Using his music as a sonic diary, British songwriter/performer Autumnboy continuously weaves unique soundscapes that tell his own story. Pulling influences from Emo music from both the modern day and the past few decades, he continues to find new and innovative ways to articulate his journey of faith and mental health. Having strong roots in the local emo music scene growing up, the 26 year old writer believes that it is imperative to share his experiences and the hope that he has found to better the lives of others in alternative subcultures in a new and unique way.
Charisma is an intimate telling of Autumnboy’s process of walking through the winding intricacies that build up faith that is Theology and Philosophy. After questioning the things that he had once believed and experienced, Charisma was birthed. The song itself deals with the deep heartache and confusion that comes with changing your worldview and having peers and loved ones not see eye to eye.
Explaining how the collaboration came to be, Autumnboy states, 'After running in certain music scenes internationally over the course of a few years. Both Jay Costlow and I crossed paths through a multitude of mutual connections. As time went on, both of us had performed together and were both integrated within similar communities within their scene, giving a perfect space for this collaborative project to come to fruition.'
Jay Costlow is from Johnstown, Pennsylvania but has spent most of her time as an adult living on the road as a touring musician singing with Kevin Schlereth and travelling with bands like Comrades and The Gaffer Project. Though it has been her recent passion to attempt playing solo.
Describing the story behind The Pruning, Jay said, "This song is inspired by my mom's history as a child experiencing abuse in all forms from her father. She lived through times that are often hard to have hope through. Finding all of this out when I was 18 caused me to have PTSD, depression and anxiety. It has been through God, therapy, friendships and time that I see hope. Before things felt so grey but now I'm seeing things in colour again. Pain still creeps in but I feel like I have some footing now that makes me thankful for the nights I've cried so hard it hurt yet I woke up. If you've experienced anything traumatizing, have patience with yourself and receive patience from others. There are beautiful colours to be seen and smiles to be had laughter to be sung."

Podcast: Mark Schlereth on what could prevent the Chiefs from going back-to-back
The three-time Super Bowl champion discusses the Chiefs’ chances at a Super Bowl repeat on today’s SB Nation NFL Show.
For the second straight year, the Kansas City Chiefs have rampaged through the regular season and are in perfect position to make a return trip to the Super Bowl. Non-Chiefs fans around the league are surely looking for any reason a repeat won’t happen. FOX analyst and three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth joined today’s SB Nation NFL Show, and may have given those fans a glimmer of hope:
“I always worry about the rust vs. rest equation. Can they run the ball? Of course they can run the ball. Do they have any desire whatsoever to run the ball? Nah, probably not. If you’re out of rhythm as an offense throwing the football, it’s very difficult to throw yourself back into rhythm when things aren’t right. The best way to get yourself back into rhythm is to line up in heavy personnel and just play a little smash mouth. Eventually everybody has to come up to defend the run and then you’ve got one-on-ones on the outside and you’re gonna make something happen. Can Kansas City do that? Absolutely. Their quarterback is a unicorn so it may not matter, but I always find it interesting, kind of the whole rhythm aspect.”
To be completely fair, Mark did say that the Chiefs have the best chance to win back-to-back titles of any team in recent memory. Still, the fact that they will have essentially taken two straight weeks off is a factor, and has hurt other great teams in the past.
Check out the entire conversation between RJ Ochoa, Mark Schlereth, and myself in the player below.
Other topics discussed in the episode:
How the Browns will be affected by not having Kevin Stefanski
What it’s like to block for a 2,000 yard rusher
Why the Texans’ stupidity may push Deshaun Watson out
Is this Philip Rivers’ final game?
Are the Saints due for another playoff upset?
Can Lamar Jackson crush the narrative that he can’t win in the playoffs?

