not even joking i would kill for some kind of beyond evil sequel focusing on jihwa. it doesn't even have to be a full time drama. a mini-series, a movie, anything is fine i just need it
#she has so much potential as a character but the show just didn't. have. time for her#and i'm always sad about it#jwds don't need to be there like they can be referenced or make a guest appearance idc#jihwa works in a violent crimes unit#you're telling me there can't be a compelling story about a woman with decades of unpacked trauma#encountering worst of humanity everyday but desperately trying to believe in the goodness of it and through it in the goodness of self#you're telling me we can't have an arc of her finally forgiving herself for leaving for doubting for wanting more for herself#there's so much that can be explored#literally do none of you ever think about you're better than me you're all better than me i hope jeongje did it i'm a monster right#do you never think about i'm sorry but what i wanted was to run away not to be consumed by your desires#do you never head in hands over i never got in your way once i let you do whatever you wanted and now you're telling me not to cross over#she's always delivering lines of all time and for what#actually i take it back#dongsik can be there#series focusing on jh&ds's relationship would slap#also kim shinrok and shin hakyun as leads#their sheer acting power alone would blast brain outta my skull please and thank you#have not had interest in watching anything recently beyond evil let me fucking go let me care about something else PLEASE#promise of upcoming shim nayeon thriller drama with two female leads is the only thing keeping me afloat tbh#whenever that happens

JUST THE TWO OF THEM!) AT THE DRAGON PALACE#I WAS SCREAMING CRYING SOBBING BECAUSE OF THEM

would anyone wanna see my Sweet Home au for jwds because the ideas keep flowing the more I watch sweet home season 2.
like the main concept of my au is basically to make juwon a neohuman/monster-human at the start of the apocalypse when it hits manyang. so basically jwds arguing in the basement, then it triggers juwons power/monster stuff (sorry dongsik you may have to suffer minimal injury and property damage). juwon knew he was infected from before then though but kept it quiet because his dad and job yada yada and then as the apocalypse goes on it becomes a question of how much longer can juwon keep his monstertification a secret and avoid getting killed or hurting anyone.
for dongsik I am thinking of just keeping him a regular human person who ended up roped into a mess (so basically canon). he does find yuyeon and the whole arc he goes on in BE does happen eventually dw. but that may have to go on the backburner in favour of maybe shooting down some monsters and helping people in the apocalypse. he's stressed, depressed, a bit of a mess. I'm thinking that he would be a bit of a reluctant leader type character.
its just a little au which will end up as a oneshot for now if people are interested. I just think that Hyunsu and Juwon may have some things in common like their beliefs and attitudes. when I watched the sweet home I thought that they were similar and Hyunsu reminded me of Juwon. oh and the fact that BE actors keep showing up in Sweet Home (Lee Dohyun in s1 and Kim Shinrok in s2).
if you're interested or have any further ideas then comment and reblog :)

I think it's time for a small Beyond Evil In Real Life, not because there's wigs or fancy costumes or anything, but because they frump up some of them so much to get that small town vibe, and also because I like looking at pretty pictures of pretty people.

2022 creator wrap
favorite works
bringing back a love thyself tag thing-y from two years ago to fill up an otherwise empty yearend queue
january - all i ever wanted was a sister as far as i could remember. therefore, the way my brain has been wired... it’s no surprise to combine the jazzy vocals of luisa (from encanto) with chungmuro’s finest showing of sisterhood in recent memory.
february - hongxue, my beloved. anita yuen hitting a corporate prick in the head, in cheongsam, is ~magnificent~ let’s not mince words. to my delight, i discovered she’s also been taking on roles checking the kissing women requirement all the way back to the early ‘90s. good for her.
march - an entry for kww featuring kang malgeum. have you ever been personally changed by the nation’s unni and her ghost smile or are you normal?
april - moran × oksun. i even assigned the invu album to their dynamic only to be immeasurably disappointed.
may/june - here’s the latest in the never-ending law of the lady shoutouts. i was provided, bombarded even, with so much jiejie crush material. (warning: wetv subtitles were just a grade above machine translation.) xu jie assuming the role of chen ran’s baby daddy – putting their “partnership” full circle – i dunno where to begin to thank cdramas for them.
july - it is Not Perfect nor was it archived here but ‘twas my humble offering for queen moon’s birthday [ofc it was going to be a sehwa fancam to the kpop milf anthem wooah hip].
august - do mob bosses gently ask to have dinners with their indentured servants? as per the miniature hell in my head, chairwoman kang insook certainly seems convinced that’s how it works with her secretary kim yoonjae. and if my takeaway from that terrible movie is a positive reception of the dismembered wrist marked with her tattoo and totes not leaving her for dead, so be it.
december - meet jin hwayoung, the youngest daughter of a conglomerate. fashionista, my meow meow, achieved having a purse-carrying malewife. (the last bit representing actual affection is very notable, considering everyone else in show-window marriages.) dad, ily, but we both know why i picked this drama up. long after the faux chaebol revenge fades from the limelight, the general public will continue to owe kim shinrok for refusing her talent to be boxed as merely garnish/‘only daughter amongst many sons’ and for her commitment to having maximum fun on set for us. give her a worthy slice-of-life next.
if you’ve read up to this point, i just want to express my sincere thanks for following me/my crazed hyperfixations ♡
sideblog stuff under the cut
special mention
this is the (half-)year i kinda leaned into vidding. with encouragement from dear friends, here are some archived because twtr video compression is absolute dogshit fruits of those late nights. i wanna try to do more next year, maybe revisit old ideas, while not abandoning my main bread and butter, gifs. here’s to hoping the quality of the two modes of output will be honed closer.
feeling each other’s ribs that are protruding
ok i lied, i’m not a ‘little bit’ in love with gwendoline christie; i want to sell my soul to her
#unsure if these are insightful to my 'creative' process but these surely are my thoughts alright#the plan is to start the year filling up the lack of jin hwayoung gifs#next capcut-ing project: hwachang#the monotony of pandemic times has been broken#only to be displaced by chronic fatigue#melting smiley has never been more relatable#that said i am so glad tumblr continues to exist#and so does my handful friends i love you i really do#i feel like i am actively missing a chunk of the year#all those complex giffing techniques i see lately ;~;#but i guess missing on that's just part of the sacrifice i chose (which i'm praying goeswell)

