D: Funny choice of words but nah. I want her to keep winning in this industry. But I also want what’s owed to me.

Hi Mic! Thanks for sending some fic ask game questions :)

16: Do you stick to canon when you write characters and fics? I try my best to stick to canon portrayal of characters. I avoid fics where the characters are really OOC or have been changed so much they don't even feel the same. My goal is always to take the canon elements of a character (their core belief systems, their reactions in certain types of situations, how they treat people, how they speak, etc) and put it into my little situations.

That said, I love writing canon divergent fics and AUs. For me, half the fun of writing fic is seeing what kinds of crazy situations I can put a character in while still keeping that character who they are at their core.

24: Which fic of yours do you wish people would ask about more? Why?

The answer to this question is almost always going to be the longer fics I've written because I put so much time into them so I want everyone to read them.

Feels Like Magic - this fic means so much to me. I love magic AUs and I love the world and it was so much fun to write, even if it took me a couple of months. (buddie fic)

Baby On Board - this fic was my modern steddie AU I poured so much into and love so much. I feel like there aren't that many modern Steddie fics so I wrote it mostly for me, but I'd love for more people to read it.

it hurts to hope for more - i feel like I talk about this fic all the time, but that's probably because it's one of my favourites that I've written. I really loved writing Buck and Eddie in relationships with women that they were happy in, even if they didn't work out. And I loved giving Natalia and Marisol some more backstory and personality that we've gotten in the show. Plus, writing that fic was really cathartic for me.

5: Share a snippet that you’re proud of from an upcoming fic/chapter.

This is from my NHL AU - I'm trying to weave some canon elements into the story while still having it make sense for this universe and I'm pretty proud of how this part turned out. It's got Eddie telling a racist that his mom is Swedish so he can try to use that part and it's got Eddie fighting.

Eddie hasn’t gotten in a fight since he joined the Kings. They’re a team built on skill and speed, not on old school heavy hockey like Detroit was when Eddie played for them. Eddie had always been the outlier on that team because he was almost all skill and speed, just skill and speed with a killer right hook.  “Who the fuck do you think you are?” Eddie asks as his first connects with Deangelo’s face. “You think racism is fun? You think initially running the goalie is acceptable?” Buck doesn’t hear or see the rest of the fight, he’s too busy getting tangled up with two other Hurricanes trying to keep them away from Eddie and Deangelo. He’s not much of a fighter, he’s only gotten in two fights in his entire career - one because he fucked a guy’s girlfriend and the other because he rejected a guy’s sister - but he can hold his own.  He’s nothing compared to Eddie though. By the time the refs separate all of them and figure out the penalties, Eddie’s knuckles are a little bloody and Deangelo’s nose might be broken. Buck would feel bad if he hadn’t heard at least two other slurs coming out of the guys month after the refs pulled them all apart.  “I can’t believe they didn’t give that fucker a match penalty,” Eddie says, pissing mad as they skate toward the penalty box. “Did you hear what he called Chim?” “No, but I can guess,” Buck shoots back. He’s furious too, but he’s too wrapped up in Eddie’s rage to express his own right now. Eddie, who Buck has never even heard raise his voice except to call for the puck or to change their positioning on the ice. It’s weird to see him now, so out of control.  “Should have known someone like you would have anger issues,” Deangelo calls as he’s escorted to the box. “Where are you even from, Diaz.” “Don’t,” Buck says quietly when they get into the box. He can taste blood in his mouth and his forehead feels warm and wet, but right now he wants to make sure Eddie doesn’t try to put anyone in the hospital. Not that Deangelo doesn’t deserve it.  “My mom’s Swedish, you can pretend it was that half that kicked your racist ass if that makes you feel better,” Eddie yells to Deangelo over the glass in the penalty box.  Buck can’t help the laugh that leaves him, even as he wipes blood off his face. It wasn’t exactly a bench brawl, but it had been pretty close to one. There are four of them in each penalty box, the most Buck has ever been in with, which is a pretty good indication of the level of tension in the ice.

