The Prince and the Peasant - Chapter 4 - Both Ways
Summary:
Adam Alexandre Alsace du Maurier lives in a shining castle in France’s countryside. When an old beggar woman comes to Adam’s castle seeking shelter from a winter storm, he turns her away, cold and indifferent to her suffering. After she transforms into a beautiful Enchantress, she strips away Adam’s title and wealth, cursing him to live as a peasant with the hope that he will learn the value of community and kindness.
In a daze, Adam wanders through the woods, the memory of his encounter with the magical woman cloudy and fragmented. When Adam stumbles into a nearby tavern, Gaston Legume, a respected member of the community, offers to take Adam into his home, both to uphold his stellar reputation and to impress the woman he wants to marry.
Life in the village proves to be more difficult than Adam had expected and having a supposed nobleman as a roommate stretches Gaston’s patience to its limits. Through many conflicts and arguments, Gaston and Adam's relationship transforms, first into friendship, and then into something more.
But one night, a shimmering rose blossoms to life in Adam’s mind, and as winter turns to spring, its petals begin to fall, leading Adam to wonder: what will happen once it wilts?

“I bet that was one of the best meals you’ve ever eaten in your life,” Gaston said as lifted the bucket of now-dirty water.
God, that man’s arrogance was never-ending. Despite the fact that the two were only just starting to tolerate each other, Adam couldn’t resist the urge to mess with him.
“It wasn’t half-bad,” Adam said. “Filets were a bit dry, though.”
Gaston dropped the bucket, causing some of the water to splash onto the floorboards. Adam’s muscles tensed. He wondered if Gaston would try to fight him over something so silly.
“They weren’t dry!”
The next few words tumbled out of Adam’s mouth before he had a chance to really consider whether or not he wanted to say them.
“Maybe a little over-seasoned too.”
As Gaston took two threatening footsteps toward him, Adam got to his feet, forcing himself to appear unfazed, though his hands were starting to shake. He had to wonder why he was harassing Gaston like this. After all, the man had cooked them a perfectly nice meal. But, Jesus Christ, his narcissism. He needed to lighten up a little.
“What did you say?” Gaston asked, getting in Adam’s face. Adam’s mouth twitched and he didn’t know how much longer he could possibly hold back laughter. “I can’t believe you’re so spoiled as to insult-”
Even though Adam kept his mouth clamped shut, he couldn’t hold back expressing his amusement any longer, which meant that his whole body jerked involuntarily as he emitted a loud snort. Gaston’s fury appeared to away, seeming to transform into complete confusion instead, which only made Adam want to laugh some more, but this time, he didn’t hold back in the slightest, and shouted a boisterous ‘HAH!’ right in Gaston’s face before dissolving into a fit of laughter and ultimately covering his mouth with his hand. Gaston stayed silent.
“Sorry,” Adam said as he tried to contain his laughter and rein in his smile to one that was a relatively normal size. “I was teasing you.”
Gaston lifted one of his eyebrows. “Teasing me?”
“I’m not even sure why,” Adam said. “I’m sorry.”
“You didn’t hate the rabbit?”
“I never even said I hated it!” Adam smiled and shook his head. Somehow, the man had heard the words ‘half-bad’ and had decided that they meant ‘terrible.’ For someone with an enormous ego, Gaston’s self-worth seemed to be ludicrously fragile. “I loved it.”
“You loved it,” Gaston repeated.
Oh, the poor man was still confused somehow. Hadn’t anyone ever teased him before?
“Yes!” Adam reached up and tentatively patted Gaston on the arm in a gesture of mocking reassurance. “Don’t look so shocked. I was only trying to be funny.”
Gaston looked at Adam’s hand, which had come to settle on his bicep, and then back at Adam’s face. He shrugged it off and walked back to the bucket.
“I knew you were teasing me,” Gaston said, picking up the bucket again. “I mean, how could you not be? Everything I cook is delicious.”

one new message
jjk megumi fushiguro x gn!reader
megumi missed a call.
- word count: 0.9k
- contents: poorly written angst with slightly detailed descriptions of death and injury, established relationship with (most likely) ooc aged!up megumi, not beta read
- notes: i haven't written on a tumblr blog in years, so please ignore the cringe. i thought maybe writing bad fanfiction would help prepare me for going back into a writing course in the spring semester. also, if you want to leave criticism, you can always dm me, but remember to be respectful and kind. i will cry. here's to the first post on this blog!
“you have one new message. to listen to your messages, press- first unheard message.”
shaking fingers slide over the keypad, pressing down on a single digit before lifting off. megumi releases the breath he had been holding ever since he had entered the room. the smell of antiseptic and medical equipment always made his stomach churn. even when he visited his sister, he had a bad habit of doing it because why should a supposedly sterile room smell so bitter-
your voice cuts through his thoughts, effectively giving him no more room to spiral further.
“hi, ‘gumi. i know you’re probably still out with yuji and nobara, but i just wanted to, uhm, talk to you for a little bit. well, you in the future, hm?” you giggle. it’s breathless. megumi can imagine you standing in front of him, rolling your eyes at your own words. the thought makes him stumble. “ah, i called because i wanted to hear your voice, but i figured i might as well leave a voicemail here while i’m at it. if you see any more missed calls after this one, it’s because i so do enjoy hearing you grumpily demand me to ‘leave a message at the tone.’ hah.” he tries to swallow to wet his dry mouth, but the lump that’s been slowly forming in his throat ever since he got the call from shoko prevents him from doing so. megumi drags his fingertips from his teeth down to his neck, trying to will away the lump.
it doesn’t leave and the world spins a little more as he struggles to unblock his airway.
“i, uh, finished the mission later than expected, so i’m sorry for not being in your dorm right now. i’m just, er, resting right now. found a nice spot on the ground until i can catch my breath… i, uhm, wonder if you’re listening to this message, waiting up for me. i hope- ugh, i hope you aren’t. hate it when you worry so much. you’re going to get premature wrinkles from how much you frown, you know?” you try to laugh, but megumi can hear the faint gurgle of liquid pouring from your lips. he can hear the raspy wheeze beginning to form behind each sentence.
“i’m going to run out of time on this thing if i don’t hurry, but you know how much i talk, and… i miss you. i know i saw you this morning, and i know i’ll see you again, but you just looked so sad about me leaving. ha-hate seeing you pout. i miss you so much. did you at least smile when you saw that i called?” you cough and choke and try to pull it off, even though the sound is ragged and wet and clear. megumi feels ten times more sick knowing that you’re fighting to talk right now for his sake. your last memory with him was of him asking you to let yuta cover your mission. megumi should have been more insistent and selfless. he should have followed you.
“you make me so unbelievably happy. i’m happy right now because i got to hear your voice and think of you, and…” you sound so tired. megumi can practically see your eyes closing shut. the sleepy smile that you wear every time you wake up from a nap next to him.
bile begins to crawl up from his stomach. his phone clatters to the ground with a crack as he uses both of his hands to grip the edge of the autopsy table because his knees grew weak, nearly sending him crashing onto the tiles. the cold steel of the table bites hard at his aching, bloody fingers that have had the nails anxiously chewed down to nubs.
logically, he knows your body would be as cold as the metal that you lie upon if he even dared to lay a finger on you. illogically, though... if yuji could come back from the dead, then why couldn't you? megumi wants to rip the white linen off of your body and shout at you to wake up, to tell you that the joke isn’t funny anymore.
if he gained the courage to look at you for the final time, megumi would be able to see that you were all cracked ribs and shattered lungs. the warmth of your skin was no more. there was only dried blood and a sterile sheet to cover your bare body.
you were the embodiment of his broken heart.
a choked sound, reminiscent of your own, tries to escape his lips as he finally crumbles to the floor. he dry heaves as the bitter scent of disinfectant rips into him.
if megumi fushiguro was a stronger man, he wouldn't have his forehead pressed against the tiled floor of the morgue. he wouldn't be pleading and begging for you to come back, to wake up. he wouldn't be accidentally binding a curse to you as his head reels from nausea.
if he was a stronger man, he would let you rest like you rightfully deserve after years of exorcising curses and cleaning up messes that weren't yours to clean.
if he was a stronger man.
“megumi, baby, i love you… so much more than you know.”
“you have no new messages. please check erased messages.”

Ellie x Fem Reader, where they go to the gun range in Jackson, and the reader is a badass, later they stargaze together at night overlooking Jackson, and they are together.
━ 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒
𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜(𝙨) - Ellie Williams x G/N!Reader 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 - Cursing? A lot of fluff, they use a gun like once
𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 ? - Yeah/Nope
𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙧'𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙚 - I kind of hate this but it's also kind of cute
"Ellie I'm gonna bust this door down, are you even awake?" The door then flung open just as you went to knock again. "Yeah, sorry." "Dude, I've been knocking for like twenty minutes. You good?" She nodded out of breath, giving you a slight smile.
"Sorry, I took a nap-" "You sleep like a dead animal, Christ." You crossed your arms as she backed up allowing you to step inside. Ellie looked down at the floor with a flustered face, scratching the back of her neck.
"I just have to change my pants." "Oo, thanks for inviting me in then." You winked at her, missing the slight awe on her face as you walked towards her desk. Looking at all her posters and desk ornaments.
"Nice stuff." "Thanks-" "You like Savage Starlight?" You turned around to look at her as she was putting her pants on. A light coat of pink dusting her cheeks when you met her eyes, not even caring about her getting dressed.
"Yeah.." "You're so much fucking cooler than I thought. Why don't we hang out more? I swear I rarely ever see you around." Ellie looked at you surprised, buttoning her jeans up while watching you look at some of her drawings layed out on the desk.
"You're really good at this." You picked up one of the pieces of paper before your eyes landed on an entirely separate paper. "Holy fuck, is that me?" "What?" Ellie could've sprinted at you when you said that, panic flooding through her body when you picked up a piece of paper.
Stumbling over herself as you examined the sheet.
A near perfect captured image of you drawn in pencil. Smiling, looking off somewhere else.
"This is so good. When did you do this?" "I don't know.. a while ago. Thanks..." She looked down at her hands as you examined the art. "Can I keep this? I want to show it to my friends." She looked at you surprised before nodding, her eyes on your fingers as you delicately folded the paper.
"Alright, ready to go? Our time at the range is gonna be shorter because someone sleeps like a corpse." You laughed walking towards the front door, Ellie hurriedly slipping her converse on.
"Sorry." "Not a problem, but you owe me extra time now." You smiled, opening her door up, stepping outside while she followed. "I'm glad we're partners now, by the way. Dina's always in my ear about how fun you are. You get jealous after a while."
You smiled at her, the girl returning it with a light pink dust across her freckled face. You two walked side by side, the evening spring air cool against your skin.
"So, how good of a shot are you?" You asked as you arrived at the practice area, two patrol partners already practicing. You leaned against the fence meeting her eyes. "I've heard good things." "Dina talks a lot.." Ellie laughed, looking away from you.
"That she does, yet you barely talk at all." The two partners finished up, both of you readying weapons as they backed off and took their papers down.
"Not that I mind, you're nice to look at." "Thanks?" She said quietly making you laugh, putting up the paper target. Then one for Ellie who thanked you for that as well.
"Let's see what you got Williams." You aimed your gun as did she, both of you firing off a few rounds. "Damn, better than me. No wonder they paired us up." "You're not that bad." "Yeah right, look at those shots."
You brushed some of your hair back from your eyes. "You're good at everything, this isn't fair." "Here.. you just have to raise your arms more." Ellie moved to stand behind you, grabbing underneath your arms lightly before pushing them upward just a bit.
"Like that." "Thanks, or was that just an excuse to touch me?" You teased, giving her a small wink making her flush and look away. "I'm kidding, sorry if I come off too strong." "Have you ever talked to Dina?" You snorted, putting the gun down.
"I say, we turn this into a competition."
And a competition it was.
It wasn't long when the sun began to settle below the horizon. Both of you deciding that you didn't stop talking just yet. Walking side by side down the path as the sky turned a inky dark hue.
"Told you, you were better than me." You laughed, bumping her with your hip while she laughed. "Not by much." "Don't be humble, it was cute when you got excited."
You turned onto the road your little house was on, slight disappointment spreading through your stomach. Your head then lolled back, looking at the stars above you both.
"I cannot believe we haven't hung out before this." You said, humming when the wind blew past cooling off your warm skin. "Me either." "I was starting to think you were avoiding me." "What?" Ellie looked at you slightly panicked, listening to you chuckle.
"No, just that you kind of never met my eyes, left when I showed up. It's like I couldn't quite catch you." She laughed awkwardly and looked down at her hands, your eyes finding themselves on her face.
"I'm glad we're partners now." "Yeah, me too." "Hey, are you and Cat still together?" Ellie shook her head. "No, we broke up a while ago. Better friends." You nodded and hummed.
"Oh, look it's... one of the Dippers." You pointed at the spoon-like constellation. Ellie looking up at the same time, both of you bumping into each other. "I wanted to be an astronaut when I was younger." "Really? Do you still want to be?" "Maybe." She teased making you smile.
"Fine, but I wanna be the copilot of the rocket. I've always wanted to go to Mars." "No way." You met her eyes as you stopped in front of your house, just a few houses away from Joel's. "Mm, yeah. Hey, are you busy tomorrow?"
You could physically see her freeze in the corner of your vision, her eyes going slightly wide.
"Yeah, besides our patrol.." "Cool, wanna hang out?" "Like a date?" She regretted her words as soon as you met her eyes, pinching at her fingers to calm her down. "Yeah, I didn't want to freak you out but, yeah, we'll call it a date."
"Okay...yeah." "Okay. Well, I'll see you in the morning, please, don't make me climb through a window to wake you up." You joked, walking towards your stairs. "I'll leave the door unlocked." "Good, see you El." "Yeah, see you."
When you looked back her eyes had found someplace on the the road. A dopey little smile on her face as she walked off.

Toxic Taste
Pairing: Dream / Clay x gn!reader
Summary: [Dream SMP!AU] It's a perfect day for a picnic with your friends. Well, it seems like one until you suddenly fall very ill.
Warnings: very minor cursing
Word Count: 4.5k
A/N: this was requested by @amintyworld! everyone just loves protective dream, don’t they? i had fun exploring this concept, and i hope you enjoy!
You hummed, fixing your hair in the mirror before giving yourself one last once over, nodding to yourself. Looks good. Just then, you heard the door swing open behind you, creaking with a quiet groan. You didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.
“Hey, are you ready to go?”
Whirling around, your hand quickly grabbed the woven basket on the table beside you as you flashed Clay a bright grin, bounding over to his side with a skip in your step. “I am, now.”
Without having to say another word, he lifted his arm toward you, and you looped yours through his, your fingers tightening around the basket handle. The two of you stepped outside together, locking the door behind you before making your way down the oak path. Above you, only a few clouds dotted the cerulean blue sky, drifting along the gentle spring breeze.
It really was a perfect day for a picnic.
Turning, you cast a curious glance over at Clay. “Are you excited to see what everyone brought?”
He bobbed his head, his lips quirking up into a wicked grin. “Yeah—I can’t wait to make fun of whatever George made.”
You frowned, shooting him an unimpressed look. “George is a good chef in his own right,” you chided.
His smile widened, reaching over to gently tap your nose. “Yeah, but you’re the best.” He patted your basket cover, his viridian gaze swirling with mirth. “They’re gonna love your cookies.”
You rolled your eyes at him, snorting, but he didn’t miss the way your lips twitched. “You just say that because you’re my boyfriend.”
He hummed. “Just because I’m biased doesn’t mean it’s not true.”
You raised your brows at him. “Oh? So you admit that you’re biased?”
Leaning over, he brushed his lips against yours in a peck, pulling back with a dazzling grin. “Of course,” he murmured in that soft tone that made your cheeks grow hot, “without a doubt.”
You swallowed, trying to calm your frantically beating heart. “You’re so cheesy,” you said, adopting a passive tone, “no more dilly-dallying, now. We have a picnic to get to.”
He sent you a crooked smile. “Okay, okay.” His eyes flashed. “I’ll race you.”
“Huh, wh—?”
Before you could even process what was happening, he had suddenly bolted, his arm leaving yours. Almost immediately, your body yearned for the warmth of his pressed against yours, and you found yourself stumbling after him.
“Wait, Clay!” you called after him, your basket bouncing beside you as you watched him crest over the grassy hill. “That’s not fair! Get back here!”
He only turned to shoot you a goofy grin, laughter bubbling on his lips as he disappeared from view, his hoodie fading to nothing more than a tiny speck of green among the swaying blades of grass. You couldn’t stop the laughter from spilling from your lips, bursting from your chest like fireworks.
“You are so dead when I catch up to you!”
He called back over the horizon. “If you ever!”
Your grin only grew wider.
Oh, he was so dead.
“Your bread sucks.”
You gasped, lightly smacking Clay’s chest. “Clay!” Whipping around, you sent George an earnest grin. “George, I think your bread is wonderful.”
Beside you, Tommy made a face, setting his slice down on his plate with a disgusted glance. “Nah, I agree with Big D. This bread is pretty shit.”
Now, it was Wilbur’s turn to gasp. “Tommy!”
Tommy’s brows knit together as he scowled. “What? I’m just telling the truth.”
George let out a long groan, his glasses threatening to slide off the crown of his head as he hung his face in his hands. “I am never baking, again.”
In an instant, Niki was on her feet, flailing her arms. “No, no, no! Don’t say that—baking can be a lot of fun!” She paused for a moment, then her eyes lit up. “I can teach you a new sourdough recipe, if you’d like!”
George lifted his head, blinking at her with wide, hopeful eyes. “You would?”
She nodded, a bright smile tugging at her lips. “Of course!”
Sapnap snorted, taking another bite of steak. “I can’t believe you have to learn from someone else how to make good bread.”
George groaned again, glowering at his supposed best friend. “Why is everyone ganging up on me, today?”
Clay was quick to butt in. “Haven’t you heard? It’s National Be Mean to George Day.”
Tubbo blinked, confusion clouding his features. “That’s not a real holi—” He paused, then gasped. “Oh, wait.” He grinned. “Never mind.”
George’s glare only intensified, and he sighed. “Niki, forget it.”
While Niki practically shriveled into a puddle, Wilbur spoke up, offering him a reassuring smile. “Well, I think your bread is delicious, George. Genuinely.”
George flashed him a thankful grin, adjusting the glasses on his head. “Thank you, Wilbur.”
Letting out another laugh, you leaned back against Clay’s side, his arm firmly wrapped around your waist as you snuggled against him. Your friends were always up to weird antics, and while you didn’t necessarily agree with their actions, you were willing to indulge in them, if only to see what would happen next. In front of you, you gingerly picked up the half-eaten fish skewer from your plate, lifting it to your lips as you took another bite. It was sweet, and vaguely tasted like saltwater, but you liked it. It was unique, in its own weird way.
You watched as Clay reached across the patterned blanket for the plate of cookies you had brought, gingerly picking one up. Glancing up at him, you opened your mouth. “Do you actually think George’s bread is bad?” you asked softly. “Or are you just trying to rile him up?”
He paused, the cookie halfway to his mouth, then shrugged, biting in. “It’s a bit of both. It isn’t half-bad, I guess.” He shot you a cheeky wink. “Yours is still better, though.”
You groaned, feeling your face grow warm. “Stop that.”
He tilted his head at you, a cocky grin spreading across his face as he chewed. “Stop what?” he said, leaning in close to you. “Being honest?”
You did your best to send him a glare, but you knew it was half-hearted at best. “Yes.”
His grin widened, his eyes glimmering with affectionate arrogance. “Never.”
As his eyes locked onto yours, you felt your glare melt away. With a small hum, he dipped his head to yours, pressing his mouth to yours with a smile. His tongue lapped at your lips, and you grinned back. He tasted like chocolate chips and sunshine. You pulled back with a quiet gasp, your cheeks burned with heat as his emerald eyes bore into yours, crinkling at the corners.
“I love you, sweetheart,” he whispered for you and you alone.
Your heart swelled. “I love you, too.”
He stared at you for a moment longer, then pressed his forehead against yours, mischief dancing in his eyes. “Also,” he added, “you taste like fish.”
You sent him a horrified look before smacking his arm again, your heart flipping as he wheezed at your reaction. “S-Shut up!”
He only wheezed harder in response, and despite your embarrassment, you felt a smile tugging on your lips. That was the thing about Clay that got you every time—as much as he would tease you and make your heart go wild in your chest, you knew he meant every single thing he told you. He was just so sincere like that, and it made you want to sink straight into him.
God, you were so, so in love.
Just then, a howl pulled you away from your attack on Clay. You turned to see Quackity, his mouth agape as he pointed at Niki, a bewildered look plastered to her face. “Niki!” he screamed. “You brought cake?”
She blinked, stunned for only a moment before she smiled, nodding. “Yeah! It’s homemade and has vanilla frosting.”
Quackity immediately sank down to one knee, one hand outstretched toward her as he said dramatically, “Marry me.”
Niki’s smile didn’t falter for even a second. “No thanks.”
Quackity’s arm dropped, and he let out a whine. “Damn, you didn’t have to say it so quickly.” Crossing his arms over his chest, he sat down with a pout. “You could have at least pretended to think about it.”
You all burst into laughter, giggling as Niki simply set her cake down on the blanket next to George’s bread. Wilbur had brought three watermelons—how he carted them over by himself, you had no idea—while Tommy brought pork chops. Tubbo had also caught fish for the occasion while Sapnap packed steak. Meanwhile, Quackity had carried a sack of apples over to the picnic, but you had a feeling he may or may not have stolen them, since he didn’t exactly own an apple orchard of his own.
You opened your mouth to ask for a slice of Niki’s cake when you suddenly froze, a bolt of what felt like lightning tingling up your spine. Your head spun, and you could have sworn your vision darkened at the edges. An uneasy pit grew in your stomach, and you frowned. Why do I feel so... strange?
Pushing yourself forward slightly, you tried to sit up straight, only to feel your arms wobble before you crashed back into Clay’s side once more. In a flash, his arms were around you, holding you steady as his green eyes peered down at yours.
“Hey,” he said, his tone growing serious, “are you okay?” He wrinkled his brow. “You look a little off.”
You blinked, feeling your stomach churn with uneasiness. “I’m, um—I feel kind of sick.”
Without an ounce of hesitation, Clay was on his feet, stretching his arm out to you. “Here, let me help you up.”
You slipped your hand into his, doing your best to hang on tight as he tugged you upward. You expected to simply stand on your own two feet just as you would in any other situation, but the moment you were up, you suddenly felt your knees buckle beneath you, your legs going numb. You gasped as your feet went flying out under you, your fingers digging onto Clay’s palm.
“Clay—!”
With a whirl, his arms held you to his chest, your sides shaking. A rush of anxiety rolled through you, and you looked down, desperately trying to move your foot, only to find that you couldn’t. It remained as still as a rock, and you wanted to cry.
“[Y/N],” Clay breathed, his hand on your face as he supported your weight with his other arm, “what’s wrong?” His eyes desperately searched yours for any clue as to what was happening, but all you could manage was a broken, choked whisper.
“Clay, I—” You swallowed, your hands trembling around his arm while something stung at the back of your eyes. “I can’t move my legs.”
