Dancing in the dark

I thought I'd posted this here. Apparently I was mistaken!

Got this idea recently. Heard "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran on the radio with the line "Dancing in the dark, you between my arms" and immediatly thought "write Eddie and Venom dancing"

It was a pretty normal day, as one could have sharing a body with an alien. Eddie was in his old apartment, after the fall of the Life foundation he figured it would be best to move out. Carlton Drake's men trashed the place, and he really didn't want to deal with his asshole neighbor anymore.

He had music playing on his phone as he put his sparing possessions in boxes. He was in a pleasant mood, since things were finally going well for him. He and Anne were talking again, and he found a pleasant friendship in Dan. Plus, he got his old job back once the police and FBI dug into Drakes company. He really couldn't be happier.

He hummed along to the music coming from the radio app on his phone, and found himself dancing.

EDDIE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Eddie startled for just a slight moment at his symbiote's question. He almost had forgotten he was there, in his head. "Oh, I was dancing."

DANCING?

Eddie nodded and then felt the strange experience as Venom searched thru his mind to try to find the answer to what exactly dancing was.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF DANCING?

Eddie shrugged. "It's just something humans do for fun. Usually with a partner, but you can dance alone too. "

YOU USED TO DANCE WITH ANNIE?

Eddie sighed, taking a drink of ice water. "Not really. She wasn't much for dancing. Not like how I did. But then again, I grew up with music classes."

There was a short silence as Venom processed this.

CAN WE DANCE, EDDIE?

His question caught him off guard. "I... Guess? Not sure how we would do that tho."

As if to answer his question, Venom formed a body from the waist up. It was close to his size. It was almost disconcerting. Eddie let out a quiet huh.

"That should work. Especially since you don't have feet that I would accidentally step on."

Eddie put a slow song on his phone, an easy enough one to show Venom a slow dance. After that, he draped one of his arms over his shoulder and took the other in his own. Placing his free hand on what constituted as Venom's waist, he started moving with the music. It was actually pretty nice as they swayed in time. It was actually quite pleasant, sharing this moment. He was almost disappointed they were joined at the hips because he couldn't show Venom a spin. Instead he went with a dip. He dipped Venom, and seemed almost lost in the moment. The sun peeking thru the window, a rare moment in itself considering the apartment faced the next door building, reflecting in Venom's pearly eyes. Eddie rarely had the chance to look at them outside of mirror reflections. They captured the sunlight's colors, causing shimmering rainbow reflections in their smooth surface.

Eddie was lost in the moment, at how almost gentle Venom's face was, having to go with more natural teeth vs the razer sharp fangs. His face was not quite human but not ugly in the slightest. Eddie barely registered Venom's grin as he must have heard his wandering mind. It was funny that it should have occurred to him that Venom could change the appearance of his body like that, how else would he have managed to kiss him that night in the forest without hurting him?

Eddie stood back up out of the dip as the song ended, rubbing at his face.

"EDDIE WAS THINKING OF OUR KISS?"

Eddie averted his eyes, clearing his throat. He reached for the glass of water to avoid the question, which, when you shared a mind with the asker, wasn't going to last long.

"Yeah. Just..uh...just thinking how you made those dangerous head-biter's non-existent. Cuz I ...I don't remember them existing during that. That's all." Why was he suddenly nervous?

Venom's grin widened. "WE DIDN'T WANT TO HURT EDDIE WHEN WE CAME BACK."

"So... That WAS your idea? I thought...I thought Anne was just sayin that."

"WE SAW IT IN ANNIE'S MEMORIES AND WANTED TO TRY IT. TRANSFERENCE REQUIRED SKIN TO SKIN CONTACT, SO WE WANTED TO TRY THE KISS."

Eddie's mouth felt dry again and it wasn't because of being thirsty.

"DO YOU WISH TO KISS AGAIN? WE WOULD NOT BE AGAINST IT."

