kidou doesnt even acknowledge haruna when he meets with her and endou. sorry thats a little insane to me how kidou went no contact with haruna AGAIN with no explanation AGAIN and her feelings on that when he suddenly gets back in contact but only for endou are nottt explored. maybe they are later and i just forgot (but well thats the point of a rewatch i suppose) and ill be happy 2 be wrong but as it stands its not promising 😭

Been looking at kidou incantations (for reasons), and I got really fascinated with this one, which Rukia starts to cast during the Grand Fisher fight.

In the manga, Ichigo cuts her off before she can finish casting it, so we don't actually know the name of the kidou or what it's supposed to do. In the anime, this chant shows up twice. The first time, it's in the same place, but Rukia finishes casting it: it's identified as Bakudou #9: Geki, and it paralyzes an enemy. However, I guess maybe they forgot they did this, because Momo casts it again during the Beast Swords Arc, where it is still Bakudou #9, but now it's identified as Hourin, which, despite translating to "Disintigrating Circle" seems functionally identical to everyone's old friend Hainawa.

That's not the point I am stuck on, though, which is, who, or what does "Rondanini" refer to??

I did a bunch of googling, and the two most likely sources I could find are:

The Palazzo Rondanini, a palace built in 1764 to house the art collection of Marquis Giuseppe Rondinini. Several famous works of art are named for this, most notably Michaelangelo's Pieta Rondanini and the Medusa Rondanini.

The Vigna Randanini, which are ancient Jewish catacombs located in Rome. These contain a lot of animal decorations, including dogs, but as far as I could find, there aren't any that are particularly notable that Kubo might have drawn inspiration from. I realize the spelling is off, but the kidou chant spells the word phonetically, so I think it's within the bounds of possibility.

We know that Kubo is into art history and architecture, given that he named all the Espada after architects, so it's certainly possible that he pulled the name out of one of these two places. Neither of them seem to have any particularly mystical or spooky associations, but I wouldn't put it past Kubo to just use the name because he thought it sounded cool.

Anyway, I am distinctly not well educated in art history or the classics, so if anyone has more insight into this, I would love to hear it!
