Fashionably Late
Sami Zayn (platonic) x Fem!Black!Reader x Kevin Owens (platonic)
Summary: Torn between too many outfit choices, indecisive girlfriends and desperate to avoid any crazy fans discovering where you're staying, you call your best friends Sami and Kevin for a ride. The only problem? Your segment starts in 20 minutes, and includes both men, one of which (Kevin) now wants your head on a platter. Will you make it to the arena in time?

a/n: this is a total crack fic. I needed something to lighten up my life, and I hope this does the same for yours. Enjoy!

Time: 7:45 PM
Liv and Naomi’s voices rang through the room like alarms.
“No, the red dress!” Liv screamed, holding her phone up to her face, her expression as intense as if lives were at stake.
“But the silver set has that effect,” Naomi countered, looking equally convinced, throwing her hands up on screen. “You have a segment, you’ve got to kill it, girl!”
The pile of outfits on the bed was growing with every suggestion, clothes scattered around like some chaotic fashion explosion. The red dress, the silver set, heels that probably made a three-story building jealous — all of it a blur. It wasn’t even the outfits. It was the fact that neither Liv nor Naomi could pick a single option.
“They’re both stunning, you know you’ll look amazing,” Liv insisted.
“Ugh! I can’t— okay, last one. We need another outfit check,” Naomi added, still flipping through options with wild enthusiasm.
A glance at the clock on the bedside table stopped everything.
8:50 PM — Realization and Panic Mode
Silence.
SmackDown segment…9:30 PM. Location? An arena across town. You’re still at the hotel.
“OH MY GOD, IT’S ALMOST NINE!”
You let out a scream, cutting off Liv and Naomi, who are both shrieking with laughter and yelling at you to HURRY. The Facetime screen goes black as you hang up, frantically dialing Sami’s number, hoping to God he picks up.
8:50 PM
Kevin Owens is done. Beyond done. He and Sami are in the locker room, scripts laid out, getting ready to run through the segment.
They both know it’s going to be fire — this whole “Honorary Uce” angle with Sami is gold, and they’re practically buzzing with ideas. But there’s one problem: you aren't here.
You're never late. The woman shows up early for everything. You're also an absolute perfectionist about your wardrobe. So naturally, Kevin’s mind starts running wild, thinking you had some disaster or something.
Sami sighs, running a hand through his hair. “Kev, maybe she’s just...stuck somewhere?”
And then, the phone rings. FaceTime.
Kevin picks it up, and there you are, hair done, makeup on, looking good — but very frazzled. Behind you, it’s pure chaos. Outfits are everywhere, like a tornado went through her hotel room.
“Oh my god, you guys, you guys! Help!”
Kevin felt a headache forming just from the sound of your panicked voice.
Okay, so you weren't in an emergency that required EMTs, but at this rate, Kevin was about ready to call someone for himself.
Sami’s face softened, but even he looked a bit on edge. “Wait...are you not on your way?” he asked, his voice calm but with a very real hint of panic.
“I—I was! I mean, I was about to leave, but then Liv and Naomi... and then they couldn’t decide, and I couldn’t decide, and now I don’t know what to wear!” you rambled, looking as close to the verge of tears as Kevin had ever seen.
Kevin pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering under his breath. “So you’re telling us...you’ve been ready, but just can’t decide what to wear?”
Sami tried to be encouraging. “Okay, breathe, it’s not the end of the world. Just pick something, alright?”
“But I can’t just pick! I need an opinion!” You said the last word with all the desperation in the world, staring at them both through the screen like they held the answer to all your problems.
Kevin glanced at Sami. “Here’s an opinion: Get. to. A. Car.”
“But Kevin—”
“Nope,” Kevin interrupted, sternly. “No more buts. You’re getting to the arena right now. Do you understand?”
You swallowed, nodding but still looking around at the tornado of options surrounding you.
"Fine. But—could you guys maybe come and get me? Because if I take an Uber, some crazy fan might see me and figure out the hotel…remember last time! And I can’t walk there, and—and—”
“Fine, fine! We’re on our way,” Kevin said, already grabbing his keys as he shoved the phone into his pocket, muttering the entire time. “This woman, I swear...”
Sami gave him a reassuring smile as they headed out the door. “Look, she’d do the same for us, right?”
Kevin shot him a look. “She’d think about it. And then get sidetracked picking out shoes.”
9:05 PM — Hotel Room Tornado
Kevin’s jaw drops when they finally arrive. You're spraying herself with perfume, the air so thick with it that it nearly chokes him. Your room looks like it exploded: dresses, shoes, accessories strewn everywhere.
“Uh… so… what happened here?” Sami asks gently, trying to mask his shock.
You whirled around, eyes wide, clutching a pair of heels. “I don’t know! It just… spiraled! And I still don’t know what to wear. Can one of you reach up there and hand me that other perfume bottle?”
Sami hesitantly reaches for the perfume. You snatched it, spraying yourself and the room like it’s some kind of ritual.
Kevin finally steps in, grabbing the perfume bottle from you. “Alright, that’s enough! You already smell like a department store!”
You paused, looking genuinely surprised. “Really?”
“Yes, really,” Kevin deadpans, barely hiding his amusement. “Now can we please pick something?”
Your eyes flicker between Kevin and Sami, desperate for some guidance. “Please, I’m begging. I need an opinion.”
“Listen,” Kevin said, voice stern, “here’s an opinion: we need to get out the door now. No more perfume. No more earrings. You look fine!”
“But which outfit?” you begged, eyes wide and pleading, grabbing at another rhinestone-covered top from your pile.
Kevin rolls his eyes. He had his “stern dad” face you usually saw him have with his kids. “Here’s another opinion: Get. To. The. Car. Now. So grab something, anything, because we’re not missing this segment. Or I'll drag u out like this...”
“Okay! Okay.” You frantically nodded, grabbing a bag of clothes in a rush. But you’re still panicking, hopping on one foot as you try to fasten your heels. “Wait, wait! Do I go with the red dress, or the black one with the rhinestones, or—”
You were still struggling to get your heels on, and they are so tall that, for a moment, you almost fall over, your hands flailing as you try to balance.
Kevin let out a long-suffering sigh, walked over, and, with remarkable gentleness, scooped you up and tossed you over his shoulder.
“Kevin!” you yelped, laughing but still scrambling for your heels. "I have a skirt on!"
“Too bad. You should have thought about that before making us late. Put those heels on in the car. We don’t have time for this, were going now!” Kevin ordered as he carried you down the hall, Sami grabbing the bags and following behind.
9:15 PM — En Route to the Arena
In the backseat, you’re still panicking, practically rummaging through one of your bags as you start asking questions they barely understand.
“Which highlighter should I go for? Does this lip color look too bold? Should I touch up my eyeshadow? Sami, I need an opinion — it’s got to look fierce but not, you know, too fierce.”
Sami, bless him, actually humors you. “Uh, I’d say… go for whatever makes you look the most… fierce but not too fierce?” He shrugs, glancing at Kevin, who just rolls his eyes.
Kevin finally snaps, “How about whatever lets us get out of this car on time?”
9:25 PM — Arena Locker Room They dragged you straight to their locker room, not giving you a chance to second-guess.
Kevin stood by the door, hands on his hips. “Alright, pick one. Now.”
You fumbled through the options, but everything seemed like it could work. “I just need your guys' opinion!” You begged, glancing between them.
Kevin gave you a look that was 50% done and 50% concerned.
He crossed his arms, sighing deeply. “My opinion is..."
You gave him a hopeful look that almost made him feel bad.
"...Is one that gets us out of here and into the parking lot now."
Your face dropped as Kevin continued. "Triple H will have our heads if we’re late, and then no more budget for your endless outfits.”
That actually seems to scare you into focus, and after a dramatic sigh, you look at Sami, eyes begging him to make the choice for you.
Sami, patience worn thin but still kind, grabs the first outfit he sees tossed onto the bench: a sleek black crop top with rhinestones and matching tight leather pants. “This one. It’s simple, it’s hot, and it doesn’t take a hundred hours to get into.”
You hesitate for a second, looking at it, then at him, like you’re about to argue. Kevin doesn’t even give you the chance.
“Bathroom. Change. Now.” His expression is pure dad-mode, like there’s zero room for debate. He even points at the door for extra emphasis.
You huff, grabbing the outfit, muttering something about “fashion police” as you dart into the bathroom. Kevin and Sami exchange a look, relief mixed with exasperation.
Finally, after what feels like forever (and more muffled muttering from you), you step out, fully dressed in the chosen outfit. Kevin gives you an approving nod, arms crossed. “There. Perfect. See how easy that was?”
"No." You pouted, going to get some perfume, but Kevin takes it from your hand once again, looking at you in disbelief. "No more perfume. You already smell like a whole store, now let's GO!"
You jumped at his tone, getting up and racing out the door. “Fine, dad.”
Sami gave Kevin a exasperated look before he followed you, mostly to steady you in your heels (you can barely ever run in them, so why you wore them Kevin will never understand)
Kevin watched you run both ahead, muttering to himself, “If she pulls this again, I’m going to…” He trailed off, clearly unable to hold back a fond smile despite the chaos.
9:29 PM — Parking Lot Set for the Segment
They make it just in time, practically skidding into the parking lot where their segment is set to go live. Kevin and you go stand next to the car as Sami goes near the wall, waiting for his cue to walk up to the two of you.
You're still catching your breath, adjusting your top, as Kevin gives you a long, unimpressed look.
“If you ever pull this again…”
You didn't pull a stunt like that again for another five months, which for Kevin, was something he was actually proud of you for.