Eddie couldn't form a response for a full minute. He would be lying if it hadn't crossed his mind before, but this was the first time Venom offered. "I..I..I mean, if you want to. I don't want my mind to be..."

Venom placed his hand over Eddie's mouth. "WE WANT WHAT EDDIE WANTS."

Eddie nodded. Why not? It certainly wouldn't be the strangest thing he ever did since bonding with the alien.

He cupped Venom's face, wondering the best way to do this. He gently pressed his lips on Venom's, marveling at their texture. They were soft and actually warm. The tactile feedback from the pressure was mind boggling, Venom returned each ministration in turn. When Eddie explored the alien mouth he found that the teeth were gone but the tongue was still there. The texture was rough but not dangerous. This kiss wasn't, in all honesty, as firey as the one in the forest, but this time there was no urgency behind it. It was just them, safe from danger. Safe from death. Safe with each other. Almost too soon, the kiss was over. Eddie found himself staring into Venom's eyes. He never realized just how beautiful the color white could be.

WE ENJOYED THE KISS EDDIE.

Eddie blinked realizing the voice was more in his head. Only then noticing that Venom had withdrawn into his body save for his head. "Yeah. That was nice."

WE WOULD NOT BE AGAINST MORE KISSES.

Eddie felt his face turn red. To be honest, neither would he. He cleared his throat again. "So, uh....that was a slow dance. Humans have a lot of other kinds. I can show you them if you want?"

YES, WE WOULD LIKE THAT.

Eddie spent the rest of the afternoon showing Venom various dances. The packing can wait.

How does “#KickCates” sound for a tag to use on posts protesting the current run? I like the alliteration but I want to make sure it’s clear enough that it means to fire him. Maybe #SackCates?

Heart of a Rebel

Eddie gets sick, Venom calls a Doctor

....

.. So hot. Head hurt. Hard to breathe. It was so hot! Why??

"Eddie? Eddie can you hear me?"

Eddie opened his eyes blearily to the familiar voice."Dan? What.... What are you doing here?" He rolled over to a coughing fit. His throat was so dry! He felt a comforting hand lay on his back. Once the cough settled, Dan handed him a glass of cool water, which he drank greedily.

"Careful, I don't want a random fit to cause you to inhale that water." Dan gave his best no-nonsense doctor voice. Eddie nodded, placing the glass on his bedside table and laying back down on his pillows. "And to answer your question, well... I received a text from what I THOUGHT was you, but it turned out you had been keeping a secret."

"Huh? " In his fevered stupor he was having a little difficulty following. Luckily he received the missing answer.

SORRY EDDIE. WE WERE WORRIED.

"V...? What?" Eddie rolled over as another coughing fit laid him out. He tried to suppress the weak whimper from his over used ab muscles.

Venom formed a small head connected at Eddie's shoulder.

YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE WAS TOO HIGH AND WE COULD NOT GET IT TO STAY DOWN.

Eddie looked up at the symbiote wondering why he decided to form two heads. "So you called Dan?"

DAN IS A DOCTOR AND YOU TRUST HIM. WE DID NOT WANT YOU TO DIE!

Dan chuckled softly as he checked Eddie's vitals. "Imagine my surprise that not only were you NOT the one who texted me about a medical emergency, but the one who did was the same alien creature who tried to kill me a few months ago."

WE APOLOGIZED FOR THAT!

Dan gave him a smirk. "Actually, YOU didn't. Eddie apologized on your behalf." He made a note on his notepad.

OH. WELL WE ARE SORRY WE TRIED TO KILL YOU. YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO EDDIE AND ANNIE. WE NO LONGER WANT YOU DEAD.

Dan shook his head, but he was smiling. "Thanks, uh...."

"Venom." Eddie mumbled.

"There's one more thing I'd like to check for Eddie. Can you sit up?"

"Sure." Eddie sat up, which exacerbated his headache. Venom gave a concerned chirping sound and brushed gently against his forehead. It felt rather soothing.