He froze, his voice dropping to a deadly low whisper. “You what?”
You shook your head, hanging onto him for dear life. The spinning had gotten worse now, and you felt sicker and sicker by the second. “I-I don’t know, I don’t feel good and something’s wrong and—Clay,” you breathed, tears welling up in your eyes, “I’m scared.” Your heart pounded in your chest, but for all the wrong reasons. “Am I going to die?”
His gaze hardened, filling with determination as his hold around you tightened. “No,” he said without even an inkling of doubt, “you’re not.”
Before you could react, he suddenly swung one arm beneath your numb legs, easily hoisting you up so that you were carefully pressed against his chest. You gasped as your friends’ eyes landed on you, their faces full of worry as your head lolled against Clay’s shoulder.
“Everyone,” he said, his voice booming across the field, “there’s something wrong with the food.” His eyes narrowed. “Don’t eat it.”
He turned his head, dipping his head toward George as he said, “George, I need you to get me as many regeneration potions and golden apples as you can, ASAP.”
George was on his feet as fast as he could, already turning on his heel. “I’m on it,” he shouted as he took off, already booking it down the hill.
Finally, Tubbo spoke up, asking the one question that had been on everyone’s mind. “Dream, what’s going on?”
Clay’s eyes darkened, and you could just barely feel his hands tighten around you while your vision swam.
“[Y/N]’s been poisoned.”
Wilbur gasped, slapping a hand over his mouth. “Oh my god.”
Sapnap whipped his head around, gazing at the once serene picnic blanket with sheer terror. “What the fu—”
Suddenly, your hand shot up to grip Clay’s collar, his eyes immediately darting to yours. You gasped, your head absolutely throbbing as your heart rammed against your rib cage all too quickly. You opened your mouth, your spit tasting like salt and ash.
“Clay, I—”
The words died in your mouth as the world went dark, enveloping you in cold darkness.
You awoke with a start, bolting upright as you gasped, the cool air flooding your aching lungs. Immediately, you felt your stomach churn in retaliation, and your skull practically screamed at you to lie back down again. Slamming a hand over your eye, you felt the spinning of your head slowly fade away. Disoriented and dizzy, the blurriness of your vision began to lift as you blinked, taking in the sight of the room around you.
You didn’t recognize the windowsill at your side or the mattress you were lying on. The closed door stared back at you as your gaze swept over it, almost as if it knew you were confused. Not even the sheets looked familiar.
Where... am I?
You swallowed, something sharp and uneasy prickling up your spine.
What happened?
Your eyelids fluttered shut, and you tried to recall the events that had led you up to this moment.
You remembered... cookies. And a picnic. Clay’s hand in yours. There was food, and laughter. Then suddenly, you were queasy. Sick. Something wasn’t right. Then... nothing.
You blanched. Did I pass out?
Just then, you heard the door click, the hinges swinging open with a creak. Your eyes flew open and your breath hitched in your throat, and you turned, your fingers curling tighter into the sheets. Your eyes went wide as Clay walked in, one hand on the handle and the other holding an apple. The moment his eyes met yours, he froze.
“Clay?” you whispered, your voice sounding hoarse.
The apple dropped to the ground.
In an instant, he was in front of you with his hands on your face, his thumbs brushing over your cheeks. His emerald eyes bore straight into yours with an intensity that sent your heart reeling. The words flew from his mouth in a flurry, his gaze never leaving yours.
“How are you feeling? Can you hear me? Is everything feeling alrig—”
“Woah, woah,” you said, waving your hand to cue him to stop, “what happened?”
His fingers trembled against your cheeks, and you could have sworn his eyes flashed with something wet. “[Y/N], oh, I’m—” He swallowed, his neck bobbing as he sent you a grateful smile. “I’m just so glad that you’re here.”
His hands pulled away from your face as he stood upright once more, heading for the open door. “Here, I’ll be back in a second.”
You raised your hand toward him, opening your mouth to say something, but he was already gone, having disappeared down the hall in a flash. Blinking, you sat stunned and even more confused than before, left only to wait and hope for an explanation once he returned.
Hardly even two minutes passed before you heard the rumbling of footsteps racing toward the open door. You squeaked when a series of faces filled the room, their cheeks red and chests heaving as they caught their breath. Clay immediately shuffled back to your side, slipping into the space on the bed next to you before grabbing your hand, squeezing.
“[Y/N]!” Niki cried, her eyes filled with panic. “Are you okay?”
Beside her, Tubbo’s hands shook at his side. “We only just heard from Dream that you were awake.”
You opened your mouth, then closed it, your mind still hazy with everything that had just happened. Struggling to come up with an answer, you found yourself blurting the first words that came to mind. “How long has it been?”
You saw George shoot Sapnap a look, shrugging his shoulders before glancing back at you. “Uh, like, half a day.”
You shot forward, gaping. “Half a day?!”
Tommy flashed you a bright grin, leaning against Tubbo’s shoulder with a teasing look. “Yeah, you should have seen Dream run around! He spoon fed you regeneration potions and probably even read three whole fuckin’ libraries’ worth of books on poison antidotes while you wer—”
A hand suddenly smacked into Tommy’s skull, and he yelped. Behind him, Wilbur scowled. “Tommy!” he scolded. There was a soft giggle, then Wilbur whirled, his eyes narrowing. “And Quackity.” The giggles stopped. “Don’t think I didn’t see you laughing. This is serious.”
There was a slight pause. “Okay, but it is funn—”
“[Y/N],” Clay suddenly said, cutting Tommy off as his hand squeezed yours.
You blinked, trying to ignore how low his voice sounded right about now. “Y-Yeah?”
He cocked his head at you, gesturing to the sheets covering your lower half. “Can you move your legs?”
“Um...” Lifting an arm, you flung the sheets off of you, carefully shifting your leg back and forth. “Y-Yeah. I’m still feeling kind of funny, though.” You wrinkled your nose. “I’m not sure if I can stand, yet.”
He frowned, his eyebrows furrowing as he ran a hand through his hair. “Damn. I had a feeling this would happen, but I still wished it wouldn’t.”
Quackity took a step forward, his hand outstretched toward you. “Here, [Y/N], try—”
A snarl ripped itself out of Clay’s throat, and his shout echoed off the walls. “Don’t touch them!”
A tense silence immediately fell over the room, and Quackity back-pedalled, pulling his hand back as if he had burned it on hot coal. You watched as a pang of guilt shot across Clay’s face before he sighed. “Sorry, I mean—” He shook his head, lowering his head. “Fuck.”
Sapnap sent him a small smile, sincere and reassuring. “Hey, man,” he said softly, “it’s alright. We get it. You’re stressed. I’d react the same way if I was in your position.”
Clay raised his chin a little, his lips quirking. “Thanks, Sap.”
Wilbur suddenly spoke up, his eyes trained on you. “Dream, I think we still have some questions we should ask.”
Clay blinked, then nodded. “Right, thanks, Wilbur.” Clearing his throat, he turned to face you head on.” Do you still remember the picnic?” When you nodded, he continued. “Did anything out of the ordinary happen?”
You paused, then shook your head. “Not that I can remember. I woke up, packed up a basket, walked over to the field with you, ate with everyone, then...” You gestured vaguely. “Well, y’know.”
His gaze hardened. “What did you eat?”
You thought for a moment. “Um, I ate an apple, and I had two slices of George’s bread.” You paused again, furrowing your brows. Then, your eyes lit up. “Oh, and I also ate some of the fish.”
Clay stared at you. “Fish?” he parroted.
You bobbed your head, humming. “Yeah. That’s about as much as I remember.”
There was a brief moment of silence, and you could practically see the gears turning in Clay’s head. “Did anyone else here eat the fish?” he finally said after a while.
Your friends cast curious looks at one another before George raised his hand, shaking his head. “No.” He jutted his head toward you. “[Y/N] was the first and only person to, I believe.”
Clay pursed his lips. “Tubbo.”
Tubbo jumped, looking panicked and shaky as he stammered out, “Y-Yes, Dream?”
Clay narrowed his eyes. “Who exactly brought the fish?”
Tubbo gulped. “Uh, it, um, ah—” He inhaled sharply at the look on Clay’s face, then sighed. “I did, Dream.”
For a moment, it was quiet. Then, Clay sighed, his thumb brushing over the back of your hand. “Oh, it all makes sense now.”
Now, it was Tommy’s turn to speak, his expression clouded with confusion. “How the fuck does that make this make any more sense than it did before?”
Clay suddenly slipped his hand out of yours, your palm meeting nothing as he rose to his full height. You felt the air grow cold.
“Tubbo,” he said slowly, casually—almost too casually. A crooked, charming smile spread across his lips, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “What kind of fish was it?”
Tubbo lowered his gaze to the ground. “Pufferfish,” he said in a tiny whisper.
Tommy stared. “Oh.” Understanding flickered across his face before being replaced by horror. “Oh.”
Clay took a step forward, the grin never leaving his face. “Tubbo—”
Your hand shot forward, grabbing onto his wrist before he could take another step. His arm was tense underneath your touch, but he stopped the moment your skin met his. “Clay,” you said quickly, your words rushed and hurried, “stop, please.”
He turned, looking back at you over his shoulder. You shook your head at him. “I’m sure it was an accident. Tubbo would never poison anyone deliberately, let alone me.”
You heard a soft hiccup, then Tubbo spoke. “I-I wouldn’t, I swear it! I just... I thought cooking pufferfish would make them less toxic for other people.”
Niki raised her hand, her face pleading as her eyes darted back and forth between Dream and Tubbo. “I can vouch for him, and not just because we’re friends. He might have built up his own tolerance for pufferfish poison, but I don’t think he realized just how bad it could turn out to be.”
Tubbo nodded frantically, looking smaller than ever as he finally lifted his head. “Seriously, Dream, I would never do it intentionally, I promise.” He turned to look at you, his sides shaking as your gaze met his.
“I’m sorry, [Y/N],” he whispered, honesty and desperation soaking into every syllable he spoke, “I really am.”
Your face softened immediately, and you could only hope he knew how sincere you were being. “I forgive you, Tubbo.” Your eyes flit to the man in front of you. “Do you, Clay?”
You couldn’t see his expression from where you were sitting, but the look of terror on Tubbo’s face said it all. “Yes,” he said, “but only because you do.”
Your grip around his wrist tightened. “Clay, I’m positive. Please, just let it be.” You tugged a little, and he turned, watching as you kicked your legs at him with a small smile. “I’m all better now, see?”
The coldness in his gaze finally seemed to melt, and he shook his head at you, his lips twitching. “Fine.” Walking back over to you, you tucked your legs back against you as he sat on the bed, levelling a glare at the crowd gathered in front of you. “Now everyone, get out.”
There was a whistle. “Jeez, aggressive mu—”
“Tommy,” Wilbur said again, already tugging at the blond’s collar as he tread toward the hall, “an angry Dream is not someone you want to mess with.”
Tommy glowered as everyone filed out of the room, his voice fading away as they disappeared outside. “Ugh, you are such a killjo—”
Sapnap sent you a friendly smile as his hand wrapped around the door handle. “I hope you feel better soon, [Y/N].”
You returned his grin with a grateful look. “Thanks, Sapnap.”
With one last wave, he pulled the door shut, leaving you alone with Clay. Shifting forward slightly, you swung your legs off the bed, nudging him with your side. “Clay?” you murmured, your eyes searching his face. It was at times like this he was easier to read.
With a sigh, he hung his head in his hands, the vein in his neck bulging out. “God, I know he means well, but I still kind of want to wring Tubbo’s neck, right now.”
You leaned against him, pressing your cheek to his bicep. “Clay, don’t say that.”
He lifted his head, growling. “I know, I know! It’s just—”
He bit his lip, then sighed again, his arm reaching up to pull you onto his lap. Shifting you around so that you were facing him, his leaned his forehead against yours, his hot breath tickling your skin.
“You don’t know how scared I was,” he whispered, sincere and true. “I never want to lose you. Ever.”
Heat crawled up your neck, and your head spun, but not for the same reasons as before. “C-Clay.”
His hand stroked along your back. “It’s the truth, y’know? I’d never lie to you, and I mean every word.” Leaning upward, he pressed his lips to your forehead as he spoke, the words shaking against your skin. “You mean more to me than you may ever know.”
You hummed, your heart blossoming in your chest. “Even if that’s the case,” you said, “you don’t need to be so upset, anymore.” You felt his lips leave your forehead, and you peered up at him through your lashes. “I don’t plan on going anywhere.”
You leaned back in his arms, reaching up to brush your fingertips over his freckles. A soft smile tugged at your lips as you watched him melt a little at the gesture. “Now,” you said, quiet yet firm, “promise me you won’t be mad at Tubbo the next time you see him.”
He blinked. “W-What?”
You pursed your lips. “Clay.”
He chuckled. “Alright, alright. I promise.” A sly grin slipped onto his face. “But only if...”
You raised a brow at him. “Only if...?”
You half-wanted to smack the stupid grin off his stupidly perfect face. “Only if you give me a kiss.”
You giggled, slipping your arms over his shoulder and around his neck. He always knew how to make you laugh, even at serious times like this. Leaning forward, you pressed your lips to his in a sweet kiss. He still tasted like freshly squeezed lemonade, gleaming in the light of the sweet summer sun. You felt him smile against you, and you pulled away mirroring his expression.
“There,” you whispered, running your fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck. “Does that seal the deal?”
He hummed, tilting his head at you while mischief danced in his eyes. “Maybe you should do it again just to make sure.”
You rolled your eyes at him, but couldn’t stop the giddy smile from spreading across your face.
Your picnic may have been a disaster, but you wouldn’t mind ending your days wrapped in Clay’s arms more often.

You know one of my favorite Star Wars fic tropes? Evil, feral Anakin being horribly mistreated his whole life and hurt, and then being comforted and nursed back to health by Obi-Wan. And instantly imprinting on him, like, in a "I will kill anyone for you" way. Could be any Obi-Wan! Nice Obi-Wan for that sweet sweet hurt/comfort and kisses and turning Anakin from his murderous ways with the power of kindness! Evil Obi-Wan for sweet double trouble action and delicious obsession with each other!!
this is also one of my favorite star wars tropes!!! i love a needlessly protective and feral Anakin who distrusts everyone except for Obi-Wan.
unfortunately. um. this went a little sideways. and there is no being nursed back to health. but there's some delicious obsession and protectiveness and also future mutual obsession so i'm counting the prompt fill as like 3.5 out of 5 stars for following the prompt, which is. let's be honest, higher than most of my prompt fills. this is a bit dark and contains references to mind tricks, but there is no sex or kissing that could be construed as dub con. just like. dub con emotions i guess
(2.2k)
Quinlan has that look in his eyes, as if he’s about to say something that he knows Obi-Wan won’t like.
Carefully, Obi-Wan puts down his cup of tea and laces together his fingers in his lap. He can already feel a seed of anger blooming inside of him. Since Anakin has re-entered his life and the Temple, he’s found that this deep, swirling rage is harder to give to the Force. And easier to feel at a moment’s notice.
Like almost all the differences in his life now, this can be put on Anakin through no fault of the boy’s own.
After all, Obi-Wan thinks to himself, it is much easier to feel this sort of fury at the galaxy’s injustices when living with someone who has suffered most all of the most grievous kinds.
“Just say it, Quinlan.” Obi-Wan says.
Vos clears his throat. “Where is...your charge?”
“My charge,” he repeats, unimpressed. “You know his name.”
“I know both of his names,” Quinlan fires back. “Does he prefer Anakin or Vader?”
The anger inside of him grows larger at the mention of Vader. As if Anakin would ever prefer the name Sidious gave to him. As if he had chosen it for himself.
As if the Jedi had played no part in the birth of Vader.
“Anakin is asleep,” is all Obi-Wan says.
Quinlan makes a show of peering down the hallway of Obi-Wan’s quarters to the two closed bedroom doors. “In whose bed?”
His hands tighten into fists beneath the table. “That is a bold accusation to make.”
“Why?” his old friend’s posture is forcibly casual, slumped in his seat and hand loosely wrapped around his cup. Obi-Wan wonders if this is how he looks when he’s undercover on missions. The thought settles heavily into his stomach and makes him sit up straighter. If this is a mission to Quinlan Vos, then what is his objective? What does he want with Obi-Wan?
With Anakin?
“The boy’s legally allowed to spread his legs for anyone he wants, Obi-Wan. He's nineteen and everything.”
Obi-Wan can feel his teeth grind together. The fury in his chest is building at an alarmingly fast rate. The thought of anyone touching Anakin like that when the boy’s so obviously traumatized and in need of a tender hand--if he were a lesser Jedi, he’d snarl at Vos to leave.
“Any consent Anakin offers anyone would be dubious at best,” he snaps. “He is nineteen, but he has spent the past ten years of his life being tortured and enslaved by Darth Sidious.”
Quinlan narrows his eyes and looks over Obi-Wan’s face. “That’s not your fault,” he finally says quietly, leaning forward as if to grip his arm before he thinks better of it. “Obi-Wan, listen to me. What happened to Anakin is tragic. Awful. Despicable. But it is not your fault.”
Obi-Wan looks away, his jaw clenched tightly before he forces himself to relax. “I only blame myself for not verifying what I was told.”
“Do you blame the Jedi Council then? For sending the boy away?”
“My master begged me to train the boy, Vos. And while I was in the Halls of Healing, they sent him back to Tatooine. And no one ever checked to make sure he got there. Sidious grabbed him because we--because they allowed him to. And then spent ten years torturing and breaking down a child right under our very noses! Who would you blame, Vos?”
“Sidious,” the other man answers easily. “The Council had no way of knowing that Sidious even knew about the boy, that he was in any danger at all--”
“He was nine!” Obi-Wan roars, slamming a fist on the table, unable to swallow the dark, heavy fury anymore. “He was a child. A slave! They were going to send him back there!”
“To his mother!”
“To his chains,” Obi-Wan corrects fiercely.
Vos purses his lips and crosses his arms. “He is not a child anymore, Obi-Wan. He’s a killer. He’s dangerous. It’s worrying to me that you can’t see it. Or don’t want to see it.”
Obi-Wan wants to scoff. Anakin Skywalker is not dangerous. The boy gets night terrors, begs to be let into Obi-Wan’s bed, and can only sleep if he’s being cuddled up against his chest. He holds his blasted hand in public because he’s terrified of being separated from Obi-Wan again. He’s refused to even touch his lightsaber since the first night Obi-Wan stumbled upon him, bleeding in one of the lower levels of Coruscant. There are some days he won’t even let Obi-Wan touch him to hold him, and he shakes apart in the shadowy corner of his closet, reliving traumas Obi-Wan can’t help him with.
Dangerous. Dangerous.
“No, Obi-Wan, come on. You have to see. The boy’s turning you against the Jedi, against the Council!” “He doesn't need to," Obi-Wan says coldly. "The Jedi seem to be doing a fine job of that themselve."
“That's what I'm talking about!” Vos exclaims, waving an incensed hand. “The Obi-Wan Kenobi I knew would never say that! He would never think a bad thing about the Order, let alone say it! Let alone threaten to leave in the middle of a war if the Council didn’t grant him permission to keep the boy in his rooms! People talk, Obi-Wan! They’re not being kind!”
A thought bubbles up in Obi-Wan’s mind, vicious and sharp. Obi-Wan should not expect kindness from the Jedi. Not about Anakin. Everything they’ve ever done to and said about the boy proves that. Obi-Wan would have to abandon Anakin again to ensure the Council’s kindness and trust in him.
Obi-Wan would rather die than abandon the boy now when he needs him so obviously. He’d rather Fall than turn his back on Anakin, even if that’s what it took to stay in the Order.
“I think you should leave, Vos,” Obi-Wan murmurs quietly. “I think there is little left to say.”
His old friend stares at him from across the table in shock before he stands up without another word. At the door to his quarters, he freezes but doesn’t turn around. “You are attached, Obi-Wan. The Jedi Council will not stand for it. They will not allow it to continue.”
There’s something off with his voice, but Obi-Wan is too concerned with what he’s said to focus on anything else. “What do you mean?” he asks sharply, springing to his feet.
But Vos just shakes his head and leaves.
Obi-Wan collapses back into his seat as the door slides shut behind the man, his head buzzing with thoughts. That had sounded like a warning. Would the Council be so bold, so cruel, as to separate Obi-Wan and Anakin forcefully?
Yes, the thought flashes across his mind, followed by a swell of fury.
And then there’s a sleepy little questioning tug on the bond stretching between him and Anakin. His charge must have just woken up and found Obi-Wan still missing.
Obi-Wan tugs back, helpless against the urge to comfort Anakin. The bond explodes in a tidal wave of joy, the way it always does when Obi-Wan uses their illicit connection to communicate. He hadn’t in the early days, too afraid of the Council and the Code to do something so forbidden.
Now he cannot seem to muster enough regard for the Jedi to care. It is nice to feel Anakin in his mind, where he belongs. Where he’s always belonged.
---
In the bedroom that Obi-Wan keeps on insisting is not theirs, Vader allows his eyes to open as he slips out of meditation. He had been too forceful there at the end with Vos, fed him the exact words he needed him to tell his new master.
That sort of mind trick is too sloppy and easily discovered. It is much harder to trace emotional manipulation, especially over time. He’s been doing it for months now, the Jedis’ mental shields no match for his raw power trained to be sharp as a vibroblade.
It’s all just been a matter of slowly strengthening the other Jedis’ already existing mistrust and doubt about him, all the while crying to Obi-Wan about his past and his fears. It served to highlight the Jedi hypocrisy to his new master, and when he felt that first seed of anger grow in Kenobi’s mind, he encouraged it to grow faster.
The downside, of course, has been that Obi-Wan sees him as a scared child in need of protection. Vader is working on that too though, lengthening the touches they share and letting his shields fall at inopportune moments, like when he’s playing with himself in the fresher, so his master understands that Vader is capable of bringing him pleasure of all kinds.
It’s very important Obi-Wan understands that he can get everything he needs from Vader alone. There will be no one else, for either of them.
Sidious will die soon. The Jedi will die sooner. Vader and Obi-Wan can take their proper place, as Emperors of the Galaxy.
After Obi-Wan falls, of course.
It won’t take long now though.
Joy at the thought of one day looking into Obi-Wan’s golden eyes pushes Vader out of their bed and into the common area. He rubs at his eyes with the back of his hand a few times, and then it’s Anakin who’s crossing the space separating him from his master so he can settle in Obi-Wan’s lap.
Obi-Wan accepts him into his arms immediately, and Anakin has to fight the urge to smile in victory as he squirms in an attempt to get comfortable, only stopping when he’s straddling his master, sitting directly over his cock.
He wraps his arms around his master’s neck and buries his face in the juncture between his shoulder and throat.
Feeling daring, he licks slightly at the skin there, just to feel the way Obi-Wan’s hands tighten on his hips. “Missed you,” he murmurs, inhaling greedily.
Nothing in the entire universe smells as good as Obi-Wan, holds Anakin as gently as Obi-Wan, cares as much about him as Obi-Wan does.
He’d kill everyone in the galaxy for his master, if it was asked of him. He wouldn’t even think twice about it. And one day, soon, his master will feel the same.
