Hey. I don’t like posting this because I like to be a positive person and this is a really cool and positive fandom, but I need to say please avoid melodicalmusic on DeviantArt/doggiebeats on Quotev. Initially I thought it was just someone who was missing the point, but they are far worse and actively harmful. (notes under cut)

melodicalmusic/doggiebeats is the author and illustrator of an au fic named “Velo Life”. At first glance it is harmless, the art is fine. The story revolves around a mask named Pap (a papillon dog) doing things, being an assistant to the monarchy, and dating Fox. Sometimes other masks get chapters, but the overall focus is on her oc, which is fine, as ocs can be good. The problem isn’t conception, it’s execution.

Transphobia: Melodic decided to cast Leopard as a non-binary intersex character. It was a fair design choice, other than the fact she referred to them as a “pseudo-h*rmaphodite”, which is medically outdated, as well as the inclusion of ‘pseudo’ is more offensive than the slur alone. Leopard has biological cubs, despite most intersex (obviously not all) being infertile or unable to carry children showing a lack of research on the topic, as well as it being a very dysphoric situation for many trans and intersex people.

Leopard was referred to as a “quing”, combination “queen” and “king”. Now. Mull over it. Okay stop mulling, because she had every inch to just use “Monarch”, such as “Monarch Leopard”, as well as titles like “Their/Your Majesty”, which works for both kings and queens, so it should have been suitable for Leopard.

Unprompted, she backpedaled saying “But I wanted Leopard in my AU to be a actual female. Cause I think it's for the best. Everyone kinda hated Leopard, but I love everything she does. No not Transgender, just really a female.”. Besides the fact she took it in her own hands to decide that a mask played by Seal was ‘now a cis woman’, she implies that trans women are not women, calling cis women ‘really a female’.

In her fic, the only other trans character is Egg, who is exceptionally ambiguous to being trans, not specifying if Egg is NB, FTM, or if he as well was going to be intersex. She dedicates a chapter to pride month, yet a lot of the focus is on the cishet masks (Pap (her oc), Frog, and Fox), as well as a concerning ship of T-Rex and Poodle, as everyone knows that T-Rex is somewhat coded to be a child, since Jojo was only 16 when she performed. Despite claiming to respect trans people, she only had two trans characters, and decided that one of them wouldn’t be trans anymore because “I admired the high-pitch voice that was fitted for the Leopard, it just suits SO well. Even if the show kept going, I always hear the digital high vocals.”. Call me crazy, but that’s not a reason to make a man a cis woman.

As a trans man, Leopard was disgustingly handled in the show with the panel first week, accusing Seal of ‘tricking’ them for wearing drag and acting feminine (not acting like a woman, acting feminine), and I hoped it wouldn’t leech into the fandom. Clearly I was wrong.

Homophobia: Where to start with this. As stated, she changed Leopard from a NB intersex character (in her original canon) to a cis woman. In the fic, Leopard is married to Nick. I don’t need to tell you that she made Nick x Leopard into a straight ship. She made the only gay ship tease in the show into a straight ship. I wish it ended here.

Somali, an oc, has potential. Not here, but he has it. Somali is gay. If you think I’m undermining his character, that is his character. Somali likes magic and theater, and is very flamboyant. He is a gay walking stereotype. In his description, it is stated, “The story is that he turnout Gay, Of course Pappy was Supportive, but she knew it wasn't fair, especially through everything she's involved.” If you need me to translate: Somali broke up with Pap after realizing he was gay. Pap saw that as unfair, and that she was a victim of being lead on because he found out he was gay. Yes, Pap is making Somali being gay and dealing with his internalized homophobia… about herself. She goes to the point of calling him her nemesis. Which is a... toxic way to refer to someone who broke up with you on clean terms.

Somali eventually teams up with Rottweiler, Pap’s brother (who abuses her, despite it being out of character in every means) and is. Evil, and he hates Pap now apparently. We can’t go a minute without the gay oc being evil huh. Somali being gay doesn’t add to the story, it just suggests the only reason he stopped dating her was that he was gay (which is bad and offensive in Pap’s eyes) because he is not shown to fall for Rottweiler, or have any crushes on other male masks. His homosexuality is an accessory tag, and it’s really not a good one when he is the only gay character with a lot of lines.

Every. Character. That. Is. LGBT. Is. A. Token. Ice Cream and T-Rex are the closest ones to not be tokens, as Ice Cream has a job at a diner and T-Rex gets lines, but T-Rex is only used for exposition, and again, a child shipped with an adult mask. Peacock’s and Rabbit’s role outside of the first chapter is to have a rocky relationship, being forced to rekindle their relationship after Pap tells them to do so for a love festival. Several of the female masks are bisexual or lesbians, but they add so little to the plot, that I don’t even remember which ships are which. Every [since Leopard used to not be but is now] main character is heterosexual and cis (Pap, Fox, Leopard, Kitty, Frog, Turtle, Rottweiler) which doesn’t imply that she actually is that pro LGBT. Drawings of hers for Ice Cream and Egg are captioned “Just something Gay for you guys to see~” (fetishizing much?).