"I'd like to listen to your lungs, just to make sure there's no pneumonia." Dan placed his stethoscope on his back and started. "What the...!" Before realizing what he was hearing. "Oh, is that you?"

Venom looked over at the doctor.

YOU CAN HEAR US WITH THAT TOOL?

"Yeah. It caught me off guard. Is there any way you can, uh...not move so I can hear Eddie's lungs?" Dan felt almost awkward asking the alien that. He wondered if it was rude?

WE CAN TRY.

Venom wrapped himself around Eddie for the most part, except his upper torso. Eddie sighed in comfort, giving a soft smile thru half lidded eyes. Dan tried listening to Eddie's lungs again, nodding in satisfaction.

"Thank you. Eddie, do you think you can try giving me a deep breath?"

Eddie frowned and started to, only to get caught up in another fit. Venom frowned and gave a small confused sound.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIM? HE KEEPS HAVING THIS DIFFICULTY IN BREATHING AND HIS TEMPERATURE IS WRONG!

Dan took the stethoscope out of his ears, winging them around his neck. "Well as far as I can tell, he has a bad cold.

BUT HE IS HOT! NOT COLD!

Eddie giggled at the symbiotes confusion as Dan shook his head.

"No, a cold is a human illness. There's a bug going around and it shouldn't keep him down too long. I..." He trailed off as Eddie leaned his head on his shoulder.

"Dan's the greatest!" Eddie's words were slurred. "So smart and so kind. Better than I can ever be!"

Dan gave a soft smile down at Eddie. "You're great too Eddie. Not everyone has the courage to go thru what you have in the past year."

Eddie gave a small hum, and Dan helped lay him back down, watching in curiousity as Venom oozed back into Eddie.

"You know I'm going to have to tell Anne about Venom, right Eddie?" Dan started to sit up.

Eddie whined, latching his arms around Dan's neck. "Tha's not fair."

Dan couldn't help but chuckle, reaching behind his neck to loose the arms. "Unfortunately sometimes life isn't fair. And you know Anne doesn't like secrets."

Eddie sighed. "Yeah, yeah. When you're right, your right." He let go of Dan's neck, but before dropping them, he lingered on his face; gently cupping it. He had a hard time thinking straight. "Damn you're so handsome. I love your eyes." He mumbled.

Dan blinked not sure if he had heard right. He wondered if Eddie meant to keep that thought to himself. He decided to pretend he didn't hear it, to save Eddie the potential embarrassment. Clearing his throat, he gently lay Eddie's hand on his chest. "Um, right Venom? Just make sure Eddie drinks plenty of fluids. Water and warm tea with some honey preferred. Try not to force him to eat too much."

WE NEED TO EAT, OURSELVES THO!

"Oh. Right...uh... What.... What do you normally eat? Most meats wouldn't sit well on his stomach."

ARE TATER-TOTS AND CHOCOLATE OK TO EAT?

Dan thought for a moment... "It should be ok, don't eat too fast or too much. And keep me posted. This should clear up in a few days."

WE THANK YOU, DAN LEWIS. AGAIN WE ARE GLAD WE DIDN'T ACTUALLY KILL YOU!

Dan wasnt too sure about the compliment, but he let it slide for now. He gathered his things and bid the pair good night. Maybe he should just wait untill Eddie was well enough to reveal his secret himself?

How in the hell did Anne know it was Eddie's??? Like seriously???? I just...

Let's go off what a normal mind set of a person in Anne's shoes.

You start missing periods. Why? You go to the gynecologist who tells you CONGRATS YOU'RE PREGNANT!

Shes gotta be like... BUT WHO? HOW???

She decides to do the right thing and keep the immaculatly conceived Baby till birth.

Now... Without a father to test, how did she just KNOW the child was Eddie's? Because it had blue eyes and blond hair? And just HOW did she know the symbiote was the one who inseminated her??

