Monarch: King Albert II (Belgium) Reign: 9th August 1993 - 21st July 2013 Process of abdication: Signing of an Act of Abdication which was countersigned by the Minister of Justice, with both signatures being required to ratify the Act. Life after abdication: King Albert is by courtesy known as His Majesty King Albert II, his official title as monarch having been His Majesty The King of the Belgians. He continues to live in Belvédère, the home he occupied throughout his reign after he opted not to move into the monarch's official residence, the Palace of Laeken. As per regulation, he is entitled to a state allowance for life. Interestingly, regulation states that this allowance cannot be combined with any other sources of taxable income. His health has worsened in recent years but he still makes appearances at major events where possible, and his wife Paola retains a public role and patronages.

KING GEORGE FOR YOUNG ENGLAND

A delightful picture taken at the boxing championships finals of the London Federation o Boys’ Club last week. After watching several of the bouts with obvious appreciation of the really first-class style, strategy, courage and sportsmanship displayed, H.M. the King presented the prizes, amidst the most prolonged and wholehearted hurrahing ever heard at the Albert Hall. It was indeed a night of nights for the young members of one of London’s finest forcing houses of future John Bulls.