Ableism: One of the ocs in the fic is a Red Panda, who is related to Panda (don’t be confused, animal wise they are not closely related at all). In the fic, Red Panda suffers from PTSD due to an accident which caused her to be disabled in the leg, who uses a single-leg-crutch to walk. The physical disability is handled well enough, not being a hindrance or made fun of, but her personality is the worst. Red Panda is a cowardly and sniveling child, scared of her own shadow and completely incompetent. Her PTSD is very thinly written, not giving her any specific triggers or reasons for anxiety. If her PTSD was presented with her being afraid of entering a vehicle or certain smells that would relate to the accident (rubber, smoke, leather), it would make sense, but Red Panda is scared of everything. On a dare, Frog tells Kitty to impersonate a mask. Kitty impersonates Red Panda, making fun of her cowardice, which can be an actual attack on people who have PTSD (like myself), Kitty justifies herself, saying she couldn’t think of anyone else, Red Panda immediately accepting it. Being a minor character, there is no time for her to develop, and the Red Panda we were presented with is already a mess.

In the same chapter that Red Panda is introduced, Axolotl (mentioned a lot later) dares Fox to remove his prosthetic arm. I don’t need to need prosthesis to know that asking someone to take their ARM OFF is unfunny and uncalled for. Pap, Fox’s girlfriend, decided to take the time and kissed the welt, commenting that it “looked interesting”. Don’t- don’t do that. Don’t kiss people’s scars or cuts or welts or anything related to their disability, especially without permission. Axolotl was being ablest to Fox and somehow Fox didn’t know better and forgot to tell her she was acting uncivilized, despite being one of the smartest masks in the canon.

Condoning Incest: One of the ocs in the fic is an Axolotl. The axolotl is Frog’s biological sister, Frog having Turtle as his adopted brother, which in fic Turtle is stated to have been adopted in Frog’s family for over 15 years. In the axolotl’s description, it is stated “Though Axolotl is a relative of him, She deeply has a crush on him. Which maybe weird but hey, Turtle's Adopted. So not a big deal”. No, it’s not ‘ok’ because Turtle is adopted, especially since they’ve been related 15 years. It’s not like Frog and Turtle are ‘close enough to be brothers’, they are related by law. Axolotl is presented to quirkily force a kiss on Turtle in one chapter, which she is not punished or condoned for 1. Sexually harassing him 2. Committing incest and putting it on his conscience, OTHER than her getting salmonella, which all characters who kiss Turtle are prone to getting (Ice Cream in chapter was stated to have fallen sick after kissing him). Axolotl is treated completely fine and Turtle has her in his band, regardless of the fact she is predatory towards him. Additionally, Axolotl is treated as a babysitter towards all of the children on the island, despite, again, sexually harassing someone she is related to, which people saw happen.

Incest is a harmful thing that can cause people to self-deprecate themselves or worse. It’s not a quirky “ha ha, they kissed, so funny!” because Axolotl DOES want to prey on Turtle. She DOES want to be with him. She didn’t CARE about his feelings, in the moment or after. It wasn’t a cute kiss on the cheek, and it wasn’t funny.

Fetishization of Japan: Pap is a weeeeeb. Pap is stated to be Japanese (her last name being Akita) which is confusing on account of the fact Rottweiler and her family are not shown to be Japanese? Anyways, Pap uses broken Japanese, completely unsparingly, and just says it in a way she expects everyone to understand her. It’s not Engrish, she speaks English well enough, she just adds it in sentences, and Melodic doesn’t even offer translations at the end of chapters. Phrases used are arbitrary, one some reason ending with “translator”. Entire sentences can be in Japanese, making the story hard to follow. If this fetishization of the language was limited to Pap, it’d be more tolerable, but other masks, ones who have no reason to know Japanese, use it as well, equally poorly.

Xenophobia: Some reason the USA and UK masks are all good guys (other than Rottweiler) but the German masks live in a ‘badlands’. German Monster teams up with Rottweiler and is his girlfriend, while German Dragon sexually assaults Kitty when they go through the badlands. There is no rhyme or reason why they are the scapegoated ‘evil’ series, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Inability to handle criticism: I tried. I tried my absolute best to tell her that what she was writing was harmful and past borderline offensive. I told her that Somali was a gay stereotype and very poorly presented, not getting a personality out of ‘likes singing’ (which all masks do…) and ‘is evil gay’. She didn’t care. We told her she was using slurs and that turning a mask played by Seal into a cis woman was offensive and transphobic (as well as Leopard already poorly being handled). She didn’t care.