Cody Rhodes and Y/N L/N were the definition of platonic soulmates. They were the perfect mold for anyone to model their friendship after. Their camaraderie was the stuff of legend, both on and off the screen. Fans adored their playful banter during interviews, their synchronized moves in the ring, and the genuine affection that radiated between them. They were the dynamic duo, the unbeatable team, the best friends who had each other's backs no matter what.
Backstage it was no different, they were inseparable. Whether it was grabbing coffee before a show, rehearsing promos, hanging out in the locker room, or watching movies all night in their shared hotel room. Y/N and Cody were always together. It was rare that anyone would ever catch one without the other.
In the beginning, they raised a lot of eyebrows. There was a lot of speculation of them being in a relationship due to how often they were seen together, but those rumors were quickly put to rest. While many fans still “shipped” the together, everyone knew their relationship would remain friendly as it always had been.
In interviews there were always questions about certain moments in Kayfabe or even about photos taken of them outside of the ring that questioned their friendship. But their answers were always the same.
“Ew, he’s like my brother.”
“Absolutely not. She’s my best friend.”
“I’d probably throw up if he tried to kiss me, honestly.”
“She snores when she sleeps, I don’t think I could spend the rest of my life living with that torture.”
The responses were always playful, filled with banter like every conversation they had. They would slap each other or shove each other if they chose to be a little extra sensitive, but it was all in good nature.
Still though, no matter how many times they said things between them were completely platonic, the edits, memes, conspiracy theories, and social media posts never faded.
It didn’t bother them though. The only people who needed to know the true nature of their relationship was them, and they were content with that. They still went about their life as usual. Traveling to venues together, doing interviews, grabbing dinner, walking Pharaoh, even training new students at the Nightmare Factory.
Everything was great. Until Paul Levesque decided he wanted Cody and Y/S/N to do a promo with Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio. Rhea and Y/S/N had a rivalry going on and it was good for the storyline to have Cody and Dom by their sides as support, which would eventually lead to a mixed tag match.
It was always hard to keep a straight face when arguing on screen with Rhea as Y/N and Demi actually had a really strong friendship backstage. So they had to constantly think of negative things to remain in character. It helped having Cody out there as seeing him be “The American Nightmare” rather than Cody Runnels kept her in check.
The promo itself was going well. The audience was completely entranced by the words and shots being taken. Dominik didn’t get much out before being booed which lead perfectly to Cody chiming in sarcastically before Rhea jumped in to defend her man. They played off each other nicely. The difference in their dynamics kept everyone hooked.
Then came the portion where Rhea had to take a cheap shot at Y/S/N. She was ready to take her bump, Cody shifting slightly so he wouldn’t be in the way. But Y/N felt something was wrong as Rhea went to give her a big boot. Y/N went to sell the hell out of it, the bottom of her boot connecting to the side of her face. She throws herself backwards, but instead of meeting the mat below her, she collides with a broad chest that definitely was not supposed to be there.
Y/N groans as she hears Cody cough beneath her. They landed in a heap of tangled limbs. Both of them try to get to their feet as fast as possible, knowing this fall wasn’t scripted, but things only worsened as they moved.
Y/N tries to stand the same time Cody tries to roll over which somehow ends with Y/N straddling Cody, his hands on her waist in the middle of the ring.
Her face flushes as whistles erupt throughout the audience. She glances down at Cody who looks stoic on the outside but she can see the panic behind his ice blue eyes.
“You gonna get up, Y/N/N?” He whispers through tight-lips so only she can hear.
Y/N snaps out of her daze, “Right, sorry.”
Y/N scrambles back up to her feet, doing her best to remain in character as she helps Cody up. Unfortunately the damage was already done. The arena was buzzing with giggling fans, future rumors, and the snapping of cameras.
Michael Cole and Pat McAfee let out the most natural laughs they could, making some sort of joke to try and distract everyone from the scene, and while it was appreciated, it definitely didn’t work. Y/N and Cody went to walk backstage and out of muscle memory, he went to put his hand on her lower back to guide her, but as soon as they heard the whistles from the crowd he retracted his touch. They both share the same anxious look before completely disappearing into the back.
Turns out their coworkers are even more immature than the fans. Everyone they walked past made a comment about it, whether it was subtle or not depended on the person. Y/N rolled her eyes particularly hard when walking by Logan Paul who let out an obnoxious whistle.
“Damn, Cody! You are one lucky S.O.B.” He pats his back before looking Y/N up and down and continuing on his way.
Y/N clenches her fist in anger and she turns to give the Maverick a piece of her mind. Just as she’s about to pounce, Cody places his hands on her waist gently. She turns to him, an incredulous look on her face as she can’t believe he’s stopping her.
He shakes his head, “He’s not worth whatever witty thing you’re about to say,” he tells her with his signature half smile. It doesn’t quite reach his eyes as he’s no doubt feeling the same embarrassment she is. “Don’t waste it on him. C’mon…” he pulls her along with him, “Let’s go get you some fruit from catering.”
Just hearing him speak managed to cool her rising anger. She melted into his touch, allowing him to guide her back to catering. He somehow always knows exactly what to say to fix everything. It only made it better when he grabbed them a plate to share, managing to remember every single one of her favorite fruits. Thankfully, no one else said anything along the way about the incident in the ring. It’s times like this where Y/N is so grateful to have a best friend like Cody.
But things felt a bit off once they sat down. Anytime they made eye contact, both of them would immediately look away, like they had been caught doing something bad. Or their faces would heat up from the prolonged glances. They both chalked it up to being embarrassed by what happened, but something definitely changed in the air that surrounded their friendship.
They just didn’t know what yet.
═══════•°• ⚠ •°•═══════
From that day on, Cody and Y/N found themselves getting into very similar situations. No matter where they went, the tension between them seemed to grow. Their conversations seemed much more charged than usual, the glances they shared seemed to last a bit longer, touches linger for longer than they should, even something as simple as watching movies together in the hotel room suddenly became a bit more intense than usual.
Y/N groaned irritatedly as the pen she was using to sign autographed pictures of herself ran out of ink. She managed to get ready quicker than usual so she scrambled over to get these signatures done. She had been slacking in doing them recently and she felt terrible. She would be nowhere without her fans so the least she could do is get these autographs done.
However, it becomes a slight challenge as she chucks the dead pen in the garbage can in the corner of the room before walking out. She remembers one of the grips told her that there was a supply closet around the corner if she needed anything so she headed that way.
Well, she tried to.
A small ‘umph’ leaves her as she collides into a solid chest. Her eyes travel upwards, apology locked and loaded for not watching where she was going, until her irises locked with a familiar pair of icy blue ones.
“Hey, Y/N/N…” Cody greets with a smile. “What are you doing? Don’t you have a match?”
Y/N visibly relaxes, glad she doesn’t have to profusely apologize for being a klutz as Cody is already well aware of the fact. She quirks a playful brow, “Yeah, in like an hour,” she laughs. “Damn with the way you said that you’d think I was a slacker or something.”
Cody’s eyes widen, “No– No, that’s not what I meant. I just didn’t know if you needed to go and run over some bumps or–”
Y/N pokes his chest playfully, “Relax. I’m kidding,” she gestures for him to follow after her as she continues down the hallway. “But no, Gionna and I are good. We were at it for like six hours yesterday. I’m just signing autographs right now since I got the time, but my pen died, so I’m just grabbing a new one.”
“Always working, aren’t you?” He nudges her shoulder with his, making her stumble into the wall.
She sends a teasing glare, “Well one of us has to,” she fires sassily before opening the door to the supply closet and walking in, Cody following closely behind.
“Are you implying I don’t work?” He crosses his arms over his chest as he starts helping her go through the plethora of boxes to find one with pens.
“What? No,” she scoffs teasingly. “I would never say such a thing.”
“And this is why you could never play a convincing heel,” he smirks back at her, grabbing a box from a higher shelf. “You can’t lie for shit.”
Y/N’s scoffs loudly, whipping her head around, “For your information–”
She’s suddenly cut off by one of the many boxes filled with heavy items start falling from high above. Cody notices, grabbing Y/N’s shoulders protectively before pulling her into his chest. The two of them collide with the door they left slightly ajar. The door slams shut with a small click as the box hits the floor with a loud thud.
Cody and Y/N stand there breathlessly, Y/N leaning onto Cody’s chest as he keeps his hands firm on her hips. The two of them look down at the spilled contents all over the floor and begin laughing.
“Well… found your pens,” he says cheekily.
Y/N rolls her eyes, but nonetheless bends over to pick one up. “Would’ve been more helpful if I didn’t have to almost die to get them.”
“Luckily for both of us you didn’t,” he says endearingly. He’s always loved how overdramatic she can get. He turns to grab the door handle, “Now let’s get outta here so you can finish signing–”
The door handle won’t budge.
Y/N lifts an eyebrow, “Need a hand, Runnels?”
He jiggles the handle roughly, “It won’t open.”
“What?”
“The door,” Cody pulls a bit harder, “It won’t open.”
Y/N tries to move around his large frame, but with the space being so crammed it’s a tight fit. She manages to wiggle in front of him, looking down at the door handle. She tries to open it herself which makes Cody exhale rather loudly.
“Wow, wish I would’ve thought of that,” he quips sassily.
Y/N looks over her shoulder, sending a glare his way. “I was just trying to see.”
“I said it won’t open, how is you doing the exact same thing I did gonna help?”
“I don’t know!” Y/N exclaims, growing more frustrated with their situation. “I’m just trying to help.”
“Is there a lock on it or something?” He asks, trying to see through the darkness.
Y/N bends down a little bit, not aware of how hard she’s pressing into Cody. Not that they can go anywhere or put much distance between them. So the man simply inhales sharply but says nothing. “It looks like it’s manually locked by a key,” she reveals, running a hand over her face. “Which means we’re stuck until one of the maintenance workers can come open it.”
“You don’t have your phone on you to call someone?” Cody asks her, noticing the growing heat in the small closet. When the door was open it seemed much bigger, enough to fit both of them. But now it feels if either of them were to take a breath that it might make them suffocate.
“No,” Y/N sighs frustratedly. “I left it in the other room.” She turns, narrowing her eyes at him, “Where’s your phone?” She asks in an almost accusatory tone.
Cody shrugs, “In my locker. I was going over my promo in hair and makeup so I put it away, that way I wouldn’t get distracted.”
“Convenient…” she mumbles, glancing around to try and find something to open the door.
“Why are you mad at me?” Cody furrows his eyebrows. “It’s not my fault.”
Y/N huffs, realizing her snippiness shouldn’t be directed at him. She turns around without thinking, her face suddenly impossibly close to his. Her chest presses against his mid-section, his ice blue eyes boring into hers. Her breath hitches when she realizes that their noses are practically touching. She swallows the butterflies that appeared out of nowhere. Her mind feels overly fuzzy. She doesn’t understand what brought on the rush of nerves, but she doesn’t want to know.
“I’m not mad at you,” she finally utters, much quieter than she thought she was going to. “I’m just… trying to find a way out.”
Cody stares at her, feeling her chest rise and fall with each breath. His hand twitches at his side as the impulsive urge to place his hand on her waist fills his mind. He notices how her eyes flicker across his face, never travelling below his neck. It makes him wonder if it’s on purpose or if she naturally just possesses that high level of respect that forces her to maintain eye contact.
“Well, I’m not working against you Y/N/N,” Cody smiles softly at her. “I’m trying to help too, y’know…” he says teasingly.
Y/N rolls her eyes, but she can’t help smiling at him. “I know… ’m sorry for snapping at you,” she mumbles. “Just don’t wanna be stuck in here for longer than we have to.”
“Hasn’t anyone ever told you two heads are better than one?”
“It shouldn’t take two heads to unlock a door,” Y/N fires back sassily.
“Then I guess that makes us special, huh?” He grins goofily and Y/N wishes she could pretend to be annoyed, but she can’t help herself when a soft chuckle escapes her lips.
“Just shut up and help me,” Y/N grumbles, forcing herself to look serious.
Cody throws his hands up in mock defense, “Okay, okay… so angry.”
The two of them glance around the small space, trying to find anything that might serve as some sort of assistance. Unfortunately, everything in the small storage closet doesn’t fit the criteria for their circumstances.
“There’s seriously no safety pins in here?” Y/N asks aloud, squinting her eyes to read some of the labels on the cardboard.
Cody’s brows furrow “What would you do with a safety pin?”
Y/N doesn’t look back at him, answering matter-of-factly, “Pick the lock, obviously.”
“How do you know how to pick a lock?” He stares at his best friend with an expression that definitely surpasses shock.
Y/N pauses, finally looking back at him, his body still behind hers. “Do you really want to know the answer to that question?” She asks.
“Yeah, kinda,” Cody nods with a scoff, his face still scrunched with confusion.
Y/N remains silent for a moment, “Before Good left for AEW, we had a couple of… interesting experiences together.”
“What does that even mean?” Cody interrogates. He shifts slightly, accidentally brushing Y/N’s backside with the movement. If she noticed, she doesn’t say anything, still messing with the door handle in front of her.
Y/N sighs, yanking the handle with a bit more force than necessary. “We were drunk at an after party for one of the PLE’s like five years ago and we got locked out on the roof. Neither of us could call anyone so he asked me if I had a safety pin. I had one on my skirt ‘cause it was too big and long story short, he showed me how to pick a lock.”
“Why have I never heard this story?” He asks with a frown. He knows he shouldn’t be jealous. Y/N’s always been friendly, she’s got a good rapport with pretty much everyone in the locker room. Plus, she worked closely with The Shield during their prime, so it only makes sense that she had a good relationship with Jonathan Good. The logic didn’t help soothe the uncomfortable burning in his chest at the thought of her being close like this with someone else.
She shrugs, “Never came up. Well… until now at least.”
Cody forced his mind to stay on the situation at hand. He reaches around her, trying to grab the door handle, “Here, let me try something.”
Y/N unintentionally stiffens as Cody’s arms wrap around her. She can feel his chin practically resting on her shoulder, his breath fanning her neck lightly. Her pulse quickens as his body heat becomes almost unbearable. It’s not like he hasn’t had his arms around her before, but this feels different. Maybe it’s just her who feels it, but she can’t ignore the surge of pure electricity coursing through her just by his presence. Ever since that day when she took the botched bump, small moments like this have become harder to view as friendly.
Her hands are pressed against the door in front of her to keep her upright as Cody methodically fiddles with the handle. She doesn’t know if he’s aware of how hard he’s pushing her forward, but it’s not of importance.
“You all right?” Cody asks worriedly, much too close to her ear. Chills run down her spine as she tries to come up with a coherent sentence. He felt her tense up the moment he moved closer to her so he wanted to check in. He didn’t realize the reason she’s unable to speak or even think properly is because of him.
“Uh– yeah, yeah I’m good. It’s just getting kinda warm in here,” Y/N replies, her throat bobbing as she swallows harshly.
Cody glances at her arms, “You sure you’re warm? You’ve got goosebumps.”
The way he meant it was completely innocent but the tone in his voice made Y/N inhale sharply, eyes closing as she repeatedly reminds herself that this man is like a brother to her. Though it seems the more she says it the less convinced she actually is.
“Nope,” she says stiffly. “Definitely hot. Super warm.”
Cody uses one of his hands, curling his arm to place it on her cheek in a delicate manner. It’s something he had done millions of times when she was feeling ill as a way to check her temperature. Feeling his hand on her skin simply makes her burn up even more. Her heart rate is beating so loud she’s more than ninety percent sure he could hear it. Yet his face remains unaffected, the emotion of concern being the only thing he’s letting show. Y/N finds herself leaning into him, their bodies pushed even closer together. His lips are still impossibly close to her neck due to their awkward stance. One slight shift in footing and he’d kissing the sensitive area.
“You do feel a little warm,” Cody voices, his bright blue eyes scanning over her. He notices the irregular way her chest rises and falls with every breath. Her eyes seem unnaturally hooded and her lips are parted slightly. He wonders what could possibly be going on with her to warrant this shift in behavior. She was her normal self just mere moments ago. “Have you been feeling sick?”
Sick isn’t the word to currently describe how she’s feeling.
“No,” Y/N tells him, trying to muster up her most unbothered smile, but judging by the skeptical look on Cody’s face, she didn’t do a very good job. “I’m feeling okay. Maybe I’m just getting claustrophobic or something.”
That’s when his focus is completely taken away from the door. The hand that was on her cheek drifts down to her neck to see if her raised temperature is even everywhere while his other hand grips onto her hip. Y/N exhales, her eyes fully closing as the sensations become much too overwhelming. She doesn’t understand why she’s feeling this way. Cody pauses for a second too long, silently hoping Y/N doesn’t notice. He feels the way her body relaxes into him. He fights the urge to squeeze the fat of her hip, reminding himself that this is Y/N. His best friend Y/N. But the tantalizing smell of coconut, eucalyptus, and oak fogs his mind for a brief moment. But that brief moment is all it takes. He finds himself leaning forward, his lips just barely hovering above the sweet spot behind her ear. He swears he can hear a small whimper leave her, but ultimately chalks it up to his imagination.
Just as it seems they’re about to forgo any personal boundaries, the two of them are launched forward and tumble to the floor with a loud thud. The two of them groan in different pitches as they realize someone had finally opened the door from the outside. “I told you I heard someone in there,” the familiar voice of Kevin Steen catches their attention.
Y/N forces herself to hide her flustered state by avoiding any and all eye contact with Cody. However, it’s very difficult as the man can’t seem to stop staring at her, despite the fact they had just been caught in a closet together, a bit too close for a reasonable explanation.
“I never said you were wrong,” Randy Orton shrugs. “Just said I didn’t hear anything and would laugh if we opened it and it was empty.”
“Well, it wasn’t,” Kevin says triumphantly. “And we just saved their lives,” he glances at the two best friends who are now slowly getting up from the floor. “You’re welcome by the way.”
“Yeah, thanks…” Y/N says gratefully, still trying to avoid staring at Cody so it comes off a bit more awkward than she intended.
“What were you guys even doing in there anyway?” Randy questions, arms folded over his chest somehow making him appear even bigger than he already is.
That’s when it happens. Y/N and Cody look at each other, both of their mouths open slightly as they try to find something to say. They didn’t do anything wrong, yet it felt like they were being caught doing something inappropriate by one of their parents. It didn’t make sense. Why did it feel like a lie if they were to say their original plan was to look for pens and they ended up getting locked in there? That truly was what happened, but by the way she can still feel a buzz on her cheek where his hand used to be, it felt dishonest to minimize the impact that tiny closet had.
“She was signing autographs and her pen died,” Cody finally answered for the both of them. But even though he was answering Randy, his eyes continuously flickered over to the woman next to him. “So we tried to find one and ended up getting locked in.”
Y/N was grateful he was able to say that and appear as though he believed it. She isn’t sure she could’ve gotten through it without looking absolutely guilty of something she didn’t even do.
“And neither of you bothered to call for help?” Kevin asks with a small chuckle. “You guys do know cellphones are a thing now, right?”
“Neither of us had ours,” Y/N speaks up, the steadiness in her voice surprising her. “I left mine in the signing room and Cody’s is in his locker.”
“Why doesn’t that surprise me?” Randy shakes his head before patting Y/N’s back with a fond grin. “You two always seem to be the ones getting stuck in situations like this.”
“Believe me, we’re not purposefully going out of our way to get stuck in closets,” Y/N replies with a lighthearted laugh, the tension from Cody’s touch slowly easing out of her shoulders. “I guess it’s just a best friend curse or something,” she glances over at Cody.
“I don’t know about that,” Kevin teases, bumping Cody’s shoulder as the five of them begin heading down the hallway to finish prepping for their long night. “Randy and I have never been caught in a closet like that. You two looked pretty snug.”
“Shut up,” Y/N scoffs with an eye roll. “Where else could we have gone? Up on the shelves? Wasn’t exactly a lot of room in there.”
Cody remains silent as the three people next to him continue to joke around. He doesn’t know why he can’t bring himself to chime in, but every time he looks at Y/N he can feel his hands become clammy and a feverous chill pass through him. The way she’s smiling as Randy keeps his arm securely around her shoulders, and the way she playfully pushes Kevin away as he continues to berate them for the questionable circumstances she cand Cody continue to end up in. It makes him furrow his brows as he tries to figure out where these sudden changes in his feelings are coming from. All he can decipher is that he may have enjoyed being pressed up against her a bit too much when they were stuck in that closet.