Especially when his pesky Order has been dealt with, an execution order stamped with Sidious’ name. The only good thing his old master has ever given him.
The Jedi will die, Anakin will be blameless, and Obi-Wan will be safe from harm’s way. That’s why he’d had to push Vos so messily at the end there. Obi-Wan needs to be safe before the planned Order #66, and there’s no telling what Sidious will do now that Anakin has escaped.
“I heard voices,” he prompts, when Obi-Wan seems content to just sit silently and trace shapes on the bare skin of his back.
Obi-Wan hums. “Yes,” he admits. “An...old friend came to visit.”
Anakin bites gently at the skin of Obi-Wan’s throat and pulls back enough to make eye contact. He doesn’t know if his eyes are blue or gold right now, but either way Obi-Wan seems entranced by them. Riveted.
He pouts. “Your old friends never stay around long enough to meet me,” he says with a tremble in his voice, as if he cares about Obi-Wan’s old friends.
Obi-Wan reaches a hand up and thumbs over Anakin’s bottom lip. Anakin holds his breath. It’ll ruin everything if he sucks at it right now, despite how much he’s craving to map the whorls with his tongue.
“Anakin,” Obi-Wan breathes out, and Anakin changes his grasp so he’s now holding tightly to the front of his robes. “I must tell you something you may not want to hear.”
The Dark inside of him roars and snarls at this statement. If Obi-Wan has decided to make him leave, Anakin will not go quietly. Anakin will kill the entire Jedi Order himself, until this glowing angel--so warm, so bright in the Force--only has him.
“The Council will try to take you away from me,” his master murmurs.
Anakin makes his eyes go round and wet. It’s not even that much of an act: he just has to think of Obi-Wan agreeing with his stupid Council, and suddenly he’s appropriately tearful and afraid.
“No, no, Anakin, don’t cry,” his master croons, grasping the back of his neck and touching their foreheads together. Then, in a firmer tone, he says the words Anakin has been waiting to here for months. “I will not let that happen. We must leave the Order. I’m sorry, dear one. I can only imagine how much you wanted this place to be your home.”
Anakin has to rip his head out of Obi-Wan’s grasp and bury it in his neck so his dear master can’t see his smirk. Oh, Obi-Wan. The man may never understand that the only thing Anakin wants is already holding him tightly against his chest.
But Anakin will remind him. Anakin will remind him for the rest of his life.
“When do we leave?” Anakin whimpers, wondering if he’s overdoing it slightly, but Obi-Wan’s grip on his back only tightens.
When Obi-Wan speaks, his voice doesn’t waver at all. There’s not a single shred of indecision in his force signature either. “Tonight,” his master says, brushing a barely there kiss against the crown of his head. “We leave tonight.”
Vader smiles in bliss and burrows impossibly further into his master’s arms, nipping at his master’s skin again, just because he knows he will not be pushed away. This is the safest place in the galaxy, and now it will be his forever.
Victory tastes sweet. Obi-Wan’s skin tastes even sweeter.

Timorous - Itadori Yuji
I love hybrid au’s for the fact that I can google deep dive animal research for hours lol and speaking of research I went with a bunny, breed being a French lop with speckles. also this is a college au my guys, gender neutral reader! 6k words
A bit of a size difference thing here? Itadori is a tiger and tigers are bigger than rabbits...so I made him bigger and by that logic he’s bigger than you...tiger big rabbit small...I hope that makes sense lol and both reader and itadori are adorably skittish in this :) at least I think it’s adorable
To say Itadori had a problem would be both an understatement and an over exaggeration, depending on who you asked. Megumi said he was blowing things out of proportion while Nobara agreed that this dilemma he had was probably the biggest problem of their generation.
He had a crush on you, a rabbit hybrid. A soft, wonderful little thing with long ears and cute speckles all around your body. And it wouldn’t be such a problem if not for the painful fact of who Itadori was: a tiger hybrid. A predator nearly directly above you, much larger and stronger than you could ever hope to be.
He laid eyes on you during your first year of university, back in a prerequisite class for the major both of you had chosen. Seeing you walk in surrounded by other rabbits and sitting at the front of the class, he could barely take his eyes off you and when you said your name, he committed it to memory.
Everything about you was perfect, everything Itadori could ask for in a partner and more, but he knew there wasn’t any hope out there that he could approach you, at least not alone and especially not in your first year. So he waited patiently, almost too patiently, for the right opportunity to talk to you.
He waited so long it was now almost the end of your second year.
“Alright everyone, I’d like you to think about who you want to pair up with for this project and report back to me by the end of the week. Anyone that doesn’t have a partner by then will be paired up.” The professor announced at the end of class, closing up the textbook you’d been pouring over for an hour. This was the perfect opportunity for Itadori to get close to you.
Lingering in the classroom, Itadori packed up his things slowly and watched as the usual people you were with left class while you hung around to ask the professor a question. Holding his breath, Itadori walked out of the classroom at the same time as you.
You didn’t look in his direction at all, keeping your head down and ears framing your face. Itadori could smell the subtle unease rolling off you in waves and it disheartened him enough that he watched you walk away.
“H-hey (Y/N)!” Mustering up the courage to say your name, Itadori rushed over to your disappearing form. Looking over your shoulder, your eyes went wide seeing Itadori running toward you.
“What uh, what can I help you with?” This was the first time you were speaking to him and your voice was trembling. Your fingers were pulsing from how hard you were holding onto the strap of your bag, and you only briefly made eye contact with him.
“I was wondering…” Itadori’s tail twitched nervously and a lump began to form in his throat the longer he looked at you. You were just so cute it physically hurt him and all Itadori wanted to do was bundle you in his arms and nuzzle your fuzzy ears.
“I was wondering if you want to be partners for that project in class?” Seeing you flinch when he raised his hand up to scratch at the back of his neck, Itadori winced and tucked both hands behind his back.
“Uhm…” Worrying your lip, you took a look up and down the halls. There was a decent amount of people milling about, giving you a little more peace of mind. Even though Itadori was an arms length away he still took up a large portion in your field of vision.
“Y-you don’t have to give me an answer right now!” Putting both hands up in surrender, Itadori gasped as you stumbled back, clearly frightened by the sudden movement and his long claws. “Sorry! Sorry, I’m so sorry!”
Now he really felt bad. He scared you bad enough that you were pressed against the wall behind you, slightly crouched like you were ready to run away. Taking a generous step back, Itadori once again tucked his hands behind his back, idly grabbing onto the base of his tail as well.
“Can I give you an answer later?” You whispered, slowly coming to a full stand again.
“Of course! We actually have a few classes together later, so you can tell me then if you want.”
“Okay…”
“Itadori! M-my name is Itadori!” Blushing lightly as he told you his name, he watched you think it over.
“Okay Itadori.” Nodding curtly, you pressed your lips into a thin line and started to shuffle down the hall. “I’ll tell you later.”
“Bye!” Waving at your retreating form, Itadori felt a trickle of hope. Even if you didn’t say yes to being his partner, at least now you knew his name.
“Excuse me, Itadori?” Two classes later and you approached his desk, keeping a fair distance away.
“Yes?” Looking at you with hearts in his eyes, Itadori sent you a beaming smile with all his sharp teeth on display.
“Why do you want to be my partner?” The question was unexpected, at least for him, and his smile fell.
“Well I- I just thought it’d be nice?” Panicking as he saw confusion flash across your face, Itadori sat up a little straighter in his chair. “N-nice to get to know my fellow classmates! We’re in the same major, so why not get more acquainted?” Stretching his mouth into a tense smile, Itadori let out a breath the same time you did.
“That’s actually a relief. I thought you wanted to be my partner to make me do all the work.” He visibly watched your shoulders relax, the unease in your stance somewhat gone.
“No, never! I would never do that to you! In fact, I’ll do all the work if you want me to! Just say the word, (Y/N)!” Bolting up from his chair, Itadori slammed his hands on his desk. It was probably a good thing you weren’t close to him, you didn’t flinch as hard at his sudden movements.
“We can work on it together.” Laughing under your breath, Itadori’s chest tightened up at seeing a soft smile grace your face.
“So you’ll be my partner? For the project?” Nearly running around the room when you nodded, Itadori forced himself to take a deep breath instead. “That’s great!” His tail swayed happily from side to side, and Itadori had a silly smile on his face as he looked at you.
“So uh, I’m going to take my seat now.” You said slowly, unnerved by his unmoving smile. “But we should meet up later? To discuss what we’ll do for the project.”
“Good idea!” Ripping a piece of paper out of the corner of his notebook, Itadori scribbled his phone number down and held it out to you. “Text me anytime, I’ll answer!”
“Good to know.” Chuckling softly, you took the paper and Itadori swore he would never forget the way your fingers brushed against his. With one last final goodbye muttered under your breath you went to your seat.
Itadori watched you for the rest of class, just waiting to see you take out your phone and text him. He hadn’t seen you do anything with the paper he gave you except tuck it away into your pocket.
Keeping his phone clutched in his hand for the rest of the day, Itadori experienced the highest of highs whenever he got a notification, and then the lowest of lows when it turned out not to be you.
At seven pm, just after eating dinner, Itadori finally received the message he’d been waiting for all along.
(Unknown number): Hello, Itadori? It’s (Y/N) :)
(Itadori): HI HELLO HOW ARE YOU
He immediately cringed after sending the message. What kind of person replied like that to someone they’d just met?
(Y/N): I’m good lol I was wondering when you were free to meet up? I don’t have any classes tomorrow if you’re free
(Itadori): yes yes I’m free whenever tomorrow!
(Y/N): that’s great, how about we meet at the north library at 1?
(Itadori): I’ll be there!!
Itadori could hardly close his eyes let alone calm down enough to go to sleep that night. Much to the chagrin of his roommate Megumi, Itadori got up several times during the night to pace around the room and rummage through his closet to choose the perfect outfit.
He was nearly late meeting up with you, having properly gone to sleep just before 4am and sleeping through his alarm. Stumbling through his room, Itadori just barely remembered to grab his bag before he sprinted out of the room and to the library.
“(Y/N)!” Screaming your name as he got closer, he caught a lot of stares from people and from you.
“Did you run all the way here?” You asked, looking over his breathless, sweaty body nearly collapsing.
“Were you waiting long? I’m sorry I was late!” Fumbling to grab his phone, the time read 1:10pm.
“No, it’s okay, don’t worry about it!” Your cheeks were flushed with embarrassment. Not only had he ran all the way here just to meet you, but he had made quite a scene while doing it. You were eager to get inside and away from all the people passing you by and looking curiously between the two of you.
“Let's...let’s go inside…” Itadori panted, light headed from the run but still making his way to open the door for you. Slumping into the first available seat at the first table he saw, Itadori let his dry, narrowed eyes look over you.
It was a warm spring day and you’d chosen the cutest outfit, one that showed off the speckles on your ears and skin. Itadori always liked them, likening them to his own tiger stripes on his ears and tail. He wanted to compare markings with you, trace a line with the dots on your body and learn more about them.
“Have you had a chance to go over the list of topics our professor gave? A few others have already chosen their topics, so we have to cross some out.” Pulling out the assignment, you showed Itadori the ones you’d crossed off and the ones you marked having interest in. Even your handwriting had Itadori wanting to coo at you.
“Whatever you pick is fine.” He replied dumbly, staring at the way you’d written your name on the top of your paper.
“You should have some say in what we choose!” You pushed back, slightly shaking your head.
“No, whatever you want is fine, I swear.” Looking up at you with rosy cheeks and a dry mouth, Itadori watched the gears turn in your head before you looked away and back to the paper.
“If you say so.” Shrugging your shoulders, you looked over the list more seriously before circling a topic and showing it back to him. “Is this one fine?”
“It’s perfect.” Just like you, Itadori almost said. Pulling out his laptop, Itadori put it between the two of you. “We can start researching and making a rough draft, I was actually looking some stuff up last night about the different topics.”
Not using a private browser last night was Itadori’s first mistake. His second mistake was opening Google with you right next to him, where you saw exactly what he’d been looking up during his sleepless night.
French lops, French lops with speckles, French lop ears, how do bunnies get speckles, what do rabbit hybrids like to do for fun, rabbit hybrid favorite food, favorite things to give rabbit hybrids, how to befriend rabbit hybrids, can prey and predator hybrids be friends, what to do if you’re a predator that has a crush on a rabbit hybrid-
Letting out an indistinguishable noise from the back of his throat, Itadori slammed his laptop closed. His face was bright red, not that you could see much of it because he had slammed his face into the table in shame.
Your soft giggle was immediately picked up by him, and Itadori nearly melted from the chair and onto the floor, dissolving into a puddle of nothing but embarrassment and regret. He thought about switching classes or switching majors entirely, anything to save him from having to face you again after this.
“All of my spots grew in by the time I was five, in case you were still curious, Itadori.” He actually was, almost more than he was last night. The internet had given him answers, but just as many questions he still wanted to ask you.
“Really?” Smooshing his cheek against the table, Itadori turned to look at you. You didn’t seem phased at all from what you’d seen, not if the small smile on your face was anything to go by.
“Mhmm.” Opening up his computer again, you took a brief glance at some of the questions he’d looked up. “And I’m assuming from your research you learned I’m a strict herbivore? My favorite type of food is fruit, mangoes and melons especially.”
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.” Still hanging his head low, Itadori pulled himself up from the table. He had wanted to get to know you more naturally, not have you find his obsessive search history.
“I want to! And It seems like you want to know, too!” Gesturing to the screen, you giggled when he hit his forehead against the table again. Patting him on the back for a few seconds revitalised him, the fact that you initiated physical contact enough to have him sitting straight in his chair again.
“I do, a lot! I’m really curious about-” Meeting your eyes for a second, Itadori screwed his eyes shut and forced the next words out of his mouth. “I’m really curious about you, (Y/N). I really want to get to know you more.” Nobara and Megumi were going to be so proud of him for finally saying those words to you. He’d been lamenting about wanting to befriend you for nearly two years, it was time to act on that desire.
“You can ask me any question, Itadori.” A soft warmth settled over your face and you tilted your head forward, blocking out your view of the world with your ears. Truth be told, you’d never had a predator show such genuine interest in you before, and it had your heart bumping hard against your ribs.
“My first question is: can we be friends, (Y/N)?” There wasn’t a doubt in Itadori’s mind that you hadn’t seen the last question he looked up, about having a crush on you. He almost wanted to address it, wanted to get his confession out of the way. But it wasn’t the right time or place, and there wasn’t a doubt in Itadori’s mind that if he confessed to you right now you wouldn’t reject him.
“What did your search say about that one? Is it possible for us to be friends?”
“100% possible.” Itadori said with no hesitation.
“Then yes, we can totally be friends.” There was a brief pause between the two of you, one filled by your nervous laughter and Itadori’s relieved sigh.
“Alright then friend, let’s get started on this project.”
Itadori tried his best to focus on the project, he really did. He typed up everything you said, bookmarked everything you wanted and even went back and forth between the stacks to get the books you needed for the project. But his mind was wrapped up in the new title of your relationship, and the greed he felt deep inside himself to make it something more romantic.
By the time you left the library it was well past five pm and the sun was already beginning to dip behind the campus buildings and to the horizon. Helping you clean and pack up, Itadori was astounded at the amount of time that passed; it barely felt like an hour had gone by.
“Man, I’m starving!” Itadori exclaimed as you left the library, throwing his head back and inhaling the fresh air.
“Me too.” You agreed, fatigued from all the work you’d just done and still needed to do.
“You wanna head to the dining hall together?”
“Sure.” Following his lead, you walked through campus. You still kept your distance from Itadori, not quite able to shed how nervous being around him made you, but with time he hoped it would come to pass. Someday, Itadori hoped to hold your hand in his.
Sitting down at a quiet table together, Itadori wasn’t sure how to make conversation with you now. At the library it was easy, there was the project he could talk about and keep a conversation going with that. But here, he was drawing blanks.
“So Itadori, what-”
“Yuji!” Just as you’d started to speak, the familiar voice of Nobara cut in all the way from across the dining hall. Both of you turned to see Nobara waltzing in with a big grin on her face and Megumi trailing after her.
“Oh god.” This was the one time he didn’t want his friends to come and sit with him. But there they were, already collecting food and coming to sit down at the table.
“Found you!” Nobara giggled behind her hand, her own tiger ears relaxing flat against her head.
“Yup, you did.” Speaking behind tight lips, Itadori took a glance at you. Megumi had taken the seat next to you and he easily dwarfed your smaller body. All of them did, it almost looked like you were a child among adults.
“Nice to see you again, (Y/N).” Making sure his large fluffy wolf tail wasn’t brushing against you, Megumi gave you a polite nod and you returned it.
“W-what?! You two know each other?” In all the time Itadori has been crying over you, he never knew of Megumi's connection to you.
“Yeah, Tsumiki and (Y/N) are roommates.”
“Really?” Itadori gasped loudly, exaggeratedly turning his back to you.
“Mhmm!” Picking up your utensils, you began to eat. “Having a wolf as a roommate was kind of scary at the beginning, but we get along great now!”
Itadori was floored. Positively flabbergasted. He could have gotten to know you this whole time by using the excuse of being Megumi’s roommate and best friend as a reason to drop by and ‘check in’ on Tsumiki and see you by extension.
Sending a sharp, pointed look to Megumi, Itadori began to eat in a huff. He would have to grill his friend later on why the connection was never brought up.
“Have you two been here long?” Nobara asked, tapping her long claws against the table.
“No, we just got here.” Your voice only sounded a little meek when you replied, only able to meet Nobara’s intense gaze for a moment before looking down at your plate again.
“Yeah, we just came from the library. We’re partners on a class project.” Mumbling childishly, Itadori snorted at the surprised looks on his friends faces.
“You are?” Nobara almost gasped. “Who asked who?”
“I asked.” Itadori raised his hand.
“And you agreed, (Y/N)? Just like that?”
“Well, not really.” Giggling softly behind your hand, you took a glance at Itadori. “I told him I’d think about it first. I know we’re all in university now and should be adults, but I still get so scared around predators, I needed to weigh my options.”
“Did Yuji say he’d do all the work?” Megumi chimed in.
“He did! It was pretty funny, I thought the desk was going to fall over.”
“Sounds like Yuji.” Snorting, Megumi gave Itadori a look before eating his food.
“Hold on, I still got a couple questions.” Rapidly tapping the table, Nobara flicked her fingers between you and Itadori.
“Can’t they wait until we’re done?” Itadori already had food stuffed in his mouth, his cheeks were bulging out quite a bit. You had also started to eat the mountain of vegetables on your plate.
“Alright, fine.” Heaving a sigh, Nobara grabbed the juice she’d gotten. “But don’t think I’ll forget!”
It was a blessing that Nobara ended up forgetting that she wanted to grill you and Itadori because there would have been no avoiding all the awkward questions she was sure to ask. As your meal progressed, she got onto the topic of beauty products for tiger hybrids and that was all that occupied her mind for a good while.
“(Y/N).” Catching you by the elbow as you walked out of the dining hall almost an hour and a half later, Itadori looked up at the dark sky. “Let me walk you to your dorm.”
“You don’t have to, I wouldn’t want you to go out of your way! Nobara and I can walk back together, we live in the same dorm.”
“Ha well, uh actually…” Scratching the back of her head, Nobara grabbed onto Megumi's sleeve. “Actually, Megumi and I are going to go to a…” Swatting him on the back, Nobara fell silent.
“My father sent Tsumiki and I some more things and I promised to give Nobara some old books.”
“Yup, books! Exactly! So you two walk together and we’ll see you later!” Grabbing onto the back of Megumi’s shirt, Nobara sprinted away, her orange and black tail the last thing you saw before she turned the corner.
“Let’s go, (Y/N).” Itadori tugged on your sleeve gently, bringing your focus back to him. Walking side by side, the night time didn’t seem as scary compared to if you had been alone. You generally tried to avoid being out alone at night, but with Itadori it felt like the sun was still high in the sky.
“Are you cold?” Itadori broke the silence that had settled over you.
“Huh?”
“You just shivered.” Right as he said that, another gust of wind went through the air and blew your ears back, making a strong shiver go up your spine. “Here.” Itadori was already taking off his thick hoodie and pushing it into your arms.
“But you’ll be cold!” Looking at the long sleeve he had on underneath, surely it couldn’t be enough to keep him warm.
“Nonsense, I’ll be fine. Put it on.” It was a miracle that Itadori hadn’t fallen onto the ground from how lightheaded he was. He had given you his hoodie in the spur of the moment and now his actions were catching up to him.
“Okay.” Giving him one last look, you put it on. Swimming in fabric and with the scent of Itadori all around you, it was truly a sight to behold. “How do I look?” You chuckled, trying to adjust the giant hoodie onto your body.
“You look good.” There was a high lilt to the end of his sentence, and Itadori slapped a hand over his face and turned his back to you. If he looked any longer, he would pass out from how cute you looked.
“Thanks Itadori, it’s really warm!”
“N-no problem.” He seriously couldn’t look at you, and seeing your sweater paws out of the corner of his eye had him tripping over his own feet. Thankfully and tragically, the walk to your dorm wasn’t too long, so Itadori didn’t have to deal with it for too long.
“Thanks for walking me back.” Giving him a smile, you began to take off the hoodie.
“K-keep it, keep it on.” Planting his hands on your shoulders, Itadori looked down at you. “I have a million, so just keep that one.” The mixture of your scent and his that was wafting up to his nose was going to be ingrained into his mind forever.
“Wow Itadori, you’re so nice! We should have become friends way sooner!” Patting him on the arm, you shuffled closer to the front door. “Text me when you get back to your dorm, okay?”
“I will!” Waving at you until you went inside, Itadori let out a breath he’d been holding in. The feel good chemicals in his brain were all flooding in at once; the day had gone from good, to great to perfect. Seeing you in his hoodie was one of the things Itadori had wanted for so long it hurt, and now that goal was finally reached.
His happiness turned to adrenaline, making his hands shake and body tremble from how excited he was to see you tomorrow and the next day and the day after that. He was so excited for the future that he ran all the way back to his dorm, letting out cheers and excited screams as he went.
(Itadori): made it to my dorm :)
(Y/N): have a good night!
(Itadori): you too! See you tomorrow!
Clutching his phone to his chest, Itadori threw open the door to his room and immediately made eye contact with Megumi.
“You!”
“Now let me explain-”
“Save it, wolfy! Tell me all about your relationship with (Y/N)!”
As days turned into weeks, Itadori noticed a subtle change in your demeanor around him. You slowly started to walk closer to him, sometimes close enough to occasionally brush shoulders. The fear that was so pungent before was now gone, only replaced with some unease whenever Itadori threw his hands around too much or chewed with his mouth open. All in all, Itadori felt like you could call him a true friend.
And what did friends do? Invite each other to parties of course! Being so personable and easy to get along with, it was only natural that Itadori got invited to a lot of events around campus, and he wanted you to join him.
Which is how you found yourself at probably the biggest party of the season, people pouring out of the doors and spilling into the yard around the university house chosen for this night.
“I’ve never been here before.” You mumbled to Itadori as you approached the house, flanked by Nobara and Megumi. Sure you’d been to parties before, but none this size.