In fact she more than didn’t care. She called us insensitive and whiny. Quote from her, "Now, I been feeling upset about some Haters/Karens harassing me on my AU ideas. And yes that's dumb.” Karens. You know, the stereotypical older women who hate the gays and trans people and bully people doing their jobs? Karens? Yeah, no. A Karen would be against any characters being trans or gay, insisting the show is for families, not telling them to stop using literal slurs (which have been outdated over 20 years) and to actually write gay characters. She genuinely acts like she can do no wrong and that everyone that doesn’t fawn over her is bad. This has nothing to do with the quality of the writing and the lack of grammar, this is about how she is unapologetically offensive and writing triggering content for the sake of being ‘quirky’.

I’m not saying “go rally against her” or “dox her” or “flame her story”, I’m suggesting please don’t give her attention. She’s clearly a child, and she’s not willing to change. All we can do is limit how much attention she gets until she grows up.

monstrous races

Presenting: options for a very specific illithid, vampire, and skeleton as playable PC races in 5e DnD. No subclasses, because these were written for specific characters.

VAMPIRE

Ages ago, Cisylvanian sorcerers summoned and married the devil-king Zagan, and bore dynasties of children with tainted blood. The result are the Cisylvanian vampires, who differ from other vampires as several ways. First, they are born into vampirism, and organize themselves as families rather than masters and thralls. Second, they lack many powers of other vampires but also many weaknesses. Strong lotion will shield them from the sun, and they can abide running water without much trouble. Cisylvanian vampires rarely stray from their dark forests, as they face stigma from both vampires and regular people who are not used to their peculiarities.

Ability Score Increase: Your Dexterity, Strength and Constitution scores each increase by 1.

Size: Medium.

Speed: 30 feet.

Darkvision: You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Bite Attack: Your unarmed attacks do 1d4 damage.

Empty Veins: You are immune to diseases and the poisoned condition, and resistant to poison damage.

Sunburn: You are vulnerable to fire and radiant damage.

Feeding: When you take a long or short rest, you may feed on the blood of a living creature, who takes a level of exhaustion for the next day. At any time in the next day, you may use this blood to gain advantage on an ability check or save. Feeding during a short rest refreshes this ability. For each week you go without feeding, you take a level of exhaustion.

Languages: You can speak, read, and write English and Infernal.

Shapechange: Starting at 3rd level, once per day, you may transform into a bat, rat, or cat. This animal form is clearly identifiable as you: it shares the shape of your hair or perhaps a distinguishing scar. If you take damage in this form, you revert to normal. At 5th level you gain the option to instead turn into a wolf or a spider.

SKELETON

If you ever knew where you came from, you have forgotten it by now: some wizard or priest animated you long ago, and by now all the flesh has rotted from your bones. You are a walking skeleton, brought to life by dark magic and given intelligence through some fluke of reanimation.

Ability Score Increase: Your Constitution increases by 2, and your Strength increases by 1.

Languages: You speak English and one other of your choice.

Darkvision: Technically you don't see with your eyes, so you can see in darkness.

Dry Bones: You are resistant to piercing and slashing damage, but vulnerable to bludgeoning and thunder damage.

Empty Veins: You are immune to diseases and the poisoned condition, and resistant to poison damage.

Undead Appearance: The living treat you as a monster, but undead will not immediately attack you.

Play Dead: When you take damage, you may use your reaction to fall apart into a pile of bones. In this state you are resistant to all damage except bludgeoning and thunder damage, but you cannot see or hear what is going on around you.

Rest In Pieces: You can detach limbs as a bonus action and continue to control them from up to 10ft away. Reattaching a limb is an action. You are your skull.

ILLITHID

Sometimes, an illithid escapes the grasp of the elder brain and gains a taste for free will, even independence. Sometimes an illithid escapes the Underdark and decides to become a pirate. It happens!

Ability Score Increase: Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Languages: You speak Undercommon and Deep Speech.

Telepathy: You can telepathically communicate with willing creatures within 30ft. At 5th level this increases to 60ft, and at 10th level it increases to 120ft. At 15th level you can telepathically communicate with any being you can perceive. Telepathy does not require a shared language.

Darkvision: You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Tentacles: You may use Intelligence with unarmed attacks. If you grapple a creature, it must make a DC (8+prof bonus+Int mod) Intelligence save or be stunned until the grapple ends.

Mind Blast: You project piercing psionic energy in a 15ft cone in front of yourself. Each creature in this cone must make a DC (8+prof bonus+Int mod) or take 1d8 psychic damage and be stunned for a turn. On a successful save they take half damage and are not stunned. The damage increases to 2d8 at 6th level, 3d8 at 11th level, and 4d8 at 16th level. You may use this ability once per short rest.

Brain Eater: You must eat the brain of an intelligent being at least once per week. You gain some of the memories eaten this way, allowing you to speak a language or gain a proficiency bonus possessed by your victim until you eat a new brain. If you eat the brain of someone with a Intelligence of 15 or higher, you may gain two such bonuses. You may also attempt an Intelligence check to access their other memories, at scaling DC depending on how secretive they were about it. For each week you go without fresh brains, you take a level of exhaustion.