Jared: Samus, due to her having gun-like projectiles being a huge part of her moveset! Jared likes zoning out people via playing the most spammy Samus missle spam ever, really just to see them mald like hell and for them to SD

Devon: LITTLE MAC!!! Devon already knows how to box (and just fistfight in general) really damn good, so seeing a fighting game character that boxes AND is mute, immediately made him click and project onto Little Mac

Ren: Sephiroth, since uhhh the massive ōdachi 🤷‍♀️ Ren is a huge sucker for hyping up his family’s historical/cultural roots, so seeing a character that speaks Japanese and wields that sword, immediately attracted him to being the most sweaty and try-hard Sephiroth main EVER

Deangelo: Ridley, since Deangelo has also been ‘reborn’ as a biomechanical being, and that YES, he too can violently impale people with his body! He really just does just spam down-b to get that sweet spot and THEN he spams side-b

‘John’: He literally cannot play the game without melting the controller in his bare hands, since he gets too excited at having genuine fun and thus his hands begin to heat up and begin to leak his acidic goo ☹️ But if he had to main someone, it’ll probably be male Wii Fit Trainer, since he likes how technical and complex their kit is (plus he finds solace in seeing a character that also has solid white skin/is physically mannequin-like)

‘Mark’: He ALSO literally cannot play the game without melting the controller in his bare hands, but if he had to main someone, it’ll probably be Bowser! He just thinks that a giant flame breathing dragon-turtle looks cool as hell and likes how monstrous Giga Bowser is ESPECIALLY! If he could play the game though, he’ll just spam down b and up b to piss everyone off, before ending up in last place due to SD-ing so much with down b or failing to string somebody off stage with foward air + back air

Lydia: King Dedede since she’s not really into fighting games at all BUT likes funny cutesy mascots a ton, but will probably SD a ton when trying to recover or pull combos off with the gordos. She is a big fan of playing the Spirit Board though, since she goes at her own pace and likes looking up which character spirit come from what game series

When The Sea Meets the Surface

Prelude

There was a longline of Merpeople outside of a castle.  The castle was large with golden towers made of abalone and pillars made of pearl.  The walls of the castle were living coral.  The natural holes in the coral were used as windows and doors.  The Merpeople were swimming threw the main door into the hallways.  The hallways of the castle were rough and there were many sea squirts, anemones, and starfish in the nooks and crannies.  There were also aeolids and sea snails sticking to the walls.  All of the creatures varied in color.

The Merpeople all flowed from different hallways into one room.  The room was filled with the some of the same sea-life as the hallways, but the middle of the room had an old clam shell in the center.  In the center of the shell was a merbaby.  She was lying on top of some sea squirts.

“She’s so beautiful!”

“Our princess,”

“And at only three weeks!”

These were the doting whispers of the citizens of Lantus as they peered at their new princess.  Princess Cordelia had been born a few weeks ago to the monarchs of Lantus, Queen Tanaquil and King Deangelo.  The princess looked at the faces above her shell and smiled.  Her happiness never fading the entire time she was awake.  Standing by the shell were her parents.

Princess Cordelia did not look much like her parents at all.  Her mother, Queen Tanaquil had long fiery red hair that curled wildly, pale green eyes, pale skin with complementary freckles, long red eyelashes, a delicate jaw line with a tiny nose to accompany it, and pale green tail that matched her eyes.  The Queen had her wave birthmark on the inside of her elbow and a cuttlefish birthmark on her right collarbone.

Cordelia’s father, King Deangelo, had hair that was halfway between blonde and brown, brown eyes that had a dark outline, clear tan skin, short eyelashes that were the same mix of color as his hair, a strong jawline with an overly large nose, and dark brown tail.  The king had his wave birthmark just below his wrist and a serpent star birthmark on the back of his left shoulder.

Princess Cordelia, however, had golden hair that curled in concise waves that appeared to curl over deliberately, silver eyes, her mother’s pale skin and delicate jawline, a seemingly perfect nose, and a golden tail that matched her hair.  The princess’s hair could not simply be described as blonde, but a glistening, vibrant gold.  Cordelia’s wave birthmark was on the right side of her left ankle and a zebra seahorse birthmark on her right arm.