“That’s okay, just stick by me!” Over the past few weeks the level of physical contact in your relationship with Itadori had risen high enough that he was able to put an arm around your shoulder and pull you a bit closer to him.
“Yeah (Y/N) we’ll make sure you have a good time!” Nobara chimed in, her words just a bit slurred. She had pregamed on the way to the party, the flask she kept offering you tucked snugly against her hip.
“Let’s find Maki and the others.” Fushiguro was the first to step into the house and take the lead on where to go. Pushing through the crowds of people for you, Itadori made sure you stayed close by his side.
Meeting up with Maki and a few other upperclassmen, you felt safe among the group. There was a plastic cup in your hand mixed with god knows what, the music was loud and overbearing, but you had been welcomed into the fray with open arms. No one looked twice at your floppy ears and tense body, they just launched into conversation like you’d always been there.
“G-gotta go bathroom.” Your words were slurring more than you expected after finishing your second cup of horribly mixed liquor. Standing away from the wall you’d been leaning against, the world was spinning.
“Need help?” Itadori held onto your elbow tightly, helping keep you stable.
“No.” Shaking your head slowly, you pushed him away. “I got this.”
“(Y/N), lemme show you where the bathroom is! I’ve been here like a million times!” Swooping in between you two, Nobara took confidently drunk steps with you under her arm.
“M’kay!” Giggling, you gave Itadori a wave and stumbled away with her.
“I’ll stay out here and keep guard!” She announced to not only you but to the people around you as well. Throwing open the door, you gave her a big thumbs up before slamming it closed and locking it.
Doing your business as quickly as possible, when you opened the door, Nobara was gone. You could hear her voice echoing throughout the house and when you turned a corner she was at the dining table playing beer pong and losing horribly.
Looking up and down the hall, you were at a loss at what to do. You didn’t remember the right way back to the group and Nobara was too ensconced in the drinking game she was a part of to be of any help.
Dragging your feet down the hall, you ended up at the front of the house, a far cry from where you wanted to be. There were so many people pushing past you to go deeper into the house, or yelling for others to come to them, some of them didn’t seem to care when they bumped you against the wall or nudged you a little too hard.
“Hey little bunny, you look a little lost.” You could smell the fox hybrid before you could see him appear before your eyes, cornering you against the wall as another wave of people walked by.
“I- no, I’m fine.” The lie was evident in your voice and he caught it right away.
“You sure? A little thing like you shouldn’t be all alone.” His voice was condescending, mocking you in plain sight. His soft red fur gleamed under the light of the house and while you would probably admire it from afar, now wasn’t the time.
Nodding instead of speaking, you looked down the hallway again. Surely someone would come looking for you and Nobara.
“Who’re you looking for, bunny? I could help you find them.” Leaning more into your space, the unnamed fox gave you a once over, flashing his teeth once he met your eyes. “Or maybe you were looking for me?”
“No.” The alcohol in your body was making it difficult to string together more than a few words or thoughts in your head, but you knew one thing for sure: you didn’t want to be around this guy anymore. The party was overwhelming enough as it was and adding him into the mix, a predator directly above you, was only making it worse.
“Aw, no need to be shy! All your dreams have come true!” Chuckling to himself, he grabbed onto your wrist. “Let’s go get you a drink, I’ll introduce you to some friends.”
“No.” You said a little louder, but he just ignored you. Trying to get your wrist free wasn’t working either and you quickly found yourself being dragged away from the wall. Digging your heels into the ground, you kept looking for a familiar flash of pink hair. “Itadori!” You shouted, voice mixing with the others in the air and hopefully travelling to the person it was intended for.
“You’re lookin’ for Itadori? Why, I know him! He’s my best friend, I’ll take you to him!” The fox hybrid sent you a sleazy grin, running his free hand through his hair.
“(Y/N).” A familiar heavy hand landed on your shoulder, preventing you from going anywhere.
“Who the hell are you?” The two men shared a sneer, sizing each other up. Finally getting your wrist free, you attached yourself to Itadori’s side.
“I’m their boyfriend. Now get lost.” Wrapping an arm around you, Itadori gave one last glare to the other man before turning and walking away. Getting you to the kitchen, he quickly got you a glass of water. “Drink this.”
“Thanks.” Downing it immediately, the growing tension in your body subsided just from having Itadori next to you.
“If anyone else gives you trouble, tell them I’m your boyfriend. I’m in sports clubs with a lot of the people here, they’ll know who I am.”
“Thanks.” Repeating yourself like a fool, you were overcome with sudden emotion and hugged Itadori. Burrowing your face into his chest, you muttered thanks over and over.
“S’no problem.” He grunted. Itadori was glad you couldn’t see the bright blush on his face right now; he’d only dreamed about hugging you almost every second of the day. Hugging you back, he let his hand come up and stroke your ears and your fur was just as soft as he imagined it to be.
For the rest of the night, Itadori was like your second shadow. He made sure you didn’t drink anymore alcohol, filling you up with water and snacks until you were as sober as he was. He also introduced himself as your boyfriend whenever the need arose, like constantly shouting ‘boyfriend coming through’ as he pushed through crowds for you.
“I hope you had fun, (Y/N).” Itadori said at the end of the night with Nobara passed out drunk being carried on his back.
“I did!” It was nice to meet some upperclassmen, a couple you learned were in your major as well. Fushiguro was walking with them a few feet in front of you, talking animatedly to them.
“That’s good. I was worried that the whole ‘boyfriend’ thing was making you uncomfortable.” A bashful blush coated Itadori’s face as he gave you a sideways glance. Your own cheeks got warmer as well.
“I uh, I kind of liked it.” You said quietly, hoping that he wouldn’t catch it.
“You did?” Of course he heard it. Stopping in his tracks, Itadori’s mouth hung open slightly. Biting his lip, Itadori checked to make sure Nobara was truly out before speaking again. “Well then, can we maybe make it official?”
Maybe it was the lingering energy from the party that was giving him the confidence to ask or maybe Itadori had finally lost it, either way there was no backtracking from what he had just said. Taking your lack of immediate answer as skepticism, Itadori quickly spoke up again.
“If you want, I can take you out on a proper date first! Truthfully I already have everything planned in my head, I’ve wanted to take you out on a date for a while now. B-but you don’t have to if you don’t want to! I just- I want you to give us a chance, but don’t feel pressured to say yes!”
His face was completely flushed, adrenaline pumping through his body. Whether you said yes or no, Itadori was just glad to have finally gotten it off his chest.
“I want to go on a date with you too.” You smiled gently at Itadori, playing with your fingers nervously. “I just have one question.”
“Yes?”
“Did you also Google best first dates to take a rabbit hybrid on?”
“(Y/N)!” Laughing breathlessly, Itadori felt the tension in his body release.
“It’s a fair question!” Laughing along with him, you started to walk down the street again.
“For your information, no I didn’t look that up.” A comfortable silence settled over you as the laughter died down. As soon as Itadori could get a second alone with you, he would. There was actually a lot to discuss for the date that he’d been planning since the first year of university.
“Mmmm…” Nobara groaned and both of you looked at her curiously.
“Nobara? Are you awake?” You asked, brushing the hair from her forehead.
“Kiss...kiss each other.” Her words just barely made sense and Itadori nearly dropped her once he made sense of what she’d said.
“Go back to sleep!” He shouted, nudging her with his shoulder. The blush that had managed to subdue itself was now back tenfold.
“We’ll kiss each other later, Nobara.” You added, fixing her hair and letting her relax onto Itadori again.
“Promise?” She sighed.
“Promise?” Itadori echoed.
“Yeah, I promise.”

Hii Bpp !!
I read your post on jimin 💜 and wanted to ask your thoughts on taehyung too ?
I am a baby army from last year stumbling my way into their contents and with there individual ig Accounts I got the impression that tae is very aware of his image ? Kind of like jimin too but like he’s a lot more open and carefree about it ? What are your thoughts on him ??
Thank uuuu !!!
Anon 2: Hi BPP! Could you share some of your thoughts on Tae? He's the member I feel like I understand the least, and get some contradicting? vibes from, so I would love to hear your thoughts on his personality, performance, anything.
**
Hi Anon(s),
I had a PSA on my old blog about how I speculate about the members, but for new followers, please note I write all I do about the boys knowing I could be way off base and completely wrong about them, but ultimately, I try to respect them as artists. With that out of the way, here goes:
*
Performance and personality were specifically asked for so let's start there. :)
Tae used to get a bit of a bad rep for being weird and a bit alien-like in their earlier years... I mean, didn’t Yoongi at some point say in the beginning Tae was the member he understood the least? So Anon, you're not alone and you're not the only person who gets contradicting vibes from Tae.
He's a very simple guy. I think his fans consider him to be mysterious, reserved, unique and all that but I think Tae is possibly the member who acts most like a typical Korean man in his 20s. I think Taehyung, and to a lesser degree Namjoon, are the most 'Korean guys' in the group i.e. the guys who most act like many Korean men I know. The way he says things, the way he asserts himself... in the West, Tae would be a Chad who idolizes his dad and who spent summer breaks at his grandparents' cottage where he developed a love for jazz. He loves his dad and wants to be like him, said at one point that he wants five kids, he posts thirst traps as though he's aiming to get those five kids as soon as possible.
*
Which brings me to anon's point of him being aware of his image. I agree. People might wonder why I say this given he's the guy who seems to care the least about showing facial hair, he often speaks and writes in a deadpan tone and is quick to tell off ARMYs/fans. He also seems to give the least fucks about what the company wants. All of these things are true and I think all of these things are qualities he's meticulously curated into his idol identity. When we add the fact he's the most conventionally handsome guy in the group, and that he's reminded of this as often as in every Bangtan Bomb, one can't blame him for also playing into that.
In terms of positives, something I like about Tae is how casually candid he is - he's not the type to fake it for long. Example: BTS Festa 2016 (timestamp: 21:03 - 25:00)
(The way Joon looks at Tae here gets me every. single. time. He was like "Tsk, this messy mf.")
Jimin stands out. Let's be frank. Festa 2016 was filmed sometime in the spring of 2016, BTS had done their Perfect Man cover with orange-haired Jimin the previous December. It was the '3:33 man in Fire MV' era. BTS were about to begin preparing for Blood, Sweat & Tears and the Wings comeback later that Fall. Jikook were jikooking like crazy in 2016. Jimin was preparing for Lie.
It was 2016 and Jimin stood out. All the members saw it, I think all the members felt it, but Tae was the one who actually voiced it (in an arguably petty/bratty/passive aggressive way but yeah). Btw, the way they all navigated this instance is one of the things that back then made me think they'd go far. But bringing it back to Tae, over the years he's become more refined in his delivery, but he still just says and does what he wants and rarely holds back. They're all a bit like this, but Tae really takes it lol. I like how simple Tae is in that way. He's probably the most predictable person in the Maknae Line.
*
Musically, I've come to really appreciate Tae's vocals. They've developed beautifully and I enjoy listening to his verses. His solo music debut is going to be a real force, I'm nearly certain.
On his dancing, I've said before that I think Yoongi is as good a dancer as Tae is, if not better, and that in my opinion Tae seems to do more dancing with his face than his body. I still think all of this is true, but I also think it seems to work for him. He's already a pretty good dancer but because he's a bit ambitious, I think he's preparing to showcase himself in a difficult choreography for his solo releases. Maybe he'll put aside his trademark 'laidback' dancing for something more intense.
We'll see. :)

20. warm soup
27. movie night

———
“It’s too cold out here, babe..we’re going home..”
Johnny drives with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on your thigh.
“So boring, Mr. Suh, aren’t you from Chicago? You should be used to this!” You laugh and look out the window.
The two of you decided to watch the sunset on New Year’s Eve while walking through the city, but ended up leaving early because Johnny couldn’t stop shaking from the cold.
“I am used to this, I just...don’t want you to suffer.” He shrugs his shoulders.
You scoff. “Yeah, right”
Johnny turns to you and smirks as he rubs his hand over your thigh slowly.
“How about we go to Target..pick up a few things..”
“Ahh..Target, that sounds good.”
You turn to him and smile.
He giggles, knowing that you loved to walk around Target for absolutely no reason.
“Right? We’ll get some vegetables and chicken to make you some warm soup, since you’re so cold.”
You rolled your eyes. “Weren’t you the one that said “it’s too damn cold right now, I can’t feel my 5-foot long legs?”
“And we’ll get some popcorn and trail mix and have a movie night!”
“Well, as long as you’re the one cooking.” You place your hand over his.
———
Back at his apartment, Johnny quickly cooked up soup for you. He used his mom’s recipe and put his all into making it perfect for you like he usually did.
You drank it with him while talking about your New Years resolutions.
“I just want to be happy with you... I think we should spend more time together.” He says while taking a sip of his delicious and warm soup.
You nodded. You knew that with your busy schedule and his busy schedule, you rarely had time together. But you still loved each other very much. You both wished you could have moments like this more often, but with Johnny’s life as an idol and your life as a teacher, you could only spend time together on weekends or at nights when he had to sneak out or you had to sneak in.
“We’ll be alright, Johnny..I love you.” Your eyes are warm and kind, that’s the reason why he fell for you in the first place. He felt so comfortable around you, he felt love radiant from your beautiful smile and aura. And you felt the same from him. Everything he displayed as an idol was only magnified behind the scenes.
He was just as soft and sweet as he appeared to be on TV. Sometimes, you couldn’t believe he was real.
He places his spoon down and then rubs his hand over yours on the table.
“Would you...consider marrying me? Like..would you want to spend your life...with me?” Johnny asks quietly while stumbling over his words.
Your eyes widened. “Of course, baby. I couldn’t imagine my life without you.”
Your voice was sweet and sincere, Johnny quickly pulled you into a hug.
“I love you too, baby, don’t let me go.”
———
Later that night, the two of you watched a movie together on Johnny’s bed. He set his projector up so you could lay comfortably in his arms. Almost too comfortably.
You fell in and out of sleep while watching Titanic, but Johnny didn’t bother you about it. He watched your cute face and ran his hand through your hair.
He rubbed circles into your back as well, making you relax onto him even more.
You woke up for the ending of the movie and felt sad when Jack drifted into the water.
“I don’t know why it always makes me sad, we already know it’s bound to happen.” You mutter.
“Just because we know it’s coming doesn’t mean the blow is softened.” Johnny whispers.
The movie ends just before the 1-minute countdown to the new year. You and Johnny kiss right as the fireworks go off at midnight.
They illuminate his room beautifully and you feel your heart flutter with emotions. You wrap your arms around Johnny’s neck and intertwine your tongue with his.
He holds you in his broad arms and kisses you until you fall asleep.
———
As you sleep, you dream about a date with Johnny.
You can’t see much, but you know that the two of you are ice skating on a frozen lake. Everything seems fine, you twirl around him and he holds your hand while smiling widely.
But then, a crack in the ice starts to form under Johnny, and despite him standing still, it continues to spread.
“Y/n?” He says with fear in his voice.
And suddenly, the crack opens completely and he falls into the icy water.
“Johnny!” You leap towards him and grab his arm.
“It’s okay, it’s okay..” He tries to be reassuring, but tears run out of his beautiful brown eyes.
“Don’t let me go!” You yell as he you struggle to pull him up. His face soon disappears under the water and his arm goes limp.
“Johnny!” You yell once again and jump up out of your sleep.
Johnny holds your arms and shakes you gently. “Y/n..y/n, I’m right here..it’s okay.”
You hold your face in your hands and sob.
“I’m sorry..it felt so real.”
He turns his bedside lamp on then turns back to you. “Did you have a bad dream?”
“Yeah..I just..I thought I lost you.”
Johnny pulls you into his arms and holds you close.
“Baby, no, I’m right here, I’ll always be here for you. It’s just a nightmare.”
He wipes your tears and kisses your forehead. “I love you.”
You sniffle. “I love you too.”
You scoot closer to him but feel something like your stomach.
“J-Johnny?”
You look under the blanket. “Are you hard right now?”
Johnny chuckles, his face turning red.
“I’m sorry baby, I had a really good dream actually.”
“Oh?” You raise an eyebrow.
“Yeah..It’ll go away, I just have to...”
“Shhh..who said I want it to go away?” you put a finger over his lips then lower yourself under the blanket.
You pull his boxers down and allow his aching length to spring free.
“You don’t have to, baby..” he struggles to get out, because the truth is that he hopes you do.
“Mmm...but I really want to..” you lock eyes with him and lick the pre cum from his tip.
You place kitten licks along his cock, licking across his bulging veins before kissing his swollen and red tip.
Johnny curses under his breath as he watches you swallow half of him while under the blanket.
You pull off of him completely and lick your lips. “I forgot how big you are..”
He runs his fingers through your scalp.
“It was just last week that I fucked you so hard you couldn’t walk the next day, how could you forget?”
“Hmmm I don’t remember, I think I need a refresher.” You winked then lowered yourself onto him again, this time using both hands to twist around the base of of his cock while you sucked whatever you could fit into your mouth.
You moan onto him, flicking your tongue all over him and moving your hands up and down.
“Fuck..” he lets out in a low groan.
You swirl your tongue around his tip then continue to move it up and down his shaft.
“Mmmm..Johnny..I’m so wet for you.” You look into his eyes as you lick up and down.
“Come on, baby, I can’t take any more teasing.” His grip on your hair tightens slightly.
You swallow him whole and hum again to send vibrations through his sensitive manhood.
He thrusts upwards into your throat, making gag unexpectedly.
You continue to choke on him and listen as his groans grow louder.
“Ahh..That’s it, baby girl, I’m close.”
Tears escape your eyes and you whimper as he thrusts harder.
“Cum for me, Johnny.” You stroke his dick faster and flatten your tongue on the head.
Spurts of milky strings decorate your neck and chin as Johnny moans beautifully.
Johnny bites his bottom lip as he watches your fucked out face over him.
“Come here..” he whispers. You climb over him while wiping his cum off.
“Ride my face.”
“What?” Your eyes grow.”
“I want to taste you..” he says with low eyes.
“Are you sure?”
He lowers himself and waits for you to get on top.
You’re in nothing but a g string and his t shirt, but you look gorgeous to him.
Your knees dig into the pillow, you hover over his face and the feeling is strange. You can feel his warm breath fan your entrance.
You swallow hard as he uses two fingers to push the thin fabric of your g string to the side.
He licks over your folds as you shiver from the sudden contact.
“It’s not like I haven’t tasted you before, sweetheart...don’t be nervous, just move.”
He grabs both knees and pries them further apart so you’re right on his pillowy lips.
He flattens his tongue against you, listening to you make the most wonderful whimpers he’s ever heard.
On instinct, you move forward and backward against his tongue, feeling his lips kiss your core as if it’s your lips.
His tongue feels inside of you as he uses two fingers to explore your pussy.
He presses his finger tips onto that spot while he groans. The vibrations make you jump from stimulation, but his tongue doesn’t stop. He pushes it against your clit with more force, gaining a loud moan from you.
He squeezes your thigh and shakes his head from side to side, as if to tell you you’re naughty for making such loud noises.
But the movement only adds to your stimulation.
You move faster now, placing your hands onto your breasts. You massage them and play with your nipples as Johnny draws circles onto your clit.
“Johnny!” You cry out as the intense feeling takes you over.
He pinches your thigh again, looking up at you and watching you play with your breasts under his large t shirt.
You bite your lips in an effort to stay quiet, but you can’t help but cry out as you climax on his face. “Oh...my god!”
Johnny watches your body shake above him in the dim lighting of the room, then holds you by the waist and lays you down beside him.
He wipes his face. “I love you, sweetheart, you’re so beautiful.”
“I love you too, that was amazing.” You breathe heavily.
He smirks then turns you over on your side, gently massaging your warm skin in the process.
He kneels and then straddles your leg while curling your other leg around his side.
He holds his hard cock in his hand, brushing the tip against your dripping folds.
You flinch slightly when you feel it against your quivering pussy.
Johnny licks his lips and pushes into you slowly, giving you time to adjust.
“Fuck..” you exhale. “Keep going.”
He pushes into while looking into your eyes.
His intense eye contact and the way he clenches his jaw makes you even wetter than you were before.
You wince and he stops moving.
“Are you okay?” He asks sweetly.
“Yeah..it’s okay.”
He thrusts into you, watching as you grip the sheets beside you and whine.
This position always allowed him to deeper while still maintaining eye contact with you.
Your clit was perfectly stimulated and he could watch every cry escape your mouth as well as your breasts.
But here you were in his t shirt looking more perfect than you’ve ever looked as you took all of him in.
“Fuck it’s so deep inside you..” his tongue darts across his bottom lip.
He thrusts harder the pulls out completely.
“Faster..please.” You beg him.
“Of course. Anything for you.”
And with that, Johnny drills his cock into your pussy, stretching it out to become the perfect fit for him.
“Johnny!” You cry out while watching his abs flex and his beautiful body glisten in sweat above you.
He moves fast and places a hand around your neck, knowing that you preferred being quieted this way.
He squeezes your throat and starts to choke you.
Your body moves up and down on the plush bed, you can’t think straight as he destroys you in the middle of the night.
He throws your leg up on his shoulder, his cock his your g spot repeatedly and you silently go insane. His thrusts are fast, but his sturdy length slides in and out of you easily, never failing to press against your extremely sensitive areas.
“Good girl...take it just like that.”
His tone is low and husky, he continues to choke you while looking into your eyes deeply.
And with a few more thrusts, you come undone just as he does, your body shaking once again.
Your eyes roll in the back of your head as Johnny kisses you through it.
It feels like minutes pass by while you experience your most intense orgasm.
He pulls out of you after he comes down. He then goes to the bathroom and grabs a towel to wipe you up with.
“Johnny..” you close your eyes as you feel sleep overtake your body.
He pulls you into his arms and hugs you. “Let’s go back to sleep, sweetheart, I’m right here.”

So! What about the god ok switch-a-roo? The pillarmen are now human and their s/os are pillarmen!
I interpreted this request as body swapping (similar to what we see in a much later part of JoJo) and I hope this is what you meant, my dear Anon! 🙏❤🥰
If not and you meant for me to write this in another way, I am SO sorry I misinterpreted the request and I sincerely hope you still enjoy this nonetheless! 😅😇
Body swapping with the Pillarmen! 😱 🔁
(Under the cut for length!)
Kars:
• Ending up in your body will piss Kars off more than anything really.
• Don't get him wrong, he loves you with all his heart; it's just that he's a man who is rather comfortable in his superiority and status over your race.
• He had worked VERY hard to get himself where he wanted to be afterall...
• Suddenly being reduced to a mere Human is enough to make his (er... your) stomach turn.
• Kars' new "limitations" in your body however didn't stop him from working out how this happened and, more importantly, how to UNDO it ASAP.
• When you happen to come to in Kars' body, the feeling is unsettling and strange to say the least.
• Piloting not only a Pillarmans body but Ultimate lifeform's as well will take you some getting used to for sure.
• For one thing, you'll come to find his hair gets in the way of EVERYTHING.
• If the wind blows or if you happen to turn sharply it's suddenly in your (well... his, but you get the idea) mouth or sticking in your eyes or just plain in your face!
• You can't understand how he stands it at all!
• There's no time for you to ask him to teach you how to wrap it up like he does either to remedy the issue so you have to grin and bear it.