Things had seemed to calm down slightly over the next week or so. While memes and rumors still circulated about the nature of Cody and Y/N’s friendship, they hadn’t done anything more to incriminate themselves. The supply closet incident thankfully stayed between them, Randy, and Kevin, so there was no more ammunition for people to continue using.
… Until now.
One early morning in Cody’s hometown of Atlanta Georgia, he had invited Y/N to stay with him for the week so he could show her around. SmackDown was going to be there that Friday so he figured they could spend a few days before just hanging out before the show. It wasn’t the first time she had stayed with him, but it had definitely been a while. He had gotten her up early Thursday morning and forced her to go to the gym at the Nightmare Factory. She protested, wanting to sleep in, but he wouldn’t allow it. Said she’d feel better if they got their workout out of the way first so they could have the rest of the day to themselves.
She hated it, but she knew he was right. She’d despise herself more if they waited until later. So she begrudgingly forced herself out of the comfortable bed in his spare bedroom and went with him to the gym.
Y/N enjoyed working out at the private gym at Cody’s training facility. It once belonged to his dad, but it was passed down to him after Dusty passed. That was a hard time for everyone, especially considering the amount of time Y/N spent with the Runnels family.
Things had been going well. It was a chest and shoulders day, so they went through their usual workouts, doing their separate weights and stretches until they met up to spot each other at the bench press. Cody went first, smirking as he slid more plates on the bar. Y/N rolled her eyes at his cockiness but nonetheless kept herself ready just in case his muscles weren’t strong enough for his ego.
Then it was her turn. She got into position, adding more weight than she normally does. It’s that time of the year where she bulks before doing a huge cut so she’s pushing herself to lift more than usual. Cody raises an eyebrow but says nothing, knowing better than to question the strength of his best friend.
But he quickly realizes that maybe he should have. Y/N is fine for the first three reps, until he notices the smallest quiver in her arms as she goes to press up for the fourth time. He watches as her back begins to lift off the bench and he moves to help her rack the bar before she hurts herself.
Unfortunately, right as he goes to grab the bar, she pushes up at the exact same time which makes him lose his balance.
“Shit,” Cody yelps as he uses his unnatural reflexes to toss the bar to the floor before it could crush Y/N. Unfortunately it wasn’t fast enough to stop his frame from toppling forward with the momentum and crashing on top of her on the bench.
Y/N lets out a loud grunt as she’s crushed by her best friend. It takes her a moment to realize the precarious position they now find themselves in. She freezes as her eyes settle directly on Cody’s crotch which is definitely too close to her face for comfort. She can feel him tense on top of her as he comes to terms with how close his own mouth is to her lower extremities.
Neither of them move. If anyone were to walk in or look on from the many windows, all of the times they denied being just friends would no longer matter. No one would believe them if they were caught like this. But for some reason they stay like that. Breathing heavily as they sit in the electrified silence.
If Y/N were to listen to her intrusive thoughts, she would have leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the slight bulge in his sweatpants, but thankfully she has some sense of self control.
Cody swallows roughly, not able to look away from where his eyeline is currently lined up. He could easily slide his fingers up through her spandex. He mentally scolds himself for thinking that about her, but the thought in itself is enough to make his face flush red.
He finally snaps out of his trance, rolling off of her and onto the floor. Y/N keeps her eyes on the ceiling for a split second longer before finally sitting up and looking at Cody. They both were at a loss for words as they tried to figure out what to say to each other after what just happened.
Cody’s the first one to finally speak up, “Are you okay?”
Y/N nods slowly, “Yeah… Are you?”
“Yeah,” he replies.
Y/N can feel her neck heating up as her mind continues replaying the incident that just unfolded. Her eyes flicker down to his lips, biting the inside of her cheek trying to find a way to control herself. She finally finds the right words to say to try and move them forward. “Wanna go get breakfast?”
Cody stares at her blankly until an amused laugh leaves his lips. He shakes his head, pushing himself up off the floor before sticking his hand out to her. “Yeah, let’s get out of here before you try to kill me again.”
“You fell on top of me!” She exclaims playfully, taking his palm in hers as they walk out of the gym and to his car.
The two of them playfully bicker, things falling back into a natural rhythm as they try to forget the heated exchange that happened at the gym. Cody brought her to his favorite bagel place, the two of them enjoying their protein bagels in peace. Until Y/N’s phone begins blowing up. Her brows furrow as she sees Savelina’s name pop up. Cody takes a bite of his food before nodding his head, silently telling her to take the call.
Y/N does, “Hey, Lina. What’s up?”
“Please tell me you’ve checked at least one of your social media accounts in the last thirty minutes,” the woman rushes out, her voice containing an edge of panic.
“No…” Y/N trails off, sharing a worried look with Cody. “Why, what’s going on?”
“Is Cody with you?”
“Yeah…” Y/N trails off with a nervous chuckle. “You’re scaring me, Lina. What’s going on?”
“Here, I’ll send it to you,” she answers.
Y/N takes her phone away from her ear to check her text messages. When she opens their thread, her eyes practically pop out of her head. “Holy shit!”
Cody jumps from the sudden raise in her voice. There’s a tad bit of cream cheese on the corner of his mouth which makes her want to giggle but her mind is still focused on the photo Savelina just sent her. Y/N puts her on speaker so Cody can hear. “That wasn’t even an hour ago,” Y/N says exasperatedly.
“Yeah, I guess a fan was walking past at the wrong time and snapped the photo.”
Cody looks at his best friend, “What photo?”
Y/n sighs before pulling up the picture again and shows it to Cody’s who’s face mimicked her own expression from moments ago. “Shit…” he mumbles.
“You guys are trending number one on X right now,” Sav warns them. “So I would lay low for the next few days if I were you. I’m sure one of you will be getting a call from someone soon.”
Y/N exhales frustratedly, running a hand over her face. Not even three seconds later, Cody’s phone begins to buzz. Both of them tense as they watch Paul Levesque’s name pop up. Y/N hits her head on the dash compartment before speaking again, “Thanks for the warning, Lina.”
“Yeah, good luck guys.” The woman says sympathetically before hanging up.
Cody begrudgingly answers Paul’s call, putting him on speaker. Both of the best friends prepare themselves to get yelled at by their boss. “Hey Paul,” Cody says with a sigh.
“I’m assuming you’ve seen the photo,” Paul says, not angry or disappointed, maybe even slightly amused.
“Just now, yeah,” Cody answers, his hand running over his jaw.
“Is Y/N still with you?”
“Hey Paul…” Y/N greets awkwardly.
“Yeah, I figured,” he says. They hear papers shuffling on his end of the line which indicates that he’s probably already at the arena. “I need you guys to come in a bit earlier so we can do some… damage control on this whole situation before it gets blown out of proportion.”
“All right,” Cody agrees. “We’ll be there.”
“Perfect. See you in a few.”
As soon as Paul hung up the phone, the first thing that came out of either of them was one simple statement.
“We’re fucked.”
By the time they showered, got dressed, and drove over to the arena, an hour had passed. No other talent was there yet and they were specifically instructed by the execs to avoid getting on social media today at all costs so they’ve been actively avoiding their phones.
They had gotten calls from pretty much everyone on the roster and from their families asking what is actually going on. After the fifth or sixth time of telling the story, they both wanted to just send a massive group text to everyone in order to prevent themselves from going insane.
Cody could feel Y/N’s nerves as they walked through the halls to go find Paul. She wrings her hands together, not even realizing she’s doing it. He noticed it was a habit she had when she was anxious. Without putting much thought into it, he reaches over and grabs her left hand with his right. They both flinch from the sudden shock wave that’s sent through them. Y/N’s arm buzzes from the sensation, but she can’t help lacing her fingers through his.
They fit together like a puzzle piece.
“It’s gonna be okay,” he tells her with a nod. She looks in his eyes and he really isn’t just saying that to make her feel better. He actually believes it, and his confidence is enough to make her believe it too. “Nothing bad’s gonna happen. We’ve been through worse.”
Y/N laughs but it lacks the humor it usually has, “I don’t know about that,” she says.
“We have,” Cody insists as they continue walking. “Remember two years ago when you broke your collarbone and we didn’t know how long it would be til you could come back?” He brings up the incident, a brief flash of pain crossing his face as he remembers the tumultuous time. “That to me was definitely worse than this.”
Y/N huffs, “Okay, maybe I am being a bit dramatic, but this is serious. I don’t want this to affect our careers and the business. And I really don’t want people thinking we’ve been dating this whole time and lying about it.”
“Would it really be so bad if we were?” He says out of nowhere, almost like it was an afterthought.
Y/N stops just outside of Paul’s office, her head snapping towards Cody. “What?” She asks incredulously.
“I’m just saying it wouldn’t be that bad if people assumed we had been dating this whole time,” he defends. “We do spend a lot of time together. It’s not completely out of the blue.” He takes note of the shock on Y/N’s face. “Unless you’d be embarrassed to say you were with me.”
Y/N blinks, “I never said that,” she scoffs. “I wouldn’t be embarrassed, I’m just saying I don’t want either of our careers to be focused on a relationship,” she explains. “We’ve both seen what happens when two superstars start dating. They get linked to each other and it’s almost impossible to be separated afterwards. And I don’t wanna make it a gender thing, but it’s a lot easier for the guy in the situation to not be reduced to a piece of eye candy.”
Cody sighs knowing she’s right. Y/N has put her heart and soul into her career and he would hate himself if she became tethered to him over this rumor. He didn’t know why he brought up the fact they could pretend they’d been together, but the more time that goes on, the more he realizes he wouldn’t mind calling her more than his best friend.
“I don’t want you to think I’d ever be ashamed or embarrassed to say that I was with you,” Y/N says softly, almost like she read his mind. “You’re my best friend and a great guy. I just don’t want to be a show girl that accompanies you out to your matches and then I get none of my own.”
Cody’s half grin finally shows, his dimple poking out, “You’re too badass for that. They couldn’t make you just a show girl even if they tried.” He rubs his thumb on the back of her hand, “If anything I’d be out there as your piece of ass.”
Y/N and him both share an intimate chuckle, “Okay mister quarterback of the company,” she teases as their eyes meet at the same time.
“A quarterback is nothing without their left tackle,” he says, his voice lowering as his eyes flicker to her lips briefly. Y/N feels her heart begin to race, wondering if she imagined his quick glance.
Suddenly his head ducks down closer to her face, their noses only inches apart. Y/N does her best to try and diffuse whatever tension is bubbling between them, “I don’t know anything about football…” she mumbles humorously, “so I’m starting to regret my reference.”
Cody laughs, the sound rumbling deep in his chest, “It just means I wouldn’t be successful without you,” he explains.
Y/N is no longer in control of what her body does. She finds herself leaning forward towards him as well. If either of them budged even the slightest, that photo would make them look even more incriminating. Now they would actually be guilty of lying about their relationship.
“You’d be fine without me…” she mumbles, her breath fanning his face.
“I wouldn’t want to be.”
Just as he says that, Y/N reaches up to loop her arms around his neck. Both of them are clearly running on autopilot as the heat of the moment seems to fog their brains and distract them from why they’re even at the stadium this early.
That is until they’re reminded.
“There you two are,” Paul’s voice rings out as he opens up the door to his office. Cody and Y/N jump apart, thanking their lucky stars that Paul’s face is buried in a folder with papers in complete disarray. It gives them enough time to look like they weren’t about to make out in the middle of the hallway. Cody and Y/N share a look, both of their faces burning up from whatever just occurred between them. Paul glances between them when neither of them make a move, “You guys gonna come in?”
Y/N’s the first to snap out of her trance, “Uh, yeah. Sorry,” she apologizes before following Paul into his office, Cody trailing in closely behind. “Just a little thrown off by everything going on,” she explains.
“Yeah, that’s why we wanted you guys to stay away from the internet for right now,” Paul rattles off, gesturing for them to sit down as he puts away whatever paperwork he was working on. “Things get crazy when stuff like this happens.” He finally takes a seat behind his desk, putting his whole attention on the two adults across from him. They might be considered adults by age, but by the way Paul is looking at them, anyone would think they were getting called to the principal's office.
“Listen, I’m not gonna beat around the bush, I respect you both too much to do that. I need you both to understand the severity of the situation. This incident alone might just break the internet,” Paul reveals, folding his hands together. “People are speculating that you two have been together this whole time and have been lying about it. Normally it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but with both of you being the top two babyfaces in the company, lying doesn’t look good on you guys.”
Y/N sighs, running a hand over her face once again, “Yeah, we figured that’s what was gonna happen.”
“Long story short, we don’t want it to affect how fans look at you guys,” Paul explains. “If we have people booing you for lying then it throws off the balance of all the stories we’re trying to create for you now and in the future.” He leans forward, “So I talked to a couple of the execs and writers and we think we’ve come up with a solution.”
Cody and Y/N remain silent but nod their heads, telling their boss they’re interested in what he’s come up with. If there’s any way Paul can fix this, they’re all ears. “We want you two to come out as a couple in Kayfabe.”
Silence.
Y/N’s mind buzzes with white noise. She should have expected this. It was a logical solution to their problem. But it doesn’t change the sudden wave of nerves that takes over her at the thought of being Cody’s girlfriend, even if it is just for storyline purposes. She voiced her concerns to him in the hallway about this exact situation. She didn’t want to become his sidekick that just supported him whenever he had a match.
“I can see a look of apprehension on your face,” Paul looks at Y/N with a fond smile. “What’s up?”
She looks at Cody for a moment before turning back to Paul, “I just don’t want us to be stuck in a romance trope for the next ten years,” she voices a little too bluntly. “No offense to them, but I don’t want this to turn into a Scarlett and Karrion situation where she’s only out there to support him. I want to continue fighting the same way I’ve been doing. I won’t be benched.”
Paul tilts his head endearingly, “I wouldn’t dream of benching you, Y/N. I wouldn’t do that to either of you. This whole thing will just be a subplot to everything you both have going on,” he clarifies. “You both are frequently seen together in the ring anyway, so this just makes it a bit easier to explain. We can easily say that the photo and gym session was going to be exposed anyway to reveal your relationship in the storyline. It’ll line up perfectly for the business and won’t affect your lives outside of it.”
Cody couldn’t help but stare at her. She seems relieved at the situation being presented. He will admit that it is the best case scenario. Neither of them are in trouble and they found a solution to their problem. It’s panning out wonderfully. He just gets to spend more time with the woman he’s considered his best friend since the day they met.
But it doesn’t change the fact that he’s become much more attune to the small things that make Y/N, Y/N. Like the little dimple on her right cheek that is much deeper than the one on her left side. Or the little mischievous smirk she sports when she knows something someone else doesn’t. Or the way her voice speeds up when she’s excited to talk about something she loves. Even the little divot in between her eyebrows that appears when she’s angry or anxious about something.
Are these all things best friends take note of? Is this normal? To suddenly become obsessed with the way she tilts her head when mocking someone, leaning in close when he catches a whiff of her signature perfume. He doesn’t know when she managed to set up camp in his mind, but she’s been a resident there for the past few weeks, and he’s not sure if he’ll ever be able to get her out.
Paul notices Cody’s eyes focused on the woman next to him and he can’t help but let a small smile show. He recognizes that look. It’s the same one he remembers sporting when he first realized he was in love with his boss's daughter. It’s clear they’re both not completely ready to admit how they feel, but maybe this storyline angle will push them in the right direction.
Paul clears his throat, swallowing any teasing remark he had locked and loaded to fire at Cody. The blonde man snaps out of his thoughts and turns back to Paul with a stiff nod. “Yeah, if you think it’s best for business, I don’t see why it would be a problem.”
Y/N agrees, “We can make it work. Whatever you give us, we’ll run with it and make sure even the people who know it’s fake believe it.”
Paul’s eyes flicker over to Cody with a smirk, pushing up his reading glasses as he goes to grab another stack of paper. “I’m sure you will… Now both of you get out of here. One of the on scene writers will bring you the new scripts for tonight.”
Y/N and Cody both thank their boss profusely before walking out of his office. It’s obvious Y/N is in much higher spirits walking out than she was walking in. “Well, that went better than I expected,” she says happily.
“Yeah, yeah it did.” Cody tries to reciprocate her excitement, but part of him feels like somewhere along this road something is going to happen that’s going to throw them all for a loop.