Iron Knights
The Iron Knights was a secretive organisation formed by the NIS in tandem with Destiny Liminal, allowing a small group of elite knights to become modified with godly DNA and mechanical armor in order to make them more efficient and on par with shifters. This group would eventually become the basis of the terrorist cell Protobeast, an anti-shifter group that used similar technology to hunt and kill known shifters and Chosens.
Known members of the group often only use singular-word aliases, pertaining to their abilities. One prominent member, Kim Soohong, was killed by accident in the line of duty to the military and his death subsequently covered up - but with that, his armor "Jugilis" was lost, and his then partner, Sangyi retired, swearing to investigate Soohong's death to his last breath and taking his set of armor, "Thorns" with him.
Made up of a mixture of Destiny Liminal subjects and modified elite soldiers, most of the group's identities are kept secret to the public and often have public personas.
Known Iron Knight Members
"Crown" (real name Ha Yoonsu): an obsessive and tough-talking young man who was promoted to leader of the Iron Knights when the original leader, "Leaves" (Chanyoung) disappeared. When he finds out Chanyoung was in fact still alive, he repeatedly tries to silence the now weakened Chanyoung in an attempt to secure his position once and for all. He was human, and chose to be modified in order to ensure he could keep up with the Destiny Liminal subjects - his favoured weapons are two long blades known as Tachyon Cutters.
"Leaves" (DV-23): the now mild-mannered software engineer Chanyoung with his dark past mired in highly skilled assassinations of political targets for the NIS. He chooses to keep his past self secret, but when Crown reappears, he is left with no choice but to once again mobilise his "Leaves" armor to take Crown down through a series of extensive fights. He eventually accepts his mother Shinrok's help in distributing his psychic abilities through the usage of her invention, containment units named "Booster Energies" that are injected through shafts on his spine.
"Spoons" (DM-21): the skittish and driven history student Joosang who had once been used as a profiler and interrogator, he escapes after his diagnosis and chooses to stand with Chanyoung when Crown reappears. He takes down Crown once through overloading Crown's brain with stolen memories, forcibly shutting down the armor in the process, but with his guardians' help, he has created a far more efficient armored suit to help with his condition.
"Boulder" (DT-26): created initially alongside DV-23 to assist him, the woman who takes the alias "Yeeun" would eventually turn against him due to perceived betrayal, and now devotes her time to trying to turn both the subjects in - she strongly believes that this is their only way to ensure that both of them don't get killed by Crown's rampage, and uses a greatsword in combat allowing her to parry and use mighty cleaves to break others' defenses.
"Jugilis" (real name Kim Soohong): deceased due to an accident in his day job in the military, he chose modification in the hopes of alleviating the burden of his ill mother and overworked brother. Became a vengeful spirit that eventually would find peace as an enforcer for the hellish realms, but able to take on temporary corporeal form through possessing his old Jugilis armor. Lovers with Sangyi, he chooses neutrality in this conflict due to being dead, and harbors no ill will to either group.
"Thorns" (real name Lee Sangyi): A reserved, cheerful art therapist who left his previous position due to the sudden death of his boyfriend Soohong, Sangyi took the Thorns armor with him and chose to retire from the NIS in the process. Along with Soohong, he also chose modification in an act of solidarity. He owns an art clinic that eventually ends up serving as a shelter for Boulder when she shows up wounded at his doorstep, but he, on behest of one of his past patients, chooses not to act until he finally can't.
"Treads" (real name unknown)
"Bundle" (real name unknown)
"Hands" (real name unknown)
"Moth" (real name unknown)
"Valiant" (real name unknown; often mistaken as Eunchae, Myron's personal nurse and angel familiar)

