From The Glasgow Herald on April 10, 1939:
The death at his home, Willifield Way, London, N.W., of Mr. Kenneth D. Shoesmith, the marine painter, was announced yesterday. He was 48.
Mr. Shoesmith was educated in the training ship Conway.
For several years Mr. Shoesmith was an officer in the Mercantile Marine and sailed to many parts of the world. His artistic inclinations were dominant, however, and after the war he left the sea to take up painting. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the principal galleries.
His chief works were the immense canvases which panel the public rooms of the Queen Mary. The subjects illustrate the romance of seafaring and British naval history.

A poster for the Southern Railways' new electric rail service from London to Portsmouth, circa 1930's. HMS Victory, then as now, was an excellent tourist draw and this poster by Kenneth Shoesmith is quite striking and harkens back to Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar quite well, beckoning tourists to come experience those glory days

mauretania leaving cherbourg art card presumably by kenneth shoesmith. ca. 1920s
#postcard#postcards#ocean liners#rms mauretania#cunard line#art card#kenneth shoesmith#nighttime#1920s#yeah i think this is a shoesmith because if you dig a bit this image was sold as a poster and has shoesmith's signature#but more importantly. shoesmith loves a good stylized plume of smoke. and look at all those plumes