AND WHY THE FUCK DOES SHE TAKE HIM TO A KNOWN CHILD ABUSER!?!??

Something has been bothering me about the latest preview for the upcoming Funeral Pyre comic, and no, it’s not just the premise of Andi fighting for her life against Carnage.

It’s that Andi’s characterization just feels... off.

Like, okay, so no one has ever really managed to nail down Andi’s character, but it seems like no one seems to get her since Space Knight. This hurts here because this isn’t just any other writer’s handiwork here, this is Bunn, the guy who came up with Andi.

What I’m talking about is how Andi seems to have inherited Eddie’s old ‘Symbiotes are the Devil’ mentality.

Ever since Venom Inc., it seems no one can make sense of Andi. In Inc. she goes from trying to get the Mania symbiote back from Fuckface McEdgelord, to not even trying to get it back at all.

But now, in this preview, we’ve got Andi having nightmares about being attacked by the Mania symbiote, and how she’s trying to move on but it’s ‘always going to be a part of her she can’t escape!’, and how she refers to being bonded to a symbiote as ‘possessed’ by it.

She even trashes on Flash a little bit, of course, we don’t have the whole story just yet, so we don’t know if the barb of ‘Flash sucked at being a super hero’ bit leads into her complementing him.

The bit about the symbiote just makes no sense to me, especially since all of this could be used to describe her feelings about the Hellmark, which makes more sense. Andi and Mania both feared the Hellmark, not the other way around.

I don’t know if this is Bunn’s choice, or if this is Marvel Editors meddling with Bunn again (which happens a LOT), or if this is Cates’ handiwork because he wants Bunn to conform to whatever story he’s trying to tell with Absolute Carnage.

It’s especially weird that Andi has this hate-on for symbiotes now because the event seems to imply she will get Mania back, somehow (either through the codex or via pulling her symbiote out of Carnage’s guts).

I’m excited for Andi to be back but for the love of God Marvel, quit trashing on her and Flash!

I get that people don't like Donny Cates' run of Venom (hell I don't like it either).

But if you're going to say Costa did a better job by comparison, simply because he wrote 'symbrock' (which wasn't even a thing at the time and people acknowledged as creepy and weird). Basing everything solely on what people took away from that trash movie. I'm sorry but, no.

Costa's run was arguably just as bad if not worse. The character writing was non-existent and people pretty much despised it at first because of garbage like Lee Price. Worse than that, he threw a wrench into so much of Flash and Venom's character growth to pander to people's Eddie Boner that it was honestly disgusting.

Not to mention what he and Slott DID to Andi Benton.

Sleeper is a maniac, not your precious symbrock baby.

Eddie and Venom are not a couple, stop romanticizing what is basically an abusive relationship (I'm not sure which is Worse, this ship or the amount of tentacle porn symbiotes get on a Google search).

Mike Costa is a known douchebag to any of his fans, just like Cates.

Everything from 2016 onwards for Venom has been crap, seriously. Go and read Venom 2011, a MUCH better run. Or go read Lethal Protector.

Leave the movie and all the comics from 2016 onwards in the garbage.

Venom has a bad dream, Eddie comforts him

Cold. Hungry. Why do they continue to starve us! We need food

Fear. Everyone is afraid. They do not understand why. Why is this voice in their head begging for food.

So hungry. Don't want to eat but..... Don't have a choice.

Must survive.

Have to. Make it painless. Don't scare them any more than they are.

Flashes. Freedom. Are they free? This host.... This host maybe they can understand. They don't taste of fear. Their name... What...

EDDIE.

Some fear.

But... So hungry. Must eat something.

He begs for food. Doesn't Eddie understand. No.

Flashes. Hot. So hot. Why? Don't humans need this hotter temperature? He's reacting bad.

FOOD!

"Your killing him!"

NO! CANT BE! NOT TRUE....

Fear. No. Please do not fear us! We can fix!

Anger.... Hatred. Always ends in hate. Own kind hates us. Now Eddie. We hurt Eddie. We did not mean.