Patriots snubbed again at the 25th Annual ESPY Awards
The 25th annual ESPY Awards were held in Los Angeles Wednesday night. The ESPY’s are the annual celebration of the previous year in the world of sports. As it relates to the NFL, the New England Patriots were up for several awards for their Championship Season.
As it turns out, they only earned an ESPY for ‘Best Game’ for their Super Bowl LI victory over the Atlanta Falcons. In addition, Edelman’s Super Bowl catch was up for ‘Best Play’ and Tom Brady’s record-breaking performance in the Super Bowl LI was up for ‘Best Championship Performance’.
AROUND COVER32
Around the NFL: Mark Schlereth joins FS1 as newest NFL analyst
What’s Trending: Chiefs hire Brett Veach, an Andy Reed favorite, as new GM
NFL Mount Rushmore: What are the greatest NFL uniforms of all-time
cover32 Debates: Julio Jones vs Rob Gronkowski; which receiver is more dominant
NFL Reaction: Is 40 the beginning of the decline for Tom Brady
However, Aaron Rodgers throw to Jared Cook beat out Edelman’s catch in the Super Bowl and Kevin Durant earned the ‘Best Championship Performance’ ESPY, beating out Brady and Clemson’s DeShaun Watson. Really?
If it were not for Odell Beckham’s catch in a meaningless game beating out Malcolm Butler’s Super Bowl winning interception for ‘Best Play’ in 2014, this would be the biggest snub in the history of the ESPY’s.
First of all, not even making a case for the Edelman catch, if the Rodgers to Cook throw was the best play of the NFL season then we should all be incredibly disappointed. Not to take anything away from it, it was a great play, but best play of the year? Julio Jones’ catch in the Super Bowl was a better play and on a bigger stage. Edelman’s improbable fingertip grab was equally as big, on a larger stage.
But alas, this is what we have come to expect from the ESPY’s. They offer some powerful moments, such as Jarrius Robertson receiving the Jimmy V Perseverance Award for his lifelong battle with health problems. But for the most part, it’s an agenda driven awards show.
Perhaps the best part of the entire show, besides Kevin Durant clearly not being able to handle a joke, was Peyton Manning. After a rough first couple minutes that had you thinking that his whole performance would be cringeworthy, Manning rebounded and was incredibly funny.

Manning made himself the butt of a few Patriots-related jokes, including the video featuring Tom Brady above. However, Julian Edelman may have had the last laugh as he threw a bit of shade Manning’s way when accepting the award for ‘Best Game’.

In the end, award shows like this are borderline meaningless. The Patriots may have walked away with just one ESPY award last night, but that’s just fine. With all the Lombardi Trophies they are carrying, there is no room for another meaningless award.

Your 2018 NFL Broadcast Teams
FOX and CBS put out a couple of press releases this week letting us know who we will have the distinction of listening to during the 2018 NFL season.
I assume a significant number of y’all probably turn the broadcast volume down and instead listen to Merrill Reese and Mike Quick on 94 WIP, but if not, here are your crews for the coming year:
FOX:
Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Erin Andrews
Kevin Burkhardt, Charles Davis and Pam Oliver
Kenny Albert, Rondé Barber and various reporters
Thom Brennaman, Chris Spielman and Shannon Spake or Peter Schrager
Chris Myers, Daryl Johnston and Laura Okmin
Dick Stockton, Mark Schlereth and Jennifer Hale
Other Play-by-Play Announcers: Sam Rosen, Dan Hellie, Brian Custer and Kevin Kugler
Other Analysts: Cris Carter, Greg Jennings, Brady Quinn and Jeff Fisher
Other Reporters: Shane Bacon, Tiki Barber, Karyn Bryant, Doug Gottlieb, Sarah Kustok and Sara Walsh.
I don’t really have any issues with Buck or Aikman. Burkhardt is pretty good. Jeff Fisher can explain what it’s like to be a 7-9 team.
Dick Stockton and Mark Schlereth didn’t have a great Eagles outing last season, continually referring to Alshon Jeffery as Alshon “Jefferies” and talking about the C.S. Lewis fantasy world of Narnia during the broadcast.
FOX also has the Thursday night games this year:
“As previously announced, Buck, Aikman, Andrews, reporter Kristina Pink and FOX NFL rules analyst Mike Pereira comprise the NFL’s Thursday Night Football presented by Bud Light broadcast team. The fivesome will call Thursday Night Football games broadcast on FOX and simulcast via NFL Network between Weeks 4-15 (excluding Thanksgiving night). The games also will be streamed on Amazon Prime and distributed in Spanish on FOX Deportes.”
It looks like the talent for “FOX NFL Sunday” is going to remain the same: Terry Bradshaw, Curt Menefee, Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson and Michael Strahan with Jay Glazer and Rob Riggle. The 11 a.m. FOX Kickoff show will be hosted by Charissa Thompson and feature Tony Gonzalez, Michael Vick, Colin Cowturd, Dave Wannstedt, Cooper Manning, and Pete Schrager.
The Eagles have 10 games on FOX this year, playing every game from week 2 to week 7 on the network, so we’re gonna get a bunch of the crews listed above.
Here are the CBS teams:
Jim Nantz/Tony Romo//Tracy Wolfson
Ian Eagle/Dan Fouts//Evan Washburn
Greg Gumbel/Trent Green/Bruce Arians//Melanie Collins
Kevin Harlan/Rich Gannon//Steve Tasker
Andrew Catalon/James Lofton
Spero Dedes/Adam Archuleta
Tom McCarthy/Steve Beuerlein
Beth Mowins/Jay Feely
Bruce Arians, huh?
Bruce Arians will be the color analyst for CBS for the Steelers' opener in Cleveland. So the Steelers' last three offensive coordinators will be in one building. #Steelers #dkps
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 22, 2018
Eagle is a pro. Nantz is okay but I always get the impression that he would rather be talking about golf. I thought Romo was at least very interesting last year in the way he identified plays pre-snap.
Nantz, Romo, and Wolfson are the top group, so they call the best game of each week. The Eagles only have one game on CBS this year, which is week 16 against the Texans.
Similar to FOX, it looks like the talent for “The NFL Today” pregame show remains mostly the same:
“This season marks THE NFL TODAY’s 51st year. Host James Brown anchors the show alongside Boomer Esiason, Bill Cowher, Phil Simms and Nate Burleson from the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City. Steratore serves as NFL rules analyst, and Jason La Canfora continues to serve as the ‘NFL Insider.'”
Burleson has been pretty good on GMFB.
CBS also gets the Super Bowl this year, which means all of the poor souls at Eyewitness News will be forced to come in on a Sunday night and assemble the PERFECT newscast, which won’t air until 90 minutes after the game. Les Moonves will follow the Super Bowl with some shitty new CBS drama, then your local news will begin at something like 11:45 p.m.
Here’s how the Birds’ schedule breaks down for TV purposes:
Ten games on FOX, one on CBS, one on ESPN (Monday Night Football), three prime time games on NBC, and the London game on the NFL Network.
I can’t imagine that flex scheduling affects the Eagles at all this year. That pair of marquee Sunday night matchups against Dallas and Los Angeles will undoubtedly be the most interesting games of those respective weekends, unless the Birds inexplicably bomb this year. We’re looking at Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels for those games, plus the home opener. The Monday night game will be called by ESPN’s new crew of Joe Tessitore, Jason Witten, Booger McFarland and Lisa Salters.