Travelling to King’s Row

Overwatch is set in future earth, approximately 2076, several decades after the Omnic Crisis and we learn through the design of the maps how several countries dealt with the attacks from omnics and Talon (a terrorist organisation bent on wreaking havoc in the world) as well as how the fallout has affected their respective countries in present time. First up we’re visiting England, London. A map by the name of King’s Row and it was one of the first few maps that were developed for the game because of course, London’s always been an interesting and iconic location in pop culture.

Image by Blizzard Entertainment via Blizzard Gamepress The image above shows a gloomy, rainy (these two adjectives seem to be what most English people use to describe London in real life as well apparently) and futuristic depiction of England. Right off the bat, you can immediately tell it is England due to the iconic items that can only be found in England such as the red double decker bus, Big Ben, the architecture of the buildings and not pictured here but the red telephone booth. To the left you’ll see a bookshop and the right a theatre named The Meridian where Tekhartha Mondatta (a pacifist omnic and the leader of the Shambali, a group comprised of omnics that achieved ‘spiritual awakening’) was preaching about omnics and humans coexisting before he was unfortunately assassinated by Widowmaker, an agent of Talon (that terrorist organization I mentioned earlier).

Mondatta gets shot by Widowmaker, inches away from the vehicle that would have driven him away to safety. Image by Blizzard Entertainment via Overwatch Animated Short | “Alive” After this unfortunate incident, a statue of Mondatta holding a little girl’s hand was erected in the middle of the city for all to see, especially for tourists as the statue is placed directly in front of the Alderworth Hotel. The statue now serves as a reminder and hope for many people around the world, a hope that one day humanity will come to live in peace with their omnic brethren.

Image by Blizzard Entertainment via Blizzard Gamepress Mondatta was a symbol of hope for many omnics around the globe, but particularly for those in King’s Row due to the mistreatment of omnics there. To provide a little context and backstory, since the end of the Omnic Crisis, omnic-human relations have tensed up with humans unwilling to believe these omnics wouldn’t rise above and plot against humanity again. This tension is particularly present in King’s Row, with its citizens treating omnics as lesser than; not wanting omnics to have equal rights as humans. Riots and protests broke out and the omnics were eventually driven to live beneath the city, literally beneath the city.

Image by Blizzard Entertainment via Overwatch Archive Fandom The tensions later eased following Mondatta’s teachings in King’s Row, so much so that Mondatta was invited to a groundbreaking ceremony of Turing Green SWO (a development plan for omnic housing in King’s Row).

Image by Blizzard Entertainment via Overwatch Fandom The terrorist group was defeated by Overwatch agents but the damage has been done, the tension amongst omnics and humans have never been higher at this point in time until Mondatta’s assasination, which had further escalated it. Side note: The fogginess and the overall atmosphere feels “England”. I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s very steampunky, very industrial feeling. Well that’s also because the last part of the map is literally an industrial power plant.

Smash Bros University (Au Idea)

(MOD: I know this is a thing but I would like to do an AU too)

Also if you guys got any other idea for the Smash Students just tell me

The school is like really big! It has a pool for swimmers and swim team. Huge track field as the field has the fighting stage under it where the tournaments and event happens but also used to train fight skills. Huge jungle like forest next to the school that full of wildlife and filled with wild Pokemon. 4 Building that is part of the school (reason why it’s big) with other smaller buildings. Next too the school is the Smash Jr building which is for younger smash fighters/challengers. Principles are Crazy and Master Hand, (other recognizable video game characters are like background characters but can be talk to the known characters more. (and NO GOKU! we got Ryu.)). Huge science dome with a telescope to see the stars and far away planets in the astronomy room.

Mario - Has brother name Luigi, has job as builder, cleaner, and plumbing too, take health class which are good to get job as doctor, can’t eat mushrooms which mistaken for drug mushroom, Fight Bowser alot, Sonic rival when it comes to Olympic sport events, once got trouble setting the theater on fire by accident, got in trouble again for taking control of Master Hand with Cappy making no class and party one day, Cappy hangs around with him and always change to different hats for some special events, He told everyone that Luigi tells the truth about ghost but no one believes him even though he tells them he got stuck in a painting frame,

Donkey Kong - Leader of the DK Crew, has a coconut gun that can fire in spurt which is gonna hurt if it hits you, bigger, faster, and stronger too, Loves bananas which he has huge piles of bananas back home, protects the crystal coconut, Mario and DK are friends and rivals ever since DK took Pauline long ago, He is one of the best drum players but play drum with his hand no drum sticks, only wears a tie which people think he’s naked but with tie is ok but still think he kind of naked, studying to go to big company business,

Link - Handsome Hylian and cool dude, also ride motorcycle and ride horse too and some other animals, as a kid he always throws barrels and pots alot, Link protect her from Ganon, Hold onto a sword even though it’s bad to use weapons in building but he use it in battles, He’s a great cook getting fresh food and meat, silent dude but talk rarely sometimes, can ride any animals and a cool looking motorcycle, Pit jelly at him, has a pet wolf name Twilight, Zelda caught him cross dressing with Kirby which made her happy triggered to get the girls together and bring dresses and clothes for both of them to dress in, He learn to take selfies from Zelda, 2Beat Ganon Bowser King DDD and Everyone with a Stick, He can also see ghost,

