let’s kill hitler sucks absolute balls but you have to admit that freshly regenerated batshit insane teenage murderer river song going “oh, i was just on my way to a gay rromani bar mitzvah for the disabled when i suddenly thought, gosh, the third reich’s a bit rubbish, i think i’ll kill the fuhrer” to a bunch of nazi guards, promptly taking 25 bullets and shaking them off like she’s in a perfume commercial is one of the hardest sequences in the entire show. you can almost see ‘written and directed by quentin tarantino’

like her name is mirri MAZ DUUR. MAESTER. MIRRI THE MAESTER. not only did she match marwyn’s freak enough that he taught her about anatomy, but her own people either started calling her “mirri the maester” or she started calling herself that and it stuck. she traveled, potentially on her own, all the way from lhazar to asshai and back again, which feels like an incredible feat given the sheer amount of slavers she’d have to get past. and in the end despite her power she brought all that knowledge back home to her tiny village to help her people!!

doctor who should never ever deal with the actual nazis. it has enough obvious nazi parallels (including its most iconic villains!) that it's totally reduntant thematically and also it begs all the obvious questions that dealing with any real-world historical tragedy would in a way that it would be uniquely tasteless to answer with the show's standard sci-fi bullshit about how changing history will explode the world or whatever. and it doesn't help that the two times the show has decided to tackle them anyway have also been flagrantly tacky and in poor taste on top of that

call me an idealist a liberal whatever but I absolutely cannot wrap my head around full throatedly proclaiming the good of the Romanov children being executed like.. on the scale of things I don’t want to give undue weight to them over the masses that starved and died under the Romanov dynasty and I can accept it as a flawed choice made by bolsheviks under siege and facing a resurgence of Russian monarchy, like so many other historical evils, one given so much weight only because of anticommunism. But I don’t think I’ll ever be able to view a state murdering children as not evil 🤷

These fanon Tim Drake takes/fanfictions that paint him as the ultimate victim during the Morrrison era were always annoying, but if you're looking for a character to write fix it fanfictions about because they got abandoned by their family when they went through a lot of losses and lost themselves in the process, ran away from everything and only had the batfamily try to bring them back home ages after they had already run away and only after first blaming the kid and then not prioritizing bringing that kid back, then Damian from 2018 to 2020 is right there?

Ppl who say charles is "a piece of shit" doesn't understand that 1: characters can have NUANCE and 2: these comics have a million different writers for each run with varying degrees of quality for each character and storyline. Some writers fuck charles up bc they dont like him/dont know how to write him. And i dont count those characterizations of Charles bc the "flaws" they gave him are in bad faith interpretation of the character. Now i love me some hypocritical asshole charles but thats not the point of his character, which is that he always struggles with trying to have a peaceful outcome which sometimes in order to get that, you have to be a manipulative asshole to bring the peace. Doesn't mean you have to like doing it either (subconsciously is a different story for a different time)

its just especially Interesting with charles because it's not as if Every Other Character is perfect and saintly and has never made a mistake. like i think everyone understands these characters have nuance and they'll never act 100% in the right, its only really with charles that i see people blow up his mistakes (and sometimes misinterpret his actions if not outright make up Bad Things hes done) and act as if he's ONLY ever done wrong and EVERY action he's done was done with evil or misguided intentions

a plotline that has been on my mind lately is like. the whole why would they go through all the training and brainwashing of river to kill the doctor if they'd just control her through a spacesuit? well, a foe as strong and unmoving as the doctor, not just any assassination attempt would work. "the man of peace who understands every kind of warfare, except, perhaps, the cruellest" because he would never die from a gun or a knife or an explosion, he'd find a way out like he always does. they found a way to kill him in the only way he could be killed: if he let himself be killed. and the only way to do that, to truly create a fixed point would be to create something, someone that would be worth it. and river song would always be worth it to him