Bengals Offensive Line: Be Thankful For Your Schedule And Joe Mixon
The Bengals offensive line quality can be overlooked if the other offensive weapons can compensate for the complacency. While it is rare that a playoff contending team has a terrible line, it is possible for it to be overlooked. The Bengals find themselves mirroring the Seahawks in this situation. The team has talent all over with the exception in the line. However, the Bengals have two things going their way: drafting a stellar running back and having a soft schedule for the 2017 season.
Losing Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Zeitler in free agency has really caused issues for the offense. Andrew Whitworth is the Tom Brady of offensive linemen. Even though the tackle is thirty-five, he was still an NFL top 100 in 2015 and a three-time pro-bowler. Kevin Zeitler had built a reputation in his few years in Cincinnati as the best player on the line.
While the rest of the line remains fairly intact, it is still rather green. Many of the players have only a few years of playing experience in the Even with Andre Smith coming back to Cincinnati, the Bengals did not exactly draft starting quality linemen. Simply put, the Bengals went from top five to bottom three in line quality. Which leads to the silver lining: be thankful you have Joe Mixon.
Joe Mixon has the potential to be an explosive back that can run over opposing defensive lines. Think of the situation as Seattle with Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch. As long as Lynch was handed the ball, defenses stayed home. When play-action was called, it lead to a dagger caught by Doug Baldwin or Jermaine Kearse. The same can happen in Cincinnati. Let Mixon pound the ball, and when the defense is anticipating run, call play action to AJ Green or Brandon LaFell for your twenty or more yard gain. The mix up of play calling will help the offensive line and, hopefully, keep Dalton from being on his back.
The soft schedule that the Bengals will face this season will also help distort the impression the line will face this season. The AFC North does not have impressive defensive lines. In fact, all of the teams are in the bottom half of the league for power rankings. Furthermore, the Bengals will face only two top five defensive lines in the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings. The rest of the schedule has the line facing softer defensive fronts with an average of a 21.07 power ranking. With the Bengals averaging a rank of 30 for offensive line quality, it makes a difference.
If the Bengals are careful about their play calling on offense, the line will not be an issue. With a strong running back, mobile quarterback and weapons on the outside, the Bengals are prepared for the season. Give the line time to get acclimated, and you will see some players step up by midseason.