Samus (Zero Suit) - Samus Aran, people thought she was just some guy in her suit but turns out by surprise she was a girl, travel different planets and galaxies, her jet boots kind of made her popular with other girls and guys too, if someone try to kidnap her she will fight and paralyze them also use her plasma whip, She find Little Mac cute, the most flexible person more flexible then Wii Fit Trainer (cause her morph ball), has a Metroid with her as a pet or as like a baby boi which love to cuddle and land on other people head, if Baby (the metroid) land on other head and start sucking on their head he’s punish on a time out in a jar, go to bars to drink, she’s an animal in bed (act like a cat asking to be pet and feed her meme you thinking something else lol), pass Snake easy which is her favorite teacher, Pikachu Trainer are very good friends and Pikachu loves Samus, She also fell in love of Pikachu trainer (male) Pichu cousin which she likes to hug him alot, Reason she here cause Ridely is in the area and she is hunting him down for revenge for her parents but made good allies /friends along the way, She work out at the gym!, she is just like Tony Stark but each suit has different purpose though her old suit is gone and she use a new suit the “Metroid Armor” due to having parasite in the old suit which she will miss but came back becoming a monster, she also fight dark samus too,

If the majority interpretation is correct, Satan is first mentioned as a serpent in the Garden of Eden. A serpent or worm in English has also traditionally been a term for a dragon in historical mythology.

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Satan is also said to be a dragon.

Revelation 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

How was Satan found to be in the Garden of Eden? Judging by his appearance he filled some kind of role of priest as Aaron and his sons would eventually do. He is said to be a cherub, an animal type of creature, with cherubs as perhaps the spiritual prototypes of all creatures, with Satan described in Job 41 as reptilian. See Ezekiel, chapters 1 and 10 for descriptions of cherubs. The Bible often does double and triple duty, describing one person or one event while also describing others prophetically. Here, in this passage, the King of Tyre is addressed but, as he is likened to Satan, Satan is described.

Ezekiel 28:11 ¶ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Although many modern, evangelical and fundamentalist commentators have Satan falling from grace in some mystical, unexplained time between verses 1 and 2 of the first chapter of Genesis we only have evidence of his attempting to subvert God’s order starting in Genesis, chapter 3. Of course, God knew his heart even though his iniquity was not made apparent until then. His pride led him.

In another prophecy against the King of Babylon this time, Satan, under another title of his, Lucifer, is described by way of his thinking.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

And yet, we know from reading the first two chapters of Job that he cannot go beyond what God allows and we know that he can be used by God, unleashed, if you will, for a purpose.

2Sa 24:1 And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

1Ch 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

It is clear from reading Job and these two verses and contexts that a human being will likely not be able to tell if a thing is done directly by God or if it is a matter of Satan’s hatred and rage being used or allowed for a purpose.

Satan tried to divert Christ from His mission by tempting Him to take the crown first, before the cross. Christ resists being crowned a king by the Jews until it was time.

Luke 4:1 ¶ And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

John 6:15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.

By now, at this point, Satan appears to have decided to simply try to destroy Christ. Perhaps it is from desperation, or rage, or pride alone but Satan is out on a very weak limb here. As John the Baptist had asked if there would be another Messiah to come in Luke 7, as there may have been a belief in more than one Messiah, a conqueror and a sufferer at least, Satan also does not have 100% understanding of God’s purpose. God keeps quite a lot close and only reveals things when He is ready.

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

So, whatever Satan’s motivation here, we know he is doomed. Only immense pride can blind someone so completely to reality. For human examples see Adolf Hitler in his invasion of Russia or any number of organized crime figures who eventually end up murdered or imprisoned for life.

The Loch Ness Monster attempts to make love to a Ford Ranger.

Nat had to admit, some part of her had almost wanted to believe that Sir Stephen really was a medieval knight, maybe turned to stone and now restored. It didn't matter that there was no historical record of him or that he didn't speak the right kind of English, it would just be so romantic, and she wouldn't have to worry about whether anything made sense. Who needed sense when there was actual magic involved? Finding out that the statues really were not only modern, but last-few-months modern, was both a vindication and oddly disappointing.

“Well?” Nat asked. “Don't keep us in suspense.”

DI Carter scrolled down the email she'd recieved. “They were made by a guy named Aaron Apple. He makes posh garden ornaments out of a workshop on Perth Road in Dundee.”

Nat let that sink in, and the mix of emotions she'd been feeling faded away into a startled annoyance. “Are you telling me,” she asked, “that the whole time, those two statues were carved literally across the street from where I work?”

“Evidently,” said Carter. “So if we want to find out who Sir Steve is,” she nodded to the mystery man, “I guess we'll have to ask Aaron Apple. He's coming up to Inverness tomorrow to talk to the police about Mr. Pierce's statues.”

