Loghain cursed his luck, not for the first time this morning, and likely not for the last. The Seneschal of Vigil’s Keep had cornered him, once again, to simultaneously complain about his presence there and ask for assistance in its running. His presence there was, apparently, a poor reflection politically on Warden Commander Amell, while also of great help.

The man had a point, of course. A known maleficar, associating with a publicly vilified traitor to the throne was a poor look, especially with his Commander's.... fraught relationship with Loghain's new son-in-law. And with reassignment from Weisshaupt due any day, Loghain ought to be spending his time at the compound in Denerim, with Anora. Killi- Warden-Commander Amell -would have problems enough without his presence to complicate things. There had already been one assassination attempt. He did not wish to be the cause of another.

And yet he remained, pacing around the boundaries of Amell's life like a hopeless mongrel begging for scraps. Pathetic.

It had been week, now, of glances, and of passing too close for comfort and yet still too far. Until last night's feasting, too much wine and merriment for anyone's sake, even before Amell had brought out the cask of West Hill brandy.

Maker, he was an old fool. Glances had become a hand on an arm, an arm around a shoulder had become, somehow, drunken fumblings in his sparse quarters.

He wished he could remember it more than as a blurry, frantic need. He wanted to commit the whole night to memory, to page, yet it was lost to him almost completely, other than the knowledge that it had happened. How cruel a twist of Fate, to grant him his secret, loathsome wish, yet deny his memory.

He'd awoken late, alone and miserably hungover, and stumbled through bathing and dressing in a miasma of self-loathing. He'd been accosted in the hall by Varel before he'd even made it to the great hall for breakfast.

And in a final, hateful twist of Fate's knife, Varel's various complaints and requests had yet to end, despite the distinct sounds of Amell and Mistress Woolsey approaching from breakfast, deep in discussion about some detail of the arling. Loghain turned towards them, despite himself, and immediately regretted it.

Even clearly exhausted and hungover, Killian was... Maker, he was beautiful. Captivating, in the same way Maric had been, though near his opposite in looks. An Archdemon could have fallen through the Vigil in that moment, and Loghain would have scarce noticed.

Finally, he forced himself to look away, turning back to Varel instead of staring at Amell. He stepped a little to the side to make space for them to pass, and as he did, he felt something brush his waist and side, the oddly familiar tug of magic arcing to kiss flesh through his tunic. Amell's hand, cupping his hip ever so briefly. The gentle caress was so outside of anything he'd expected after waking alone the way he had, and in its unexpectedness, he flinched away.

The tingling of residual magic on his skin drained him of his wits for precious moments, and by the time he had regained himself, Killian was turning the corner. Loghain craned his neck just in time to catch Amell's green, green eyes staring at him in - hurt?

Void take his soul, what had he done?

so much dragon age

i played inquisition and then fell in love with thedas so i... played origins and am in progress through dragon age 2... origins was rly hard i almost gave up multiple times. it didn’t help that the warden emotes not even once in the whole game bc it’s hard to connect to a character that has no facial expressions! (until i headcanon’d her into a super stoic like jotaro who holds all their thoughts and feelings inside)

of course i made up some story where there’s wardens from every origin that survive so there’s some of them here (sorry cousland & mahariel)

   Um!! lets see — I always characterized Eira as being born the same year Revka’s first child is taken to the circle and a year earlier than Astride’s death. The family is still in Kirkwall and it’s a few years before the father moves out the remaining four children. Before she was taken, she got along very well with most of her siblings, but she was often sectored off away from from her ‘father’ by Revka. Most of her memories are hazy, considering she was only six when she came to Ferelden, and all of them involve her mother in some way or another. Though, she often latched on to one of her brothers too, and has grown fond of what she can remember of him.    And it’s because the eldest sister was in the Gallows that she couldn’t stay in Kirkwall.

      She did receive letters from her family, mostly from her mother, in the near beginning, in very simple words a child could read and understand so there would always be a response in return. Sometimes little tokens of home found their way in the messages, a spare necklace or signet ring with the two falcons engraved within it. Although, every letter delivered was read and searched, most tokens confiscated by Irving before Eira ever got her hands on them, and it became apparent Revka might have been giving her belongings to all her children before suspiciously disappearing.  Once she got a letter from the Gallows, written by her older sister, detailing how she wished for the chance to meet her one day. But as Lord Fausten Amell’s money and power dwindled and left the family bankrupt, no templars could be bribed to deliver such letters to her or from her, and so somewhere down the line she stopped sending them. The Amells were no longer nobles to the outside world and therefore had no longer special privileges in the Circle.      Once she takes Amaranthine as Arlessa, she does attempt to look into the fates of her siblings, and the first record she stumbles across is that her sister in the Gallows was killed years before the blight, with the Amell estate going to a section of her family she’s never heard about by the name of Hawke. The second eldest ended up in Starkhaven, but was presumably was made tranquil after failing her harrowing. The urge to know what happened to the rest of them dies there, and she stops her search. Her older brother, Killian Amell, was sent to Ostwick, until escaping before his Harrowing and becoming an apostate while working for the mage collective. She does get to meet him, sometime during the Mage rebellion, but found his motivations and methods too extreme; their personalities clashed and they ended up parting ways on hostile terms.      She receives one more letter from her mother before inquisition begins, it’s vague and to the point, congratulating her work in Ferelden as a grey warden, but gives her no clue about her location. Leliana offers to find her, but she refuses—not after so long.
