A FENCE - Woo Wonjae
(Requested: Woo wonjae fluff/angst where he’s been ignoring you and hanging out with other girls for a while, happy ending :) please and thank you 🙏 😊)
Warnings: Angst with eventual happy ending
"Please don't hate me, I can't lie."
At first, things between you and Wonjae were just the same as any other couple in the blooming stages of love, he was almost perfect in your eyes and in his you could do no wrong. As time passed by and you grew closer, throughout the years together, it became more and more obvious that both of you had your own flaws, but you learned to love them and take each other as you were.
You and Wonjae were steadily reaching five years together and many people had questioned how you were both still going strong when your schedules never seemed to match up and you were both very different people. You knew it could be hard to believe, what with Wonjae winning SMTM and becoming an integral member of AOMG he was always busy and often away on work. But you had always been right there with him through his and his lows.
You made time for each other, that was your secret. No matter how busy both of you got, you made sure to take time out and check up on each other, sit together and eat, cuddle up on the sofa of your shared apartment, sleep in each other’s arms at night. It was the little things that mattered the most to you.
Wonjae on the outside could often seem cold, but you knew how he truly was. He cared a lot and it was evident in his actions and his lyrics that there was more to him that what you could see on the surface.
However, recently, things hadn’t seemed right between you and Wonjae. He never seemed to want to stay in the house anymore and if he wasn’t holed up in his studio, he was at one club or another. In the evening, you’d prepare dinner for him but it was rare that he’d come home in time to eat it hot and you would end up packing it away and into the fridge. At night, his side of the bed felt colder than ever and in your chest a rock sat as you swallowed down the lump in your thoat. You couldn’t understand where things were going wrong. Were you really growing apart?
It wasn’t as though you had stopped talking to each other, whenever you phoned to ask where he was, he would answer and open-heartedly tell you. Often he would say he was at the studio and you would talk to him for a little bit before he had to go back to work or he was promoting at some club and you could hear the thump of the music and the cooing of the girls that were no doubt around him and the rest of the boys.
You found it strange. If he was cheating on you or wanted to leave you – you knew he would tell you. You had asked him if he was once before, at the beginning of your relationship when things had seemed rough, he had sat you down and explained to you that he would never string you along and that if he ever wanted to leave you, he would do just that. There would be no unfaithfulness and no dishonesty between you. That was just the kind of man he was. He didn’t shy away from the hard facts and he valued honesty above anything else.
Back in the day, you would go to the studio with him but soon after, you both realised that having you there was too much of a distraction for Wonjae and for the rest of the AOMG family. They enjoyed having you around far too much and it was always a struggle to get them to work properly if you were in the room. The studio became a no-go zone and you respected that, you would rather see him at home and see the rest of the AOMG family outside of the work environment where they could properly let loose.
When you had asked Wonjae why he was always out at night promoting, he had told you that he had made friends with some of Hoody’s girlfriends and they had wanted to experience the VIP clubbing lifestyle and he had obliged as Hoody was the same as you, neither of you too fond of the vibes of the clubs the AOMG boys often went to. He had explained that since he was taking Hoody’s friends to the club, Jay had got him slots to perform there too, it would only boost his popularity and where was the harm in that?
You understood at first and had let it go, but too many nights had gone by without him by your side and now you had big news to tell him. For a few weeks now, you had been feeling off. You had always been in-tune with your body and something had felt different to you recently. You had gone to the doctor to find out what the problem was, and they had told you what you had suspected. You were pregnant. You and Wonjae were going to be parents.
You wanted to tell him more than anything else, but he was so busy now and seemingly never around anymore. You desperately needed to talk to him about how you were feeling and make it clear that there was a limit to the amount of loneliness you could handle at the moment. The vulnerability you felt was new and scary and you needed Wonjae to reassure you that everything would be alright. You had called him earlier that morning and asked him to come home for the evening, he had said that he was only going to be focusing on the studio that night but he would come home. The stress and anxiety in your voice worried him and he wracked his brain, trying to remember the last time he had properly held you in his arms.
That night, once again Wonjae didn’t arrive home in time for dinner and so you went to bed by yourself, quietly wrapping the covers around your body and waiting for Wonjae to arrive. You knew he would, he never broke a promise. A few hours passed and he hadn’t shown up, you wouldn’t lose hope, but the stress was draining you and slowly you were beginning to fall asleep. As you were drifting off, you felt a warm body slip under the covers behind you, their arms wrapping around and pulling you close. The familiar yet almost forgotten scent of Wonjae encased you as the weariness that had once tangled around you, melted away.
“Baby, I’ve missed you.” He whispered into your neck, the deep rasp of his voice making shivers roll down your spine. His warm hands ran down the length of your back and gently caressed your waist.
“I’ve missed you too, Wonjae. You can’t keep doing this to me,” You sighed deeply, replying to him honestly as you knew he would want, “I can’t handle you being away for this long, it doesn’t feel right.”
Wonjae sighed lightly and entangled your legs together, still pressed to you from behind. “I know, I haven’t been good to you lately. I thought I could take on more work in the studio, and help Hoody out, and do more for the company and my reputation. I thought I could do it all and still have time for you and me, but it all got messed up in the process.” He leaned his head down and kissed your neck.
“Wonjae, you need to be here. I need you to be here. I need you to be the Wonjae who goes into the studio and makes me and all of AOMG proud, who goes to the club and makes his fans happy and who comes home and lets me love him at night.” You truthfully told him, you knew his work was important and you would never suggest that he put that on hold or as secondary to you, all you wanted was for him to find a better balance. You could handle him being away in the day and in the evening but in the harsh light of the morning you knew he needed somewhere better to rest his weary head and you needed to give him the support that he deserved.
You felt him smile against your skin, “I want to be that Wonjae,” he replied “That’s why I was so late tonight, I had a meeting with Hyung and with the others, we discussed how I can have a better work-life balance and came to an agreement together.” You gasped lightly, “From now on I’ll be here for you.”
You smiled lightly, that was exactly what you wanted and needed. You knew he would do it too. You breathed deeply and moved the hand that was touching your waist around further and onto your stomach, “Here for us.”
You felt Wonjae’s body tense slightly and then all of a sudden relax, a choked sound left him, and you quickly untangled your legs to face him. His hand dropping away from you. His eyes were closed and for a moment you thought your heart has ceased. Was he not happy?
Suddenly, his eyes fluttered open and the tender look in them caught your breath, he blinked slowly, tears welling up in his eyes. You laughed gently; he really was such a softie. You slowly put your hand toward him, wiping his misty eyes with your thumbs carefully.
“Here for us.” He repeated back, his hand reaching forward to gently touch your stomach once more. You nodded, putting your head onto his chest and he leant his chin on your head, holding you tightly to the crook of his neck.
“Here for us.”