“We'd better be there, then,” Nat decided. “Maybe when he leaves he can give me a ride back to Dundee.” How would her car insurance company classify a vehicle destroyed by being buried in a collapsed building? Did her policy cover terrorist acts? She'd never actually looked. “And we'll need Sir Steve, obviously.” If the statues were modern, then their best theory for his identity was still as the model for them.

Sir Stephen himself scraped the last crumbs off his plate and at them, then set down his cutlery. “I will accompany you back to Inverness,” he said, “but I am nearly well again, and I must soon gather my allies and resume following the Red Death, so that he cannot find the Grail. Therefore, I must ask for the return of my arms and armor. Where are they?”

“They're being held for safekeeping on Burnett Road,” said DI Carter. “If you want to press charges against your assailant, we might need to keep them as evidence.”

“What does it mean to press charges?” Sir Stephen asked.

“Take him to court,” Carter clarified. “Put him in jail, or... what did they do with criminals back then?” She looked at Natasha for the answer.

“Stick him in the stocks and let people throw fruit at him?” Nat suggested.

“Oh, I like that,” said Wilson. “Why don't we do that anymore?”

Sir Stephen shook his head. “If it were truly the Red Death and Zola, I want no such easy fate,” he said. “I prefer to meet them in single combat.”

“I don't think that's legal,” Natasha observed.

“I wouldn't be so sure,” DI Carter warned. “You wouldn't believe some of the medieval laws that are still on the books in this country.”

“Like what?” Dr. Wilson asked, interested.

“Like if a dead whale washes ashore in Scotland, the head is considered the property of the king, and the tail of the queen,” Carter replied. “That was a bit of a problem a couple of years ago, actually, when a guy found one and wanted the bones for his artwork.”

“What happened?” asked Dr. Wilson.

“Once somebody actually contacted the Queen, she just gave it to him,” DI Carter replied. “I mean, what's she going to do with it?”

A car alarm began going off somewhere outside. Everybody ignored it, including Sir Stephen, who must have thought it couldn't be very important if nobody else were bothered by it. “I beg your pardon,” he said, “but my things?”

“Right.” DI Carter sat up to explain the process to him. “If you don't want it held as evidence, you can get your stuff back by requesting the voucher. Since you were unconscious we'll have kept it at the station. They'll have a list of what we've got that's yours, and all you have to do is ask for it.”

“Then I must insist on doing that first,” said Sir Stephen. “I will need them for when I meet the Red Death again.”

“What makes you so sure it was the Red Death who hurt you?” asked DI Carter.

“The last thing I remember before waking up in your hospital was battle with him,” Sir Stephen said, as if this were a very stupid question. When he put it that way, maybe it was.

The alarm outside was suddenly joined by two or three others, one a wailing alarm like the first and the other a repeatedly honking horn. A siren became audible, drawing closer and closer, and people in the hotel common room were starting to sit up and look around.

“Well, if we're all going back to Inverness together,” said Dr. Wilson, “we can...”

The door of the hotel flew open and a woman ran inside. “Darren!” she shouted. “The Mum's come for her bairn!”

“What?” an Irish accent demanded. A group of four men had been playing cards in a corner – now they all jumped to their feet. Natasha recognized one of them, with a set of wrap sunglasses pushed up above his forehead, as the man from the news who claimed to have captured the monster. He looked at the woman in thedoorway, who nodded, and the man panicked. He shoved his companions of the way, dashed out the door, and went scurrying off down the hill yelling, “no! No!” The woman ran after him.

Nobody else said anything, but nobody in the hotel – tourists, employees, reporters, or men who thought they were eleventh-century knights – wanted to miss whatever was going on. Everyone got up, en masse, and followed the cryptozoologists to see what had happened.

What greeted them in the car park was almost beyond belief. Vehicle lights were flashing and alarms were blaring, and the cryptozoologist was standing there with a flashlight, yelling and waving it in an attempt to scare away a much larger version of his captive creature. This animal was the size of a rhinoceros, with a seal-like head on a four-foot neck, broad pectoral flippers and narrow hind ones with no tail. It was about as close as a marine mammal could get to the dinosaur shape people thought of as the Loch Ness Monster, and it was not at all interested in the chaos around it. It was halfway up on the truck, rocking the vehicle as if it were trying to mate with it.

Nobody said anything. There was nothing that could possibly be said.

The creature continued to lunge against the truck until it knocked it on its side, and the cage with the baby creature in it rolled out. The juvenile was now barking excitedly, whether in fear or pain or just calling for its mother was impossible to say. It continued to make noise as the adult rolled the cage around the car park, pushing vehicles aside and setting off more and more alarms, until it finally broke open and the young creature inside was free.

“Stop! Stop!” the monster-hunter ordered helplessly, and then was force to dive out of the way as both creatures began flopping their way back down the slope, south towards the River Moriston. If he hadn't, they would simply have bowled him right over.

The rest of the people who'd come out of the hotel – and a number of other houses and buildings nearby – were just standing around staring. Natasha took a couple of steps backwards to rejoin her own party.

