Golden Oreo

For this post I’d like you to think about a Golden Oreo. Unfortunately I don’t have one with me b/c they’re so good lol. In this post I want to explain a concept that typically goes over our heads also known as the trinity or the classification of God as the Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

The First Cookie: God the Father

If you notice on an Oreo cookie, the first Cookie has the word Oreo on it so that you know it’s the beginning of an Oreo. In the same way when we say God is the father we mean God is the creator, the originator the one who is the beginning and establishes life.

Crème Filling: God the Son

Besides the usual understanding of Son as the offspring of the Father, the origin of the word Son is Soni and Soni means sound. Therefore we can say Jesus is the sound or the word of God. Many of us already know this because of, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14).” But if we look at it beyond Jesus as the flesh of God we realize the word of God is the core of who God is. Basically the sound of God is the crème filling of an Oreo. In other words God sent down the core of who he is to die for our sins. This is a big deal because we’ve all heard a man’s word is all he has. In the same way God’s word is the foundation or identity (Reputation) of who he is. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1).”

All of this to say God sacrificed his identity for our sins (Imagine if Jesus never died ) God risked his entire reputation and left it in the hands of humans who could have distorted his word.

The Final Cookie: God the Holy Spirit

Ahh the “Holy Spirit,” what exactly is it. Let’s break down Holy and Spirit. The origin of Holy is said to be something that cannot be violated. So we know Holy is something that cannot be compromised (diminished or negotiated).

A Spirit is breathe, life or endless being.

When we put those two things together we understand that God is the Breathe of life that cannot be compromised, or destroyed. The Holy Spirit is what seals God as our creator and sound of life. Similar to the last Oreo cookie, God is the Holy Spirit because he holds existence together.

One Cookie: One God

God is not a collection of ghostly figures running around in heaven, just like an Oreo is tangible and real. God is one God made up of descriptions that must go together. Finally, an Oreo cannot be an Oreo without its Name (The Father), its Crème Filling (The Word/Son of God) and it’s Last Cookie (Unchangeable Breathe of God). God is God because he’s the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
