I am enormously inspired by the determination and commitment of young people, one of whom you will hear from later. They are changemakers; they will shape the world's future and we must support them to realise their dreams."

A momentous occasion for the Prince's Trust, the annual Invest in Futures gala is the charity's principal fundraising event, and this year it was held at The Peninsula London in Belgravia. While King Charles has historically attended the annual event, this year, his letter proved extremely powerful, conveying the importance of the charity's work.  

A star-studded affair, Tom was accompanied by his fiancée Zawe Ashton for the festivities. Posing for photos together, the loved-up couple held hands and stared into each other's eyes. HELLO! even spotted lady in red Zawe telling Tom how "gorgeous" he looked in his tux. 

Rounding out the guest list, Prince's Trust ambassadors Joseph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Naomie Harris, Major Tim Peake, Luke Evans and Myleene Klass were also in attendance. 

Meanwhile, musical duo Rod Stewart and Jools Holland provided the entertainment, performing songs from their newly launched album Swing Fever, before handing the baton to DJ Cuppy.

It's been a royally busy week for A-lister Tom. Just 24 hours before the letter reading, the actor had been photographed meeting with Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace. Attending a reception for the BBC's 500 Words Finalists on Wednesday, Tom appeared engrossed in conversation, enjoying a laugh or two with Camilla, and music star Olivia Dean.

let me set the scene. we’re in the distant-but-not-too-distant future. think like, roughly a century from now, give or take. humanity has gone through quite a lot (insert various global tragedies of choice) and over time it resulted in people closing ranks and defaulting to strict social hierarchies — that ‘if you’re not one of us, you’re against us’ mentality.

resources are harshly regulated. a handful of major players control most of them (this is the bad timeline). there’s a lot of in-fighting and political maneuvering within different factions. everyone in the upper echelon is trying to hold on to their power. the easiest way to do that? securing alliances through marriage. sell the image of a happy couple, cut out all the ugly business talk. you’re all family now, right? you’re all on the same team. (also how likely are you to betray an ally if your kid is stuck in enemy territory?)

thinking about yuzu’s family being old money (relative to the timeline). they’ve got the prestige, the reputation, the connections — they also have a dwindling family treasury. a couple of wrong moves at the wrong time, placing trust in the hands of the wrong people, they’re looking at the very real possibility of a brutal fall from grace.

javi’s family is new money, only been on the scene for the last two decades or so. they stand out like a sore thumb a lot of the time — people don’t really move up social ranks. they’re a rare success story. but money only goes so far, and if they want to keep the vultures from circling, they need allies, quickly.

so. yuzuru’s family has the connections, javi’s family has the money. sadly the daughters of each family are both married/engaged already, so that’s a no go. their sons, though, that just might work. and since ‘cash is king’, it’s decided over the course of four dinners, three galas, two (artificial) seaside lunches, and one very tense boardroom meeting, that yes, yuzuru will marry javier (and of course, there’s a prenup and multiple contracts involved. these kinds of marriages are built to last, even if they have to use what passes for a justice system to enforce it)

does anyone think to have the two actually meet each other? javi’s family offers to set something up, but the hanyu clan decline. there’s no need. yuzuru is a dutiful son, he will not disappoint his family. surely javier is the same? yes? then there shouldn’t be a problem.

thinking about yuzuru working some soul-sucking corporate job, he hates it but he’s also very good at what he does. giving off ‘mount everest’ by labrinth vibes. (but like… he’s still a huge nerd who designs his own software and collects vintage headphones. still good with kids, still determine to live off like, the same two meals of you let him, wants a cat but doesn’t think he’d be able to take care of one properly)

javi doing something less ‘prestigious’, more hands-on, more dangerous. not sure what that is yet, i’m open to suggestions! also refuses to ‘play the game’, isn’t interested in that kind of thing at all. it drives yuzuru crazy. still owns a cat, still has a reputation of leaping from one love to the next, still kind when all is said and done.

yes to javi’s chaotic spanish family!! they get together once a week for sunday brunch and to watch whatever sport the powers that be are funding that week. yuzuru sits in the corner with perfect posture and picks at his food. javi thinks yuzuru is being aloof on purpose, truthfully yuzuru is just overwhelmed. miscommunication abound.

also. power dynamics. like yes, yuzuru knows how to get what he wants. he can do the mind games, the fake smiles, the faux affection (he’s the one who wraps javi’s arm around his waist at events, leans into him, kisses his cheek where the gossip blogs can see). javi wasn’t raised to assume everyone was constantly looking for a weakness, for a chink in the armour. yuzuru should, in theory, be the one holding all the cards. but javi’s family are the ones with the money and the resources. and it grates at yuzuru, that keeping javi happy is the key to his family’s continued success, and javi doesn’t even seem to care about the power that he has between them. yuzuru’s considered murder a couple times — most notably on the morning where javi decided to turn off yuzuru’s alarm for him (‘it was too loud. it was ringing at five am, on a saturday.’) and caused him to show up an unsightly four-minutes-and-twenty-eight-seconds late to a meeting with a major client. sadly, the contracts do have a ‘untimely death’ clause, and they’re pretty iron-clad.

bonus point if it's the first time, in javi's family, that someone doesn't marry out of love. like. if it's a matter of twenty years of tremendous wealth - the whole thing is so recent to them, laura made a very good match but it just happened that they knew each other from before, from fancy-ass boarding school or idk. javi's parents are very much in love. and he's just. left to spend the rest of his life with this guy he's barely met who is clearly not happy to be there. javi understands. he has been raised in that environment, he gets it -- it's just, he's the first to properly participate in the tradition, so nobody in his family can help him with managing it. nobody understands what it's like. he's never had to force anything with anyone to get along. and now there's yuzu, cold, smiling-without-the-eyes, angry yuzu, and what is he meant to do with him???

yuzu's angry not because of his arranged marriage (all of his family have done it for generations), but because for the first time in Hanyu History, he's being sent to the other family's domain (country? city? idk). usually (since it's a hostage situation) the most powerful family provides "shelter:)" to the newly wedded. nobody in generations had to be sent to a random shithole, in his family. they usually hosted the new addition to their clan, not the other way around. it's a clear drop in rank. he feels like merchandise. he complies ofc but god he hates it.