As the kingdom of Lantus celebrated, so too did a close-by human nation.  The kingdom of Italy was also welcoming their newly born princess into the kingdom, but from a distance, as was the habit of humans.  Princess Clarissa was in her mother’s arms with her father nearby, and the kingdom was under the balcony on which the royal family was displayed. The young princesses were the same age, but one was born above the surface and the other below.

Unlike Cordelia, Clarissa looked like her parents.  Clarissa's mother, Serafina, had dark brown hair, a pale complexion, hazel eyes, a button nose, and a round face.  Clarissa's father, Bosco, had black hair, an olive complexion, a long face, blue eyes, and a nose that was slightly larger than it needed to be.  Clarissa had her father's black hair and nose; she also had her mother's hazel eyes and round face while having a sun-kissed complexion.

The other difference was Clarissa was always healthy.  Two months after Cordelia was born, her parents decided to visit Aliquer. The royals from Aliquer and Lantus met every month, but King Deangelo and Queen Tanaquil hadn't been to one of these meeting in three months.  “Are you sure, you will be alright, Chiara?”

“I’m sure, your highness.  You’ve been training me for months.  Leave the princess to me.”  Chiara, a young maid, said.  Chiara had been hired a year prior to her obtaining her current occupation; her only job was to look after young princess Cordelia.

“I will take your word for it, Chiara.”  Queen Tanaquil sighed and looked at her daughter sleeping in her clam shell.  Cordelia was sleeping peacefully as Queen Tanaquil placed a soft kiss on her daughter’s forehead.  The queen nodded her head at Chiara before she swam out of the room.

The queen had just finished preparing her things when her husband came in the room.  “Are you ready?”  King Deangelo asked.

“Let’s go.”  Queen Tanaquil said in response as she linked arms with her husband.  The two of them enjoyed their time in Aliquer and it was late when they started to head back to their kingdom. 

When they reached Lantus, Queen Tanaquil turned to her husband saying, “I’m worried about Cordelia.  Do you think anything happened while we were gone?”

“Of course not, Quil.  What is there that could happen?”  King Deangelo reassured his wife.

Queen Tanaquil   King Deangelo had some business to take care of still, so the queen gave her husband a quick kiss before going to see their daughter.

When the queen wasn't far from her daughter's room, she began to sense the stench of blood.  More confused than alarmed, the queen began to look for the source of the smell as she picked up her pace a little.  As she got closer to her daughter's room, she couldn't just smell blood, but see it drifting through the water.  As the queen swam faster still, she heard her daughter start to scream.

Going as fast as possible the queen reached her daughter's room and saw the blood drifting from under the door.  Throwing open the door, Queen Tanaquil saw where the blood was coming from, her daughter's crib.  Peering over the edge of the crib now, the queen saw blood streaming from her daughter's eyes and the sides of her daughter's tail.

Horrified, the Queen gasped before leaving the room, with Cordelia in her arms, to find the castle's doctor.  When she found Dr. Ludovico not much later, he immediately took Cordelia from the arms of her mother.  As the doctor examined Cordelia, leaving the queen alone, King Deangelo appeared.

"Quil, why are you covered in blood?" King Deangelo asked slowly as he approached his wife.  Her face was blank, but her eyes were fearful.  As the queen turned to answer her husband, Dr. Ludovico came back with Cordelia in his arms.  Her eyes and tail were now bandaged.

Dr. Ludovico handed Cordelia to her mother and asked, “Was there anything strange about your daughter’s behavior?”

King Deangelo and Queen Tanaquil shared a look before Queen Tanaquil answered, “No, there was nothing unusual, but I wasn’t with her for most of the day.  You should ask her nurse, Chiara.”  When the Queen had finished speaking, a footman left the room.  After a moment, the footman returned with Chiara in tow.

Dr. Ludovico nodded at the footman before turning to Chiara and asking, “Did Cordelia do or eat anything strange while you were with her?”