• On the other hand, even the slightest jump in your emotions makes his arm blades spring forth!
• You almost ended up accidentally stabbing Kars (while he was in your body) as a result of getting worked up over the whole matter.
• Kars could only watch you floundering about in his body, frowning and shaking your human head as he told you repeatedly to keep calm and they'll stay put.
• As if you could keep level-headed at all in this situation as it was.
• On the upside ot things however... you learn some interesting things about Kars.
• "...Wait." you paused, peering down at the muscular legs beneath you; your eyes bore into Kars' boots with a critical gaze. There was something cushy sitting just below the heel on the inside.
• "Do you... have cloth wedged into your boots?" A sangria eyebrow raised, ruby eyes falling onto Kars.
• You watched as the features of your own face shifted dramatically, mouth falling open, scandalized. "I--" he began, but your voice fell short as he couldn't find anything to say in defense.
• "Do you do this to make yourself look taller?" A wheeze rose up in the Pillarman's chest, rich barking laughter ringing out as you doubled over in laughter.
• You suddenly came to the realization that you had never once seen Kars without his boots off, the pumps at the very bottom of the boots gave him a little boost as it was but on the inside it quite literally felt like you were wearing a pair of high heels.
• You were starting to wonder just how tall Kars really was. Hell, you were starting to wonder if he even passed Santana in height without these boots on!
• Your laughter fell short as a familiar, much smaller, hand reached up and grabbed your new body by the scarf. You were hauled down to meet the burning and intense gaze of your own eyes, Kars snarling right up into his own face.
• Jeeze, had your face always looked that red when you got angry before?
• "If you speak of this to ANYONE, I will spill each and every one of your own secrets to the others," he growled lowly, giving your voice an uncharacteristically harsh and grating tone. "Am I clear?"
• It took all you had inside not to call him "shortie" once things were finally back to the way they were and you both settled back into your own bodies.
• Despite your curiosity, your question on his exact height would never get answered.
• Kars knew how to put those arm blades to use better than you of course...
Esidisi:
• Oh boy... you have to be VERY careful piloting this one.
• And I mean the absolute definition of careful!
• When your consciousness ends up transfered into Esidisi's body, its no surprise that you feel very warm and fuzzy on the inside.
• It's almost a feeling akin to when you sit just a little too long in a bath that's a little too hot.
• Strangely, it was actually kind of a comforting feeling amongst this whole ordeal.
• However, if you're not careful with your emotions (warm and fuzzy feeling or not) than you might just accidentally end up burning a hole right through the Earth!
• Or worse... end up spraying scalding hot blood and flaying fleshy veins dripping with the stuff in all directions.
• Your core temperature has to constantly be monitored or you'll pay the price.
• It seems like even if you unfocus for one singular second, the Pillarman's entire body starts to smolder like a cake burning in an oven!
• Esidisi, on the other hand, is actually quite enjoying being in your body.
• He's having a much better time than you are for sure. In fact, he's laughing like this is nothing more than a game to him!
• You'll have to keep your eyes on him because he can't keep his (or rather, your) hands off your body.
• "Esidisi!" You barked, the Pillarman's voice was like the clap of thunder as it raised in octave; clearing the air with its power and inevitably startling you (again) even though you were the one wielding it. "Get your hands out of there, right now!"
• Your command was met with laughter, you watched as a wide grin stretched across your own face as Esidisi pried your hands off of your behind (for the 3rd time) and tucked them neatly into your pockets as he continued to giggle to himself.
• "I wasn't doing anything~" he purred, making your voice sound uncannily like a bad child playing innocent, acting wasn't just caught squeezing your cake.
• He was being to curious for his own good.
• That and the fact that he's taking enjoyment out of little ordinary Human things while piloting your body
• Things like feeling actual pain when skin is pinched or when hair is pulled seemed like it could entertain him for hours on end.
• If you don't keep a close eye on him and his shenanigans, you might just end up getting your body back all banged and bruised up if he goes too far with his fun.
• Fair enough, as he might just get his back half-burned into the ground or covered in blood...
Wamuu:
• Wamuu straight up does NOT have a good time dealing with suddenly being Human.
• The fact that it's your body he's in doesn't help that any either.
• 12/10 would NOT do again. 0 STARS!
• Wamuu, always a composed and calculating Warrior and tactician, was now in full panic mode.
• All his life he carried himself with pride, building his little ego off all his strengths and victories because of his status and his incredible unmatchable power.
• Now, with all of that ripped away from him, the Warrior felt too vulnerable and naked for his liking in this Human form.
• "Ow! OW!!!" Wamuu cried, eyes wide as your hands flew to your back. "Why does it hurt there? Do you always have pain like this?" Came the question, it was more than strange (and a little unsettling) to hear your own voice asking you that so desperately.
• "You get used to it." You replied, the deepness of the Pillarman's voice sending deep vibrations through the hardened chest as you spoke.
• "Why-- Why does this body feel so sluggish? I feel so inexplicably weary..." "I know. You get used to that too." "WHY IS EVERYTHING SORE?! WHY IS EVERYTHING CREAKING?!" "It's fine. That's normal."
• On the other hand, your mind suddenly being swapped into Wamuu's body isn't quite as bad as being in the others but... there are still some things to get used to.
• For one thing, it was hard to get used to simply walking around in it.
• Wamuu was so immensely big, muscular and heavy that you felt as if you were shaking the Earth with each step, causing you to lumber and stumble around with no grace to speak of.
• For another, a wirlwind just seemed to follow you wherever you went. It was honestly harder to control than it looked!
• When you wanted it to move one way, it went another. Wind blew up, wind blew down.
• You found yourself standing around, massive hands flying to the loincloth in an attempt to keep it from flinging up and showing too much.
• You wanted to spare least a shred of Wamuu's lost dignity while he wasn't piloting his own body after all.
• His horn is an entirely different matter.
• At one point the breeze blew too strong and the Pillarmen's signature headpiece suddenly flew right off his head and then... out sprang the horn.
• It shot 18 feet into the air, skewering two trees and drilling right through them like an overcharged power drill; a terrifying whir filling the air as chunks of wood flayed in every direction.
• The entire time you screamed in terror (you had no idea Wamuu's voice could go so high until that moment), slicing through an entire plot of trees as Wamuu yelled for you to put it away before it went for something breathing... like your own body that he was currently inhabiting.
• In the end, the relief you both feel to be back in your own bodies once the entire mess is fixed is immeasurable.
• You also both agree to never speak of the experience again for as long as you live.
Santana:
• Much like Kars, Santana is more unimpressed about the whole thing rather than upset or worried.
• Apart from you of course, Santana just barely tolerated Humans (or Primitives as he liked to call them) as it was.
• He often spoke about how fragile and flawed your kind was, honestly the defenselessness of a Human was laughable in his eyes.
• Therefore, he absolutely does NOT like suddenly being reduced to one, even if it is your body.
• The entire time he's practically pouting, the very definition of apathetic, grumbling to himself and following close behind as you tried to chase down the person responsible for the swap.
• "This form is... limiting." Came the low growl, each word sounding so very unlike you despite the fact it was your voice he was using. Santana practically spat as he kept talking, "Flawed. Primal. Defenseless."
• You were handling things admittedly better than Santana but it was still more than overwhelming.
• For one thing, you'll come to find that Santana's senses are extremely heightened.
• You never realized how very unbelieveably strong a sense of smell, taste and hearing could be until now.
• You could smell animals that had passed through the area nearly a fortnight ago just by putting your nose to the air. You could hear the thumping of your own heart from where it sat back in your own chest as Santana followed close at your heels.
• For another thing... Santana's body felt... odd.
• It was a strange and indescribable feeling; it was best put as you felt like a substance that constantly balanced between solid and liquid.
• How on Earth could he stand being a living mass of puddy and sharp deadly bones all the time?!
• As Santana kept grumbling about how very imperfect his new form was, your only hope was to give him that huge bag of gummy bears you had been saving in your bag for later to snack on.
• It would give you a moment of silence to think straight. However, if Santana was himself that would've been a good idea but in this case... not so much.
• "What's wrong?" You questioned, the Pillarman's gravely voice holding a different tone than you were used to as you used it, studying him.
• Santana had suddenly stopped following and was now slumped over, clutching at your stomach. A low whine surfaced, almost a sob, as he spoke through clenched teeth.
• "Do.... not.... feel..... good." Came the whimper. You came rushing to his side, your temorary body dwarfing your real one as you pulled Santana close to see if he had somehow gotten hurt.
• "What--" the question fell short as you spied the now very empty bag of gummy bears laying nearby.
• That bag had been huge, filled to the brim with bright and colourful gushy candy... and Santana had eaten ALL of them.
• It was that day that Santana found out that a Humans biggest flaw was that too much sugar made them sick.
• Good luck with enjoying getting your body back when the time comes as you now suspected you would spend your time kneeled over a bucket with a hot water bottle instead of celebrating...

Ignorant | Steve Rogers
Wow I was really going through it with this one, huh? I think I listened to Bring Me To Life by Evanescence for the entire two hours it took to write this. I never write this fast-- I'm really going through it LOL! I hope you enjoy lovelies! It's the first Steve fic for Dinner at DIzzy's!
Appetizers (Tags): Angst
Entres (Pairing): Nomad!Steve Rogers x F!Reader (Third Person)
Sides (Prompts): 3: “Apparently I’m volatile, self-obsessed, and don’t play well with others.”
Notes: This has a ton of swearing, Requested by Anon
Word Count: 1.8k
Dinner at Dizzy’s Master List
“Just because you’re the leader here doesn’t mean you have the right to be an asshole, Steve!” Y/n hisses at the man, fists balled at her side.
She’s not going to swing. She would never swing on him— at least she doesn’t think she would— but right now she’s so damn close. All day he’s been pushing her around, yelling at her for the slightest trip ups. Yelling at all of them. She understands that being fugitives isn’t easy but holy shit can the man chill out for five minutes? She fell asleep in the backseat of the car for five fucking minutes! Certainly that doesn’t warrant the hour tongue lashing she just got. It does, however, warrant her retaliation.
He takes a step towards her, face twisted in a snarl unlike anything she’s ever seen before. “Watch your language!”
She doesn’t back down— she’s not scared of him. “Don’t fucking yell at me then! Stop being a dick!”
She doesn’t feel bad for the insult or the way he flinches, his eyes darkening immensely. She had tried to politely ask him for space thirty minutes ago and he didn’t give her any. If he gets to blow off steam or whatever the fuck he’s doing than so will she.
“I’ll stop being a dick when you get some common sense!”
Steve’s raising his own voice now, getting right in her face, and she only pushes forward, her cheeks filling with heat and her stomach clenching painfully. The audacity of this man is incredible. His usual light eyes are a deep navy color now, almost black from his blown pupils. He looks crazy— she doesn’t doubt that she does as well. She would bet money that she looks insane.
“I fell asleep for five fucking minutes and Sam was right fucking next to me! What the fuck is your problem?” She’s doing it on purpose now— if he doesn’t want her to swear then that’s all she’s going to do.
Maybe it’s the triple F-bomb that has the sound of feet pounding against concrete echoing through their shoddy apartment. Maybe it’s just the yelling in general. Either way it’s a good thing that Natsaha and Sam come sprinting in from the other room of the two room complex because if they hadn’t then she’s sure her fist would be cracking against the jaw of Captain Douchebag right now.
“Woah, woah, woah— what the hell’s going on in here?” Sam is quick to get in the middle of them, pushing the super soldier to one end of the room while Nat yanks on y/n’s hoodie. “We could hear you idiots from the stairwell.”
Y/n struggles against Nat for a moment, vision tinted red at the edges. From across the room Steve glares at her, seething. She can practically feel the hatred pouring off of him. It stings at her chest, biting into her veins. He would have kept yelling at her if they hadn’t stopped him, she just knows it. She wishes he would so she could scream back— her stomach and muscles are still tight and she’s aching to lay into him some more. She barely even started and now she feels like she’s about to bubble over.
“Seriously—” Nat tugs again and y/n stops fighting, opting instead to glower at the blonde from across the room— “What’s gotten into you two? You’re supposed to be the responsible ones!”
Steve tears his arm from Sam’s hold but doesn’t clear the space between them. “Why don’t you ask y/n—” he tilts his head, sneering again— “What was it you said ten minutes ago? Oh yeah— apparently I’m volatile, self-obsessed, and don’t play well with others.”
Why that little fucking— “Don’t put fucking words in my mouth!”
She storms past Natasha, dodging her arm as it flies out— you’re not the only trained markswoman here Nat. Steve does the same, bowling past Sam easily to meet her in the middle of the room.
“Why not? It’s what you meant right?” He’s in her face again, breath hot on her face, and she only retaliates by fuming right back.
She feels like a dragon facing down her enemy— she’s ready to burn the entire building down if it means lowering him a peg or five.
“Actually it wasn’t but now it is you narcissistic dick.”
She can feel Natasha start to pull on her hoodie again but she’s not done— not now. Not when she’s just gotten started.
“You just can’t handle hearing the truth y/n— you can’t handle it when I tell you what you did was wrong. That you could have gotten us fucking killed with your ignorance—”
Her veins flood with fire, her lips curling into a painful scowl. In that moment everything turns slow, her heartbeat a dull thump, thump, thump in her ears, drowning out the rest of his sentence. The only thing that gives away that he’s still speaking is his mouth moving, his teeth bared and ready to be knocked out.
Oh so she’s ignorant now is she? Yeah well fuck you Rogers!
This time the only thing that stops her fist from slamming into Steve’s jaw is Sam catching it mid air, her knuckles slapping off his palm and bringing the sounds in the room rushing back to her at full force. She stumbles back with the impact but the soldier catches her, steadying her on her feet with a worried look in his soft brown eyes. It feels like she’s been underwater for days, her ears popping painfully as she gasps for breath.
“—s enough Steve!” When y/n blinks Nat is shoving her palm against the super soldier’s chest. “You need to back the hell off!”
She doesn’t realize until her eyelashes stick to her cheeks that they’re wet. That she’s crying. The sobs catch up to her when it registers, wracking through her with a force strong enough to have her whole body shaking. Sam is the first to notice, reaching out for her but she backs away, shaking her head. The room falls silent, three pairs of eyes now trained on her but she’s only looking at one pair of wide blue ones. Steve’s chest is heaving up and down, a cross between a feral and a confused look slathered across his features.
The look ignites the last of the dying spark inside her, her hand landing against her chest, wrapping around the dog tags hanging off her neck and yanking until she hears a snap. She waits for the chain to pool in her hands before she whips the metal across the room, hitting him square in the chest with a roar that’s more animal than human tearing from her throat— you wanted flames and now you’re going to get them.
“I’m ignorant? Me? Did you ever stop to ask yourself why the fuck I fell asleep today?” She slips her hands into her hair, tugging so hard on the roots that her scalp feels like it’s burning. “How about because last night you came back from scouting three hours late and looking like you got mauled by a fucking bear? And I asked you what happened and you wouldn't tell me a goddamn thing! You— Mister fucking super serum whatever the fuck! You just went to bed and I spent the rest of the night listening to you gasp for air! Not knowing if the shit was even working or if I was going to wake up to you gone! I—”
Her voice cracks and she curses, scraping her wrist across her face to wipe away some of the hot tears pooling down her cheeks. They feel like trails of lava melting her skin as they rush over her jaw and drip onto the floor. Steve’s face has morphed completely during the span of her rant, his mouth falling open, lips no longer busted open like they had been last night but still horrifying to look at right now. She knows he wants to say something— maybe he even wants to apologize— but there’s no fucking way she’s letting him. She’s not finished yet.
“I spent all night wondering if I was going to lose you! That I would wake up and have nothing! You’re my everything and I thought you were going to die and you wouldn’t tell me anything. So yeah, I guess I’m ignorant! Fuck you too.”
Her throat is raw by the time she’s done spitting the words at him, her head fuzzy from a lack of oxygen and her waning rage. It’s giving way too quickly to sadness— to the agonizing kind of heartbreak that has all her organs seemingly shutting down. Her face is sticky and itchy and she needs to get away from him right now.
She turns to meet the stunned faces of Sam and Nat, swallowing hard and wincing at the way her esophagus stings. She’s not going to have a voice at all tomorrow— or for the next week at this rate. Sam’s eyes look like they’re going to pop out of his head from how wide they are, his mouth open but— like Steve— no words are coming out. She flicks her eyes to Nat who, thankfully, springs into action, nodding her head to the door, the question clear in her eyes— want to get the fuck out of here? Y/n doesn’t answer, she just starts walking.
It’s in that moment that Steve snaps out of his stupor, racing to catch her at the door, warm hand curling gently around her wrist. She doesn’t even give herself a second to enjoy it— to fall into his touch and forget the agony in her chest— before she’s ripping her arm away from him, cradling it against her chest and backing away from him.
“Baby I—” His face is tight, his light brows creasing the middle of his forehead.
She can see it— the regret. It carves across his face, tugging his lips into a frown and making his eyes glass over. Her chest squeezes at the sight, her own eyes coating with a fresh sheen of tears. She wants to wrap her arms around him— to tell him that she forgives him and that she loves him and that she’s scared— but he did this not her and before she knows it she’s taking another step back, shoulder bumping into Nat’s as she shakes her head.
“I’m sleeping with Nat tonight. I’ll talk to you in the morning. Night, Steve.”
Steve’s face falls, the first of his tears pooling down his now angelic face, and as she hesitates. Maybe she should— she feels a tug on her hand, glancing down to where Natasha’s slender fingers wrap around her forearm. She doesn’t have the strength to fight her comrade as she pulls her past the door frame.
As the super soldier falls from her line of sight all she can hear is Sam’s exhausted voice—
“Let her go, man.”
—and she breaks.

46. “I’m in love…shit” with Loki. If you are still wanting requests. No pressure your stuff is amazing!
46) I'm In Love....Shit
I think I'm in Love
Summary: you and Loki spend some time together, later while talking to Thor in their mothers garden Loki comes to realize that he is absolutly in love with you.
Announcement: I havent been very with it these past few days and I feel like I have been slacking in a way. I have been so busy that by the time I finally get home and I am able to relax a pass out because I am so tired. I am trying to get better at this though and I am trykng ro work out a schedule for Fire and Ice maybe set a day of the week for that and just do requests durimg the rest of the week. I love you all and thank you so much for the love that you guys give me!!! 💚💚💚💚
~~~~~
"Darling! It was absolutly hilarious." Loki laughted looking down at you.
"It was not and you know that very well Loki!" You said reaching up pulling a twig from your hair. You and Loki had decided to go out and ride since it was a pretty spring day and there was nothing else to do.
"Come here and let me help you." He pulled you to a stop so that he could help pull leaves and twigs from your hair. "You should have held on tighter." He smiled pulling the last of it from yojr hair.
"You should mot have slapped her tonmake her run off, Mr. Mischief." You said playfully smacking him on the arm.
"Watch yourself my dove." He warned stalking over to you.
"Oh what are you going to do about it Mr. Trickster?" You laughed pulling up you dress so you could take a few steps back. "This whole prowling thing doesnt intimidate me like it does your other fair maidens." You laughed loudly. He stopped and stared at you.
"My Lady y/n for you to think there are other besides you I would rather spend my time with." He placed a hand on his heart. "Why, you are absolutly right." He took off after you while you squealed with delight and ran away.
You ran from him up one of the paths that lead between the orchard and the castle walls. There were hidding spots all through there were the two of you use to hid when you were younger, the tall bushes being the perfect hidding spot to keep out of view from him. As you two chased and played you didnt realize there were two others observing.
Thor and Frigga warches from the balcony of her quarters as the sounds of screaming and laughing rose to them.
"How long do you think it will take for them to realize how in love they truly are?" Thor turned to his mother.
"Son, they have been doing this same song and dance now since before they were teenagers. Sometimes it takes a while for somethingblike that to become obvious." She answered leaning onto the rail.
"It is very obvious to others." Thor was happy that Loki had you but he knew that his brother wanted more he could tell by the way his eyes would light up when you were around.
"Though it is obvious to us it may not be as obvious to them. They are simply best friends that spend every hour of every day together." She sighed. She had taken you in and had let you start training with the other ladies working on how to be a princess.
"I dont understand allmother why I should start these. I am not fit to be a princess." You stated after your first class.
"But one day you will be. You may even rule over the kingdom." She said with a knowing smile.
"Thor, call for your brother please, it is time to start preparing for the banquet tonight." She placed her hand on his shoulder and gave a final look down to the garden where you and Loki where laughing loudly after he had caught you.
"Yes mother." Thor walked off.
"Loki! Mother wanted to let you know its time to start gettkng ready for tonight." Thor yelled through the garden trying to find the two of you.
"Ah, Lady Y/N, will You be joining the festivities tonight?" Thor bowed to you.
"Yes, I do hope you save a dance for me, will you Thor?" I asked smiling up at the blonde prince.
"As long as Loki doesn't stab me for it, I would love nothing more Lady Y/n." He took your hand and kissed the top of it.
"I shall see you both later." You curtsied and walked away.
"Brother," Thor smiled placing a hand on his brothers shoulder. "Does my eyes deceive me or could you possibly have a crush on Lady y/n?"
Loki moaned looking at Thor. "For the thousandth time, I do not have a crush on her. She is my best friend, someone I can talk to. Vent to when everything in the castle is just to much."
"Then I guess it would not bother you to bad to know that Fandral has asked if she would be attending tonight." This caused Loki to stumble slightly. "Said that if she wasnt escourted by anyone he could possibly have a chance to 'get to know her tonight'."
"Y/n wouldnt give that oaf the time of day much less attend anything with him. She has more class than that i dare say." Loki rolled his eyes.
"Well he hasnt asked her yet. Saod he figured he would wait till tonight and just meet her there. Said he couldnt wait to see just how pretty she looked." Thor gave Loki a sode ways glance and smirked.
"She can do so much better than him. She has better taste in book, though I doubt that he can even read," he tutted, "more grace, she is a wonderful listener, and he cant even dance that well." Loki stopped in front of his chamber doors.
"Loki, is that jealousy that i am sensing from you?" Thor raised an eye brow.
"By Norns, no Thor. It is not. I simply worry that she will be stuck with him the rest of the night and not be able to get away from him." He opened his door and walked inside his room. His heart was pounding, he did feel jealous. He was jealous that the time he would normally be spending with you would be spent with someone else. The only smart thing for him to do was to get ready and meet you.at your quarters so that he could escort you there and keep Fandral away from you. Of course time wouldnt work in his favor that night.
When you had arrived at your chambers you noticed a box with a note on top of it with Thors messy handwriting.
Lady y/n, I decided to take the liberty and pick out a simple dress for you for tonight. Though I realize that you must already have one but when I had seen this one I knew that i had to get it for you. I know the one you chose must be just as beautiful as you are i would greatfully appreciate it if youncould wear this one.
You rolled your eyes at thw thought of Thor picking out a dress for you, red and gold, he is by no means quarting you butnhe would do that type of thing just to get under Loki s skin.
When you opened the box the first thing you noticed was a beautiful golden chain that you assumed would go around your head, with an emerald that would sit lightly between your eyes. You removed more of the paper and noticed the dark green hues from the dress, when you pulled it from the box you noticed that the skirt hit midthight and the sleeves had cuts in them the material hanging from your shoulders to the ground. Next to the box was yet another note feom Thor.
