North Korea orders border army to be ready to shoot
The general staff of the DPRK’s Korean People’s Army on Sunday allegedly ordered artillery formations near the border with South Korea to be put on full alert, Korean media reported.
Pyongyang accused South Korea of sending drones into its airspace three times this month, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.
In a statement released by state media, Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of leader Kim Jong Un, says North Korea is ready to take “decisive retaliation” if drones carrying anti-North Korean material fly again, warning that an attack could come unexpectedly.
In response, South Korea’s Defence Ministry said any attempt by Pyongyang to endanger its citizens would bring down the North Korean government.
On Friday, North Korea’s foreign ministry said South Korean drones carrying leaflets were spotted over Pyongyang on October 3, as well as Wednesday and Thursday. North Korea has threatened a forceful response if such flights continue.
South Korean Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun initially denied any military drone incursions across the border, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff later said it could not verify North Korea’s claims.
South Korean authorities do not believe in the outbreak of war by the DPRK as it would be tantamount to suicide for Pyongyang, said Shin Won-sik, head of the national security office of the Korean presidential administration. the politician said in an interview with KBS television:
I believe that North Korea will not start a war unless it decides to commit suicide.
Shin Won-sik noted that since the end of the Korean War, there has always been a risk of a new full-scale military conflict on the peninsula. He emphasised that the possibility of the DPRK starting a war depends not so much on their desire, but on South Korea’s readiness and determination to resist such actions. In his opinion, South Korea should always be ready to respond to provocations by the North.

North Korea's most powerful woman | DW Documentary
youtube
She's probably the most powerful woman in North Korea: Kim Yo Jong, the dictator’s younger sister. She’s viewed as an emotionless and shrewd strategist for her brother, the North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un. But just who is the "Red Princess"?
Kim Jong Un’s rise began in 2011 when their father, the North Korean leader Kim Jong Il died at the age of 69. His death triggered emotional scenes including, at the funeral, that of a weeping woman who captured the attention of her country and the entire world: Kim Yo Jong.
This was Kim Yo Jong’s first official appearance alongside her brother Kim Jong Un, the new Supreme Leader of North Korea. Within a decade, Kim Yo Jong became the second highest ranking person in the Pyongyang regime and thereby her brother’s potential successor.
Kim Yo Jong holds a multifaceted political role: on the one hand, she knows where and when to deploy her charm -- such as on a visit to South Korea in 2018. But she also issues warnings against the "imperialists” of Seoul and Washington. The documentary examines the personality and the career of the "Red Princess”. It also takes a current look behind the scenes of this totalitarian regime. The nuclear power is mired in a crisis that originated at the outset of the Cold War.

Kim's sister warns N Korea ready to act against US, South
Kim Yo Jong didn’t elaborate on any planned actions in her statement, but North Korea has often test-launched missiles in response to US-South Korean military drills.
Tumblr media
SEOUL: The influential sister of North Korea’s leader warned Tuesday that her country is ready to take “quick, overwhelming action” against the United States and South Korea, a day after the US flew a nuclear-capable B-52 bomber in a demonstration of strength against the North.
Monday’s US-South Korean training involving the B-52 bomber over the Korean Peninsula was the latest in a series of drills between the allies in recent months. Their militaries are also preparing to revive their largest field exercises later this month.
Kim Yo Jong didn’t elaborate on any planned actions in her statement, but North Korea has often test-launched missiles in response to US-South Korean military drills because it views them as an invasion rehearsal.
“We keep our eye on the restless military moves by the US forces and the South Korean puppet military and are always on standby to take appropriate, quick and overwhelming action at any time according to our judgment,” Kim Yo Jong said in the statement carried by state media.
“The demonstrative military moves and all sorts of rhetoric by the US and South Korea, which go so extremely frantic as not to be overlooked, undoubtedly provide (North Korea) with conditions for being forced to do something to cope with them,” she said.
After Monday’s training, South Korea’s Defense Ministry said the B-52’s deployment demonstrated the allies’ decisive capacities to deter North Korean aggressions. The US deployed a long-range US B-1B bomber or multiple B-1Bs to the peninsula a few times earlier this year. Last month, the US and South Korea also held a simulation in Washington aimed at sharpening their response to North Korean nuclear threats.
Last Friday, the South Korean and US militaries announced they would conduct a computer-simulated command post training from March 13-23 and restore their largest springtime field exercises that were last held in 2018.
The allies had cancelled or scaled back some of their regular drills since 2018 to support now-dormant diplomacy with North Korea and guard against the COVID-19 pandemic. But they’ve been restoring their exercises after North Korea last year conducted a record number of missile tests and openly threatened to use its nuclear weapons in potential conflicts with its rivals.
In a separate statement Tuesday, North Korea’s Foreign Ministry called the flyover of the US B-52 bomber a reckless provocation that pushes the situation on the peninsula “deeper into the bottomless quagmire.”
The statement, attributed to the unnamed head of the ministry's foreign news office, said “there is no guarantee that there will be no violent physical conflict” if US-South Korean military provocations continue.
North Korea often unleashes fiery rhetoric in times of heightened animosities with the United States and South Korea. Possible steps North Korea could take include a nuclear test or the launch of a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile targeting the mainland US, observers say.
Last month, Kim Yo Jong threatened to turn the Pacific into the North’s firing range. In her statement Tuesday, she said North Korea would consider a possible US attempt to intercept a North Korean ICBM a declaration of war. She cited a South Korean media report saying the U.S. military plans to shoot down a North Korean ICBM if it’s test-launched toward the Pacific.
All known North Korean ICBM tests have been made at steep angles to avoid neighbouring countries, and the weapons landed in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.
South Korea on Monday took a step meant to ease a thorny history dispute with Japan in what was seen as an effort to boost the trilateral Seoul-Tokyo-Washington security cooperation. The step involves a plan that uses local funds to compensate Koreans who performed forced labour during Tokyo’s colonial rule but without requiring to require Japanese companies to contribute to the reparations.
US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel on Monday praised the leaders of South Korea and Japan, saying the two came to understand that “potential of collaboration into the future is more important and have a greater value and realizing you have to deal with historic issues.”

North Korean trash balloon hits South Korean presidential office
North Korean balloons carrying debris have landed near the South Korean presidential office, the presidential security service said on Wednesday.
The fallen rubbish was found near South Korea’s presidential office and defence ministry buildings, the presidential security service said. Analyses revealed that the objects posed no biological or chemical danger. Shortly before that, South Korean authorities reported another launch of several balloons with debris from North Korea.
North Korean authorities promised to “scatter waste paper and rubbish” in South Korea in response to propaganda materials found on DPRK territory. More than 3,000 balloons have been launched since the end of May, and parasites have been found in some of them.
In early June, Seoul announced its intention to resume broadcasting propaganda broadcasts from loudspeakers on the border with North Korea. Thus, residents of DPRK border areas will be able to hear k-pop, news and other South Korean programmes.
The decision could lead to a “very dangerous situation,” stressed Kim Yo Jong, deputy head of the department of the Central Committee of the DPRK Labour Party, sister of the country’s leader Kim Jong Un. She said:
“I seriously advise Seoul to immediately stop dangerous actions that could lead to further confrontation.”