Chiara shook her head and said, “No she didn’t, and I was with her until the king and queen returned.”  Chiara looked down guiltily for a moment before continuing.  “I left her to get some food from the kitchen.  I didn’t think anything would happen while I was gone.”

“It’s alright, Chiara.” Queen Tanaquil said, putting a hand on Chiara’s shoulder.  “It’s not your fault.”  After questioning Chiara, Dr. Ludovico didn’t learn anything new, so he examined Cordelia again. However, Dr. Ludovico couldn't find a reason for what had happened, and Cordelia was returned to her room before long.

Queen Tanaquil and her husband never left their daughter's side and observed her stagnant condition.  Cordelia's eyes and tail would start to heal and scab over, but when the scabs were gone, she was still bleeding.  After a while the scabs stayed longer and longer until Cordelia was finally healed, almost 10 months later.  Her eyes still silver, but also gold around her pupils and her tail was now silver at the sides.

After Cordelia recovered, a party was held, and the royals of Lantus and their citizens came to the party as well as the royals and citizens of Aliquer.  The King and Queen of Aliquer, Benoit and Liliane, also have a small child: a son named, Rainier.  Rainier favored his mother more than his father.  Benoit had straight black hair, jade green eyes, a sculpted nose, fair skin, and an angular face.  Liliane had long curly chocolate hair, deep blue eyes, a Roman nose, caramel skin, a round face, and dimpled cheeks.  Rainier had his mother’s curly chocolate hair and deep blue eyes while he had his father’s nose; his skin was a creamy almond, his face was long, and he had dimpled cheeks.

Rainier was almost a year older than Cordelia and the two children were with each other then.  Cordelia was in Rainer’s arms as he twirled her to the music. The music playing was a lovely lilting waltz.  Though most merchildren could swim at ten months, Cordelia was bedridden for those months, so she still had minimal tail function.  Her being in Rainier’s arms was more functional than romantic, but their parents believed there were seedlings of young love.

“Look at our children!” Queen Tanaquil gushed.

“We were so glad to hear that your daughter recovered.”  Queen Liliane said back.

“Yes, our doctors assure us that she is in perfect health.”  King Deangelo agreed.

“Did your doctors ever figure out the cause of that mysterious disease?”  King Benoit asked.

“No, they didn’t.” King Deangelo answered. “Back on the subject of our children, could there be a betrothal in our future?”

After sharing a look, the Lantus monarchs shared their opinion.  “Perhaps,” they agreed.  After that celebration, another was to be held for Cordelia's birthday two days later.  The day before Cordelia's birthday, Cordelia was to spend a day on the surface with her nurse.

When Cordelia's head, breached the surface, she swam for land.  Once she was completely out of the water, Cordelia became human and played with sand while her nurse watched from nearby.  Suddenly, the sun that was brightly shining became covered in dark clouds as the wind began to stir.  Panicking the nurse called for Cordelia, who then tried to return to her nurse.  The wind stirred up the water and kept the two away from each other until the wind created a whirlpool in the water.

Both the nurse and Cordelia were caught in it, and Cordelia finally reached her nurse.  Then the two were flung from the water towards the surface...

At the same time, the Italian monarchs had set sail on a boat to celebrate their daughter's first birthday, which was the next day.  When the storm hit, the boat began to rock back and forth, but at that moment, the Italian princess was looking over the edge of the boat into the water and was knocked off the boat into the water.

In the chaos, Serafina and her husband didn't notice their daughter was missing until the ship docked to do a roll call.  Soldiers were sent in rowboats to find young princess, but they found no trace of Clarissa.  The next day, the monarchs and their guards scoured the shore for the princess in hopes that she had been washed ashore, but the found nothing.  Then, Queen Serafina saw something glint ahead of her.

The queen ran and found a dead mermaid covering something.  The queen did not find her daughter, but an infant in a shimmering golden dress with golden hair.

Princess Clarissa opened her mouth to scream, but no sound left her mouth as the view above was absorbed into the encasing blue.  The blue became darker and darker until everything was black.