Just go with it and lets see how you like it, the matching shoes are shoved under your bed. Dont worry thank me later by dancing with me.
You could see his face in your mind, picture him winking at you. You would surly kill him for this, or at least step on his feet.
After you finished pulling your hair half up and half down with a few braids falling from the side and finished your makeup you took a deep breath and stepped out of the door. You didnt understand why you were nervous but you were, its wasnt like you had never wore green before but this time it was different, this time there was nothing but green. It looked as if you were trying to say something.
You had always liked Loki, you has been friends since you were kids. Loki was your best friend, he was kind, caring, giving, compassionate in things that he truly cared about. You could talk to him about anything and he would listen, what you loved more than anything isnthat when he was with you all of his guards were down, you were the only one that got to see that side of him. You knew in your head though that he would see it as a compliment from his best friend as he sanced the night away with numerous other girls vying for his attention.
"You look....lovely?" Fendrel glanced at you as you walked into the dinning hall. "Might I be lucky to have a dance before you are snagged away by one of the princes?"
"Of course you may." You smiled holding your hand out to him. "You have always been a good lead Fandrel."
He took you spinning you onto the dance floor were some couples parted to make room for the two of you. He placed his hand on your lower back and pulled you closer to him. "You are quite a beautiful woman Lady Y/n, any man is lucky to be able to spin you around the floor." You blushed looking away from him, as you scaned the room you noticed Thor and Loki quietly talking to themselves. Loki looked handsome in his royal outfit, black and gold elegantly intertwining woth each other causing the emerald green to pop and to being ojt his eyes.
"Honestly brother, if she had planned on coming with him why did she have to wear my color? She knows by now what that stated." Loki rolled his eyes looking back to you and Fandral twirling around the dance floor.
"Maybe she didnt think much about it. You do realize that it is simply a color? There are many others here wearing it also." Thor said grabbing two glasses of wine and handing one to Loki.
"You truly are an idiot if you that she just so happened to pick out something like that, that just so happened to be my color. She wanted to make a statement." He handed his glass back to Thor and walked down the few steps leading to where you were dancing not noticing the small smile on Thors face.
"You know you are just as mischievous as your brother." Frigga came to stand beside him causing him to jump.
"Mother, I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Of course you dont son, just be careful, you could possibly be playong with fire on this one. Once they find out it was you setting this all up there no telling what they might do." Thors face dropped at the thought of the two of you teaming up aginst him.
Hate to Date Ch.7 | Brittana
A/N - And just like that, Lockdown 6.0 is upon us LOL. Good news, more time to write. Bad news, boredom looms. Anyway, thank you to those who have left lovely reviews and/or have gifted me with a coffee through ko-fi. I hope you all know that those emails are some of the first I read when I wake up in the morning - instant happiness! 🥰
Available on ff.net (x) ao3 (x) & under the cut!
Being ambushed by parents ends up turning into a trend for Santana when the following weekend Maribel decides to make a spontaneous trip to New York. Apparently there’s some banquet dinner Eddie is attending which Maribel’s accompanying him to.
The invite was extended to Santana as well, but those dinners are always super boring so she blew it off with an excuse about spending time with Brittany instead since their schedules have been so busy.
What she didn’t expect is for Maribel to make an unexpected pit stop at hers and Puck’s place beforehand, hoping to at least say hi to the happy couple.
Problem is – half of said couple isn’t here.
“Mami, we’re just really busy with this assignment,” Santana tries – hoping that it would be enough to deter her mom for awhile considering Brittany isn’t around. “It’s really getting down to the wire, can’t we see you tomorrow?”
“Ay Santana, I’m already on the way,” Maribel replies in a huff. “It’s only a quick visit and we’ll be on our way.”
“Can’t you just like…skip it and continue on your way?”
“I haven’t seen you since New Year’s and I came all this way to see you – “
“You’re not even here for me, you’re here for Eddie.”
Suddenly there’s a pause and Santana wonders if that little comment just got her into some hot water.
“Why don’t you want to see your mother?” Maribel asks instead. “Are you hiding something from me? You and Puck aren’t up to something again, are you? Roping in Brittany?”
Santana’s eyes go big and it feels like she’s just swallowed a handful of sand. Her heart rate’s picking up and she’s struggling to come up with an answer. She feels like she’s got a hot spotlight on her; thank God her mom can’t actually see her right now!
“We’re not,” Santana finally says. “Like I said, Brittany and I are just a little busy with this assignment…but I guess we can take a break for you.”
“That’s my girl,” Maribel praises. “We’ll be around in about twenty minutes.”
Santana gulps, “Great. See you then.”
Once she hangs up, she grabs the nearest pillow and yells into it. The muffled screams have Puck running out of his room so fast that he clips the doorframe with his shoulder. A loud thud echoes throughout Santana’s room as Puck stumbles and looks around frantically.
“What? What’s wrong?” He asks.
“We’ve got a Code Red,” Santana tells him.
His eyes drift down to her lap then back up as he starts to grimace, “Oh. Do you like…need things?”
Santana scrunches her brow but then she realizes what he’s talking about.
“No, not that Code Red,” She explains. “Mom’s on her way. I need to get Brittany over here ASAP!”
“Oh shit!” Puck curses and takes off to the living to start tidying.
The last time Maribel came around for a surprise visit, she basically tore Puck a new one. Long story short, his version of clean isn’t the same as Maribel’s and they spent an entire afternoon together going through the various cleaning products that should be used around the house and what they should be used for.
Meanwhile, Santana rushes to make the call. She just hopes that Brittany won’t give her a hard time for this, hopefully she answers the damn phone!
“Hi?” Brittany answers questioningly.
“Hey,” Santana replies.
“Did you butt dial me or something?”
“What? No.”
“You just – you never call me.”
“Yeah well…I don’t have much time to explain, but I need you to come over like right now.”
“Uhh, I’m kind of in the middle of something.“
“Brittany, please,” Santana begs. “My mom’s on her way over and she’s fully expecting you to be here too.”
“Oh! Okay, yeah. Why didn’t you lead with that?”
“Because I’m freaking out, that’s why!”
“Okay, well don’t freak out. It’ll be fine. How much time do I have?”
“Not much.”
“Great. Thanks for the warning.”
Santana rolls her eyes, “Look, it took me by surprise too.”
“Alright well, find your cool. We can’t have her suspecting anything’s up.”
Santana nods, already feeling a little calmer. “Just hurry, okay?”
“I’m on my way now. Don’t worry.”
\\
When Maribel comes knocking on Santana’s door, the brunette loses all cool once again because Brittany’s still nowhere in sight. Santana’s looking at Puck, but he has no idea what to do either. Maybe they can stall until she gets here, but how? Maribel would totally think something’s up if they refuse to let her inside!
“Just let her in?” Puck whispers, “We can say Britt went to pick up our take-out?”
“And further confirm that I don’t fucking cook here? No way.”
“Well, what else can we do?”
“I don’t kn –“
“Santana?” Maribel calls out from the hall after another knock. “Hello?”
Puck’s eyes go wide, “She can hear us.”
“No shit, she knows I’m home.”
“Okay, okay. I’m thinking, fuck! Why am I so stressed out?”
Santana and Puck go back and forth trying to come up with some way to stall, but it’s impossible under the pressure.
“I think we have to let her in,” Santana tells Puck in a grave tone.
Puck looks at her uneasily, “I think so too.”
After checking her phone once more for an update from Brittany – there isn’t one – Santana goes to let Maribel and Eddie in. They’re both dressed to the nines, must be a fancy banquet dinner.
“Hi!” Santana greets, attempting to mask her uneasiness.
She’s quickly embraced in a motherly hug while Puck compliments his coach on his sick suit.
“How are you, mija?” Maribel asks as she cups Santana’s cheek. “You’re looking a little pale.”
“Am I?” Santana feels the nerves rattling within her. Where the hell is Brittany?!
“Yes,” Maribel looks her over. “You’re not getting sick are you?”
Santana swallows dryly, “Just tired.”
“Because exams are coming up,” Puck clarifies.
“That’s right,” Santana nods. “Lots of studying to do if I want to ace them.”
Maribel nods, seemingly pleased by Santana’s work ethic.
“Yeah, plus her and Britt have also been super busy with this assignment they’re doing together,” Puck adds. “It’s a lot.”
“Ah yes,” Maribel looks around. “Where is Brittany?”
Santana clenches her jaw and looks to Puck. There’s a guilty smile on his face as he secretly mouths out a sorry. Still though, she has to think on her feet.
“She’s in the bathroom,” Santana replies. It’s not her best work, but it was the first thing she thought of. Maybe they can work with it?
“Yeah, I think she had a bad salad for lunch,” Puck tries again.
Santana glares at him and mouths a shut up that goes unnoticed by Maribel and Eddie.
“Oh, that’s unfortunate,” Maribel frowns.
“Those salads are always a hit or miss,” Eddie confirms. “I try to stay away from them.”
“Don’t listen to Puck. It’s nothing like that,” Santana assures them. “Anyway, exam prep; super intense, long nights, tedious studying. I’m so ready for it to be over.”
Maribel looks apologetically at her, “Don’t work too hard.”
“That’s not what you taught me,” Santana quips.
“I know,” Maribel smiles. “I hope you’re at least wearing your glasses when you’re meant to. You know what all that reading can do to your eyes.”
“I am…”
“And rest, you still need it,” Maribel insists. “A tired mind won’t retain a thing.”
“That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to tell her.”
The four swivel around to find Brittany coming out of Santana’s bedroom. Her cheeks are a little pink – probably from the run over – but she’s her usual cool and collected self as she saunters over.
Santana’s never felt so relieved to see the girl! Question is though, how the hell did she pull off such an entrance?
“Brittany! Hi,” Maribel greets happily. “Are you feeling okay?”
There’s a glimpse of confusion as Brittany looks to Santana for an explanation.
“Mami, I told you she’s not sick. She was only in the bedroom to finish up a call with her mom,” Santana lies.
“Yeah. That was my bad, Mama Lopez,” Puck speaks up.
“Right,” Brittany quickly catches on. “Just my daily phone call with mom. Sorry about that, we can get carried away.”
“Oh don’t be,” Maribel smiles then glances to Santana. “Where’s my daily phone call?”
Santana fights the eye roll, “I’m clearly not as great as Brittany.”
“Now that’s a first,” Brittany smirks as she curls her arm around Santana. “I think you’re plenty great though.”
Santana finds herself blushing, “Thanks.”
There’s another pleased smile on Maribel’s face as she admires the couple. It’s a look Santana has rarely seen when it comes to her past partners and it makes her chest fill with pride. Even months later, her and Brittany still got it!
“Well, as promised this is only a quick visit,” Maribel tells them. “We really need to get going now, but while I’ve got you here: when are you coming home for a visit?”
Santana and Brittany exchange a look. They weren’t looking to make a visit for another few weeks, at least until after Spring Break. Free time is hard to come by now that they’re getting closer to the end of the semester.
“You know Abuela would like to see you both again,” Maribel adds.
Santana’s brows rise, “Would she now?”
“I think she’s warming up to things,” Maribel says vaguely but Santana gets it. “Wouldn’t hurt to come see her though. You know seeing pictures of you two together on Facebook has become a highlight for her.”
“Told you we’re cute,” Brittany jokes as she hugs Santana to her side.
“I should’ve known, she likes every single one them,” Santana quips.
“She wants to spend time with you,” Maribel explains and looks to Brittany. “She wants to spend time with the both of you.”
Santana quirks a brow at that, “Really? Has something changed?”
Maribel only shrugs. “You’ll have to ask her for yourself.”
Santana and Brittany glance at each other, both suddenly curious about Abuela’s change of heart.
“How about you come down for Spring Break?” Maribel suggests.
“Uhhh,” Santana stammers as she looks to Brittany, “We’re going to have to talk about it first. Brittany might have to – “
“Spring Break is fine with me,” Brittany shrugs.
“I thought you were planning on going home?” Santana lies – trying to get Brittany to catch on. “Spend time with your family?”
The blonde only shakes her head, “Nope. I’d rather stay here with you.”
Santana feels herself deflate; usually Spring Break is her time to finally let loose but she guesses there’s not much else she could get up to since she’s fake dating Brittany. She might as well just use the time to reinforce that she’s capable of being in a long term relationship.
By then, her and Brittany would be together for four months – that’s the longest relationship yet! Surely, that’ll have to mean something to her family.
“Well sure,” Santana sighs in defeat. “I can’t imagine spending my Spring break any other way than by returning to Lima.”
Maribel gives her a gleaming grin, “Perfect.”
\\
Once Maribel and Eddie head off to their banquet, Santana and Brittany collapse together on the couch. Puck hands them both a beer before cracking one open for himself and taking a seat opposite them.
“Way to sell it,” Puck raises his bottle. “Great work! It was cool to see you two in action like that. I can see why everyone eats this shit up. You’re pretty believable.”
“Glad you enjoyed the show,” Santana quips.
“Looks like I came right on time too,” Brittany says.
“Yeah about that,” Santana looks to Brittany. “How the hell did you get into my room?”
“The window?” Brittany shrugs. “I’m surprised it wasn’t locked.
Santana’s eyes go wide, “You climbed through the window?”
“Well yeah, how else would I have gotten in? Through the vent?” Brittany jokes.
“Good thing we’re on the first floor,” Puck chuckles.
Brittany nods and clinks her bottle with his. Meanwhile Santana just stares at the blonde with her jaw slack. Not only did she run over here, she went through the effort of climbing through the window too!
The girl is crazy.
Santana doubts she would’ve gone to the same extent. No way she’d try getting her ass through a window, that’s just too much. But still, she supposes some thanking is in order.
“Well, I appreciate you going through all that,” Santana says bashfully. “I didn’t expect my mom to just pop up like that so…thanks for coming here so quickly.”
There’s a half-smirk on Brittany’s face and Santana anticipates her poking fun at how Santana’s actually thanking her for something, but it doesn’t come. Brittany just continues smiling as she clinks her bottle with Santana’s.
“That’s what fake girlfriends are for,” She tells her.
\\
Over the following days, Santana and Brittany often run into each other at the library. It’s not Santana’s preferred place to study but it’s hard for her to concentrate sometimes with Puck around.
Although Santana and Brittany are in the same place, they often sit separately.
Brittany keeps to her lone table in the study area while Santana sits somewhere in the upper level because she likes the view of the exit. It’s kind of like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, that tunnel being the designated hour she makes herself study.
However, on one particular day all of the tables in the upper level are occupied. Santana finds herself scowling at the randoms before making her way down to the level beneath – where the study area is kept.
Like always, Brittany’s sitting alone near the back and Santana finds herself walking over to her without a second thought. She wasn’t planning on sharing the table with her, just maybe say hi and leave her be, but as Santana approaches the table she finds something unexpected there:
Spanish for Dummies
Intrigued, Santana’s eyes roam the table and find all sorts of similar books on the Spanish language mixed in with Brittany’s actual coursework. Then Santana takes a peek at Brittany’s laptop, trying to figure out what has her so consumed that she’s yet to notice her standing there.
There’s a little green owl going over conjugations – Spanish conjugations – and Santana watches as Brittany jots down notes as she mouths whatever words she hears through her headphones. Santana’s completely dumbfounded and pulls up a chair, the motion finally causes Brittany to jolt and turn.
Blue eyes spark with surprise before the headphones quickly come off. The girl looks like she’s just been caught with her hand in the cookie jar, but Santana can’t help the fascination.
“Santana!” Brittany gasps. “Wh-what are you doing here?”
“It’s the library,” She answers simply. “I’m here to study.”
“Oh, duh. Of cour – “
“Are you teaching yourself Spanish?” Santana interrupts.
Brittany looks from her screen to the books on the table to Santana. She seems a little timid as she minimizes the program on her laptop. Santana wonders if she’s going to attempt to lie, but there’s too much evidence against her. There’s no way she could convince Santana that she’s doing otherwise.
“Yeah,” Brittany admits with a nervous laugh. “I am.”
Santana quirks her brow, “What are you doing that for? Surely not for fun?”
Brittany shrugs, “The shows on Univision are great but I’m tired of reading subtitles.”
“Really?” Santana doesn’t seem convinced. “That’s like…a lot of work. Besides, I thought nerds like to read?”
Brittany gives her an unimpressed look, “Well…I also figured that if I knew a little Spanish then it’ll give Abuela and I something to bond over. I remember your aunts mentioning this one show she likes so I’ve kind of been binging it.”
“You’ve been binging telenovelas?” Santana asks in disbelief.
“Well yeah, the drama is addicting.”
“Oh wow,” Santana sits back. So you’re serious about this?”
“Aren’t you?” Brittany replies.
“Yeah, but this is a new level.”
“Don’t you want to be as convincing as you can be?”
“There’s convincing and then there’s this,” Santana jokes. “Your over-achiever tendencies are showing again.”
“You jealous?” Brittany fires back. “I know how much you love it when your mom compares us.”
“I’m not jealous,” Santana turns up her nose.
Brittany smirks, “Just checking. Afterall, this whole thing was your idea.”
“Technically it was Puck’s.”
“Whatever,” Brittany says. “I’m going to do all that I can to make this work because I’m committed. You continue doing…whatever it is that you do.”
Santana tenses her jaw at the jab. It reminds her of the game they played before– the constant one-upping of each other – and she wonders if they’re still playing it.
She thinks about how she accidentally introduced herself to Brittany’s parents as her girlfriend. She remembers how Brittany now has to keep up this façade with them too thanks to the slip-up. She thinks about who this Artie guy is and why Brittany’s parents were wondering where he went.
But most importantly, she thinks about how underwhelming she is as a girlfriend.
She’s nothing like Brittany; she isn’t kind and sweet and she isn’t someone people take home to meet their parents. Santana’s the girl that helps you get over your ex, she’s the one college girls experiment with, she’s down for one night stands, down for no-strings-attached kind of hook ups – she’s not actual girlfriend material.
And oddly enough, she kind of feels bad that Brittany’s stuck with her for the time being. This fake relationship thing wasn’t meant to go beyond convincing Maribel, but that’s exactly what’s happened now thanks to her big mouth.
“You really don’t have to do this, you know,” Santana says after the guilt starts setting in.
“I want to,” Brittany tells her.
Santana sighs; yet another reason why they’re so different.
“Learning a language just to get Abuela to like you?” Santana explains. “Don’t you think that’s kind of going overboard?”
“Not really. It’s kind of fun.”
“Fun?”
“Well yeah, I’ve always wanted to learn another language,” Brittany replies. “Why not start now? Plus I meant what I said about the subtitles thing. It would be so much easier not having to read.”
Santana chuckles as she shakes her head, “How do you find the time? I’m swamped with studying and assignments and cheer practice. Here you are learning another language for fun.”
“I kind of have a photographic memory.”
Santana rolls her eyes, “Of course you do.”
“I’m joking,” Brittany smirks. “I have a bunch of techniques that help cut down on the amount of time you’re actually studying so you don’t spend all your time doing it. I could…teach you some if you want?”
Santana lifts her chin, “I don’t need a tutor.”
“I didn’t say you did,” Brittany laughs. “Why are you always so quick to be on the defense?”
Santana crosses her arms and looks away, “I’m not.”
“Uh-huh,” Brittany grins. “I’ve got a study session with Puck on Thursday. I think it’s actually going to be at your place. We can not share study tips then if you want?”
Santana lets the offer roll around in her head but she doesn’t want to seem too eager.
“I might be around, depends if practice lets out on time.”
“Okay,” Brittany nods then looks at her laptop screen before glancing back at Santana who has yet to move. “So are you sitting with me now or…?”
“Oh!” Santana jolts to stand up. She gathers her bag from the ground and looks around for an empty table, but they’re all occupied.
“I’m not kicking you out, you know,” Brittany tells her without looking away from the screen. “You can stay if you’d like.”
Santana looks around indecisively. She’d rather study alone, but that doesn’t seem to be an option at the moment. She can’t go home either with Puck around, so she guesses staying with Brittany is the next best thing.
“Okay,” Santana replies. “I’ll stay.”
“I’ll clear some space for you,” Brittany says.
Santana moves to the opposite end of the table while Brittany gathers her things in order for Santana to have more room on the table for hers. They sit silently like that working on their respective things for awhile, getting lost in their work.
Brittany ends up leaving the table for a moment and Santana barely notices until she’s placing a coffee in front of her.
“Oh thanks,” Santana smiles at the unexpected gesture.
Brittany doesn’t say anything, just returns the smile as she sits back down.
Another moment later when Santana gets peckish, she pulls out a bag of trail mix. She barely gives it a second thought when she places it between them so that Brittany can have some too if she wants.
\\
When Thursday comes around, Santana ends up leaving cheer practice on time for once. She’s quick to get out of there so that she can wash up and change out of her uniform before Brittany arrives, but she finds that the blonde is already there by the time she gets home.
“What up, Lopez!” Puck calls out to her as he sits with Brittany at their tiny dining table.
Brittany looks up too, her eyes moving from their work to Santana who lingers by the front door. There’s a small smile that begins to curl her lips and Santana finds herself returning it with her own little grin.
“Hi,” She greets as she kicks of her tennis shoes. It was meant for Puck but it seems that it’s directed at Brittany.
“Hey,” Brittany replies.
“How was practice?” Puck asks, just now lifting his head from the work before him.
“Got bumped up to flyer,” Santana says casually although it’s pretty exciting news. She comes around to the kitchen for a drink, “Erica apparently has brittle bones from what Coach says.”
“No way!” Puck cheers, “That’s so awesome!”
“What’s a flyer?” Brittany asks, looking between the two.
“The girls that do stunts in the air,” Santana answers.
“Oh,” Brittany’s brows rise. “That’s…isn’t that kind of dangerous?”
“You worried about me?” Santana teases as she comes around to sit on the stool next to them. She crosses her legs, her cheer skirt hugging her thighs tightly. “Didn’t you say cheer was boring?”
Puck grins as he looks to Brittany for a rebuttal, but the blonde looks stumped.
Actually, the blonde looks distracted.
When Santana realizes that she’s staring at her legs, it’s like a personal victory for her. It was only a matter of time before the skirt wins!
Puck notices the distraction too and glances between his friends, a knowing smirk starting to form.
“Anyway,” Santana says as she finishes off her glass of water.
The sound of her voice breaks Brittany from her trance, but blue eyes are dark with something Santana’s familiar with but has yet to see on her. It makes her smirk; she’s missed having that kind of power over someone. It’s the sexual magnetism, it never fails her.
“Might hit the shower now,” Santana adds before looking to Brittany. “You going to be here much longer?”
Brittany nods, “Yeah. I only got here a little before you did.”
“Okay,” Santana can’t help the flirtatious tone now that she knows she’s got Brittany wrapped around her finger. The teasing is the most fun she’s had in awhile! “Maybe you can show me some things once you’re done with him?”
Brittany gulps, “Yeah sure.”
Puck notices what Santana’s doing and interrupts, “Uh…what’s happening right now?”
“Can it, Puckerman,” Santana waves off although her smile remains devilish. “What’s the point of having a fake girlfriend if I can’t fake flirt with them too?”