The reveal went better than they could have imagined. Fans were thrilled to see two of their favorite wrestlers admit their feelings for each other on screen. The writers did an incredible job building the story and telling them why they kept it a secret for as long as they did. It was received very well.
It’s been about a month since the big reveal and things couldn’t have been better for Cody and Y/N. They’ve been spending much more time together, most of their promos and matches involving the other as moral support. They’ve even started a storyline with Seth trying to poach Y/N from Cody, wanting her talent to be used to support him.
Tonight is one of the many charity galas that they get the pleasure to attend. Cody and Y/N were put in coordinating outfits, making them seem even more cohesive as an on screen couple than they already were.
The event was in full swing, everyone mingling and sharing lovely conversations. The two of them never drift very far from the other and whenever they’re together, one of them is always touching the other. Whether it’s Y/N having a hand on his chest or Cody keeping his hand leisurely on her waist or the small of her back.
Sometimes it got hard to tell the difference between the storyline and reality. Some days it really felt like they were an actual couple. Y/N didn’t realize how much she’d actually enjoy pretending to be in a relationship with him. There wasn’t a huge change from their usual dynamic besides the extra touches and kisses shared on screen. But the air between them had definitely shifted and neither of them knew what to do with it just yet. So they kept pretending it wasn’t there.
“Dang they really got you guys out here doing the most,” Phil Brooks walks up to them with a small smirk on his lips as he looks between the two younger wrestlers. “Matching outfits and everything.”
Cody laughs, his arm still comfortably around Y/N’s waist, “Gotta keep the fans happy, y’know?”
He looks in between them, a mischievous glint in his eyes, “I don’t know… you guys don’t seem too torn up about being attached at the hip,” he says teasingly.
Y/N chuckles, patting Cody’s chest with her freshly manicured nails, “It doesn’t feel much different than before,” she admits. “I’m sure he’ll piss me off eventually though.”
Cody smiles at her, “I’m sure I will too.”
Phil simply shakes his head with a knowing expression, “Careful,” he warns. “You guys keep looking at each other like that and people might start thinking this is more than just a storyline.”
And with that he walks away, leaving Cody and Y/N feeling slightly flustered though they don’t show it on the outside. They continue walking around the venue, trying the small treats here and there. Y/N grabs a mini cupcake she had noticed were Reese’s flavored before turning to Cody with a small grin. She holds the cupcake to his lips, knowing that Reese’s is his favorite candy.
Cody smiles, “Really?” He raises an eyebrow.
“Just eat it,” she huffs playfully.
Cody shakes his head but does as he’s told. He leans forward, eating the small delicacy from her hand. While he wishes he could focus on the explosion of flavor in his mouth, his focus only seems to be on her. How she’s staring at him like he’s the only other person in the room.
Her teeth sparkle underneath the lighting, “Was it good?”
“Yeah,” he replies, his mind in an otherworldly place. “Really good.”
Y/N notices the tiny bit of frosting that didn’t make it to his mouth, “Oh, you got a little something–” she reaches out, swiping it gently with her finger. Cody feels his body ignite with chills, their eyes meeting in such an intense way it makes him forget how to breathe.
Y/N pauses for a moment, her hand lingering near his face as they sit in the moment for a bit longer than necessary. Butterflies erupt in her stomach as Cody’s blue eyes bore into hers. He truly is the most handsome man she’s ever seen. Her mind runs on autopilot as she raises her finger to her mouth, sucking off the sugary icing. His eyes narrow as she does so, his pupils dilating. She smiles at him as if she wasn’t aware of the effect she just had.
“There,” Y/N says, her voice much quieter than before. “All better.”
Cody’s chest rises and falls with every bated breath as he tries to regain full control of his mind and mouth, “Thanks…”
“Of course,” she tilts her head, fixing his tie and smoothing over his suit. Her hands rest on his broad chest, loving the feeling of his muscles under her fingertips. “Can’t have my man walking around lookin’ like a mess, now can I?”
Her man.
That felt way too good and slipped off her tongue far too easily. He could get used to hearing that come from her. He’s tired of pretending like this little gimmick they have going on isn’t affecting their real relationship. It’s clear to anyone the different way they look at each other now. He would love to have her on his arm like this from here on out, but he has no idea how to approach that conversation.
“C’mon,” she nods over to a couple reporters who are asking questions to the talent. “We need to go do our interview.”
Before he has a chance to respond, her fingers are laced through his as she walks him over to one of the reporters. He’s not even sure he understood one word that came out of the journalist's mouth. The only time his hearing came back into focus was when Y/N was speaking. She would laugh, answer their question, and glance at Cody to see if he wanted to answer. They were on the fourth or fifth question by now, the American Nightmare not having uttered a word the entire time.
Y/N squeezes his bicep, “You okay?” She asks tentatively, knowing how overwhelmed he can get with press interviews at events like this. Her eyes shine with concern, silently telling him he can leave if he needs to take a breather.
It’s touching how well she knows him. He smiles, simply pulling her closer into him as he looks back at the interviewer. “Sorry, I swear, sometimes she walks into a room and I forget every word in the English language.” His compliment makes the woman questioning them coo. But there’s a deeper level under Cody’s words that steals the breath from Y/N’s lungs. It’s more than just for Kayfabe, but they can’t let anyone, including their colleagues know that. He glances back down at her, “She doesn’t even try, and somehow I’m standing here like I’ve never seen a beautiful woman before."
“Totally understandable,” the woman smiles. “She is definitely one of the most gorgeous women in the world. No one can blame you for getting caught up in that.”
Y/N feels herself becoming shy due to all the compliments being thrown her way, “Guys, you’re gonna inflate my ego…” she says, trying to make a joke out of it.
“Well, I only have one more question for you guys and you can go back to being WWE’s power couple for the night,” she looks down at her notepad. The interviewer leans forward, a knowing smile tugging at their lips. "So, you two have insane chemistry on screen — and let’s be honest, off screen too. Is there ever a moment you catch yourselves forgetting where the characters end and real life begins?"
Y/N lets out a soft laugh, playing it cool as she leans back in her chair. “I mean… that’s kind of the job, right? Sell the story, make people believe it.” She shoots Cody a quick sideways glance, teasing but guarded. “We’re just really good at our jobs.”
Cody’s smile twitches, like he’s holding back a laugh — or maybe something else. “Yeah,” he says slowly, thoughtful. “It’s… kind of funny, actually. Sometimes the line gets blurry. Not because we forget, but because it doesn’t always feel like we’re acting.”
Y/N blinks, her smirk faltering just for a second. The air between them tightens — barely noticeable to the camera, but tangible to anyone watching closely.
Cody doesn’t break eye contact. “We’ve known each other for years. That kind of bond doesn’t turn off just because the cameras are rolling. If anything, it makes the performances more honest.”
Y/N’s voice is quieter when she speaks next. “I guess when you trust someone that much, the feelings start to feel… real. Even if they’re not supposed to be.”
The interviewer raises a brow, sensing something. “So are you saying there are real feelings?”
Cody chuckles, looking down briefly, but his thumb taps anxiously against his knee. “I’m saying… there are moments where I look at her, and I forget the difference.”
Y/N’s breath catches, just for a second. Her smile returns, but it doesn’t quite reach her eyes this time.
“Well, thank you both for your time,” the woman smiles at them. “I’m looking forward to hopefully interviewing you both in the near future.”
“Us too,” Cody nods respectfully before moving to guide Y/N away by her waist. “Thank you.”
The two of them slip away and travel back to the heat of the party. They smile at their friends, sending polite nods to the people they aren’t as close with. Cody leans down to whisper in her ear, his gorgeous smile still plastered on his face. “You really threw me under the bus with that ‘real feelings’ bit,” he says playfully.
Y/N shrugged, cocking a brow. “What can I say? The fans love blurred lines.”
“Blurred, huh?” He looked at her then, head slightly tilted, the corner of his mouth twitching like he knew something she didn’t.
She rolled her eyes, pretending she wasn’t already hyper-aware of the heat rolling off him in waves. “Relax, Runnels. I didn’t tell them about that time you cried during The Notebook.”
He scoffed, grabbing the door and holding it open. “Once. I cried once. And Rachel McAdams was very convincing.”
The room was still buzzing but much more lowkey than before — the usual mix of tired talent, sparkling water, and event food passed off as fine dining. Y/N weaved her way to the snack table and grabbed a chocolate-covered strawberry, eyeing Cody from over her shoulder as he joined her with two drinks in hand.
“What?” she asked around a mouthful of strawberry, juice slipping unexpectedly onto her chest just as she bit into it.
Cody blinked, his gaze shifting downward. “You, uh—” He pointed vaguely. “You got a little… right there.”
Y/N looked down, groaning when she spotted the spot of red on the silky material just above her neckline. “Ugh. Of course I did.”
Without thinking, Cody reached for a napkin and stepped closer. “Here, I got it.”
She froze when his hand gently dabbed the spot, the fabric dipping slightly under the weight of his touch. Her breath caught. So did his.
Neither of them spoke.
The space between them thinned to something taut, like a rope pulled too tight.
His hand hovered a beat too long before they were interrupted.
“Well damn,” came a drawl behind them. “This still a PG show?”
They turned sharply to see Demi Bennett sauntering toward them with a knowing smirk. Matthew Adams stood beside her, brow raised in amusement.
Cody took a sharp step back, napkin still in hand. “It’s not what it looked like.”
“Oh, no,” Rhea teased, eyes flicking between them. “It looked exactly like what it looked like.”
“It was strawberry juice,” Y/N added quickly, wiping at her dress herself now. “He was just helping.”
Buddy snorted. “Helping, huh? That what we’re calling second base now?”
Y/N’s mouth opened in protest, but Cody beat her to it.
“Alright,” he said, half-laughing, half-grimacing. “Noted. No touching near fruit.”
Rhea just winked. “Next time, try grapes. Less messy.”
As the couple walked off, Y/N avoided Cody’s eyes and instead fixed her gaze on her dress. “Well. That wasn’t mortifying at all.”
Cody rubbed the back of his neck. “Nope. Totally normal. Just a guy helping a friend clean juice off her—chest.”
The air crackled with everything neither of them said.
Y/N looked up at him, a teasing spark in her eyes. “So, uh… you always that hands-on when it comes to helping friends?”
Cody smirked, but his voice was quieter now. “Only the ones I don’t wanna just be friends with.”
Her heart skipped. “What?”
But he was already walking away, tossing his cup in the trash without looking back. “C’mon. Let’s head back before someone else tries to bet on us.”
She stood frozen for a beat longer than she should’ve, chest tight and lips twitching with something she wasn’t ready to name. But her feet followed him anyway — straight into the night, straight toward the conversation neither of them could avoid any longer.
═══════•°• ⚠ •°•═══════
Once the party was over, everyone headed back to the hotel where they were staying for the weekend. Cody and Y/N bid their goodnights to their friends before traveling up to their shared room. They always shared rooms even before the whole dating fiasco, so that was nothing new.
What was slightly different was the way their hands never disconnected as they traveled back.
Cody slides his key into the mechanism of the door, a small click indicating it is now open. The two of them shuffle into the room, both letting out a relieved exhale at finally being able to lay down in a quiet space. The two full sized beds in the room are like heaven on earth for the two best friends.
Y/N falls face first into the mattress, not even bothering to try and take off her dress or shoes. Cody laughs at her dramatic behavior, loosening his tie before taking off his vest. “Yeah?”
Y/N simply grunts in response, the noise coming out muffled as her face is still buried in the comforter. Cody shakes his head, the smile never disappearing from his face. “Didn’t know spending an evening with me was so exhausting,” he teases, removing his long sleeve shirt, leaving his upper body and torso completely bare as he searches for his pajamas.
Y/N rolls her and body simultaneously. She sits up, looking at Cody but her breath gets caught in her throat. She’s used to seeing him shirtless due to the nature of their work, but it’s never been in an intimate environment like this. She also wasn’t expecting to flip over and come face to face with his god-like body.
She manages to find her voice, “I never said you were exhausting,” she corrects. “I just need like ten hours to myself to recover. I hate people.”
“You don’t hate people,” Cody laughs, throwing his shirt on. “You just hate being around them. Key difference.”
“Tomato, potato,” Y/N chucks her pillow at him as he collapses onto his own mattress.
Cody caught it midair with an exaggerated grunt. “Ah! Deadly.”
Y/N smirked, rolling onto her side, propping her head up on her hand. “You’re lucky I’m too tired to actually fight you.”
He gave her a sly grin, tossing the pillow back. “Oh, I’d win.”
“Ha!” she snorted, half-laughing. “Yeah, okay, Nightmare. I literally know all your moves.”
Cody stretched out on his back, arms folded under his head. “Nah. You don’t know all of them,” he said casually, a little too casually.
Y/N narrowed her eyes, tossing the pillow aside. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He smirked without looking at her, like he knew exactly what he was doing. “Just sayin’… I got a few tricks you haven’t seen yet.”
The room felt warmer suddenly. Y/N swallowed, her face heating up before she could stop it.
She sat up a little too quickly. “Anyway,” she cleared her throat, running a hand through her hair, “I should probably change or something.”
But Cody’s voice stayed soft, less teasing now. “Hey, Y/N.”
She paused, halfway off the bed. “Yeah?”
He pushed up on his elbows, watching her with an expression that made her stomach knot. “You okay?”
She blinked. “What? Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You’ve been…” He exhaled, scratching the back of his head. “I dunno. Since the day we got locked in that supply closet — you’ve kinda been pulling back a little.”
Y/N inhales, closing her eyes briefly as she thinks. It’s not that she’s been pulling back, it’s more along the lines of not knowing how to control herself and the growing feelings she was obtaining for her best friend. She sat down on the edge of her bed, chewing her lip. “I’ve just been trying to adjust to the new things that have been handed to us and our relationship,” she tells him, her eyes flickering in his direction. I guess I just feel like I don’t know how to act around you anymore,” she admitted quietly.
Cody’s brow softened. “Yeah.” He shifted, resting his arms on his knees, elbows propped forward. “Me neither.”
They both sat there for a beat, staring at the floor like it might explain what the hell was happening between them.
Y/N laughed under her breath, shaking her head. “This was supposed to be easy, you know? We’ve always been easy.”
Cody gave a small smile. “Yeah. Best friends, right?”
She glanced over at him, heart stuttering. “Right.”
His gaze met hers, and suddenly the air shifted — thick, humming, like neither of them wanted to say the next thing but both needed to.
Cody stood slowly, running a hand through his hair. “I keep thinking,” he began, voice low, “about how weird it is that it took some stupid accidental moments to make me realize how much I… care about you.”
Y/N’s breath caught. She turned fully, legs swinging off the bed, hands clenched nervously in her lap. “Cody…”
He stepped closer, almost hesitant, like he didn’t want to spook her. “I keep waiting for this to go back to normal. For us to laugh it off and move on. But I don’t want it to go back.”
Her throat felt tight. “Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
He gave a soft, almost helpless laugh. “Because I didn’t wanna mess this up.” His voice dropped to a near whisper. “You mean everything to me, Y/N.”
She stood slowly, heart pounding so loud she was sure he could hear it. “Cody, I—”
Before she could finish, he was there, right in front of her, one hand gently cupping her jaw, the other hovering like he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to touch her waist. His eyes searched hers, hesitant and vulnerable in a way few people ever saw from Cody Rhodes.
“I don’t wanna be just your friend anymore,” he murmured.
Y/N let out a shaky breath. “I don’t either.”
That was all it took.
His mouth met hers in a kiss that was slow, careful — like he was memorizing every second — but it didn’t take long before her hands tangled in his hair, pulling him closer, kissing him like she’d wanted to for weeks.
When they finally broke apart, Cody leaned his forehead against hers, smiling, breathless. “Well,” he said softly, “guess we’re not just platonic soulmates after all, huh?”
Y/N laughed, her heart full and wild. “Guess not.”
Cody chuckled low in his throat. “So… can I stay over here tonight, or do I still get my own bed?”
She raised a brow, playful now. “We’ll see.”
═══════•°• ⚠ •°•═══════
Backstage was buzzing — crew members running cables, wrestlers milling around in sweats and ring gear, trainers moving between rooms. Cody stood near one of the black crates, absentmindedly rolling his wrists, waiting for his cue.
Y/N appeared at his side, slightly breathless from her segment, her hair still pinned up from earlier. “They ran me long,” she murmured, exhaling as she tugged lightly at the uncomfortable neckline of her top. “I swear, I’m two seconds from ripping this thing off.”
Cody gave her a quick once-over, a small amused smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Don’t tempt me….”
Y/N snorted, elbowing him lightly. “Shut up.”
He just chuckled, watching her fiddle with a bobby pin. There was something easy between them — always had been — but lately, it sparked under the surface in ways neither of them could fully ignore anymore.
Without really thinking, Cody reached over and brushed a stray hair off her face, his fingers lingering just a little too long against her cheek.
Y/N froze slightly, her eyes lifting to his.
Cody shifted his weight, his voice dropping a little. “Y’know,” he said quietly, “we don’t gotta keep pretending we’re just best friends.”
She gave a small, nervous laugh. “I mean… we are best friends.”
“Yeah,” Cody murmured, his thumb grazing her jaw lightly. “But I’d say we’re a little more now too.”
Y/N’s breath caught, eyes flicking briefly to his mouth before darting away. Cody saw it — of course he saw it.
Screw it.
He slid a hand to the small of her back, gently pulling her closer, and pressed a kiss to her lips — soft, sure, no hesitation.
For a second, it was just them — quiet in the middle of the noise.
But then they heard the unmistakable throat-clear from behind.
“About damn time.”
Cody turned, arm still draped loosely around Y/N, to see Randy Orton leaning against a crate with an infuriating smirk on his face. Behind him, Kevin Steen and Rami Sebei pretended to be very engrossed in their phones, though the poorly hidden grins gave them away.
Y/N huffs a laugh, shaking her head. “Y’all are unreal.”
Randy shrugs, pushing off the crate. “What, you thought nobody noticed the way you two look at each other?”
Cody leans forward to kiss Y/N’s forehead, half laughing, half mortified.
“Hey,” Randy sticks his hand out to Kevin and Rami. “Pay up.”
Y/N gapes, laughing. “You bet on us?!”
Kevin gave a non apologetic shrug. “You weren’t exactly subtle.”
“We saw the way you two were looking at each other months ago,” Rami tells them.
“Congrats lovebirds,” Randy tells them as he and the guys start to walk off. “Just don’t get anymore sappy than you already are in the ring, yeah?”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Cody replies, fist bumping the Viper.
Y/N watches them go before looking up at Cody, still tucked against him, her cheeks warm. “I still can’t believe they bet on us.”
“Oh, sweetheart,” Cody drawled, brushing his thumb along her back, “I’m pretty sure half this locker room’s been waiting longer than we have.”
She smiled softly, resting her forehead lightly against his chest.
And just like that, there was no big announcement, no stage lights, no performative gesture — just two people standing backstage, in a stolen quiet moment, grinning like idiots because they were finally exactly where they wanted to be.