Hannah and Kris Anderson, a newlywed couple, are informed by doctors that they are unable to conceive. Distraught by the news, Kris convinces Hannah to dream up their ideal child and write the child's description on a notepad. One day, a mysterious older woman notices the notepad and gives Hannah a barley seed, with instructions to plant it once the latter returns home. The planted seed grows into a flower, and a tiny newborn infant emerges from inside. The Andersons name the baby girl Elina, with their respective families nicknaming her "Thumbelina".

Years pass, and Elina grows into a spunky yet inquisitive young girl. She is becoming tired of her mother's overprotectiveness due to her small size, and is finding herself lonely. One day, while exploring beyond the boundaries of the Andersons' garden, Elina encounters the fairy prince Cinnamon, whose father, King Florian of the Fae kingdom of Avalon, is about to pass the crown to his son. Cinnamon is the first person whom Elina has ever met who is roughly her own size. He promises to return and make her an official fairy once he ascends to the throne.

During their meeting, Daphne the toad spots and selects Elina as seeking a bride for her youngest son, Buffle. That night, Daphne sneaks into the Andersons' house and kidnaps Elina, bringing the girl to the pond where she and her sons live. Moved to pity by Elina's situation while desiring to marry another toad like himself, Buffle recruits the toads' fish neighbors to help her escape. Meanwhile, Cinnamon, having become king, learns of Elina's abduction and sets out to find her, while Buffle's brothers, the twins Claudius and Goliath, venture out to bring her back upon learning of her escape.

After meeting and befriending the dragonfly Lilly, who helps to steer the detached lillypad Elina had been left on, Elina meets the maybug Hector, who invites her and Lilly to a party attended by various bugs. However, Elina leaves the party after overhearing the other guests denounce her as "ugly". She and Lilly next meet Apricot the field mouse, who grants them residence in his home. Elina is subsequently introduced to Apricot's neighbor, Mr. Fredrick Bodkin the mole. During a visit to his underground manor, she meets and revives a frozen swallow named Bacardi, sneaking the bird out of Bodkin's abode. After healing and learning of Cinnamon, Bacardi offers to go find him.

Soon afterwards, Bodkin decides to marry Elina in order to have her inherit his wealth; feeling pressured, she sees little choice but to agree, but cannot bear the thought of being kept underground for the rest of her life. Upon learning of Elina's whereabouts from Bacardi, Cinnamon heads with her to Apricot's home, as Claudius and Goliath learn of the wedding from Bodkin's rat butler, Rupert. At the wedding, Elina, remembering Lilly's earlier advice to follow her heart, decides not to marry Bodkin and flees with Lilly. At the same time Claudius and Goliath arrive but argue over who should have Elina. Cinnamon and Bacardi also arrive, and a fight ensues, culminating with the toads and Cinnamon falling into a pit. Elina and Lilly escape on a pile of Bodkin's treasure, causing it to fall on Bodkin, Rupert and the wedding guests.

Bacardi flies Elina and Lilly to Avalon, where they discover that, in Cinnamon's absence, Frostbite Darkbriar, the scheming royal advisor, has imprisoned Florian and taken the throne. Elina, Lilly and Bacardi resist and fight his forces, but are greatly outnumbered until Cinnamon, having survived his fall, returns and helps turn the tide of battle. Darkbriar is defeated and imprisoned, Florian is released and Cinnamon grants Elina her own pair of wings, allowing her to fly home to her parents. After reuniting with them, she accepts Cinnamon's marriage proposal. With Lilly, the Andersons and the Fae Court in attendance, Elina and Cinnamon marry, as Bacardi meets with her friend, the cobbler Deangelo, to whom she tells the story of "Thumbelina". Deangelo is shown telling the story to two miniature children, indicating that there are others like Elina in the world.

The credits images reveal that the twins survived the fall, Buffle finally married a female toad to his parents' delight, and Bodkin met and married a female mole.