Brittany’s face goes a little red as she finally snaps back to reality.
“You call that flirting?” Brittany jokes.
“Fake flirting.”
Brittany shakes her head as she smirks, “I still don’t understand how you pick up any girls.”
“Judging by the look that’s been on your face since I walked in, I think you do.”
Puck looks back and forth between the two again like he’s watching an intense tennis match.
“How about I order a pizza for later?” He suggests in attempt to break up the bickering before it escalates.
“Sounds good,” Santana says without taking her eyes off Brittany.
“Yeah,” Brittany nods. “Sounds awesome.”
“Cool,” Puck replies and looks to Santana. “Go shower now. You’re distracting everyone.”
“She’s not distracting me,” Brittany said pointedly.
Santana quirks her brow and smirks, “Keep telling yourself that, Britt-Britt.”
She lets her hips sway in that well-practiced way as she leaves the room. She doesn’t have to look to know that Brittany’s yet to stop staring and she struggles to hold back the laughter as she gets ready for a shower.
\\
Despite the teasing game she played earlier, Santana sits in Puck’s place at the tiny dining table across from Brittany with a scowl on her face. This studying thing? She’s had enough of it.
“This is pointless. Education is pointless. I’m gonna become a stripper instead,” Santana huffs.
“You'd probably make so much money!” Puck jokes from his place on the couch.
“Probably? Please,” Santana lifts her chin. “I'd make it rain every night!”
Puck laughs and throws his arm over the back of the couch to look at the pair.
“What do you think, Britt?” Puck presses with a smirk. “Think Santana would make it rain?”
Santana smirks too and looks to Brittany for answer.
“I think…I'm kind of hungry,” Brittany says. “How far away is the pizza?”
Santana’s smirk falls at the way Brittany deflects the question. Since Santana’s return, Brittany’s been a little quieter. Santana figured she’s just stuck in study mode and that she’d loosen up eventually, but she’s still waiting.
“I should probably head over now actually,” Puck realizes after checking his phone.
“Take me with you,” Santana jokes. “I think my brain is turning to mush.”
Brittany sighs, “Don’t be so dramatic.”
“You know that’s a struggle for me.”
“True,” Brittany jokes. “Hey, if we finish this chapter tonight I’ll let you use my pretty pens to take notes?”
"Tempting, but I don't need your pretty pens,” Santana says flatly. She rests back in her chair and stares at the ceiling. “What I need is alcohol and several orgasms. I clearly didn't think this fake dating thing through. I've never been so sexually deprived.”
Puck goes to grab his keys, “And on that note – I’ll be back in a few.”
Meanwhile, Brittany just snickers to herself but she isn’t laughing with Santana and it has the brunette frowning.
“What?” Santana questions as Puck leaves.
Brittany shakes her head, “It must be so hard for you to keep it in your pants for once.”
“You have no idea. Who knew that the last time would be the last time. I sure didn’t!”
Brittany shakes her head again and goes back to her work. It makes Santana feel a little on edge and straightens up in her chair.
“I'm obviously joking,” Santana adds and it makes Brittany look up. “What's it to you if I wasn't though?”
“What are you talking about?” Brittany asks.
“Your interest in my sex life.”
Brittany scoffs and looks back to her work, “I'd hardly call it an interest.”
Santana folds her arms across her chest, “So you're secretly some kind of prude?”
“It's not that.”
“Then what is it?”
Brittany sighs and looks up at her again, “Why are we even talking about this?”
Santana notices the change in her tone and perks up. She abandons her work all together in favor of leaning in.
“Because it's way more interesting?” Santana presses. “I know you're trying to deflect, you might as well just answer. If not, I'll assume the reason it gets your panties all in a twist is because you're secretly jealous.”
“I'm definitely not jealous.”
“So it’s the other option,” Santana says. “You’re a prude.”
“No!” Brittany huffs. She softens when she realizes she raised her voice. There’s a timidness to her when she explains, “I just, I guess I believe in developing the feelings part first before the physical happens.”
Santana softens too but for a different reason. It’s more so confusion than anything else.
"Why?” She asks.
“Because with feelings it's better,” Brittany says simply.
“Are you kidding?” Santana quips. “It’s better when it doesn’t involve feelings. I think it’s better when it doesn’t involve eye contact.”
“Wow. Seriously?” Brittany looks at her sympathetically. “That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. God, who hurt you?”
Santana didn’t expect her comment to strike a nerve. The memory of short blonde hair and a cunning smile sneaks its way past Santana’s defenses as she mutters, “One guess.”
Brittany looks at her curiously before something clicks, “Oh. The girl.”
Santana doesn’t like where this is going and pushes away the overwhelming feelings that beg to bust through. She walls herself up, holds her chin high and swallows back the lump.
“Yeah well,” Santana brushes off. “I think it's pretty unrealistic to go out there thinking every potential lay has to be relationship material first. Where's the fun in that?”
Brittany continues to eye her like she’s wounded and Santana hates it.
“The fun part is getting to know someone first so when it does happen,” Brittany pauses as she bites her lip. “It's meaningful.”
Santana averts her eyes, because staring into Brittany’s makes her feel far too exposed. Instead she retreats in on herself to place she’s comfortable, she takes the attention off of her.
“Gross. Who knew you were such a hopeless romantic,” Santana jokes.
Brittany sighs through a soft smile, “Call me old fashioned I guess.”
“Super old fashioned,” Santana quips. “Like, are you telling me you've never had a steamy quickie with a random? Everybody's got one.”
Brittany looks away and as she smirks, “Of course I have. I’m not that innocent.”
Santana perks up, “Really? Miss Goodie Two Shoes getting down and dirty without before being properly courted? God, I want details…”
Brittany snickers, “Not happening.”
“What?” Santana shifts in her seat excitedly. “Come on, what's a little girl talk between friends or are you the type that doesn’t kiss and tell because lame.”
Brittany looks up at her and smirks, “You saying we're friends?”
“Will it get you talking?”
Brittany laughs, “We should get back to work now. You've derailed us for long enough.”
“Come on, Britt-Britt,” Santana coos jokingly. “We've been at it for hours. I'm burnt out, sober and in dire need of sex.”
“None of that is my problem.”
“Sure it is,” Santana jokes. “The least you can do is tell me a couple of your kinky stories to get me through the night.”
“No.”
“Please?”
Brittany gives her a look, but Santana just bats her eyelashes. It makes Brittany laugh and she softens once again.
“Actually, I might be able to help you out.”
Santana sits straighter, “It was only a matter of time…”
Brittany rolls her eyes, “Get over yourself. Not every girl on campus wants you, including me.”
Santana laughs, “Whatever helps you sleep at night, Britt-Britt.”
“Anyway,” Brittany continues, “I'm talking about a swanky party – a ball even.”
“A ball, you say?” Santana’s interest is piqued.
“Totally.”
“You've got my attention…”
“Well, there’s going to be an open bar, free food, an excuse to dress up and let loose. That ticks off two out of three on your list.”
Santana quirks a brow, “And the catch?”
“No catch.”
“There's gotta be a catch.”
“Okay fine,” Brittany slumps. “It's the Brainiacs’ Ball.”
“The what?” Santana deadpans.
“The Brainiacs’ Ball,” Brittany clarifies. “It's open to all the academic decathlon clubs across the city, this year we’re hosting. The team with the highest winning percentage is named and also the award for Most Brilliant Brainiac is given out. It's the biggest night for the club.”
“Oh, hell no,” Santana chuckles. “There’s not enough free alcohol in the world to get me to go to that. Count me out.”
Brittany starts to frown, “What? Why?”
Santana shakes her head, “One of your matches was enough. I'm not going to a party where I have to be surrounded by all of you at once.”
“It won't be that bad,” Brittany sighs. “It's a night for celebrating. No trivia unless you count the bad puns you might hear.”
“I've seen the guys on your team,” Santana explains. “I can't be liable for the feelings I'd definitely hurt if I were to be around them. I’d be triggered by pocket protector.”
“But you'll mostly be with me,” Brittany tries.
“That doesn’t really help your case.”
Brittany gives her a look, “Well, I kind of need you to go.”
“You need me to go?”
“Well yeah, I don't want to be the only one there without a date,” Brittany reasons. “Plus wouldn't it be suspicious if you didn't go considering we're a thing?”
Santana lets out a laugh, thinking that she’s finally caught on.
“So that it explains it,” She says.
“Explains what?”
“The coffee the other day, sharing study tips, being here,” Santana goes on, “You’ve been setting yourself up to ask me to your dumb ball.”
Brittany tenses, “'First of all, it's not dumb.”
“Sorry. I should've said nerdy,” Santana clarifies.
“I wasn’t doing those things for this,” Brittany tells her. “I was… I did them to be nice. We don’t always have to be at each other. It doesn’t always have to be a competition.”
Santana shakes her head as she gets to thinking. She knows Brittany’s cunning too, she knows that she can play games so who’s to say she wasn’t playing this time?
“I'm not going,” Santana replies. “You can tell people I'm sick or something.”
Brittany lets out a bitter laugh, “Right. So this relationship thing only works when it's in your favor?”
Santana frowns at the harshness of Brittany’s tone, something that doesn’t feel right coming from the blonde.
“What are you talking about?” Santana huffs. “That’s not – “
“We always do what you want,” Brittany interrupts. “Whatever makes you look good but this one time I ask you for something and it's just a flat out no?”
Brittany’s face has gone a little red and Santana’s further surprised – she didn’t think it was this big of a deal. She doesn’t grasp why Brittany’s so worked up all of sudden. Why would she want someone there with her if they didn’t want to be there in the first place?
“Look, it's better if I don't go because if one dork in clunky black glasses wearing suspenders and a hideous bowtie crosses paths with me I won't be able to contain myself,” Santana argues. “I'll end up hurting someone's feelings and you said it yourself, it's a night for celebration.”
Brittany looks at her like she’s hit a new low. Hell, maybe she just did.
“You're unbelievable,” Brittany huffs as she stands and starts gathering her things.
“What?” Santana watches her with a sudden ache in her chest. “You’re leaving?”
“Clearly,” Brittany mutters. “I can’t be around you right now.”
“All because I don’t want to go?”
Brittany shakes her head, another bitter laugh escaping her.
“No,” She says gravely. “It’s because you’re the most selfish person I’ve ever met.”
Santana tenses at the way her words drip with disdain, but at the same time it puts her on the defense.
“Well sorry that I’m not like you,” Santana argues. “Sorry I can’t just slip into character with ease and be your perfect fake girlfriend whenever you want. Sorry I’m not on all the time like you are.”
Brittany just stares at her for a moment, studying Santana’s face before she speaks again.
“Just when I think I’ve figured you out,” Brittany continues. “Just when I think you’re actually a half-decent person and that maybe beneath this prickly exterior of yours, there’s actually something – someone – deserving of…of a friend you go and prove to me that I’m wrong.”
Santana slumps back in her chair, dejected and defeated.
Even if Brittany didn’t physical hit her, those words sure did. She can’t even speak as she watches Brittany gather the last of her things and storm out. What’s worse is that she swears she sees blue eyes tinging red just before she turns away.
Santana slaps her hand at the table when the door slams shut behind Brittany. She instantly feels the sting of wood on her open palm.
Why? Why does she always have to screw things up like this?
\\
Puck comes through the door just a minute later, looking confused as well.
“So I just passed Britt in the hall,” He says hesitantly.
“Yeah, she left.”
Puck slowly closes the door behind him, “Why?”
“Because,” Santana lets out a long puff of air. She feels the lump forming again in her throat, strange and unwelcome. “Because I’m an idiot.”
“Dude,” His face falls. “Please tell me you didn’t try to make a move on her. The games earlier were cute and all but – “
“No,” Santana quickly answers. “I didn’t do that.”
“Then what happened?” Puck asks. “She looked really upset.”
Santana presses her lips tightly together, she’s almost ashamed to admit the truth.
“She wanted me to go to some ball with her,” Santana says dismissively. “I told her no.”
“You told her no?” Puck quirks a brow.
“I can’t.”
“You can’t?” Puck frowns. “After all the stuff she’s done for you, you can’t?”
“Look, I can see where I fucked up okay?” Santana snaps. “I don’t need you adding to it.”
Puck shakes his head as he backs off. “You really are an idiot.”
Santana agrees but she doesn’t tell him that.
“You know it’s not a good idea,” Santana tries convincing him. “It’ll be nothing but those academic decathlon nerds and not just the ones from Brittany’s team. It’ll be like ten times that! They’ll be from all over the city and you know how I am around the general public especially when I’m provoked. I could screw up and expose us both. It’s too risky.”
Puck doesn’t say anything, just listens to her excuses.
“I can’t do it,” Santana tells him with finality. “I can’t. Brittany might be pissed at me right now, but she’ll see it’s for the best. I’d just ruin her night because I don’t know how to act anyway. She’ll come around, she has to.”
“Sure Santana,” Puck dismisses and goes to flip open the pizza box. “So…does this mean I can have her pizza too?”
Santana just shakes her head, “Shut up.”
characters: venti, reader
warnings: alcohol mention
word count: 3,029
notes: been trying out venti as a muse on a roleplay blog i have, but I wanted to have a crack at writing a reader with him. i'm not a poet in any sense of the word, so i'm sorry if isn't up to venti's standards lmao. if you tolerated all the rhyming, you deserve a gold star and a high-five.
You had tried so hard to make it back in time, but were disappointed when you returned to find Mondstadt barren of the usual Windblume decorations. There were no wreaths or elaborately decorated banners, no potted plants sporting twirling pinwheels. The scent of fresh flowers and baking goods persisted, but it didn’t carry with it the festive spirit. People were, once again, content to ask for help rather than tend to their own needs.
‘ And that’s why I missed out. . . ’ You brooded. It was because you offered yourself as a member of the Adventurer's Guild that you had found yourself pulled away from your home. You had been promised that the job in question wouldn’t take you longer than three days, give or take a day depending on how well you did. But, as it turned out, you had been gone for an entire week. And in that week, the festival had come and gone.
Windblume had never been about the romance for you. Every year, you looked forward to the food and atmosphere, letting the spirit carry you away. This year, however, you had held onto the fleeting hope that someone might show interest. Or that you might gather the courage to approach the one you so adored. You knew it was a lame excuse to depend on one holiday to steel your nerves, but the time and your chance had dashed past in the blink of an eye.
“Shouldn’t have taken the damn commission.” You slumped at an outdoor table near The Angel’s Share, a half-empty tankard of cider resting in your hands. You drummed your fingers along the side of the tankard, willing yourself not to be bummed. The holiday would come around again next year, you reminded yourself as you downed another gulp. “But I’ll probably get sent out then too.”
You stooped forward even further, cheek nearly pressed flat to the table when the familiar sound of plucked lyre strings thrummed in your ear. You sat straight so abruptly that you made yourself dizzy, your need to look around rapidly for the source not helping the fuzzy feeling in your head.
“Venti?” You called his name with such unbridled hope that he couldn’t keep himself hidden for long. A giggle sounded above you, and you felt your diminishing mood soar when you spotted the colorful bard sitting along the eaves of the tavern, beloved lyre in hand.
“The one and only!” He cooed, soaking in your glee. “Looks like you started without me.”
You frowned and peered down at your table, noting the two other empty tankards. Cheeks flushed from embarrassment, you pushed them aside, as if that would make them ( and your shame ) disappear. “Look, I just got back and I find out I missed out on Windbl——!”
Eyes up, you realized too late that Venti had vanished from the roof. You blinked once, then twice, your cider-addled mind slow to catch up. Where did he go?
“I was wondering where you’d gone off too.” His voice bobbed along the air, light and playful, and it tugged your attention like a hook pulling along a caught fish. He sat across from you, his chin resting in his palm and bright eyes twinkling with eternal mischief. “Missed Windblume, huh?”
“Mhmm.” You grunted and polished off the rest of your drink, mood dropping again. “I was looking forward to it too. Did I miss anything important?”
Venti hummed and leaned back in his seat. Absentmindedly, he toyed with the strings of his lyre. “Let me think. Margaret thought of a new, non-alcoholic drink and it went over pretty well with the kids and those looking to keep themselves a little more dignified during the festivities. Our own Honorary Knight was named this years Windblume Star! Oh! That’s right, I taught a class on the art of expressing ones love though poetry.”
You snorted.
“You taught people to write poems?” Your eyes narrowed suspiciously. “At what cost?”
“Come noq, Y/N, do you really think I could put a price on the ability to write out what a person’s heart yearns for most?” He paused, saw your deadpan stare, then let out a nervous chuckle. “A few bottles of holiday-exclusive wine is all I asked for.”
“Begged is more like it.” You rolled your eyes and shook your head. “How many bottles exactly?”
“Enough to tide me over.” Answered the bard vaguely.
“Is there any left?”
His silence was all the answer you needed. You groaned, let your head hit the table, then left it there as your forehead throbbed. Venti, sporting the rare flicker of guilt across a normally jovial face, leaned forward to pat at the back of your head.
“Hey, don’t be down. I have an idea!”
You lifted your head, but your eyes were downcast and dulled. “Is it a bad idea? I don’t think I want to mess with anyone right now, Venti.”
“I thought of the idea, so of course it’s a good one! And we’re not going to mess with anyone.” Venti grinned from ear-to-ear and stood, offering you a single, delicate hand. You gave it a hard stare, wondering what sort of troublesome plans he had brewing in his head. Unfortunately, you weren’t able to come up with a believable excuse as to why you couldn’t indulge him.
Leaving your empty tankards behind, you stood and took Venti’s hand. You stumbled the slightest bit before finding your footing. “What’s your idea, O Great and Fantastical Bard?”
“Since you’re being so kind as to lavish me in well-deserved compliments, I’ll tell you.” He winked at your withering glare. “You’re going to help me compose a song!”
“How is that going to cheer me up? I’m not poetic.” You grumbled. Venti clicked his tongue as he guided you away from the tavern and towards the cathedral.
“That is wildly untrue, Y/N! Everyone is capable of expressing themselves through poetry.” He argued.
“But I’m not good at rhyming or thinking of pretty words.” You countered. Venti sighed and gave your fingers an encouraging squeeze.
“That’s not what it’s about. No one said that poetry was meant to impress people. If it does, that’s a bonus, but the point is to shape your feelings. You write how you feel, not how you want to sound. If you don’t rhyme, that’s fine. If you want to use big words, then by all means! Short words are still words, and they can still carry your thoughts with them. There are no rules with it comes to poetry, no matter what some stuffy scholar might say.” He tugged your hand and pulled your arm up high, leading you into an impromptu twirl. Unable to help yourself, you fell into a fit of laughter that instantly lifted your mood.
“I guess you’re right, but that doesn’t make it any easier for me.” You followed along, a new spring in your step. Venti shrugged.
“Practice means progress!” He clearly wouldn’t allow you to wallow in your negativity, and you were quietly grateful for it. If there was anyone that could lift you out of a funk, no matter how deep and depressing it may be, it would be him.
Venti lead you past the statue of Barbados and around the side of the cathedral, where he perched on the side of a stone railing. Beyond you sat the lake, it’s surface a constantly shifting sheet of vivid oranges, cheerful yellows, warm reds and sleepy blues. The sun was setting, and soon night would fall, but Venti didn’t seem concerned. If it didn’t worry him, then it didn’t worry you, so you found a seat beside him and made yourself comfortable.
“The breeze is nice. . .” You let your eyes fall closed, skin kissed by a gentle twirl of the air against your heated cheeks. You couldn’t see then how Venti’s lips quirked up subtly, an adoration in his eyes that not many earned. He watched you for all of one, still moment before your eyes opened and he was forced to look elsewhere.
“Yeah, it is. So!” Quick to discard the hammering in his chest, Venti pulled forward his lyre and cleared his throat. “About that song——”
“What is it about?”
“Unspoken love, the kind that lives in your chest and makes every moment spent with the person you adore both exciting and painful.” His fingers strummed one string, then another. You frowned, the first few notes squeezing at your heart.
“Why is it unspoken?” You wondered, keeping your voice low.
“Because, sometimes, confessing is more selfish and cruel than never saying anything at all. Because opening up one’s heart may lead to more pain than you first expect.” The melancholy notes only proved to add more hurt to your chest, but still the bard smiled.
“Do you really want to write a song that sad?” You weren’t sure that your flimsy mood could handle thinking about such a morose subject.
“Oh, don’t misunderstand, dear friend~ The reason for love’s silence is upsetting, but the love itself is anything but!” Venti began to swing his legs, and you felt the breeze pick up. Green eyes turned up towards the sky, while a subtle tinge of pink touched his cheeks. “I’ll think of the first few lines, then you chime in with whatever your lovely little mind and heart think of first. Alright?”
“If you say so.”
“Great!” Skilled fingers began to play, the heart of the music beating in time with your own. “I want it to start like this: I want always to treasure your warm soul and kind eyes. . .”
You waited for more, but were met with a calm quiet. A single glance from the bard, and you suddenly felt as is everyone in town could hear and see you. Face burning hot with embarrassment, you looked out towards water rather than at your companion.
“I want always to treasure your warm soul and kind eyes. Hmm.” You breathed in deep and muttered the first thing that came into your head. “Every smile and glance like a hard-earned prize.”
“Good! And you said you weren’t skilled at this.” Venti beamed, the sheer glee behind his praise lifting your mood higher still. “Let’s keep going. Next line: Your voice it rings like the sweetest prayer. . .”
You thought hard again, arms crossed tight and lips pursed. This was as difficult as you thought it might be, but Venti’s enthusiasm was infectious. So, again you offered the only words that rose to the top of your mind. “. . . a blessing from lips so fair.”
Venti hummed, the sound soft and low in his chest. “Indeed they are.”
“What?”
“Nothing! Moving on!” He slipped from the stone railing and came to stand in front of you, posture loose and playful even as he came dangerously close. “I adore you, I do. My heart is yours, it’s true. Little skips and steady pounding, my dear, you are astounding.”
Feeling him so near, his eyes mirthful and intent on you, you couldn’t help but to shrink into yourself a little. You grasped the railing you sat on and hunched your shoulders, eyes glued to your feet. If only those words were meant for you. Oh, but then what would you do?
“Is this meant to inspire other people to think of their love, or are you thinking of someone in particular?” You couldn’t and wouldn’t dare to hope, but you had to ask.
The strumming stopped, but you didn’t turn your gaze up.
“Perhaps I am,” Venti purred coyly, “why? Is there someone you’re thinking about?”
“Don’t be such an imp.” You kicked a foot out, but he was quick to step aside. Your aggression, though harmless, pulled a laugh from the bard. “I might be thinking of someone.”
“Who is it?” Venti pestered. “Do I know them?”
“Maybe.” You sported a cheeky smile of your own. Venti moved in an inch or two more to your side, leaving only a breadth of space between the two of you.
“Do they inspire you?” He asked. You sighed, completely unable to contain the need.
“He does.”
“Oh, so they’re a he, are they? That narrows it down.” He tittered and let himself play a soft, ambient tune. “Does he know how you feel?”
“No way!” You let out a bark of laughter. “Been trying to keep it a secret.”
“Why?” Venti blinked, appearing thoroughly baffled. “He should know!”