MasterList ML2

That morning the sun seeped through the blinds, waking up before the small alarm on the bedside table. Owen shifted, slowly waking up. He barely got any sleep as it was, but waking up with her in his arms made things just a little more barbel. He had worked late into the night the day before, working the busy ER and not even getting the chance to say goodbye to her before she left with Callie and Mark. He snuck in later that night, avoiding waking up their rescue German shepherd, and crawling into bed.
He held on to her, cuddling her as long as the morning would let him, dreading the moment their alarm would start screaming at them.
When the alarm did go off, y/n slept through it like usual. There wasn't even a twitch or any sound of her breath hitching. Like usual she couldn't be bothered by the alarm. It's a miracle she doesn't miss pages from the hospital.
After a few minutes of the alarm clock blaring, Owen groaned and slowly sat up, glancing over at her sleeping figure. He was used to her being able to sleep through the alarm clock, hell he often had a hard time trying to wake her up. He ran a hand through his ginger locks and lightly shook her, gently trying to wake her up.
“Mm” y/n groaned, reaching over towards the bedside table without leaving his arms and hitting the snooze button, shutting the little bastard up.
Owen lightly chuckled, wrapping his arms tighter around her. He moved one of his hands up and began tracing random shapes on her bare back, trying to coax her awake. As much as he would’ve loved to lay in bed with her all day, he knew that they both had busy schedules with work. He leaned down and began planting soft kisses across her neck, trying to get a reaction out of her. He let his hand wander, letting his hand rub up and down her bare thigh.
Y/n smiled softly, slowly waking up. Then his lips traveled down her neck near the chain around her neck. It was hidden underneath her shirt, but it was his dog tags from when he was in the army. He didn't know she started wearing them. He lightly smiled, his heart swelling as he found she was wearing his dog tags. He didn’t even think she knew he had them, but there they were against her skin, the small silver tags laying across her chest. He began tracing little kisses across her shoulder and collarbone, nuzzling his head into the crook where her shoulder and neck met.
Owen moved so he was lying on top of her, his arms still wrapped around her with their sheets bunched up across his waist. Owen pressed more kisses along his jawline, then to her cheek and up to her ear as he whispered softly. “You’re wearing my tags” Owen said gently, his breath against her ear sending another shiver down her skin.
Y/n looked up at him as he pulled the tags from under her shirt. “Y-yeah. Are you upset?” she asked softly, knowing the army was a sore subject.
He smiled softly, cupping her cheek in his hand. He lightly shook his head and leaned down so he was almost nose to nose with her. “No, no I’m not upset. I’m actually pretty glad to see you wearing them” Owen leaned down and softly nuzzled down against her neck again, nipping at the skin underneath his lips. It was a sight that he never knew he needed until now.
“Are you sure?” she asked softly. “I found them a couple of months ago in the dresser when I was putting clothes away”
Owen lifted his head, his blue gaze locking with hers. The expression on his face was soft, a look that he only seemed to have with her. He moved a few locks of hair from her face and shook his head again. “I’m sure,” Owen reassured her, his hand moving back to cup her cheek. “You can wear them whenever you like, I don’t really wear them anymore anyway”
“Well, you can have them back whenever you want”
Owen lightly shook his head and chuckled, running his thumb across her cheek. He was fine letting her wear them, it actually gave him a sense of comfort knowing that she was wearing a small piece of his past around her neck. He leaned down and began nipping teasingly at her lip before leaning back to look at her. “No, you can keep them. I’m fine with you wearing them”
“Just makin' sure... I know all of that is a sour subject” she said softly.
He softly sighed, resting his forehead against hers, his gaze never leaving hers. He knew what she was thinking, she knew that it was a touchy topic for him, and usually not one he liked to talk about. But being with her…it was different, it made it easier. He slowly moved a hand from her cheek downwards, trailing a finger across the chain that was looped around her neck, holding his dog tags against her skin. “I’m fine. You don’t have to worry”
Y/n cupped both sides of his jaw, gently rubbing her thumb over the scruff on his cheeks. “I love you,” she whispered and placed a quick soft kiss on his lips. “My hero,” she whispered.
Owen closed his eyes as she rubbed her thumb over his cheek, leaning into her touch. He loved this side of her, more open, more vulnerable. It was one of his favorite things about her.
Her voice pulled him out of his thoughts and he opened his eyes, to look down at her, he hummed at the words, and the fact that he was her hero, that she looked to him like that. “I love you too, sweetheart”
Y/n sighed softly, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I guess we have to go to work now, huh?”
He groaned softly, wrapping his arms around her waist and letting his body weight sink down against her, and he buried his face in the crook of her neck, leaving soft kisses against your skin. “Mm, I don’t want to go”
“Me neither, but we gotta, Have a surgery scheduled today”
Owen sighed again, he knew she was right, but he didn’t want to give up the warmth of her body against his, the feeling of her under him, he groaned a little louder when he finally lifted his head to look at her. “I don’t like that you’re making sense”
Y/n chuckled softly, running her fingers through his red hair. “come on, soldier”
He hummed, his eyes closing at the feeling of her fingers in his hair, he was practically melting in her hands. He knew you were right, he needed to act like a professional adult, but he was hating it. “I’m tired, give me five more minutes”
“Alright, Five minutes, ” y/n rolled her eyes playfully. “but only because I'm not looking forward to spending hours in the OR with yang”
Owen hummed, satisfied with her response. He nuzzled his head back down against her neck.
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
For some background for these two you must know this. Christian was indeed a good surgeon and extremely smart, but she wasn't exactly a kind person. During her intern year she would be cocky and cold, especially to the people in her intern class. People like George O'Malley and y/n Gray. They were more soft spoken then she was and they weren't surgery hungry like Christina and Meredith.
Y/n usually ignored her and didn't let Christina get under her skin. She especially wouldn't say anything when Christina became best friends with her cousin Meredith Grey. Christina didn't change and continued to be cold and mean towards Shelby. Even into their resident years at the hospital. Then it only seemed to get worse when Christina became close friends with Owen.
Y/n never knew what she did to make Christian hate her so much, but she decided to be a better person and never escalate anything. She was her cousin's best friend and as much as y/n loved her cousin Meredith, she didn't have the heart to tell her about her problems with her best friend Christina.
Y/n was a pediatric resident, Christina thought it was a weak specialty for a doctor, she also thought she was smarter because she chose cardio. Unfortunately her and Christina both were assigned a young patient that needed heart surgery today. The new cardio attending would be in on the surgery too since Arizona couldn't supervise. Y/n hadn't spoken to her yet, she stood next to the attending though while they scrubbed in for the surgery. Her face was already covered by the mask and her hair was hidden under a scrub cap with birds.
The attending seemed nice though, by the look in her eyes so to speak. Christina on the other hand gave y/n the cold shoulder. It was so tense that there was so much silence. She tried to make it like a subtle threat as she spoke with y/n. “I'm the lead in here so you just follow my instructions. Okay?” And just like that she walked over to the operating table grabbing gloves and instruments. She started to prep the patient.
“Wow,” the attending finally spoke up. “ain't she just a little rain of sunshine” she snickered underneath the surgical mask.
“Yeah” y/n rolled her eyes, taking her engagement ring off and putting it in her pocket then pulled Owen's dog tags over her head to put them away too for the surgery. The attending noticed. “you served?”
Y/n looked up, surprised at the question. She realized now she could get that question now and wondered if someone might take it the wrong way. “um, no… They're my finances. He served in Iraq” she blushed, feeling slightly embarrassed. “I guess I'm kinda weird. I steel dog tags instead of clothes”
The attending let out a light hearted laugh. “I served in Iraq too, what's his name?”
“Owen Hunt”
She let out a soft chuckle, nodding. “you must be y/n then, nice to finally put a face to the name”
“then I'm guessing your Teddy?”
“Owen said you'd got the cardio job here, welcome to Seattle Grace… It's a shit show” I joked.
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
“Hey,” y/n said, walking out of the ER where Owen was waiting for an ambulance with a couple of traumas. She smiled as Owen leaned down, pecking her on the lips. “Oh, yeah. Teddy started today, how come you didn't tell me?” she unbothered.
Owen shrugged as smirked tugged at his lips. “Well you didn't exactly give me a chance to break the news this morning”
“I suppose you're right” y/n rolled her eyes playfully. “she seems nice, she was the attending assigned to my surgery”
“Yeah, she's great,” Owen said, shrugging.
Great was almost becoming overkill. She just seemed to be perfect, y/n respected her as a surgeon, but y/n found herself unable to call her a true friend. She wasn't a ride or die like Callie or Mark. After Teddy moved to Seattle she started hanging out more at Owen and y/n's apartment. It didn't bother her, she was glad Owen had his best friend back. She also kinda turned a blind eye to the way Teddy would laugh at Owen's bad jokes or get a little too touchy. Who was y/n to judge? Her best friend was male, y/n would stand close to Mark, share food, and if they were tired enough after a surgery together crash on the same on-call room bed.
Y/n trusted Owen and he trusted her. They were getting married in a few months and neither one could bring themselves to get jealous of each other's best friends. In the end Teddy was a good person and y/n knew that, the two slowly started to get used to each other and became good friends. Y/n thought things were going good, that was until Christina started working with Teddy more. That didn't bother y/n, her focus was Peds, what bothered her was Teddy started treating her differently. Being dismissive and cold. Only coming by y/n and Owen's apartment when y/n wasn't home.
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
Then one day Christina decided to drop the bomb. A couple residents were hanging around a nurses station, looking into a patient's window. She had driven this other girl's car off the road because she found out this girl was having an affair with her husband. Jackson and Meredith were rambling on about it then Christina jumped in, speaking before thinking. “I mean… Altman admitted she liked Hunt”
Y/n shot Christina a look. “Wait, what?”
Christian let out a surprised, condescending laugh. “Oh, shit. You didn't know?”
“When the hell was this?”
“It was a long time ago,” Jackson said, trying to make the situation less serious.
Y/n shot Christina a look. “I know you're not a girls girl, but it's just fucking common decency to let me know when my fiancé's best friend is trying to get into his pants”
She shrugged, feeling some sort of joy at this. “You’re right. I’m not.” Jackson and Meredith shifted uncomfortably next to them.
“Whatever” she shook her head, looking back down at her patent chart. Y/n wasn't bothered. Owen and her were getting married next year and she knew he wasn't cheating.
Christian had to get the last say, “I doubt Hunt’s gonna stick with you that long.” Jackson elbowed her arm sharply, but it was too late. Everyone around them heard.
The entire room went quiet as y/n looked up. Jackson tried to back paddle. “She’s just kidding.”
“Yeah, whatever Jackson” y/n snapped her patient chart closed and stood up. “defend her” she sighed, standing up and walking away.
“y/n-” Jackson began, sighing in frustration as she walked away from him and the group.
Meredith shot Christina a look. “That was harsh, even for you.”
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
A few hours passed and y/n was off the clock. She was hiding up in one of the OR galleries, catching up on some patient charts. My pager would beep, but I'd just ignore it when I saw the names that would pop up. After the last beep, I didn't even look at it and kept working. I heard footsteps next, I looked up and saw Owen. “Hey. What are you doing up here?” He sat in the empty seat next to her.
“I'm Just working on some paperwork,” she shrugged. “it's quiet up here, no more surgeries are scheduled over here”
Owen looked at her, noticing something was off with her. “You okay?”
“Why didn't you tell me Teddy admited that she was in love with you?”
Owen was surprised at her question. He didn't expect it. “How, how do you? Who told you?”
“Yang of all people,” she rolled her eyes then spoke up again in a calm tone. “So, why didn't you tell me?”
Owen sighed. He didn't tell y/n because he already suspected how she was gonna react and was expecting her to ask that question to him. “Because, I wasn't gonna tell you because it doesn't matter to me. What Teddy feels shouldn't concern you. I'm with you. Not her”
“Yeah, but we need to have these conversations,” y/n said softly. “but it's no secret. you guys this long history and she understands you better than I ever could”
Owen grabbed her shoulder and turned her softly so she would be facing him. “Don't say that about yourself. You and me have a history too. Just because Teddy and I went to war together doesn't mean that she knows me better than you. You and I have a different connection. You get me, y/n. You understand me” He said firmly and tucked her hair behind her ear. “and besides, that's a lie”
“what?”
“that Teddy understands me,” Owen said. “she never really tried too, but you. You got those kinda eyes that can look right through the bullshit To the good in someone. You always saw the good in me”
Y/n smiled softly, leaning forward and kissing him softly. “This means everything to me, you mean everything. I don't just let random girls walk around with my dog tags”
Y/n chuckled softly, resting her forehead against his. “I love you”
“I love you too”

This all started when you and Sami were on the Smackdown brand, Nick pitched the idea for Sami to join the bloodline for awhile but you wasn't too fond of the idea; but knowing how Sami loves to please people, he agreed to do it;
You looked over at Sami "Babe are you sure about doing this?"
"Yes, Y/n" Sami answered as he started put tape on his wrists
"Sami I'm not sure about you doing this, what if they come after me just because I'm your girlfriend"
"Don't worry Y/n, I won't let them go near you" Sami tells you as he kisses your head then walks out his locker room
You sighed as you sat on the couch to watch the show, you saw on the TV as he walked into the Bloodline's locker room which made you face palm; you love Sami but sometimes he does things without thinking about what could happen after.
"Roman, how you doin?" Sami asks as the Bloodline look at him weirdly
"Hey, good to see you. Can I start first and foremost by saying I acknowledge you, I do. I acknowledge you I gotta say I'm a big fan, the stuff you have been doing recently with all the smashing and superman punching; it is great. You know there is no dispute Roman Reigns; head of the table no question about it, you know what some people sometimes forget that Sami Zayn in addition to being the master strategist, is also the locker room leader"
Jey and Paul look at Sami weird as Roman looks down at the ground
Sami continued talking "Yeah and you got your locker room here you're not worried about all these things that's fine, but I actually hear and see everything that's going on out there. Just let me give you an example; earlier I happen to catch Drew McIntyre getting real chummy with RK-Bro, RK-Bro have a title unification match with the Usos if I'm not mistaken, right? Well now all of the sudden now they're going to be lumberjacks in my match tonight, It's really unbelievable"
Sami took a breath before he continued, "Um, look I would never snitch, I'm not a rat; that's just not who I am. But, I I happen to hear them say some very disrespectful things about your entire family. Really, I- It's, Look I guess, I guess this all brings me to a little bit of a proposal, okay? See my name, my reputation, as of late has taken hit after hit; and now it's even worse because people actually think I'm afraid of Drew McIntyre, which I am not. What I need more than anything is to beat Drew McIntyre, to regain my creditably, to regain my respect I am owed. I need to beat Drew McIntyre, so I guess what I'm getting at is that if there was some way maybe I could get help with that? Well, I would be more than happy to help out in return"
As Sami left the Bloodline locker room Roman can be seen thinking about what Sami said, fast forward to May 27th you was talking to Sami as the Usos stopped in front of you guys. You looked over at Sami;
"I'll talk to you later" you rubbed his arm and smile before walking away
"Love you" Sami called out after you
"I love you too" you said before you turned the corner
The camera comes into view as the segment begins while Sami speaks first, "Now I feel like I'm putting in a lot of work here, and I'm just not sure if I'm getting the same level of respect back, okay? So we don't need to keep doing this you can just tell me the truth here, what do you think of me? I mean what am I to you? 'Cause this is what I'm thinking, okay? What if, I don't know, What if I joined up with the Bloodline?"
Jey laughed as Sami continued "No, I'm not, I understand you guys are blood, it's fine. It's fine, I don't mean, what if I was I don't know like a honorary member? "
"Sure, honorary Uce" Jimmy says looking at Sami
"Yeah?" Sami asks happily
"Yeah, why not?" Jimmy looks at Jey
Sami points at Jimmy then at Jey "You're a smart man, you guys are smart, this is the right choice, this is the right choice" Sami says the last part pointing to the titles on their shoulders
"Listen, you need anything I got you, okay? And if I ever need anything-"
"You ain't even gotta say it Uce" Jimmy cuts off Sami
"I got you Uce" Sami tells them as they walk into the Bloodline locker room
Sami walks into his locker room to see you sitting on the couch so he kisses your head before sitting down, you look over at Sami;
"Babe, are you sure you know what you're getting yourself into?"
"Yes Y/n, I know" he held your hand rubbing it to reassure you he knew what he was doing
"I'm trusting you about this Sami"
On June 3rd, the camera was in the sound truck on Sami; he played Roman's theme to distract Riddle so Jey could get the three count. Sami was acting a fool bouncing around when Jey got the three count, he made you chuckle as you watched it on the TV in the catering area by yourself.
August 5th, Sami was talking to the Usos in the hallway; "I gotta go talk to Roman now before he has to go out there, okay?"
Jey paced around as Jimmy looks at Sami to speak "Look Uce, it ain't going to happen tonight"
"Oh my god, are you kidding me?" Sami threw his hands up in the air
"I'm just-" Jimmy starts but Sami cuts him off
"Come on man, you're giving me the run around all night. Come on man am I apart of this group or not? Am I not the honorary Uce?"
Jey snaps "You want the truth? The truth is the Bloodline leveled up at Summer Slam bruh, Roman two titles, the Usos four title. If you don't start pulling your weight around here, Uce we gonna make you take that shirt off real soon."
After he spoke he walked away so Jimmy looks at Sami and shakes his head. After that the past few weeks Sami has been taking hit after hit; whether it's a claymore from Drew, harsh words from Jey Uso, hits from their opponents, yelling from Roman, etc. Sami was getting tired but he promised to never go back on his word. Sami got the 'Honorary Uce' shirt and you loved to see his smile but that gut feeling from the start never left. You didn't know to either be sacred for him because of the gut feeling or feeling fine because he was smiling.
It now was now October 28th and after his promo with the Bloodline he came back to his personal locker room to spend time with you, with everything going on with the Bloodline he just lost his best friend Kevin Owens;
"Ucey? Really?" You ask with a chuckle as he walked in
He shared a chuckle with you as he kissed you on the head to greet you
"Y/n I need to talk"
"You know I'm always here, what's going on?" you stopped getting ready and turned to him
"I don't know if I can do this anymore; I just lost Kevin, I'm constantly getting hurt taking the bullet for them, and getting treated like I'm nothing. I know I'm the honorary Uce but I still feel like what I'm not doing is enough and will never be enough for them" he sighs looking at you
"Sami love, I told you from the start about how I felt about you doing this storyline and you should've listened to me but what's done is already done. Sami you are smart and you know that so do what you feel is right, and for Kevin you can't really blame him look at what y'all did to him. That's something you and Kevin are going to have to work out personally"
After Survivor Series Sami has been going through hell, it's like he was brainwashed by Roman and Sami stayed because of his word. Sami went through a trial with the Bloodline on Smackdown which was also stressing him out but he kept it a secret because he didn't want you to worry about him. One good thing is Jey finally came around to liking Sami which took some stress off of him but knowing Roman he still needed to keep his guard up.
Fast forward to the Royal Rumble Sami was being pushed around and treated like a dog which upset you, you sighed as you watched on the tv;
"Listen to your heart Sami" you said out loud as you continued to watch
"OH MY GOD!" you covered your mouth as you watched Sami smack Roman in the back with the steel chair
You was shocked but happy he followed your advice even though he couldn't hear you. After that Sami could be seen talking to Jey for the past few weeks on Smackdown that eventually led up to Sami fighting Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber, which Sami got beat up but like always you was still proud of him for standing his ground; but the storyline with the Bloodline was far from being done with. Jey recently turned on Sami and the betrayal he felt hurt his heart but Cody Rhodes came down to the ring to stop the Usos from jumping Sami.
Now all Sami has is you and Cody, but you kept an close eye on Cody because of everything that Sami has been through you can't trust anyone who comes to him to help him. But one person you always trusted was Kevin Owens because of how close both of your families are outside of wrestling, and right before Wrestlemania Kevin came back and forgave Sami and they challenged the Usos for both tag titles.
It's Wrestlemania 39 night 1 and you are watching Sami and Kevin on the TV by the curtain, Sami gave Jey three helluva kicks while Kevin gave Jimmy a stunner when he tried to get in the ring to save Jey. Sami pinned Jey getting the 3 count making him and Kevin win the tag titles for the very first time, they were emotional in the ring while you was emotional backstage being so happy for Sami. They came backstage still emotional and you was the first person that Sami went to;
"I'm so proud of you baby" you cried as you hugged Sami
Sami hugged you back and poured out all his emotions to you before letting go, Kevin walked to you giving you a hug too while he was still also emotional.
"Congrats you deserve this too Kev, I'm proud of you guys" you smiled hugging Kevin
"Thank you" Kevin told you as he let go of the hug
After they won the tag titles you guys watched the cracks start to form in the Bloodline, the Usos constantly started to disappoint Roman over and over again weekly; now Sami and Kevin are done with the Bloodline at least for now. Sami and Kevin been busy defending their tag titles but they lost them to the Judgement Day in September of '23 in a street fight.
It's now the year of 2024 and Sami was seen talking to Jey one week then talking to Solo the next, this is the last thing that you wanted him to do; getting involved with the Bloodline drama again. Did Sami listen? Nope, at Crown Jewel he got involved in the Bloodline's match to help Roman and the Usos but he accidentally kicked Roman, so the following Smackdown they talked it out and stood together again as the 'Og Bloodline'.
CM Punk was introduced into the drama because of the War Games match that was coming up, the 'Og Bloodline' needed a fifth member so Paul Heyman called Punk and he accepted. Now Sami being in the 'Og Bloodline' has it's perks; with you being Sami's real life girlfriend, they also looked out for you while Sami is helping them again. But they agreed to one condition which was you wanted nothing to do with the Bloodline drama and for them to protect Sami; that was the only way you would accept their protection proposal. After the 6man tag that happened in January 2025 Sami's part was finally over.
You looked over at Sami, "It's over, I don't want you in no more of this Bloodline stuff. It's done Sami, now it's time to just focus on yourself because I don't want you breaking your back for them and them not returning the favor"
"For now you have my word"
"For now is better than never"

• Austin Theory x Reader
Summary: Being Austin and Grayson's manager and telling them not to get in Kevin Owens' face, but they don't listen.

