Settling it for all. Does kh2 really have the chokehold on the fandom that everyone says it does, or is that just that we kh2 fanboys are annoying as fuck.

Choose your favorite kh game. This is not necessarily the one you've played the most - for example bbs was the first one I did the platinum trophy for so ATM it has the most hours played, but its not my favorite. Play time doesn't equal favorite, the one you like the best is the favorite. choose that.

bought the kh games on sale from humblebundlea in july, and I am replaying 3d. Those boys are so gay for each other, like:

Ex 1:

Sora: We don't need to do the Mark of Mastery exam, I've proved myself and Riku can handle anything

Riku: Actually, I feel like I don't deserve to be a Keyblade Wielder

Sora: Riku... Well then, I'm in

Sora being all like "Well, I have to mentally support my bf"

Also Sora: immediately loses him and shouts out for him like a dumbass

Ex 2:

Riku: I don't trust you

Joshua: I can help you find Sora

Riku: Here's all my info, including my social security number and my credit card

Riku, honey, you're as subtle as a brick to the face

Once again I'm having thoughts about the meta of Kingdom Hearts. While there are many ways to interpret this story, as it is in all stories, there is one way I personally love most: the angle of the journey of growing up. Or put in another way, understanding and accepting your child self. It is both, really. Depending on one's journey, one might resonate more than the other. And that is what makes KH so special. No matter how old you are, KH can resonate.

It is two angles that make a greater whole. Or in the case of the story, two characters that make a greater whole: Sora and Riku.

Riku is the adult side. From the beginning, Riku felt the responsibility to "protect what matters." It is that pressure, and the fear that he wasn't strong enough that pushed him forward toward darkness. Coupled with the jealousy of Sora's freedom, brought that antagonistic side out. Eventually of course, Riku found what he was looking for, and found his dawn.

Sora on the other hand, is the child side. Full of youthful exuberance, naivety, and openness, Sora always follows his heart. But along the way, each journey slowly changes him, even in ways he doesn't realize. He just keeps going, pushing, changing, much like a child would.

In the novelization of Dream Drop Distance, there are these lines as Sora is thinking about Quasimodo:

“He thought about what it really meant to let your heart be a prison and to let it live free. I can’t imagine how painful and sad it must be to go through life with your heart locked away. You can’t follow your heart and live the way you want.”

You could say, that was Riku's perspective. I've noted before, that in DDD, Riku's sound idea plays Dearly Beloved from the get go. Whereas for Sora it doesn't until Riku's sound idea joins his. In other words, Riku has already begun to connect with his child side. While Sora, still has no idea what is going on, let alone connect with his adult side.

It is this mixture that begins to show a unique narrative. As a person grows, often the child self gets left behind.

You remember what you were like as a kid, and sometimes you wonder: where did that go? Or perhaps you had dreams, some probably ridiculous, but some not so much. Yet in growing up you left them behind as the pressures of responsibility mounted. But in all that you know one thing, you've lost something important: yourself.

It is that beautiful blend of ideas, that makes up a unique way that which to look at KH. Of course with advent of Yozora, it feels all the more likely there is something like this going on. But even without him, the narrative already supports this idea, even from the very beginning.

For me at least, it's a perspective that gets my brain, and my creative heart, going.

Why are some people in the KH fandom so depressing? For a series that is so charming and genuine some people sure seem to hate it’s guts despite claiming to be its “biggest fans”

Like why do we have to insult the writing team and Nomura constantly? Why do I hear the words “I’ve lost faith in KH” constantly? Why do I hear that KH2 was the last good game constantly?

Like it just seems like these people hate Kingdom Hearts and are made continuously miserable by its existence

I know KH3 was messy but there were reasons for that; a rushed development and having to appease old and new fans somehow. It’s far from perfect but can we not act like it “Ruined the series”? I swear I’ve literally heard this statement said about every KH game since 2

KH2 was amazing and is definitely one of the best games in the series but can we not act like it was the only good KH game? All of the games are good in their own way and provide pieces of this incredibly emotional, incredibly complex story. Stop acting like they don’t exist

I love Kingdom Hearts but damn some people in this community obviously don’t and that’s sad. Sorry for the rant I’ve just been made so very tired by all the negativity around the series and wanted to get the frustration off my chest

I love Kingdom Hearts in all it’s insane story complexities, the silly moments, the stuff that makes me cry, and the genuine way it tells it’s story. That’s what makes Kingdom Hearts we’ll Kingdom Hearts!