“What was it you said? Confessing is selfish sometimes. . .”
“Using my words against me. Cruel.” Venti sighed. “You really won’t tell him?”
“Not until it’s right, and not until I’m strong enough to accept the possibility that he might not feel the same.” Your smile was feeble and didn’t quite reach your eyes. “Chances come and go, away with the wind they blow, so I hold these lovelorn words inside my chest, never to be confessed.”
Venti frowned, watching as your fingers pressed and rubbed at the sudden ache right where your heart sat. His own reacted in kind, the horribly familiar grasp of doubt squeezing at his chest. He knew those thoughts and feelings all to well.
“In your heart the feelings run deep, but darling, don’t put them to sleep.” He reached out again when you dismissed his lyrics with a scoff, only this time you didn’t hesitate to place your hand in his. He didn’t drag you away from where you sat, but let his fingers slip between yours. Your heart stuttered a moment, the gentleness of the gesture filling you with gratitude and trace amounts of confusion.
The breeze picked up again, and you thought you could still hear the gentle song of the lyre despite him being preoccupied.
“Look at me.” He voice dropped to a whisper, so soft and airy that you almost didn’t catch it. But when you did, you bashfully locked your gaze with his. The sweetest smile pulled at his lips, the glimmer in his eyes so sincere that it made your own eyes prickle at the very corners.
Why did you have to fall for someone like him? Why couldn’t you have fallen for someone forgettable, or someone that wasn’t almost always within reach?
“Listen to my words, find them true, only a moron would reject you. You are wanted, loved and adored, you are more precious than any treasure hoard.” Venti arched himself forward, his forehead meeting with yours. Music continued to play in your ears, making the air around his words sweet. Could you believe them when they came from someone as flighty as him? You wanted desperately to, but you had to argue, to contest his open fondness for you.
“By the time the day is done, you’ll have said that to everyone.” You countered. Venti couldn’t hold back a laugh, his head moving away from yours. Already, you regretted sassing him. Come back, stay close.
“You’re getting better at that. While it’s true that I love to sing peoples praises, what I give you aren’t throwaway phrases. You’ve caught me, dear heart, and I want to surrender, allow me to bask in your unending splendor.”
You snorted and gave him a harmless shove. Venti grinned and gave in to your push, but he was near again in an instant.
“It can’t be that hard to believe that someone would love you. Don’t you believe me?” His question hung heavy in the air, leaving you momentarily speechless. Your mouth opened and closed, and each time your words failed you. Only after a long moment of listening to you stammer did Venti cautiously lean in. “Should I be selfish?”
“What does it mean for a bard to be selfish?” After a moment of mental screaming, you felt a smirk tease at your lips, but it was short lived. “Aside from drink all his wine before sharing it with someone?”
“Selfish bards do many, many things.” He spoke slowly, making sure each word dragged and lured you in. “I’ll admit it was silly to drink all the wine without you, but I can make up for it.”
You hummed contemplatively, each passing second tugging you closer and closer.
“How?”
“More wine?” He offered. You pulled a face.
“Mmmn, maybe. And?” Your mind was numb at this point, the idea that you two were so close making every inch of your body squirm. You had only daydreamed of sappy little scenarios like this, so living one out felt too good to be true. You were waiting to wake up, in fact, because this couldn’t be real. He couldn’t be tempting the idea of confessing to you when the entire world of Teyvat could offer him better.
“Songs written just for you?” Venti’s grin broadened, but there was a hitch in his breath when you nudged the tip of your nose against his.
“Anything else?” You egged him on, catching a flare of darker green in his eyes. He said nothing, but the way he moved his hand to touch your cheek spoke volumes. “How about a share of the apples you pick every day, or some mora, or——?”
“You’re talking too much.” He muttered, lips only a fraction away from yours.
“That’s rich coming from you. . .”
His breath was warm and welcome and mingled with yours for all of one second before you felt the notion of a kiss. It was then that the bell above the cathedral chimed, it’s proximity and the intensity of the clap jarring you and the bard from your shared trance. You jerked away, flushed and wide-eyed, while Venti clicked his tongue. Vexed, he glared up towards the cathedral.
“You can’t be serious.”
“I need to go.” You scrambled from your spot, heart hammering so hard in your ears that it almost drowned out the sounds of the bell. “I forgot to see Katheryne about the commission!”
Venti arched a brow. “Oh, really?”
“Yes, really.” You vaulted over the railing and contemplated running off without another word, but it didn’t feel right. Rather than succumb to cowardice and embarrassment, you turned to face the bard. “Tomorrow. We’ll do this again, I promise, and. . .”
“And?”
“We’ll finish where we left off.”
“I was hoping you’d say that!”
Fox Mulder, Closet Romantic Ch. 2: Casual Friday the 13th
Previous Chapter - AO3 Link - MSR, rated E
He gives himself a pep talk on the way to work the next morning. It feels ridiculous.
Just ask her out, he thinks. Be casual. Invite her to grab a drink, act like you’re going whether she joins you or not. It’s just Scully.
That’s some bullshit; she’s not just anything to him. She’s everything.
Also he doesn’t go to bars much, and never alone, so he’s not sure how subtle this will be.
He pushes the thoughts out of his head until they’re leaving the office at the end of the day, gathering their things and donning winter layers.
“Buy you a drink, Agent Scully?” he tosses out casually, taking her coat from the rack.
“Hm, what’s the occasion?” she asks.
“Friday the thirteenth; I’m testing my luck,” he replies, holding her coat open for her.
She slips her arms into the sleeves. “I guess one wouldn’t hurt,” she decides.
Huh. That was surprisingly easy.
He chalks it up to beginner’s luck and ushers her out the door with a hand on her back.
They end up at Casey’s Bar because it’s close to the Hoover Building, and neither of them had wanted to walk too far through the cold February night. Mulder’s a little nervous, but not enough to let it show. At the risk of being overconfident, he thinks it’s actually going pretty well. This outing is markedly different from every first date he’s had in the past. There’s no need for small talk with Scully, no pressure to act more gregarious or charming than he naturally is. Scully herself is a refreshing presence, like a crisp spring breeze. Cool without being austere, gentle and yet invigorating.
Also she doesn’t know it’s a date, so there’s that.
They perch at the far end of the counter and shoot the shit, talk about work. She orders a draught beer, and seeing the large glass in her little hand makes his stomach flutter nonsensically. He orders one too, just to keep pace with her, though he suspects she could drink him under the table if the occasion ever arose. The thought is strangely erotic.
Mulder watches her full pink lips press against the edge of her glass and he clears his throat awkwardly. Down, boy. He scrambles for a diversion.
“Any special plans for tomorrow night?” he asks, taking a foamy swallow of beer.
“What’s- oh.” Scully sets down her glass. “No, not this year,” she says softly.
He suddenly feels like a prick.
“You?” she asks, because she’s a polite human being.
Diffuse the moment, buddy. “I’ve got a pretty hot date, actually.”
Her shoulders stiffen momentarily. Interesting. “Oh?” she says lightly.
“Yeah, the boys invited me over to pick apart some found footage they stumbled upon. Frohike’s making chili.”
Scully’s face breaks into a smile, and he feels a wash of relief. She shakes her head. “You know, for about two seconds I thought you might actually have a life. It was a surreal experience.”
“I have a life, Scully,” he insists. It’s you. Aliens, conspiracy, and you.
“Mhm,” she hums, licking a bit of stray foam off her upper lip, causing a twinge south of his belt buckle. “Mulder, can I ask you a highly personal question?”
He coughs awkwardly. “No guarantees that I’ll answer, but sure. Hit me.”
She suddenly seems nervous. “Well… we’ve known each other for five years now, and we spend a lot of time together. I’ve met your mother, your friends. And in all that time, I’ve not known you to go on a single date.”
Besides this one, he thinks. “And?” he prompts.
She absently wipes her finger through the condensation on her glass. “Well, I can’t figure out why not. Your - preferences - are quite evident, and I’m sure finding a willing partner would be fairly easy for you, at least for… casual encounters.”
I don’t want casual encounters, he thinks. I want to burn pancakes for you on Sunday mornings.
He huffs out a breath of laughter. “I have it on good authority that I’m not the best company, Scully. What makes you think it’d be easy?”
She takes a long pull of her beer. “Because you’re very attractive.”
His heart stops momentarily, then starts back up at twice the speed. He scrambles for some composure. “Oh, so you think I’m attractive,” he teases lightly. He hopes she doesn’t notice the sudden tremble in his fingers.
Scully nods, as though she hadn’t just dropped a bomb on him. “Yes, I do. A lot of people do, Mulder,” she adds quickly. The lighting in the bar is dim, so he assumes he’s imagining the flush on her cheeks. Or it’s the beer. “The women’s restroom at the Bureau is a cesspool of gossip.”
“Well I’m not the only hot piece of ass in the X-Files division,” he says, glancing at her over the rim of his glass.
“Don’t let Skinner hear you say that,” she quips. “He’s shy.”
Mulder grins, amused by her deflection. “People talk about you too, Scully. I’ve had to fend off suitors for you more than once.” Now it’s her turn to squirm, he thinks.
She blinks rapidly. “You’re joking.”
Mulder chuckles. “Swear. Every once in a while a guy will ask me something about you. I tell ‘em to ask you themselves, and I assume they usually chicken out.”
“What kind of things do they want to know?”
Mulder shakes his head. “Let’s just say they’re not asking me your favorite color,” he says simply, lifting his glass to his mouth once more. “You can imagine the rest.”
Scully presses her lips together. “I don’t have to, unfortunately,” she sighs. “Thanks for having my back,” she adds.
He shrugs. “I’m your partner,” he says. “I’ll always have your back.”
He suddenly remembers a conversation he had a little over a year ago, a month or so before Scully’s birthday. It seems like a fitting time to tell her.
“There’s only been one guy that I thought was alright,” he says. “I, uh, never told you this, Scully, because it was confidential, but seeing as the subject in question is now deceased…”
Scully turns to him on her stool. “Mulder, what?”
“Pendrell. He liked you.”
She knits her brows together in that adorable way she has. “I liked him too.”
“I mean, he really liked you,” Mulder emphasizes. “He asked me once if you were seeing anyone.”
“Oh,” she says. "What did you tell him?”
“I told him ‘Agent Scully’s personal life is her business, and any questions regarding it should be posed to her directly’.”
“Very formal,” she muses. “I should print that on my business cards for you to hand out.”
“The thought’s crossed my mind. Are you currently accepting applications for the position of ‘boyfriend’?” Mulder asks. “I’d be happy to field candidates.”
“Oh, I bet you’d love that,” Scully says with an eye roll. “Admit it, you like interrogating suspects. Especially when you think they’re mutants of some kind.”
“I promise that any potential boyfriends will be firmly terrestrial and completely unremarkable.”
The sentence hangs in the air for a long moment. “I don’t know that I want that after all,” Scully finally says quietly. “The husband with a nine-to-five, the picket fence, the priest over for lunch after Sunday mass. I’ve seen too much, done too much, to really fit into that picture anymore.”
Mulder feels a pang in his chest, the old familiar guilt creeping in. “This is a lonely path,” he admits. “Working nonstop to find evidence, only to have it be discounted offhand.”
“No closure, no arrests, no satisfying conclusions to leave you feeling a little bit safer knowing you did your job,” Scully adds.
Mulder rubs his hand over his mouth, nodding. “Just weird substances that nobody can explain and accounts of phenomena that nobody believes. Spooky shit.”
Scully raises her drink with a sudden levity. “To spooky shit,” she toasts.
Their glasses clink, and the contact chimes in Mulder’s ears. A kiss of half-empty pints.
Mulder bites his lip absently, gathering his next words. “So… what do you want?” he asks carefully, leaning in a fraction.
Scully shakes her head, sighing softly. “That’s the big question, isn’t it? I can’t even think about long term at this point. My life is so different from what I’d planned, and I’m still adapting.”
“Alright, forget long term for the moment,” Mulder prompts. “What’s something that you want that you can acquire within, say, the next month or so?”
“You granting wishes now, Mulder?” she asks coyly, taking a sip of beer.
“Depends on what you ask for,” he replies, voice low.
It feels as though they’re circling the truth, caught in each other’s orbit, traveling an ellipse of the unspoken. He wonders if she feels it too. The beer has him weightless, spinning out into the unexplored reaches of space between them. He wants to grab her hand on the worn bar counter, anchor himself to her sun-warmed earth.
“As strange as it sounds,” she says after a moment, “I’m… oddly contented. If I spent more time on it I’m sure I could give you a whole list of things I feel I’m lacking, but at this moment none of them really matter.”
His heart accelerates. “Must be some beer,” he jokes.
She smiles at him, a soft closed-lip turn of her mouth that warms him better than any liquor. “Company’s not half bad either. Despite whatever good authority has told you otherwise.”
He drops a hand onto hers then, gives it a brief squeeze before returning it to his glass and finishing his beer.
They walk back to the FBI parking garage, arms bumping each other as they brace themselves against the winter chill. Mulder escorts Scully to her car because he’s a gentleman and squeezing out every last second he can with her.
Scully ducks her head, seeming almost shy. “Thanks for inviting me. I haven’t been out in a while,” she says simply. “This was nice.”
Mulder shrugs, suddenly unsure how to orient his limbs. He wants to hug her, but he knows this isn’t the right time. “Don’t mention it,” he replies, shoving his hands into his coat pockets.
“Enjoy your ménage à quatre with the Gunmen,” she says with a cheeky grin.
“I’ll save some kisses from Frohike for you,” he replies with a wink.
They face each other, suddenly quiet. It feels as though they waded too far into the ocean and drifted down shore, losing sight of their picnic spot. They float in the silence, buoyed by their exchange, but uncertain as to where they stand.
“Goodnight,” Mulder says finally, because he can’t think of what else to say beyond that and ‘I love you’. Or ‘come home with me’.
“‘Night,” she replies, unlocking her car door and slipping inside.
He wanders aimlessly over to his car and bundles into the driver’s seat, heaving a deep, half-contented sigh. He considers the evening a tentative success, despite a somewhat unsatisfactory conclusion.
He jerks off when he gets home, holding Scully’s sweet face in his mind’s eye as he comes shamefully into his own lonely hand.
Jay is from the show Red Widow and unfortunately he's not really known 😅 At first I wanted to ask for Jack but I had no idea of the details for the story... Maybe he had to leave reader because of his job, but he loves her too much and decides to come back and find out that she is pregnant (a baby girl) I know, it's not original but i can't imagine anything else for this charming cowboy 🥺
Whole (Jack Daniels x Fem!reader)
Notes: Idk why I struggled so hard to write this fic but here she is in all her glory........yay. Not as smutty as per usual to prove I’m not a total whore but here ya go
Summary: after your life is threatened unbeknownst to you, whiskey takes it upon himself to protect you the only way he thinks he can––by leaving you. but what his cowboy brain doesn’t for see, is that he’s doing both of you more damage than good especially after a happy little accident.
warnings: brief description of smut and aftercare (like the La Croix of smut but still no minors), ANGSTTTTTTT, rOUGH, unplanned pregnancy, a slap, and a happy ending
Jack should have known the first time he wasn’t meant to have this kind of happiness—the kind where one could always have someone to return home to at the end of the day. No, he couldn’t have it with his late wife and he couldn’t have it with you either.
The human trafficker had somehow gotten access to personal statesmen information, because he had found out about you. Had your name. Had shown him pictures of you. Had shown that men were waiting at your doorstep if Jack didn’t back down now.
Thankfully, they were able to stop the man before it came to any of that—but it broke something in Jack. He couldn’t have another woman he loves die like his wife. He didn’t know if he could handle it. You didn’t even know about Jack’s real job, all you knew was that he was the CEO of a distillery and you never asked questions about that. Maybe it was easier keeping it like that, as Jack realized the only way to keep you safe was to leave you.
He had picked a night, picked a place to head out to after it was all over, and planned out the note. He had made love to you one last time before leaving—slowly savoring the way your skin felt pressed against him and the way it felt to have your walls drag against him when he thrusted, and finally stilled deep inside you. He made sure to take care of you before he left, clean with all sore muscles rubbed out and well hydrated—comfortable as you could be. You fell asleep so easily it somehow made Jack more guilty for what he thought was the right thing. He stayed longer than he should have after he wrote the note and got dressed, bag packed by the door, just staring at you, attempting to memorize the sound of your soft noises as you slept and the way your naked body looked covered by the sheets and pale moonlight. It was the most beautiful scene he had ever seen and wanted it to be the clearest memory he had of you. Tears sprung in his eyes, thinking that this is the only thing he will ever have of love—memories. He kissed your forehead one last time before walking out of your life forever.
*****************************
Jack hasn’t felt alive since, the toll of leaving you behind eating at him more than he ever thought it could. He’s changed in a way and everyone knows it—they see the way he moves or speaks now and know something has changed. He just goes through the motions of living with no actual life in his eyes to prove he is alive. He throws himself into his work working through cases and bad guys more efficiently than ever, but it doesn’t distract him from losing you—not when he lies awake at night crying and missing you.
Everyone around him changes too—Tequila doesn’t tease him anymore and walks around him like they’re threading through a room full of broken glass. Ginger does more medical evaluations—ones that are less to do with physical health and more to do with mental health. Most of all—champ acts different, “son—“
Jack pauses from exiting the debriefing room after giving Champ a status report and picking up another case, “I’m wondering if you should take a few days off from wo—“
“No,” Jack says curt and without a single space for bargaining. Champ is stiff when Jack looks at him, “I know you're wallowing over that girl.”
“I did what I had to do and I’m going to continue doing it.” Jack reminds him, staying steadfast in his decision. Champ shakes his head, “and it’s tearing you apart—statesmen get threats like that all the time Whiskey and they don’t go deserting their relatives or loved ones—“
“Well they're not me,” Jack states his stare is cold as he looks down at Champagne, “I can’t lose another person like that again.”
“You’ve lost her by leaving her,” his words cut through him and he knows it’s the truth, but it’s not something stubborn ol Jack is willing to withstand. Jack turns to leave again, “I’ll be off on the case.”
*****************************
You can’t help but pick up one of the sandwiches from the various food carts before they go out. It’s too tempting after standing for hours on your feet with a six month old pregnancy belly on your front—one you’re rubbing as you enjoy the taste of the mozzarella, pesto, and tomato together. The father of your child disappeared before you could even tell him—fitting considering you never grew up with a father in your house. So it has just been you and your baby girl, and well your best friend and business partner that was walking towards you now, joking “are the sandwiches up to your standards?”
“I needed something to eat after four hours of standing and being pregnant Travis,” you contest, taking another big bite. He shrugs with some sort of understanding, looking over the trays of food with you and approving them before they go off. Travis randomly starts, “I don’t think we should try to have this client again.”
You turn, finishing your sandwich with an eyebrow raise, “why? Did someone from the company say something to you—“
“Not that—although I was worried when the CEO invited his childhood priest—” he notes sending off the last tray, “I get bad vibes from the company itself.”
You think about it for a moment agreeing that something was fishy about the way a family-owned soap company was able to afford such a lavish event—something was a little off. You nod, “maybe not—I don’t want to get too close to a company that's a front. I doubt they would want us back because they’ve fired every event planner they’ve had before and the CEO’s wife already complained that the flower garnishes weren’t the correct shade of maroon.”
“We just have to finish the job then and we’ll be scott free” Travis mutters checking his watch, “just a couple hours left—what could go wrong?”
As though you were in a badly made comedy, right as Travis says that you hear clatter and gunshots come from the main event area, “......I spoke too soon didn’t I?”
*********************
Vincent Marsulio had tried to make a run for it once he realized his plans to run a million dollar drug business had gone to shit—I mean a soap company as a front? Really? Jack had dodged gunfire, tequila and the new agent rum covering him—allowing him to use his lasso to drag Vincent into Statesmen custody.
The scene was under control now—with agents and Ginger’s crime scene investigators gathering follow up information and evidence. Jack was just there to make sure the scene stayed secure and that no witnesses ran off that were revealed to be involved. Scanning the crowds of those being interviewed is when he saw you.
He should have known you were here—he should have seen your touches in the flower displays, the food selections, the drapery, and the table cloths. You were a party planner, he should have made note of that. You’re the same as the images in his mind—the memories that flash through his mind whenever he gets a flicker of your perfume or hears a laugh that sounds like yours. The only thing that's changed about you is your stomach—there's a sizable baby bump there, and he mumbles to himself “no…”
It had been seven months—seven months since he left you. It had to be his. He left you pregnant. As though you heard the gears turning in his head you turn and make eye contact with him—freezing in your place. He has to talk to you now, but you make efforts to move away, running towards a stairwell to get away from him as he shouts your name.
************
Despite being seven months pregnant you make a good chase, ducking down the stairwell and moving as fast as your swollen ankles will carry you while he shouts for you behind you. You can’t see him right now, he left, he doesn’t deserve this. Your condition must somewhat get the best of you as you end up stumbling on a landing—slowing down enough for him to catch up. You knew it was futile after all he ran faster than you even when you weren’t pregnant.
He grabs your wrist before you can go any farther, pulling you towards his body—only for you to wack a big slap to the side of his face, “how dare you—you asshole.”
“You're pregnant?” He asks quick as hell, and you frown still jabbing hits at him, “Why else am I so fucking big dickhead.”
He pulls you closer in an effort to restrain you from hitting him and from running away at any point, “is it mine?”
You had been avoiding looking at his face the entire portion of the ordeal—not wanting to see the face of the man that abandoned you. But you end up looking anyway and feel the tears spring up in your eyes. Despite the fact he left you you still feel love for him in your heart. You can’t lie to him, “it is.”
“Sugar, I’m—“ he breathes out, struck in the moment by every error he’s made in the past few months knowing he should have stayed, “I’m so sorry, please let me explain why I did what I did.”
You don’t respond just letting him speak at his own will as he settles you two down to sit on the steps of the stair. Jack tells you about his job, his wife, and the scare he had that just accumulated to him feeling like he had to leave to keep you safe. You had known about his late wife but none of the details about the affair and understood just why he was so afraid—but he still acted like an idiot. Head in hands, “why did you keep everything hidden from me Jack, I mean you lied to me about your job––no wonder I was able to find you after I found out, I was stuck looking for Jack Daniels brewery CEO instead of Jack Daniels statesmen.”
You got him there, “I should have––everyone told me I should have told you.” Silence emanates between the two of you, “I know sorry doesn’t make up for all I did––I don’t know if I can ever make up for what I did, but give me a chance because I want to be there for you and the kid–I love you sweet pea.”
Tears spring from your eyes, “I love you too Jack, we’ll figure it out I promise.”
Jack pulls you into his arms whispering what sounds like a thousand thank you’s for you and the girl in your belly, “it’s a girl you know.”
“A girl…” Jack trails off with a smile gleaming on his face and some unspoken joy in his eyes, that shifts into something of deep regret, “I was almost like him I don’t ever wanna be like him”
“You won’t.” you state firm and jack pulls away to cup your face and wipe away the errant tears still streaming down your face, “can I kiss you darling?”
“Please,” and with that the lips you have missed meld on to yours. After months, both alone and apart, both you and Jack feel a sense of security that everything will be alright––that your little family is finally whole.