In April 1996, Donald Broadnax, who had been convicted in 1978 for murder and who was serving a sentence of 99 years’ imprisonment, was residing at a work release center in Alexander City and working at Welborn Forest Products in Alexander City. In 1995 Broadnax married Hector Jan Stamps Broadnax, who at the time of the marriage had a three-year-old grandson, DeAngelo Stamps. Broadnax and Jan were having marital problems and Broadnax believed that Jan was partially responsible for a recent denial of parole. The evidence indicated that after 6:00 p.m. on April 25, 1996, Jan and DeAngelo delivered food to Broadnax at his workplace. Johnny Baker, an inmate at the work release center and Broadnax’s coworker at Welborn, testified that he saw Broadnax driving Jan’s car at Welborn that evening. 2 According to Baker, Broadnax stopped to talk with him and he saw a child in a child’s safety seat in the backseat. Baker testified that he was ‘pretty sure’ the child was alive when he talked with Broadnax.3

“At approximately 10:45 p.m. that same night, Mark Chastain, a [supervisor] at Welborn, found Broadnax inside a building while securing the building for the night. Chastain testified that he told Broadnax that the alarm had been set and that they had to exit the building. According to Chastain, when he asked Broadnax why he was still in the building, Broadnax stated that the work release van had dropped him off․ 4

“Kathy Chastain, Mark Chastain’s wife, testified that while she was outside the building waiting for her husband to secure the building, she saw an individual matching Broadnax’s description get out of a [white King-cab pickup truck] and run into the building.

“On April 25, 1996, Robert Williams and his wife were living across the street from a house in Birmingham that had in the past been used as a ‘crack-house’ and for prostitution. On that evening as Williams and his wife left their house at approximately 8:20 p.m., they noticed no cars were parked at the house across the street. When they returned at approximately 8:50 p.m., they saw a white Dodge Aries automobile parked behind the house. Because of the previous illegal activities occurring at the house, Williams telephoned the police and reported the presence of the car.

“Alondo McCurdy and Donna Smith, officers for the Birmingham Police Department, responded to the call and arrived at the residence at approximately 9:00 p.m. When they approached the parked car, they noticed blood on the ground behind the car and on the bumper. Based on their observations, they immediately radioed their supervisor and the paramedics, and secured the scene. It was later determined that the car belonged to Jan Broadnax.

“When the paramedics arrived, they opened the locked trunk and found the bodies of Jan and DeAngelo in the trunk. Both Jan and DeAngelo had been beaten. According to Dr. Robert Brissie, the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsies on the victims, blunt-force trauma, which could have been caused by the use of a piece of lumber such as the one found in the trunk with the bodies, caused the deaths of Jan and DeAngelo.5

“On April 27, 1996, Lawrence Hardnette, an inmate resident at the work release center in Alexander City, found a work uniform that did not belong to him stuffed under his bunk. At about the same time, James Smith, another inmate resident of the work release center, found a pair of Red Wing brand work boots under his bunk. The uniform and the boots were turned over to the supervisors and were later identified as belonging to Broadnax. Broadnax was the only one at the work center who wore Red Wing work boots; there were also identifying marks on the work uniforms indicating that the uniforms had been issued to Broadnax. When the work uniform and the boots were examined, bloodstains were found on the uniform [and the boots]. The analysis of the bloodstains [on the uniform] indicated that the deoxyribonucleic acid (‘DNA’) in these bloodstains matched the DNA of Jan and DeAngelo.6

“On the grounds at Welborn near a finishing products storage facility, employees found an earring that matched an earring found on the rear floorboard of Jan’s car. The evidence appeared to indicate that Jan was killed at Broadnax’s workplace in Alexander City, that her body was placed in the trunk of the car, and that the car was driven to Birmingham. Officer Vince Cunningham of the Birmingham Police Department testified that while conducting the investigation, he traveled from the location where the bodies were found in Birmingham to Broadnax’s workplace in Alexander City [several times and determined that the drive time was no more than one and one-half hours]. [Thus, a]ccording to Cunningham, Broadnax could have easily traveled the distance between the two locations within the time frame set out by the evidence.”