“Well,” said Dr. Wilson, licking his lips. “I guess that happened.”

Slowly, the crowd dispersed – leaving Darren the cryptozoologist sobbing in the car park, with his female friend trying tocomfort him – and Nat and the others started back up the hill to the hotel.

“Do you call that evidence of monsters?” Sir Stephen asked DI Carter, smiling.

“I would say that particular lead has definitely brought me to some kind of reality,” she replied, a little dazed, “but I don't know what kind.”

They walked slowly back up to the hotel, and arrived to find a red caravan in the driveway out front. The horn honked, a window came down, and a silver-haired black woman leaned out to wave to them.

“Sam!” she called.

Dr. Wilson's face brightened. “Mum!” he said, waving to her. “I told you, you didn't have to run out here. I can get an Uber!”

“No reason for you to have to pay for an Uber when I can get you,” Mrs. Wilson replied firmly. She took off her seat belt and opened her arms, and Dr. Wilson went up to give her a hug. “I'm so glad you're all right,” she said. “I could see all the dust hanging over the city, and when I realized where it was coming from I nearly had a heart attack!”

“I'm fine, Mum,” he assured her. “I'm fine. I'm thinking about renewing my helicopter license.”

“That might be a good idea,” Mrs. Wilson agreed. “Now, you can't refuse a ride now that I'm here, so grab your stuff and get in.” She looked past him at the rest of the group. “Do your friends want to come? I have room.”

“I would be much obliged,” said Sir Stephen. “I do not know what has become of my horse.”

“Same,” said Natasha, deadpan.

Dr. Wilson opened the back door of the van for them. “Everybody, this is my mother, Darlene. Mum, this is Detective Inspector Sharon Carter from Inverness, Dr. Natalie Rushman from Dundee, and, uh.. Sir Steve, he's one of my patients.”

“Delighted to meet you all,” Mrs. Wilson said. She was in her sixties, with her hair very short and big chandelier earrings, and a bright smile in a face full of laugh lines. “I imagine you've had a very exciting evening.”

“You might say that,” said Dr. Wilson.

“We got to watch the Loch Ness Monster shag a lorry,” said DI Carter.

The smile on Mrs. Wilson's face faded as she tried to figure out what that meant. When nobody offered any evidence that it was a joke, she just shrugged and started the van's engine. “Well, it's not every day you see that,” she said.

It was a forty-five minute drive from Invermoriston back up to Inverness on the A82, and for almost the entire trip the road ran along the top of an embankment that plunged down into the Loch itself on their right. Mrs. Wilson kept up a steady stream of chatter about various things, and her son occasionally answered her questions or repeated that no, he was not dating at the moment and was really too busy to think about it. Everybody else just sat staring out their windows at the dark waters of the lake, hoping to see some sign of life. If anyone did, they didn't mention it.

At nearly two in the morning they arrived in the city, and the group split in two. Mrs. Wilson dropped her son off at his own flat, and Sir Stephen got out with him. Nat wondered if they'd go to bed right away, or if Sir Stephen would keep Dr. Wilson up late telling more of the fantastical story of his life. DI Carter then gave Mrs. Wilson directions to her own small house, where the woman let her and Natasha out.

“It was lovely meeting you,” Mrs. Wilson said. “I don't know if you heard, but Sam hasn't had a girlfriend in about six months now, and...”

“He does seem like a nice guy, Mrs. Wilson,” said DI Carter. “Good night.”

Natasha had used to be very good at going without sleep, but a few years of living on a normal person's schedule had undone some of her training. She was yawning as they went indoors. She hadn't asked if she could spent the night at Carter's, and Carter hadn't offered. Both of them simply seemed to accept that it would happen.

“You want anything to eat?” Carter asked.

“No, I'd rather go straight to bed,” Natasha replied.

“Me, too,” Carter admitted. She pulled some cushions off the sofa so she could fold it out for Nat to sleep on. “I hope we get this all figured out,” she said. “Who is this nutter and what has he got to do with Mr. Pierce, what happened to Mr. Pierce and statues and goblins and monsters and... ugh.” She shook her head. “Usually I want to know what's going on so that those who deserve it can get justice. With this mess I just want to figure it out because I'll be furious if I never get an answer.”

“Yeah,” said Natasha. “Hopefully this Apple guy will have some answers.” If he didn't, she had no idea who would. Even if he could tell them who Sir Stephen really was, though... why were the statues so important? Who was Zola? Where was Mr. Pierce and who or what had destroyed the hospital? This was not a simple mystery, and there would be no simple answers.

“Hey,” she said, as Carter started to leave the room. “Uh... has anybody told Sir Steve that it's not 1066 anymore, or does he just think Scotland is a country of brilliant engineers while England's in the middle ages?”

“I sure didn't tell him,” Carter replied.

“Somebody's going to have to,” Natasha said with a frown.

“Well,” Carter stifled a yawn. “That'll be fun, too.”