_________________________________________
Walking backstage with Austin and Grayson, they are talking about how Kevin said they have punchable faces.
"What does he mean by my face is punchable? Not this gorgeous face."
I roll my eyes at Austin. Grayson smacks his arm and they stop walking. I am standing behind them looking up at them.
"Maybe we should go find him and confront him about this!"
Austin smiles big and shakes his head yes.
"Let's go do it! This is a great idea."
"Boys this is a terrible idea."
I walk in between them and put my hand on Austin's chest looking up at him. He looks down at me.
"Y/N. Baby. It's a good idea. I don't know what you are talking about. We are so doing this."
They continue walking around looking for Kevin. I roll my eyes and follow behind them. They see him standing against the wall as Logan Paul says something to him and walks off.
"Boys don't do this."
They walk up to Kevin not listening to me. I stand next to Grayson, arms crossed, looking at them and Kevin than at the camera guy.
"SO what is this about us having punchable faces?"
"I don't think we have punchable faces! Do you?"
"I don't think we do!"
Kevin starts laughing at them.
"Yeah you guys do have punchable faces. That's a fact. Ya know what? I bet I could punch both of you at the same time!"
They start arguing louder and louder. I move out of the way towards the wall. Soon, security comes and starts breaking them apart. Kevin starts talking to Jamie Noble about how he can punch them at the same time. The boys turn towards me kinda lined up next to each other talking about how he can't do it. Kevin walks back over and punches both of them across the face.
Grayson and Austin fall to the ground holding their faces while I'm standing there, arms crossed, watching them lay on the ground.
"I told you! I told you I could punch them both!"
Kevin turns towards me, puts his hand on my shoulder and shakes it a little out of excitement. I look at Kevin and shrug my shoulders.
"I told them not to come over here. But they never listen to me."
"Maybe they will start listening to you now. You're welcome."
Kevin pats my shoulder than leaves talking to Jamie about what just happened. I look down at the boys and shake my head.
"Get up. Let's go get some ice for your faces."
They get up and follow me to their locker room. I get some ice packs from the little freezer and some towels. I walk over to the boys and hand them their ice packs.
"Put them on your faces. Hopefully you will feel better."
Austin stands up and kisses my cheek. I look up at him.
"I.... We will start listening to you more often. We promise."
"We promise Y/N!"
I look back at Grayson than at Austin. I put my hand on Austin's chest and kinda grab his white tank top. He looks down at me with a little smirk on his face. I pull his shirt a little pulling him down to my face.
"You don't listen to me one time, from now on, you will be punished. And you ain't gonna like the consequences."
I whisper in his ear so Grayson can't hear me. Austin smirks a little looking down at me as I let go of his shirt.
"Oh I promise babe. I will always listen to you."
He sits back down on the couch and I sit on the chair next to Austin looking over at them.....
God these idiots.

Worth More ☝️
[[GIF NOT MINE! ALL DIVIDERS MADE BY CAFEKITSUNES]]
Author note: I've been meaning to write these two for awhile actually just never had the push till now. So anon, this is for you! Also I will not even try to replicate how Jey talks (don't know if it would come off wrong). This is for all my samijey lovers, I see the appeal and I'm here for it! Also sorry for any grammar mistakes!
Word count: 2,637
Warning: mild/reference to Kevin and Sami, comfort, confessions, first kiss, and family drama
Summery: After being reunited with Jey thanks to the Judgement Day, Sami begins to contemplate some very glaring problems with his friendship with Jey. And without Kevin around he has a lot less people he's close to for comfort after losing to Bron Breakker.
Sami has always been a loyal man no matter the person, whether it be returning the favor to Dragunov or going out of his way to help former allies or people he aligned himself with. This was especially the case for Kevin Owens and now Jey Uso. He could recall the Bloodline days like yesterday, a distant painful memory of what was.
He could remember how hard and long it had taken to form a trustworthy spot within the faction as an outsider. Especially when it came to Jey who was the only one (aside from Roman secretly) who had refused to accept him as part of the group. His twin brother was chill and easy to chat with but Jey was always so closed off and stoic as his baby brother like he was afraid of letting anyone but family in.
What had begun as Sami wanting to be part of something to connect to people in a way that he hadn't been able to do since Kevin began doing other ventures, then it all began to bleed into the truth of the dynamic. The verbal abuse, the manipulation, and the ego of the Tribal Chief. The chained leashes of everyone in the Bloodline to be kept in line by the ever dominant force that was Roman Reigns. It was like a minefield. Anything, even something as small as a hint of attitude or questioning could get you tipping on the edge of the Chief’s wrath.
Everyone was on edge even with the laughs and good times shared between the group because of the ever lingering threat of the Tribal Chief’s temper and pushing your luck. If he even sensed you were becoming too comfortable within the family he was pushing the boundaries ensuring his own power stayed.
What was worse was Sami felt stuck at the time from fear of his wrath and not wanting to lose that meaningful connection he had created within the Bloodline. It was a cycle of manipulation and guilt that even for someone like the Canadian, it felt to hard to push back from. What he feared more for though was losing Jey.
Jey had become a close friend once the heat had settled and he had accepted him as part of the faction, even becoming closer to him then his older twin Jimmy.
What had started as a friendly companionship started to drop down beyond casual touches and lingering glances. It was something he knew well from his relationship and former partnership with his best friend Kevin. The line between his platonic feelings began to step over to a dangerous sentiment of love.
However these newfound feelings were teetering on the edge of danger with the dynamics of the Bloodline not only because he was an outsider but because Roman was fiercely protective of his family. Or that's how he painted the picture but he knew better than to believe the manipulation played by him now that he had begun to see his true colors.
Roman was power hungry and willing to treat his family with calculated gaslighting and deceit. Everything was subtle but it sent the message of who held the reigns (pun unintentional) and the atmosphere started to feel suffocating for Zayn and Jey.
Even with Romans abusive ways, Zayn kept his friendship with Jey closely knitted like something he was needed to protect at all costs. It went between keeping Jey in line the more he began to snap back in frustration at Roman and being the other man's rock. And in return the younger twin had reciprocated those protective gestures especially during the interrogation between him and the Bloodline where Sami nearly got struck by a Samoan spike.
Following Tribal Court he had snuck into SmackDown to give his thanks to him for the save and during their brief exchange he had thrown in a playful but sincere ‘I love you’ towards Jey. At the time it had been platonic but then he heard the Samoan return the sentiment back. God if he wasn't already smiling like an idiot he felt his heart do a leap and grinned knowingly when he caught Jey's subtle reaction to his own slip up.
Though come Royal Rumble of 2023, it had all culminated into a full circle.
Years and months of abuse and manipulation from Reigns had pushed Sami to do the one thing no one else in the Bloodline wanted to do. Defy the Tribal Chief.
In the heat of the moment Sami had been pushed and pushed till he could no longer take the bullying or the sight of his best friend motionlessly cuffed at the mercy of this tyrant. In his emotional outburst he had snapped and within the moment Roman turned his back..he had swung on him.
The attacks from the Bloodline still lingered like an irreversible trauma to his psyche but one thing engraved in his mind was that Jey refused to indulge or even look at the vicious beating of Sami. Should the Canadian have felt angered by the lack of help? Maybe in other people's eyes, but in his own eyes he had pushed a domino effect in hopes of breaking his friend out of the abuse of the family dynamic.
Each attack from everyone had felt like a knife to the heart from the brainwashing and hold over the Head of the Table had over everyone in his family. But in the end he knew making himself an enemy of the Bloodline was what was best to push Jey to start breaking away from his cousin.
To protect two men who meant the absolute world to him.
After his fallout with the Bloodline his interactions with Jey had become less frequent aside from sparse backstage moments but what he was more happy about was watching his friend gain such a cult following. It filled him with joy watching how much the fans had grown to love him and how Jey had come into his own since the days of the Bloodline.
With Jey on the same brand as him there were more chances to get time to make sure the other man was doing fine. It still worried Sami that Jey was still catching his footing as a singles competitor now without the backing of his family in his corner. He tried to give comfort in small gestures of reassuring words and keeping other people on SmackDown from being upset due to the past Bloodline association.
Not to mention his best friend Kevin wasn't entirely fond of Jey sticking around which he could understand considering his and Sami's past with the Bloodline. But as always he played peacemaker making sure Kevin didn't get aggressive with Jey being around. His friend could be unpredictable and it wasn't easy to regain his trust (as ironic as it sounds).
However things between them were complicated and got even more so when Kevin ended up being traded to Raw while Sami was left without his best friend in his corner. And to top it all off he had to watch Jey tag team with Cody like they were buddy buddy in the way Sami had been with the other man. Internally he was seething, struggling with his feelings and the sight of someone else being so close and friendly with Jey when he had tried so hard to get him to be his friend.
..Wait as he,,jealous?
Fuck…
July 19, 2024, SmackDown
During one of his interviews Sami had paused among hearing a commotion somewhere backstage and began to move off to the sound of the problem hoping Bron hadn't gone after someone again. No wait..he recognized that gear.
Sami quickened his pace and discarded the championship with no second thought as he after the Judgement Day who were attacking Jey. His motions were quick in driving them off as he went after JD, quickly slamming the other man into the table out of anger before Carlito moved to tug his team mate from the Canadian.
Once they were out of sight he turned towards Jey placing a hand on his arm and his other on his chest as he steadied him. “You alright, uce?” Zayn questioned the familiar term slipping like it used to back in their Bloodline days.
“Yeet.” Was all he managed to get out the other man but with his frustrated motion over his head, he could tell Jey was far from alright.
Oh they were going after Judgment Day for this.
And they made good on their team up even without being a tag team officially they had an undeniable chemistry that went beyond a casual pairing up. They worked well off each other like a well oiled team and made good work of the Judgment Day within minutes.
Once the bell rang Zayn was quick to slide into the ring as he got in his knees checking on Jey still laying on the canvas. He felt Jey grabbing at his back as he held him and carefully helped him up with a hand casually brushing his waist as they stood. He leaned heavily into the other man's body feeling disoriented and old feelings resurface as Jey held him close to himself.
It felt like the first real win in the weeks of his friends and allies constantly getting wrecked by a certain hot tempered wrestler.
As soon as the thought came and his guard slipped he turned right into a spear by Bron who had seized both men being distracted to attack Zayn yet again. While Bron slid out the ring he noticed Jey quickly moving to his side sending the other man a look they made Sami's heart race.
—------
August 5, Monday after SummerSlam
The loss of his Intercontinental Championship still stung like a loss he hadn't felt in a long time. It made him feel a sense of failure even if he had already asked for a rematch. He was frustrated with his own inability and couldn't shake the loss from his mind.
That was till Jey came over.
Each word of encouragement and Jey pressing to boost his confidence like how he had done for him so many times within the Bloodline and after he had broken away from them. The conviction and belief in Jey’s voice made Sami light up and their usual banter came as natural as ever.
“Me and you? We got some unfinished business with the Judgement Day Uce, you can be a double champ man.” Jey kept poking him and grinned like an idiot as he gave Sami a knowing look. Oh. Did he remember the frustration he had when he was with Cody as tag team champs?
The thought brought a small smile to Sami's face almost subconsciously.
“Yeah, you like that huh?” The Samoan asked with a knowing look and chuckled lowly almost husky with a teasing undertone.
The tone and way Jey put that had went straight to Sami’s core and he swallowed, composing himself with a firm nod. Their familiar handshake followed after the banter as they chuckled among each other.
“God, I missed you.” Sami admitted with a softer tone and gingerly touched his friend's arm with a warm smile. “Thank you Jey.” He wasn't sure what he'd do without Jey by his side now that Kevin wasn't around as much with different brands and Randy.
“No problem, uce just returning the favor if you know what I mean.” Jey playfully hit him in the chest with the back of his hand as he chuckled out in amusement but his tone held a level of sincerity that made his heart flutter.
The quiet that followed wasn't awkward but more so soaking in the familiar presence of each other after so long of being apart.
“So..” Zayn began slowly as he moved himself back and forth on his heels, turning his gaze back to Jey who quirked a brow in curiosity. “You want to go to Waffle House after this?” He grinned widely as he nudged him in the arm with his own.
“You asking me out on a date, man?”
“What? No i- I was just saying-”
Sami's embarrassed sputtering and attempts to back pedal were met with a loud laugh by the other man who rolled his eyes. His face felt so hot and his heart drummed like he had been asked the most embarrassing thing in his life.
“C’mon Remi don't be coy with me, man. I see the way you look at me I ain't blind y'know?” Jey teased good heartily and stepped closer to him with furrowed brows. “My only question is if you're gonna keep running from it.”
The clear challenge from Jey had Sami staring, feeling like he was gaping at him like a fish out of water. He had been so sure his feelings for Jey were subtle and passing friendly not enough to arouse any suspicion, but here he was stuck with the truth. Jey knew. And worse of all he was stuck in place feeling like his whole world was reeling.
Jey moved till he was right in front of him and grabbed his chin gently making him tilt his gaze back towards him. “Tell me the truth man, I know you well enough by now don't I?” He scoffed with a frustrated look as he squeezed his chin giving him an expectant look.
Sami felt a blush dusting his cheeks as he blinked trying to register the touch and words in a jumble of emotions. He paused feeling his heart pounding in his ears and his old emotions flooding back like a dam about to break under the pressure. Fuck it.
Without thinking twice about the consequences he reached out gently pulling his hand off his hand down and moved his own hands to cup his cheeks. He watched the puzzled look pass into surprise as Jey caught onto the move but made no move to try and stop him from what he was about to do. That gave him the push he needed to close the distance between the two of them.
The kiss was tentative to test the waters but became more passionate the longer they were locked in the moment. Sami could feel Jey relaxing into the kiss and slowly reciprocating the affection with his own need matching his. The pent up feelings and months of pining, pretending they were nothing beyond friends felt just as painful as Jimmy's betrayal to him. Eventually he placed his hands on Sami's hips pulling him flush against his own body while his free fingers threaded through curly ginger locks.
Sami felt Jey shiver upon skin to skin contact when he flipped a hand under his shirt and he reached up gently, slipping the ‘Yeet’ glasses off the other man's head. He slipped them folded in his pocket and reluctantly parted as they breathed heavily, staring at each other. His heart racing from his own bold move and the fact his affection had gotten reciprocated.
“What? You think I wouldn't feel the same? I thought you knew me better than that, Uce. Plus I will take that Waffle House offer.” Jey gently untangled his fingers out Sami's locks and patted his chest with a cheerful grin. “You're paying though man.”
Zayn let out a genuine chuckle feeling his heart swell as he grinned with him feeling excitement wash over him like a pleasant sensation. He reached up and put on the Yeet glasses doing the motion with his arms which got a laugh and playful shove from Jey.
“Shut up you idiot.” Jey shook his head wrapping an arm around Sami's shoulders and pulled the other man along with him to leave the arena.
It was the best date he had in years.

Y/n lets out a shout as she is slammed down, horribly, over the barricade. She feels her back bending in a way that she most definitely knows it’s not supposed to bend. Y/n plops down onto the floor and takes in shaky breaths as she tries to push through the match. She can feel the pain stabbing her back as she slides into the ring and starts fighting, weakly.
“This is MY title shot!” Liv shouts in her face as she gets y/n prepared for her finisher.
Y/n groans and catches Liv and gives her a power bomb, hurting her back even more as she throws her arm over Liv. Catching the win.
•••
Y/n makes her way backstage, limping as she holds her back. She had just gotten herself a title shot yet her back was hurting her like a bitch. She had two options.
Get to the medical room and find out you fucked up your back which makes you not be able to compete for the title against Rhea. Or, shut the fuck up and suck it up until next week.
“The latter…” Y/n huffs as she leans against a wall and slowly lets herself slide down, her body tensed as hell.
“There you are,” Sami walks over with Kevin and Jey behind him. Y/n notices them and quickly gets up, biting down on her lip hard to hold in the groan as she tries to get herself to untense.
“Hi.” Y/n says through gritted teeth as she sends them a teeth smile as she stands herself up straight.
Kevin looks at her weirdly, “you ok?”
“I’m great.” Y/n lies through her teeth as she keeps herself straight.
“Why you standing like that…?” Jey looks at her warily.
“Trying to get my back straight…you know?” Y/n replies with a nod.
“Is your back ok?” Sami asks worriedly, “did you do something to it during your match?”
“Nah, I just seen someone hunch and it just made me stand up straighter.” Y/n lies again as she looks at all three of them.
“Uh huh…” Jey looks her up and down. “When’s your title shot?”
“Next week…” Y/n nods, “against Rhea.”
“you want us to accompany you to the ring?” Sami asks, “we know the JD will be there, so just in case.”
“Speaking of accompany,” Kevin point at y/n, “you should show up when Rhea interferes, it’ll rise up your new found rivalry.”
Y/n immediately shakes her head, “i’m pretty tired, i think i’m just gonna go back to my hotel room and take a nap.” y/n shrugs.
She was lying but she was also telling the truth. She isn’t tired. But she does want to go back to her hotel room and rest herself because of how tense her back is.
“You sure?” Jey questions, narrowing his eyes.
“So very positive, see ya!” Y/n rushes away as best as she could as she sucks up the pain.
They watch as she limps away, having a hand on her back.
•••
Jey is watching y/n with narrowed eyes as she walks tensely and slowly around the gym. He had forced her to join them to work out together since she’s been going against their “tradition” and making up excuses like…
“I’m too tired…”
“My body hurts…”
“I have a headache…”
“My stomach hurts…”
etcetera etcetera etcetera
This time, Jey was done with the excuses and forced her in here. Now he was concerned as she barely pushed herself to the limit. Usually she does.
“Yo y/n you good?” Jey calls over as he pushes his legs up on the gym equipment. “You look tense as hell.”
Y/n glances over at him and nods, “i’m fine…” her voice cracks and she immediately clears her voice, “i’m fine.”
Sami and Kevin look at Jey who narrows his eyes as he gets off the equipment and walks over to her, “you’re lying.” Jey says, “you’ve been lying for awhile about that.”
“What are you talking about?” Sami looks at Jey who gives them a look.
“She always say yes when she is asked to accompany one of us. She said no and she never says no. She can a stupid excuse too about why she is having her back so straight…it’s been set straight for almost half of this week. Not to mention how you’ve been limping and holding onto your back all the time. And the excuses? Don’t get me started.”
Y/n, Sami, and Kevin all stare at him. “How…” y/n mumbles.
“You’re a horrible liar.” Jey raises an eyebrow.
Kevin and Sami stare at her, “relax yourself.” Kevin demands as he walks over to her.
“I can’t…” y/n frowns.
“So something is wrong? You lied to me when i asked if you did something to it on Monday.” Sami frowns.
“Where are you injured?” Kevin asks.
“My back…” y/n sighs as she sees there is no more use in lying as Jey just called her out on everything she’s been doing this past week. “I was thrown on the barricade horribly. My back bent.”
Sami’s eyes widened, “you need to get that check out immediately y/n.”
“you are such a…” Kevin starts pushing her towards the exit as Jey and Sami both grab all their stuffs, “Pen…te…ha.” Kevin says slowly, “an idiot.”
“You are so white.” Y/n grunts as she feels his hand pushing on her back, “that hurtss…” she whines.
“it wouldn’t be hurting if you took care of yourself y/n.” Kevin scolds as he forces her to walk to medical.
“why didn’t you tell us?” Sami asks.
“Because I knew i would be taken off the match for the title…I really wanted to partake in that.” Y/n frowns as they walk into medical, forcing her to sit down on the bed as the nurse starts checking her over.
“When’d you hurt it?” The nurse asks her.
“Monday…” Y/n mumbles as she looks down and swings her legs around.
The nurse gets up and lifts her shirt up to show her back, “i’m going to press on it, tell me where it hurts.”
The nurse barely even touched her before y/n is immediately tensing even more and trying to subtly move away, “it hurts it hurts.”
The nurse nods and takes that note down, “you won’t be in the match. i’ll be sure to let them know and get you an ambulance over because that seems very serious.” The nurse says before walking out.
Y/n feels all three glares at her, making her shrink. Sami and Jey walk over to her and forces her to lay down, laying her down slowly. “you’re really stupid.” Kevin shakes his head, “I cannot believe you didn’t tell us sooner.”
“When that ambulance comes and your clear, your going home and your going to rest.” Sami scolds, “and we do not want to hear you complain. you can get your title match when you are fully healed and fully rested.”
“but the mat-“
“If i hear one more word about the match, you’re never coming back.” Kevin threatens making y/n frown.
“Just don’t do it again and this won’t happen, again.” Jey shrugs.
Y/n narrows her eyes at all of them, “I don’t like any of you right now.”
“Quite frankly, i don’t give a shit.”