Dying. Fear. Own fear. Please don't hate us!

"VEE!!" Eddie sat with a start, head swimming from the nightmare. He felt over heated. "Venom!? It's ok. I'm here."

EDDIE?

Eddie's breath cought at the timidness in Venom's voice. "V... That nightmare... That was you?"

The symbiote was silent for a time.

ITS... NOTHING EDDIE.

But Eddie shook his head. "That's not nothing V. I know there's more to it. Can you come out?"

Venom was tired, but he conceded.

VERY WELL, EDDIE.

Venom formed as a small snake like head from Eddie's chest. Eddie placed his hands on either side of his.

"Listen bud, I don't know what all that nightmare was about. But I got a good glimpse. You know I don't hate you, right?"

... YES. OF COURSE.

Eddie noted the hesitation and shook his head, forcing Venom to make eye contact with him. "There's no need for any doubts, bud. I don't hate you in the slightest. Even when you bug the crap out of me."

WE WERE KILLING YOU. HOW CAN YOU.....

Eddie shook his head. He still felt feverish from the shared nightmare. "Listen, I was mad at you for that, but looking back I don't think you meant any harm by it. Besides, we're better now right?"

YES.

"Good. Now let's get back to sleep, huh? I'm exhausted."

OK EDDIE.

Eddie laid back down, still holding Venom close to his chest. His head was swimming from his tiredness, so hopefully they'll get back to sleep quick.

"Night, V"

So Stegman confirmed Mania is off Price (Can’t say for sure since he’s blocked me on twitter, I only heard this from a friend).

Well Marvel, I’m waiting for the symbiote to go back to its rightful partner!

I was high on Cates when he first started. I liked the horror bent he brought…but the changes he keeps making, and the nose dive into grimdark is just…yikes. The stuff with Anne is just too much. I’m half expecting to see him have Carnage dig up Flash and rip his spine out.

I’ve had friends theorize about how Flash could come back in this story, and be the key part in putting Carnage/Knull down. but then I’m reminded about how Cates has made it clear he wants Flash to stay perma-dead.

While I was initially sympathetic to Cates when the symbrockers started sending him death threats, my well of sympathies dried up after what he did to Anne. In just a few issues, Cates has managed to lose a ton of credibility, and respect, and has proven he can’t write women unless he’s doing something horrible to them.

Like, I just want this and the 2016 run just scrapped and for things to go back to the way they were in Space Knight.

lowkey talked to Mr. Cates and he mentioned Andis has a role in his main book, supposedly after. Also who knows you may teamed up with Grandpa Eddie and Uncle Mac.

He’s been saying that since the start. THat was why I was initially so enthusiastic for his run, after the dumpster fire that was Costa’s 2016 series that should have never happened with a paper thin Eddie, and Fuckface McEdgelord.

While I’m hopeful Cullen Bunn won’t kill Andi off and she survives her encounter with Carnage, it’s pretty clear Marvel has no interest in Andi, at all, unless she can be used as a damsel or a punching bag. Her whole role in Venom Inc was to just get beaten up and make Lee Price look like an actual threat.

If Andi survives, yes, I’d be enthusiastic to see her have a bigger role in comics, maybe even leave enough of an impact that Marvel will put her in another title. But at the same time, considering Cates’ track record when it comes to writing women in Venom;

He retconned Eddie’s sister out of existence by claiming Venom altered Eddie’s memory to make him THINK he had a sister.

He brought Scorn back and made her the creator of a cult to bring back Carnage, despite Scorn HATING Carnage and Cletus with a passion. He also followed this up by having Scorn get cannibalized by Carnage.

And most recently, he implied the Venom symbiote impregnated Anne Weying when she became She-Venom, aka, Venom raped Anne, and Cates has DEFENDED this plot point.

I’ll be honest, I don’t want Cates anywhere NEAR Andi, because God only knows what kind of messed up shit he’d make her do.