Welcome, hello, G’Day, hi, we are glad to announce the latest episode from Nerds Amalgamated is here. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it for you. Also as Supanova Brisbane has now happened we have to say thank you to all those who stopped by the booth, it was fantastic to meet you all. We hope everyone enjoyed the week end and have lots of photos to remember how cool it was. It was awesome seeing so many amazing cosplayers and catching up with our friends from Comics2Movies, the Sons of Obiwan, Jamie Johnson, Super Tee, Cyanide Pop Press among so many others.

First up this week we have facial recognition drones being utilised by Police Scotland to help find people who get lost. That’s right folks, AI drones using facial recognition to find individuals. Now, we know what you are thinking, hang on, this is a problem, next we know it will be used for… You will need to listen in to find out more. But we are sure you will enjoy it and have a laugh.

Second, we have news that is promising for game developers and gamers all over the world. Yep, that is a bold claim, but we are sure you will agree when you hear it. Those legends at Take Two have discussed the future of gaming and the expectations of a drop in the costs of game development. What is suggested is great and worth looking forward to. We have some fun on this topic and really get into it.

Our third topic for the week is about Stargate Command. No, the Goa'uld aren’t attacking, and the Wraith haven’t found the way through the Stargate to our universe. No, it is sad news, but possibly good news also. That’s right, a little bit of good news to look forward to that off sets the bad news. Now for the fans of Stargate this news is pretty big, and for those who need to evolve their appreciation then you better hurry up. The Professor and Buck are now contemplating a marathon viewing based on this news. Want to know what this news is you know what to do.

Protests erupted last yesterday in the Sherman Park neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hours after the fatal police shooting of a 23 year old man by MPD the police claim was fleeing a vehicle with a gun. Sherman Park has been witness to increased tension with police and the growth of a community watch program called #WeAllWeGot. The riots that grew from the protests ended up smashing a police vehicle, burning vehicles (including a patrol car), torching a BMO bank and 4 other businesses, including a BP gas station that has been the site of previous tension. Here is an announcement concerning Siddique Abdullah Hasan, who has been targeted by prison officials and COs in direct relation to the September 9th prisoner work stoppage. He was recently visited by the FBI in prison and placed in solitary confinement. This is from itsgoingdown.org:

"Around noon eastern time on August 11th, Hasan got word out through lawyers that he was doing fine and that if anyone wanted to correspond with him they should include a stamp for the reply since he could not go to the [jpay] kiosk.

Hasan has access to postal mail, and presumably to JPay, but not the kiosk machine, so if you write him an email (and visit JPay.com to find out how if you don’t already) be sure to click the “include a stamp for reply” box before sending.

On August 1, 2016, following rebellion in one of the dorms, the riot squad attacked individuals at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama, placing multiple individuals in segregation. In violation of Department of Corrections policy, the prisoners have not received a 72-hour investigation notice of the reason for their being placed in segregation, and have not had their personal property returned. The comrades have had to go without shoes, clothing, deodorant, and toothbrushes, and have not had access to their addresses and phone numbers.

Call Warden Mitchell and demand that those put in segregation after the recent riot be released and have their property returned.

These are the words of Laron McKinley Bey, who is a prisoner in Waupun who is participating in the ongoing hunger strike there, to protest the conditions under which they are forced to live:

"In a nation that would not tolerate shutting in zoo animals 23-24 hours per day the State of Wisconsin has no compunction confining prisoners to indefinite isolative Administrative Confinement (AC) alone in a parking-space size cell for 164 of the 168 hour week. Such prolonged social, environmental, and occupational isolation and lack of stimulation is well known to pose a substantial risk of harm to mental and physical health.

Norman Uhuru Green and I, 2 of the longest standing Wisconsin prisoners held in this type of endless isolation at 18 years, and nearly 28 years respectively, together with Cesar DeLeon, form the 3 remaining original ‘Dying to Live’ movement hunger strikers who continue to refuse to eat or drink in hopes of forcing an end to the state’s practice of indeterminate seclusion.

On June 7, 2016, a group of 10 Wisconsin prisoners in solitary confinement at the Waupun and Columbia correctional institutions began refusing nourishment to expose the inhumane conditions of their confinement, and to facilitate dignified treatment of all humans. Within a few weeks the Department of Corrections had obtained court orders to force-feed Uhuru, DeLeon, and I 3 times daily which entails being placed in full restraints, and then strapped into a ‘restraint chair’ and having a nasal-gastro tube inserted in one nostril to the stomach where a liquid mixture of nutrition is funneled. Besides violating the sanctity of our bodies, this procedure is an invalid state response to a dignified struggle and it can cause significant internal injury.

Despite this, our strength and morale remains high, and we are determined until we see substantive change.

Among our reasonable demands are a 1 year cap on the length of AC, and a 15 day cap on punitive isolation. A coalition for support of prisoners on the outside has carried our reasonable demands to the DOC officials and state legislation, which may lead to proposed legislation on a negotiated settlement."