the ballroom flooded with various bodies swirling in a synchronised waltz, chandeliers illuminating like flecks of gold against the skin, shimmering, iridescent. yet sami stands alone, solitude encompassing him. a drink in hand, one that would not lead to his inebriation, of course. he feels no need to do so. red velvet curtains shroud him from any womanly gaze, for sami was not inclined to interact, rather accepting the silence of solitude than any touch of a woman.
he brings the drink to his lips, letting the citrusy flavour mingle on his tongue before swallowing - a hearty anxious swallow. courting has never been his favourite pastime as the son of a nobleman, his mother often pestering him to find a bride. too many expectations, too many presumptions. ones that he vehemently rejects.
truth be told. sami does have his eyes set on someone…albeit…’tis a person he can not have. not for the sake of anything withholding like status or wealth, sami has plenty of that. but more so fear for his own reputation, as well as…his…
his eyes scanned the cramped ballroom, just for a semblance of reciprocation, a glance, a glare -anything. the last two courting season had been failures in his memory, for the lover he so desired had been absent, unknown as to why nor would he explain when sami saw him last and at that point he did not care, he was just happy to be back in the arms -and the sheets of the man he loved so dearly.
anxiety riddled sami’s figure, his bones jittery with a mixture of worry and anticipation, cold sweat accumulates on his brow, which with haste is dabbed away by a silken handkerchief. a thick gulp rises in his throat at the prospect of missing out on yet another chance, another year alone.
he is startled momentarily from his thoughts. a young woman, no more than twenty appears by his side, silken golden hair, like sunshine, skin as if kissed by the sun ever so faintly, the gown she wears is a stunning powder blue. it complements her features well, sami dares say he’d find her rather attractive, objectively speaking if he wasn’t so…inclined for opposition.
she tries to engage in conversation, not that sami was particularly listening, and how rude of him to do so, the poor woman has an obvious attraction to him, despite his nagging thoughts of just giving in and succumbing to preserve his reputation, he merely replies with rejection.
”my apologies, miss…but i am spoken for…”
the browns of his irises sparkle with admiration, a sublet smile creasing the corners of his lips. he sees him from across the ballroom, they’re eyes meeting and sami wonders if he’s always been so handsome -the answer is, yes always. of course. a simple flick of kevin’s head towards the exit is all he offers sami, a silent request, no- a command.
”excuse me, i must take my leave now”
sami did not even offer that poor girl a parting glance as he follows like an obedient lap dog begging for a treat. so blinded by love as he shoves past couples and lone violinists, cheloists and so on to just get a glimpse at kevin. he barely catches sight of him exiting to the gardens, sami’s heart beats with haste, a nervous thrum that he needed to calm. the brisk spring air his his flesh, one that made him shudder into his coat. the moonlight lingers softly in the sky, rippled and hazy as it reflects in the riverbed, rows of valley lilies and snowdrops dust the path beneath his feet like frost on a winters morning, he follows them up towards the garden, secluded behind shrubbery and maroon roses.
sami’s breath hitches in his throat, he sees kevin standing contemplatively behind bushels of virginia bluebell and celandine poppy. the anticipation courses through him, it had been months since he saw him last, since their last carnal encounter, since the first time sami told kevin he was in love with him.
sami placed a tender hand on kevin’s shoulder, snaking it down his burly chest before resting his head upon the aforementioned body part. there is a silence that continues to flood the air, foreshadowing the impending words to fall from kevin’s lips.
”we need to talk”, kevin speaks apprehensively.
”i am listening” sami was, half-heartedly in truth. perhaps since he might not be ready to hear the rest of kevin’s monologue.
kevin cups the back of sami’s hand, gingerly removing it from his chest as he turns to face him. his eyes are as heavy as the pains that weigh on his heart, almost teary eyed and sami…sami just smiles, happy to see him once again.
kevin sighs heavily, a shudder. a thick gulp rising in his throat as he clears it.
”we cannot keep doing this” kevin’s words were stern. a warning. sami’s eyes still hold that lovestruck gaze, only faulterng in concern when kevin does not elaborate.
“what..? what do you mean?”
kevin inhales sharply, his eyes avoidant, focusing on the bluebells rather than the warmth of sami’s eyes.
“i am engaged to be wed” he spouts, straight to the point.
sami’s blood runs cold.
”a duchess, from a very affluent family” kevin continues. “my father has already payed a substantial amount for her hand”
sami remains silent, the thrum of his heart slowly hardening. slowing.
“it is…it is not something i can just turn down…my reputation depends on it”
”and what of me?” sami interjects. “what of my reputation?”
”am i destined to be some lonely fool for the remainder of my days?”
”do not say that-“ kevin retorts
“well it is the truth-“
”if we continue it will harm both our reputations!” kevin’s voice grows hoarse in his throat. “and i would not forgive myself for that…i am do this to save you”
”save me? do you really think that i am some maiden in need of saving?” sami scoffs “how shallow of you…”
sami paces back and forth between the bushels, keeping his gaze fixated on his feet, careful not to trample the lilies.
”you are a hypocrite. you are not doing this to save my reputation, it is only for yours because heaven forbid your father find out-“
”do not bring my father into this-“
”admit it, you are scared that your father will cut you out of his willie he finds out, because what are you without daddy’s finances to support-“
kevin cuts sami of with a searing kiss, effectively silencing him. and sami melts…he simply melts into kevin’s arms, submerging himself into kevin’s skin. kevin’s hands were tender, gripping at sami’s flesh with such reverence, yet his fingertips were hesitant, worried that this may be the final time they’d encounter such pleasure of the flesh together.
yet neither of them stop, coats and frills tossed about in the garden bed, exploring each other’s bodies like they had many times previously. sami parts from kevin breathlessly, lips pink and swollen from the kiss.
”if this is the end…” sami’s lips part shakily, words anxiety riddled as they formed in his throat.
”be it known, that i have always loved you…and will always continue to love you” he speaks wholeheartedly, his heart souring with a combination of grief and reprieve. grief moreso…
kevin’s breath quivered with a small chuckle.
”that is all i needed to hear” as he kisses sami again, this time more softly, a tender meeting of their lips.
sami notes that kevin did not say those three words he’s been dying to hear him say. and in a way…sami did not need to hear them, for he knows that his love is more than reciprocated…
kevin is quick to shed his clothing, in hasty tugs and pulls he does the same with sami. on top of the pile of linen and silk, sami kneels on all fours, palms pressed into the grass, staining the skin green, all moist and warm. his cock throbbing, overcome with need, and kevin could sense it, letting a glob of spit plop onto his fingers before preparing sami’s tight puckered entrance, once satisfied, kevin lines himself up with him.
sami winces at the sudden intrusion, having missed it so, his body having to get used to the stretch around kevin’s cock, as he buries himself deeper with each subtle inch forward. and kevin is not gentle by any means, a visceral, primal arousal takes over him, one that leaves him gasping and panting with desire, his fingers digging into sami’s hips, nails clawing at the flesh as he pulls the smaller man back against his cock with forceful thrusts.
open mouth pants part sami’s lips, so desperate and thankful to receive kevin’s touch once again. no words are spoken, just basking in the sound of each other‘s moans and the primal sound of skin to skin contact, the sound reverberating, echoing in the midnight air. the throb of kevin’s cock only frowns, more rapid, more impatient, swelling in the deepest crevices of sami’s insides before spilling over without warning. his thick, silky liquid fills sami to the brim, all warm and gooey, sami’s cock drips with his own release, coating the grass below. his fingers grip tufts of grass and dirt as he empties the remains of himself.
kevin pulls out with haste, quick to clean himself up and retrieve his garments from beneath sami, left breathless and full.
“the wedding is a month from tonight…”
sami sits up, fisting the dirt covered garments beneath him in a solem attempt to shove his feelings aside. sami dresses himself, deliberately slow, just to stay in kevin’s presence a few moments longer.
“for what it is worth…may i have a kiss goodbye…?”
sami’s eyes pleading , begging for one last interaction, at the very least some closure to soothe his aching heart.
“it is best if we leave it as is…” kevin muttered solemnly “because i fear that i will not be able to let you go should we persist…”
kevin sighs heavily, finally looking him in the eye.
”goodbye sami…”

Caught deep in the Tribal Chiefs' clutches for the past three years after acknowledging your long-time friend Roman Reigns, you finally feel on top of the world. You have a title, a family, Jey, people who actually care about you, can finally put your money where your mouth is and show everyone how ruthless, manipulative, and good you are, and have put your tumultuous and scarred past behind you - or so you thought.
Because the thorns in your side that you thought you'd rid yourself of will just never free you from their poisonous grips. And their names were Kevin Owens and Sam Zayn.
Your former best friends. The people you absolutely despised with everything in your heart. The people you vowed to distance yourself from and the history you chose to try to forget.
But love and hate are tangled webs, intricately laced together and impossible to unravel. And as much as you tried to bury the memories and feelings, they seemed to persistently claw their way back into your consciousness especially with Sami trying to claw his way into the Bloodline with you, and Kevin trying to get the both of you out.
You try to fight off their advances, and you're partially successful with Kevin, but Sami's kisses always weakened you, leaving you feeling conflicted and torn between the life you've built and the past you've tried to escape. But when Jey's fiery lips press against yours, grounding you in the present, he reminds you of your your loyalty and your commitment to the Bloodline, and keep you anchored from drifting too far into the turbulent waters of your past...
But how long will it be until the turbulent waves of your past fully consume you?
Until your taste for freedom outweighs your loyalty to the Bloodline? Until you find yourself torn between the love you feel for Jey and the unresolved emotions lingering for Kevin and Sami?
Until you finally realize that the lines between loyalty, love, and longing are blurred beyond recognition, leaving you in never-ending waves that crash upon the shores of your existence, threatening to erode the stability you've fought so hard to establish?
Not long, if Kevin has anything to say about it.
But you'll make sure he doesn't even have a chance to speak.
A/N: a bit of a multi-chapter series I am working on!! I love the bloodline and sami/Kevin story, so this is inspired by that. Stay tuned, hope you loved this summary!!