Part 2!
-I'd like to talk about "Beyond Evil," for which you won a Baeksang award last May.
I think the truth within the story of "Beyond Evil" was conveyed well. I think we were able to express what we wanted to in a new way and deliver something fun, and it felt rewarding that that intention was conveyed.
-In the TV category, the competition for the Best Male Actor award was really fierce, but you ended up with the trophy.
I remember (when my name was called as the winner). I'm always surprised when I win an award because I never know. I was thankful and all of that.
-You worked really well together with the other actors and the production staff, though.
I have a big age difference with Yeo Jingoo-ssi, but Jingoo-ssi did a really amazing job. The script was written so that the two axes (of the main characters) stood up well, and Director Shim Nayeon was able to coordinate them well to balance them. The final product came out well because everyone worked together well. Now Kim Shinrok, who was also in "Beyond Evil," is getting a lot of attention, and she sometimes contacts me. We ask how the other is doing and want to meet up, but can't because of the pandemic. The same with Choi Daehoon, Lee Gyuhee hyung, and Choi Seung-eun-ssi. They're all busy, so even if there weren't a pandemic, I think we probably wouldn't be able to meet up. I'm unemployed now, but I'm glad they're all keeping busy. (smile)
-What does winning an award mean to the actor Shin Hakyun?
I don't put a lot of meaning on awards in my life, but if I win one, I'm grateful. It means about that much?
-It seems you'd be happier at seeing your fans happy.
I like seeing my fans happy rather than feeling myself. Actually, I was in a daze so I don't remember much about winning the award, but seeing the people around me happy makes me happy.
-I'm curious about whether the "acting god Shin Hakyun" [Shin can also mean "god."] pays attention to ratings.
The rating are numbers, so it's not like I don't pay attention. But it's better if only 10 peole watch and those 10 people are satisfied. I'm greedy for that kind of ratings. Rather than making something that attracts a majority, I'd rather make something that, even if only a minority watches, they're satisfied with it. I want to do projects that satisfy the viewer. It's by doing that that I can work hard and feel rewarded and enjoy making those projects. I think that's the kind of greedy that I am.
-There's not a lot of information about your next project, "Yonder."
I went all over the country filming "Yonder" - Jeolla-do, Gyeongsang-do, Chungcheong-do, Kangwon-do, and Seoul. I play a husband who's lost his wife, but he gets an email from his late wife and the story is of him going to find his wife through that email. It's set in the near future. It's a sci-fi mystery, but it's a realistic story that anyone might experience one day. It's a story that makes you think about life and death. Though I played a man who was meeting his late wife, I think it's relevant to how everyone's talking about the metaverse these days.
-Did you already know the director, Lee Junik?
We'd never worked together on a project, but we're close. I did the movie "The Spy" when I was in my 20s, and Director Lee Junik was the boss of the film company Cineworld. He didn't direct me then, but after long time, we met again as director and actor.
-It's Director Lee Junik's first TV drama and it's an unfamiliar genre.
I like trying new things. I connect to new stories. I'm always up for trying something new, whatever it is and with whomever. I haven't seen all of the final product (of "Yonder") but I feel confident that you'll be able to see a new kind of project of Director Lee Junik's. It's so full of an effort to make something new that if not for the director's name on it, you'd think, "Is this Director Lee Junik?"
-What kind of person is Director Lee Junik?
He's a person who really loves his work. He loves the filming sites, he loves people; he's the kind of person who's serious and always gives his all at every moment. I guess everyone is, but he's really really passionate on site. I learned a lot through the opportunity to work with him this time. He's also pleasant and good at talking.
-What should people focus on when "Yonder" debuts and they watch it?
I'd say the sincerity of the story and the novelty that it tries to express. Those are the things that make it an attractive project. It's set in the future, but feels like a current story, and it's a new sort of sci-fi.
-With "Yonder," you're having a stab at an OTT platform (TVING) for the first time.
I didn't think there was much difference between them (OTT and traditional platforms). The working environment is the same as with any movie. The difference versus other dramas is that you can make something 100% in advance. With "Yonder," it felt a bit like filming a movie with a slightly long running time. It was an atmosphere in which we were able to film freely and were able to tell a new story in a new way, and spread out as much as we liked.
-Still, I imagine you must feel a little pressure on your shoulders since it's your first try.
My shoulders? (smile) I just did the same as I always do. It's not like I could do differently. You have to do it the way you always do. No matter the field or the type of media, I just do my best. I just make the product convey the story we want to convey.