Shake It For Me
Cody Rhodes x Reader
TW: Country music (ik ik, I’m sorry. It’s cute tho I promise), cursing, men who can’t take no for an answer, Cody being possessive/protective, foul language, some spiciness (2/10), neck kissing, I think that’s it…
Tags: @reebs-luvs-rhodes-and-wrestling
═══════•°• ⚠ •°•═══════
Nashville Tennessee.
One of Y/N’s favorite places to be. Whenever she saw that they would be putting on a show in Music City, she couldn’t help but smile. It was one of the only other places she would consider living in besides her hometown. The people are amazing, the food is phenomenal, the sights are beautiful, and even though she would never admit it out loud, country music is her guilty pleasure.
When the plane landed earlier that day, she was practically buzzing with excitement. Everyone in the locker room watched her with amusement as she went through the entire day with a huge smile on her face. Her energy was so contagious that she managed to convince even the people who usually don’t like going out after shows to go out with them to the bar.
Cody watched his best friend with nothing but adoration and enthusiasm. He loves seeing her like this, so in her element. He spent the entire day before the show with her, allowing her to drag him to all of her favorite places. Broadway Street, her favorite hole-in-the-wall barbecue joint, the boot shop she always stopped at even though she already had a closet full of cowboy boots. They decided to sight see while they could since they had to spend the entirety of their Friday at the arena for SmackDown.
It was already pretty late after the show ended and the talent was released, but she was determined to go out to the bar. She had her outfit for the night packed in her gym bag and everything. A sparkly red top, cut off shorts, and a nice pair of brown cowboy boots. She looked like a native to the city. Even with exhaustion swirling around inside them, simply seeing the bright smile on her face was enough to get everyone to the bar she had found.
It was one of the most lovely honky tonk bars in Nashville. People were eating, talking, dancing, and drinking. It carried a wholesome feeling where tourists and locals could come together just to enjoy their evening. It was a safe place where everyone could soak in the neon lights and whiskey-heavy air.
And Y/N was absolutely thriving.
Cody, on the other hand, was just along for the ride.
It's not that he didn’t want to be there. He always went out with Y/N after shows when she wanted to go. Sometimes they would simply go back to their shared hotel room and watch a movie, or they’d do a little snack run to a local gas station and sit up talking, it all just depended. But the two of them always ended up sharing a hotel room whenever going anywhere, so they usually drove and stuck together when going out.
He had a beer in his grip, the condensation of the glass hitting the soft skin of his hand due to the humidity in the air. His drink was mostly untouched, only a sip here and there. They planned on calling an uber when it came time to leave, but something inside of him told him not to drink. He leaned against the bar nodding along to whatever Josh and Jon were saying to one another. He wishes he could say he was paying attention, but truthfully, he wasn’t. His eyes kept flickering to Y/N.
She managed to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. From conversations and laughing with Rebecca (Becky Lynch), to taking tequila shots with Bianca and Trinity, and even dancing to the beat while she talked animatedly to Kevin and Rami. She fit right into the lively scene, looked like she was exactly where she belonged standing under the flashing lights.
Cody always knew she loved nights out like this. Where it was everyone just enjoying their time, not worried about catching an early flight or interviews. She said it felt like a family outing, and with all of them being on the road so much and being away from home, it was nice to have a makeshift family here.
There was just something different about seeing her here though. Seeing her in her true element, completely in her zone, having all the fun in the world. It was nice seeing her so carefree. Y/N has a tendency of carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. She takes on her own burdens along with everyone else’s, because that’s just who she is. She loves everyone and would do anything to help.
That’s what drew him to her in the first place. They’ve been friends since his ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes phase. Even when he left WWE, she was the one person who consistently kept in touch with him, who went out of her way to visit him in Atlanta, who came to see his shows when he was in AEW, who never missed a birthday or important milestone in his life. She even threw him a huge welcome back party when he returned to WWE. Y/N stood by his side always. She truly was his best and closest friend.
“You know… you got a bit of a staring problem.”
Cody blinked, turning his head over to Colby who took the empty seat next to Josh and Jon. The twins snicker at the man’s joke causing Cody to roll his eyes playfully. The knowing smirk on his three friends' faces makes him sigh, pushing his beer further away from him.
“I do not,” he denies smoothly, keeping his face stoic. He tries to cover up his reaction by retaining an unbothered tone, but glass is harder to see through.
“Uh-huh,” Colby nods mockingly, taking a sip of his own drink. “Anyone who’s glanced your way knows those baby blues have been on her since we got here.”
“He’s got a point,” Jon jumps in with a menacing grin. “You like lookin’ at her so much, why don’t you just… I don’t know– hang out with her?” He quips sassily.
“I am hanging out with her,” Cody tells them. “She’s just having fun with other people too. I don’t need to suffocate her all the time.”
“Could’ve fooled me,” Josh chuckles. “Don’t y’all practically live together? Stayin’ in the same hotel rooms n’ shit. Woulda thought you’d be attached at the hip tonight. ‘Specially after her win against Natalya.”
“I’m just letting her enjoy her night,” Cody tries to laugh it off. “Damn. It’s almost like you want me to be following her around.”
“It is entertaining watching you trail her like a puppy dog,” Colby laughs obnoxiously, Cody lightly smacking his arm.
“I don’t follow her around.”
“Sure, man,” Colby pats his back, getting up to go bother his wife. “Keep tellin’ yourself that.”
Cody ignores him, but he does force himself to look away from Y/N. It makes him uneasy taking his eyes off of her. Despite Y/N knowing Nashville like the back of her hand, neither of them are from here. It’s a city filled with strange people that they don’t know. Anything could happen and it makes him shift uncomfortably. It takes about five minutes before he finally caves and turns back around to find her.
That’s when the music shifts.
It’s a newer song that she showed him in the car a few months ago. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey. He remembers her mentioning there was a line dance that accompanied the tune, but they never had enough time for her to teach it to him.
He watches as Y/N’s face lights up. She excitedly shakes Bianca’s arm, a small squeal escaping her lips. “C’mon, I know this one!” She exclaims, trying ot pull the EST onto the dance floor.
Biance laughs but shakes her head, “You pick the one damn dance I don’t know.”
“I can show it to you,” Y/N pleads. “Please, please, please, please…” she folds her hands together beggingly.
“Just go do it,” Bianca encourages her. “I’ll join you on the next one.”
This 9 to 5 ain’t working
So why the hell do I work so hard
Y/N huffs with a small pout but nonetheless runs out to the dance floor. She hops in the front of the line, quickly picking up where everyone else is already at. Cody barely noticed that she had gone, he knew it was only a matter of time before she ended up on the dance floor. It’s her thing. But just because he wasn’t looking at her, doesn’t mean everyone else wasn’t.
A low whistle is heard from Austin Theory as Grayson Waller’s eyes nearly pop out of his head. “Damn…” Theory sucks his bottom lip between his teeth. “Look at her!” He claps loudly. “Go L/N, go!”
“Man, I didn’t even know Y/N had that in her,” Grayson adds.
Cody frowns, his grip on his beer tightening. He knows their comments don’t mean anything, but it annoys him sufficiently hearing anyone comment on his best friend. “Had what in her?” He asks with a small sigh.
“Dude,” Austin snorts, gesturing over to the front of the bar, “Just look.”
So, he did.
He turns, glancing back to where he was just looking. She had just gotten in line for the dance, but when his eyes find her again– fuck. He wasn’t at all prepared to see what he does when he sees her dancing form.
One, here comes the two to the three to the four
Tell 'em bring another out, we need plenty more
Two steppin' on the table, she don't need a dancefloor
Oh my, good Lord
People were lining up all around her. It’s not hard to see that she became the center of attention in a very short amount of time. Her movements are so fluid, like she’s secretly been a professional dancer this entire time rather than a wrestler. Her feet move perfectly in time with the beat, her hips matching the upbeat rhythm. It sends Cody’s mind spinning as he tries to keep up with her movements, but it’s almost impossible. All he sees is a blur of sparkling red and the clack of her heeled boots.
Every step she takes, every spin, every heel touch is deliberate. She knows the hold she has on the entire bar. Everyone is either watching her to pick up on the steps or simply just to stare. Her movements are completely effortless yet… dangerous.
Someone pour me up a double shot of whiskey
They know me and Jack Daniels got a history
There's a party downtown near Fifth Street
Everybody at the bar gettin' tipsy
Everybody at the bar gettin' tipsy
Everybody at the bar gettin' tipsy
She adds one extra step that clearly wasn’t originally in the choreography. She spins, dropping low to the ground which makes something catch in the American Nightmare’s throat. He clenches his beer even more than he was before. Because– holy shit.
He’d never seen her in this light before.
He always knew she was beautiful. Just because he’s her best friend doesn’t mean he’s blind. He’s aware of how easily she could turn heads. Her mere presence gains attention no matter where she goes. But this? This is something else. Something that made his stomach tighten in a way he wasn’t sure he wanted to acknowledge.
But his trance is quickly broken when he notices a guy slowly finding his way towards Y/N. Cody’s icy stare locks onto the approaching threat. The stranger clearly thinks he’s slick, that no one can see what he’s doing, but Cody did. He saw his intentions from clear across the bar. He tries to fit in with the large crowd, dancing his way towards the front unil he finally reaches his destination.
Y/N.
Cody stiffens as he watches he man lean forward, whispering something into Y/N’s ear. She laughs at whatever it was– not the kind of laugh she gives Cody whenever he tells her a joke, but a polite, dismissive one. One that should have communicated she didn’t want to have a conversation.
“I haven’t seen you around here before.”
Y/N fights the urge to roll her eyes. This is the exact reason why she wanted Bianca to come out onto the floor with her. It’s easier to get rid of over zealous guys when she has back up. She doesn’t usually like to cause confrontation, especially on the night’s where she gets to go out, but she’s not afraid of it. She just really didn’t want to engage or cause a scene if she she could avoid it. She doesn’t have to ruin his night, and he doesn’t have to ruin hers. Hopefully he knows how to take a hint.
“Yeah, I’m in town visiting for the weekend,” she replies in a clipped tone. “So, if you’ll excuse me.”
She tries to dance away from him, but he doesn’t back down. Y/N can already feel the upcoming conversation and she knows the stranger isn’t going to take her bruising his ego very lightly. She ried to make a graceful escape, but he clearly couldn’t take that for an answer.
“Visitng, huh?” He licks his bottom lip, his movements sloppy in comparison to hers. “What for?”
“Work.” Once again her answer is cut and dry, not revealing too much about herself, showing she has no interest in continuing the conversation.
“Well, what’s a pretty lil’ thing like you do for work?” He inches closer to her, his head dipping down closer to her neck. She can smell the cheap bourbon on his breath and it makes her eye twitch. She tries to take a blatant step forward to get out of the situation. At this point she just wants off the dance floor even though the song isn’t over yet. “Oh c’mon darlin’, where you goin’?” He moves to try and grab her waist. “I’m just tryin’ to get to know you.”
Y/N grabs his wrist, not tight enough to hurt him, but firm enough to get her message across. “Don’t touch me,” she says stiffly. “Find someone else to bother.”
If she wanted to, she could lay him out across the bar floor in a second. She’s taken down women who are bigger than him, but again, she doesn’t feel the need to cause a scene and get herself kicked out of the bar. Especially when it was her idea to go out. She doesn’t want to ruin her friends’ night over some guy who can’t keep his hands to himself.
“You really gonna be like that?” He deepens his voice to try and make himself sound more intimidating. He shrugs, “That’s all right. I don’t mind a little game of cat n’ mouse.”
Y/N sighs. It’s almost like he begins to move in slow motion. She can see his hands are now trying to skim far too low for comfort. She braces herself to get kicked out of the bar for breaking the guy's nose when suddenly a familiar arm coils itself around her waist, pulling her into his chest. In an instant her senses are flooded with the familiar addictive mix of woodsy cologne, clean aftershave, and a hint of warm leather.
Cody.
He lowers his head, his lips ghosting across her neck as he glares daggers into the man in front of them. He places chaste kisses along her skin, leaving goosebumps in his wake. It’s a clear claim of what’s his. A silent warning.
The strange man looks startled by Cody’s appearance. Y/N has to admit that she’s a bit surprised herself. One minute he was lounging at the bar with the guys and the next he’s behind her, his hands griping her hips like a vice. Not that she could dwell on it for long as her mind is fogged by his intoxicating presence. She finds herself leaning into his touch, her head falling against his chest. Normally, she would be more considerate, not being so touchy with her best friend, but there’s something about the possessiveness in his stance that makes her forget he’s her best friend in the first place.
The man blinks, clearly thrown by the way Y/N immediately reacted to Cody, “Uh–”
“She’s not interested,” Cody said flatly. His voice was calm. Too calm.
He scoffs, probably feeling emasculated by the way Cody doubles his size just in muscle. “I don’t see her complainin’ about me being here.”
Cody’s grip on her tightens, “That’s because she doesn’t have to.”
The guy looks like he’s about to say something again, but he’s startled by Y/N suddenly letting out a breahy moan. That’s when he notices Cody full on nipping at Y/N’s neck, leaving marks over her soft skin. Y/N is so lost in the feeling of Cody Rhodes that she doesn’t even realize the guy had left. He had muttered something under his breath that neither of them caught before finally taking off.
Y/N giggles, “He’s gone…” she says teasingly. “You can stop that now.” Not that puts forth any effort to move away from him.
Cody barely looks up, keeping her flush against him, “Y’know… I think I’m good where I’m at,” he mumbles.
Y/N smiles, turning in his arms in order to face him. She loops her arms around his neck, amusement dancing in her eyes. “So, what? You just decided to mosey on over here and stake your claim?” She pokes fun at his show of possessiveness.
Cody smirks, enjoying the new view of her face, “Just figured you could use a better dance partner.”
Her eyes light up, “Oh?” She grins, her fingers lacing through his bright blonde locks. “And you think you’re up for that?”
Cody admires the way the light dances on her face for a moment before smiling softly, “Why don’t you teach me?”
The flirty tension disappears for a moment and all she feels is pure love for the man in front of her. Her face is overtaken with excitement as she grabs his hands and places them exactly where she wants them.
“You ever tried swing dancing before?” She asks him with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
He raises an eyebrow, “No… But I’ve heard of it.”
“Well, saddle up cowboy,” she says in the worst southern accent he’s ever heard. “ ‘Cause I’m about to take your ass for a ride.”
“Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” blasts through the bar as Y/N begins the dance. Other people are participating in the designated line dance for the song which looks about just as complicated as what Y/N was trying to show him.
“Normally the guy leads, but since you’re a newbie, I’ll take the reins,” she says with a cocky smirk that makes Cody roll his eyes. “Just don’t fight me, okay? I’ll give you a little nudge every time I want you to move. Just follow my lead.”
Got a little boom in my big truck
Gonna open up the doors and turn it up
Gonna stomp my boots in the Georgia mud
Gonna watch you make me fall in love
Get up on the hood of my daddy's tractor
Up on the tool box, it don't matter
Down on the tailgate
Girl I can't wait
To watch you do your thing
Cody is slightly taken aback by how quick paced the dance moves. He watches in awe as Y/N leads him through the dance, but somehow makes it seem like it’s him doing all the work. She spins herself outwards before flinging herself back into him, hooking her leg around his to slide down. He squats down slightly with her, following along closely.
Y/N grins, “Look at you, cassanova,” she says teasingly. “You’re a natural.”
“I’ve got a good teacher,” he fires back, his tone gravelly and his eyes solely focused on her.
Shake it for the young bucks sittin' in the honky-tonks
For the rednecks rockin' 'til the break of dawn
The DJ spinnin' that country song
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon
Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees
Shake it for the catfish swimmin' down deep in the creek
For the crickets and the critters and the squirrels
Shake it to the moon, shake it for me girl
Y/N lets out a small yelp as Cody spins her rapidly under his arm before dipping her in time with the beat drop. She raises her eyebrows as he pulls her back up, suddenly taking control from her as they keep dancing. She nods her head, “Not bad…” she teases. “But don’t get too cocky.”
Cody hums, his grip tightening just enough to send a shiver up her spine. Without warning, he practically threw her outwards before pulling her back in, having her jump in the air and into his arms. Her legs are tucked under his bicep as he uses the momentum to rock forward before launching her back out onto the floor. Y/N feels the breath leave her lungs, not knowing how he picked up on such an advanced move so fast. She exhales shakily as they continue to dance.
“Show off,” she breathes out, her chest rising and falling as she tries to steady herself.
He chuckles, his face mere inches from hers. “You walked right into that one.”
“I’m starting to think maybe you have done this before,” Y/N raises a suspicious brow.
“And why would I lie to you?” Cody asks her with a small smile.
“So I would be more impressed when you pulled something like that,” She titles her head, once again spinning under his arm.
Now dance, like a dandelion
In the wind on the hill underneath the pines
Yeah, move like the river flows
Feel the kick drum down deep in your toes
All I wanna do is get to holdin' you
And get to knowin' you
And get to showin' you
And get to lovin' you
'Fore the night is through
Baby, you know what to do
“Ever think maybe I’m just a fast learner?” He counters with his signature half-smile.
“Hmm,” Y/N looks him up and down, still not convinced in he sliightest. “You may pick certain things up quickly, Rhodes, but that foot work tells me you have some experience.” She nods towards his boot-clad feet that are moving far too smoothly for it to be his first time.
He sighs dramatically, his smile growing. “All right, all right…” his sparkling orbs meet hers. “You caught me.”
Y/N scoffs loudly as he dips her and swings her body up. She squeezes his hand as a way to scold him, “Why didn’t you just tell me you knew how to swing?”
Cody’s eyes soften as he looks at her. The way her eyes glimmer under the light of the bar. The way her posture is more relaxed than usual due to the small amounts of alcohol circulating through her system. She looks free, comfortable even. Seeing her here compared to at work, it’s nice. Watching her be able to let go.
“...Maybe I did just want to impress you,” he admits quietly.
Y/N’s heart flutters at the confession. She shoots him a dopey smile of her own, her hand moving before her brain can register. She cups the side of his face as they continue dancing to the beat of the next song that starts to play. “You always impress me, Rhodes…” she says tenderly. “You don’t even have to try. You’ve been impressing me since your ‘Dashing’ days.”
Cody laughs, his chest rumbling with the melody of his own voice. Y/N’s always loved the sound of his laugh. It’s more satisfying to hear than the music blasting through the speakers around them. “You mean that?”
“Of course,” Y/N laughs like it’s the most incredulous thing she’s ever been asked. “You’re always finding new ways to keep me on my toes.”
He leans into her touch, her hand never leaving his face. His fingers trace small circles onto the small amount of exposed skin between her top and shorts. He’s never felt more comfortable in his life. The way their bodies move perfectly in sync, the trail of chills he leaves whenever he moves his hands to a different location. The way his own heart rate speeds up when she lightly fiddles with the ends of his hair.
At this point, they both knew what they did to each other.
And it was about time they both stopped acting like it didn’t affect them.
This wouldn’t be the first time one of them got a little too possessive over the other. Y/N would never admit to it, but she’s interjected herself into many conversations Cody has had with other females who got a little too close for comfort. Cody did the same. He remembered a specific moment when Damian Priest tried his hand at flirting with her, and all Cody remembers was seeing red before he was suddenly pulling Y/N away with some fake emergency he came up with.
They both chalked it up to friendly behavior, using the excuse that no one was good enough for the other. And they did truly believe that, but not for unselfish reasons. It’s because they believed the only person meant for the other was each other.
“Y’know, you say that, but then you’re the one out here pulling out crazy dance moves that I didn’t even know you could do,” he whispers in her ear as she spins around. Her back is now flushly pressed against his chest. His breath hitches when she rolls her hips at just the right time with the perfect amount of pressure. “I mean… why did you never tell me you could move like this?”
Y/N leans her head to look back up at him, looping her hands around his neck. “You never asked.”
Cody leans down to whisper in her ear, his smile growing when she pushes herself impossibly closer to him. “You’ll have to show me what else you’re hiding when we get back to the hotel…”
“You askin’ for private dance lessons, Rhodes?” Y/N grins teasingly.
“Obviously,” Cody scoffs out even though both of them know that is nowhere near what he meant. “I might have some basic swing experience, but I’ve clearly got some catching up to do if I’m gonna be your new dance partner.”
“That’s a big commitment…” Y/N warns. Cody is now suddenly aware of how close her face is to his. Her lips are ghosting his, the smell of tequila and minty gum infiltrating his senses. “You sure you’re up for the challenge?”
“As long as you’re willing to keep me around,” he replies, somehow managing to inch closer to her, noses brushing against each other.
“I’ve managed to keep you on a leash for this long,” she smiles. “I don’t plan on letting you go anytime soon...”
And with that, she closes the gap between them, her lips colliding with his. The kiss is tender and full of yearning. After years of unspoken tensions and pretending to be just friends, it has to be the most satisfying thing in the world to feel one another in this capacity. Y/N shifts, turning around to fully face him, lips only separating for a split second before she’s back on him.
The entire bar around them fades as Cody wraps his arms around her waist. He pulls her into him, embracing her in the way he’s always wanted to. Words couldn’t convey everything that this kiss does. They know exactly what the other is thinking, what they want to say, simply by the way their mouths move in sync.
Y/N smiles against his lips, her own giddiness getting the best of her. Cody pulls back slightly, pressing his forehead to hers, “What are you smiling like that for, huh?”
Y/N rolls her eyes and tries to push him away but he doesn’t let her move even a centimeter further. “Nuh uh,” he teases. “Who’s got you smiling like that?”
Y/N huffs, not wanting to give him the satisfaction just yet, “You already know why, asshole.”
“Yeah, well, maybe I wanna hear you say it,” he raises an expectant eyebrow. “So I’ll ask again…” he leans forward, “why are you smiling?”
She’s never been able to fight the influence his perfectly blue eyes have on her. Any time he flashed those icy irises in her direction, she knew she was a goner. Reluctantly, she sighs, “Because of you…”
His cocky smirk returns, “Yeah? Because of me?”
Y/N wants to wipe the smugness of his face, but she can’t help finding it endearing, “Yes. Because of you.”
“Well, shit…” he smiles goofily. “If I would’ve known I could make you smile like that I would’ve kissed you sooner.”
“Oh shut up,” she scoffs out a laugh before grabbing his collar and pulling him into once more, connecting her lips with his again.
Now this time both of them are smiling and anyone looking at them knows those dopey smiles aren’t fading anytime soon. The line of friendship that was once between them has been completely obliterated. There was no going back from this.
And it’s clear, neither of them wanted to.
